Reviews of Slice of India
Good variety of food, plenty of space, good parking and reasonably priced.
Have just eaten here in Derby have come from Birmingham. Very impressed with the food buffet. Massive variety and tastes to suit. With a dessert section. Thank you also for the consideration made for my partner who is disabled. The manager sat us in a booth near the buffet. Good disabled parking. A very pleasurable experience. A double thumbs up from me and would certainly eat here again. 👍🏼👍🏼
The unlimited buffet experience is good to try out but the quality is not great as quantity. The end to end dining experience is good and ambience is also good but the quality is degrading by time to time. Definite try out are dosa stall and chat things to avoid are grill. The place has good amount of parking spaces behind the restaurant. It is a recommended to book the table otherwise you need to wait for a lot of time during weekends.
Loved it was able to get us in time we wanted, food was amazing, good choice and variety, must be good if place full of india people. Loved this place well recommend
+ main food buffet tastes alright.
- food was cold.
- dessert selection does not taste good, weird aftertaste.
- they did not showcase that the marshmallows are NOT halal, meanwhile the rest of the food is.
- HYGIENE NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED. Toilets smelt like excrement; the food collection area cleanliness needs to be improved too. Cleanliness in general is lacking...
We visited at the invitation to an extended family member's 50th birthday celebratory meal.
Although food I had was ...ok ...it was far from anything special. It's all about catering for large numbers and ' eat as much as you want' Thought hygiene standards were good. Our table for 16 was only available for a two hour window so felt rushed at the end of the meal. Hardly had a chance to talk to many of the other guests other than those sat immediately to hand at the table.
Suggest booking a local Indian food restaurant particularly if you can take your own booze would prove more civilized, enjoyable and definitely prove better value for money ( to my experience more than likely cheaper) and, you would enjoy table service.
Having said that the place was undeniably popular and full.
Good quality food and plenty of choice. Premises are clean and spacious and there is a large parking area to the rear. We will be back.
Superb as usual, came in for our wedding anniversary meal with my daughter and her fiancé and our baby Grandson in his pram . Food is amazing here recommend to everyone to try.
We had a fabulous meal , it's all you can eat buffet and my word was it nice , the staff was just brilliant and helpful . Would recommend and it's now on our favourite list
Nice atmosphere, busy, great service. Always seem to have the same selection of food. Pricey as having to pay for soft drinks separately that are expensive.
Superb as always, I've never had a bad dining experience here. Staff are efficient and friendly so I will certainly be back.
The food here is really awesome with lots of options. The live counter for stir fry was delicious. The dessert collection is an absolute treat. Totally recommend this place.
Great value. The food is much better than other similar buffet type venue's. Loads of choice and all food was hot and freshly cooked. Good service aswell.
This place is amazing. The best buffet in derby right now. We felt so welcomed by the staff. The food is the best.
As always a great place to dine out with the family although very busy on a Saturday evening, I'd have like to see perhaps some control on numbers given the pandemic.
Looks Luxurious indian restaurant with a reasonable price. It's a buffet kind of restaurants with friendly staffs.good for family or company parties. And best for family day out. You will get unlimited refill for coke, lemonade and diet coke. The dessert is a definite plus. You can have indian chat, pizza, nuggets, biriyani, boiled rice, naan, and few different indian curry along with dosa, sides like papadam, fried fish, and more.Pleasant music all time long.
Went back after few years and quality has gone down in general. All lamb dishes are terrible, including Sheesh kebabs.. desserts were disappointing as well. Probably won't be going back anytime soon.
Fantastic service, Ambient environment and children friendly .The food is top notch specially the typical Indian Street food.I am happy to find this place in Derby and definitely will recommend to anyone looking for authentic Indian experience in Midlands.
Nice selection of food to choose from. Kids running round while people are walking round with plates of hot food is not so good but overall enjoyed it.
Prompt service and good food, everything is well signed so it's clear to know what it is. First time visiting, will visit again.
Slice of India is best place to have dinner at Derby, which is enough spacious, relaxed Indian self service buffet with varieties of familiar dishes, it's famous for both vegetarian and non vegetarian, especially you can have unlimited food on buffet Service. It includes lot of Indian dishes are tandoori mushroom, veg samosa, onion bhajji, chilli potato, dosa, egg fried rice, veg rice and finally dessert such as fruits ,gajar halwa, gulab jamun and ice cream are all awesome taste,to conclude had a wonderful dinner at that time.thank you slice of India for giving Indian dishes taste.!
The food and variety here is amazing, the quality is good. I've been several times and I never get bored of the food
Well this place was surprisingly fantastic! It's location is a little odd but what you get is buffet, eat as much as you like Indian food, with some.wesyern dishes thrown in. Certain items can be cooked fresh for.you. it is fantastic, delicious and dangerous to eat so much amazing food!
Excellent food for the price. Well optimized menu and have got balanced options for both vegetarians and non vegetarians . Excellent place for people who like Indian food and in buffet environment.
08-03-2022
There have been some modifications in menu recently. For e.g Dessert options have been increased.
Great selection of food and quite tasty. Most the staff are nice and are ready to help.
Best partie excellent food and excellent staff wouldnt go anywhere else for a meal buffet style restaurant food for all tastes love it here
Chloe the receptionist was Lovley . She showed us to a quite table as my daughter has autism. She fetched my grandson a highchair and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Lovley food and lovely staff .. fair price and boxing day too. Will definitely be returning 😌
Food is really good. Service is excellent and even when it's busy the buffet is kept well stocked and there is an abundance in variety. I 100%, recommend Slice of India fir a good night out.
First time here, heard alot about it so was excited. The food was good, not the best indian cuisine I've ever had but was ok, seating plan is good, decent 9space for all. Seemed a little overpriced for the food availability, there are other places offering more variety for less price etc so something to bear in mind. The only major criticism is the parking! Absolutely aweful, no lights so its abit dangerous, but there is no clear system! No one-way or anything so caused an unnecessary jam. Apart from that was an ok evening.
Went on a Saturday night and the food choice was fabulous. Masks provided and plenty of hand sanitiser for use before handling buffet handles and spoons. Well done to the management.
