Reviews of White Hart Toby Carvery
a. “. 2.
This was by far the best experience we've had at a Toby Carvery. Clean, festive, good service, the works. Our waitress Ebony was very helpful. The chef Connor was a delight and is always cheerful. Both a credit to the team. Great food. I was very happy and impressed.
C. P.
All the staff were pleasant and cheerful. The lady at the bar informed us that there was no eggs that day at the start so we had informed choice if we wanted to stay.
The breakfast was good, bacon was a little overdone for my liking but my partner was more than happy with it.
One thing I would have liked was some jam for my toast but not a major issue.
O. C.
Been to this place several times and would definitely recommend it for breakfast.the fact that I keep going back is testament to the food, staff and ambience of the place.
P. 1.
Really nice atmosphere. Good food. Clean. Lovely friendly staff. One of our party has allergies. They felt safe and confident to eat. Staff were great at checking what food was suitable.
Can't think of any changes
J. H.
Our waitress took quite a while to take our drinks order. The starters took at least half an hour to arrive. The carvery looked messy and on eating the food was only warm and the gravy nearly cold. On ordering desserts we were told about four weren't available - luckily had what we wanted which were tasty. No one around to pay so had to go the bar and apparently our waitress had gone off duty!!
L. R.
The staff were lovely even though there was a clear lack of them working… we had to wait to be served and then to get the bill. Also, most desserts were out of stock (and it was only 7.30pm) so not the expected. The food from the carvery that we could try was good though. I missed more vegetarian options.
C. C.
Toby is a great place where you can enjoy a few great meats such as chicken, beef, pork and gammon. you can have a large Yorkshire pudding along sode with vegetables. They also have vegan gravy and small menu options for vegans and vegetarian. The salmon is quite small but very tasty. They have mac and cheese as well along with roast potatoes coated in beef dripping or no dripping. The only issues are people are using the car park for the restaurant next door or for the church nearby, so parking spots get full when there is space inside. It can get busy on the weekend, especially on Sundays. The toilets are in the bar area, so a small walk to the toilets. They staff are pleasant and helpful. And overall great to be served by.
c. m.
Food is always great, staff are always really nice. But you seem to be forgotten about once you have placed your main course order. Twice we have been and have either forgotten about our dessert completely, or brought the wrong one over. Do enjoy coming here though.
C. w.
Who doesn't love a carvery, this was the best experience we had. Service was amazing and although we hadn't booked they did well to find us a table. Food was amazing and desserts were even better so save some room for puddings
A. R.
The quality of the food is always good quality and great value. The issue that caused us concern on this occasion was the very poor quality of the service.
Once seated we waited a long while for our server to make contact with us, despite the server making contact with other patrons that were seated after us.
The server appeared to be suffering with a cold because on a number of occasions she sneezed into her hands and then continued to serve.
After asking for the bill we waited and waited for her to produce the card machine and after about 10 minutes I went to the bar and made payment.
The previous Sunday I had eaten at the venue with a number of family members and the venue appeared a lot busier and yet the service was spot on.
P. H.
This restaurant is so popular the only indoor seating available was in the bar. Staff were friendly and helpful. I only had vegetables which I was very happy with, well cooked and hot. The popularity of the place speaks volumes.
P. F.
The amount of people moaning about an 8 minute wait for food really shows how little patience people have these days, somewhat linked to being addicted to social media, Video clips their phone no doubt. You'd wait longer in MacDonalds drive through, it must hurt to stand on your two feet for longer than 5 minutes before you start hurling comments under your breath to the over worked staff of a corporate restaurant chain who have no voice. Mostly aimed at unhappy blokes over 40 that have nothing interesting or funny to say so moaning is all they are good at. Losers. Right, back to the review... The food was actually really good, piping hot and delicious, fizzy drinks are unlimited refills with loads of choice. The staff are exceptionally friendly considering work loads and the place is clean. Some Toby's don't have that Sunday pub carvery feel, but this one does, nice lighting and comfortable seats with partitions between parties makes your outing a little more personal. My only negative (apart from the cringe lord oldies that moan at an 8 minute wait for food) is the ability to go up for more sides, it's like it's frowned upon by people waiting in-line who haven't gotten their food yet (remember they are angry at this point), it would be nice if the sides where slightly separate from where the meat was being served so that 2nd servers could go up for more Mac and cheese without looking like a que skipper. I guess this would require corporate change as they are all the same. Overall 5 stars for this being one of the best Toby's I've been too.
J. C.
I had an issue with my order but was swiftly resolved. I just want to thank everyone involved especially the Manager who dealt with the issue in a professional manner because of this I will continue to use them in the future. He is an asset to your business and once again thank you.
D. S.
Roast tasted great. Drinks too. Parsnips had run out at carvery buffet bar so didn't have ... but there were plenty of other vegetables on offer. Staff very friendly.
J. T.
They serve a good roast. Weekend price much more than during the week and there was a long queue. At that price some other places offer table service.
G. C.
Christmas lunch. Booked for 2.15 , waited at entrance for at least 15 minutes before someone came to see us , by now there was a queue. Said our table was being cleaned etc so thought we would get a drink while waiting. Lots of people waiting but only 1 person serving behind the bar. Eventually sat down, waitress took our order as email I sent in week with our food choices didn't work. Have to say food was excellent, had roast . But so many people waiting and not happy. Wouldn't do it again at Christmas. The 2 hour slot just dosnt work or need alot more staff .
N. R.
Lady seating us was nice. Then service went down hill from there. It was not busy. Had to ask to get a drinks order and what we were having. As we gad baby, some went up then rest after. The 2nd lot had to wait for 15mins for a cook to actually acknowledge they were there waiting. Even though there was at least 3 of them around and saw they were waiting. No, won't be a min. Then still not full when we finished. Had to attract someone's attention to get bill, even though Had cleaned plates off, and said they would bring it. Once got, then had to attract servers attention again after 10mins to pay the bill.
All in all the serves in there was not good
R. (.
This was my first time coming here and it was INCREDIBLE! There were alot of choices of meat like pork, gammon, turkey and beef. I had the pork with macaroni and cheese (I think it tasted and looked like it), carrots, Yorkshire pud and roasties which filled me all the way to the brim. I would DEFINATELY recommend.
A. B.
Excellent food, friendly service and good value for money. Would highly recommend. Only criticism - parking is limited due to its popularity.
S. R.
Great value and a friendly happy Chef. Eat as much as you can for a £10 .... we'll worth it for an excellent roast dinner with 5 meat choices and massive Yorkshire puds.
S. R.
Great value, all you can eat breakfast. Always cooked well and very tasty. Friday morning busy. Tables were still available (9.15am) but might be sensible to book. It's still a reasonably priced and filling meal.
i.
personally I’m not a huge fan of Toby, I only really like the breakfast buffet. Anyways to the point the plates are extremely dirty and I mean it. I have adhd and ocd and I found it very uncomfortable eating knowing my plate was that dirty, and yes I tried to find the cleanest one so don’t come at me for that.
G. C.
Great roast,30 min wait in the dinner queue today not helped by the carver being stopped repeatedly to carve takeout orders. Please can you not do this in front of waiting customers, have a separate area in the kitchen for this.
C. H.
very quiet day (just how i prefer), lovely staff who engaged with my children perfectly, food was yummy but not much of a selection and some was dry as it was under heat lamps, cant really be helped though
S. W.
Staff friendly, helpful, efficient. Veg a bit of a let down there were too many potatoes (roast, mash, baked sliced in sauce) instead of fresh green healthy options. All in all ok for the price
M. W.
Waitress very friendly, not like the Chef who seemed stressed out, we had to wait to be served. No Chocolate Brownie available and No Ice Cream or Milk available for a Coffee!
E. O.
I went today with my family and the waitress (Ebony) was brilliant. Food was lovely but the experience was solidified by the waitress, great service!
S. B.
It is was it is. Breakfast booking for 1030, not exactly the most extensive range of food left, and clearly nothing fresh being cooked. Staff were welcoming, breakfast did its job of soaking up the hangover! 😂
S. O.
Service was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Good tasty and well cooked.
Good value for money.
A. G.
Very good But apart and actually calling in to cancel one person off the party, and this did not happen so when arrived this person was still on my list and then got charged for his starter
J. G.
Visited boxing day .Food and service was great.
Where we was seated was quite chilly though .Guess no heating on
J. L.
Good food very busy..service forgot to supply us with cutlery.
Drinks expensive..
Food prices ok.
Visit once a year on our way to Harwich
M. M. B.
Nice Toby experience. For a Sunday afternoon it was good service and not a mess like some on a Sunday. We waiting for our booked table for around 10-5 minutes, but we're fine at the bar, and then we queued for about 8-10 mins to be served at the carvery. Food was great, even for a couple of vegans (although there is no vegan gravy option!). Friendly service too!.
l. h.
We stopped here after a long journey, we haven't used a Toby for years and were very disappointed... roast or vegetarian options, or sandwiches.
We looked for something appealing maybe a nice piece of fish... only salmon. We chose vegetarian toad in the hole ... Yorkshire was nothing to write home about, chewy. The sausages were the only thing we enjoyed.
S.
Lovely, friendly staff. Great food. Plenty of choice.
T. H.
We were greeted at the door by front of house Lady & taken to our pre booked table, our server RED then came over & took our drinks order, she was very accommodating & was very patient as we had a young child with us who was creating abit. Red told us everything we needed to know & was happy to answer any questions we might have. From start to finish our time there was enjoyable, food was amazing & if you left hungry it would be your own fault. Thanks again to our server RED who was just as amazing.
D. -.
Great grub but very slow service.
This is not fault of the service staff or chefs- The team work very hard but there just isn't enough of them on a Sunday. They're ran off their feet doing the best they can.
P. T.
In the main breakfast was very good unfortunately though there were no tomatoes, fried eggs were quite congealed and not runny yolks and finally the coffee/hot chocolate machine wasn't working so only filter coffee available.
J. B.
As with other corporate dining experiences like Wetherspoons, McDonalds, Pizza Express etc you tend to know exactly what to expect when you go to a Toby. Roasts are what they do and they generally do it well. Prices are keen and I am usually too full for dessert afterwards. If you're made of sterner stuff than me then the desserts are fine although confined to the usual array of sundaes, brownies, ice cream etc. Beers are less varied than 'Spoons, London Pride is as adventurous as it gets. Service is prompt although we have often had to hunt down someone to get the bill at the end of the meal. Pub is clean and tidy and that includes the toilets. Slight downside to our last visit, there was no tea or coffee and the Pepsi machine was broken. Plus, they were out of brownies. All of this takes the shine off the experience but, to be fair, it hasn't happened to me before and it won't stop me from going again.
J. L.
Seemed to be a lack of staff today as it took ages for plates to be cleared. But worst of all there were at one point 15 people queuing at the carvery and nobody to serve. Staff going in and out the kitchen but nothing happened until a young lad called to say people were waiting. Then it took a few minutes before anyone came out. Not good enough.
