Reviews of Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant Doncaster
S. B.
To begin with, I was in a group of four adults dining, one of us needed gluten free and one of us had mobility issues, both of these things were not a problem at all. The food is gorgeous and portion sizes are fair. Prices are a little on the expensive side but not too extortionate. The service was a little slower than I'd like, especially as it wasn't particularly busy.
The restaurant itself is very clean, and managed well with front of house team being diligent.
There is a gluten free menu and well, as vegan and vegetarian.
There's plenty of parking space too, and even the outside is kept clean and inviting.
I'd definitely recommend this particular restaurant to everyone.
N.
Really good food fast service lovely staff it was really nice and I loved it. Heard it from a guy called Mac master on YouTube and I decided to tell my parents and they loved it and it reminded them of fish and chips from when they were younger I 100% recommend the toilets were also really clean and nice it was just hard to walk to them! And the lift was bad and I almost got stuck in it but still good!
C. G.
Excellent fish and chips. Good portions and good value for money.
Tartare sauce is very nice.
Great to see dandelion and burdock on the drinks menu.
Good range of options for those who don't enjoy fish.
Specials board always offering an interesting option.
D. R.
What a fabulous traditional fish and chip shop and restaurant, which also boasts a takeaway and car park to the rear. Spaces for disabled parking and wheelchair friendly. I was on business when I called into the takeaway, great staff and my order was ready in minutes. Definitely will return to try the restaurant.
G. T.
Went here for some tea and it was delicious! It was really quiet so got seated and served really quickly. The portion size was very good and well worth the money. The restaurant had lovely decor and was very clean. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend 😄
J. R.
Really enjoyed our meal. Prices are a little steep, but worth it, best fish and chips ever had and nice relaxed resteraunt with friendly service. 😊
B. M.
Food really nice. Seated quickly, food came quickly... not much more you can ask for.
Prices not bad either (£10 for Cod and Chips)
Kids meals are food value too at £4.95.
S. S.
Very nice fish and chips definitely recommend we ate in was a bit cold inside but was worth it for the lovely food
O. C.
Lots of parking and a lovely spacious building. Great service and good quality food. Excellent gluten free options including fish, chips and batter. Great tasting food. Toilets are also well presented and very clean. Will be visiting again
G. N.
Great place for fish and chips. A real plateful and soooo tasty. Go everytime we are visiting family
j. B.
Lovely fish & chips, fresh & hot served quickly & nice to have àn alcoholic beverage too xx
P. V. (.
It's lovely food if it was only served warm. My fish and chips were luke warm. The restaurant is also cold with the airconditioning, therefore if you don't eat quick enough the food is actually cold within a few minutes. Not just the food but I was very cold and shivering by time I left the restaurant. Didn't enjoy it this time I'm afraid. Some advice bring a jacket or cardigan if you go!
N. S.
Food and service was excellent, professional, but I must say that I was cold in the restaurant. It was relatively warm outside so went in a t-shirt and light jacket and I was cold. My mum was also cold, we both kept our jackets on. I probably wouldn't go again because I was uncomfortable with the cold and that is a shame as everything else was excellent.
My husband took his mum there a few weeks earlier and when I got home I asked him if the restaurant was cold when he attended, he said that it was. He commented that the food and staff were excellent, but he would probably not take his mum back with it being too cold inside.
Sorry.

First time visit to Whitby fish restaurant” and it was fantastic from start to finish, seated quickly and service from that point onwards was excellent. Taya our waitress was so friendly and a lovely personality.
All the staff were on the ball doing there job and a credit to the business.
I find a lot of bad service nowadays but Whitby fish restaurant is spot on how customer service should be..
Keep up the good work and have recommended to family & friends..