Enjoyed food very nice and place was very clean staff was also very friendly,we travelled all the way from Mansfield and it was all worthwhile
Variety of dishes with the perfect flavors. Interior is also quite spacious and beautiful. Prompt service
Food was lovely...staff and especially cooks on Dosa Station was extremely polite n helpful
Currently no buffet. Polite and friendly staff. Meal ready like 5 minutes after ordered. Great taste food.
Descent price for a lovely restaurant
Food not bad. All freshly made. Staff very helpful.
Its as good as it used to be. Staff lovely as usual. If I was being picky, they only do plain naans now. You can't order any special ones. Otherwise fill your little bellies with beautiful Asian food. 😍 keep up the good work Slice of India.
Starters were all bland or dry or tastless but however mains were all good
Saturday night was very busy but service was still very good. If anything the food has improved since the last time I went. Overall very satisfied. Will definitely go again soon
I love going to this restaurant all the time with my family because we always have a good time as a family and I always experience something that I have never experienced before. In Slice of India, there are a lot of different dishes. More dishes that I can count! Each with it's own flavour and texture. If one dish isn't for you, try another! This restaurant is a buffet and is truly magnificent. I always enjoy my experience there and the staff are really nice. There are so many memories created. Slice of India is really a Slice of India.
Got to be 3 years since I last came here and was unsure If it would still be as nice.
It was.
The variety and quality if the food was unreal. Me and my girlfriend both left very full and Impressed. Will be returning again soon.
Have been here loads. The food is at best average!
£16.99 for buffett
£3.50 refill pop
Good for when loads are going out but don't think ill be going back any time soon
Great choice of food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.
Good Indian buffet restaurant in Derby.
Pros
Price
Starters
Desserts
Car parking
Cons
Anything with lamb is not really good. Feels like pieces made of flip flops.
The good:
For a Friday night it was quiet
Excellent selection of mains which were perfectly cooked
Refills on soft drinks albeit at a heightened price to what one would pay for a glass normally. The lemonade / orange crush isn’t 7UP or Tango syrup either.
Building is nice inside and appears quite grand externally too.
Good choices of authentic and British puddings, the apple crumble is lush.
Attentive and friendly waiting staff
Good coronavirus measures in place
The not so good:
The car park, really tight spaces and an abysmal road surface.
Only open 3 nights a week now at the highest priced times
No flavoured naans anymore 🙁
Very, v e r y warm inside with a lack of ventilation / air con throughout.
Overall it was perfectly adequate, make sure you go hungry because it isn’t a cheap night but it’s definitely been an experience I have missed and will be back in the future.
Brilliant Indian Food. Kids love the Desert section.
Some of the vegetarian food choices were not as exciting or tasty and had too much salt
The place was busy which was nice to see but with all the precautions it seemed that the covid may be able to spread widely
Staff were helpful and attentive and overall we enjoyed the visit
Great taste great value quick service
Brilliant had a great night. Highly reccommended.
Great buffet style food with great service
Best buffet in derby - great food, nice ambiance and good customer service. Value for money and ample parking.
1st time we visited 5***** we will return thank you
Nice selection of food, but the chicken was a bit tough and I kept finding grisly bits in the chicken but for the price it was good
Much better experience. Food rich and tasty. Helpful staff.
Excellent food for the price. Well optimized menu and have got balanced options for both vegetarians and non vegetarians . Excellent place for people who like Indian food and in buffet environment. …
Lovely place, lovely food and a nice atmosphere
OMG first time visiting, so much choice which is brilliant, meat, fish, vegetarian, all the accompliments, chips, salad and WOW the deserts fantastic. Very clean, staff friendly and pleasant, great atmosphere. You really need to visit. 👍😍
Always a good night out, always great service and always great food. Very reasonably priced.
A huge party of us attended last night... was fabulous lovely food & waiting staff constantly making sure we had drinks 🍸... Many thanks
The usual buffet format has been replaced with a waiter/waitress service. Most favourite dishes are listed on the new menu. There is also a vegetarian and meat set menu. Tables are spaced well apart and the volume of diners has been limited. Hand sanitiser is available. I felt safe and would come again.
Food was very nice with lots of choice. Caters for all ages too which is always handy. Considering how busy it was when we went, the service was fantastic! Plates were cleared quickly, drinks arrived promptly. Because of how busy it was though, it was incredibly noisy, so not the ideal if you're looking for a good conversation, but then it was a Saturday night, so didn't really expect much more. We particularly enjoyed the Desserts, a lovely finish to a great meal.
I would recommend family to attend weddings and other events
As always, excellent Indian cuisine
Good selection of Indian dishes. The food and the service were very good. And the food is halal
Great food with the correct level of spices.
Desserts section could be improved, but overall good experience..
Amazing selection. Really tasty
We have eaten here on numerous occasions. We are never disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty and there are lots of varieties to choose from.
Lots of their dishes are gluten free and one of the chefs will take you round to point the dishes out.
There is a warm and cosy atmosphere.
Would definitely recommend
Absolutely amazing. Very good quality food and all freshly cooked in front of you. All you can eat buffet and soft drinks unlimited after you pay for the 1st one. Excellent service and great staff nothing was too much trouble. As it was our 1st visit they showed us around. Highly recommend
Best buffet in derby - great food, nice ambiance and good customer service. Value for money and ample parking.
This is a great place to eat if you like Indian Cuisine, as it is a buffet style restaurant you can try a little bit of all those different recipe's that you have always wanted to. If you need a table for two, or a table for 20 there is no problem as the place is huge. The car park is equally huge, and the staff are always helpful, give it a go
Good place, booked at last minute, parking behind restaurant, food good not great but been before and will go again. Price reasonable for buffet (about £17.00per person). They have a 2 hour rule for eating.
Mango Lassie drinks are lovely, drinks additional cost. Staff always nice and friendly. Pizza section too.
Brilliant service food was wonderful. Went on a week day as well and was still pretty busy. Cheap drinks and mock tales where really nice. Staff made me feel welcoming and also helped lot. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent food and value for money. Loads of options to choose from, weather your a vegetarian or non veg.
Child friendly, plenty of private parking. Always fabulous food with lots of choice and always hot. Been to places where the food's cold but never here.