F. T.
Fairly decent food, was absolutely boiling the day we went & was really busy, quite a queue for the carvery, but okay felt for the poor chef as people were moaning! Good pub grub.
P. R.
We got my chosen table. The food was good quality and quantity. The staff were friendly and efficient.
C. W.
I've been to Toby more times than I can count, it's a great place to pick up a good value lunch and I have a decent time whenever I go. The food is always good and a quality which most people have come to expect from Toby! We've had a few issues at times but they are by no means the norm! If you want a nice place you can eat at good value, Toby hits the nail on the head!
E. B.
Generally great place, yummy food, good service (although our kids favourite lady wasn't there)
C. D.
Meat good selection - fresh and hot.
Vegetables - dry, overheated un appetising visually!
Good waiter service!
N. H.
Was served by new member of staff, Ebony. Who was really friendly and helpful. Carvery was delicious, with no complaints.
V. R.
Good food. Very tasty. Toilets poor, no toilet paper and seats falling off toilet.
G. k.
We booked a table because we knew being half term it would be busy which it was, but we haven't been for a long time the food was good, staff were very busy but they were polite.
J. A.
Great food and very friendly staff and most helpful. Would recommend.
W. B.
Food was great and the service was amazing. Served by Tia who was great. A true asset to the restaurant.
S. L.
Very busy, staff were kind and helpful. Food is decent and a good price
D. G.
I was disappointed to learn that you hadn’t been that well supported during the Jubilee 4 day weekend.
Our meal was totally delicious as per usual. It was the first time that I couldn't manage all of my drink and took the remainder home with me.
Thank you Sam for being a kind and considerate server. I enjoyed speaking to the other staff too. One had such a beautiful singing voice and I told her as much too.
R. G.
First time visiting a Toby carvery. Great food, hot and freshly refilling throughout our visit. Friendly staff. Great value meal.
M. D.
Arrived without booking. There were oven problems so no beef but they still managed to squeeze us in and feed us. As always Toby is Toby... and very nice too! Who doesn't love a good roast dinner 😋
J. F.
Been twice now the staff have been always friendly, and helpful, food is great, absolutely stuffed when I leave, all good,😋
K. J.
Lovely start to the day! Food was cooked perfectly, wide range of food to pick! Would come back!
M. C.
Food cooked lovely and fresh and plentiful of meat given very friendly staff and polite and helpful.
G. B.
Its the Toby Carvery you get what you pay for instant food, dead atmosphere and basic wage service, tipped as always but not sure what for lol
P. C.
Lovely food nice mix veg and potatoes &meat friendy staff and clean place to eat
d. “. g.
Thought I would try a Toby again after many years and although the staff were friendly and the pub was clean and tidy I'm still not a fan of food that's been sitting under heat and will go back to freshly cooked as I prefer to pay a little extra but I know lots of people love Toby carvery and if your one of them then definitely visit this establishment as I couldn't fault it.
K. K.
My waiter today was Kieran great customer service all done with a smile. Nothing was to much trouble.
L. H.
The food was lovely and it was the first time we had roast lamb at the Toby - it was delicious!
D. C.
Service was shocking but granted it was busy. Spent over 20 mins queueing to get food which was at best average.
t. b.
Visit sat 21st May.
Cleanliness well below par. Was given a filthy high chair which had dried food in the seat and looked like the back hadn't been cleaned in months.
A young girl vomited in front of the veg station. Was a few minutes before anyone helped the family, then blue roll was used by a male manager, with no gloves on, to wipe it up. No mop or cleaning supplies were used.
During this time the pass was not closed down and we saw people side step the puddle of vomit.
The food was wonderful as usual, but the cleaning standards leave much to be desired.
s. b.
Great place to eat! Lovely atmosphere and helpful (Ebony) staff 👏 😀
S. B.
The food was all great. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
I t was very busy and the only criticism was the speed of the gentleman carving the meat.
B.
All staff were very friendly, good service and fantastic food.
s. f.
Great food but the que was massive. Worth the wait though.
L. B.
Colchester is the only carvery I'll go to. Food is hot, the staff are friendly and welcoming and service is always full marks!
c. w.
Me and my partner was in on thursday . Had a great evening . But I would like to tell you about your fairly new waitress abbie . I know she's not been with you long we are regulars and I will like to say other than 1 or 2 little mistakes which I didn't mind at all . But 1 or 2 good things about abbie that we watched for is her kindness and she was very apologetic . And further more we noticed when she was taking an order from a little child about there drink and there puddings instead of her standing over and looking down at the child which sometime can be a little intimidating and frightening to a child. she actually knelt down to child level and spoke to the child which we both thought that was very nice and thoughtful from abbie . But I do think abbie just need bit more confidence and I think she would be a great asset to your toby or any restaurant come to that. She is a very nice and nicely spoken . SHE JUST NEEDS CONFIDENCE . So please encourage her and give the odd confidence boost. And I think that goes to all your great staff . Thank you . Oh 1 thing I wasn't impressed in tho was you ran out of heineken lol
T. K.
Absolutely best Toby ever, every mouthful was a delight, hot and tasty.
Paige was a lovely table hostess.
S. C.
Very enjoyable meal and our waiter for the evening was Kieren so friendly and helpful would definitely visit again
E. P.
Food was good and our server Hannah was so lovely! Made the experience much better as it was extremely busy!
J. R.
It really depends on which day you go and whether it's breakfast or dinner, during breakfast service there are very staff on and this leads to various items taking a while to be replenished including hot water for tea! Both breakfasts recently eggs have been like rubber.
A. W.
For a Toby this is one of the better ones locally, or just better carvery out of them all. Been coming here years, good selection and food is nice. Still suffers from having to wait for 20 mins at the start, probably due to popularity tho. Staff are usually great here too. Will keep coming when I fancy a Toby roast.
D. S.
Can obviously get really busy so would always book in advance, decent food with good service though.
D. R.
Carvery - you know what your getting!!!! Doesnt seem much meat but once youve added the veg and stuff it defo fills you up.
L.
The food was great here and the staff was amazing. Had a fussy eater and the staff was so understanding and flexible and helped try to make it a comfortable experience for us. Massive thank you for working hard, being so kind and going over and beyond to look after your customers you all are amazing!
C. D.
Really helpful and positive staff. Good hot food.
D. M.
can get very busy at times but food is good and staff are welcoming and can't do enough
r. b.
Food was awesome but the service at the counter very poor
Waiting for the carver quite a while
A. A.
Very nice food lovely, plenty of it. Nice choice of meats scrummy vegetables. Nice waitress had to split the bill but she was great about it.
l. c.
Food was nice and hot , could have been more choice on vegetables, overall good 👍
M. C.
A comforting enough Carvery. Seemed an efficient hot plate that kept even the serving spoons nicely warm on this occasion. Carver was pleasant & friendly upon my visit. You can certainly eat every morsel you put onto your plate here. Will be back although some of the waitresses seem more efficient than others working around them.
D. A.
Excellent as always, great value for money. Meat was really fresh and veg replenished often.
A. C.
Went to Tobys for breakfast, we had gone a few years back and not been impressed so thought it was time to give it another go - and to be fair it was better. The place was much cleaner than previous and the food seemed a bit better. With that said we did queue at the serving area for a bit as staff were rushing back and forth with resupplies and more plates, seemed like they vould have done with an extra person helping... the staff that we spoke to seemed friendly enough and all in all it was an OK breakfast.
J. R.
Really good service on the whole but I did struggle at times in finding our waitress in order to purchase more drinks for myself and family. Dining though was enjoyed in a pleasant enough atmosphere. The food was fresh, extremely tasty and in abundance with 5 different meat types on offer from the carvery; pork, gammon, turkey, beef and lamb. Desserts were a bit of a let down however, as several items on the menu were not available and the kids were left disappointed. I’m not generally a fan of this type of ‘quickie’ restaurant but I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this particular visit.
C. P.
Food and service very good, the waitress Charlene was very friendly and helpful.
J.
It's what you expect and that's all I could ask for. Unlimited food, unlimited drink, and our server Zak couldn't have been more polite.
10 out of 10, would be served by him again.
L. P.
Attentive waitress, decent portion of meat, biggest Yorkshire pudding ever seen and all delicious veg. Perfect.
M. G.
Roast dinner. Long ques. No bacon with Brussels as advertised. Food not bad and to carvery expected standard. Staff nice. No masks worn by many, lots of kids and noise. Around £50 for two roasts, drinks and puddings. Nice not to have to wash up after.
i. w.
Always great food,my brother and sister in laws first time there and they said it was the best Toby they have ever had and the dripping roast potatoes were amazing.
D. B.
I have dined in the establishment a fair few times and I am happy to announce that I have never had a bad meal.
Service is fast, effective and the food is always piping HOT!
A friendly team of staff and they are always extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
I can't fault this place at all and I look forward to my next visit already.
Keep up the hard work
s. m.
Very nice service great lovely dinner thank you
P. T.
Food was really good. Meats and sauces were great. Friendly staff.
s. G.
The food was good, as you'd expect, however the meat choice was limited. One of the party was looking forward to the turkey but they didn't have any and one of the other members wanted pork, but again not available. There was a choice of beef, lamb and gammon. Staff were friendly and helpful.
A. K.
Very friendly staff and an all you could eat breakfast that tasted delicious at a very good price Brilliant.
J. C.
Thank you Sam and staff at Colchester Toby Carvery. They were fantastic! Really great customer service. We had come a ways away to get the TooGoodToGo and they didn’t disappoint. There was a mess up on the app meaning we had to stay longer and Sam very kindly took good care of us. Thank you again. The food was delicious!
C. P.
Been several times and everything has been spot on. Great for an easy breakfast, lunch or dinner
T. J.
Food was fresh, good value with meerkat meals voucher and efficient, friendly service. Tongs and plates a little too hot at carvery station
J. B.
We had a fantastic family carvery meal here. The potatoes and veg were all piping hot . The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our son has been there several times and said no matter what time of the day him, his wife and children have been there it has always been really hot potatoes n veg.
We will definately be back. Thank you Stanway for a very enjoyable meal and also for being very understanding that some of us had deafness problems
And turning the speaker off above our table before we got there.
R. R.
The food and the staff were lovely. We've been to a few tobys and this must be the most flavoursome. My girls enjoyed the roast but especially the macaroni cheese.
P. G.
Good value for money, staff were very helpful and welcoming
R. N.
Food was amazing aswell as the staff. My kids thoroughly enjoyed it aswell, amazing place for family gatherings or dinner dates etc. Highly recommend the Mac and cheese!
M. D.
Great family atmosphere, there is a reason Toby are king of the roast, staff were very helpful.
N. F.
Went here for an early Mother's Day and it was ok. Ran out of spoons at the hot drink bar so I used my fingers to squeeze the tea bag which was ok. The food was luke warm but was edible, but the bacon was a bit hard. Personally i didn't like the Sausages as there was some sort of herb in them, think onion or leek flavour Sausages would be better, but that's just my personal choice. Wasn't busy and its a nice atmosphere inside. Will be back at a later date.
