Reviews of Bertie's Proper Fish & Chips
F. B.
The food was excellent, we got 3 fish and chips and 1 steak pie. The steak pie was OK but I should have went with the fish and chips as it was so much better. Atmosphere was good and service was good.
My reason for no 5 star was the discretionary service charge already added to our bill! This is not normal practice and if it wasn't for my wife paying the bill as part of a birthday weekend I would have asked this be removed. The customer should decide the tip!
N. W.
The breaded haddock fish and chips were marvelous, the battered haddock was equally as good. The fries were excellent. Ordered haggis for the first time as a spring roll; quite odd taste, but do as the Scots when visiting, aye! One thing though, the soda pop is definitely different than the states and the bread and butter was not so flattering. Will definitely come back to visit!!!
C. K.
The day was long and we wanted to grab something fast. The place was amazing! Really big space good decoration and staff ready to help! The fish we ordered was haddock and it was great. No wonder why they say that it’s the best in Edinburg.

The calamari is amazing, so fresh and delicious. I didn't have high hopes for the food as it is in a very touristy location but I was pleasantly surprised and had a very enjoyable meal. The fried aubergine was a nice vegan/vegetarian alternative.
R. L.
Very impressed with the service in this restaurant; our server was extremely friendly and cheerful.
Fish and chips was very good quality, but be warned that the portion size is huge! Perhaps a little too big for us, but each to their own. Deep fried Mars bar for desert had to be done of course!
Would certainly return.

I liked the place decoration. The food was good but not the best. Their fried Mars bar is different than any other place but I didn’t like it much tho.
The staff are friendly and helpful.

We were dubious at first because the place looked quite touristy but having read some of the reviews and craving a good fish and chips lunch we gave it a shot and we weren't disappointed. The fish was very fresh and absolutely delicious. Portions were generous and the tartar sauce and mushy peas (the latter you need to order separately) were great! One thing they could do is add black pepper to the table spices and sauces. They do have an enormous pepper mill they bring Italian style but that just makes it awkward if you like your food a bit more peppery asking an already super busy waitress to sweat over a pepper mill. Other than that it was some of the best fish and chips we've had, and the restaurant itself was very pleasant.

I’ve tried the fish pie, it was so good. But next time I’ll order it with vegetables instead of the fries because the pie is already covered with a thick layer of potato.
And if you want to order fish and chips, I recommend asking them to cook it in vegetable oil, not beef oil
M. P.
Wow one of best Fish & Chips I’ve tasted absolute brilliant food with outstanding customer service.
Very colourful food with nice atmosphere a Must…!! 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽
E. M.
My new go to fish and chips. Portions are large and the fish is some of the best I've had.
Cooked in beef dripping but you can specify the vegetable oil option when ordering. The tartare sauce is on point.
Kids meals are also large and come in a novelty beach bucket.
It's on Victoria Street (George IV bridge end) so parking is a pain. Chambers st is your best bet for metered parking.

Went with the family for a Chippy tea. It’s quite a reasonably impressive restaurant. With reasonably impressive prices, indicative of the city and area. All in though I found it all just a bit underwhelming. I chose to try their gluten free batter, not for any dietary needs but because on my visits to Mothertown in Stoke I actually thought their GF batter was way nicer. And I didn’t regret choosing the GF batter here. My chips were cooked in beef dripping and were both underwhelming and under cooked. Needed at least another minute in the fryer to get some kind of chip loveliness. They were just too pale and lifeless. I stole some chips from my Mum’s plate and they tasted nicer and had a different texture. My niece enjoyed her meal and ate it pretty quickly.
I followed it up with ice cream for me and the girls had apple crumble and custard. Both had different reactions. Amber didn’t quite enjoy hers due to the strong cinnamon hit. My ice cream was ok but absolutely not worth £6.
We all had a good afternoon out but it didn’t quite hit the value/experience matrix.

One of the better fish and chips in Scotland. Love the fish, was rather solid and well cooked. Chips could be better. Price is a little higher than normal.

Bertie’s offers a really nice venue upstairs and takeaway option downstairs for those on the go.
We enjoyed the fish and chips with some typical sides, including curry sauce and mushy peas. The fried sausage with beetroot relish was something I’d recommend.
Service and attention from staff also made the dining experience more enjoyable. Abundance of drink options, including beer and cider.

Wouldn't ever expect a proper restaurant dedicated to fish & chips, but here we go. Amazing vibes, quick service. However, keep in mind due to being a proper restaurant with waiters, seating, etc., expect to pay proper restaurant prices, e.g. ~£13 for the classic fish (haddock) & chips.
Taste is good and there is a big variety of options on the menu.
However I was very disappointed with the desserts. First off, there weren't many options, and the options were all ice cream based. We ordered the brownie sundae which turned out to be a bowl of vanilla ice cream with four or so brownie bites which seemed to be identical to the ones found in supermarkets. Overall I don't recommend the desserts, you're better off going to some nearby café.
R.
Amazing service! Our waiter was very kind and attentive, staff kept checking on us to see if everything was good and even helped us take photos. We got the battered haddock as recommended by our waiter and it was really good! Portions are large- tons of chips. The place was well-kept, clean, and stunning. Not the best fish and chips I’ve had but I’d definitely go back for the service!
P.
I've tried their fried mars bar. Actually I expected it to be bad but it wasn't!! I know fried mars bar idea sounds weird but you should try at least once in your life. Also, all staff were very friendly!
L. R.
Nice experience. Battereded haddock + fries is very fat and oily but that's the purpose of it after all. The fries are very thick and could be tastier.
F. F.
Really tasty and good fish and chips, big portion. The ice cream is nice.

Bertie’s is a great place to go and eat. The staff were amazing and the food is delicious. I recently went with my brother and my two daughters and we had a great time. I had a Haggis supper and it was really tasty. The only thing I would have liked to have seen (unless I missed it, which is possible with eating out with a 4 and 6 year old) on the menu is a Hamburger supper. A burger in batter deep fried is just the best thing you can have. Highly recommend Bertie’s and will definitely be back in the near future

Restaurant is located near Grassmarket, you can't really miss it as it has big bright sign outside. We booked for lunch and when you enter the restaurant they take your temperature and sanitise your hands before being seated. The venue decor is funky - nautical but modern. I chose the haddock with chips and it was delicious. The batter was crispy and cooked to perfection, the chips were tasty and came with tartar sauce. Portion sizes were good, we couldn't finish it. We also had the battered Mars bar because why not. This was better than I expected, not overly sweet or greasy. Definitely a dessert to share with someone so you feel less guilty about the calories. Would definitely recommend Berties
T. M.
OH MY COD!!
Absolutely fintastic staff and a brilliant plaice to eat. Would highly recommend so skate on by and enjoy the best chippy in Edinburgh.
A. (.
My family loved their fish and chips! Great vegan options as well, I had their vegan burger! Every dish we ordered was very filling and the fries were really good. The staff was absolutely lovely and the atmosphere is really friendly. Perfect for a family dinner
M.
Really good Fish & Chips, friendly staff and a nice and cosy atmosphere. Will definitely come again!
R. T.
Lovely food, decent prices for the quantity. We had cod and chips, and a scampi and chips. The batter was fresh, the chips could have been a little darker / crispier but they were still really tasty! Service was quick and friendly despite it being a Saturday night.
C. R.
The Mac&Cheese Crouquettes were amazing, but overpriced.
The Vegan Fish&Chips wasn't up to our expectations... the Eggplant they use as a fish-alternative gets very soggy and oily.
The chips were great, sauces were amazing, service was good at the start but sadly neglecting after we got our main dish.
The place is very well designed and the staff is nice (when they are around) ! I would still try to go again.
L. S.
I've ordered the vegan fish and chips, it was amazing!
My husband and parents in law ordered the breaded fish and chips, they were HUGE.
We didn't manage to finish the plates because they're really big.
The food is amazing and the staffs were so nice with us, so if you want to have a nice food in a comfy/clean place with an amazing staff, go to Bertie's!
Oh, we've tried the deep fried mash bar. DELICIOUS!
a. c.
Best fish and chips I have had in a long time, mushy peas were great too. Staff were lovely and attentive. I will be back soon.
d. s.
I don't know who served us, but she is very lovely. Based on our experience after having early dinner there, I can say is this is the best fish and chips I've ever tried. The place is cozy, the staffs are friendly, and it applies covid-19 safety protocol. Highly recommended place to eat!
N. W.
The best Haddock & Chips in Scotland we've had so far...Staff where helpful & nice.. my husband asked to be somewhere quiet because he can't hear too well so they did put us somewhere nice and quiet. Thanks for that.
We will Definitely be back here, absolutely gorgeous White thick flakes of fish and thick crunchy golden batter + really nice chips & curry sauce. Would have taken photos but forgot as soon as it arrived!!..sorry.