It's unhurried, spacious and efficient staff clear empty plates immediately.
Some places limit your time now but not here. Just graze as much as you like.
A lovely place, well worth a visit😊
First time at this restaurant tonight. All the good things we have heard about this place we knew we had to try it. We was not disappointed. we thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. It was all hot and very tasty. It gave us a chance to try other dishes that we wouldn't normally order. We will definitely be using this place again.
Best Indian/Eastern buffet we've been to. Always very busy but huge space so you can always get in. Great for families, really nice atmosphere. Already eat far too much from the starter selection (and the mains, and the desserts... 😂). We go out of our way to come here and are happy to recommend you do likewise. Also, very close to the Derby Odeon Lux so great way to waste an entire evening!
always a treat eating here. The staff give top quality service and the food is delicious. Very good chefs and a great selection of different foods. My 2 year old enjoyed chips and pizza, my mum enjoyed a mild vegetarian curry and my dad relished in a very spicy curry, comparing it to a vindaloo! well done everyone! we love it here and so do my parents x
buffet Indian food of good quality.
Brilliant place, atmosphere, staff, great choice of food, go again definitely
We've been about 4 times and always with family. The place itself is clean and spacious. There is a great selection of food and desserts. The only problem is the the tummy pain from eating too much!
A plethora of freshly cooked foods, mainly Indian dishes, for vegetarians and none vegetarians. A great “all you can eat” buffet. Service was good too. The only downside was the poor and small selection of desserts. Overall a happy experience.
One of our favourite restaurants in the world - our default choice for a special occasion. The food is top class with an excellent choice for veggies and carnivores alike. The Indian food is some of the best we've come across and there is a great choice for people with other tastes such as pizza and noodles. The buffet format is great - having as much or little of each dish as you desire is great for us. It may be a little pricy but for the quality of the food, the friendly welcome and the whole experience we think that it's well worth the spend.
Great choice of foods (Buffett style). Wife having gluten intolerance is made super easy, with all dishes being labelled.
Having been several times, I can't ever say we have ever had a bad meal 👍
Good variety of food, but bare in mind you have to pay for drinks which soon makes the actual end price rise
Thank you so much for your excellent food today the food was so lovely and my son birthday party 🎉 🥳 was good .fed back from Rajvinder kaur Binning
Very nice staff and food is also amazing .But i don’t understand why they are so fussed about wearing a mask when there are no such guidelines by Govt.UK
Brilliant place with super service and delicious food. Went for New Year's Eve party and had an absolute blast. Will definitely be back again next year. Place was packed but still feeled intimate. Great entertainment. Good place to bring the whole family, even smaller kids.
Came up to see friends and popped in here on a Friday night, and it was excellent. Big, open plan restaurant with a huge variety of Indian food including some stuff you rarely see- the chefs seem to know what they are doing! Staff really nice including the manager who made us feel welcome and explained the system well. I'd really recommend this place for groups and I can see it would be good for parties too.
A reasonably priced buffet restaurant. Friendly staff and really easy place to eat. The decor is a little dated and the atmosphere feels a little bland but everything is expected for this type of buffet restaurant. Good selection of food, unfortunately only 2 meat curries which was a let down considering it is an Asian buffet. But definitely worth a visit all the same.
Really good value and the food is very tasty. Lots of choice and all fresh, I’ve watched them replace and check on the food at regular intervals.
I’m not a massive fan of buffet restaurants but this is my exception. Would highly recommend
Great food, Starters cooked fresh nice and hot. Curries are lovely, my criticism is that the curries taste great and meet is tender, they could be warmer found them to be quite tepid. Everything else was spot on good table service.
1st time we visited 5***** we will return thank you
We were here last night on a break to Derby. After reading some reviews we a little hesitant, but on walking in we were greeted by a friendly receptionist, and then taken to our table.
A waiter then explained how the restaurant worked and we proceeded to get our food. Well what can I say it was actually really good. It was cooked fresh in front of us, and the Chinese tasted as good as a takeaway.
The waiter, a young guy with tattoos on his arms was so professional. If any managers or the owners read this please don't lose that member of staff.
All in all a very nice meal out, don't be put off by any bad reviews, go for yourself and see.
I was very impressed with the quality of the food. I tried the Dal Makhami and was very flavourful I also tried the butter chicken which was very rich and creamy. But my favourite was the Chole Bhature which had amazing spice but was not to spicy and the bread with it was perfect. Would highly recommend!!!
Wonderful Indian Buffet and a Derby institution. Always busy with a hugely varied customer base. The food is delicious and authentic. There is a pizza option =, but the curries are so good I have never managed to try one.
Had a great experience last night the place was clean and the food was great there is enough choices for food and what I did try was very nice. The refillable drinks are a bonus as well however the service on them could be a little quicker I did find myself without a drink a few times. All in this is a very nice place to have a meal I would highly recommend and I will definitely be going back.
A reasonably well cooked restaurant for Indian tasty dishes. This place has a all-you-can-eat option at reasonable price. Can buy drinks at the bar. Very authentic and kids will love.
All you can eat Indian buffet with a good variety of decent food that should cater for most tastes, including a good selection of vegetarian options and even pizza & chips for those less adventurous in your group. Price is also pretty reasonable, with free refills on drinks
I've been going to Slice since it first opened the doors and can say for a long time that it was a top contender for best Indian buffet in years gone by.
We went recently though and the food had really gone downhill. The staff were all lovely as usual and the food was piping hot but the taste of it had changed in some respects. The seekh kebabs they served have totally changed in flavour from the original ones they used to serve.
It might be a change in chefs or an off night but I can't say I want to return in a great hurry after my last visit.
Amazing buffet with a huge selection of dishes
Great starters
Pizza and chips available for those who don’t want to try new food or for the kids
Good selection of puddings
Can get very busy
Big car park to rear of building
Good selection of drinks at the bar
Great staff 👍🏻
After multiple visits to this restaurant its time to let the secret out.
If they would only provide accommodation then I would never have to leave.
