What an absolute treat this place is! Located in the blacksmiths yard (Google maps doesn’t find it). The steak is superb! We had Camembert to start with bread which was super tasty, then we shared a chateaubriand steak between two as it seemed like the cheapest option. It was certainly enough. I love how you cook the steak to your own liking and there is a little instruction card on your table to tell you how long to cook it for. The blue cheese sauce is top notch. It does get quite busy here so may be wise to book a table, we did managed to walk in but we went at about 6/6:30pm. Definitely worth a visit if you fancy a delicious steak!

Went for my sons 12th birthday because has a steak lover and he loved it, great service, fantastic food, outstanding value for money. We will be definitely going back. Really have to recommend the beef dripping and accompany your steak it's to die for.

Went this afternoon and wow the steak was amazing. Food was delicious and presented well and there was plenty of it. It would be nice to have a larger plate in which you can place the cooked steak, otherwise you can over do it. Slightly on the costlier side for a lunch but hey.

Wow! Superb steaks in the historical Blacksmiths Yard within the fashionable Sadler Gate area. The steaks are served on a 440 degrees C stone, so far so trendy, through there is a valid reason for this, when you slice your steak you can then cook it to how you prefer. Good range of drinks, mainly lagers wines and gin. Service is excellent and friendly. Definitely returning 😁. M

Absolutely delicious meal. It’s really fun to cook top quality steaks exactly as you like them. Mains portion sizes are big and really well priced + they have Lilly’s pineapple on tap. The dream. My server Tash was lovely too. I’m only going for 4 instead of 5 because my sticky chill prawns only had 5 little prawns in it. There should definitely be a lot more for £9.

Great steaks, really enjoyed the meal. In fact it is five star place but unfortunately the service lets it down so much. If this was a standard restaurant/ steakhouse I would have given it just 2 stars all due to the poor service. You cannot fault the food but the waitresses are more in interested in gossiping at the till point than checking there customers.

The problem is they dont give you any space to remove the steak from the hot rock so it just keeps cooking and cooking. From the moment they serve you the steak it is already placed on the hot rock and cooking, so if you like your steak medium rare like me then you have to act real quick to cut it into slices and make space somewhere (mine was on top of the chip) to remove the pieces so they dont over cook. Very annoying. Even finding this place was a nightmare. Kept going round and round until finally we found the tiniest sign with the restaurant name. Service was a bit slow but the staff themselves were freindly. If you like your drinks from a can or glass bottle, then you need to mention this otherwise its from the tap. Atmosphere was nice.

Well, it was different.. I had a 12oz steak and partner had the chicken. What seems like a fun and quirky idea of a hot rock, is actually a face full of heat and smoke in a desperate race to chop up your meat with a very blunt knife and then find somewhere on the slab to put it so it doesn’t incinerate itself over the course of your meal. A side plate is needed, or have a rock for the table, so you can cook your meat in the middle and then rest it on your plate. Any sauces or other things added to the stone instantly burn in a puff of smoke and add to the smokey face sauna in front of you and the overall slightly oppressive and smokey atmosphere. The food was nice overall, but the stone concept was not for me and didn’t give a calm or fun dining experience. The staff where all very polite but so busy, sometimes to the point of being a little flustered and chaotic.

This is the only experience I’ve had like this before! To start it was extremely busy so the service was not up to scratch (understandably) we felt so neglected and forgotten until one lady approached to see if we was okay and she immediately got our food to us which I have to say it was the BEST steak me and my partner has ever had in our lives! So beautiful that nothing else mattered! Massive congratulations to the chefs! Shall be returning this Christmas!

Nice place.We don't live in Darby.We was looking for a place to eat.Close to town centre.We was lucky and we got without any bookings a table outside.Food was realy good and it been brought on a hot stone so you will actualy carry on cooking it until you like it. Really nice service and the food was delicious!! Definitely recommend and will go again! The food was all around the £10 range but you got a lot for what it was and the burgers were big enough to fill you up but small enough to actually fit the things in your mouth! There was a selection of chips to have so I had sweet potato whilst my boyfriend had the normal cut chips, these were both very nice. We also went on a Tuesday which meant that it has other customers but wasn't extremely busy, so it was quite nice and pleasant.

