Darleys offers an atmospheric setting, ideal for a quite dinner-date. I made a reservation with my partner and the booking process was easy, the staff were the utmost professional, and the food was unsurprisingly great given that the restaurant appears on the Michelin Guide. My partner was disappointed with the little range of options on the menu but still cleaned for plate. The restaurant is also certainly on the pricier end of the market. However, this is the only establishment within Derby to even appear on the Michelin Guide, hence, the prices should be understandable. The best fine-dining experience in Derby 👍

Amazing Saturday afternoon lunch, we always try to book for the 2.3opm slot. So relaxed, gorgeous surroundings, beautiful restaurant & just gorgeous food & wine. Service is always exceptional, friendly & knowledgeable. We love this place & will visit again soon.

Lovely food! Such a nice experience. Staff are very friendly and more than happy to help. Only thing stopping it being 5 is that the bar staff can't seem to get a drink right. Order was vodka tonic and lime cordial. The variations I got were vodka tonic and lime slices. Then vodka and half a glass of lime cordial no tonic. And finally vodka soda and lime. Gave up and had brandy and coke in the end.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere in such a great location. The view from the outside balcony is top notch and worth a visit with a nice drink before or after your meal. The food is excellent in taste and presentation with local produce used where possible. A few more low/non alcohol beers on the list would have been nice for me personally but no big deal. Definitely planning to go back soon.

Absolutely flawless experience from start to finish, from the moment we stepped through the door we were made to feel welcome and the staff were so friendly and attentive to detail. We had the tasting menu and went gung-ho and added the wine flight option which I would recommend… if you’re eating here do yourself a favour and go all out - immerse yourself in the experience… the sommelier is very knowledgable and knows their stuff, so you’re doing yourself a favour. Darley’s has a very relaxing atmosphere - you can tell some money has been spent on giving this place some TLC… we cannot wait to come back here in the summer time and enjoy a meal in the Derbyshire sunshine. I’ll let my photos do the rest of the talking but this is seriously some of the best food I’ve ever tasted - fine dining without the pretentiousness!!

I really wanted to give a higher star rating but there are a few things that I think need to be addressed. I was excited to finally visit under the new ownership and have always loved it before. But sorry to say I left a bit disappointed. The quality of the food was amazing as was the presentation. The reason for my lower rating: You just cannot get hold of them, they say it's because they are focused and attentive on their guests, we are going to be your future guests and it's a lot of effort on the customers part to get in touch. I ordered a vegetarian starter and main but the amuse bouche came out was beef and muscle. Maybe I needed to flag it but as I'd ordered vegetarian I thought they would check The starter was fabulous but my vegetarian main was disappointing there was hardly anything to it. My meat eating companions had lovey hearty portions and I felt short changed. I left hungry (we had the set not the tasting menu). For the price we paid we expected if to be amazing. There were elements that were there but a few things that I don't think are quite there just yet. Other guests having the non veggie options loved it so maybe a bit more love for the veggies.

We visited September 2019 and wow what can I say about this place! Set in a beautiful location this conveted mill is now an amazing restaurant right on the river. We went there for breakfast and took our little dog too. The food was delicious, views amazing and staff really friendly. They made us and our dog lilly feel very welcome.

An absolutely beautiful evening taster menu meal for my wife’s birthday. Service was impeccable. The food was really fantastic. Expected it to be a bit “stuffy” and “old”, but it had a good ambience, decor and feel about it.

Food was nicely presented but lack a little in flavour in some dishes. Didn't feel the flavours on the monkfish plate worked, but the peach dessert worked well. We were a little disappointed that we were not offered the cheese plate just coffee, the outside lights on the decking were switched off and we felt pushed out to the honest. All in all not a bad experience but would probably not rush back.

My partner and I visited Darley’s yesterday for my birthday. Everything about our visit was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing and the staff were lovely, very attentive but not over powering. And the little touches they gave me for my birthday were so lovely. I can’t wait to visit again.

Superb food, ambience and service let down by portion size. A 10 course tasting - fine.., but when it’s two courses and you are given effectively ONE slice of bread .. and the vegetables accompanying the main are carrots and ONE smallish new potato each?? Just baffled as to why they did this. At over 100 quid I could reel off a number of restaurants that do better and leave customers feeling full - Duncombe arms, there’s one. Disappointed and so avoidable. Sorry guys

Fantastic traditional fine dining restaurant. Me personally my food was cooked to perfection with a tremendous combination of flavours however there was a couple of the dishes in particular the soup which tasted considerably over seasoned to the point the pepper flavour over rode the mushroom soup. That being said fantastic experience and would recommend it.

I've not been to Darleys for over 4 years as I've been working abroad ... but my goodness there is no deterioration in quality, the chefs are still AMAZING. I'm a vegan and so often menus are unimaginative, but this one definitely didn't disappoint. Firstly there was a dedicated vegan menu with three wonderful and inspired choices of starter, main course and dessert. My evening was perfect; the welcome (especially as I was dining alone), the menu and food choice, taste and presentation, the service and value for money. What a fantastic evening!!