L. S.
We were served by a lovely lady with red hair when we went to Toby Carvery for lunch yesterday. She was very polite and helpful, and we didnt feel as if we had to wait very long before our table was cleared after we had finished eating.
The food was great and really good value for money, and also child friendly - Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice, well priced meal out for their family and friends!
C.
Fantastic place to eat and drink. The carvery was fantastic meat was fantastic and the staff was fantastic.
c. w.
Food very nice hot drinks did not taste very nice
G. D.
Was alright, took a while to be seen and carvery wasn’t the best I’ve had at a Toby but it was alright. Potatoes were good but the Yorkshire puddings were really crispy and no amount of gravy helped. Lots of vegetarian gravy though which was good as my loyal follower knows I am a veggie. The normal potatoes were fine but apparently the beef ones were apparently really good, best Toby ones they’ve had so far, however my boyfriend is very easily impressed 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
S. M.
Pretty standard toby. Food average but it's a toby. Staff very attentive and friendly from bar staff to chefs. Clean. Good standard food.
S. G.
Always my favourite place to eat. At least 4 choices of meat and 5 on a Sunday. Help yourself to as much vegetables and gravy as you like, toilets always clean and fresh and refillable soft drinks are great. Staff are so friendly and helpful on the phone and in the restaurant. Definitely worth the money for what you get and never room for a dessert. Not without exploding. Just been again today just as yummy !
S. S.
Food hot and tasty. Waiting staff friendly. Same could not be said about the chef. A hello and a smile wouldn't have gone amiss.
D.
They managed to fit 5 of us for in at peak time on a Sunday - when they pointed out that the booking I had made was for the previous day.!! An error on my part 🤦🏼♀️
J. C.
The meat is always perfect but sometimes the veg is a bit lack luster(can lack flavour and seasoning)
L. P.
Food is always of a high calibre and the price is extremely fair considering it is a buffet. I would highly recommend booking a table ahead of time because it can be quite a long wait otherwise, which is understandable.
G. M.
The breakfast buffet though plentiful, was on the whole tepid to cold. Everything had been cooked, but the keep warm was nil. The bacon was plastic and the hash browns soggy. The coffee was cold. So I'd give it an ok at best.
But the most amazing thing was the thick people who put their used tea bags into the new teabag jar, incredible how stupid some people can be !!!
M. J. R.
Great Selection of veg with carvery
Friendly staff
Attentive but not too much, just the right balance
L. P.
Excellent service and great food as always. Update, still good, although the Yorkshire puddings look great, and are huge they are so thin there is barely any flavour to them.
R. B.
Good meal staff always helpful. Toilets are disgrace The chain Toby need penalised for the poor maintenance. It makes you question whether you should eat there. What's the kitchen like!?
S. R.
Staff were nice enough, but the mash was flavourless, the beef was too fatty and the turkey was very dry. The veg had been sitting too long and had dried out. Not to the level we would expect from a Toby
M. M.
The restaurant was quiet, lots of staff on duty,Table service was poor, staff uninterested in us glass of wine was put down heavily on the edge of the table not even put in front of the customer she spoke no words.
At one point 4 staff members chatting at the bar, waited a while for dessert to arrive. Waited a while at the carvery but when the gentleman turned up he was excellent lots of conversation. The food was very good and very hot
T.
This is a Toby Carvery so you know what you’ll get, decent roast dinner at low prices.
W. T.
Had a nice roast this evening and enjoyed very much. However the staff need a holiday on how busy they were. Don't forget everyone that whilst your enjoying Bank Holiday weekend many are working hard. Thank you for a pleasant evening. Now boss man give em a day off or bonus.
F. L.
Absolutely my favourite Toby in a while (visit them A LOT!🤣) Everything still as fresh and delicious parsnips! (8.30pm) The chef serving was sooooo friendly and professional along with all the other staff, very friendly and good vibe when you walk in. Thankyou so much, it really does make a difference after a very long day of working outside! 🏳️🌈❤️
c. p.
The service is great and the staff are lovely! The food is always amazing and tastes heavenly :)
D. J. E.
An enjoyable meal in a not too busy atmosphere. Managed to save scraps for Hamster who, naturally, had to wait in the car. He is still licking claws and lips! Let's go there again he says!
M. N.
Standard Toby Carvery. Pigs in blankets were burnt so won't bother getting them next time.
P. R. (.
Delicious food. Fast service and plenty seats for families
S. E.
Carvery was very busy (Sunday 7th), very long queue for the food which was not helped by the server often stopping serving us to deal with takeaway orders. Shocked that my plate of vegetables ( I'm vegetarian & didn't want to wait over 25minutes for a vegetarian option to be prepared) cost over £11 just £1.50 less than having meat!! How can that be justified??
R. H.
Was OK for a midweek meal, but the constant interruption from the lad serving was a tad annoying by the end.
R. A.
Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings.Food could be a bit hotter.
A. S.
Great place for some good grub. Definitely recommend 👍🏾
I. H.
Food great well cooked, friendly staff.
R. F.
The white Hart toby brilliant be glad when the hot weather has gone so we can have another
B. B.
As usual good food but not great. Service is friendly and good value
M. J.
I never been to a Toby Carvery before and I thought the food was amazing and the staff was perlite and friendly x
A. H.
Hazel is FANTASTIC!!! Her customer service is EXCELLENT!! Nothing is ever too much trouble for her!! She is a real asset to your company!! Give her a pay rise!!!! She is always lovely and soooooo helpful!! Make her manager!!!
T. J.
Beautiful juicy neat and nice atmosphere but don't bother ordering desserts or starters if you are looking for a slap up meal. Would go again
C. E.
The roast beef was very tasty but very fatty. And I found the sitting area was quite dark so unable so clearly see the fatty meat which spoilt it for me but when vegetable option were very good as wes the service
G. R.
Went to the Toby carvery colchester last night for the festive meal.
The food was very slow to arrive as were the drinks, obviously the main course was a carvery set up but we queued for a good 10 to 15 minutes waiting for the meat to be replaced, I had the beef which to put not too fine a point on it was tough and riddled with fat, the potatoes were to die for and the Toby gravy was as ever wonderful, but the Yorkshire pudding was hard on the outside and not really cooked on the inside it was like a badly cooked pancake on the inside all in very disappointing.
Then to crack off a lacklustre visit my two pints of Heineken were both off and flat addmitedley they were exchanged with no fuss for a proper pint but should not have been served like that in the first place.
J. H.
Food was as good as always! Zak was extremely polite and helpful and he made our experience a delight!!
S. M.
Friendly helpful staff.
Food was ok but potatoes appeared undercooked and sausages over
G. T.
Absolutely delicious food. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Well worth a visit.
L. H.
Very tasty breakfast and wonderful friendly staff.
T. B.
Very nice carvery. Yorkshire puddings were particularly tasty. Would of had another one but that would of been greedy!!
Will be back again very soon I'm sure
E. B.
We visited couple of weeks ago. Food was delicious and service was great. All food is now being dished up for you and refillable drinks are done for you too. We had great voucher of their app so dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids, 4 puddings, pigs in blankets and 2 refillables came to only £30. Very pleased.
C. D.
Lovely place to eat staff very helpful and
pleasant
D. B.
Didn't have Carvery as on a diet but had coffee which was nice and strong. Just what I needed first thing on a Sunday morning before a day out!
M. E.
We had a lovely early christmas lunch with some of the family that live in Colchester
L. H.
Not bad. Food was good but gravy was salty. Service was good too. The only problem is long queues form for carvery when busy. But being busy means it's a popular place.
D. P.
Hi my wife and I went here for a Xmas lunch with our youngest daughter and her partner and three children we hadn't seen for two years because of covid we a wonderful time the carvery was fabulous especially the Yorkshire puds they were enormous our vegetarian meals were great the waitress was spot on the Xmas decorations beautiful very glad I booked 😀 😊
G. S.
Had a booking canceled for wifes 60th birthday so booked table at toby stanway.it was a blessing as food was superb and service was brilliant. Made us feel very welcome and did not rush us.we had a table for ten in a nice private bay .will be going back there all the time
M. a. M. S.
Excellent service, lovely atmosphere and very friendly polite staff. We had a group of 17 attend and nothing was too much trouble. Thank to all the staff for being so accommodating
s. r.
Went for breakfast, well below the standard I have received in other Toby Inns. Poor quality sausages, cardboard like bacon and waiting for fried eggs. They have only got 3 stars because the staff were helpful and friendly.
L. B.
Very personable staff, and the food was as usual very good.
s. f.
Great food, staff were very nice and helpful. Very busy when we went so patience is needed 😁
C. B.
Visted today just the two of us. Absolutely fabulous from start to finish!! Food was glorious (I had the lamb he had the brie and broccoli parcel) finished everything. Was absolutely delightful!! Staff couldn't do enough for us throughout and we friendly and helpful. The chef was an absolute ledge. Chatty and professional even though he looked like he was cooking himself bless him! Was so lovely!! Honestly was excellent!! X x
D. C.
I think it’s a nice Toby we go to two captain manby when on holiday white hart when at home staff are lovely
M. W.
Really pleasant lunch spent at the White hart. The staff were very friendly and the dining was delivered in a really covid aware manner. The food absolutely outstanding. If you like a roast then I doubt that there is a better place to go. There are also some really good deals available on the app. It was my first experience of a Toby Carvery and I doubt it will be my last. Highly recommended.
J. G.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Didn't have to wait too long for our table. Food was good
C. F.
Parking is an issue, not a great selection of ales on offer, get in early, don't sit in the queue area for food you will probably be trying to eat at your table with a que of people looking to park there bum on your table while waiting...
C. B.
Nice friendly atmosphere. Staff very attentive
R. C.
Good food but a bit crowded
Staff were very helpful
J. R.
Very filling indeed. Lamb on the menu was nice too. The soft drinks machine ran out of gas but the staff rallied round to fix it and brought us water in the meantime.
B. Y.
Received an email for half price meals, was very busy but very organised.
Delicious carvery , excellent service, never disappoints.
E. H.
Went to this beautiful place for the first time last Friday for breakfast with the lads from work and OMG what a breakfast all you can eat for I think£5.99 I might be wrong. Anyway the food is fantastic the staff are all very friendly 😊. I highly recommend this lovely pub 💯👍🙏😊🥃👍
D. S. (.
Lovely friendly staff, good food reasonably priced
M. S.
Fantastic food at fantastic prices!
Went for breakfast and it was the dogs pollocks ( pardon my use of hybrid creatures ). Food was fresh, piping hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and non judgmental of the gigantuan plates (plural) i had.
One of the pictures on the wall was comparing the guiness world record yorkshire pudding to a modest 1 bed room flat which left the mind boggling, how big must the oven have been .... ill leave that with you.
j. w.
The staff were very friendly and cheerful .
P. O.
Had never been to this Carvery but all good value for money. We went today Wed lunchtime. Not busy. Staff attentive and carver helpful. Choice of meat a bit thin, excellent turkey , beef not that great to look at and nothing else. Unlimited veg available , roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding. Ambience is a bit dark in places so best to ask for a window seat .
Pic is of Eton Mess. Delicious.
1.
Great sized carvery. Go for King size. It will fill you up. Great selection of food, gravy and sauces. Friendly staff and they offer free Carvery (normal size not king size but only £1.99 for king size upgrade) on armed forces day!
H. H.