It’s easy to see why there were people queuing out the door when I visited early in a Friday evening.
Service was great, there were plenty of staff on, and my order was ready in no time.
These are top notch fish and chips. Perhaps not the cheapest but you are getting tasty food and generous portions.
r. w.
Great fish and chips, both take away and dine in, we used the take away the staff were helpful and friendly and well organised. It wasn't busy but it was just before Sunday dinner. The food was really good, the batter on the fish was light and not swimming in fat and the chips were great, portion sizes were good and there was plenty of parking, would use again
D.
Fantastic food!!
Fantastic staff!!
Best fish n chips I've had in a long time.
Great varied menu, great location, free car park, no need to go to Whitby.
J. L.
Friendly staff. They seem to have a good system going one person taking orders, next seems to be preparing boxes and putting food in, next checking orders, putting boxes in bags and handing out to customers.
The food is spot on. Batter light and crispy. Food hot. (Despite my best efforts of calling in at Heron to buy some dog food and breadcakes).
Dropped a star because of noise, me and the order lady couldn't hear each other and had to keep repeating ourselves. Which resulted in my order being slightly wrong, but it was only couple of potato scallops. Oh and they had run out of bread cakes hence my trip to Heron.
Bottom line is I had 2 x 2 potato scallops and 3 mushy pea fritters for £5.70. (And £1 for 4 bread cakes from Heron) Which fed 3 if us. I don't think £3.30 per head (1 adult, 2 kids) is bad for a hot meal for tea 👍👍👍
No pictures. Food inhaled!
C. W.
Excellent. Staff are efficient and friendly, food is always excellent and it’s always very clean. Lost one star because it’s often quite cold, but we’ve now figured out which tables aren’t blasted by the air con, so happy days! 😁
N. B.
Always good. Portions massive. It's a bit expensive but it's nice.
M. U.
Fish average, nothing special.
Unseasoned, no salt no pepper. Possibly kitchen staff have been sentenced to work there.
Chips average. Soft both inside and outside. Refresher how to cook chips might help.
Y. A.
Excellent batter on fish, very tasty chips. King prawns were somewhat disappointing (small and bland). Tuna steak was overcooked but overall a great authentic experience
T. P.
Cod, chip, peas, scraps, bread & butter & a cup of tea. Great British food. All served excellent and the staff really very, very good & courteous. Would highly recommend to anyone. 4 dining.
c. c.
Very busy this place but we got a seat straight away which was nice. The good here is good but cannot compare to the cod scollops but it is still good especially the dessert for kids. My favourite was the prawn Cocktails and the buttered bread that comes with. Excellent service from the big guy even they were busy running around they still provide excellent service.
G. L.
Went here yesterday after an afternoon at the races , as a fish and chip shop owner I can be judgmental…… this was the best I’ve had ( apart from our own lol ) service was fantastic from friendly staff, food was cooked to perfection, presented well ….. and very well priced at the current situation with stock prices .
Will certainly be back on my next visit to the races
G. K.
After many years overseas there is nothing like UK Fish n Chips. Whitbys service and quality of food was outstanding. The Curry sauce even better.
B. E.
Good food. Fast, friendly service. One of the few restaurants I visit regularly both their Catcliffe and Doncaster restaurants and know I will never be disappointed.
L. P.
Lovely meal. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. clean restaurant. Quite busy. Eat in and taleaway available. Will definitely return
R. W.
Splendid, as ever. The best possible use for a former fire station. Excellent fish and chips, pleasant staff, nice atmosphere.
A. P.
Been a while since we last visited here. Forgot how good the food was. Great meal, friendly staff & vfm
P. S.
Omg, this place was amazing. We both had the regular haddock, chips, mushy peas and bread and butter. Although one fish was ordered without skin - you don't often get that choice as my Mrs doesn't like the fish skin. Anyway, both meals were first class for taste.
The service was fast and courteous and this was a Saturday late afternoon visit to the inside restaurant. We also opted for the apple crumble and custard - we have never tasted such beautiful crumble before. This was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last.
L. B.
Absolutely fantastic Fish & Chips restaurant - went here with a group and we all had great experiences. My grandmother is celiac, so the option of Gluten-free batter as well as pretty much all of the items on the menu was a real bonus.
Staff were all friendly, helpful and brought the food very quickly.
Prices were very reasonable considering the quality of the food - will definitely visit here again.
M. J.
Took son and grandkids for a meal. Everything was spot on, and the staff were great. Food excellent.
S. G.
Lovely fish and chips. Good size portions and really nice atmosphere
P. S.
Food excellent as usual staff always happy and very helpful always very clean and tidy. Keep the good work up.
C. D.
Meal out with family, never been before. Food and service were excellent, we all enjoyed ourselves, hope to visit again soon.
g.
The BEST cod I have ever had! Crispy, buttery, tasty, DELICIOUS! Well done!
D. h.
Fish and chips at its finest. Amazing sticky toffee pudding you have got to try it! Service was excellent. 👍
Update : second visit, equally as impressive as first time, food and service consistently great!
A. E.
Tradition style fish & chip restaurant, very close to Doncaster race course.
Nice food, and better prices than food at the race course.
Plenty of car parking spaces too, and you can also get takeaway fish & chips.
Something for everybody,a good selection of starters and puddings.
They do have some healthy options, and you can get glutton free batter.
The place is also licensed,so you can get beer with your meal.
Overall not a bad dinning experience,it's like being at the seaside.
s. l.
Always decent food, reasonable prices (we use the takeaway) not a long wait for the food from ordering.
A. A.
Really clean and smart interior to this converted fire station. Staff were friendly and professional, and quick service of food order.
The menu offers a good choice at a reasonable price, which represents good value. As well as the traditional fish and chips, other fish dishes are available, such as Swordfish. A really ejoyable meal.
K. K.
Food is out this world but the staff member (lady) that served us needs lessons in customer service she was rude and very unpleasant. Also you need to think about your wayout system as customers are having to use one door to enter and exit and when there's a queue of people waiting to enter it makes it very hard to exit.oh and make sure you ask for salt and vinegar as its in a high security safe behind the counter and has more value than saffron per gram
k.
Called in Saturday tea time and was seated straight away, waitress gave us a few minutes to look at menu then took our order, food arrived very quickly and was up to the usual standards. Never had a bad experience here
e. h.
Being A doncaster lad originally, returning home for a visit with my Grandchildren we thought we try out Whitbys for the first time and so glad we did. We got Great food, great service all at reasonable prices. I will definitely visit again and recommend to my family and friends
R. S.
Fantastic food decent service and good menu choice
p. h.
Fantastic fish and chips with lots of options for the fish eg battered, poached etc. Batter really light. V good value. Well worth a visit!
g. n.
The best fish and chips ever!! Large portions of fish skin on or off. Very very clean tidy restaurant great service highly reccomend by me .We go there every time we visit Yorkshire and that's once a month
J. L.
Made to feel welcome soon as you walk through door. Ordered 2 lots of cod and chips. No complaints, really nice.
A. D.
You will struggle to find a better place for fish & chips than here.
Absolute quality and excellent service.
A resounding 10/10.
M. T.
I had the gluton free battered cod which was amazing, so crispy and tasty, BUT the chips were pale and limp and not particularly nice. Because of the chips not sure I would go back.
C. A. T.
Wonderful food, grilled prawns delicious. Great staff, lovely surroundings.
Will be going back
S. S.
Great place to eat. Fish is large and very tasty. Even disabled can eat here they have a lift to the toilet upstairs
A. L.
Absolutely brilliant we had steak pie new potatoes mushy peas and gravy spotlessly clean place highly recommended.
B. E.
Fantastic service, great for and best gluten free fish and chips we've had
L. N.
Fabulous food. Great service. What more can I say
d. s.
This is a very pleasant comfortable and spacious restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. My husband ordered small haddock and I had small cod but they were very generous small portions. Everything was piping hot, the batter was light and crispy, the fish was so fresh, and the chips were perfect. It's been a long time since we had fish and chips that were so good. We will definitely be back.
O. L.
Amazing food and really good quality! The gluten free options here are brilliant and of the exact same quality you would find regular options.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
You can sit in or takeaway so it's perfect for whatever you're feeling.
Great atmosphere here and great food, what more can you ask for?
D. B.
On a short visit to Doncaster and we called twice, all I can say is that the fish, sausages and chips are excellent. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. We didn't use the restaurant we just had a couple of takeaways. Generous portions and very tasty.
D. S.
Finally got around to having takeaway fish and chips from here. Nicely boxed up. The fish and chips were pretty good and came with plastic forks, sachets of vinegar and salt.
J. M.
Haddock chips & peas beautiful. Friendly staff at at a reasonable price . Highly recommended
R. S.
Slightly above average takeaway fish and chips. I find eating inside the restaurant better in terms of quality and flavour.
I do often find the staff in the takeaway rather disgruntled and fed up. They aren’t always so chatty.
A. P.
Very nice meal but the pregnant waitress had a sense of humour bypass. Made a couple of jokes ordering food then refused to bring food to us and sent someone else not good customer service when we spent over ninety pounds didn’t once ask if food ok.
m. s.
Really good place for fish and chips excellent food good staff friendly service ok
F.
Excellent food, the restaurant is in a converted Fire Station so it is very loud when busy. A little pricey though!!!
R. R.
Lovely chips, just what was needed, not five star as one if the chips was raw. Would go again though, like tobsit in next time when we are allowed.
j. t.
Best fish n chip experience ever. Great, piping hot, fresh cooked, beautiful fish, chunky chips and fresh mushy peas, washed down with a beer, what more do you need ?
Always warm and friendly atmosphere, great staff and reasonable price. Can't fault it. If you've not tried it........youre missing out !!!
A. H.
Great Fish and Chips restaurant. I had regular haddock chips and peas and they were fantastic. A little on the pricey side but if cost is an issue they do takeaway for much less. Highly recommend
M. B.
Great place to eat. American diner style. Quick and courteous service.
D.
Awesome food, awesome helpful cheery staff
J. V.
Theodore loves visiting here and loves the brass bird too
w. L.
Only chose this for the gluten free options Very expensive for what is no better quality than I ate on the Isle of for cheaper.
R. S.
Food was amazing and service was perfect,
Cant wait for my next visit.
E. B.
The fish was awesome! The chips though...omg, I want to bathe in them. Then when it's time for me to die, I want to be buried in them! Yeah, they're that good!!!
C. T.
It's a busy restaurant so we had a small wait to be seated, but it was worth it 👍🏼 Superb Fish & Chips and great service 🍽⭐ Highly recommended!
G. C.
Love this place fish always cooked to perfection generous portions and a reasonable price. Eat in or takeaway available
C. S.
Excellent food, service even better!
Will definitely be back
J. S.
Beautiful fish and chips and trifle. Not greasey. Could taste the sherry in the trifle
T. M. (.
Not a 'Fish and chips' fan personally but I have tried their signature battered fish there over a couple of times, the quality was different each time. Either the fish was dry or not a right taste. Here's the helpful advice given to y'all, avoid the takeout on Friday and the weekends.
D. _.
Its a beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere and the staff are brilliant. The food is good which is harder and harder to find in a fish and chip restaurant. My only gripe is that I had very nicely asked for the grease to be wiped off my fish as it messes with my body and it just didn't seem to compute. Either way I'm giving this place 3 out of 5 I would've done 3.5 but you can't on here
D. R.
Friendly staff. Quick serve. Reasonable prices( up to today)
D. h.
Great chippy food excellent, well worth the visit will definitely return next time I'm working in the area.
S. K.
The fish and chips were ok, nothing special. The price of accompaniments i.e. drinks, gravy, peas etc were way over priced!!!
C. R.
Excellent service and quality. Fair price.
Really enjoyed the meal.
J. R.
The food was nice and well praised by the group I was with (for an 85th birthday), I found myself a little disappointed to see that there was only one vegan starter, main, and dessert. Though I understand this restraunt isn't catering to a vegan crowd, a choice of a handful of options would have been nice.
s. g.
Good place to eat nice fish and chips you get Same experiences other branches but bigger portions somehow highly recommend
R. W.
This is my absolute favourite place to go for fish and chips, always delicious and I think the prices are pretty good. Love the different batter options on the fish and the rice pudding is just the best!
m. g.
Good portion size, gluten free option for food but strange they only do semi skimmed milk, not soya, almond etc
D. I.
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and the best fish and chips in the area!
R. D.
Really nice meals you will not be leaving hungry
D. A.
Nice food friendly staff but probably the most expensive fish and chips resuturant iv been too,
The staff are great and can't do enough for you very efficient service
E.
Amazing! They do gluten free battered fish and sausages! It's so hard to find any chippie in the south which does gluten free items so this was a very welcome surprise after being at the reptile show all day. They cook the GF fresh so you do have to wait a bit longer than usual however it is worth it.
f.
Firstly it's situated in a beautiful ,old art deco style building (used to be a fire station) with high ceilings and very spacious.
The staff very very friendly and helpful, and the delicious fish and chips were keenly priced (the batter was sensational, really crispy and we all agreed the best we have tasted in a long time).
Toilet were spotless ,the whole building sparkling clean
Totally recommended 5/5.
H. a. K.
Cooked in beef dripping, probably the best fish and chips i have tested, until tomorrow when I go back again!
V. a. A. H.
Lovely fish and chip restaurant. Staff so lovely and good price
G. M.
Fabulous traditional fish and chips restaurant in a wonderful old fire station building, beautiful and immaculately clean.

