Reviews of Bread Street Kitchen & Bar - Edinburgh
K. H.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here, the wait staff are very attentive and friendly. They are also great for helping with recommendations.
We had the chicken wings and duck to start, pork belly with a side of mash and fish and chips for mains, we then shared the cheesecake for dessert. All were absolutely divine.
Gorgeous setting, with a beautiful view. Highly recommend.

Top staff! friendly and really helpful.
Local is looking great with English vibe.
Highly recommend steaks but sadly burgers are not the best, it’s not the type of meat which I’ll expect. It’s not a pure beff but they are adding bread or breadcrumbs as the meat it’s quite hard. Fries and all sides are all very nice.
Great place for drinks and steaks that’s for sure!

We had a fantastic night and the food was delicious. The beef Wellington is to die for. The staff were amazing, so friendly and very professional, in particular David who looked after us so well and answered all our questions regarding the menu. He made us feel so welcome. I can’t recommend the service and food enough. We can’t wait to return.

The starters were amazing, the main and the desserts were OK. The ambient is nice and our waitress did a good job. I would definitely go again, mostly because of the spicy tuna tartar. It's also kid friendly, which is a big plus in Edinburgh.

Superb venue. Breakfast, high quality, great service, and then the day just gets better. Superb food, lovely staff, personal service. Evenings the venue comes to life with the great menu and a fantastic drinks range, including my favourite the unpasteurised high-quality lager.

Hard to choose a number. I think better than a 3 but not quite a 4. Ambiance was lovely and service was top notch. Tartare was quite good as was the bread basket. Butter had a sprinkling of salt on top, nice touch. Mains were less impressive. Burger only comes cooked through, no medium or rare allowed which is ok but it had an odd texture that we could not identify. Cannelloni was ok, nothing special. Pork Belly was good but mashed potatoes also had a slight texture issue. Overall worth a try but not amazing.

The wait staff was very nice and attentive. Better than most of the other restaurants in Scotland that I had visited. We got there around 1820 and had no wait with no reservation and the place was practically empty. Within 20 minutes of us being there however, all tables were full. We ordered the beef wellington and it was perfect. It was a lot of food for 2 people, too much for just me and my mom to finish.
Only complaint I have is that where we were seated. I was facing a door that the staff kept using and there was a bright white light that became annoying and blinding everytime it was used since the restaurant has very dim yellow lighting.

Amazing staff , credit to Robin our waiter who was a gentleman and made a real fuss of us. Him and the female manager with dark hair who seated us brought us a lovely surprise at the end of our meal for our anniversary

Visited the other day for what turned out to be one of the best lunches we've ever had! Waheed was a fantastic host, friendly & professional, as were all the staff. Food was delicious & fresh, & it's a real pity we didn't have time to stay longer. The restaurant itself is really chic & we hope to return to spend an evening there. Thanks again guys!
C. A.
Service was top Notch! Our waiter was very attentive and when I asked questions about the food I could see cooking he took the time to explain everything to me. The beef Wellington was lovely. The meat was unbelievable tender.
We tried the haggis bites for starters... delicious!!!
I don't normally like sticky toffee pudding but my husband does so we decided to share one (also I had tried this at another GR restaurant previously). It is so light. It is the best ever!
K. K.
Crispy duck on cress with pickled ginger and sesame seeds. Beautiful end to the afternoon. Very attentive to allergies. Only wish we'd been seated on the second floor. Great views.
R. R.
Very polite staff, delicious food, nice atmosphere, good value for money, portions are big and tasty.
Be aware that on the bill you will have a mandatory 12,5% tips of the total.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. Couldn't fault the food at all and our server Alessio was extremely attentive ensuring that we constantly had our water filled and were fully satisfied with our meals. He was also very keen to help and answer any questions that we had, especially regarding types of cocktails that I may like. Can't wait to visit again!
G.
It's ok, not too sure what we was expecting. But with it being a named place, maybe something different from normal pub grub. Fish and chips burger, prawn cocktail, king prawns, also pints not served in branded glass. £11 for an expresso martini with no coffee beans for decoration....
C. C.
As expected. Simple food, cooked and served(great staff) to perfection. Prices accordingly with location. A large variety of good spirits and beers.Perfect for a high quality dinner. Definitely I'll come back.