Lovely .. only unfortunately no place to sit inside in quite cold weather
D. C.
Simon our server was fantastic food awesome will be coming back
B. J.
A huge pile of food for breakfast good choice of items and loads of toast how can you fault it , found this Toby the best of several in my area and the one we come to also excellent value for money
H. J.
Best carvery I've ever had
B. W.
Great value friendly efficient staff
M. P.
Very busy as everyone seemed to have a voucher. Nice food, friendly staff especially Hannah, and a great price
H. D.
Lovely food, lots of it, good choice. Friendly staff.
D. V. (.
Served by Hannah we had a lovely meal and service was perfect.
S. B.
Have missed sitting inside and having a carvery.
Even with all the limitations in place, my meal at the Toby was faultless.
Staff were attentive and polite. Food was absolutley amazing (couldn't resist the King Size plate)
Clean, tidy, fast service even during a busy period.
Will be back very soon
S. C.
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Good value for money both breakfast and carvery. Brilliant service as always.
P. G.
Good food reasonably priced. Friendly efficient staff.
R. T.
Friendly atmosphere, great carvery, fantastic staff couldn't be more helpful, I personally recommend that anyone pays a visit to this restaurant.
A. G.
Very good carvery & outstanding service & lovely manager in Sam. Myself & my wife had a lovely time there. 👍
A. S.
Always a pleasure to visit. Had a birthday breakfast here with the family and nothing was too much for the staff. Breakfast items were low on arrival but the staff refilled these almost immediately.
P. s.
Excellent food service a bit slow carvery chef also replenishing vegetable dishes
D. G.
It is not a bad Toby. Seating is not the best but that's based on the old building.
S. J.
The staff were very friendly & helpful
The vegetarian sausages are awful no taste you can get much better ones
The roast potatoes were so hard
J. E.
Always a good meal, staff are friendly. If you are having soft drinks go the refillables it will save you a lot of money.
M. M.
Friendly staff beef was cooked nicely the gammon looked a little dry but this could of been due to time of day veg and potatoes were all good
W.
The food was reasonable for the price but the beef could have been better quality. The staff were friendly and helpful. I have to eat gluten free which although possible due to the vegetable gravy having no flour it did give my a very limited option of accompaniments to my meat and due to their being no labels on the food counter relied on me looking up what I could have before going up. It was busy when we visited and was very hot which made it difficult to eat hot food. The line for the food was quite long which felt longer in the heat. Better labeling of allergens would be a definite improvement and gluten free options on request such as Yorkshire puddings would be a nice touch.
I. K.
Nice meal up to a good standard at this venue. Not to crouded staff friendly and helpful.
s. a. a.
Lovely staff lovely food great company. Always a pleasure to eat here. Roast dinner meat lovely and soft lovely potatoes and good choice of veg.
Love the pudding choices we had a sundae next time maybe treacle pudding helps the British Legion. So go along and enjoy a good priced meal for family and friends
L.
I took my gran for lunch with her sister, both elderly and gran was in a wheelchair, access was good and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The serving staff were pleasant and polite and made us all feel very welcome. The carvery was amazing as ever and we all enjoyed our food and will be visiting again very soon!
L. K.
Highly recommended, very covid Frendly. Meat and vegetables very tasty. X
C. F.
Both the breakfast and carvery are delicious! Great meals both times I visited, staff were lovely and welcoming too. Just to note it would be safer if you put heat protection of some kind on the plastic serving utensils for breakfast as I burnt my fingers on the mushroom spoon when I picked it up.
H.
Staff were very friendly and helpful to explain the new rules in regards to Covid-19.
Breakfast buffet was plated up by a member of staff but you were able to choose exactly what you wanted and the amounts. Great breakfast, fab price.
j. p.
Fantastic meal service. Lovely day.
C. B. T.
Good food in a nice environment and the service was exceptional. The young lad who served us today really helped make it an experience that makes you want to come back. The lad on the serving hatch was also very good, with a bit of a sense of humor.
You know what you get with this sort of carvery, so it's the service that makes it stand out.
Easy to get to, just off A12, with parking outside.
H. B.
Was served by Zak today. So friendly!! Really on the ball checking we had everything we needed.
Could also see him building rapports with other tables. Really great customer service!!
So nice to have a friendly member of staff at this weird time! Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Really greatful for a last meal pending lockdown.
Thank you Zak. We wish we had cash tips!!!! You got an electronic one so I hope you get this!!
Take care and thank you!!
j. d.
Great all you can eat breakfast. I love the sausages. It is clean and tidy but the cups and bottom of all the plates weren't clean. Had been washed but think the dishwasher needs a clean. Otherwise would be 5 stars
P. F.
No pre booking. Friendly staff. Food perfect. Price fabrastuc. Thank you
J. T.
Didn't quite live up to my expectations. Food not very warm and they didn't have the usual selection.
Staff very helpful and friendly which was lovely.
M. R.
Hannah who served us was fabulous made oir eveining
W. F.
No gas tonight so soft drinks we only available in bottles at bottle prices. Some strange vegetable combinations which I wasn't sure what they were, signs would be useful. Service could have been better, we had to call over the server for all of our orders. Toby is as always good value, but we have better experiences on previous visits.
J. G.
Food was cold and cauliflower cheese had a funny taste to it. Roast potato was very hard and crunchy. Good variety of food. Staff friendly offering more cauliflower cheese and then taking a carvery off bill as not there fault. Staff polite . Nice atmosphere.
C. S.
Lovely return to going out, out! Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the White Hart. Food was good and plentiful, staff were very friendly and the restaurant's COVID 19 precaution measures were reassuring. Big Thumbs UP! I'm looking forward to my return visit.
M. F.
Good food and friendly staff. Leaving 4 stars instead of 5 as it did take a while for them to replenish the food which meant a lot of waiting around.
M. L.
Great Carvery with some interesting Chefs Specials always put out. Be sure to try. Next time I will aim to arrive while the awesome all day breakfast is being served.
r.
thought the meat and veg was great , more people available to serve at the bar
S. W.
I visited Toby Carvery today and when arrived I was politely told it was very busy so I booked a table and came back later, which was absolutely fine.
When I came back, the waitress seemed in a rush but was pleasant upon taking our orders. Unfortunately there was such a long queue for the carvery, by the time we had queued and got back to our table, the coffee and pigs in blankets we had ordered, had already arrived, which lead to them being cold which was a slight disappointment.
The food was lovely and the artic roll was superb. The second waiter we had was fantastic, his name was Martin I think? Made us feel very welcome!
T. B.
Portion sizes are huge as you cannot serve yourself at the moment.
The only thing was the chef who plated your food then took it to your table so there was a delay.
Food was good.
J. F.
I took my daughter and mum here for a meal last night. Outstanding service from all staff and the food was fantastic. Thank you we will be back soon
S. H.
Lovely food and friendly service however, i have never felt so conscious and uncomfortable eating in a restaurant before. The table we were sat at was absolutely fine until tbe restaurant became busy and people were queuing for there food. Having people standing 2 inches away from your table watching you eat whilst they are waiting to get there food is really not what you want. I did tell the server and although she acknowledged what I had said she pretty much just brushed it off. This has really put me off returning to the restaurant
T. B.
Roast dinner all you can eat yum 😋
G. H.
I have been going to Toby for about six years. We go there when we cant be bothered to eat in or fancy a cooked breakfast.
It can be hit or miss, the beef tends to be the food most likely to go wrong because they dont know how chewy it will be until they start cutting it.
The staff are always friendly and because of the odd problem, are no strangers at facing an unhappy customer. Even if we do complain they seem genuinely happy to try and resolve the problem.
The reason we go is, for the money you get a good roast dinner, I stick to the white meat which means my meals have always been good value for the money.
A great place to eat out on a budget.
P. A.
This was our first visit to Toby Stanway, but we all agreed it's a shame it's not closer to home! It was so easy to find and parking wasn't a problem. We had reserved a table and we were seated within seconds of arriving. We all commented how cosy it was, and the staff were really welcoming. The chef - Wes? - was brilliant - friendly, funny and really paid attention to us..to the point that he realised I had requested different meat to what I told my daughter I was having! Very impressed! There was a great selection of vegetables etc with some different and unusual choices. It was all cooked perfectly and everything was fresh and hot, even the crackling was perfect! Well done Toby Stanway - we were all very hungry after spending the morning at Leisure World, and you really hit the spot! Thank you!😁
L. C.
Nice one Toby.. Sunday lunch is a must, well any day is a must, great value, great service always friendly go visit you won't be disappointed. 👍🔥👍😀
J. T.
Tried Sunday carvery here for the first time. Nice location, staff were all friendly and attentive. I had booked in advance and the table was ready upon arrival even though it was very busy. Ordered drinks and tucked in to the food on offer, the cuts of meat were generous and tasty. There was a wide selection of carvery items to fill my plate up with. I was absolutely fit to burst once I finished eating and our waitress was prompt at getting the bill so we could pay and roll out of the front door. I have been to a few Toby Carverys but this was the best of the ones I had visited. Would highly recommend for quality food and great service.
A. C.
Go here quite often but so hit and miss!
Today was greeted by a plesent gentleman, which was nice as that isn't always the case!
Food was nice, however there wasn't much vegetables, and they didn't seem to hurry to bring any fresh out. However I have noticed on a Sunday you get a much nicer portion of meat than during the week!?! Waitress was lovely and polite. Unfortunately today's Dessert strawberry and passion fruit sundae was very bland :(
R. B.
Good food and helpful, polite staff. Highly recommended. Dined here a few times recently and food and service is very good.
O. F.
This morning was our 3rd time in Toby Carvery Colchester. The previous 2 occasions the manager herself was rude to us. First time we wanted to have Sunday lunch and she said by the door that there is a 45 mins waiting we like it or not. Second time I ordered some pigs in blanket (as I never had them before 🙈) and they were stone hard and cold. She took them and behind the bar she told the waitress about us and let’s just say she wasn’t polite while she was pulling faces but I caught her and it was rather embarrassing for her.
But these were about 2 years ago and the first occasion 2 and a half years ago. This morning we visited you again but with our 5 month baby girl and honestly we had such a lovely time. Chelsea behind the bar welcomed us and we saw that she was genuinely lovely towards us with her lovely smile. The food was amazing even though it was at 11am. Chef was worn out but I said a nice big Hello and asked how was he feeling today. I saw it kind of changed his mood (a bit a niceness brightens up people’s day). Please anywhere you go say Hi to the chefs because they are as much important like the floor staff if not more. I overheard the manager who was a gentleman (who always smiled every time he passed us-he was wearing a blue shirt) was asking his staff about rota and a younger waiter gentleman said he can stay an extra hour. I mean that’s the spirit well done! I worked in restaurant business for about 7 years it’s lovely to see how your staff working in harmony and delivering a fantastic service.
For all this we paid about £13
We will become regulars of yours :)
Thank you for changing our mind about your branch and giving us a lovely time. Trust me having s baby can be hard work and can’t usually go out but today was so so lovely.
See you next time
Simon,Orsi and Molly Hope