Very busy but managed to seat 2 of us. Good choice on menu. Haddock and chips were delicious. Nice white fish and a sensible portion.
M. M.
Lovely food and staff. Recommended
P. W.
Although we hadn't booked we was shown a table quickly and service was very good. Our fish and chips were very nice and fresh. Really enjoyed highly recommended
R. M. G.
Best choice of well cooked fish in South Yorkshire.
D. R. D. B.
I had better and worse, this being somewhere in the middle but regular fish and chips rather expensive at 11.95 and mushy peas 1.70
O. M.
Simply the best fish and chips I've tasted in 45 years. The quality and consistency of the food and service is unmatched.
The people of Doncaster are well and truly spoiled.
G. P.
Wow. This place takes a fish n chip supper to another level. Great food delivered quickly in a really pleasant and friendly surroundings. Also not bad value as 4 of us ate and drank all we could manage inc a bottle of wine and desserts the bill was £80. Highly recommended.
S. A.
This was my first visit and I'd heard good things about the place. I have to say I was a little bit disappointed. The fish and chips were nice enough but left a greasy aftertaste. If you want good fish and chips, try Sea Fish in Conisbrough. They are a better price too!
S. N.
Best fish and chips in Donny if not a little expensive
A. A.
Visited the restaurant yesterday We both had the cod chips and mushy peas Really nice freshly cooked Will definitely visit again
S.
The best for gluten free fish & chips! They're absolutely delicious, it tastes exactly the same as not GF, cannot recommend enough.. they were super busy but squeezed us in last minute :)
j. m.
Nice relaxing atmosphere. Great fish and chips
S. B.
Excellent fish and chips. Great service. Will be going back for definite.
D. C.
Very nice cod and chips ,excellent service from lovely staff !
J. D.
Great food! Very busy though, which meant waiting for a table and no option to book other than a group
I. T.
I ordered for the workplace over the phone for pickup today. Quite a complex order split into two payments and pickup times. I was kind of dreading it but the lady handled it all very professionally and well mannered. Took payment over the phone and both orders were ready when we arrived at the times we asked. Very nice service and first experience in the end. Great fish and chips too. 👍
G. G.
Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Fascinating use of the old fire station.
Fish dominates the menu, although other things available, including vegetarian options.
M. H.
Excellent although the curry is like a chinese style which I like but others might not
A. M.
Fantastic meal, mid afternoon.
Would be happy to go again and again.
J. R.
Lovely restaurant very well managed with civid restrictions. Food was delicious (especially the lemon pud) will be returning
r. t.
Really enjoyed the haddock and chips.
M. Y.
Called there for tea with my son before going to the fireworks at the racecourse. So glad we did aswell. Servive and food were excellent and a lot better value than wot was offer at the racecourse. Will definitely be calling again !
E. E.
Lovely friendly place. Reserved a table for eleven. Service and food excellent. First time I've been, but will definitely return .
D. C.
Good fish and chips. Good service too.
T. F.
The place is amazing the staff are brilliant, the food is beautiful
B. Y.
Excellent choice on menu. This is not just a plain old run of the mill Fish & Chip shop. Very clean throughout. Waiter service. They can accommodate groups (within Covid rules). They are fully accessible & even have downstairs disabled toilets. Great experience
R. K.
Absolutely fantastic, recently moved to the area and needed a fish & chip restaurant that provided gluten free meals for hubby. The girl who greeted and seated us, and also took final payment could not have been more friendly or welcoming. Our waiter was polite, friendly and efficient. The food was fresh, well cooked and plentiful. Too many chips for me but that's only my personal opinion. Great atmosphere too, we will be back.
A. C.
TLDR; Decent price, quality fish and chips.
Visited take-away on a Saturday evening. Reasonably busy but wasn't queueing for too long. Price is rather competitive with other local chippies, maybe a tad more. Food also turned up pretty quickly and was delicious, except the gravy which loses a star. I'm sure everyone has their own tastes but it was super rich and dark this evening.
Covid: precautions are on point but the cashiers behind the counter struggle to hear what you're saying sometimes over the noise of the kitchen.
C. A.
Made the most of the 50% of. Friendly staff and tasty food.
E. S.
First time was a blast so decided to have a takeaway there again. We ordered two fish and a shared chips with additional paid ketchup. It was average, not as great as the first time, not fresh and a little greasy. The main issue this time was the ketchup that we paid for was completely off, the color and the taste were totally different from the brand Heinz, taste was more like plum than normal ketchup. Please play it fair if you charge your customers for the ketchup.
n. d.
As I have ceoliac disease its great to be able to go out for a meal and know it's gluten free. Fantastic fish and chips nothing a problem Anna stag very friendly and welcoming
C. W.
Great friendly service and food was quick to come. Fish and chips was tasty not greasy at all. Lovely peas and gravy sides too.
R. M.
Went to Whitby’s on 26/12/2019 to the restaurant part. Did not book, just turned up. Greeted with a friendly staff member who took our name and explained that there was a ten minute wait. Not a problem as we had a drink and chat between ourselves. We were show to our table in under ten minutes so all good. We all (party of four) ordered fish and chips with peas and tea, the taste of the fish was excellent, the chips just right and the peas spot on. Tea was good too. The waiter staff were excellent and polite. The food came after five minutes of ordering. The prices were spot on. Overall I would say these were the best fish and chips I have had. Will go back without hesitation.
D. B.
Been today for dinner. Very surprised how busy it was for a monday dinner. The gf prawns for starters was absolutely beautiful. It shouldve come with ciabatta but obvs i cant have that. It would have topped it right off with some gf bread but even without it was delicious. I then had gf haddock and chips. Wow. The batter on the fish was amazing!!! So crispy!!! Even with lemon squirted on it stayed nice and crisp. Staff were friendly and helpful. Def be returning again. Thanku for a lovely experience
m. b.
Had cod and mushy peas. Shared chips with hubby. Quantity was just spot on. The quality was excellent. Little on the expensive side but I don't mind that if the quality is good. It was that meaty fish you expect, not that wet fish that you know has been frozen. And the batter, I tend to leave a lot of batter due to the soggyness. Is that a word. But I just couldn't resist eating the lot, do crispy but not too much, just enough to compliment the cod. We did eat them in the car park too. Smelled so good with the sachet of salt and vinegar on. Highly recommended but like I said bit pricey. But for quality well worth it. The staff very welcoming and polite. Thank you Whitby's.stay safe Will be coming again.
S. B.
My very first visit.. Defo won't be the last. WOW everyone is so friendly. Haddock & chips yummy . I had knickerbocker glory.. not had 1 for years. Was a real treat . Thankyou n well done . The building is an old fire station .. :) I'll definately be back with more friends x
P. N.
Decent portion but the batter tasted of overused oil.
M. C.
Slightly disappointed on this trip as brought family with us as we had been thrilled with a previous visit 2 years ago, the fish was cooked ok, slightly on the dry side, but after getting the takeaway back to the hotel, we found that the order was wrong, ordered 2 cod and 2 haddock, but found we ended up with 3 cod and only 1 haddock! So put up with it as not practical to take it all back from the hotel, but will probably not be returning or recommending.
G. P.
Great quick service. Food was great and generous portions
A. P.
Really good quality but the fish keeps getting smaller
L. D.
Although not very chunky as far a cod goes, was very well cooked and service was exceptionally quick!
S. W.
I had the whitby cod and chips which was wonderfully crispy, husband had pie, chips and homemade mushy peas, he said they were just like his mum used to make. Will definitely go again when we are back up from Kent.
S. B.
Good food friendly service not cheap
Y. W.
Very tasty but a pit pricey for fish and chips
C. S.
Having eaten in and Take away for almost a year. I consulted the menu for the first time to find that everything fried is done so in Beef Dripping. My own fault for not asking or assuming chips would be vegetarian I guess. I was told by staff that if someone comes in that ‘looks’ like they wouldn’t appreciate the cooking methods then they do inform them. Not sure which part disappointed me the most but as a pescatarian, needless to say I won’t be returning.
They do have a lasagne or curry option available for vegetarians but if I wanted lasagne or curry, I’d go somewhere that specialises in those dishes.
C. W.
Very expensive £11.95 for fish and chips, half the price up the road and twice as nice.
N. J.
Excellent haddock and chips, prompt service, highly recommend.
G. G.
Always enjoy Whitby's (old fire station). Great food. Reasonably priced. Licensed bar.
L. P.
Beautiful fish and chip restaurant and take out! The staff are lovely. The service is always nice and prompt. Loads of parking and easy to get to.
J. H.
Bright and clean premises. Choice of battered, floured, poached fish, skin on or off, cooked in beef dripping.
C. A.
The best of the sea
Never have I tasted such beautiful fish cooked as you want. They have 4 options fried, poached, breaded, and sorry can't remember the other one!!
We shared a starter of calamari which was delicious.
Then had cod and chips and home made coleslaw😋 lovely.
Staff very attentive service second to none. Would I go back? Try and stop me!!
Fabulous 😁😁
P. C.
First visit last night. Very good food. Well presented. Reasonable prices. Very good system for takeaway service. Very pleasant staff. Recommended.
A. F.
Super meals staff very attentive even though they were very busy .much better than last time we went.will definitely go again
S. B.
Great Fish & Chips and good friendly service.
L. C.
The grilled king prawn were beautiful and the fish is always lovely. The staff were very helpful and great with my two little one.
k. m.
Absolutely loved it food was great, brilliant hospitality, they let us put a birthday cake In the cold store and brought it back out singing Happy birthday to surprise the birthday guest, then brought us a knife and plates to eat the cake with, will definitely be going back again 😀 xx
D. O.
Best cod I have had in years
J. A.
Best Fish & Chips in Doncaster, no one comes close. Whether its takeaway or eating in I have never had a bad experience.
P. M.
Best Fish and Chips I have had for a long time.
P. L.
Fantastic lunch to celebrate our 54th Wedding Anniversary. Highly recommend a visit, but don't order the large portion if you want a pudding!!!
K. /.
My favourite fish and chips. The restaurant is modern, yet with a traditional atmosphere, the service is usually swift, and always friendly. The fish is always delicious, with a light and crispy batter, the chips nice and chunky - true chip shop style. The portion sizes are also generous.
Since the lockdown I've used the takeaway section, which is well organised to help everyone stay safe. The quality of the food and service are of the same excellence I'm used to from the restaurant.
C. C.
Yesterday was the 4th time that I ordered a take away. The food had never disappointed me but yesterday the cod wasn’t soft and fresh, it was chewy (probably frozen) and the batter soaked of oil...
just wondering if you changed something...
S. J.
Food always lovely and fresh. They do really good healthier options e.g. poached fish with salad. Salads are really nice too and plenty of it. Love how they cut it all up small too 😃. Their sticky toffee pudding! Yum! Nice friendly staff. In the current climate, felt very covid safe.
P. A.
Had cod, chips and mushy peas. Excellent. One can request gluten free. No problem .
The restaurant was full when we went at 5pm , so a very good sign of how popular it is . Chose the small portion instead of regular and that was certainly big enough for me. Very good selection of sea food, which can be followed with a large ice cream sundae ,if desired.