Visited Bread Street Kitchen last night for some after dinner drinks. Welcomed by the lovely Patricia on reception and shown to our table. Taylor and Jack on the bar were fantastic and very attentive. Had a lovely time and will definitely return. Warm, relaxed atmosphere and brilliant service.

Just been to the relatively new Gordon Ramsay restaurant Bread Street Kitchen in St Andrews Square, Edinburgh and definitely wasn't disappointed. Great food and very attentive and efficient staff. Good place to go for a relaxing dinner with nice atmosphere. Hope it does well and good luck to Eduardo and staff.
J. T.
Food was good along with speed of service at a reasonable price for a Gordon Ramsay joint. Kudos to Robin D. Our server. Some of the friendliest service we have ever had.
L. R.
Great experience overall. Lovely and friendly staff, great cocktails menu, fabulous food (had steak tartare, cullen skink, crispy duck, poussin, mash, carrots and chips) and not bad for prices as well. Enjoyed it very much.
M. k.
Absolutely amazing birthday and anniversary meal. Food was out of this world. Service from Alessio was fantastic and so attentive. He surprised me at the end of our meal with a little brownie with a candle in it and the words Happy Birthday written in chocolate. This was our first visit to Edinburgh and what an impression it has left on us with wonderful memories. Thank you so much.
W. L. L. W. S.
Best night out in my live( when it comes to culinary experiences).Worth every penny. My wife, who doesn't like steak, was delighted.
M. A.
We had a wonderful Anniversary celebration tonight. Thanks to Waheed who was our waiter tonight. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made our night out that much more special
l. c.
Fantastic service and superb meal. The beef wellington was an experience in its self.only criticism would be very limited dessert choice.
K. B.
This place serves gastro pub level food but is sadly incredibly overpriced and disappointing. We came for the Beef Wellington Experience, which was a cocktail and three courses priced at £150 for 2 people (£112.50 for us as bought on discount in advance). The starter sharer was pretty nice, with tuna tartare, cullen skink, and bbq wings. Sadly the feature dish - the beef Wellington - is what let the whole thing down. The filet at the centre was beautiful and cooked perfectly, but the casing had a rather funky flavour and the pastry was tight and overdone. It was not at all the lovely buttery flakey pastry that I’d expect of a Wellington. I will say the dessert sharing board was tasty and I enjoyed the variety. The central dessert was a chocolate fondant, which had a perfectly gooey core (would be embarrassing if it didn’t), accompanied by a variety of ice creams and a lovely cranachan cheese cake. The dessert was definitely the best part of the meal. The service was also great.
In short, I would not recommend the beef Wellington experience. This place maybe has an ok normal menu, and I’d bet they serve a pretty good burger, but after this experience I would not go back, nor would I recommend anyone else to go. Price wise there are just far too many other restaurants in Edinburgh with much more delicious and creative food for this place to have a leg to stand on. This restaurant is priced in the same league as these other restaurants (e.g. Timberyard, Aizle, Six by Nico, Noto, etc) but the food was nowhere near them. I am sad to say I regret visiting this restaurant - it was not worth it and we left disappointed. Service gets 5 stars, food & atmosphere gets 3, prices get 2. Not recommended.
G. P.
Very nice restaurant in centre of City, staff very warm and great service, food was presented and tasted marvellous!
D. G.
Excellent food and service. The staff really make the difference here. I would highly recommend this place. Dogs allowed is also a great point to mention also.
黃.
The best dish is mashed potatoes. The two slices of beef Wellington closed to the sides were overcooked, which was a bit let down. The rest dishes were just average… Definitely overpriced. The Ramsays gin cocktail were not very tasty, and we were gutted about that.
Service was great while the it was a bit too noisy inside.
H. P.
Absolutely amazing the food was out of this world and the staff were so helpful and friendly
K. R. S.
Amazing service! Giorgia the host is very charming, friendly and kind. She gave us the best table in the restaurant next to the window! Our server Michelle was very attentive and kind. The food was delicious, everything was fresh and tasty, the ambience is nice and the service in general is fantastic.
Z. T.
All the food was great, the service was phenomenal. Slightly pricey but that is to be expected. You definitely get the experience you pay for.
R. A. B.
Great dinner experience.
The food was delicious and well prepared. The presentation was also a top one.
Happy to have experienced something that came from Gordon Ramsay's mind.
R. K.
Great food, really nice and attentive staff. Definitely coming back.
M. M.
Great restaurant, delicious food and excellent service. We went there for lunch and we cannot fault it at all. We both had the dry-aged beef burgers with Koffman's fries and a portion of honey roast carrots on the side. Everything was delicious and freshly cooked to perfection. All staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. It's not a cheap place but it strikes the right balance between a higher-end place serving excellent fresh food and a relaxed casual atmosphere. We paid just over £51 for 2 soft drinks, 2 mains and a side order. The bill also included an optional service charge which we didn't mind paying at all. We'd definitely recommend this place and we will visit again.
G. M.
This is a must go to place. My son and daughter in law treated me for my 70th birthday, and it is a meal I will remember for all the right reasons. I had my first Beef Wellington and don't think that I will try it anywhere else in case it's not as good, it tasted amazing. We were at a table close to the kitchen and could see the chefs preparing the meals and the care they take in each meal. The staff were also excellent. Definitely recommend. I will be back.
K. M.
The tamarind wings are so so good. How do they make them crispy and fall apart tender at the same time? Delicious. Please bring this restaurant to the USA. Menu was slightly different than London location. Absolutely loved the beef wellington, flakey sea salt on top, huge portion. Beef tartar was very cold (my preference) and very tasty. Enjoyed the experience right near the open kitchen.
L. W.
Staff were very friendly. Food tasted amazing and very filling. Everything was done to perfection.
K. N.
Beef Wellington was great with sauce. Loved the carrot and mashed potato sides.