L. A.
So me being me and not paying any attention to the menu because I was hungry I accidentally ordered breaded not battered fish. It was still very enjoyable and my mum loved the fish cakes so we would go back again just this time I need to pay more attention to the menu insted of pointing to random items.
p. r.
Great food with excellent service ... book ahead as it gets very busy .. battered haddock and twice fried chips are excellent ... fish tacos are yummy
F. P.
One of the best Fish & Chips I had in quite a while.
The atmosphere inside is quite inviting and makes for a nice dinner.
Big groups best plan ahead and reserve ahead of time, while small groups should find a spot most of the time.
If you want to experience good, authentic Fish & Chips in Edinburgh - this is the place to go.
W. R.
Really nice building all around the streets in Edinburgh. This is the fish and chip shop with an attitude with a flavour that it's definitely worth taking on your list. Definitely worth going around, as you would many little picturesque gems around
A. M.
Yelp brought us here and we were not disappointed, great flavor, great attention.
A. W.
Lovely place to eat. Lots of options to choose from and veggie/vegan friendly. Cocktails took us by surprise considering it was a chippy restaurant! Really tasty and well priced. The beetroot ketchup is banging too. Staff were spot on and everything was clean and well maintained.
L. M.
If you love fish and chips then there is nowhere else to go! I had the Whitby scampi and I can honestly say it the best I’ve ever had. Other half had the steak burger and couldn’t finish it it was that filling. Atmosphere was great, service spot on. Definitely recommend.
E. F.
Amazing decoration, friendly staff and the best fried fish that I ever had! Chips aren't so crunchy, but it was ok.
M. S.
My rating is on the food, however some concerns. Read towards end of review.
I do enjoy my Fish and Chips and these were the best I've had in such along time. The fish was whiter than white (Cod) and the chips were perfect.
The Fish was battered lightly, crisp and complemented the fish perfectly. The size was ample and satisfying.
The chips double fried, were also amazing. First you get a very handsome portion of chips more than I could manage and these chips are amazing. They tastes traditional to me as in cooked in beef dripping but I can't confirm from the website. The taste was similar to a good old style chips cooked this way. Either way the best chips to complement the fish I've tastes in many years.
The picture of the fish and chips I've added doesn't really do the serving justice as the plate is huge so everything fits on it. It is a huge portion.
Tata Sauce great comes with your order, nice and good portion.
Mushy peas, great these are extra but enough to share between two or three.
The food 5 Stars
Would I recommend YES
Would I go again YES
My Concerns. .
The menu in the restaurant states discretionary 10% Service Charge.
(Sorry I don't agree with included service charge, ask me don't just include it. )
As its discretionary, we asked the waitress to remove the service charge. In our sitting this was £5. The bill was presented to us with the service charge included. Its was then explained that we could pay the sub total only which does not include the service charge. Even though the bill sates Total Bill with service charge added. All very strange.
Card Payment at your table also askes if you want to leave a tip as you pay your bill, which is fine if its going to your servers.
On our visit two of the three servers had problems with our basic questions. But we got there in the end.
My rating is for the food and overhaul cost. It was great food. I would have removed 2 stars because of the service charge but the food was "Propper Fish n Chips" and anyone reading my review is now aware of a service charge.
Remove the service charge, its seen as being deceitful. Your food is amazing don't leave a bad taste on the bill.
The online menu does not show the service charge at the time of writing this review, see images from restaurant.

Fantastic food! I must say that the customer service is totally outstanding. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked, optimum portion size and super crunchy. More than anything we enjoyed the customer service which was too grounded and helped us have a pleasant evening. Would recommend this place to all who wish to have proper fish and chips.
p.
It was good, the fish and chips were too oily and my throats still bad even though they said the oil doesnt affect much i did like the drinks, the fries were great too. AND 4.5 STARS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A HARRY STYLES PICTURE IN THEIR HALLWAY WITH A DOG WHILE EATING FRIES. KING BEHAVIOR.
A. G.
Fantastic service! It was my first meal in Scotland after 24th of travel, and I mistakenly ordered the fish without the chips. Since it was the end of the night they were really busy, but the host gave them to me for free when I ask to clarify! Was really delicious as well!
S. N.
I went here for the different options and the area, as I needed to eat something at 20:00 on a Monday evening after a long day walking. We were 2 people.
The place is big, light and clean. You wait at the entry, after going up some stairs and they sit you in a waiting area until there is a free table. In the meantime, we got some drinks and waited less than 10 minutes until we got our spot.
We were so lucky to have Natalia with us that night, who kindly answered to our questions and could recommend very delicious food. She was kind, patient and even came over to ask us if everything was to our liking.
Thank you all, but specially her, for making something else from our experience!:)
M. S.
Excellent quality fish, but note it's fried in beef fat...this adds an interesting flavor but pescatarians should know. The fries were on the pale side, i personally would have preferred them more golden. The slaw had a really interesting spice in it and added some veg that made me feel better about all the fish and chips!
J. H.
Hands down the best fish and chips we have ever eaten!!! We went to the borough market in London where they claimed to have the best wish and chips and Bertie's knocked the socks off of them. The Fried Haddock or Cod is the way to go, especially when you squeeze some lemon on it, it makes you want to stand up and go kiss the cook and shake their hand. The batter was a golden color of perfection as it gleamed off the plate I was drooling to take a bite as soon as it hit the table. It was definitely proper and I salute Bertie's for blessing my tastebuds.
P. C.
The fish and chips were fantastic. Try the onion rings and don’t miss the sticky toffee pudding!! Our waiter was excellent. We highly recommend and will be back.
N. S.
Great pub. Fantastic Fish n chips and delicious pint. Very friendly staff.
T. R. J.
Had a nice relaxing atmosphere. Food was good - the garlic mayo dip was amazing with the fish and chips (but it only came with the squid). Pricey but it was okay for the occasional treat.
M.
I had fish and chips here with battered haggis. I googled best fish and chips in Edinburgh and this place appeared. It was okay, I wouldn't call it the best. The battered hagis was very hot. I burned the top of my mouth. Be careful biting into that. The chips was bland, not battered. The battered fish was light 6/10 and tasted fresh. Drinks here are around £2.40+. Water is not free. Overall, an average experience. I prefer my local chippy than this restaurant. They charged an "optional" 10% commission fee when you ask for the check. They say you can refuse, but, I felt pressured into accepting the extra fee.

First time here on Saturday night.
Small portion of fish and chips. They were the best we have had anywhere. Tartare sauce was amazing
All washed down with rose wine then
Desserts. Sharing platter amongst the choices and first time for a fried Mars bar....brilliant
Staff here were one of the best. Thank you young lady with the dreadlocks. Your personality and level of service was exceptional
T. A.
Really Lovely food and very friendly pleasant staff. Much better than Harry Ramsden's down south, the restaurant is clean and spacious upstairs. Food wise the best steak pie and mash I've had out anywhere, I could have eaten it again. The Scampi was also beautifully fresh so I can only assume the fish in here would be terrific. Maybe next time I'm up here, certainly a place to remember!
A. A.
Excellent food, truly the best fish & chips we have ever had. And beyond the food the service was amazing thanks to Baddy. He pretty much runs the show with his energetic and diligent attitude, world class hospitality and just being an extremely nice person. The management and owner of this restaurant are lucky to have him.
A. D.
I can't fault this place. The staff were lovely. The deep fried Mars was a little posh and elaborate for my liking, but not going to downvote for that as personal preference. Didn't eat the fish and chips but looked great.
J. B.
Popped in because I was pretty hungry and had just arrived in Edinburgh. Didn't expect too much but was pleasantly surprised. Squid was excellent, as was haggis spring rolls. Had a very decent cocktail. Service prompt and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
T. C.
GREAT FISH AND CHIPS
Came here on a Monday Evening and had reserved a table for 8 people. It wasn't too busy and there were tables around free so you could probably walk in around that time.
Started off getting the Haggis Spring Rolls because they seemed interesting. They were nice and crispy. The Haggis filling was quite good as well. It was good to try but I won't order this one again.
The battered Haddock was classically tasty and hit the spot. It had a nice crispy skin. The chips were thick, crunchy and plentiful.
The dessert platter was okay but I probably wouldn't order this again. Everything was a little to sweet.
Everything was solid but I would probably order a different starter and dessert. Would definitely go back to get some proper fish and chips though!
J. L.
Excellent and tasty fish and chips. However, the portion of the chips is huge and may be too much for one person. Service was good as well. Overall, highly recommended!
P. K.
Lovely place, this is the second time I eat in this place. I had classic fish and chips and it was just delicious and lovely. We enjoyed the place as well. Go eat there you will love it
b.
We enjoyed this restaurant so much we ended up going twice
First visit steak pie n chips and battered sausage n chips followed by deep fried mars bar and doughnuts fantastic
Second visit fish n chips and battered white pudding n chips with portion on bread n butter again fantastic, but beware we had a portion of bread n butter each these are huge portions so one between us might have been better oh and real butter
Staff are brilliant looked after us very well
Would highly recommend a visit here thank you
M. v. E.
its just a simple fish & chips fast food restaurant, but very clean, nice lofty space und the portions were quite big... so, if you are really hungry and want to delve into food its a good place.
Really tasty and well made too. Dont expect anything fancy though.
T. C.
Returning to Berties after a year, with high anticipation and excitement.
We were not disappointed.
Staff were brilliant, food was divine and drinks were lovely. Deffo the best place to go to in Edinburgh for a lovely fish and chips, and atmosphere.
A. O.
We went for the vegan fish suppers. It was fun but be warned the portions are huge! Who is managing to order desert here?? Recommend the onion rings.
J. N.
Even with a full restaurant the staff was very friendly and with no delays. Large portions, no bones inside the meat. A great place to visit!
T. Q.
Top notch click and collect.
The haddock and chips were perfect - the kind of chip shop fish in batter that is just right but equally difficult to find in your average chippy. Nice work Bertie’s!!
Slick online ordering system too.
Will be back for sure when possible for a sit-in meal.
A. T.
The food was really good here, better than I expected for a restaurant in a popular tourist location. The staff was very warm and friendly, which made the experience that much better. I would come back for sure!
L. C.
Absolutely amazing staff, big shout out to Ben who had the life terrorised out of him by an amourouse member of our party. Food was excellent, service first class. We were an intimate wedding party and would thoroughly recommend a visit. The portions are large, great value will definately be back. Helped make a special day complete, can't praise them enough 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
M. H.
Traveling from the US, have tried fish in Ireland, London, and now Edinburgh. The battered cod was the BEST fish I have had. The Berties sauce was a great compliment, and the chips were good to.
g. t.
Food and service good, most expensive fish tea we've had at £55. Fish pakora was nothing like pakora, just bite sized fish in batter with chilli sauce, not worth the money. Prices on the high side.
A. F.
Server AJ was fantastic, especially when another person came over to take dessert order without checking GL and ice-cream wasn't suitable for 1 of our table. He rectified error before it went through. Battered fish was lovely though 7pm sitting and no cod available, which for a fish & chip place odd. Manager let the place down calling out staff in front of customers which is not exceptable.
D. S.
Proper fish and chips like they say. Vegan 'fish' and chips was superb. Huge onion rings and the deep fried Mars Bar was tasty.
M. S.
It was absolutely amazing: the service, the atmosphere, and the food - exceeded our expectations across the board! I had battered cod , and must say it was THE BEST fish & chips I've ever had in my life: natural, cooked to perfection, and absolutely mouthwatering. Highly recommend!!!
c. m.
Food was lovely especially the vegan haggis and tartar sauce. Staff were really friendly and helpful made great suggestions for our stay in Edinburgh!
S. S.
Such friendly and welcoming staff. It's so hygienic and covid conscious. Of course food is super tasty too