First time visit, very good. Birthday lunch for my wife yesterday and we both had the 3 courses for £25. I was a bit worried at the start as I thought we were going to be rushed through. We were taken to our table soon after ordering our food and we hadn't finished our g&t"s but all soon settled down to a very nice relaxed lunch. Food was excellent and service attentive but not overly fussy. I would definitely recommend as a special occasion restaurant. The fillet of Derbyshire beef was well lush. Give it a go, I think you'll enjoy.

I have to admit, this is a lovely restaurant and does cater for all dietary needs. I picked off of the vegetarian menu the roast cauliflower soup and for the main, the seared tofu with wilted greens and risotto. The only negatives about the establishment would be the size of the restaurant and the temperature. The room gets incredibly warm and it almost became unbearable. That and the size of the room with all the tables in, feels very cramped. But ultimately the experience was a good one and it was a nice time.

Genuinely one of the best restaurants ever visited. The new decor is beautiful and stylish. We have always rated the food but today was a cut above the previous visits - simply cannot work out how they haven't got a Michelin Star. Every single one of the team working today were fabulous.

Not been since the change of ownership and refurbishment and it was so lovely!!!!!! The food was amazing and so well presented it was like a work of art!!!!!!! Excellent restaurant Darleys is the ideal restaurant for a very pleasant family meal. The picturesque setting by the river Derwent provides a beautiful vista, especially if you get a seat on the terrace when the sun is shining. The food is excellent, the staff are knowledgeable and well trained, and I would definitely recommend it if you were looking for a good restaurant not too far from the city centre.

Birthday sparkling breakfast this morning. WOW!! I can fully recommend this as a treat, but do not eat anything much the night before! 4 courses, excellent choice of truly scrumptious food, best quality, well cooked . Fantastic food, friendly staff and stunning venue. The view of the river is just the cherry on top of a great experience. I’ve had the privilege of visiting Darleys both in the evening and at breakfast, and both my experiences were incredibly satisfying. They provide hand sanitisers placed on each table and have taken Covid measures seriously which is heartwarming in these times. And lastly, the hidden gem that is their terrace has an exclusive view of the river, which is the perfect setting for drinks and a lovely summer meal. Will definitely be coming back.

Experienced the Sparkling breakfast option here the other day, and oh my! Pure luxury! If you're after that fine dining experience, then this is certainly the place. You can see the effort thats put into the food by the skilful chefs - it really is art on a plate, and the flavours match. The setting is beautiful, whether indoors or outdoors - but if you manage to get near a window or drop on with some good weather on the terrace - there's literally nothing like it! Real perfect escapism for these crazy times we've been living in recently! Having seen the dishes served on the evening menus, I'm just dying to come back to try some of their taster menus!

Not been for a while and not sure when, but this restaurant has change ownership. Not that this is a slur in any way. The place is superb. Food was good, starter for was Pork Belly, not the best I've had, and can be be a bit fatty which this was. However, the Lamb Shoulder was absolutely superb all from the lunch menu. COVID attention is excellent and our party was comfortable with their arrangements. Really can't go go wrong at this restaurant.

Beautiful setting, lovely modern, clean restaurant. Very attentive staff and the service was excellent. We had the 8 course taster menue with wine. Although the food was very tasty the portions were very tiny. I actually came away hungry. We have tried taster menus before, the last one being in Krakow, Poland for my birthday last year and the portions were much bigger but then we had the luxury of taking our time between courses. Unfortunately Covid has taken it's toll and because of the 10pm closing we weren't afforded that on this occasion. Taking into account the small amount if food actually served, we thought it was very expensive. But it hasn't put us off we will give them another try and choose from the menue. We don't mind paying more for decent surroundings, customer service and good food, all of which I'm sure Darleys can deliver.

Ate here yesterday 19/7/19, with friends celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We where made to feel very special by the staff, the food was fabulous and the bill so very reasonable. The location is magnificent overlooking the weir. If there was a down side it was parking, very limited, a little daunting if your from out of town, that said, it did not detract from what was a lovely experience. Thank you Darley’s from the bottom of my heart for making my parents’ Platinum Wedding Anniversary lunch last Tuesday so very special. You created a window table for 6 for us so my dad could see the river and the weir, and made us all feel so special from start to finish. We had an absolutely wonderful time celebrating their 70 years of marriage and you all joined in the event to make them feel you really cared, from taking just an amazing photo of us all (we were amazed at the technique) to decorating their dessert plates with a happy anniversary message, taking a real interest in their card from the Queen and just being attentive and cheerful. The food, as usual, was wonderful and the service pretty perfect. This was an important day for us and one to really remember. We really appreciate that you all got that and as I say did all you could to make it very special.