Review update: **Since writing my original review I've been back here twice and both visits were faultless. Efficient, quick service, amazing steaks and friendly, helpful staff. The Forge has definitely improved in every way since my first review** The steaks are amazing! They come on a hot stone so you cook them yourself to your liking. Only problem is if you want a blue or rare steak, it might cook too much, because of lack of space you can't take it off the hot griddle so it continues to cook until you finish eating. You could ask for a separate plate and take it off the hot plate I suppose. It was just a bit of a faff. The service was very slow but it was a hot evening and the place was really busy. Only one girl serving on the floor. Also, I booked online and when we arrived they hadn't got our booking. They did manage to seat us though. We ordered drinks which were very slow arriving. We were parched and had to go up to the bar to check the progress of our order.

Absolutely loved The Forge Steakhouse. The most beautiful steak I've had in a long time. All the trimmings that came with it were lovely as well. The steak comes on a stone so you can cook it as little or as much as you like and also heat up anything you fancy, be it mushroom, tomato or chips. First time eating here....had chicken wings and chilli prawns for starters. The chicken wings were delicious and one single portion is enough for two to share to be honest. Unfortunately the prawns were a little overcooked so a bit rubbery but the sauce was good. Having never had one before, we shared a Chateau Briand. It was a great food experience with the hot stone and slicing the rare meat up which you then cook to your taste, and it was delicious, though some seasoning wouldn't have gone amiss. We would have preferred fries (be great if you could have a choice) rather than the thick cut wedges and a bit more than what seemed like a teaspoon of coleslaw. The salad garnish was nice and fresh as was the giant mushroom that also comes on the side. Perhaps a little overpriced as a dish but it is a good chunk of meat that is very tender. If you choose to have this I would suggest sharing a starter as it was very filling and we couldn't finish it all. The only critique we really had was the length of time waiting for drinks and the toilets were untidy with paper all over the floor.

Yesterday was the very first time that my friends and I had visited The Forge (I'd not even heard of it before!) My two friends and I had booked a table for the early afternoon as we wanted to give the place a try and it was certainly worth it! The staff were really friendly and showed us to our table. The interior decor was fabulous and really fitting. There was a variety of choice when it came to steak including an 8oz fillet and a 12oz fillet and Chateaubriand to name a few, along with a more seafood orientated selection and also chicken too, with a choice of sauces to accompany. Now here's the twist, rather than telling the waiter or waitress how you'd like your steak done, you do it yourself! Your steak is brought out on a piece of volcanic stone that is EXTREMELY HOT, so do be careful. But it enables you to cook your steak exactly how you like, so quite a unique and fun experience! Although it can be expensive, it's well worth the price and the portions are fabulous! Definitely the best steak experience I've had so far without a doubt! Will certainly be back again in the future. :)

Went here yesterday for the first time, steak was fantastic, my only issue was by the time I'd got my steak to my preference, my chips and onion rings were Luke warm, so mabey in future as a suggestion bring the steaks out first then chips and onion rings come 5/7 mins after you receive your steak. Ordered the Butchers Choice Rump Steak and wasn't disappointed. A hefty piece of meat that cooks itself on the hot stone. You slice off the pieces yourself and cook it to your liking...ingenious idea. Served with fries, salad and 3 choices of dip (mustard, tomato & bbq) ...I added a peppercorn sauce as well, and all 4 dips/sauces were used with the steak & chips. All in all a fantastic experience and well worth the money. Excellent tasty food and certainly a way to remember a night out eating your favourite food... 5 Stars ⭐ all day long...

Do you like beer? Do you like burgers? Well these guys have 120 different beers and 20 different burgers and they're all amazing. In all seriousness though, this isn't just your average pub that serves beer and burgers. The food is of a gourmet standard, while managing to maintain very generous portions. My plate was piled high with an enormous burger, a pile of fries and a generous helping of coleslaw. The beer costs a little more than most other pubs, but you're paying for the quality and for the variety. If you're an ale enthusiast, particularly of the craft variety, then this place will be like your mecca. The staff are very friendly and perhaps most importantly, very knowledgeable ensuring that you can always get something that suits your tastes. The building itself is very nice, situated in the old blacksmith's yard. They have a pretty sizable outdoor area, with covered seating, where they often hold barbecues and sometimes have a DJ playing music. The toilets are always clean and pleasant and the vibe is generally very chilled out. Would highly recommend if you don't mind paying for quality.

Good quality burgers, plenty of choices and flavour combinations to try. Even my vegetarian girlfriend can find something on the menu to keep her happy. The triple cooked chips are proper crunchy, just how I like them. Went for a chilli burger and the hot spiced chips last time, too hot really, but my own fault. Luckily they have a wide selection of craft beers to cool the mouth. Overall excellent, even if doesn't quite match the standard set by Annie's Burger Shack in Nottingham.