We had a lovely meal at your place. Fish was baked very nice! Not too hard, saulty ect. 👍
E. A.
Delicious gluten free fish and chips.
Super delicious apple crumble (gf).
Very nice stuff.
Absolutely recommend.
M. K.
Incredible. They cater for gluten free diets, vegetarians and vegans as well. They confirmed everything is fried separately and even the oils are filtered separately too. Hence no cross contamination, winning! 🙌🏽
The service and food were both excellent. I had the battered cod and chips with beans and garden peas. Oh my goodness, it was absolutely amazing. The mocktail I had was great too.
C. B.
I'd rate the food a 3.5/5, but the sheer size of it was mad. They must've chopped 6 whole potatoes for my serving of fries. I'm not exaggerating haha.
n. n.
Good food but experience spoiled by cutlery banging noise made by the waiter near by our table almost saying it's time for to leave. Tip added to your bill automatically not expected that.
R. W.
Excellent chippie food, the fish was fresh melt in your mouth and the chips were superb. My partner's veggie haggis was delicious too. Proper Edinburgh chippie sauce at every table. Very nice restaurant, we'll definitely be back.
Z. K.
The best fish and chips place in town. Friendly environment and sitting arrangement. Customers service is mind blowing. The fish and chips are non greasy in texture. Loved the experience.
S. S.
Fish was ok batter was a bit wet inside .. chips were decent .. waitress asked if we would like water said yes and never came back with any . Got presented with the bill without even asking for it and also not offered dessert menu . Also pretty expensive for what you got .. peas should come as🤞standard . But not at Bertie's £3.50 for peas . Decent enough but would not return
M. J.
Found Bertie's by chance and decided to give it go. So glad we did. Had a lovely fish and chip supper, served quickly by friendly staff in a nice contemporary diner.
They offer gluten free batter or breadcrumbs as well, which was super.
If you're in Edinburgh and want really good chip shop food with a Scottish twist, Bertie's is the place.
A. P.
Fish and chips were ok. Nothing to rave about but also not bad which is why they don’t get 5 stars for me. I’m deducting another start because they asked if we wanted water, so we said yes (common right) well they never asked if we wanted tap or bottled and just immediately brought a bottle of still water which sets you back £3.75. We would have been perfectly fine with tap which is what most places serve unless requested otherwise, but here the rule was opposite and they did not ask.
S. G.
The staff was very good nothing was a hassle. The food was very nice and crispy. The chippy sauce was just fab, live the touch they just have it on the table for your use. Everyone enjoyed the meal.
P. E.
Overall we enjoyed our meal- as other reviews have noted they have a good selection of vegetarian options, which I felt were a little expensive but expected given the fancy restaurant fitout. The staff were very warm and friendly, and given the large size of the restaurant going without a booking was no problem.
I will say the food was quite rich and oily, so I probably wouldn’t go back, however given this is a fish & chip restaurant I can’t really fault them on this. It’s good to have a nice dinner option in the area.
O. C.
Very good, but not the cheapest and the portions are unnecessarily huge. Could reduce portion sizes and charge slightly less, the profit margin would probably be even higher to be honest. Mushy peas £2.5 extra. The fish a tad too greasy in taste. I know it's a deep fried fish, so that's fairly normal, but it doesn't need to taste this oily...
J. M.
Second time there was as good as the first. They really paid attention to and accommodated our dietary restrictions. Almost the best I've had.
s.
Is already the 3rd time I come here!
Never disappointed! Amazing place, food and staff!

Great food. We stopped here based on other reviews. The food was good and it wasn't that busy right when they opened. I would definitely go back. The fish and chips were good.

Perfect for fish&chips

The best fish and chips place in town. Friendly environment and sitting arrangement. Customers service is mind blowing. The fish and chips are non greasy in texture. Loved the experience.

Lovely ambience, good music, friendly staff, Serves one of the best fish and chips. Pair it with some of the local brews for an amazing experience.
L. F.
This is a well-run restaurant. Fast and very cheerful service, hot fresh food and generous portions. I would definitely visit again. I've posted pics of the food, I had the Bertie's fritto (fried fish platter) and for dessert the Bertie's Sharing Dessert Platter.
J.
Well worth the visit, good size portions. We visited Fri lunchtime before flying home and were not hungry for the rest of the day. Will revisit when returning to Edinburgh.
C. F.
Excellent food and very quick service! I had the baked haddock and it was delicious!

