Reviews of Binary Bar and Restaurant

What a wonderful experience! My husband booked us in for my birthday, and we’d been dying to go. It did not disappoint! Food was delicious and the service was superb! We had Ryan seeing to us, and he was polite and super efficient.
I can’t wait to go back!
Thanks so much for a wonderful birthday evening.
C. H.
Went for their opening Sunday as a party of four and had an absolutely lovely night. It would have been easy to forgive any small issues considering they were fresh opening, but there were genuinely no problems: exceptional service, delicious food, fantastic cocktail flights, beautiful decor and spacious feeling! Ooo and let’s not forget the fancy Dyson taps in the bathroom!
L. W.
Had our wedding meal there and it was absolutely perfect, the service was out of this world and so was the food...highly recommended with 5 stars, had the upper restaurant to ourselves, ideal for private bookings.

Fabulous contemporary restaurant & bar! Great location. Nice 2/3 course menu.
Good wine list - I can recommend the Hillville Road Shiraz.. deliciously fruity!
S.
Amazing atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. There was 11 of us in a group and they got all the food correct and out at once. Probably the best service I've seen for a long time. And the food was delicious with quite big portions for the price.
K. E.
Delicious food, beautifully presented - prices reflected quality so were on the more expensive side but the food is definitely worth that little extra. I can wholeheartedly recommend the garlic mushrooms on toast, mozzarella and salmon sashimi - all were yummy.
Nice staff, modern decor and good atmosphere. We booked and it was pretty busy even on a weekday so would advise doing the same and parking is limited just as a heads up.
S. T.
The food was incredible and the waiting staff were all lovely. The only very slight criticism was that it was a little slow first taking our order and drinks order wasn't taken straight away. But we will definitely be coming back, and we even got a 20% off voucher to come back for brunch 😁
L. J.
Honestly, Binary blew me away. The decor is gorgeous and comfortable. The drinks menus, especially the spirits and cocktails, were really unique and well thought out. The service was good, the food was delicious (again, really interesting options, quite different to the norm) and it just felt like luxury. I can’t wait to see how Binary develops and I’ll definitely be recommending it to everyone I know in the area.
N.
Fabulous brunch, the quality of the food is excellent, as is the service. I will definitely be returning.

Had a really lovely meal here for Father's Day. The price for the quality of the food is very good value and the restaurant has been beautifully decorated and furnished. Service from Francesca was attentive while giving you the space to enjoy your meal. The food itself was excellent with the nectarine trifle being among the best I've had. I also recommend the passion fruit negroni, it works really well while keeping the character of the original drink.
J.
I was really looking forward to coming here, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. The food was 'nice' but pretty forgettable and was quite expensive for the portion size, I wouldn't go back to eat in the evening again. That said, the drinks were good (had a cocktail) and the staff really were a credit to this place, friendly and efficient.

We visited for Sunday lunch yesterday and. It was really nice , only had the main but could not fault it , we all enjoyed it and staff were lovely , will return 👍🏼
J. W.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience. A little confusion over preordered food, but soon sorted by unflappable staff, who were pleasant attentive and efficient in every possible way.
The food was a delight. I will definitely be going back but with a smaller party.
C. B.
Went for dinner and drinks with a friend. Staff very welcoming and friendly, food was fantastic and the drinks presentation was out of this world and so delicious! The menu is fantastic and almost everything can be made gluten free and still tastes phenomenal. Could not fault the entire evening!
K. L.
Service very good. Drinks expensive.Starters excellent.Main meal good.Desserts limited variety. This was for Sunday lunch. We all felt all food needed to be hotter as only warm.

The food was great, loved the atmosphere, questionable customer service sadly. Didn’t provide any drinks menu but that’s the first thing our waitress asked. After that, empty glasses throughout the meal which is a shame because I did want a glass a wine with my meal, needed water for the table and would have loved a coffee with my dessert but she avoiding any sort of contact with us, she seemed to only be interested in bringing/taking away plates. Underwhelming.

Wish I'd have known before visiting that they had a full vegan menu, as since going with a friend I looked on the website. They had some very very nice food, looking forward to visiting again and trying some of their vegan options. A little bit on the dearer side but for a one off or speical occasion is perfect. When we went we walked from my friends house which was about 15mins away, it can get busy around the area if you need to drive and park but there looked like there was a little car park behind the restaurant. Has a great atmosphere and good drink selections.