A large selection of delicacies are available in the starters which has often provided the only meal of the night, it so good. A large selection of currys are also available which change from week to week so as to offer new experience every visit. Some beautiful deserts with the usual ice cream machine ends the night. If you are not a curry fan, why? But beyond that, there is a grill available cooked to order, a a stir fry area for your delight. All this combined with reasonable pricing and very friendly and informative staff makes a magical evening every time.
Easily accessible with dedicated car park. Authentic Indian cuisine with good spread for buffet; South Indian dishes were not very good. Excellent dessert spread. Overall very good choice to dine out!
This is a great Indian buffet restaurant which our kids love going to. It has an Excellent selection of tasty dishes with lots of choice for everyone. Also includes a western cuisine section with pizza etc. Only slight downside is that the desserts could be better. Overall great place for the family.
I love this buffet it's got a variety of thing to eat and you can watch the chefs prepare it .All the staff are very friendly and the food it delicious. I recommend that you have a stir fry the noodles are vegan.
Great buffet, I really enjoyed the stir fry section, but the grilled chicken and lamb chops take the crown. Also the kebabs, fried fish and tikka chicken were delicious. Unfortunately I didn't have any space left for the various curries.
North Indian Buffet ,Value for money.Taste is avg
Very good food lovely atmosphere i enjoyed the dinner. very large parking
It is truly one of the best experiences of Indian cuisine and the place is lovely.
Excellent table service, delicious food, first time visiting for me, will definitely go again
Menu changes since I was last there 2-3 years ago and it works.
Means methi chicken and keema were great
Been there loads of times for birthdays, when we have visitors even for New year's eve parties. The food is excellent on the odd occasion it's not been up to standard but it's still value for money, nice area for kids to play in and kids enjoy it more because of the different types of food that they can eat. Still enjoy going there.
I heard so much about this place, so went and tried it. Didn't realise it was a buffet, so they nicely took us around the stations and showed us how if flowed. The starters was nice, really liked the fish starter choice. The variety of curries they had meant that you wont get bored. They also had a teppenyaki and grill section, which was different.
Really nice all you can eat, one of the best I've been to. The five stars are because unlike some other places, the buffet dessert lives up to the rest of the food. Everywhere else seems to neglect dessert... Never neglect dessert!
Consistently good and has been for years. Lots of parking and has a good atmosphere particularly considering the size. Good choice of appetisers, main meals and deserts buffet style and a noodle bar where they cook the stir fry in front of you. Free refills on largw soft drinks (a must with some of the fiery starters)
Amazing array of food . Lots to choose from and all very good quality. It is child friendly , with baby seats and baby changing. There are accessable toilets and hygiene is excellent. Would definitely visit again.
Incredible Indian cuisine experience! All you can eat for a reasonable price. A lot of the food is made in front of you in their open kitchen. A good mix of typical and street Indian dishes. If you like Indian food you definitely need to come here and give it a try. Serve most normal British and Indian drinks. They even have a pizza stall!
Good variety. Lots of choice and the cooks will make you that something you don't see on display or the menu. Nice atmosphere, family environment, lots of parking space. Stay as long as you want no pressure.
Staff are amazing. So quick to serve and even without a booking we were given a table in no time. The food was fantastic. Fresh and topped up frequently. Will be heading back soon enough.
The place is busy and quite full on saturday. the buffet also includes pizzas, chow mein(fry noodles), chicken dumplings, dosa. the starters are tasty, the main course is lack of traditional lamb on bones dishes. overall it is value for money.
This is the place to be!! Excellent service and food is just amazing. Staff is very pleasant and make you feel welcome at all times. First dining experience with work colleagues in May'12, as of yet the only time I visited. Can't wait to come back :)
Place was lovely and clean, staff were friendly.
Food was really nice and the Dosa was amazing.
Fabulous, freshly cooked food, some of which is cooked as you want it. Lots of choice of many different types of food from the self service style. Staff are friendly and efficient. Good value for money. Highly recommended.
I was meaning to come here for years and then my mum decided she wanted her birthday here. So we went and it was amazing! Wish we went sooner. It's cheap and the food is absolutely amazing!
Nice variety of food and great atmosphere, but didn't apply my NHS discount at the final bill so check it before settling your bill! Would have been 4 stars of not for this.
Just the best Indian restaurant in Derby with a huge range of Indian food from all over the country and even some non Indian for food for those less keen. I was introduced to a Slice of India by Indian friends when I lived in Derby and always try to go when visiting our friends. Highly recommended.
i went there with my indian friend, who told me the food is so traditional that most of her friend have wedding reception ,business dinner, parties etc at there
the food was lovely. you can order freshly made naan bread which is a plus.
there are so many tables and seat you can choose to seat in.
staff are nice and helpful, since im not familiar with all different kind of curry staff are patiently explains to me.
happy customer.
If you like a place buzzing with diners, an exciting and extensive range of predominantly Indian food with excellent alternatives for non-soice lovers then this is the place to dine. Booking advisable during busy periods but a lovely help-yourself menu with fresh food constantly being added to the servery areas.
Great place to eat. All the food is well cooked and tasty and there is a good range for choice
Great selection of Currys; there are other bits that children may prefer.
Hosted a drive in movie and the food and service was fantastic!
Our first visit with friends for her daughters birthday. Food was delicious. Friendly staff. Lovely and clean. Definitely go again.
It's a good buffet place and some food is great but some food was not cooked properly and it is pricey for wha it is its 16.99 a head and the food is mainly Indian not much chinese or english. Think I would rather go to Cosmo as cheaper and more of a selection of foods for kids aswell.
This is my fifth visit to the slice of India and have enjoyed every visit.
The selection is always good and the starters are very nice. A number of the party I was with skipped the mains and had starter and dessert.
Highly recommended for any occasion and at a reasonable price
I had a fantastic time the food was really tasty a great night
Been waiting throughout lockdown for this gem if a place to re-open!! Amazing food and fabulous service!!
Slice of India one buffet that offer lots of food but I was not so happy with it.. the service what not very good didn't explained to us what to do from where to take food or drinks ,, the desserts really poor but still if you like spicy food go and try it. Prices was not that bad for buffet I payed about 12 quid. Toilets was clean and nice , there's no car parking available!