Well, They Got The Apostrophe Right ... That's Proper ... We Were Four on the last Saturday Night in July, two couples, a foursome, on the lookout for a nice restaurant for dinner and a bit of fun. Our friends had already booked "Bertie's" in the Grassmarket, below the Majesty of Edinburgh Castle, their enthusiasm gushing, recommending the joint as Hip Italianate Modernism in the liveliest area around the capital. We arrived by taxi, through throbbing streets of revellers, and walked upwards in the old and crescented Victoria Street, through Scotland's party city, eventually landing in an old Kirk I remember as an antique shop, now re-revamped. To describe the concept you would need to say it's Current, Busy, Fast, Full of young and old Gushing Patrons out hunting for Something "Different." You may watch the heat of the well bestaffed kitchen, you may sit at the school-dinners-like table and seating, you will certainly be served by someone young and keen to please, but this is no fine dining experience. The music is loud, the service is slick and quick, and the bill for various entrees from a chip-shop-looking menu ... Battered Pork Sausage, Black Pudding Scotch Egg, some Fizz and Godfather Cocktails, three very mediocre Fish Suppers and a Bottle of House Wine ... is, even for Edinburgh, really a bit heavy at £140ish. But, you cannot deny the crazy look of success in this place, certainly on the face of things. And, in the context of its location, it all fits.
L. A.
Best fish and chips in Edinburgh! The portions were massive and the service was really quick.
The waiter were nice and attentive and the place was really clean and spacious. Would recommend!
M. M.
The fish was delicious. Would skip the mushy peas and bypass the jagged chips which were soggy but yet rock hard.
The waiter asked how our food was, we told him and he just said oh okay- I agree. Lol
Also, it was bloody freezing inside the restaurant.
b. h.
Well it certainly lives up to the name.
Got served quickly and with a smile. Beers on tap were ice cold, more freindly atmosphere from staff. Everyones so busy in the kitchen and the smell of fish and chips is incredible.
Starter was halumi grilled....bit cold and only criticism.
Fish you can choose cod or haddock, i got cod served with mushy pees... huge portion.
Fish was flakey and tender, batter was so crispy you actually hear the crunch.
Lovely creamy tartare sauce and lemon to squeeze... Pure heaven.
Highly recommended.
A. L.
A proper fish & chips, pleasant atmosphere.
I. V.
Delicious fish and chips in central Edinburgh, plus an eclectic selection of international dishes to please most everyone. Funny size of Coke products, almost tiny collectible-size bottles. Just pay attention to the serving sizes. Service is rather slow.
E. M. (.
Fish and chips, but it's not your typical "chippie". Food is really tasty and cooked well. 2 floors, bars provide lots of seating and a great atmosphere.
D. S.
Was recommended this place by a local friend . The staff is super friendly and service was good . However the food was a big let down . Every dish had a taste of the previous item that was fried along . They should probably use different fryer for each item since it keep the distinctive taste intact .Haggis and the recommended beer was the only saviour . I definitely think there are better restaurants for trying the local cuisine here in Edinburgh.
O. B.
Decidedly mixed.
Staff were friendly and welcoming. The bread was nice, but not suitable for making a chip butty with (the on-menu chip butty included roll). Draught Coke was unavailable leaving expensive bottles as the only option. The chips were okay - as good as doubled cooked tend to be, but double cooked is just not my preference. The fish was fine, and portion sizes were big. There was a lot of confusion over our order, which was probably unluckily down to a new staff member, but it made the visit more stressful than necessary.
A discretionary service charge is included on bills by default.
And, to forever date this review, some of the staff were bad at keeping masks over their noses.
M. W.
Vegan fish and chips were delicious, super crispy, and the tartar sauce was amazing as well.
A. B.
Just one thing…AMAZING!!!!
S. S.
Great atmosphere and absolutely amazing food. Best fish and chips I've had and the sharing desert platter was amazing!
G. M.
This place has been recommended a few times and is well known for its fried fish. Most of the dishes here are fried.. they even serve deep fried mars bars..
We ordered the classic fish and chips with a side of (fried) scampi. For dessert we had an apple pie. We drank a pint of beer each and got a coffee. In all we paid £54 and left feeling full.
The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was casual. I would definitely come here again.
R. C.
Did not expected the great and cozy environvirnment in second floor restaurant. Service was exceptional, food great, really proper Fish & chips.
K. I.
Omg! This place does not lie when it says it has "Proper Fish & Chips"
I had the Bernie's Fritto and it was almost the portion of a platter meant for 2. It was fresh, crisp and delicious.
You HAVE TO try their Sticky Toffee pudding which is finger licking good 🤩 and their sauce is one of the best I've ever eaten..
S. H.
The quality of the food was excellent. There was a slight problem getting takeaway however as there was noone at the counter downstairs, we had to go up to the restaurant and was told someone would come down to us. After a further 20 minute wait we had to go back up to fetch someone. 10 minutes later our order arrived. They have a strange setup for takeaway but app was good in the end as the food was awesome. I would recommend you visit here only if you intend to sit on the restaurant ;).
M. S.
The home of the best fish and chips in Edinburgh. Worth the visit for anyone looking for an authentic staple. Big portion sizes served hot and fresh with fast service.
D. H.
Had no idea what to expect from outside. The restaurant is upstairs which you enter from a staircase The interior is a really trendy industrial style restaurant, which is licensed. Fish and chips were superb. Would highly recommend
A. N.
Impeccable service and large portion of fish and chips!!! Personally I will recommend the battered cod over both battered/breaded haddock
M. T.
I have tried many of the award winning restaurants all over Scotland including the anstruther fish bar, land and sea, the ashvale and the townhead cafe.
However, Berties is without doubt the best fish and chips out of them all. The fish is always super fresh and cooked to perfection.
It is just a matter until they win the award for the best fish and chips in the uk.
Our waiter, Baddy is such a nice, friendly and enthusiastic guy and is always nice to my daughter - especially since she has multiple allergies. He has a great attitude and is always welcoming towards our family. Keep up the good work guys.
J. W.
Deliveroo was running late, phoned up and Frank was very apologetic and very polite which was fantastic and they also gave us a free ice cream. We were not annoyed at all and the customer service was excellent. The food in addition was fantastic!
G.
Came here on our first night and the food, service and atmosphere was amazing. The portion size was perfect and the price was well worth it. We ordered the cod fish and chips and onions rings. Definitely will be going back before we leave. We tried a well known fish and chips in Newhaven and felt Berties was a lot better. Thank you
A. B.
Lovely place with tasty food.
We arrived here on a Friday afternoon after having been turned down by other places when looking for a table for 6 persons. They not only been able to accommodate us, but they were showcasing brilliant hospitality skills. We made our orders and we got our food shortly. Not only they served us quickly, but the food was very tasty and more than enough (my parents couldn't eat all the food).
The haggis and the beetroot ketchup were super tasty, and the whiskey sauce was also brilliant.
Overall, I can certainly recommend this place to friends and relatives.
H.
Great food, fish & chips tastes a way better than in other places that I’ve been to.
J. Þ.
Very nice battered cod made by very angry scottish man 10/10 would recomend
O. B.
Very impressed with the service and it is definitely proper fish and chips. The best I've tasted for a long time!!
B. C.
Nice chippie just on Victoria St (Harry Potter fans will know it as the inspiration for Diagon Alley) Had a bit of a language barrier with the South American waiter and ended up paying extra for chip gravy when I asked for chip sauce. If you go, their chip sauce is on every table in a bottle and it's complimentary.
S. V.
Nice ambience and kind staff.
R. A.
Loved the customer service received here, very fun and kind - and the food was delicious, especially the haddock fish. They also cook in a vegetarian oil, so halal friendly.
D. F.
Great fish and chips! Fast service. Recommend!
A. A.
A bit pricey, but one of the best fish and chips I've had. Good atmosphere.
L. R. E.
A really lovely.place to eat..the food was deliciois..made to.order pipping hot ..the staff are so frienly ..you can have a soft drink coffee tea or a cheeky wee glass of wine ..nice clean toilets..also a lift if you can't manage the stairs ..all in all .a nice.relaxing meal ..would recommend a visit ..I will definitely be.back ...
H. A.
I had the battered Cod fish and it was really tasty. The experience is impressive. Giuseppe really took care of us and made the experience even better.
A. B.
Exceptional. After climbing that local hill, this scampi and chips meal was exactly what we needed. The atmosphere is lovely and the sauce to dip the scampi in tasted excellent too.
S. M.
The food was amazing and it was good they done gluten free for my wife , also excellent service.
H. H.
Decent fish&chips, also the vegan one ok. Don’t understand why they blast horrible pop music on the street though, makes waiting for the takeout a torture.
W. A.
Had the signature fish and chips on the menu with a side of mushy peas. All was good expect the chips. They seemed overfried and hard. My server was excellent and attentive!
Y. R.
Excellent food, great customer service and great location. This is a must eat restaurant while in Scotland. You will find delicious traditional dishes and the famous fish and chips.
C. &. A. R.
We had our fair share of fish and chips during our UK visit, and these were the best!
M. H.
Amazing food and atmosphere!! Great staff! Everyone is very attentive and the food is excellent.
D. E.
Got the salt and pepper squid as a starter which was quite good and it had it's own special sauce dip. For dinner we had the cod and haddock with chips. It came quickly, hot and fresh with a very large portion. The tartar sauce was not the best but overall, everything was great.
J.
Really good! A great place, a lot of food and super tasty!!! 😬 I've chosen the cod and the brownie and both delicious!
L. S.
There's a reason why they're voted Edinburgh's top fish and chips. A massive piece of fish that's drowning in crispy chips for under £10
D. I.
Have tried a lot of Fish and chips and to me this has been by far the best. And that too with a cheerful and hospitable environment.
K. R.
Best Fish & Chips I’ve ever had! Incredible location. Second trip back!!!
M. S.
Really great fish and chips. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Z. M.
Great music, clean, classy environment, nice staff and good food
M. C.
Arrived at slightly over 2. Seat promptly at a corner. Not so sure that this is among the best place when the place is not busy. Service is not as prompt as I would expect. Perhaps my own bias. Waiter is unemotional and robotic. Water was not served. Requested the 2nd time. A bottle of still water arrive. I would have expected a bottle of refill water at the bar bench. Food did arrive promptly. A good mark. Taste is good as well. But not so sure I will be back...
c. e.
Cool place with a great selection of chip shop classics and friendly service. Really good choice of veggie/vegan options, would recommend the veggie haggis.
D. D.
Unexpected gem of a place. Looking for somewhere to dodge the rain we were 3rd time lucky to get a seat in here... so glad the other pubs had no tables for us because instead of just a drink we had the most fantastic lunch here.
We would normally have walked past in search of somewhere 'better', I was wrong! We had a fantastic lunch, the vegan fish and chips was amazing, fish and chips are the one thing I miss the most since going vegan this year so when we saw it on the menu our eyes lit up. Our daughter had haddock and chips and it looked amazing and she assured us it was, when she could only manage half her meal and I was so tempted to help her out!
Our waiter was the best, what a great guy, I have worked in hospitality all my life and it makes all the difference when you have happy and cheery staff, people who make your visit a great one.
It was unfortunate due to covid rules that we had to be split into two tables but we were beside our other grown up kids who live in separate households so we still had good banter across the tables.
I normally take photos of my food but our other daughter was with us and she was having the same but we got a great photo with our waiter.
I hope management read these reviews because having great staff is as important as having great food. So double thumbs up from us 👌👍👍
m. b.
Lovely place, spacious, clean and great service.
C. T.
Phenomenal! Only been open for two weeks - but what a treat! Service really fast and food genuinely delicious! Good cocktails too. Yum!
M. C.
Had to wait nearly 3 minutes for a drink once we were seated, my daughter could only just see the huge projection screen and couldn't eat all her chips, but managed the "whale" served with it. Absolutely crackin' grub, vibe and service - can't go wrong for a bite to eat and a beer with the family. Loved the haggis supper and the beetroot ketchup was proppa tasty, but honestly nearly 3 minutes for a drink 😂 I almost got upset
G. C.
Owner was really lovely and was accommodating even though they were really busy! Great service and yummy fish and chips!
J. D.
Food is really good, sauces as well. It is not so pricey for the area. The place is really beautiful, with creative decoration and it's cozy!
C. H.
Huge portions and nice fish. Would prefer fresh chips over the triple/double cooked type. Great location. Also tried the famous deep fried Mars bar, was OK but don’t think it was freshly cooked?
T. K.
Really nice fish & chips place. Lovely decor, good food, all together great service.
A. D.
Best fish and chips in Edinburgh, excelent staff, great location and wonderful atmosphere.
C. S.
Bedlam, best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Buckfast cocktails and deep-fried Mars bars too, pure Scottish.
S. n.
Very cool. Lots of seating and great atmosphere. Good service and food is delicious. Great for families as well.
C. L.
Very good food! Proper Scottish cousin, nicely prepared.
L. F.
I'm gluten free and they couldn't be more helpful. Food really good would recommend to anyone.
J. J.
Possibly a contender for the best fish and chips on Edinburgh!
I was worried that Berties would sell 'restaurant' fish and chips, but they do proper 'chippy' fish and chips! The chips are chunky and soft, with a slightly crisp outside. The fish is fresh and tender, and has a wonderful crispy batter. Also, the portions are GENEROUS.
What stands out to me is how fresh the fish and chips taste. Unfortunately, I avoid my local chippies because their food usually has that rancid oil flavour. You absolutely do not get any old oil undertones in Bertie's fish and chips.
We've collected and delivered from this place several times without any issues. Once, I entered my address incorrectly and the staff cheerfully and quickly resolved this. Highly recommend!
K. B.
So caring, amazing service.
Me and my husband came to berties on night one of our honeymoon. We'd told our waiter this when we ordered and the whole team went above and beyond to make this casual relax meal so special for us. With complimentary prosecco and little cute ice-cream desserts, the whole restaurant couldn't have done more for us. It was the best way to start our honeymoon and the food was so fresh, incredible flavours, we can't wait to come back!
J.
Fish tasted fresh and soft but I did not enjoy the chips that much. Although 'twice cooked chips' was stated on the menu, the chips were not crispy enough. Overall, great portions of fish and chips.
C. N.
Lovely food. The chips are tasty, the chowder was beautiful, the haggis springs rolls were packed full of haggis. The calamari was a bit chewey. However the deep fried Mars bar was lovely. Oh and the cocktails are a lovely addition too. We would recommend.
K.
Fantastic fish and chips. The fish are as big as the plate and the breading isn't heavy and thick like some can be.
S. S.
The pina no colada, and all their drinks that we had are actually really good
V. G.
cool place to have some good fish and chips. good price.
R. B.
Really good fish and chips in a family friendly atmosphere.
D. B.
Loved the location, freshness of fish and chips. However, the oil or butter f&c cooked in has spoiled both tastes. I think either they use cheap oil or butter or don't change it regularly. Loved the crispines of batter. Don't think that will come here again.
N. B.
Beautiful place, big portions and very tasty. I can see why they are the best fish and chips in Edinburgh!
N. C.
Delicious fish and chips. We had the battered Haddock, seafood chowder and squid. All are good!