B.
Had nice evening meal on Good Friday. And the staff as always very helpful and friendly.
J. F.
Best fish and chips around south Yorkshire you need to have in Barnsley or junction 36 area
P. K.
Usually very busy, but for a bank holiday very quiet. Limited menu, was served quickly and politely. Toilets clean
Ideal place for quick and tasty fish and chips.
J. D.
The best fish & chips anywhere, great service from all the staff in the restaurant and the takeaway!
a. s.
Awesome food and great service. The waiting staff are attentive and efficient. One criticism is the paying of your food bill. It's brought to your table but then you need to go up to a counter to pay. This wasn't explained so we sat around for fifteen minutes for no reason waiting for someone to take a payment. Otherwise, really good.
L. A. S.
Great night, a party of 20 of us went. Excellent service and really good that you can choose how you would like your fish serving also gluten free options. I ordered the prawn salad as I had already been out for Christmas lunch. It was a very generous salad with absolutely loads of prawns. Thoroughly recommended this place.
S. C.
Quality is good and prices are reasonable portion size is excellent especially if it's a lunch i had battered sausage and chips it was nice that you weren't over loaded with chips. The only complaint is they are insisting you wear a mask to order BUT the counter staff are NOT wearing one.
P. G.
Very well marked social distancing. Only 1 customer at a time allowed in the shop to place the order - you then wait outside for a member of staff to call your name and place your order bagged up into a raised delivery box. Beautiful fish and chips - the best ever!!!! This is the first meal I havent prepared and cooked since January
D. d. G.
Had the King Prawns tonight for a change & they were delicious. My husband really enjoyed his cod & chips.
D. S.
Great classic fish and chip restraunt. Good value and friendly staff.
V. N.
Excellent restaurant. The service was swift, the food fresh and well cooked; the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly too. The cost was competitive and the atmosphere generated was very pleasant. Ok, my diet took a nose dive but I really enjoyed every calorie. Highly recommended.
N. R.
Always perfect and always served with a smile. Love this place ❤️
D. B.
I visited this amazing building on Monday with friends from Manchester x the service was very friendly and helpful and the food was so worth the journey x will definitely visit again
C. B.
Very busy Friday night visit but was seated without fuss. Speedy and efficient service with the lovely staff. Sophie was particularly friendly and attentive. Food was marvelous. Only mum fancied a pineapple fritter but not on the menu. Maybe next time. A big thumbs up.
H. L.
Always go to whitby, best chip shop in the area, usually just go to the takeaway, which is fantastic and loads of options and variety. Staff always friendly and helpful and knowledge of gluten free and avoiding cross contamination is second to none. On this occasion went to the restaurant and whilst we were extremely happy with the food and service initially, it took a long time to get the table cleared and for someone to give us the bill. When the bill arrived we were waiting a further 10 minutes to pay as no one came over to the till despite a few staff walking past. Would used the takeaway again, but not as sure on the restaurant.
C. R.
Fish and chips are always good from Whitbys but the wait for takeaway food is too long .. definitely not fast food .. Whitbys you need to get organised and speed up your service
K. H.
Top fish and chip restaurant , good food , great service . Highly recommended.
j. b.
Nice meal, served quickly and efficiently. Decently priced, and decent selection of fishy mains, and ( nonfishy) desserts.
H. H.
Good fish and chips although can get busy at times. Most of the food is average however the gravy is some of the best I've ever tasted. It's made with real meat pieces and is well worth the extra price.
S. M.
Went to Whitby's today for the first time and it was absolutely brilliant, couldn't fault it at all. Lovely food, excellent waiter, very clean and pleasant surroundings. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.
J. B.
Delicious haddock chips and peas today. I always have the floured option which is lighter than batter but still yummy. Service was efficient and friendly. Great value for money. Specials board which changes regularly. Easy parking on site. Highly recommended.
K. H.
Amazing, best fish and chips in donny. Takeaway is awesome, restaurant is like a diner and it's brilliant. If you come to donny, eat here even if its just once
J. M.
Food was lovely but attitude of all but one of the serving staff let the restaurant down. To be asked "do you want anything else" by a waiter rushing past just as I was finishing my main course was a bit off putting. The first waitress kept pulling her mask away from her face. I sympathise that she was uncomfortable but not good practice
F. B.
Very lovely very delicious meal and I really enjoyed it a lot Whitbys One vary greatest Fish and Chip Restaurant 😊 ❤
S. A.
Gluten free battered Haddock was lovely. The building used to be a fire station and the restaurant area has vaulted ceilings where the extension has been built. In fact the central area has a floating ceiling. The restaurant itself was busy. Food was served quickly and we didn't have to wait ages for the bill. Great for families of any size.
P. S.
Unbelievable meal, I had the steak pie and chips, was the best I've had in years, staff good, was a great experience
c. b.
Lovely pie and chips. Takeaway was quick. Good value for money.
E. R.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! my first ever visit to this restaurant and I'll be sure to recommend it to everyone I know. The food is absolutely incredible, the fish is so flaky and delicious and their home made tartar sauce is unreal!
B. W.
The only place to go for a sit-down fish and chip dinner in Doncaster. The fish meat is as white as they come, and the chips are delicious without being overly greasy. You won't find nicer serving staff anywhere else, either. They're always welcoming, cheerful, and quick to respond when you inevitably want more mayo.
O. G.
Great fish and chips.
D. M.
Highly recommended.
Ate here for the first time and left pleasantly surprised. Fish and chips isn't the most delectable delicacy and eating them in a restaurant hardly the height of nouvelle cuisine. However, I really enjoyed eating here.
The food was really good, the staff pleasant and helpful and it was all very efficient. Whilst the location of the toilets is a bit of a trek, the interior was all very nicely done, if a little bright.
My only minor grip would be serving ridiculously hot food for the smallest of children.
We will be back though, even if it's just to use the takeaway kiosk.
r. r.
Very nice, not bad price enjoyed it.
K. P.
Prawn salad sticky toffee pudding it was so good
D. B.
What more can i say, a wonderful experience as always. 😋
C. A.
Absolutely delicious 'proper' fish and chips. Nicest meal we have had for a while. Really reasonable, good service. Sticky Toffee Pudding was a-maze-zing!
C. C.
The batter on the fish melted in my mouth, just beautiful food, mushy peas were good no hard bits, definitely visit again
L. C.
So pleased to be back in our favourite Fish & Chip Restaurant. Travelled from South Wales today booked a table and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Great friendly staff. Keep up the great job you do.
M. G.
Had the home baked fish pie with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Have to say it was absolutely beautiful!!! Could not fault it. The fish was tasty, the mashed potatoes nice and smooth, and all in all very filling, would HIGHLY recommend!!!
C. p.
Superb fish and chips. Popped in after the St. Leger races today. Although busy, we were shown to a table as soon as we walked in. Very clean, waitress served us after just a couple of minutes, our meal was served piping hot in around 5 minutes. Can not fault it in anyway. Note your table number is on the table leg base, just a little thing we overlooked.
K. B.
Fantastic as always ,fish and chips was excellent. We usually eat in but since that is not an option right now then take away it is but it is definitely not second best the same great quality and service as in the restaurant .....
J. B.
Been a few times now. Fabulous fish and chips. Cooked however you'd prefer, fried in batter, lightly floured, grilled etc. Can choose to have salad also if you are trying to be good. The salads are very good and filling, not just a couple of bits of lettice and cucumber on a plate. The building is bright and airy (former fire station) and spotlessly clean. Just writing this review is making me want to go back.
We aren't local but will always go to Whitby's if we're ever in that neck of the woods.
K. C.
Very good and very quick service. Was seated on arrival of booking, service was brilliant. Friendly staff and they all were wearing facemasks correctly too. Food was delicious as always. Thank you.
D. S.
Never disappointed friendly staff excellent food
a. m.
Absolutely beautiful food and friendly staff quite funny how majority of the staff don't eat fish lol. The portions are incredibly big! The tomato and red onion soup starter was beautiful the white bait was nice but portion was way to big for a starter. The small fish and chips was cooked perfectly the batter and fish just falls to bits and melts in the mouth. Flavour all round was great. The only reason I marked it down was the salad wasn't as clean as it could have been on the starter as it was so fresh it had soil on the lettuce lol :-).
Well worth the money if you love fish try this place
T. S.
Always a good plate of cod and chips with mushy peas on the side. Quick service and good portions. Generous pot of tea. A big hit with the family consisting of three generations. Will be back to enjoy Whitby 's great fish and chips soon !! Please visit if you've never been.
R. G.
Had the steak pie this time it was lovely, have had fish and scampi before which is always great.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Restaurant is covid safe.
Would recommemd
S. F.
Visiting friends and this was my first visit. Heard great things about this place and was NOT disappointed. Generous portions of succulent fish and chips to die for. Friendly staff courteous and polite despite being very busy. Good pricing as well. Will definitely go there again 5 stars!
P. M.
The best fish and chips in the area, can't fault any of the meals, been a number of times, never disappointed, excellent
L. A.
Went for tea with the Kids and had a very pleasant experience. All the staff that we encountered were friendly and courteous. The food was excellent and we will definitely be returning. Puddings we had were home made and you could tell. Worth a visit.
A. J.
During the Covid 19 restrictions, I was very timid about visiting a restaurant. Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant were very compliant with current regulations. I was very much at ease and enjoyed a thoroughly nice meal with my family. Top marks for everything.
G. C.
Absolutely amazing Fish & Chips. Being from Ireland I can say that we Irish can do many things properly, but making batter isn't one of them. These guys know how to do it the best!!! Always have a great feed here at Whitby's. Never disappointed 👍🏼
G. C.
Great quality food, best chips I've had for a long time
Loved the home made Fishcakes
Definitely will be back for another takeaway
M.
We went as a party of five, the service was good and friendly, the food was good and not too excessive. The room is quite bright and it makes a nice change from the quite dark pub meal venues we usually go to. There is plenty of parking behind the building and it was easy to find.
D. B.
Great food not just fish and chips and nice staff
Good service 👍
T.
Good food, bit expensive. Some staff members rude. Ask simple questions such as (is the salt and vinegar in sachets?) Get a weird non-answer type response. Will go elsewhere in future just for the service. Service sector acting like they don't want to be at work. They are also very OTT with the covid distancing.
P. T.
First time at this establishment and it was excellent, service quick and courteous. Very good fish and chips at sensible prices. Nice to have the toilets a long way up, makes you feel like you have worked off some of your dinner.
R. M.