I’m sure we’ve all got our default curry house of choice. This is ours. We’ve been dozens of times over the last few years since it opened, conveniently located as it is right next door to my pool and snooker club which it shares a very large free car park with.
The restaurant is in a large building beneath Roller World, with lovely vaulted ceilings. The décor is very stylish and despite the vast size inside does not feel like a warehouse. The waiting staff and the owners have always been courteous and efficient with us, and plates are cleared promptly between courses.
The food itself is very good quality. You expect to lose a little quality when dining in all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants but I’ve never felt let down by the food at the Slice of India. There’s an exceptional choice of menus which gives you a brilliant opportunity to try out dishes that you might not normally dare to go for. We all have our safe choices don’t we? There’s a great selection of starters, and the Dosas are wonderful. There are cold choices as well as the usual hot dishes. There’s a stir-fry bar that my wife always heads to while I load up on a selection of currys. There are no kormas, if that’s a concern to you, but there is the similar butter chicken. Should you prefer to stay local there are English dishes available along with some nice pizzas.
To finish the dessert selection always goes down well, with the ever popular ice cream, marshmallows and chocolate fountain available too.
The Slice of India is a popular place, and all members of my family young and old enjoy going. It represents good value for money with an excellent range of delicious food.
Huge and busy all you can eat Indian, massive range of food including Indian street food and live cooking stations.
Really good for large parties but equally good for couples and individuals although booking is strongly recommended.
Abience is great there.
We usually go as a family. They are really catering to my autistic brother and don't mind him playing with the mini tuktuk at the entrance whilst we eat. They really make it possible to enjoy the amazing range of food.
One criticism is that the chocolate fountain never working!
Overall the food and the place atmosphere is great but one thing I think it needs to improve on is their desserts, not much variety and taste ok. Some sweets I.e. jelly beans or marshmallow are not halal but you can get great variety of sweets that are halal that could be used at this place. My overall score is 3.5/5, I can't do half a star.
Tasty food, very friendly staff, very nice place
Second time I have been and both times we were impressed with the food as were our friends who experienced it for the first time on this visit. I did find it became expensive for our family as my average height 12 year old came under the adult price of £16.95 so that bumped our bill up. We went earlier on this visit and preferred it as it was less busy.
Nice place but expensive for families with kids over 11.
I do not understand how anyone can write a negative review about Slice of India. I and family have been there many times and love everything about the place. Yes it can seem quite crowded sometimes but if its crowded then that means people keep coming back for a lovely all round experience. Top marks from me.
Authentic Indian restaurant with stellar service and excellent value for money. Gorgeous interior with a laid-back vibe. Only minus is its location - in the middle of nowhere, so difficult if you don't drive. Can you open a branch in Nottingham please?!?
Best buffet restaurant around Nottingham/Derby. A wide range of items to select from and has live kitchen for Dosa, Chole Bhature and stir fry.
Excellent venue, particularly for groups. Plenty of choice, would suggest a little of most things. Vegetarians will not suffer, several dishes provided. Attentive and friendly staff. Only gripe for some might be it can get noisy,
Love it, good food, as much as you want, good quality friendly and efficient staff. Nice atmosphere.
I had high hopes for this place having heard lots of good things about it.
Firstly, the 'starters' area was brilliant. I really enjoyed the paneer cheese along with all the other bits and bobs.
Sadly, the 'mains' disappointed me. I can't remember the name of the chicken curry i tried, it looked really nice but tasted like Chinese style chicken in a gravy sauce. The butter chicken was bland and nothing really had enough kick to it.
Naan breads and various over accompaniments were very good but the 'Pizza de Hutti' (enjoyed the name) was poor and a bit pointless. I was hoping for really good quality pizza using Indian meats and sauces.
Desserts were okay, Mr whippy ice cream is an easy win and I enjoyed the lemon tart.
Decent food good parking but TINY range of actual curries. Only sauced curry available was the lamb Rogan Josh and the Butter Chicken. For £16.95 was not impressed.
Delicious food - great place to try out lots of different dishes in portion size of your choosing. Helpful staff. Lovely family evening. Thank you.
Indian curry buffet restaurant, bit pricey but overall food is great with live kitchen serving some Indian street food.
The seating plan is overcrowded though, and definitely can do with replacing sinking chairs.
As usual Slice maintains quality and taste. Noticed slight change to lay out. We were late on Sunday evening so could not taste me Chinese counter as it had run out of the dish. Not a fan of new system for paani-puri.
Great Food and the Service was Brilliant, can't fault them on anything!! Very happy with the whole Experience!! If anyone is thinking about going to Slice of India, I would say Give it a Go and I'm sure that you will Enjoy it!!
We have been here so much and that, in itself, tells anyone my, our, rating is going to be high.
We have had parties here, we have used the venue as a central easy meeting place to catch up with friends and family.
We had my wife's 40th birthday here ( 50th is her next one!!!)and the staff do everything to make the experience of visiting them with worthwhile.
Oh my... The food!!! I think they have six or seven main curried meals involving chicken, beef and vegetables. Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself.. The starters and poppadoms with the seven different dips: sweet chuckney to lime pickle. I.e. from not so spicy to pretty spicy. Fish bites, sweet chili potatoes... More...They have a stir fry section with green shoots, spring noodles, spring onions and your choice of lamb, prawns and lamb...or have all three!!! The chef will cook it all in front of you and will ask you how spicy exactly do you want to go.
Have I mentioned the English food section and the sweet section??? The best bit... You can have as much as you like but don't be greedy, if you leave a lot of waste you will be billed extra for that!!!
Just to cap it all off... Slice of India makes for a fantastic meal out..
Our favourite Indian restaurant hands down. We've been going there for over 5 years. The staff is excellent and the food is sublime.
A good variety of Asian food (IndoChinese). Serving staff were attentive until right at the end when we wanted teas snd coffee and had to wait 25 mins go be served. Apart from that blip i would highly recommend.
My favourite food was the Butter chicken and Naan bread. Top quality foods, recommend going with your children to have some. Still unbelievably funny how i had a tower of icecream almost toppling last time. XD
Went here with family and friends for a birthday last month. Food was delicious and great value with lots of choice. Will be back soon!