Food is generally good, no parsnips which is a must for me personally with a roast. Staff are friendly and helpful. Toilets are usually dirty which puts me off a bit as I take my young son who touches everything. Apart from that, generally good.
M. C. J.
Great Atmosphere with friendly team onboard. The Carvery is superb although the Beef is very fatty, love the vegetables and deserts too! Free parking.
The refurbishment of the restaurant has helped with the footfall of customers. Staff are attentive and helpful.
The Carvers on the Carvery area are cheerful quick witted and joyful, adding local cultural atmosphere.
I would certainly recommend. Competitively priced good and wholesomeness.
S. S.
A very nice welcome when you walk in. Attentive staff and great food!
B. S.
Excellent service ,excellent quality excellent food
J.
Great staff and service, food is to die for, value for money on the carvery and deserts are grand.
S. F.
One of the best plates of food I've ever had. Super staff. The man on the reception was so kind as we booked the table the day before we went and he told us places we could try for that night. Great atmosphere too
V.
Table service is always good with a definite friendly smile and good brief conversation with the staff.
The food is exactly what you'd expect from a Toby Carvery, it's hearty, hot and filling. The carving chef always manages to put just the right amount of meat on your plate.
There are 2 reasons why this review is missing a star:
1) parking is a bit of a squeeze most nights.
2) it doesn't always feel very clean in there, the table is usually a bit greasy and there's clearly marks on the wall where someone's sweet little darling child (monster) decided to flick gravy/peas/bodily discharges onto the wall.
But overall, a very good Toby Carvery experience.
J. W.
Always enjoy a meal here, but on the last occasion the food could have been hotter, yorkies a bit flat
B. R.
A little disappointed this time. My wife and I were in Colchester and having been here before and enjoyed it decided to have a bite to eat here. We were seated drinks ordered and decided to King size our meal as we were both quite hungry. Now it was about 15:00 hrs the meat portion was about the same as the ordinary portion, the Yorkshire puddings seemed to have set they were tuff. Overall service great , meal probably not as fresh or as big as it could have been.
L. J. W.
On our second visit to this particular toby carvery it was 40 percent off night.. This we did not know. It was rammed to the rafters with people.. The queue was phenomenal for getting food.. Despite this, we booked a table and waited outside for 45 mins with a drink to get our table. We did so and joined the 20 min long queue to get your carvery..
This team of staff are incredible
. They deserved a medal.. Not only did they stay calm and polite. They served food of still a very high standard compared to Ipswich branch., the Colchester team are truly worthy of a pay rise or at least a bonus from the head office. The manager on duty Mike I think, was collecting dishes. Going into kitchen bringing out food., serving people, and supporting his team fully.
What can you say about Colchester team that I haven't already said.. Except thank you. You are a phenomenal team. Well done.!!!
O. A.
For a Toby carvery it was a very good experience. We were sat and served fast, friendly staff, got given plenty of meat. Obviously it's only a Toby carvery so don't expect perfect quality, but for a Toby it was a 5 star experience.
K. F.
Food was cold today. Our coffee cups only half filled with no tea spoon. Dessert didn't come as described. It's was nice . But not the best. It was my birthday treat so would have been nicer if these little things were right.
T. K.
Food was stunning as always. However on this occasion I somehow lost £10 while there which left me short for my bill. I was so nervous to come clean about not being able to pay in full but I Spoke to staff and they were amazing in helping resolve an unpleasant situation. I'd definitely reccomend. Thank you so much x
M. E.
Very pleasant helpful staff, well run, clean and safe as possible covid wise, lovely manager and our breakfast was delicious and we were not rushed as customers were arriving for dinner and we still chatting - can't wait to return
C. M.
Was lovely on this occasion but wish they'd bring back the ice cream unlimited ....
W. A.
Lovely food and lovely staff.
j. h.
the food was good. a bit disoppointed they are not accepting the Forces Discount card and the one for the NHS.saying its been stopped because of Covid. Not playing the game i think.other pubs are still accepting both cards.Jim H