Been visiting Whitby's for years. Our favourite place for fish and chips. Never fails to deliver. Fast and friendly waiter service if you choose to dine in the restaurant. And gluten free is required
J. P.
Gluten free food was good service was good and quick delivery.
M. E.
Some of the best fish and chips I have ever tried. Everytime we come down to Doncaster we go. We have even been twice in one day. If only they made onion rings, it would be Perfect
C. C.
Absolutely amazing great place food beautiful, staff friendly and welcoming we all really enjoyed eating in the restaurant could not fault anything,, will definitely return 😀
A. C.
Lovely big pieces of haddock, freshly fried and without the skin as the choice is yours to have with or without the skin. More importantly though they do gluten free versions of fish and chips and don't charge extra for this service. Quite simply brilliant.
S. M.
Fantastic place, and nicely positioned at the old fire station opposite Doncaster racecourse. Portion sizes are very generous, with some quality non-seafood selections being on the menu. The staff are always pleasant and friendly.
C. C.
Located in an beautiful ex fire station building. The decor is modern but unique with wall art not of the typical styling you'd expect in a fish and chip restaurant. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the whole restaurant was very clean and minimalistic.
We were taken to our table with a choice of tables of booths, we had a booth with high walls creating a more personal dining experience but they were not the comfiest although this didn't matter massively as we weren't in there for a considerable amount of time.
On first glance of the menu I was happy with the minimal choices and it was not overwhelming to look at as some menu's can be, and there were a few other additions that you wouldn't typically see such as salt and pepper calamari but unfortunately I didn't have the appetite for a starter.
It was great to see a restaurant in its class offering options on items for people with dietary needs i.e. gluten free batter but the menu lacked dairy free desserts although I've learned to live with this being the norm at most places. Inclusions of such dessert choices would give them another distinguishing reason for customers to dine here over the abundance of fisheries across the UK.
We had our order taken with drinks arriving promptly, very shortly followed by our food. I imagined the short wait was aided by the connected takeaway fish and chips that feeds the restaurant also.
Our drink order of two full sugar cokes were not great and tasted as though the syrup had ran out, when we raised this to our server he made a comment that they wouldn't be that dark if that was the case and made no effort to apologise but did replace with lemonades at our request although these were only marginally better.
The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips reminded of something my grandfather would have cooked up when I was a child (real hearty) but less greasy.
We ordered 'home made mushy peas' which were tasty but I wouldn't justify the cost at £1.25 for a pot as Aldi's canned mushy peas are equally tasty at 29p a can. We had curry also which again very tasty but tasted like the powdered mayflower that you can buy for £1 a tub in B&M, but delicious nonetheless.
My partner and his grandparent ordered a coffee and dessert each. I can't personally comment on either as I can't consume either goods but the coffees smelt great, were accompanied with a Biscoff each and they both polished them off quickly alongside the fudge cake and ice cream respectively. Both complimented the desserts as tasty and appropriately sized.
Prices are not something to be excited about at roughly £9-£10 for a regular meal, as you can pick up food much cheaper at your typical chain restaurant but the quality speaks for itself and justifies the cost. I wouldn't choose to pay these prices in the takeout for your typical Friday chippy tea but I can't clarify the prices are the same.
Overall I was very pleased with the visit minus the feeling of inconveniencing the server with the drinks but would visit again in the future.
M. C.
Best fish and chips I've ever had. Will definitely go again if ever I'm in the area. Whitby's need to be nationwide!
c. j.
The very best fish and chips I've had in many years ! Highly recommended
D. T.
We go to Witbys fish and chip restaurant quite regularly and the service and food is first class. The fish pie is exceptionally good and well worth a try if you visit. Having said that the fish and chips are equally appetising coupled with the scampi and chips with a mixed salad.
You will not be disappointed
M. H.
Great service and pleasant atmosphere.
J. E.
Awesome fish n chips, order prior if you don't like a wait. Could do with heaters outside as you order in then wait outside and its drafty! They are worth it though!
J. C.
Food was great, obviously we had fish and chips. Very attentive staff, clean and not a bad price for a restaurant. Would definitely go back again.
N. M.
We go over to Whitbys whenever we can..its always exellent food, and great service, and consistent plus pretty affordable too.The staff are always smart amd friendly and get you a table with no bother ....Dont go to Doncaster without going to Whitbys! Cheers to all.
k. o.
Delicious fish and chips, service was excellent
E. C.
Good food, super staff, nice location. Plenty of parking without a doubt (use the lot next to it if crowded). Had the fish-n-chips and the fish cake special. everything was hot and fresh. It tasted good too! Not terribly expensive.
S. C.
Really lovely place to eat, the fish and chips were great, not greasy at all, the service was fast and the staff were very welcoming. Plenty of parking and an easily accessible entrance. Prices are very reasonable as are the portions.
K. D.
Lovely fish & chips, you probably pay a touch more than your average local chippy but you also get better quality and it's usually freshly cooked while you wait. Plus it has the added bonus, for me anyway, of accepting card payments
L. S.
Delicious!! Always enjoy it here, the gluten free batter is lovely and the staff are always nice and friendly. Good quality food at good prices and a great brew to go with your fish and chips 👍
D. C.
Great fish and chips cooked very well. Good service and at a reasonable price, the menu is large enough to suit almost every taste. Good range of drinks too.
M. B.
Pre-ordered and collected at the given time to avoid the queues. The good was great, not greasy as other chippyss can be. The order was correct also, something other shops cannot get correct.
N. K.
When I have visitors from outside Doncaster iie Isle of Wight, London, Oxford, Manchester etc I take them to Whitby's. I am always, always confident they will enjoy an excellent meal and efficient, charming service. It has a good range fish choice with other alternative main meal dishes. All kinds of drinks on request. Returning visitors always ask me if I have booked a table at Whitby's.
M. “. P.
Absolutely lovely chippy. Probably the best chippy in Doncaster
B. T.
Spot on fish and chips friendly staff well cleaned tables very pleased we both enjoyed the quality meal
S. H.
First class service from our waitress Jenny and excellent customer service stands out from the rest lovely lady the food was outstanding as usual can't wait to return
M. D.
The best fish and chips I've had for a very long time and I'm from Grimsby..... greeted at the door by lovely staff . It's nicely decorated and very bright, but most of all fantastic fresh cooked haddock and chips to order very hot and very fresh it gets 10/10
C.
Amazing food as always, the gravy was quiet thick in texture but something the fiancé could live with. Be careful on drinks I ordered a ginger beer and thought I was getting least a half pint glass but it came in a tumbler glass! Maybe it was me who didn’t read the description properly! All in all 5 stars guys!
A. W. (.
Great choice for coeliacs or those who eat gluten-free by choice. Battered fish, sausage (battered or not), scampi and chips are all available gluten-free. The staff are friendly and the service is pretty quick even though there's always a wait for GF as they fry to order. Big car park and a large restaurant attached if you don't want to take-out. Only thing missing are outdoor seats like they have at their sister shop in Catcliffe.
R. K.
Always first class service here. Customer since opening. Staff great
R. P.
Their situation iis excellent! Great parking and nice waitress service ,BUT two days ago called in the takeaway section for small tray of chips (£1:50) but was large queue of people waiting for fish, l Only wanted chips, Sorry went elsewere.
But wïll try to get served if there again.
Since that visit need twice with my wife, we ate at table inside.great fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding with custard, lovely.
D. N.
Great service if a little amusing it's all a bit chaotic. Chips lovely. Fish really nice crisp and nice flakey fish. I tried the fish cake and my Mrs had the steak pie (I know who does that at the fish shop)
My fishcake was dry and very small. I was expecting a battered potato cake with fish inside l. Bit it was a breadcrumb fiskcake. Quite bland and tasteless.
The steak pie was nice yet there was only two pieces of beef. Bad luck I imagine at the pie looked and tased really good.
The lesson is at the fish and chip shop stick with fish and chips. 👌👍 Definitely worth a visit
C. C.
We love Whitbys! Been taking our granddaughter since she was tiny, her favourite place to eat too, high praise from a 5 year old.
S. A.
I have been to both Doncaster and Rotherham restaurants and for value fish and chips, you can't beat it. Very wheelchair friendly too. Could do with turning down the air conditioning - in December. It was a bit chilly! Will go back many times.
z.
This place serves simply the best fish and chips I have ever had at prices that make me wonder how they stay in business. The service is fast, friendly and very accommodating. Exceptional stuff.
R. A.
Only ever had take away but it's always been very nice chips, decent portion size & taste great.
j. b.
I travelled home to Doncaster from living and working in New York and have been craving Fish and Chips for years
Whitby's did not disappoint. Lightly battered cod, perfectly fried chips, Yorkshire Tea and white bread and butter. The atmosphere was fantastic, full of great Northern folks chatting away about the weather, Coronation Street and the football. The service was Yorkshire hospitality at its best, warm, friendly and efficient. My server Sophie was excellent. WHITBY'S you did not disappointed and your Fish and Chips were worth the air fare alone......Looking forward to my next visit.
M. J.
Food was lovely. The staff was nice and friendly
R. B.
Excellent cod & chips and a decent pot of tea with an extra pot of hot water - quite a rarity these days. Their mushy peas and tartare sauce are very good. Lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I. W.
Went with some friends for a pre Christmas get together meal.. Fish (Haddock) was beautifully cooked and cannot fault the meal, although the only festive dishes on offer were for dessert, either a mincemeat Crumble slice or a Christmas pudding sponge cake.
Also, I was just disappointed there was nothing festive done to the tables..
m. t.
Stopped of here for some fish and chips on the way back from Doncaster airport. The fish and chips were very good combined a lovely pot of tea. The building used to be the old fire station and has been converted to a very high standard. The staff though could have been more attentive.
M. M.
Excellent fish and chips, friendly service, comfortable atmosphere
M. W.
Best fish and chips by a country mile! Great service, fantastic staff and lovely meal....Will definitely be returning soon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
S. C.
Best place in the area for fish and chips, they are absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Tables for the restaurant can be pre booked or you can just turn up, there is a pop in takeaway section if you're on the go and there is limited onsite parking. The staff are very welcoming and attentive and add to the overall, excellent experience. Well worth a visit...my 91 year old mother loves the place.
B. W.
Nice food, fast and efficient service
A. B.
Great food excellent service good value for money
A. S.
What a fantastic place good old traditional fish & chips mushy pea's. Apple crumble & custard that excited your taste Bud's. Staff polite and professional take my hat off to you all. Thank you all at Whitby's 10/10