Superior food quality!!! cod so fresh and that curry sauce is award winning. The vegetarian fish and chips was packed with flavour. Deep fried Mars was the perfect end to world class food!!!

Fabulous service, great food and epic music!

Our waiter was really nice and helpful, we really had a great time here and the food was delicious.

Touristy and the food is okay. But - gluten free fish & chips are hard to come by! Worth the visit just for a celiac-friendly classic.
D. P.
Nice food, great service. Not the cheapest.
A. F.
Everything was awesome. The fried Mars bar is absurd but also super sweet and tasty. Must try!
A. A.
Excellent staff especially a big shout out to Baddy who did above and beyond to cater for my toddlers allergies. He was very helpful and made my 2 year old daughter enjoy her gluten free fish and chips and the yummy strawberry sorbet. Thank you Baddy it not often my daughter can enjoy a kids meal and desert with all her allergies :)

Is already the 3rd time I come here!
Never disappointed! Amazing place, food and staff!

I am more than 61 years old, which means I have eaten over 67,000 meals in my lifetime and I would seriously put the one I had at Bertie's in the Top Five. As it was my last day in town, I decided to go the whole route. I started with an Irn Bru, Scotland's leading soda. I'm still not sure what it tasted like or if liked it (or didn't). Very unique. Staying Scottish, I had the haggis spring rolls. Dense, like chopped liver, meaty but good. The sweet chili dipping sauce was perfect. I was planning on fish & chips, but saw a review that recommended the fish curry. I don't know whose review it was, but thank you. This dish was simply delicious, intensely flavored but not too hot. It had a few kinds of fish, squid, mussels, and shrimp, and came with a big ball of coconut rice. Just amazing. I finished with a latte and the caramel apple crumble with custard. Heavenly, all of it. If I'm ever back in Edinburgh, I am back there in a heartbeat. The service was also great.
M. A.
The best fish and chips I ever had 😍
D. R.
Food was hot fresh and tasty. Staff very friendly.

It is what it says on the sign proper fish and chips. This is one of the best fish supper I have had. Everything was cooked perfect and the restaurant is spacious and bright. It is a must visit next time I am in Edinburgh.👍

Was expecting Fish and Chips.....
We got this plus a whole lot more!!! Excellent food and service, the food was piping hot, staff were really welcoming and super friendly.
It's a great menu, chips were amazing as that and everything else was not greasy. Loved it!!!
C. M.
Food was delicious and the service was very good. Loved the decor and ambience.
Z. M.
Good quality nice taste!
M. W.
Lovely, fun atmosphere. Very unique and upbeat. The food was phenomenal. My mom has proclaimed it the "Best fish and chips she has ever had". My parents loved it so much we ate there 2 days in a row. Proper is the correct description of their fish and chips. Huge piece of battered fish on a bed of chips, with an exceptional tartar sauce. Beef pie is also very good. 10/10 recommend.
M. B.
Great food, and loved the gluten free options
L. S.
Fast service, excellent hosts, and great food!

Good food, friendly staff. Best fish and chips according to our guide. Have to agree.

What a gem! Delicious fish, nice decor and super friendly staff. The polish waitress was a great host. She recommended us to try their cider and it was to die for. Strongly recommended!
T. P.
Great place! And the food is served fast, which is very nice when you are late to your flight!
J.
A spacious and lovely restaurant - highly recommend a visit. Battered cod was delicious and a very generous portion. Cannot remember the our waitor's name but he was excellent!
S. P. J.
Worth the extra money considering the venue, service and very well made food, extremely light crispy batter, it was so good my friend ordered another piece of fish to go with his fish supper as he loved it so much 😃😃👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾
J. W.
Food was served very quickly and was hot and well cooked. Staff friendly and efficient. Would definitely eat there again if ever in Edinburgh again.

Wow proper fish & chips done right. Curry sauce was good !!!!
C. C.
Food here is amazing, we had Haggis scotch eggs and haggis spring roll for starter. Didnt touch the sides. I had scampi and chips and my husband and mother had cod and chips. Food is out of this world, husband has decided these are the best chips he has ever tasted. of course cannot forget the staff, friendly and welcoming place would definitely come again.
M. B.
Super friendly Staff in there and the food is absolute delish! Very nice varieties of all sorts of fish. Even steak pie. The desserts are heavenly, we couldn't decide which we should take coz they all sounded beautiful. We chose the salted caramel sundae and I've never tasted anything like this
Recommend to book in, it was very busy on a Saturday evening so just to make sure that you'll get seated. Enjoy it! X
D. C.
Had a lovely burns night meal for our anniversary and enjoyed the whiskey tasting
S. P.
Nice food, quick service. Would recommend!
w. j.
The fish was class but the chips were like the worst I ever had. They should stop trying them twice.
K. B.
Amazing restaurant and fried Mars bar dessert is the best ever!
V. M.
We were seated immediately and our order was taken. The food came out quickly, hot and fresh! We tried the battered haddock and battered cod fish and chips. Both were delicious! We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and thoroughly enjoyed it! The restaurant had a lively, open atmosphere. Natalie was friendly, welcoming, fun, and even offered suggestions for other things to do around town! Everything was fantastic and I'd definitely recommend it to others!
S. M.
Nice food and drinks! Chippy style food in a restaurant setting. For starters we shared the black pudding scotch egg and haggis spring rolls, both excellent. For mains we had the steak pie and battered haddock again very nice.
Service was a bit slow especially as the place was quite quiet.
Would return again but not in a hurry.
J. V. d. E.
Very nice (or proper) fish & chips, although a bit much for me.
J. L.
Got the original Fish and chips delicious. Great service and staff. Lovely inside.
B. W.
Food is nothing special definitely not worth the price you pay. Service was alright, definitely room for improvement.
S. F.
Berties has been my go to for fish and chips since they opened up in Edinburgh! The fish is always perfect and tastes fresh. Plus they offer decent veggie options for my partner.
Unfortunately they've recently put their prices up on deliveroo to £12.95 for a haddock supper. Understand those prices in the restaurant but just seems too much for a takeaway 🥲.
Fair play to them if others are willing to pay that but I'm going fishing elsewhere.
C. D.
Favourite fish and chips in Edinburgh, was torn between 4 stars and 5 stars because while I love the food, the prices are a little higher, but I came to the conclusion that it’s worth it. I love the curry sauce, it’s nicely different to other chippy curry sauces and the batter on the fish and potato fritters is fantastic.
My only improvement (other than lower prices) would be packaging. I’ve had Berties via collection and also via delivery, when I collected we sat at Grassmarket and ate and everything was fresh and crispy. Whereas when I ordered via delivery, the chips were tightly packed in one side of the box making them just a little soggy and un-crispy upon arrival. I think squashing the chips together makes them clump together and become a bit soggy. I definitely don’t want Berties to decrease the portion size because they’re perfect, but maybe getting bigger boxes or sending out the chips in a more roomy box would be better!
S. “. S.
The best fish & chips I've ever had - and I've tried plenty!
Value for money: 9/10
Crisp: 11/10
Deliciousness: 11/10
We actually took one portion to take away and ended up eating it almost an hour later... It was still super crisp and amazingly tasty!
There are so many reasons for us to go back to Edinburgh; Bertie's Proper Fish & Chips is one of them!
C. M.
Stopped in here for a quick dinner before a gig next sort. Good food and fast friendly service. The haddock fish and chips was good, but the fish curry was absolutely fantastic. Reasonable price and good food. Venture beyond the basic fish n’ chips and you’ll be impressed by the menu.
R. P.
Amazing! Great fish , great chips, one of the main reasons for knowing this is the use the right cooking oil! That's one of the most important aspects, so when you have finished your massive plate of fish & chips you do not fill bloated and heavy! Thanks Bertie's
E. C.
Super good fish and chips in a very nice street and great looking place. The plate is big, and enough for two people. We took the mix platter, to try different things, and it was delicious. The tartare sauce was beyond delicious. Also, you get a lollipop when leaving, it's a very nice touch.
T. C.
Fantastic fish and chips as well as deep fried haggis 😋😋🏴
I. C.
First time customer. Really great experience at Bertie's tonight. Firstly all staff were very professional and did their jobs with a smile on their faces. Warm and friendly service. Food was excellent. Everything was clearly very fresh. Crispy batter with moist melt in your mouth fish. Chips were good as well, although regarding them I would say there were a few to many measly, runtish little ones. I would like to a see a more consistently beefy sized chip selection in future. I have to give the black pudding scotch eggs a major shout out. Absolutely delicious with the beetroot sauce and complemented the main perfectly. I was feeling so good after the starter and main that I felt as a Scot who had never had a fried Mars Bar it would be rude not to. Can't say I was disappointed at all. On top of this I'd like to add that Bertie's struck me as well managed. The place was very clean (including the toilets), the staff were on point, the menu catered to people with allergies, specialist eating and there was disabled access. Thanks for the great night!
J. D.
Atmosphere:
Nice open plan modern looking location with a choice of high table seating, booths and normal seating with bigger tables up on the top floor for larger groups.
Service:
Service was quick and attentive and nothing was forgotten.
Food:
My cod and chips with chippy sauce (An Edinburgh special) was delicious, my girlfriend thought her vegan burger was good but wasn't the biggest fan of the double fried chips. We also split a fried Mars bar which was amazing but I have nothing to compare it to as it was my first one!
Suggestions for staff:
-Consider switching from the little packets of Heinz sauce to some sort of recyclable bottle as not only would it be nice to save on plastic but the packets were remarkably hard to open once you had picked up a chip.
Really good place , will be returning.
B. H.
Great varied menu, perfectly cooked food and extremely friendly staff. Lively atmosphere and plenty of choice (The Bertie's Sea Dog is highly recommended)
S. A.
Outstanding!! Can not recommend enough everything was so tasty! The staff were so lovely and friendly! Definitely missing out if you don't go!