Visited the white Hart Toby carvery this evening really easy to book a table lovely experience from start to finish upon arrival we were warmly greeted by a very pleasant gentleman who took us to our table and located us a waitress, The waitress was extremely warm and friendly and swiftly took our drinks order and explained about the carvery ,The service for the buffet was extremely pleasant and the chefs and servers were very accomadating whilst we choose our food everyone made us very welcome and made our 3 year old very welcome also and engaged with her as she was dressed as owelette from pj masks and made her smile as everyone commented on her outfit the food was delicious and when the bill came we were very pleasently surprised by the price we will absoloutly return
M. A.
Staff are lovely and welcoming. Was looked after really well. I live in Woodford but was visiting family and we always come to this Toby Carvery. Food is always of high standard and the food is always hot. I always enjoy coming here.
S. W.
An excellent breakfast experience with Santa this morning, made especially special by the elf Carla.
She was very welcoming and understanding of my children who can be hard work at times! Many thanks and thoroughly recommend.
J. C.
Have very mixed feelings. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes bad. Roast potatoes have gone down a strange avenue, they used to be crunchy and golden, now they seem to be dry roast, which do not survive a long time in the trays. Potato dauphinoise very nice, spinach a bit slimy (frozen?). The one consistency is the waiting staff. They are great. Great selection otherwise, both of food and accompanying sauces and gravies.
B. T.
Very nice place. I thought it a bit weird to serve macaroni cheese with a carvery. Maybe they were short of veg? Staff extremely polite. Including manager who showed us in and out waitress was absolutely lovely.
K. H.
Tasty food as usual. Staff were a bit aloof but friendly nonetheless. Yorkshires were especially tall and spacious!
k. b.
Meat portions were a bit small
Roast potatoes were tough and rubbery not crispy ,
w. d.
Beautiful inside, and the food was first class ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
G. W.
It is a really mice place good food and the staff are friendly and helpful
S.
Was so busy had to wait 20 mins even though we booked a specific time. Food was good.
A. B.
Food was lovely, Gammon tasty & lean, veggies lovely & gorgeous dessert. Great value for money. Lovely waiter too.x
C. S.
Nice and friendly staff. The place has had a revamp it's much better. The amount of meat was a much better portion also, two nice slices of meat of my choice Turkey & Pork. Tasty. Would go again no worries.
K. G.
Great carvery friendly staff. Table clearance in bar area could of been a little better is all.
A. K.
Great service and the waitresses and waiters were very prompt in getting myself and a friend in for lunch.
S. H.
Parking is cost but several spaces were available today. Nice new layout inside, service was very good Martin did a great job along with Steve the carvery specialist. Pricing wasn't bad for what we had, would recommend.
L. W.
Very clean. Covid safe. Quite when I visited. 2pm on a Saturday. Excellent service by friendly staff. As always value for money on the carvery.
J. G.
Really enjoyable, the food was great ,beef ham turkey and loads of veg ,cooked to perfection, the service was second to none, we had a wonderful time .This is the third time I have been and I'm looking forward to going 😊 again , I'd recommend anyone to go
M. J.
Really nice food. But what made the visit even nicer was the lady who served the breakfast on the carvery, she was amazing with the children! Was our first visit, but will be coming back for sure!
P. B.
A Toby this is consistently very good. Also very helpful to those people who have a disability like myself. The actual regime is not disabled friendly if you are alone or want to make your own choices but the staff help as much as they can with carrying plates etc. I have been to many Toby all over & I am lucky that my local one is the best of the bunch.
c. f.
What a nice place, we hadn't booked but we're accepted. Staff extremely helpful and the food was nice. Good vegetarian choice too. Just what's needed after a hard day at the zoo. Busy place but still personal and cosy.