Excellent Food, Exellent Service
Visited here after picking up my mum from a day at Doncaster races. Whitby's is a fabulously modern, clean and welcoming restaurant. On arrival we were meet by Sophie whom was very nice, polite and welcoming. Sophie found us a table straight away and after being seated for only 2mins Katy introduced herself as our assistant and took our food order she was very knowledgeable, friendly & welcoming and assisted us perfectly during our visit. Our food arrived promptly after placing order and was extremely well presented and I must say personally I think the fish and chips I consumed here were among the best I've ever tasted if not the best. I recommend Whitbys 100% and would give rating of 10/10 for food and for customer service. A massive thankyou ti Katy for making our visit so enjoyable it was lovely to meet you.1
T. G.
The Fish is fresh ', Well presented ' and good flavour/Texture'..Tho the Range of sea food is basic' maybe more varieties would be more beneficial'.. especially from our Waters!👍🏼
D. M.
Always fresh and extremely tasty fish and chips. Prices are reasonable and the takeaway service is quick and efficient.
The restaurant is a nice place to eat however it gets busy.
J. C.
Great for meal with mum and sister. £47 for drinks, fish chips peas f me. Mum and sister both had steamed or poached fish with new taties and garden peas. I had yummy apple crumble and custard, mum had sundae that she enjoyed. I fine in electric wheelchair, good ground floor toilet, parking good, fairly quiet 5 ish Monday 15th April busier later. Great staff. Would go again.
A. B.
Loved it as always, great service and standards are amazing and the Food is exceptional.
D. R.
This was our first visit since lockdown eased. There were all the right protocols in place the staff were very efficient but friendly as well.We felt completely safe in the restaurant tables were really well spaced and customers were all acting sensibly. The fish and chips were as good as always. I would thoroughly recommend Whitbys
P. S.
Fabulous👍 fish chips & mushy peas pot of tea can't beat it definitely 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐service & staff were great too👏👏
A. M.
Always freshly cooked. The portions are ample, the taste is great. Quick service and friendly staff.
B. I.
Restaurant was to cold and food not hot. This is the second time I've been recently and both times its been the same. They've gone downhill since reopening. Not a comfortable experience so I won't be going back again for a while.
T. S.
Situated in the old Firestation in Doncaster opposite the race course. The resturant has a light & airy interior with seating nicely spaced out. The waiting staff were very friendly despite being very busy. Basically its a stylish fish & chip restaurant with a nice simple menu. We had cod & chips, haddock & chips and steak pie with new potatoes. The food was very tasty and served after a short wait. Very reasonable prices & good service.
There is also a seperate take away next door. Definitely worth a visit