Good renovation of an old nightclub. Large car park. Welcoming interior.
Huge improvement since they first opened. Have a small selection of the most popular Indian foods and have a teppanyaki-like Chinese area, salads and small selection of English foods. Great selection of deserts and the ice cream is the best I have ever tasted. Better than McDonald’s!
Had the usual buffet at lunchtime on a Sunday. £15pp at time of writing and bar area.
Plus a bonus - they take Amex- for all you cashback fanatics like me!
Hmmm, only negative i can say is the chairs...i could feel the springs wanting to poke me.
Food was fantastic i literally ate almost every starter, ate dosa, paturay n channay, grilled lamb n chicken, stirfry and tasted every curry with naan then had some pilau rice. All finiahed off with pineapple and chocolate fountain! So worth £15!!! Go people go eat to your hearts content! Staff always smiling and helpful!
Always reasonable food, though busy most times we've been. Starters are the best as is often the way with Indian restaurants. The Street Food section is good and more unusual.
Really like this place food is always a good quality lots of choice and a great atmosphere
Food was not as good as expected. Not far off the price of a great all you can eat.. (Cosmo). Some sauces were not named. However the pizza was lovely and tasted very fresh!
Friendly staff, warm and welcoming. Lovely food with a great variety to suit all tastes. Reasonably priced drinks too. Well worth a visit ☺👍
Such a great experience yummy food and lovely atmosphere/staff . Also always good
Wonderful service. Food selection incredible & delicious. Excellent value. Highly recommend.
Huge barn like room. As much as you can eat mainly Indian food. The Onion bhajis and lamb chops were lovely. Fresh nanns too. Good value.
One of the best all-you-can eat buffets. Wide selection of different foods from around the world. I'm particularly fond of the teppanyaki style 'make your own stir fry' as well as the street food.
Enjoyed our dinner here - good variety of dishes to cater for vegetarians. You get your moneys worth. Food was nice and staff are welcoming.
The food is really fresh, the staff are really helpful the chicken is amazing & if you like your food 🌶🌶🌶🌶hot the chefs will sort it for you. Refillable soft drinks - pay only once !
It was good food but chair was very uncomfortable .
I was really impressed with this food and I hope I can come here again soon the daal was probably my favourite anyway I think you should try this place
Great food. Friendly staff.
Wide range of food and excellent value.
6 adults and drinks for £131 would recommend to anyone
It was quite busy when we arrived at 8pm. We had to wait for 15 minutes before we were allocated a table. Long queues for main course and chowmin.
Street food is quite good in here, worth 5 star rating, especially golgappe. This chat is just awesome here, better than India. Main course is ok. In starter, pakodas were undercooked today, another disappointment.
In dessert, rasmalai is a star.
Good service, friendly staff and very good range choice of food. definitely recommend
Food wasn't great the last time I went and I've been going there since it first opened. Service is excellent but the food has gone downhill a bit.
Very large Asian restaurant operating on a self service basis. Effectively all you can eat.
Good place for the very hungry. Large choice for starters, mains and sweets. Also Asian street food.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Attentive staff and great quality food for a very reasonable price.
100% satisfied and will definitely return!
Lamb chops are nice. Decent array of food. Could do with better dessert choice. Also dessert portions are tiny. I had about 6.
Very helpful staff, food was hot and great options for vegetarians! shame about the food waste, wish they would charge people for leaving uneaten food on the plates like some other restaurants do.
Nice buffet Indian restaurant around Derby and Nottingham. I just love the starters.
Been here few times. Very spacious restaurant with lovely food. Closest to authentic Indian food that I'm used to back home. Well done guys
Great food great service! First time eating here and for sure not the last! Everything was seasoned very well and the food tasted very exquisite!
love this place staff are always friendly place is very clean and a good variety of food that's always well presented we go their for our Christmas work night out too
Interesting and bizarre mix of global cuisine good value for money and the quality of the food was ok. If you're looking for cheap and fairly tasty Indian and Chinese food this is the place.
Picture taken from car parking.
Anyway food taste is so good. Really a slice from India. North Indian and South Indian both type dishes are available with a variety. Must try.
Amazing fresh food! Good selection for vegetarians. We always cone early, so it's not too busy and food plentiful.
Really nice food! Friendly and fast staff! 100% will be returning in the near future! Fantastic all round.
Great choice and authentic Indian food. Great to go in big groups as 500 plus seats. Good price. Happy days
This place is okay if you are visiting as a family with young children. Self service buffet with options to have food prepared while you wait. A bit like a staff canteen.
Had a lovely meal for my daughters birthday, staff were very friendly, service was excellent and the food was very good.
Love this place, so do the kids, always go out there way to help seat us in a quietier area with our autistic children. Food great too
Yummy food with good Desi Ambience.its good to see people of different cultures eating under one roof.vareity is fine but it's always very fulfilling.desserts corner can be improved but that's fine.always happy with this place. And the staff is very attentive n welcoming too.
Abit over priced and tables where a little sticky not cleaned properly... Chicken was a little tough for my liking with most of the dishes. Otherwise lovely service.
Vast range of dishes for anyone. More than I expected and so well stocked. Like the charge levied on waste left on plates.
Lots of small servings gives the chance to try lots of recipes.
All you can eat Indian buffet! My personal favourite thing here is the "Gol Gappa" station - for those who don't know what that is - it's essentially Indian Street food - definitely worth going! 👌🏼
Very first visit yesterday it exceeded all my expectations great choice of foods, atmosphere was fantastic very busy will definitely be returning.
Great place , with great food . Even though it's buffet , style all the food is still fresh. Some of it is cooked in front of you too
Food is not very good this time 😕
Absolutely delicious best Indian restaurant I've ever had in my life. There are lots of variety of Indian food at the buffay also the dessert is pretty good.
Fantastic place! Lovely curries, always fresh and piping hot! Lovely staff, clean and tidy premises. Keep coming here all the time!
Nice place for Indian buffet. I find food is very tasty and you can find many great dishes including Starters. I will visit one more time to this place.
The reception staff aren't all that friendly at all. But the food is great. Make sure u go on empty stomach! And save space for the desserts
Great selection & reasonably priced. Obviously mainly Indian fare, but also some Thai, Chinese & others.
