Great Location for people with dogs. Plenty options for breakfast and lunch. They have a nice garden outside. After a nice walk at Darley park, we spent 2 hours here.

OMG I love this place. The cocktails are amazing and the staff are so attentive and friendly. It’s warm and inviting and I love the Decor inside and out.
I know business’s are struggling with staff shortages due to the pandemic but they still deliver here with a smile on their face!
Great for morning coffee too on a dog walk- we even took in our Labrador who plonked herself on one of the sofas! They didn’t bat an eyelid. ( we did get her down!!)
Can’t wait for warmer weather so we can sit on the river bank again and enjoy a bottle of wine.
Thanks to all the team for being amazing xx

Visit here frequently and always receive good food, drink and service. Upon my last visit it was extremely busy, with a massive queue and massively long wait times on food and service. The staff members were friendly and apologetic and clearly doing their best under the circumstances, but I think improvements could be made by having more staff (I think I only saw 3 staff members and the place was full!) and perhaps exculsively table service like before, things ran much more smoothly. Hopefully these issues are resolved as I feel a lot of business could be lost otherwise.

Very nice quaint little place, dog friendly with a nice vibe. Customer service wasn't fantastic and they'd ran out of desserts fairly early in the day. Food arrived before the cutlery so we then had to wait a couple of minutes for that, and when I asked for some tomato sauce, the waitress seemed a bit begrudging of my request. There were treats for the doggies which was a nice touch.

Great food and friendly service. Will definitely be back. Enjoyed sharing platter with friends inside and then had a wonderful Biscoff coffee outside by the river.

Really lovely place , met some friends here for dinner and drinks , really friendly staff, dog friendly, the decor is beautiful and the food was fab !

What a lovely place. Totally dog friendly, which is rare around Derby. Tasty and beautifully presented food and good, strong coffee. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. The young girl that served us was helpful, friendly a polite too

Came across this cafe bistro while walking in the Darley Abbey area of Derby. Tucked away in the Mill complex it's ideal for families. In better weather they have river side benched tables. Plenty of tables; a bar serving a range of wines real ales and cocktails. Good coffee/ tea. Riverside walks nearby as is the subtrans 66 cycle track

Nice location and place but the service is always really bad. I don’t blame the staff, I think they are often understaffed or unorganised but it’s a shame. We go there on a regular basis and so often the drinks or food didn’t turn up after over 30min.

What a great venue! Chilled, stylish and good quality drinks at fair prices. Loved the opening day today - we got a snack box with our drinks with sausage rolls to die for. Well done The Cotton Shed, we will be back soon.

Stopped at The Shed for the first time this week after a walk around Darley Park. Arrived at half 11 and was still in time for the breakfast menu. The place was spotless and very welcoming for buggies and babies! A Bacon, Sausage and Egg cob was £4.50 and was huge! Great value for money! I'll be coming back with the rest of my family in tow!

Service was shocking. Not enough staff working. It took 30 minutes queuing to order food & drinks, then they brought the wrong food. Another 20 minutes to buy a second drink. Lots of people were leaving without waiting to be served. Shame, because we have been before and the previous experience was good.

Really enjoyed the festive giant Yorkshire pud filled with cauliflower cheese and roasted chestnuts! There's plenty of space and it's very dog friendly which is good given the close proximity to Darley Park. Would definitely return

Proper hidden gem.I really like it here, Not eaten here yet , only a hot drink but ive been told meals are nice , and they look nice too!.Sat inside and outside by the River Derwent next to the Conker trees Will be fab in the summer.

Beautiful place and staff were friendly. Coffee was amazing. Thank you
L. M.
Great tasting cakes, fabulous coffee, amazingly friendly staff and they allow well behaved dogs. I can't provide a picture of the cakes as we only had crumbs left.😋😋

Very friendly atmosphere. Top food and good drinks. Definitely will go back there. And dog friendly to.

Beautiful setting next to Darley Park and the river makes the shed a fantastic place to stop for a bite to eat or a drink.
The inside is beautifully decorated, spacious and cool whilst there is a lovely mix of outside sunny terrace seating or shady under-tree tables right by the river.
Good selection of drinks and food and reasonable prices. Friendly accommodating staff make it a very enjoyable visit.

Dog friendly establishment. Lovely staff, great food and coffee.

Well there's definitely a good product with a fairly large area and a delightful Riverside gravel terrace that pleasant to sit in and enjoy the scenic views. The waitress who served me was also pleasant and attentive. "However" There are improvements that I felt would make a delightful product outstanding and in my opinion could easily be addressed. I arrived and was directed from the bar which has a member of staff seemingly with very little occupying him and a single waitress who seemed run off her feet and presumably the owner who seemed to be preoccupied with moving chairs to another building whilst like myself and others who were seated and had not been approached to even take the order it was 10 min from entering the premisses before that happened and a little while later my drink was served. I very kindly and politely offered my observations to the waitress who graciously listened and noted my comments. (Hence 4 stars). Having run a hotel, a good manager will look at complaints positively and view it as an opportunity to identify areas that can be improved. I have read every review and the well done for the good ones. However, I noticed that the 3 star minus seemed to have a common thread and that is having to wait what they all indicate were unreasonably long periods of time over service. This tells me there are weaknesses that need to be addressed. Teamwork and all hands on deck. Non customer related tasks (shifting chairs) should wait. As soon as the customer arrives aknowledge their presence cheerfully and let them know they are on radar with regular reassurances and explanations if there are any delays. It can make the difference in huge amounts of money. Everyone expects occasional difficulties but no one likes to feel they are being ignored. That should and can be avoided with getting priorities and teamwork together. That said I wish the owner success. It's a great place you have and I know you can make it outstanding.