Best fish from a fish and chips ever! We had the haddock with chips. Haggis is delicious also with a beetroot side sauce - complements the flavours well. Fast and friendly service. Would recommend! Shame they didn’t have any pickles/gherkins.

Fish was a bit over done, was OK just but have to say, tipegle chain

I ordered through deliveroo this evening. I nearly cried when I started eating it. It was so fresh, delicious and delicate. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. The best food I've ever had delivered in 48 years. Because I eat vegetarian and can't eat hot/spice at all- ,I ordered veggie haggis pudding supper, onion rings and halloumi tortillas. Only managed half of it and will enjoy the rest tomorrow. What a treat that was.
J. B.
Proper FISH & CHIPS - True Dat Holmes!!! The walk down the steps from Upper Bow to a slightly less hEcTiC location on Victoria St. in tourist jammed Edinburgh was FuN enough, but the Proper Fish & Chips with a PINT (or 3) was even batter!!!! '='
A. K. H.
Definitely a proper portion of fish and chips, kept us full for the whole day - but it was worth it so much! Really delicious fish and chips (both battered cod and haddock), and the haggis spring rolls are also really nice. Would recommend!
A. B.
Well, if you ask me, I've not had fish and chips from various restaurants, but the fish and chips they had was one of the best ones I've had. The tartar sauce was the speciality and it was on point! Just blended in well with the fish and the chips. Being a full time student, is this a restaurant that I would visit on a regular basis? Definitely Not! Majorly because of the price. I wouldn't want to spend £13 on fish and chips every now and then. The funny part is, even though I saw plenty of hosts around, our services and the time taken to attend us was surprisingly long. Probably that's one aspect that the restaurant can improve.
M. B.
Simply love it!! Delicious food and staff is incredibly well trained and warm with clients.
Lincoln was the waiter who attended me and I want to mention that he made me feel welcomed and helped a lot to choose the exact portion that I needed. Excellent!
C. 0.
Massive portions, great range of food. Perfectly cooked. Reasonable priced Very clean environment, great service from friendly staff.
J. H.
A generous portion of beautiful cod, nicest I have ever tasted
(that's my opinion)nice chips and their own made tartar sauce as much as you require. The portion of mushy peas might be enough for two to share. Finished off by the excellent service from the staff. What a gem of a find. Will be top on my return visit list.
D. S.
Was in on 2nd Jan at lunchtime.
Great service. Attentive waitress (petite black haired girl, sorry never got her name).
Had Steak pie & Chips with side of gravy & large soft drink. Food came promptly, hot & delicious.
£17.95 in total which is very reasonable for location. £20 given and no change asked for as I was impressed, well done Bertie's!
L. T.
PROPER Fish and chips. Unexpected, and very, very good.
The first dinner we got there randomly, and tried the breaded haddock and the fish tacos, together with sweet potatoes. We were delighted, and came again the following evening - delighted again!
The desserts offering could be better, but that's the only complaint.
P. M.
Lovely cooked haddock, only complaint I had was the slightly undercooked chips.
R. H.
Excellent fish & chips.....their specialty. You get a choice of cod or haddock with the beer batter and both were fantastic. Crowded restaurant with very good service. The atmosphere is great with lots of energy throughout. We highly recommend Bertie's!!!
c. l.
Squids were amazing.
Fish and chips: no so good. Cooked in old, rancid, acid oil. No good at all. I could not finish it. Double cooked chips were soggy.
T. B.
Great food - good portion sizes and cooked perfectly.
Covid safety measures had me feeling safe and relaxed while I was in the restaurant. Socially distanced tables & sanitizer on entering.
F. _.
We arrived as a group of 10 people (Tues) after 8pm. We were seated without delay. The food and service was prompt. Very impressive to receive our food at the same time. Food was delicious. Everyone was pleased. We ordered main dishes and dessert. I highly recommend
R.
I don't know. What's the hype really about? Overpriced average tasting fish and chips.
E. R.
Amazing food, strongly suggest a visit
W. P.
We forgot to take picture because we were so hungry! However, this place offer really tasty Fish & Chips and Steak Burgers. I love the sauce. I think this place is the best Fish & Chips I've ever tasted.
L. E.
Good amount of food with a regular price. Although, they deep fry the food, which made the food very oily, something that didn't went well for me and can be a problem for other people as well. I know this is a personal issue and this does not affect my evaluation. The thing is related with my fries, were a little bit raw :(
But the place still worth a visit and it is far better than most of the other restaurants in Edinburgh at the same price range.
H. T.
Good food, good price, good service, that's what you get for choosing to dine here
S. Z.
Great fish and chips, clean oil and good local beers on tap. We had a great time. Service was warm and efficient, prices are OK. We split our dish and the desert, which was perfect quantity-wise for a light meal.
C. D.
I have been here on five occasions in the last few months. Three meals have been good but two have been poor. On my penultimate visit with a group our double cooked chips were like leather as though they had been cooked twice for three days in a row. On the latest occasion the chips were little better but the portion size of the whole meal was very disappointing. A couple next to us who we heard ordering their meals at the same time as we did had twice as many chips on their plate and much bigger fish. Might not go again. Depends if proprietor responds favourably.
J. K.
For me they have the best gluten free fish and chips in Edinburgh ☺️ just thinking about it makes me want to go back right now 😅🙂
I. K.
Amazing service. I ordered battered Cod and chips. You can choose between Beef drip oil or vegetable oil. The fish is not beer battered as confirmed by the waiter. Great place. Curry sauce is good tea.
G. H.
Amazing fish, chips and homemade tartare sauce. Good price for Edinburgh. Lovely atmosphere with friendly, but not overbearing staff. Great selection of drinks too. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
G. J.
Not many good fish and chips shops left in the UK but this didn't disappoint.
י. ר.
Tasty food, great cocktails.
N. K.
Nice food and a great atmosphere
C. L.
Can't really fault this new place. Chips were chippy chips. You can choose between cod or haddock. There is chippy brown sauce on your table, and tartare sauce is available for non-Edinburgh people. Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is decent too without being too loud, and being family friendly at the same time. It can get quite hot in there with the open kitchen. Prices were fair... City centre location and so can't expect takeaway prices. Seating is upstairs and there is a lift for wheelchair /buggy access.
E. V.
I had a family dinner on week day. The restaurant is very well decorated and comfortable and the staff friendly and very patient with us (thank you!).
About the food I have to say bit overpriced and everything was overcooked, so the fish dry and the peas tasteless, maybe the chef was inattentive?
At the end the family was happy with big portions of ice cream.
M. H.
Food is nice but don't expect a lot of change from the prices as they are very expensive for what it is. I had a single battered sausage which is nearly £6!!! It does not come with chips...just a sausage. Because of this, I am only giving it 3 stars even though it is a restaurant. There are other and more interesting restaurants in Edinburgh which are reasonably priced.
J. J.
Really good fish n chips 😋🤤
R. v. d. M.
This is not your average chippie. This, ladies & gentlemen, is an experience. Went there without reservation - got seats immediately although the place was pretty much booked up. Haddock & chips fantastic - ambiance completely unexpected. One can spend a few hours there - plenty of great drinks. I want to live there.
R. F.
This is an excellent family restaurant. Friendly service, lots of space. Great fish and chips. Top quality. Recommend 4****
J. P.
Not the cheapest fish and chips joint however the food really is top notch. The haggis is also 👌
A. M.
Best fish and chips I've had. So good that by the time I realised I needed to take a picture, the food was already finished. Will add photos when I go back (tomorrow)
Update: went back the next day (23/06/19) for a takeaway and forgot to take pictures again... It's still fantastic with the exception of their plastic bags.
Pro tip: don't use their plastic bags as it will:
1) not fit the box of fish and chips properly as they are too long.
2) not allow the water vapour to escape, resulting in a soggy box and soggy contents (your fish too).
I will definitely come back here the next time I'm in Edinburgh.
K. M.
Great food and staff friendly....
S. H.
Great restaurant with amazing service and even better food. I had the breaded haddock and chips and haggis, one of the best fish and chips I have had and the haggis was surprisingly good. Service was professional and atmosphere and decor of the restaurant made the experience even better. Would 5/5 recommend here.
I. W.
Great taste, interesting interior. Quite fun and friendly.
O. H.
Great food, a little bit more than I'm used to paying at my local chippy but hey! I guess this is the city after all! Was worth the visit.
s. l.
Friendly people...nice restaurant and good food
L. M.
At Bertie's, the name says it all! If you want to have a food experience that promises "proper fish and chips," then you must stop at Bertie's! The fish was fresh and fried crispy. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere inviting. Wonderful restaurant, overall!
P. B.
Good quality, good price, deffo go again.
