It was so delicious Turkish food. I could not expect that the lamb could be so delicious. But here, you can enjoy very yummy foods. One disadvantage of this fabulous food is that it is too popular. So I wait in the restaurant for over 1hour. It was such a starving time. So if you want to join these delicious foods, it is better to have a reservation. And it is better to see the picture of menus on the internet if you don't know about them precisely.

My favourite Turkish restaurant in Newcastle and Durham! I came with friends, we ordered chicken, lamb and meatballs with cheese inside (or something similar). All very lovely. Nice service, good quality of foods. Highly recommended! Will come back soon. *they offer 10% student discount, student card needed.

Lamb was good (juicy and soft), chicken wings were average (dry). Chips were not tasty… Order grilled lunch for two ppl. The price is relatively high because of the limited food amount offered. Plus, no student discount anymore…

Utterly fantastic. Dined here yesterday evening with my girlfriend. Went for the hot meze starter and ‘mixed meat sharer’ type dish for our main. The food was unbelievable. I love Turkish food and often seek it out when in a new city but this was the best I’ve had. Huge portion of perfectly spiced and expertly cooked food. Great Turkish house red to wash it down too. Friendly, attentive staff. Terrific value too. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

A small, family run restaurant in the centre of Durham. Wow! The food was fantastic. The menu choice is great, the ingredients were quality and the flavours amazing. Portions were very generous too. The staff were lovely. I think that the price was fair for the standard of meal. This was our first visit and we can't wait to go back. The only downside is that if you have mobility issues, the stairs could be an issue.

Turned up here on a Sunday night, having never tried Turkish cuisine before (other than the odd Donner kebab). Great choice of hot and cold starters and mains on the menu. Starters were generally £5 to £8. Mains between £10 and £16 mostly. Food arrived promptly and was well presented and very flavoursome. Didn't try dessert as we were stuffed! Would definitely go again!

Authentic food, we took advantage of the lunchtime offer. Two starters each and a main course of meatballs and a moussaka were filling and great quality. We enjoyed the Turkish decorations and the couple running the restaurant were friendly and happy to talk. On the 1st & 2nd floors of what must be a 17th century shop, worth tracking down.

Visited Akarsu for the first time one lazy summer Sunday afternoon. Didn’t want a ‘full on’ meal so opted for a starter and a wrap for mains. I have eaten quite a lot of Turkish food both home and abroad and I have to say Akarsu was up there with the very best. Really tasty with just the right amount of seasoning and spices. Beautifully cooked and nicely presented with pleasant, attentive service. Will definitely call in again.

Bread and hot dishes/platters were very good. The cold meze platter was a bit heavy on the yogurt and Hummus, perhaps could have done with one more solid item on it. It's a nice cosy place. Went there just after 6pm and thought it was quiet. By 7 pm the place was full, every table taken. After a quick chat with a waiter I decided to order ali nazik kuzu with rice and a glass of red yakut kavaklidere. For my dessert I ordered baklava. Amazing food. Really tasty and reasonably priced. We booked a table for 6.30 and when we got there were told we'd have to vacate the table at 8 which we weren't told when booking or we wouldn't have taken it so beware.

Friendly staff. Good value. The restaurant itself is a little tired but it was clean and the food delivered exactly what was expected...and in decent portions. You won't go home hungry or feeling cheated financially. Meze: Sucuk - as expected; Kalamar - slightly disappointed; Chicken Wings - very good, wish we had ordered more; Spicy Potatoes - spicy in a good way; Prawn Guvec - good. Mains: Prizola - huge portion, looked good; Karisik Shish - decent portion, looked good; Falafel - good big portion but a bit beige...I found myself looking for something to cut through and ended up stealing the tomato sauce (not ketchup) from my child's Prizola...and still hoping it had a bit more heat in it. I would definitely go again...but would stick more closely to the charcoal grilled options when choosing from the menu.

There was only one small problem, which wasn't down to the restaurant, more to do with the hot weather, which was flies coming through an open window. They were annoying enough for us to have to move tables. Maybe invest in aircon?

Went here on Sat night during Lumiere - glad we booked in advance. Amazing food and really good service, apologised a couple of times that the table we were made to wait 4 mins before the table was ready. Wasn't an issue at all, but good they're looking after their customers and not just leaving them there waiting. The food was amazing and really tasty - great portions and very reasonably priced, we all came away full and wanting to go back again. Would recommend the Pirzola, incredible flavours.

Me, my partner and my brother went to eat here because I have already been once, so what can I say....here goes, the food was out of this world amazing, the food was cooked perfect and when I went to go and see the kitchen I found that it was beautifully clean and the air smelt amazing, we all shared apart of our food to try everything we had ordered and we was amazed to find that we liked everything, The staff: the staff there was amazing they check on us a few times to make sure we was happy and when our drinks was low the refilled them right away, my partner didn’t know what drink to get for after meal and the recommended a very large hot drinks menu! It was so good to eat there and I have a million more reasons to go back not to mention for the food you get it is amazingly priced! I will be going back and bring more people with me! One of the most Amazing Turkish restaurants I've been to. Staff are attentive and very friendly. I had the Iskander Kuzu (also known as Lamb Alexander) which was one of my favorite dishes from all Turkish cuisine and it was the best I've ever had. It is a slow cooked lamb dish in a traditionally spiced tomato sauce served with chunks of fresh Turkish bread in the sauce (that absorbs all the awesome flavors) with yogurt on the side to dip it all into. Prices are not cheap, £15 for a main course but you pay for what you get, the quality of food is excellent as is the presentation and taste and there is plenty of it. We also had a bottle of house wine (£15) which was very pleasant, i did feel the other wines were over priced however since they were specially imported i'm more than willing to forgive that due to the sheer quality of the food! There is a good selection of beers and a small set aside bar that specialises in Gin as well as an area for larger parties on the top floor. My only criticism is the lack of disabled access due to the restaurant being up the stairs over the 2nd and 3rd floor of a listed building in central Durham. This however is hardly their fault, but should be taken into account if you are visiting with those who are mobility impaired.

This place is a treat! The waiters are very nice and the service is at a correct speed. The food here is very high quality and extremely tasty. They have several authentic Turkish options that range from traditional meze to kebab options or other dishes. We had the iskender kazu and Ali Nazik kazu; and both options were extremely good and filling. Their desert options are excellent too with the kazandibi being our favourite. The food here is expensive but the food is amazing and worth it.

Excellent Turkish restaurant. We chose the hot mezze platter to start followed by grilled lamb and chicken with a tomato sauce which was enough for the 3 of us. The only minor criticism was that the hummus was rather bland but otherwise well worth a visit.