Just went for a few drinks on a weekday. Lovely warm and cosy place with a vibrant atmosphere. Staff are all welcoming and service is excellent. The best bar in mickleover by a long way! Will be going frequently in the future, can’t wait to go back. And looking forward to having the food next time.
L. N.
Stunning food. I had the sea bream it was a taste sensation; the perfect amount if spice and the fish cooked to perfection.
The staff and service was impeccable and the decor and tables were perfect. I can't fault anything.
C. T.
Went for a boozy lunch, food was good, would have like the option to have sandwiches without the added fries, puds were nice, tables a bit small for 2 so as it was almost empty asked to sit at a table for 4. We went to sample the cocktails and was underwhelmed, 'berry bramble' was nice but couldn't taste the gin and didn't get any dry ice, 'pickled pear old fashioned' was tasty but where was the citrus smoke, couldn't taste or see any, they didn't have the 'smoking lemonade' and no ting grapefruit juice for the 'rum and ting'! Was expecting drinks with added drama but they just didn't deliver which was a shame as this would have made me want to return. It was nice and I wouldn't not go again but it didn't make me eager to go again either.
J. G.
Had a nice meal but we were not shown to the table and were not given menus. The girl who waited on was really good and embarrassed that the person on the door hadn't given us menus. Other than that really enjoyed the night. Singer was amazing.
P. W.
Really enjoyed our lunch. Great menu choices and quality food, and we were well looked after by Roxy. Bonus of 2 for 1 cocktails! Definitely recommended.
E. u.
Very nice decor relaxing atmosphere. Iv been once in the evening for a meal I carnt say I'd rush back to the same menu not much choice and I can have burger or fish and chips at a take away .Had champagne breakfast for mother's day fabulous and yes I would rush back for another one I think you need more choice for evening meals
P. B.
There is no doubt that the food is overpriced for the quality - The food was nice enough, the only dish we weren't really sure about contained the world largest chunks of Chorizo which were just too big and ruined the dishes. The service was the worst part, drinks orders were slow, so we got bored of waiting once we had finished eating and decided to go downstair to the bar and have a few drinks. When we asked the floor manager about our drinks we had ordered with him and paid for 10 minutes earlier, he just said i'm taking payment for the meal now, so just go to the bar and sort it yourself. Considering we had just paid over £200 for the meal, this just is very poor. On a positive note, the venue itself is really nice and will be a good addition to Mickleover, once they sort all these service issues.
J. H.
Really lovely meal and the fish was the best I’ve had! The starters were delicious and the service was really attentive! The facilities were all clean and a lovely vibe in both the bar and restaurant. 10/10 night we will definitely be returning!
N. J.
Nice venue, but not in the right place, no parking.
I was quite cold with the aircon blowing over my back.
Food tasty but not much of it for the price, I wasn't full.
Been once to try it but wouldn't go back.
P. L.
Food is great but the service is slow. It was busy and noisy upstairs but we were seated downstairs where it was nice and quiet. The decor is nice inside and it's a trendy venue.
N. R.
Lovely family meal in this gorgeous restaurant. Food was excellent, one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had and their sashimi also fabulous. Busy and yet service was maintained. Will be back!
R. S.
No idea about the food although I hear they don't have a kitchen? Place is modern clean and trendy. Unique beers and plenty of spirits to choose from
J. H.
The food was nice but felt it was overpriced and the service could have been better
A. G.
Staff, atmosphere all great
Food had a burger didn't enjoy it and portion was small it was like on a child's plate 2nd visit enjoyed the first but I don't think I would rush to go back again. 🙁
G. S.
Fathers day breakfast with the family, the staff make you feel really welcome , it was nice to see them put a bottle of water on the table while we decided what we wanted, I really enjoyed my full english and one of my daughters had the avocado and poached egg on muffin which she said was amazing, the decor and place has been done to a very high standard, I will definitely be coming again to try lunch and the evening meals , good luck to the owners and staff keep up the good work 👏
D. M.
Food was tasty, but a tad overpriced. But the service spoilt the whole meal. Starters came before drinks. Always had to try and get the waitress attention. However she didnt know anything about the menu and was slow. So we were disappointed as the website paints an experience. Not sure we will bother again. A real shame as we were excited for our valentines lunch.
L. N.
Very enjoyable lunch. I had the steak frites and the steak was cooked perfectly, also enjoyed the chimichurri sauce. Puds were also delicious.
J. H.
It was an amazing experience, I'm coeliac and lactose intolerant and the staff were so helpful especially Jude she was just so lovely and attentive, would definitely recommend to family and friends and return again.

