Fantastic food in a great atmosphere. A wide Italian menu, with a full range of pizza, pasta and main courses of chicken, steak or fish. Amazing desserts if you have any space left! Recommended!

Amazing Italian food - authentic and truly delicious. Portions were quite generous too. Ordered the Spaghetti Vongole from the specials menu - was not disappointed! Would definitely be returning again for more good food. The authentic Italian desserts that they have on offer were amazing too - ask to see the dessert menu!

Great food generous portions and they’ll even sort you out with cocktails not on the menu! This really impressed me and their Negroni os fantastic. Had deep fried mozzarella to start and then a pepperoni pizza. Both were lovely and the pepperoni was lovely and spicey a real treat. The service is great! I can thorough recommend this restaurant

Despite Durham being really busy & even though we hadn't made a reservation, they were able to seat the 3 of us straight away in quiet part of the restaurant. Service was friendly & pretty quick considering how busy it was. We opted for 3 different pasta dishes from the main menu & they were all delicious & very filling. A lovely dining experience. I would strongly recommend.

Tasty enough, but pretty standard; no disappointments, however nothing blew us away. Staff are really pleasant and accommodating. Drinks are good for wine, but other stuff is lacking - can't get a negroni, for example. Overall a decent experience, and no big criticisms - stick to the dinner deal for a good value meal. You can get tastier stuff at other Italian places in the region.

The food was amazing! They have really good service and everything was delicious! We ordered two starters, one of them had haggis and the other one cheese, both incredible tasty. For the main we choose chicken. Even with dessert and two drinks we spend around £50 which is reasonable price. I fully recommend this place!

The starters were delicious. The mushroom starter was less creamy than I'd expected, but that was good, because it was light like a starter should be. The scallops with chorizo were delicious too! The mains were delicious too. The ribye steak with chips was very nice, cooked medium-well, big portion, it was great with stilton sauce. The salmon was delicious too, cooked very well! It came with rice or chips, I chose rice. For dessert we had tiramisu and lemon pie ("Nonna"), delicious! Especially the lemon pie, it felt homemade! Would have preferred more relaxing music to go along with the relaxing ambience of the restaurant, but was cost-effective for great quality food, definitely worth visiting. Would recommend

Was here with 12 friends and we had lovely food, service and intimate atmosphere. Chose from the special menu. Very reasonable price, food tasty and sufficient. Waiters very polite and not intrusive, nothing a bother for them. We come here annually as a group but also as smaller groups throughout the year. Definitely recommend it.

Dined in on the first day that restrictions were eased. Very delicious food. Wow, what a find. A hidden gem. Dropped son off at Uni and thought we'd try this local restaurant. The menu is very reasonable and such a wide choice too. They even had a board with specials on, with a huge choice. Tried their 3 course set menu for only £10:95, and wow, what a bargain. Tried their house red too at only £15.95 and it was also delicious. Very attentive staff and such a lovely atmosphere with candles on the tables. I can't wait to go back ... just wish it was my local restaurant.

I ordered a food delivery from this restaurant a few days ago. Good taste, lovely seasoning, nice sauce, probably one of the best pasta in Durham.The only problem is the freshness of fish, which actually affects the food in a quite negative way. Excellent food at affordable prices. We came across this restaurant during our trip to Durham. It was a Friday night and the place looked very busy, so we didn't think we had much of a chance getting a seat without a booking, however they managed to accommodate us. The staff were kind and it felt like we were being hosted by an Italian family with home cooked authentic food. The house wine was delicious and very affordable, as was the food. I had the seafood spaghetti and it had a very generous serving of fish through it. The garlic bread was one of the best I've ever eaten. This is one of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten at, I just wished that we lived locally so we could go again.

What a wonderful little find. So authentic, my partner and I wanted a proper Italian meal, turned off by the busy city centre with Italian chains we were over the moon to find this little restaurant with only 5? Tables we knew the food was to be good. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and attentive. The decor and ambience made you feel as if you were in Italy itself and wasn't distasteful or mocking. Now, the food was superb and came in good time the wine selection was well and complemented the food. If we come back to Durham again we sure will be stopping here again!

First time we have visited here - we actually found it by accident tonight and I'm so glad we did! Absolutely amazing food and the staff are super friendly too. ( not over the top either and the kind who you can tell actually love doing their job! ) The venue itself is really cosy. Everything very reasonably priced. Food was lovely unfortunately we had to wait at least half an hour for a table that had been pre-booked...and this was on a Tuesday evening.It appeared that we were not the only customers who had to wait for a table. Maybe it was due to an increase in demand after the post lockdown "eat out to help out offer. " Overall the food was delicious but the service wasn't the best on this occasion. One of our favourite haunts in Durham. The food is excellent, especially the seafood. The pizza is perfect and made the Italian way, pastas are chef's kiss, and the desserts are great - plus you can tell everything is fresh made, and arrives warm (takeaway). I don't know what else to say except if you're in Durham, buy from Bistro Italiano and you'll feel like you're in Italy (and I've lived in Rome).

The best fish restaurant in Durham. Traditional Italian with most of the staff from the Naples/Sorrento region, does your usual Italian stuff on the menu and fresh fish as specials. Go for the fish. Also has a good wine list. Gets busy on Friday/Saturday, so book ahead.