Very nice meal. All the veg was cooked lovely. Plenty of meat which was cooked great . Will definitely go back again

This place is great value for money and I have been a few times. There is only one issue I have which would be the customer service received.
Toby Carvery emailed me a voucher to use at the restaurant, a I dint have a printer I asked if I could show the email I received when I arrive from my phone which they said was fine.
When I got there and ordered food they told me after my meal that I needed the printout and they wouldn't accept the email.

Food pretty much as expected but service could of been better.

Table at 19.00hrs, upon arrival was tild that they were running low on pork & gammon, whilst in the queue waiting i see no evidence of a lack of meats, did notice that the cabbage was shrivelled & dry, carrots were hard & stuffing resembling something like a hard dry block, similar to that you sand wood with! Was offered a free dessert but politely declined as i was full from the undercooked overcooked dry veg! Won't be booking again in a hurry

Good selection as always.. havent been for ages it was so good, tho put to much on my plate lol.... only thing id say is the pepsi has no taste
M. B.
Nice roast could always B a little bit hotter though

Good food. Good value. Friendly staff. Lack of choice of drinks when we went but that could of been a one off. I'd avoid Sundays as its always mobbed but for a midweek roast it can't be beaten.

Highly recommended lovely place and food

After a 3 year hiatus in Texas, I HAD to have a Toby Carvery on my homecoming. I wasn't disappointed, great food and value for money as always. This was my wife's first time and she loved it! I hope my next visit comes sooner than another 3 years! YUM!

Loved this Toby Carvery, every other one I've ever been too the food or service has not been very good but The White Hart has totally changed my opinion, we were seated quickly and the service was fantastic, lovley happy funny staff made the meal even more delicious, we left with full bellys and a very good impression, highly reccomend.

Great food... waiting staff nice friendly and helpful nothing too much for them... only downside was the state of the ladies toilets, obviously out of the staffs controls as restaurant was busy... but due to the state had to leave child to wait till we had finished dinner and got him home before going to the toilet

We went for hreakfast, this Thursday, we were a bit late, but the guy behind the bar was so lovely, let us go through, & we were bought our drinks to the table. He then bought colouring things for my granddaughter, I cannot praise the staff enough. Thank you.

Despite being packed out Our meal was excellent. Everything we had was cooked perfectly! Staff were very good too!
Visited Bank Holiday Monday Lunchtime!