Went here earlier today (29th Jan 2022 at 2:30) with 3 of my friends. We chose this time as we thought it would be relatively quiet, despite the buzz around the place.
We were happy to see that the restaurant inside is what you would expect from the brand. Very nicely furnished and equipped. The food as a whole was nice as you would hope for the price. I would personally say drinks are for anything other than a bottle £2 more expensive than you would want and food on average £3 more.
We had one individual with a 3 course set menu and 3 other guests who had a starter and main only. And it is more with the service for the food where our issues sit.
We are aware that this is early stages within the restaurants life however for the price we did expect better service. The service was not rude, far from it. Everyone was lovely and some seemed inexperienced so some leeway should be applied.
It was though, seemingly very unorganised. We were greeted by one individual. And shown to our table. This gentleman left us to view menus and then was never seen again. In our head we did ration that maybe as the table was booked for 5 people not the 4 (one was unable to attend) they were waiting for this individual to show up. Yet after some considerable time, it took one of our party to ask a member of staff to take our order.
Once again this member of staff was lovely. We enjoyed our starters although we did feel the butter was sparse on the sourdough.
Our mains then arrived and this is where we faced another issue. My friend had asked the initial lady could he have conventional chips with his order and no tomato in his burger. It was not until the young girl placed his food on the table that he was told they were all out of chips and that he discovered tomato present. We could maybe forgive the tomato to an extent. However, we felt that the chip issue should have been raised before hand. Ok it is simply a different variation, yet in any other establishment I have been informed of any such issues with food and it was gladly sorted. We did accept that these things occur of course they do!! But the lack of notice on top of the tomato just showed a level of service or care we perhaps expected better of.
Finally our food was taken by another completely different member of staff. And we were asked if we wanted dessert. This is a more than fair question yet I had already ordered my dessert as part of my set menu. And the gentleman seemed to not be aware of this. I had to remind him what i had ordered and it arrived not long after.
I ate my dessert which was nice in its own right and once again presented by another staff member. And my plate was taken away. It was then a long time waiting for our bill to arrive. Yes we had booked the table until 5 to be safe. Yet it was clear we had finished and the time now was 4.50.
We attempted to get the attention of members of staff. We were sat on the upstairs floor, and over in a corner, so perhaps we were hard to be seen. But it once again took a member of our party to request the bill by getting a staff members attention to do so after a considerable wait.
If the restaurant had been busier such waits would I believe be more excusable. However, it wasn’t anywhere near full. Our feedback is simply perhaps assign 1 or 2 staff to a table. We thought a designated waiter or waitress for our table would have aided in every area mentioned above. Instead it felt like we met every staff member and left with a tad sour taste. Especially having frequently visited other establishments within the brand.
Overall food is a tad expensive, environment is lovely and it is a great addition to the area no doubt. However, despite our service not being rude as per other reviews. It was slow and a bit unorganised we felt. In time we hope these issues will be ironed out. But we unfortunately can’t give the 5 star review we had hoped.

+ Great food
+ Elaborate cocktails
+ Reasonably priced
+ Lovely staff
- Slow service
- Unbearably loud, they need to get some sound proofing or soft furnishings in there.
One other minor note is that the chimichurri tasted of nothing. So I basically just ended up having a nice steak with the idea of chimichurri on it. It was just a compound butter which is fine but wasn't adding anything, and chimichurri should be such a big flavour it's a shame. Still rated the steak though.

Food good, service good, lovely restaurant just a bit noisy, background music a little loud. But all in all our party of 7 had a good evening. Thank you

We were excited to try the new bar/restaurant in Mickleover and booked for the 4 course Valentine's meal at £39.95 per head.
The Binary is very stylish and staff were welcoming and promptly took us to our table.
The food came out in good time and was extremely tasty. However, the 1st course/snack consisted of 1 prawn and 1 small piece of melba toast with mash aubergine. These items were served on 1 plate and presented in front of 1 of us without any explanation that it was to be shared.
In my a opinion this was not a "course". Serving 1 prawn as a course was although very tasty, a bit of a joke.
The starter was very nice.
The main, Beef Cap, was again cooked beautifully but was served with a few crispy strands and a miniscule amount of cavolo nero kale.
We ordered the chocolate mousse and custard tart for dessert. Both of our choices were large portions which did not seem to fit with the rest of the theme.
In summary we enjoyed our evening and look forward to returning and sampling the normal menu. I don't think they got it quite right for Valentines but I liked the restaurant and feel it is a great addition to Mickleover.

Lovely interior and all around vibe.
Terrible view of council flats.
No mocktails on the menu, didn’t even offer to create one off the menu.
Lovely starters, main was great however not exceptional. Waited 40 mins for the main to be brought out as it appears waitress had forgotten about us.
S. N.
Delicious food, fabulous atmosphere and service. I recommend the Sea Bream it was a taste sensation. Looking forward to our next visit.
S. S.
Excellent food and service was great, didn't feel rushed. Only gave a 4 star review due to limited parking on site.
A. B.
Generally good food, let down by poor service. We went in for lunch on a Saturday and were quite early ordering. The small plates (especially ox cheek and roast cauliflower) were very tasty and well priced at £6-7 each. However the roast squash main (£15) was the same size except with a tub of rice. The squash sauce was gelatinous, and the dish arrived 10 minutes later than the others - and wasn't even that hot. It was such a shame as the flavours were good. After that it took 35 minutes to pay the bill. Really disappointed as it could be great so hopefully the teething problems are fixed.

Great food. Was spot on. Nice how you can have a lovely Meal upstairs then continue drinking downstairs afterwards. Will be back soon