Pizza, chicken nuggets & other bits for the kids, if they prefer it.
The price was way high for the options they had. I was expecting many different English/Indian curries but all they had was butter chicken and lamb rogan josh. I was looking forward to some korma or pasanda.
Good service, good food. Been here a few times, they have a variety of foods here and cater for most people.
Fantastic food, decor, service and variety. Really enjoyed my meal here recently, thanks very much.
Use this place quite often always good food very welcoming and I always struggle to walk out having eaten way to much would recommend to anyone and theres other options if you dont want Indian cuisine.
Good food, pleasant atmosphere & friendly staff. Consistent standard for a few years. Only one critisicm which is the cost if the drinks which are a little pricey.
Great place, great food, pudding need a bit more effort, extremely dry on night we went but still great place. Definitely going again.
Plenty of choice of food. Very clean and well organised.
Varied choice of food, good quality!
It was very nice food
Nice place, friendly staff and delicious food. All you can eat. But do not waste the food,it is really important!!!
A great place, a large selection of dishes for everyone's likeing, the staff are friendly and helpful, I personally cannot fault the place.
Lovely atmosphere and great variety of food. Loved the experience
Have tried a few of these buffet type of restaurants this one was very good value for money outstanding food quality really good and staff are very helpful and friendly would visit again if in the area
Went for a work meal and we all loved it! Staff were all friendly and the food was freshly and beautifully prepared considering it was a buffet.
Lovely place, many flavours and very kind staff. Big car park and reasonable prices. I recommend it.
Called in on a Friday night at 7.30pm and was looking forward to 1st visit to the slice of India. We were greeted at the door by the staff who remembered a couple who were in my party (Always a good sign!) Drinks were ordered at the bar, and priced at £3.50 for a pint a cobra on tap. And we were promptly shown to our table.
A tour around the buffet by a member of staff and okay, he did speak in that monotone voice that seems to be all the fashion in corporate Britain - if he fancies a career change he'd be well suited for airline check in or the local premier inn on the wyvern!
I found that all the starters were good and fresh with lots of choice, not huge Bhaji's, spring rolls, and other items - but you can pick as many as you want and it's a great way to try out things.
One of my main course selections was a chicken Jalfrezi ,which was very saucy - but i did pick enough meat out to satisify, considering that perhaps a vulture had been before me helped themselves to a bucket load of meat! I took lashings of sauce which i mopped up from my freshly made garlic naan.
I'd also recommend the grill section, cooked fresh infront of you and nicely spiced, with loads of nice healthy salad to choose from!
Oh have a go at the sweet counter, the traditional Indian fayre is scrummy!
The only thing i would say is that you're best advised to go and get your drinks at the bar, while there is waiter service, they are busy as it's all priced down to bums on seats and they're running around making sure your table is kept clear for fresh plates and are always putting fresh knives and forks down on your table for your copious returns to the buffet!
I'd recommend the Slice of India for a good meal at a great price - but don't expect the cosy feel of a traditional Indian restaurant, and perhaps reading some the reviews on here by the minority of people you have to look at the bigger picture - It's a Buffet restaurant, the food quality is good and the service we received was adequate for the £13.95 price per head.
I would go again, and would recommend it for what it is.
Quite good I thought but my friend was sick when she got home afterwards. She did mention her fish being cold but its difficult to tell, but she's not prone to sickness.
Truely enjoyed our night out. Waitress and staff friendly and food was good.
Liked the fried bread things..lol
Great place to eat and great staff. The starters and deserts are amazing!! Chefs are always on hand for suggestions if your a fussy eater like me.
Excellent food, huge variety.
Food was brilliant. The only bad point was when I was asked to pay a adult price for a 10 year old girl.
Excellent food with something for everyone including pizza. Loved the way it was a buffet and you could have as much or as little as you want.
Place is really nice. Food was generally good. I was disappointed not to find chicken biryani. Menu was good.
Something for everyone, I love Indian food and they have such a good selection but equally as good is the pizza, chips salad and stir fry available and if you save room they have a fantastic selection of traditional and none traditional deserts 😊
Really good all you can eat buffet
So tasty, so many options! The pricing on a Saturday is pretty steep though, although considering you get all courses it is not bad.
Fab food, friendly staff. Had this recommended by a close friend and so glad we did.
Normally food used to be very good a year ago. But not anymore now. And the lamb chops was unable to eat. Would not recommend.
First time I've had Indian, very busy but lots of nice food, always plenty there. Nice staff
Nice food and friendly helpful staff but it's a shame that there isn't more variety of Asian cuisine. Worth a visit though.
Lovely food, plenty to choose from and always places to sit. Sometimes a little noisy but keep eating !
Five of us ( my son ,daughter in law, plus our friends and myself) visited slice of India in Derby today. We forgot to book it in advance.Being Saturday (15th July 2017) it was very busy .Lady at the reception was very respectful, accmodating .within few seconds she found a table for us ..food was excellent from starters to main course to desert loved it .service was excellent from the waiters to chefs ..all of them were very courteous..our visitors were so impressed .They said ,they are definitely going to pay a visit again .Next time with their daughter ...thank you to the staff and management for lovely experience..Mrs Vatish
Not been here for two or three years, I think it's got better, the food tasted fresher. Service was good!
Huge, nice staff, good range of buffet food and chefs on hand to keep replenishing it.. Fairly good quality, and reasonable value.
Nice Indian restaurant with a varied choice of Indian dishes as well as a few other choices, the staff are polite and always asking if you want anything 👍
Great Variety. Overall taste is just above the average. Good for Buffets and group hangouts. Reservation is advisable on Weekends.
The food and staff are first class one of the niecest Indian food in Derbyshire am Indian myself so for me to rate this place 5* it’s amazing I highly recommended this place.
We went as a family of 6 and thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant and polite ...thankyou to all
Excellent. Lovely to see so many families together. I celebrated my ruby anniversary last night. We done. !
OK if you're a fan of all you can eat, self service eateries.
Food is excellent, lots to choose from and unlimited portions.