Fish and chips but such good quality - Whitby"s is not just your average fish and chip shop. There is a take away section but hidden around the back. The fish is always freshly cooked to order, chips hot and cooked as chip shop chips should be. The surroundings in the restaurant are bright and clean- looks nothing like your average chip shop.

Food is always great here but the experience as slightly deteriorated.
We went yeasterday for my birthday. 4 adults 4 children.
We had not booked and so were met by a frowning waiter and frowning barman. Told it would be a 30 minute wait in the delivery style of 'do not stay'. Pleasantly the wait was just 3 minutes and not 30.
Food ordered and delivered and very tasty. Children did not like the fancy garlic childrens menu chicken nuggets but thats kids!
Then our experience deteriorated....
Dirty plates on our table for 40 minutes while we tried to get someone to take pur order for desserts. I ended up at the counter to be told they would be tgere in a couple if minutes. 15 minutes later in reality.

Good value beautiful fish, chips and peas very hot when served staff very friendly and very quick service restaurant very clean well distanced table's nothing to fault at all. Thanyou

Excellent fish n chips

We dined here yesterday.
The cod was good. But the haddock was SENSATIONAL...and I speak as someone who lives in Grimsby...so I know good haddock.
The three scoops of ice cream were also sublime.
But one thing let you down. The soup course.
Not the tomato and red onion soup itself, but the pitiful cheap and stale finger roll served with it.
Puh-lease...do not insult us.
A good soup like that needs a real (heated) bread roll, and a small ramekin of proper butter...not the ubiquitous sachet ...that one associates with a cheap bed and breakfast.
Come on ...get your act together. You are not a cheap f&c restaurant, so do not act like one.

Sometimes tradition is all that's needed! When life is stressful theres nothing better than a plate of beautifully cooked fish and chips! However, that's not all Whitbys sell..if you fancy curry or a home made fish pie you wont be disappointed. Friday night is super busy but people move quickly do you never wait long if you havent booked. Highly recommended!

perfect meal and service after a very busy model railway exibition at the racecourse. thank you

Had the small cod, chips & mushy peas today at 12.45, it was busy but we got a choice of table & didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive which was delicious. Can't fault Whitby's, probably the best f&c's in Doncaster, nice staff, lovely place & good service.

Cracking food, good place to sit
J. W.
Excellent food and service in a relaxed environment. Would definitely go again.
W. T.
Delicious food . Good service. Kept clean. Staff friendly
J. M.
Great service ..14 of us for 80th birthday..