Second time we have eaten here and have nothing but positive experiences, the food, atmosphere and in particular the staff are excellent and make your experience all the better.
General manager Alex and his staff provide a customer service that went above and beyond what I expected and we can’t wait to return.
The beef Wellington is well worth the visit alone!
Keep up the good work.
L. W.
Brilliant experience. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant we were greeted with a friendly atmosphere and given a kids pack for the young one.
Server Pablo was incredible throughout the whole service and went the extra mile for everyone at the table (11 of us). Great food, friendly and fast service I would definitely recommend for a brilliant meal with the family. Thank you team
D. C.
Great food, great service, great ambience. Such a gorgeous night at Gordon Ramsay Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. Beef wellington lives up to the expectations. Beautiful colour on the beef, excellent composition of mushroom duxelle and the brie mash potatoes are just 👌👌. On point for this one. Spicy tuna tartare and wonton crackers complements the dish very well. Top notch dining.
J. M.
A fantastic experience from the moment we walked through the door. First class service and the Beef Wellington is absolutely delicious! We'll be back.
S. B.
The service, food & drinks were great, BUT I think the food is overpriced for what you are getting - fine dining prices for pub food with a twist.
S. P.
Phenomenal! The food and service were top notch! We came on a nine day vacation to Scotland and ate at the best restaurants but this restaurant was the Best for sure. I recommend the Steak and for starters the kale salad and roasted pepper soup. The sommelier was very professional and we enjoyed excellent wine as well. Thank you Gordon Ramsey🙏🏻
D. S.
AMAZING customer service from Edwardo and Kyle, we had the best evening and food! We hadn't planned our evening so well (End of last year) and after having mistakenly booked somewhere else down the road that we were turned away from, we stumbled upon this place quite later in the evening, when the kitchen had closed (super annoying I know from our behalf) but Edwardo greeted us and said he would check/see what he could do. We were then overjoyed when we were seated and treated wonderfully. We were blown away by how amazing everyone was. The knowledge on the menu and food recommendations were perfect. Truly wonderful people with great character and next level customer service. The food and atmosphere were also brilliant. Would highly recommend and visit again. Thank you Edwardo and Kyle for looking after us.