The food was very tasty good selection the staff are friendly the food is fresh and cooked well I suffer with bad anxiety and panic attacks around crowds of people not good if your anxious as it was very busy and the music was to loud and irritating
Its ok, food aint bad but not the best either. the fish, however, is very nice.
Good variety and selection of foods available. Great for families who don't want to wait for too long for a meal to be prepared
Great place to eat with family! Been about 5 or 6 times always good food and service, would recommend
Quite expensive but undoubtedly value for money. Loads and loads of options and delicious food. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Amazing food and service. Highly recommended for Vegetarians and children's food.
The best Masala Dosa I've had in ages!
Huge Indian selection and authentic flavours, also hint of Italian and chinese selection as well.
Try Indian Street food: pani puri or gol gappa, dadhi vada and Tiffin's.. dosa idly etc..
Excellent choice of food. All piping hot. Drinks aren't too expensive either
Delicious food, such a range of food and so many tasty items definitely recommend
Great place and food. It was really busy this Saturday and the drinks service was. A bit slow but to be expected for a busy Saturday I suppose.
Very nice Indian food as well as continental and English. Many varieties in vegetarian and non veg. Good price as well.
Great selection of food. Something for everyone. I recommend the lamb chops and Amritsari Fish.
Very good value and great food selection. The desserts were awesome too
Nice ambience and spacious seating. Staff was also courteous. Food was good BUT not great.
Food was very good, staff however can be quite rude.
Very nice place to èat and you can see your food being cooked. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great as always! The food was fantastic, the service was friendly and the dance and music was loud but enjoyable (31st Dec night)
Great food lovely staff and a very warm welcome by the lady at the front thank you all once again we will be back
Nice Indian dining and very reasonable. Buffet style so no getting waited on. Good food though.
Surprised by how good the food was, I'm not the biggest fan of Indian food but I tried new things and had a really nice time!
Very nice establishment. The food was tasty but the whole experience lacks atmosphere.
Wow wow wow first time here and it’s blown me away
Great food choices but prices are high if you are not a big eater
Lovely food. The person who served us was brilliant. Really made us laugh.
Awesome food, all you can eat for less than £15 each, great atmosphere and easy to get to.
Another good visit. Nice friendly staff with good service. Food choice as usual was excellent.
Enjoyed me evening good service 😀
One of best restaurant for Indian cuisine. Best part is its buffet and the range.. Excellent buffet and what a variety. Awesome.
A great range of beautiful food. Also other choices if you'd rather not have Indian food and/or have children with you.
Fantastic place. Great Staff. delicious food. Highly recommended.
The only place I EVER eat Indian food from
Clean. Professional and good prices . Well done
Bit cramped as a lot of tables squashed into dining area, but food is really nice. Definitely good value.
Food was nice enough for a reasonable priced buffet. Not a massive choice though.
Great food and ambience. Really helpful staff. Went there for an event and it was well organised.
Loved it food was fabulous staff very helpful and curtous nothing was too much trouble for them very good value for money lovely evening was had by all
Although excellent variety and good value for money, it can get a bit boring. But popular with families and large groups.
Good selection of food and the price is reasonable too. Best to book as it can get quite busy.
Good food, however I selected the wrong dish from the counter due too poor labelling.
Good buffet. Plenty to eat. Not restaurant quality though. But for the price it's not to be expected
Good food, too crowded and tables too close. Took long to get our table. Parking a nightmare on a busy day
All you can eat genuinely tasty Indian food. That about says it all. The pizzas and other food items are also nice.
Very nice big selection of food.currys could do with a mix up but other than that its lovely
We went a few weeks ago. Food was good, plenty of choice. Would go again.
Had authentic Indian buffet so definitely worth going of you looking to eat traditional Indian food.
Always fantastic, great range, lovely staff & always accommodating. My favourite curry palace in Derby
Friendly staff and really delicious authentic food. Free parking as well! Recommend it

I really loved this restaurant, the food, the staff and the ambiance.

Always enjoyed by our whole family. Lovely food, staff and atmosphere 😊
The food is so good and I really like the tables how they were set out
Excellent food well presented good standard of service a pleasure to eat at.
Delicious food, great variety and stellar service. Highly recommended.
Good place, variety of food under one roof! Not bad for price either.
Good choice of food, never had a bad meal at this place.
Always good value for money. Very helpful with my Daughter who is a vegetarian with a bit allergy.
The foods OK. But it is a buffet style which was nice
Everything was nice. They are very generous and you can eat most of delicious Indian foods.
Always have a great meal here. Good atmosphere and service.
Quality of the buffet food is to a decent standard.
The staff are fairly attentive.
Wonderful place. Dont need to eat all day if you go here!
Relaxed atmosphere. Very good selection of food. Helpful staff. Buffet.
Brilliant food. Never a bad time to be had at this place. Can't fault it one bit.
I'm not a big Indian food lover but some how I enjoyed this place. That must deserve atleast 4 stars!
Incredible food for the price!!!
Amazing choice of food, good service and very reasonable prices.
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere we celebrated a wonderful birthday and had a lovely time
Friendly staff, good selection of food. They even have the option of pizza and chips.
Good taste of Indian food, nice varieties of food items.
4 star because of same menu everyday.
Go here quite a lot. Been going every year on Christmas day since it opened. But this year seemed different I think it might have changed ownership.
Great value for money, very nice Indian food, many different regions represented in one place
Great place always lovely food staff and cooks are always friendly rose is such a lovely lady always smiling xxx
Great food and staff are really friendly and make your experience great
Nice Yummy food with good variance and friendly staff. We wish something like this was in Edinburgh.
Slice of India is one place we visit all the time the food is beautiful and everywhere is so clean, staff are very friendly and waiting staff clear away pots quickly and refill drinks when needed.
Nice selecto on of food however would like them to change the menu from time to time however five stars for now thanks
Excellent food however deserts where not as expected need more variety.
Decent atmosphere, good food and ample parking. Enjoyed it overall.
Not bad at all. The curry isn’t amazing but for a buffet you can’t grumble.
Nice place, best part is veg and non veg are in seperated section so it's good for vegetarian people
Lovely food, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere.
Nice place, good service and large variety of delicious food to choose from..