The staff were extremely friendly, great with the kids and enthusiastic, a wonderful dining experience
T. K.
Very tasty fish and chips and staff were very accommodating to our halal diet e.g. frying in separate oil etc.
R. C.
Collected order of haddock supper and thoroughly enjoyed! Very fresh tasting fish supper and worth the money. Will go here if ever in need of great fish n chips
K. S.
An proper restaurant with well prepared food that is mainly the classic chips and fish. They also offer many vegetarian options. The interior is an interesting american diner/cave design. Definitely worth a try for a unique experience!
V. N.
One of the best fish and chips in UK
G. M.
Had a fantastic meal at Bertie’s - staff were really friendly and a lot of care and attention has been put into the modern decor and ambience. The food was great, generous portions and choice of locally sourced produce. We had the smoked salmon to start plus the squid followed by battered haddock with proper chip shop chips, homemade tartar sauce and garden peas - couldn’t fault any of the dishes and just enough space left for ice cream. A great new addition to Edinburgh and wish them every success!
C.
Fantastic! Had a lovely lunch here yesterday. The place was really busy and our waiter did really well keeping his tables happy, he could probably have done with some help! Food was absolutely delicious and portions are big.
D. T.
Friendly staff. Spacious, great for families. Food portion is quite large. They come with large potato fries.
Don't order the burger.
K. M.
We went here before the theatre, is approximately a 15 minute walk from the playhouse which is quiet nice to walk of your dinner before sitting down for hours! A really pretty restaurant! Posh chippy which is great it caters to all age ranges which is great if you are going with the whole family
I. E.
We stumbled across Bertie's upon trying to find somewhere close to eat on a cold stormy day in Edinburgh. At first my boyfriend and I had reservations as we we're both vegetarian but we we're informed by family that they had a good veggie selection. When we arrived we were met with smiles and friendly staff. The staff were attentive and so so so friendly, we go too know both Aga and Michan (the two polish members of staff) and they we're absolutely fantastic!!! When asked they informed us of their life and how they made it to Edinburgh and they were both absolutely fascinating!!! Would HIGHLY recommend this place not only for the vast range of delicious Vegetarian/Gluten Free options but also the staff. If you would like a fantastic well priced meal with staff who make you feel welcome (so much so they hugged us goodbye!!) then this is definitely the place for you!!! Can't wait to visit again. 10/10!
S. A. M.
Overall, comfy and tasty. Huge portions and nice service folks.
C. S.
Stuck with the fish and chips. It was good.
A. C.
Overrated and very expensive fish and chips if you choose to dine in. I don’t think it’s worth it at all.
A. P.
First class haddock and chips.
First class apple crumble.
Job done, get yourselves down there!
A. B.
One of the best in Edimburgh for us. First of all the kitchen stay open more than others, and just this is so good! After this, obviously, the meal: all was perfect! Cheap and great. It's really not so expensive, really cheaper even if it's in a good place and also the interior is good, really wide with many places and 2 floor. It's also one of the few places where You can choose between cod or haddock, both really good! We tried also the mussels and was really the best one! You can look at the photo the sauce so tasty there was! You'll find also any sauce. Also the staff were great with many Italian girls that helped us! Goo music that was never too loud and comfy and friendly atmosphere.
エ.
Best I've had since childhood! Fish batter is light and crispy. Chips also but not oily. Super friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended!
j. h.
If you want old style fish and chips, then you really need to go here it's as simple as that!! Very nice place and well kept, good variety on the menu, plus they offer gulten free!! Good service with reasonably priced menu. They also do take away as well 😉
J. R.
Definitely the best fish and chips in Edinburgh . Also the benefit you can also get the gluten free alternative .
A. G.
Great place. Wide menu and good service.
R. B.
*OMG*You can't call this a fish and chip shop it's just amazing. Have just eaten here in the last hour and had to write a review if you are visiting Edinburgh like my partner and I its a must to go and eat. We had cajun fish taco's and salt and pepper squid starters, seafood fish pie with cheese topped crumble with sweet potato fries and a battered cod and twice cooked chips. The portions are very generous so if your hungry it's a no brainer. The staff were all very friendly and polite.
S. G.
Good meal, fast service. Price is good for what they're offering.
A. S.
Amazing gluten free fish and chips 🍟
D. S.
Wow! This is an amazing fish and chip (and more!) restaurant. It is centrally situated, in a historic near the castle and the Royal Mile. Food is great and service friendly and excellent.
If you are in Edinburgh, this is a must. Very highly recommended.
M. R.
An amazing new chippy restaurant in the heart of old town. The staff were top notch and the attention to detail was second to none. Bertie’s also caters to vegans, vegetarians and those who don’t like fried fish! Definitely recommend the Scotch egg!!
Below are close ups of the battered, breaded and baked fish!
z. n.
The best place in town! Super fresh ingredients and amazing service. Deeply recommended. The place is super clean and when you move out you don’t smell as a fried fish. All the staff is friendly and professional. I will back soon
I. S.
Amazing new fish&chips place in town. It's so new you can't really see it on Street View yet - but once you're on [Diagon Alley] Victoria Street, there's no chance you can miss it. Fantastic battered fish in very healthy portions, spacious still cozy interior, and a wide variety of drinks. A new must-try in Edinburgh for sure!
f. h.
Brilliant fish and chips service was excellent
A. M.
Great place for decent fish and chips (And alot more). Had the steak pie which was excellent.
I. C.
First visit to this place. Lovely food seem to specialise in fish and chips but i am not a fish eater eater but had a good d choice of other chippy dishes. Decor great and staff goodbut not exactlt cheapest place to be. Unfortunately our group was stung with heavily priced drinks
VOdka and coks pricng at 7.95 each s beware drink elsewhere
J. V.
We came here without booking a table and had to wait a couple of minutes before we could be seated, this place is quite popular. It is understandable tho, the portions were not only quite big but also very nicely prepared, handmade tartar sauce was a great bonus. Staff was very friendly as well
C. F.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent food, very friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend for all the family.
2x pokestops available from the tables to keep kids happy.
Only mark down is that kids meals come with chippy chips.
S. M.
OMG, you must go hear the manager and his staff are brilliant.the manager meets you seats you. During meal comes and speaks to you. I can't parse it enough with him and his stsff
I can't eat a lot at once so they gave me kid portion. Also wheelchairs can go also they have a lift. You see your fish being cooked. The chef is very nice to. The only down side I would say is ,it needs proper signage out side and corner off street. PLEASE go and visit. I will be back with hubby.
H.
Good food, expensive, one sensitive staff member. She took our order and when we had questions, he reply was “that’s what I said!”, in a defensive manner. He attitude stunk so we didn’t pay the 10% optional service charge they apply automatically to the bill. Avoid the girl with big Aum tattoo on back of neck.
W. H.
Gluten free battered fish indistinguishable from the regular option, a real rarity. The chips were pretty good too....
Nice place, friendly and efficient staff, massive portions, marvellous!!
A. R.
Fish and chips were brilliant so wiz the, IRN-RU. Didnt try the Buckfast, no one should.
J. D.
Superb food very reasonable and great atmosphere
H. S.
Fabulous fish and chips and a gluten free option which was just as tasty! Highly recommend.
K. M.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was 15 minutes to closing the kitchen and they treated me like we had all the time in the world. I had a nice light Inness laugher which was smooth and very little hops as it did not aggravate my allergies to hops. Fish & Chips were Krispy and lived up to the name proper.
R. L.
Very good food and service prices about right, but don't like the idea of bill with 2 different amounts, ie one with 10% tip added or the normal bill.
L. T.
Really good food and beer. The atmosphere was fine but a little too 'American diner' for me. Can't fault the product though, just good fish and chips. Always choose an Innes and Gunn ale if there's one on the menu.
J. S.
Went for haddock veg oil cooked fish and chips in batter.
Was cooked to perfection.
Portion size was perfect.
Price was good have paid more for sit in fish and chips elsewhere.
J. S.
The fish and chips were nice had quite a long wait for our take away as the restaurant was busy.
W. C.
The food was delicious, the staff were courteous & helpful. Would've awarded 5 stars, if we weren't charged for a bottle of still water. When they asked which kind, we assumed it'd be still tap water - but no. Very underhanded.
M. E.
A bit expensive but the food was very good.
K. T.
Well laid out in a modern and comfortable style. Plenty seating over 2 floors. Pleasant and efficient staff. Excellent choices well presented. The food is hot and very tasty. Competitively priced, would recommend to anyone. Well done.
G. E.
Lovely fish, friendly service, my best meal in 2021 so far.
S. S.