We were in the area for a wedding and were running early so we popped in for a drink. One delicious ice cold beer later and a gin and tonic and we were more than satisfied. Beautiful area, very friendly staff and it was rather busy so it's clearly a known gem.

Often grab a coffee from here while on a dog walk at Darley Park !! Lovely place can't recommend enough 👌

Fantastic venue in a lovely spot, we took full advantage of the two for one cocktails. Can't recommend enough.

Burger and drink was great, but left feeling hungry. Still 5 stars though!

Amazing location and lovely good value food. Pretty much spot on.

Had high hopes. Music was great. Decor fab, good vibe going on. Ordered food and drinks quickly down hill from there. Drinks took 20mins starter of cold meats 40 mins. Burger main looked great but was very dry and crayfish risotto had a great flavour initially but looked like the chef had tipped a packet of frozen peas in it, more peas than rice. We both left half our meals and on collection never asked if ok. Drinks were great and we declined dessert and finished drinks. At 22.10 as my husband was driving he asked for a latte to be told even though they are open till 23.00 they had turned off the coffee machine. Could be great but really need to up your game.
R. R.
Very nice coffee, they do soya milk and brie and cranberry cob was very generous.Expensive but very nice.
A. G.
Common courtesy when you pour a whole tray of drinks and break glasses in our face is to at least make the drinks free. My girlfriend clothes were soaked and my coat needs dry cleaning. We even picked up pieces of glass ourselves to help your already overwhelmed staff. 3 stars are for the drinks, the blanket and the vibe but the service left a lot to be desired.
S. G.
We sat outside under a lovely warm heater. Food was excellent and service good too.

A hidden gem. Treated a work colleague to lunch. Buddha bowl was delicious and as a vegetarian I appreciated the choice of options. Idyllic location, staff super friendly and attentive. Would love it if I could get food to takeaway would definitely be ordering the Buddha bowl!

I always like coming down here. During the summer, their set up is superb for just a chill lunch or a quick drink. Never had a bad experience.

Been here twice now. Buzzing little location next to the river. The tables inside and immediately next to the building are for food and drink whilst the tables by the river are just for drinks. Decent service and clean. Food can be pricey for what you get. My wife had the plant based graze box and was happy with it. I had “dirty fries with chilli” which was like a portion of McDonald’s fries with no more than a table spoon of chilli. The price tag of £5.50 was a joke. My wife persuaded me not to complain as she did not want to make a scene though. We won’t be going back for the food
G. B.
An ideal place to stop by. Chilli con-carni is world class!! . Idyllic next to the river so expect to wait a while for service. All the waitresses are very professional, but, "Daisy " deserves mention i feel. Every table smiled and had sunshine over them when she arrived !! ...BOSS, TAKE NOTE!! .......increase daisy's wages or promote her....its people like her that make your business!!!!
L.
Was looking around for somewhere to eat and have a nice snack ( sandwich) - but, they didn't have any pre- made sandwiches..... The nearest thing to smack food was some fries at £2.50p..... So, had to get up and find somewhere else to eat.... Didn't really want "Halloumi Fries"......

Loved this place, the food is amazing and the staff are fabulous.

So great to have vegan mayo for my sausage cob today. Thank you 😊
J. F.
Veggie burger was very disappointing. I’ve been stopping here weekly for a coffee, coffee and location is great hence 3 stars not 1.
Decided to try the vegan sausage sandwich but sold out and offered the veggie burger as a swap, it filled a quarter of the cob and was cheap and nasty. Please can I recommend beyond meat burgers as an alternative.

Lovely place by the river to sit in the heat, shaded by the trees.
Food was beautiful and good quality. Had grazing boxes to eat including a plant based one which was lovely.
Staff were polite and friendly. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

Nice outside area, but service takes a while on busy hours, probably due to being short staffed. For is bril.

Love this place! Such a hidden gem in Darley Abbey that is dog friendly 😻 Not many places let dogs inside these days so this is just a bonus to this amazing place. The food is to die for, such a buzzy atmosphere and staff are so friendly. I would recommend this to anyone!!

Nice settings, surrounds and location.
Food was very tasty.

Have only been during the day. Lovely place to go to for coffee, brekkie etc. Fab staff.
Only downside was one day when we arrived at 3.45 pm and was told they were closed despite the sign saying they were open until 4 pm.
M. M. S. L. (.
Really nice both inside and outside, you can pop in without booking which is a plus

Fantastic venue. Me and my fiancé get married at the venue next door in just under a year so we had to take the opportunity to see the Cotton Shed as soon as it opened. The staff were amazingly friendly and attentive, drinks were spot on and it was great to have the view over the river. Given the difficult times we currently have with Covid I was really impressed on how we were socially distanced without ruining the atmosphere. We were comfortable and assured with the measures that they had taken for everyone’s safety and I look forward to going again. Well done everyone!

Lovely place to stop off for a drink and snack, dogs welcome too. Very impressive interior.

Only moved to Darley Abbey a month ago and have been to The Shed 5 times already. The staff are polite, quick and make you feel wanted, with a bit of banter thrown in for good measures. In these tough covid-19 times and lockdowns, somewhere like The Shed is invaluable as service, but even better when you are met with warmth. Thank you.