A long way from home but still found a "Toby" this chain must have something going for it when you are prepared to make a slight detour because you know the food is going to be good.
This was no exception.
Nice and clean, good tasty food. Friendly staff, good chef too.

Love having a roast with the family. I also get to have the vegetable gravy which is gluten free! Didn't have to wait long. It's a good carvery, just no wifi or mobile signal inside.

Not a great visit on this occasion, unfortunately. Slow service, no beef, not very well prepared e.g run out of plates, veg etc. We waited so long to be served our meat that by the time we got back to our table our hot drinks were just about lukewarm. They were replaced when I asked.
I do feel it was all simply a case of not being prepared for the half term rush.

Went for breakfast with my son Kevin and Laura plus 5 grandchildren, well worth it, we all enjoyed it, plenty food and good price

An okay place , however alot of people miss out on things like mac and cheese and stuffing as restock is poor.
I wouldn't say you get your money worth ..

MY wife and I hadn't been back to this carvery for quite a while owing to an upset tummy to both of us the last time. We decided to give it another go however and went along on Wednesday 25th July 2018.The reception staff were busy but took time to find us a table for 2 fairly quickly, and we were escorted by a friendly young lady.Drinks arrived promptly and we were requested to help ourselves when ready. The nice experience stopped there, however, as we joined the queue to see that the kitchen staff were scruffy and unkempt, with dirty aprons and trousers and an overall appearance of indifference. The person serving had beads of sweat drippng on to the food and when we started to eat we both found that the food was inedible with hard stuffing and burnt veg . We have both been very ill since wednesday evening and will certainly not be going back !

Hugh queue to get food. Was waiting around 30mins. And due to the queue length other staff kept having to try and get through a large portion of people where there was no room to get through. Also due to the gravy station being there people were also trying to get past with full plates of food. The queue system should be at least twice as long as it is at the moment as I am sure the tables near the carvery counter were not impressed with a bunch of strangers standing right next to there table which meant they couldn’t get out. This was on a weekday lunchtime as well so not even a Sunday.

Nice food, reasonably priced. Very good place for a nice roast

Lovely breakfast, especially the breakfast Yorkshires we're amazing!
Sadly there was a lack of choices of teas, but the thing that let The White Hart Toby down were the ladies toilets. One didn't flush, one had no toilet seat & the soap dispensers were empty... all that at 9am!!!

The best Toby I have visited to date. After my visit to Braintree Toby a few months back I vowed never to return, but due to pestering visited Stanway Toby and was unable to fault anything and wow the staff are so friendly and on the ball. Will definitely be returning to this restaurant very soon. Well Done!!!!

Enjoyed our meal, but there was a few things that let it down, every sauce pot was empty, I know it was busy but feel there was enough staff to keep on top if this, also I ordered the jam and coconut sponge with custard there was no jam to be seen, did tell the waitress who laughed and said it must be a dodgy batch !!! So because of this felt it was only a 3 star rating.

Great service, lovely staff and clean restaurant. The only downside was the food counter where there were flies and other customers were using their hands to pick food and place it on their plate, including putting back food they decided they didn't want. I would hope that there would be much more attention paid to this.

We had a problem with our food which we brought to the manageress' attention. She was very apologetic and offered to have my meal replaced immediately. The table waiter also came over to apologise. Although we were offered a free desert, the way our complaint was dealt with was more than sufficient. We'll done Stanway Toby.

All you can eat breakfast for under £5 what's not to like?
The roasts/carvery is actually pretty decent too. Can get better elsewhere.
The staff are lovely.

Lovely staff fresh food. The queue was a little long but its okay only one staff on the meat cutting station.

As always very happy with the food and the service from the staff
see you again soon

Food isn't bad (not fine dining though). Meat portions are a bit on the small side, but you can pile the veg on and go back for more. Not expensive at all (meal and drinks for 4 was £40ish) so a fairly decent plate of food for not too much money...

Who doesn't love a Toby? Great place to go if you want to eat out, but are scraping the pennies. Can get really busy so book ahead, especially at peak times. Always a pleasant experience.

Hi Hazel, thank you for such a warm & friendly welcome we received today at W.H.Toby Carvery, it was a good customer experience for my wife & I. Really good food & the price too, we shall definitely come back & I will tell my friends about T.C. when I get back to Dublin.

Was ok, good value, good food, the staff were pleasant and helpful, but service a bit slow at the buffet, as due to covid, you cant serve yourself, and this stops the flow passed the counter.
B. P.
Good food at a reasonable price. Can get quite busy at times and can wait 20 minutes waiting for a pre-booked table. Worth visiting on a Sunday when you will pay a bit more for the carvery they have roast lamb and extra vegetables.

Never been before, but loved it.

It was very comfy. Staff was there to serve and were very helpful. Seems always busy and children are welcome. Food was lovely and did not have to wait for our food.
C. G.
Today's trip was almost perfect, pork was cooked to perfection, veg and spuds on top form too. Great service to top it off, can't ask for more for £16 each.
M. W.
Food is ok some of the staff are very friendly but that is some of the staff not all sadly - used to be one of my favourite carverys but not what it used to be I find its lost the family atmosphere, just get you in have your food and get you out the door I found . Hopefully will return to former glory soon
J. L.
Typical basic carvery. Don't get me wrong you can't beat huge portions but the meet was quite dry especially the turkey. The vegetables were surrounded by old and dry food which needed cleaning perception was that it looked dirty. The gravy station had puddles around and needed replenishment.
S. S.
Great service and really friendly staff! Cannot wait until my next time there

The Carvery itself is superb (...as always)! The staff (...Chefs in particular...) never fail to impress at Stanway's Toby, they're always happy to engage in a professional, welcoming & friendly manner. It's cosy, spacious & family friendly. They have a sizeable beer garden & the bar stocks a good selection of drinks (Brewdog is available here!). The only reason it's not 5🌟's from me is they've sealed up a lot of the doors & if you're seated anywhere near the actual carvery end of the building, the heat is unbearable & for me personally, makes the experience uneccesarily physically uncomfortable.

Maybe Im being a bit of a snob but Ive never really thought about visiting a Toby. Finally dropped in for feeding and was very pleasantly welcomed.
We were taken immediately to a table, placed our drinks order and headed to the carvery. The extraordinarily surly cook slammed about getting fresh roasts whilst scowling at the growing queue and seemed generally angry at being asked to do his job. There was a joking concern about whether or not he should have been allowed sharp objects amongst the queue who, with typical Britishness, took the rudeness on the chin and managed to turn it into a mild form of entertainment!
There endeth the negatives. The meat, pork, gammon, turkey and beef was moist, well cooked and if we wanted more we could ask (if we dared). The roast potatoes were exceptional - crispy outside, fluffy inside - and whatever that dish was with the sliced assorted potatoes and veg - incredible! Nothing soggy or turning a dull grey in sight.
Pile it up - honestly have at it, but please dont take more than you can eat is the unspoken rule.
The staff were attentive, very polite and friendly. All told - whilst I dont think I would ever want to experience a Sunday lunch there, I would absolutely go back for seconds.

Brilliant as always
Best Toby for miles

A relaxed place to have a tasty " Sunday roast" type meal.
Pleasant staff & service, good variety of food at the counter.
You know what you are going to get at a Toby carvery & for me that's good tasty simple food.

Love the food here always good, only co'mentvi have is the wastage on turkey crowns, the chef threw away what easily wqsc 5 portions if not mor into the bin even of csn be take off breast bone and used for sandwiches or turkey salad. That was pure good meat and how many crowns yiu go through a dsy is significant waste other option, donated to pet shelter to help keep costs down.

For a roast dinner Fast, cheap, good quality, friendly and only down side is the meat portions are to small most of the time.
For breakfast it's all you can eat and it comes highly recommended.

Best Toby I've been to. Food is amazing, plus good portion sizes. Staff are really friendly.