Don't get it, to be completely honest. Fish was much oily for a great taste, the double fried chips were just about average, I've had so much better for less than half prices. I think this place is just the overhype with celebrity pictures and the "PROPER" name.
K. P.
On a cold nippy night in Edinburgh for our little excursion away from home, we fancied something familiar and hot. We tried to get the Worlds End at about 5:30pm on Thursday evening but didn't book and of course we didn't get a table, but as life has taught me go with the flow and see where it takes you and we ended up at the doors of Bertie's Proper Fish & Chips.......
We should have come here first!
The welcome was fantastic especially coming in from the cold and it was the 2nd night of opening (hence why they weren't many reviews from customers). What luck!!!!
We was directed upstairs and round a couple of doors and ended up in Fish and Chips wonderland.. it was warm, bright and the smell from the batter meant I was home. We were served by Leandro, who couldn't be more accommodating and showed us the menu and we ordered:
Calamari- a great sign of a proper fish and chips is how they cook the calamari and I can say.. jobs a good'un.. went down so well that it disappeared in about 30seconds
Battered Haddock- I think we made the right choice, the batter was crispy but light with almost a sweet freshness. The fish was perfectly cooked and still very moist and very flavourful. The batter really did protect the fish really well.
Fish Pie- you can tell it is hand made from the taste: creamy sauce, whole pieces of fresh prawns, big chunks of fish.. delicious..
Battered Sausage- (Light and crispy batter, very rich Sausage meat, a little over salted but great with the sweet tangy sauce provided)
Well well well worth it to come here. Make it your first port of call. It brought a very large smile over our faces.. like a PROPER Fish & Chips should do.
D. W.
I'm a self proclaimed comfort food connoisseur, and as such, was super excited after reading about this in the Edinburgh Evening News. The place is great in size and layout. As we were being seated we were told the name of our server who was about to arrive, a bit American, I'm not interested in who brings my food tbh but they were very friendly none the less.
I paid the extra for the "large" option on the fish and chips, £13.95 to be precise, and although the fish was really nice, its about 30% ish smaller than a Ramsden's equivalent, and the batter on the bottom was soggy (no big deal). The "twice cooked chips" are nothing special. Even at home I cook chips three times. A hot bag of chips walking down the street is probably more enjoyable, although they were perfectly nice, just not 14 quid nice.
Our 4 year old liked it. He demolished some squid rings and he loves his little bucket and spade they gave him with the crayons inside. After deciding to take his shoes off for no reason and then demanding to go to the toilet in his socks, it's so nice and clean that it's probably better doing that there than at home.
Overall, love the fact this place exists in the city centre, but getting a fish supper from a normal chippy is what I'll do next time.
A. G.
Really enjoyed Berties, their Haggis Spring Rolls were delicious and don't even get me started on on how tasty their battered Haddock was.
All in all a great place. Would happily come back any time.
A. A.
It was my 1st foray into eating haggis, and I got the haggis spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. AMAZING!! They were so good and my breaded haddock with chips totally won me over on eating here whenever I'm in town.
R. M.
What a great experience. We are a family of 4, and everyone loved it. They treated the kids well with suitable distractions that made it easy for us. The food was also very good fish and chips.
M. M.
this my 3rd time To Berties and loved it . but tonight I was really disappointed the fish was very dry and over cooked the batter look like it had been overcooked and chips were not nice at all sorry about I was really disappointed. ..will def be back at some point but not soon all Staff are amazing very helpful .cheery and very efficient just been a bad night for me we in there at 4 30 today xxx
A. C.
Very nice fish and chips. The coffee martinis are a treat
M. O.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.. lovely big portions of fish and chips.
P. C.
Nice place, best Fish & Chips
S. S.
My favorite chippy in Edinburgh. Large dining room with open kitchen on the first floor (lift available). Huge sports bar on the second floor. I want to try the dessert sampler but always fill up on crispy fish and a tonne of chips.
M. P.
Proper fish&chips. Fried Mars bar is worth trying!
e. j.
Lovely wee dinner splash out go and enjoy
M. G.
This was one of the best fish and chips I've had. I ordered online for home delivery, which was efficient and fast. 5* from me. Thank you Bertie's fish and chips xxx
I. S.
Nice service, solid food, actually great for Fish & Chips. Great vibe in the place. You can drink anything from beers, coctails to non-alcoholic drinks. You can see how they are preparing your meal as the kitchen is partly open for everyone to see. If you are next to the windows you can see cowgate and tops of the buildings as the restaurant part of Bertie's is upfloor.
Great addition is access for disabled. They have an elevator and appropriate toilets.
If you want to eat a proper British Fish & Chips (they have the brown sauce and vinegar) at a great location (next to Grass Market, wooop!!!) this is the place for you.
H. O.
Located in the city of Edinburgh this is a brilliant place for food for an amazing price. The atmosphere here is amazing and the staff are so polite and offer all the help they can.The food is delicious. I would definitely advice you to pop in if your ever in Edinburgh.
J. E.
In Edinburgh for New Year's Eve celebrations. Came across Bertie's by chance. Food delicious, the fish melts in your mouth. The cocktails were fabulous and the staff amazing. Great place.
j. s.
Large clean and bright restaurant with plenty of room upstairs for larger groups.
The food is ok,the signature dish of fish and chips wasn't the best I've had but it was ok.
On the whole not bad.
l. j.
Fantastic place, beautifully decorated inside, friendly staff, all meals were great would definitely come again. Atmosphere was great
K. S.
An excellent fish and chip restaurant in the Grassmarket district of Edinburgh. Generous portions and reasonable prices.
N. N.
Without doubt the best fish and chips I've ever had and I've had lots. An absolute must
M.
Great service and good food. Very quick with my orders
G. B.
The best restaurant in Edinburgh service was excellent and portions huge reasonable price huge recommendation 1st but not last
G. O.
Nice place. I know it's fish and chips which were lovely but would be good to have a couple of chicken dishes, my 15 year old daughter ate the chicken coujons off the kids menu but adults might enjoy these as well.
E.
Excellent fish n chips
A. H.
Berties was amazing! The serving staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and my partner and I really enjoyed our meal. I was especially pleased to see all the allergens indicated on the normal menu and a huge amount of choice available. As a coeliac it was very comforting to know that everyone was very clued up and that they used a separate fryer for my food. Brilliant job Berties, will be visiting again!
S. G.
Perfect for fish&chips
A. N.
Breaded fish was good. Lots of options on the menu. Enjoyed the food
K. B.
Great food and fast and friendly service even on a busy weekend.
N. C.
Awesome atmosphere and attentive service! Fish & chips were OK - not the best. The apple crumble and the coffee were incredible though!
a. f.
Prices were ok, service was friendly, but the frying was too heavy. Both the battered fish and the scampi we ordered left us with a greasy sensation both in our mouths and stomachs.
S. K.
1st visit and was excellent, proper fish supper, proper mushy peas not the bright green rubbish some places serve, stafff were lovely & my partner loved the tartare sauce to. Give it a try people you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to going again
J. B.
This place is fabulous, the food is amazing. I would definately recommend the Cod & Chips and the Battered Mars Bar for dessert it's amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
N. P.
Nice staff and actually pretty proper fish and chips in fact. Not too pricy and always easy to get a table given its in the middle of town. Good for kids.
z. b.
Delicious food and plenty to choose from, the service was excellent. We will return whenever we visit the city again.
S.
Good fish and chips but drinks too expensive at £6.50 for a weak vodka and coke! It was uncomfortably hot upstairs but overall a nice place to eat with friendly staff.
T. H.
Went on the recommendation for best fish n chips by our local tour guide and were not disappointed. Excellent food! Loved the vegetarian haggis as well!
S. S.
Had battered cod & chips. Fish was fantastic, chips tasted great but were a bit soggy. Really friendly, professional and helpful service so I'll give five stars even though I really, really want crisp chips 😉
D. B.
What a fantastic place to eat. Lovely food, the vegan burger was so tasty.
Lovely helpful staff.
C. S.
Good food, haddock was lovely, deep fried mars bar was interesting 😀
O. G.
Good value for money when it comes to fish & chips
b. j.
Superb food in a fast serving and friendly environment. Went mid August 2021, booking essential.
A. S.
Quality and taste ❤️

Experience dining with great fish and chips, buzzing atmosphere, the mixologist is a genius! Outrageous dessert!!!! In a bonkers and amazing way. If you want to experience fish and chips, do it here!!!
W. S.
Great atmosphere food is great been here about 4 times now first was about 2 yrs ago.
F. T. L.
Absolutly fantastic restaurant, finally a 24/7 glutenfree Fish & Chips place. Girlfriend was totally happy with her Fish and after 3 years of travelling to Edinburgh she was able to get some "proper Fish & Chips.