The food was good as usual for whitby's but I think the staff could us a little training. I'm sure they will get better in time
P. A.
Great fish and chips place, good size portions and reasonably priced
S. W.
Always a favourite to visit a Whitbys whenever we see one.
Doncaster is a large place with plenty of seating. Don't know if it was just the day but found the staff a little less attentive than other Whitbys but food still came in good time when order was taken.
Great quality food and will be back again at some point
L. M.
Amazing fish and chips. I am gluten free and these are definitely the best gluten free fish and chips I've ever had. They also offer gluten free vinegar which not many places do.

Having been here several tomes and giving great reviews sadly when I went with grandaughter today we found we were seated where once we got our food it got cold so quickly I think due to air con. Then I went to pay and two young female staff were too engrossed in their own conversation that the tip it was about to give was almost withdrawn . Good food but shame about rest.might go elsewhere in future..

Really good fish and chips just like the seaside. Loads of space in restaurant. Helpful staff team
D. T.
Driving past we are isolating from Covid-19 so won't be visiting soon. Having said that it looked very inviting and notice the restaurant, along with the takeaway section, is open for business. Get yourself in if you are in a position to.
A. C.
Very good , never really get a bad experience at this restaurant, food and service very good, not too expensive.
R. M.
Cod chips and peas. Best ive had for a long time, definitely worth a visit
M. K.
One of the best fish and chips in South Yorkshire. Batter is crunchy, not soaking in grease, portions are huge. We visit this restaurant frequently, enjoying every time.
P. D.
I Happened to be attending a show at the race course, went to Whitbys purely by chance ,made a great discovery,I will be back
A. O.
Fish and chips is just fish and chips isnt it? Well at Whitby's the batter is light and crisp, you can get tea and bread and butter, so just like Friday teatime when you were a kid .. overall very good indeed and somehow the price isn't too much more than your average takeaway. Oh and mysterious things ...tell me about the beautiful carved stone chairs in your entrance , what's their history?
P. L.
Pleasant atmosphere.
Food very good.
Service good.
Price competitive and reasonable
M. W.
Great fish and chip and fantastically friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit.
S. L.
Enjoyable Fish and Chips, cooked to a high standard and take social distancing very seriously, keep up the good work,👍
S. W.
This place is fantastic, no matter how busy the food is quick and tastes absolutely amazing. They can accommodate big groups, there was 7 of us that went. Staff are very polite. You have to visit here if your visiting Doncaster.

Used to be lovely but seems to have gone down hill a bit, chips weren't hot, sloppy fish, staff more interesting in chatting to each other than serving and seemed as though there was a thousand places they'd rather be, didn't even ask how our meal was. Shame really it's a lovely place and used to be so nice with fantastic staff
D. C.
The service is fantastic with helpful and pleasant staff. You'll be seated and served in no time at all and the fish and chips are tasty. Highly recommended .
D.
Again the food was lovely and fresh, always a table free when you haven't booked. Staff friendly and attentive to all our needs. until the next time Whitby's
B. E.
Fantastic, friendly service every time I've been. Food is always fresh and the gluten free food is delicious 😋
j. h.
Excellent restaurant, excellent fish and chips, and most importantly for me, gluten free.
J. J.
Delicious fish and chips, some of the best in Doncaster. Only criticism is lack of vegan options.
R. F.
What a lovely place to eat. The fish and chips were fantastic and good value. Can be a long wait at busy times I would think.
M. J.
First time going. Was lovely. So glad they had gluten free options don't often get fish and chips. But well worth it
S. B.
Disappointed fish was a big let down to myself and my wife ,normally the fish is really nice and meaty but ours was really thin more like a scrag end .As a treat for my wife who fancied fish and chips for her birthday but really let down
M. K.
Great fish and chips never had bad service or sub standard food
L. A.
Seated quickly. Order taken and food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Fish and chips were really tasting. The restaurant is in the former fire station so is light and airy.
d. m.
Good old fashion no nonsense English chippy.
M. J.
Top fish and chip shop. Got pie and large chips and am still eating them now over a month after ordering them due to their massive size. Honestly couldnt close the lid on the box. Beware the large chips ha ha.
D. T.
Had takeaway cod and chips. Very nice. Place was empty but the guy insisted on taking my name for order then shouted out my name as if it was busy... Bit awkward if I'm honest but the battered sausage more than compensated for this.
J. D.
Best fish in Doncaster. Good service. Spacious dining room. Large car park
D. C.
Always high quality fish and chips
O. I.
What a lovely restaurant excellent service and the fish & chips was the best I've had for 2 years since moving from Scarborough. We will be back see you all soon.

J. B.
Attentive staff. Nice food. Great building.
A. E.
Excellent meal. The haddock is superb and the batter was cooked to perfection. Fantastic service and great prices. Well done WHITBY'S.
S. B.
Nice food, fast and efficient staff
s. s.
Been a few times know gorgeous food and the staff exceptional
T. D.
Best tasting fish and chips around, I would of given 5 stars but portion sizes seemed to have got smaller a lately for the take out side when your paying nearly 14 pounds for 2 x fish chips and curry 😡 come on whitbys sort it out 🤔
K. R.
Lovely fish and chips
I. S.
Very nice food but a shame that everything is extra when constructing a decent meal. Only go if you really fancy fish and chips, don't go for value for money.
M. L.
Excellent food. We were in Brixham last week and none of the three fish and chip restaurants we visited there, including one in the top 10 UK establishments, beat Whitby's for quality.
D. B.
I have terrible food allergies and at last I can eat out for the first time in years. They are very strict with the preparation and cooking of gluten and wheat free meals. I just can't thank them enough. Plus an excellent service, thank you so much.
S. L.
The only fish and chip place that serves gluten free, including gf vinegar! Delicious food, very friendly staff in the restaurant and takeaway, extremely helpful 😁 Highly recommend!
B. m.
Good fish 🐟 and chips 🍟
C. D.
Had fish & chips takeaway after long day at hospital. Thoroughly enjoyed, was like I remember as a kid 😊
C.
Very good. Cooked fresh and well organised for queuing during covid. Could do with some benches to eat on outside. Enjoyed the meal in the car though
H. D.
Nice restaurant with traditional fish and chips. Busy at peak times and we felt a little rushed, but the quality and prices were good. Quick service and good food! Generous portions.
R. L.
Really nice service and friendly staff pity the portions of a large cod and chips was more like standard
P. S.
Excellent. I go at least twice a week. I live alone so don't like necessarily eating alone all the time. The staff are professional but helpful and friendly.
B. A.
Utterly scrumptious food. Very friendly staff. Spotless. Sure to visit again. Best fish & chips I've ever tasted.
C. G.
Very well structured with regards to Covid The food wasn't the best i have had but was fair in taste A bit pricy as well
N. F.
One of the best fish and chip restaurants /takeaways I've been to. Staff always friendly, food consistently high quality. Plenty of parking available.
G. S.
Sumptuous, scrumptious fish & chips, eat in or take away.
We used the sit down restaurant and we're blown away by the service and gnosh!
If you do nothing else in Doncaster, you must enjoy this gem!
D. M.
The best fish and chips in Yorkshire. Great value and you can choose whether to eat in or takeaway. Plenty of free car parking spaces.
A. D.
Lovely fresh fish and chips. Crispy batter, soft in the middle chips, crisped to the touch on the outside. Busy but staff were very attentive.
T. M.
Very nice fish and chips very polite and well organised in social distancing spot on.
C. A.
Amazing fish and chips. Friendly quick service.
S. W.
Fantastic tasting gluten free fish and chips. My 2 year old Son's favourite gluten free place!
c. b.
Only take away at the moment, the staff are handling the situation very efficiently making it very safe to to visit. The food is of the usual high quality, very well cooked.