What a treat for my birthday and a fabulous Sunday lunch February 2020. Great food good wine and terrific service in a wonderful setting looking over the river. Just perfect. PS this is a photo of my wife enjoying herself just as much as me. On October 17th 2020 we revisited Darleys after it had been taken over and totally refurbished. What a pleasant surprise we had, the interior has been transformed into a little lovely environment even in these Covid times it was warm and inviting. We had heard various reports from people who had visited Darleys both positive and negative but we like to make up our own opinions and we were not dissatisfied at all. The food was excellent the lamb was cooked to perfection whilst the service just as good which made for a great evening for my wife and myself. The only downside was a party of six who were somewhat loud but even that didn't spoil what was a very enjoyable occasion. Hope this helps prospective customers.

Few things stand out like not having the towels in the mens topped up for over an hour and more amateurishly, a thick straw in our Old Fashioneds (really?). Not far off but needs a bit of work in several areas to match this type of place in bigger cities for me. Can't argue with the lunch time prices though.

We’ve been going here for over 10 years and absolutely love it. Their food is amazing from the bread to the meat to the dessert !! This is our favourite restaurant by far. The setting is so beautiful , no other place can compare. The staff are very knowledgable about food and are very caring and thoughtful. It’s always clean and welcoming. They make the best food I’ve ever had. I’m surprised it’s not Michelin star as it definatly gave sat baines a run for its money !! Of corse far better priced ! Their soufflé is so perfect ! Gravy makes your lips sticky like Aidan Byrnes (famous chef - Mancester house) thanks Catherine and team for the best food memories we’ve been all around the world and still always come back to you💫❤️

Excellent care taken with our booking so the experience was great from the start. I left a message on their machine on a Monday (closed) and they rang back on the Tuesday before I got round to ringing them! They made a careful note of dietary needs (and checked them when we arrived) Our table was ready for us when we arrived and we were offered to take our drinks at our table or in the lounge area. The food was excellent - delicate to fit with the time of year but filling! The pesto dressing with the parma ham was piquant but the tarragon sauce with Guinea fowl was yummy, yummy, yummy. Sadly my party didn't want desserts (I had my eye on the chocolate platter) but the coffee with petit fours was a welcome way to finish the meal. The service, and the ambience and the food wall gracious and excellent. Parking is limited though so allow a few minutes for walking from across the bridge perhaps. I'm already looking forward to a 3rd visit some time!

We have been going to Darleys for a number of years now and are never disappointed . My husband and I went for lunch yesterday and were delighted with our meal and the excellent service. We particularly wanted to write this review as my husband has been very poorly and now has very specific dietry requirements which make it very difficult to eat out. We did not think it would be possible to go to Darleys again, but after contacting Kathryn the owner, and providing her with a list of problem foods , she liased with the chef to make sure my husband had a very enjoyable but "safe" meal. As each course was delivered to the table the staff re-confirmed that the ingredients were ok for him to have. A huge thank you to everyone at Darleys for being so attentive especially as the restaurant was full to capacity.

We visit Darley's a few times a year for special occasions and love the restaurant. Our latest visit didn't disappoint and we were blown away by the presentation and quality of the food. See the attached photos to see why!

This restaurant is Excellent!! I know they do great deals for Sunday Lunches but we went on a Friday evening to celebrate my Birthday, its definitely a 'Treat' restaurant as it is a little expensive but with the quality on offer deservedly so.. The first thing you notice is you're not automatically shown to your table (this is the norm here) but instead are seated in a very nice Lounge area in the middle of the venue, the staff then give you the menus to peruse whilst serving you drinks and complimentary nibbles. After about 20 minutes you're then shown to your table, all of the tables are by the windows overlooking the river- very nice. The food and drinks on offer are very good with lots of choice, the staff are really attentive and provide a convivial atmosphere. As Darleys is very popular I would recommend you book early, even the Sunday Lunches were booked up for 3 weeks in advance. Next time I'm a little flush I will return. Enjoy.

It's very traditional, good food, pleasant staff but a little stuck in time, a bit dated and smells a little damp when you first walk in. But please don't let that put you off. The service is excellent!

A lovely venue overlooking the Boars head weir on the edge of Darley Abbey's West Mill. The food is exceptional and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. I recently tried an extraodinary 7 course tasting meal which included a croque monsieur with onion soup to Die for. Enjoy a cocktail or sit on the terrace between 10.00 and 12.00 to enjoy coffee and cake. Dog walkers welcome for morning coffee. Arrive early, the tables fill up quickly.

Our experience at Darley's was sublime. Their customer service exceeded expectations by a mile! We were by no means easy customers yet the staff at Darley's couldn't do enough for us. A special thank you to Ali and Hannah for ensuring our night was excellent. The food was a work of art and really gave us that 'WOW' experience. The chefs are very talented! A big thank you to all of the staff for being so attentive, kind and accommodating. Would highly recommend hiring Darley's as a venue to anybody considering this.