THE BEST STEAK 🥩 I HAVE EVER EATEN! I went to try the forge after the new owners had taken the place over, we had a great night from start to finish! The food was amazing 😬 the mrs was in her element when she found out there was over 100 guns to choose from! The staff were polite and prompt with the food orders. There was a singer in there which was great and created a nice ambience when dining. We then tried the cocktails which were also fantastic! Wow, we normally only eat steaks at the big steak houses as been let down so many times, but not here, the 12oz Rump Steaks we had were amazing. The steaks are still cooking as they are served to you on a hot volcanic slab. The staff are really friendly and the food is superb, you cant go wrong here. The Forge is an amazing place. You do the final cooking of your steak on your individual sizzling stone. I had the Rib Eye and it was a very succulent piece of meat. Cannot recommend this place enough. The Staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be going back.

The restaurant itself is a little hidden away so wasn't overly busy for a Friday night. Inside it's clean, bright and nicely laid out with a good number of tables for a fairly small place. The menu isn't overly priced and has a a fairly wide variety of items, including a couple of vegetarian options. The beer menu is impressive, though don't be surprised if they don't have your first or even second choice of drink. After ordering, the food was brought out to the table fairly quickly. The food itself was of good quality, the chips were all clearly hand cut and nicely seasoned, the burgers looked to be hand made and had a nice flavour and a decent texture. I personally prefer my burgers a little pink in the middle and although the burger wasn't pink, it wasn't overcooked either. I'd personally recommend The Forge as a nice place to get a decent quality, not overly expensive meal and would happily visit again.

Lovely little place hidden away in a cute courtyard which I can imagine would be even lovelier in summer. I had the Mexican chicken burger which I loved, however I would not recommend having the salad as a side. It contained mainly lettuce. But my partner had the mac&cheese side which was great! He also had the PJ burger which he could really vouch for. Overall really nice and we know where we're going for burgers in the future!

Great atmosphere whether you're just out for a drink (I heartily recommend the Brothers Parma Violet cider) or taking time to sample the stunning food (try it all it's delicious) Outdoor seating area is great in the sunny weather and well sheltered and heated when not so sunny. The steaks are amazing and served sizzling on hot rocks so you get to finish your steak to your own personal taste. The chips are fluffy and crispy and the halloumi fries are perfection with a lovely dip to accompany them. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful and the owners really have put their hearts and souls into creating a superb establishment.

I don't want to add too much that has already been said by other reviewers. Not a local person though so took a chance and went in for a drink to start off with the family. IPA was beautiful and other half's double gins were outstanding according to her. So we sat down at a table for the three of us. Looked at the menu and knew straight away this was no Llug and Settuce or other Steakhouse. But the addage about getting what you pay for held true. Just be warned if you are on a budget though. Beautiful food prepared exactly to your liking and more drinks to make a perfect evening for us. Will be back in the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Holly for such wonderful service.

Awesome burgers. Everything was done to perfection. Had the Big Shot burger whitch included complimentary curly fries, spicy tomato salsa, coleslaw and pickle. Curly fries were piping hot and tasted fresh. So did the coleslaw and housemade salsa. The pickle tasted better than any other served in Derby. The burger was colossal and ridiculously good. The portions are massive but you just keep going on and on. Huge beer variety too. Very decently priced. Relaxed atmosphere. Wife enjoyed everything she had too, the fried sweet potatoes she had were pretty awesome as well. Heading back soon.

Ordered through deliveroo and my burger and chips were inedible, my lentil and spinach burger was cold and mushy, it tasted so foul, I had to spit it out, and the triple cooked chips were burnt on the outside and raw in the middle, I complained to deliveroo and they said they will get back to me but didn't, I went to bed hungry and annoyed, what a complete waste of money! Update: they have apologised and offered me a full refund. Even though the food was bad I've added two more stars because the customer service was great

Great for double grinder blind dates! Lovely atmosphere, HUGE drinks menu (if you like your Ales) Really friendly staff, personable manger (Marcus!) and above superb table service (Jordan... VERY persuasive when it comes to the quality of red wine - said there was one with my name on... She was bloody right!) 10/10 for health & safety (assessable carbon dioxide extinguisher at the ready!) and music which doesn't offend at ALL. Lovely combination of wood AND metal effect on the stairs - felt very middle class in terms of post baroque design. A good condiment range available. When you order onion rings, each meal comes with a free bracelet too! Wow!
