We stopped in to Timbers before popping home, greeted quickly by the staff who were very friendly and approachable. Cafe is tidy and clean, and there is plenty of options on the menu including options for the kids that are not all just '...and chips' options! Also they are very accomodating in swapping things in / out, which was great for the kids meals. The food came quickly (with kids meals first - as they should) and it was well presented. I had gone for the all day breakfast, with the wife going for the curry. In terms of the all day breakfast the black pudding was a little over cooked (crunchy) and I had to actually ask if it came with Sausages.. which it turns out was forgotten! They quickly returned with said sausages, so resolved - but always nice if you don't have to ask in the first place. I noticed my wife hadn't eaten much of the chicken in her curry - I tried a bit and despite being in tikka masala sauce it was really dry, not nice at all. On bright side my young 'un enjoyed his kids lasagne! Three of us had milkshakes, opting for the ice cream version but whilst they weren't bad, I didn't think they tasted much like an ice cream milkshake... All in all it was an OK experience and price seemed reasonable, just a shame about some of the food related issues, hopefully it was a one off.

Popped in for breakfast whilst waiting to collect something from a shop on the High Street. Welcome was friendly, service was prompt yet warm and the food was delicious. The member of staff who took my order was really helpful when I asked for her help to decide what I was going to order. I’ll be sure to come back in the future.

Excellent breakfast. Plenty of it. Really good sausages and bacon. Staff also deserve a mention as service is quick, friendly and efficient. The way they spoke to an elderly gentleman who was apparently in for a weekly breakfast was very touching. Even offered to keep his water bottle topped up of he drank it all on the hottest day. Above and beyond. Recommended.

We love Timbers! We live locally and every time someone comes to visit us we take them here. Food is nothing fancy but is tasty, good portions and really affordable. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We’ve never had a bad experience!

Our go to place at lunchtime when in town. The food is nicely cooked, the choice excellent, and portion size ok for lunchtime. The jackfruit curry is especially good. The staff are efficient and friendly. Can get busy at midday and in warm weather the room upstairs can get quite hot.

Absolutely fantastic place to stop for food or a drink! I've lived in Colchester for 8 years & this is the first time I've tried Timbers after reading an excellent review from another person. Cheap, tasty, good service & a lovely place to sit & eat, what more could you ask for, the regular breakfast was spot on, under £6, wasn't greasy or heavy it was perfect. Well done to the chef/chefs. The service was fast & brekkie was out in I think, less than 10 mins. He menu looks great with a wide range of choices - definitely my new favourite & will definitely be going back & telling my friends & family. We was served/cooked for by Maria, Ella, Shanyce Pete & Lou - a credit to the restaurant. Me & hubby are well impressed especially after eating out lately & not getting value for money or nice food!!! Thanks! 🙏

Myself and my husband go to timbers for breakfast most weekends. Its always good food at a great price. Went this morning and friday and both times was served by a lovely young lady called hannah. What a pleasure it was to be served by someone so polite friendly and helpful!!

If you are looking for Breakfast perfection, Timbers is about as close as you can get in Colchester. I've been visiting timbers for around 2 years and I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience with the service or the food. It's a cosy little place and very very popular so book ahead if you want to avoid disappointment. Service is quick and the staff are some of the nicest and polite I have encountered in any restaurant and I would not hesitate to recommend Timbers to friends or family.

Today I booked a table at 12 for 13 people for 1.15. Although Timbers were under staffed with staff illness we were all accommodated, warmly greeted and had delicious lunches! I don’t think there’s another restaurant in Colchester that would be able to look after us in the same way. The food and drinks were served very quickly. We’re already looking forward to returning again next week! A special thanks to Ella, Shanice and Niamh for looking after us so well!!!

Booking online was easy. Went for a birthday breakfast and it was great! They even put out some birthday banners which was a nice touch! Menu looks great! Delicious! We dropped in at peak time without a reservation - they gave us a ring back when there was a table free around 30 mins later, no issues at all. Their vegan menu was a bit limited for some things because of covid (completely understandable) - had the all day breakfast, it was seasoned and cooked perfectly and everything tasted very fresh. Good table service who strived to make sure all our questions were answered, overall great experience.

Had been on my list for a while since moving to Colchester, finally made it there this past Friday. Only a review for the breakfast as haven't had lunch or dinner here yet! Although if the breakfast is anything to go by, I'll definitely be back to try them! The building itself is lovely and interesting, being 500 years old or thereabouts. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, all smiles. I went for the timbers big breakfast, which consisted of 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 hash browns, beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato and toast, with a choice of tea or coffee. When the food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ingredients, as everything was extremely tasty. My only regret is not having tried timbers earlier.

As someone who has eaten full english a lot, the quality of food was to a great standard and delicious; and the amount of tea given was pleasantly generous. The only drawback was we were in the table by the door, it was a very cold day and a delivery man was bringing his produce through the Cafe which took around 15 trips and not once did he close the door.