Lovely interior, fantastic service and one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever eaten. Might be a little expensive but so are most places in Edinburgh.
D.
The food was great & amazing service. Really well trained staff & very Customer friendly. We enjoyed every meal we ordered to bits. The kids really enjoyed their meal too (which is not usual )
Would like to add a special mention to the staff who served us( Kyle, Angela & Michail)
V. M.
I mean, it’s okay. The burger tastes like a steak burger which was awesome but it’s nothing I haven’t had before and I could certainly make it myself. The pork belly was definitely tasty but I guess I just expected a lot more. The dessert and the service were the best parts!
D. W.
I love the food!!! It’s worth every penny that you spend 🤗 what a nice experience
C. C.
Super engaging team, made us feel welcome from start to finish. We asked for some help accommodating a fussy eater and it was no trouble at all. We had a lovely dinner and came away feeling special from the simple but attentive touches. We will be back over from Glasgow to visit again.
D. W.
Fantastic food, chicken wings and porterhouse steak, absolutely great. Very attentive service and well laid out restaurant
M. M.
We visited Gordon Ramsays new restaurant in Edinburgh today for my 30th Birthday. To start we got the chicken wings which where reallys tasty and would highly recomend.
The main we ordered the beef wellington medium rare however when it arrived it was pretty much well done so we where really disappointed with this as it took around 45 minutes to come and costs £100 so would expect this to be perfect for the cost when we complained about this we where advised we would have to wait a further 45 minutes for a new one so decided to get the steaks which where good but nothing special.
I felt David the manager did handle the situation very well as he was quick to rectify the problem and he also deducted the cost of the steaks and the wellington from the bill and could not be more apologetic for the error.
If the beef wellington had been cooked to our liking I would of scored 5 star today as the service was outstanding but the food was ok.
D. K.
The service was fantastic. The steaks we ordered however were not. We ordered the aged ribeye and they were overdone and just kind of bland. Very disappointed. I wish had gotten the hamburger instead like my husband did because he thoroughly enjoyed it. We saved this restaurant to eat at on our last night in Scotland. I just wish the food had lived up to the rest of the restaurant experience with the staff.
S.
Really nice. The food was good as were the drinks. The food isn't what makes this place stand out though. The colleagues in this place are exemplary and are 100% the reason I'll be back. So attentive, friendly and nice. Excellent service from the minute we walked in the door.
V. G.
Superb, everything was spot from the staff to the food.Everybody was professional and very efficient. We had the best stakes ever we had tasted but most of all well done the Mr.Ramsay for the spot and his team to make it happen. We'd defo will comeback👏👏👏
Dominica and the host lady defo need to be recognised👌

Staff 10/10
Venue 10/10
Price 2/10
Food 7/10
Price being the big issue, there are other restaurants in Edinburgh 25% less expensive and equally good. I don’t think I can find another venue that sells drinks that expensive. If you charge those prices you need to bring something special to the table and this doesn’t.
A. T.
A wonderful restaurant, with mouthwatering and refined dishes. The super nice and caring staff make you feel at home. The open kitchen is a sight to behold, the chefs are very good. Thank you very much, we will be back with great pleasure.
C.
I went for Valentine's day this year with my wife and had an amazing time. The staff are just perfect, the food was perfect, and the service fantastic. Further, the price is very reasonable. I will definitely be back as a frequent customer.

Lovely food and service , Paulo the waiter service was tremendous would recommend
G. P.
Paulo from Portugal went above and beyond to make our evening at Bread Street enjoyable and memorable! Our glasses were never empty and the food delicious. We will be back for sure! Keep up the great work Paulo 👏
B. C.
What a wonderful evening! The service was outstanding, relaxed atmosphere, great vibe, myself and my family said we cannot remember the last time we had service like this. The food was amazing , a table of 6 and we all had the same superb experience. Our son who is 4 was with us also and he loved the food and his own little colour in pack upon arrival, Well done 👏
W. J.
The food was amazing, interesting and beautifully served. Can't argue about portion size, as we were full at the end. Two of us got ourselves single steak tartare, pork belly and celeriac steak.
Atmosphere inside was fantastic, and service professional, made us feel exceptionally welcome, thanks to Waheed - I wish everyone a service like this!
We will surely be back to try other dishes from the menu!
s. d.
Top service, our server kyle went above and beyond. Bobby another server was top notch also. The food and cocktails were amazing, the staff were the cherry ontop, couldn't fault the meal from start to finish.
E. G.
Expected more under Gordon Ramsay name, good experience overall but unfortunately not wow factor
J. p.
I was very hopeful on this location to carry the Gordon Ramsay name wel, unfortunately i left very disappointed, Let me start off with, the staff were incredible they were attentive, nice on their game. When it came to the some of the food that's where things started falling apart the haggis bites were delicious, we ordered the beef Wellington it took a bit to get an expected but issues there we had a nice drink as we waited. The plate came out it looked beautiful, as soon as we eating we noticed something off, the bread was crusty but the meat tasted like it was charred or burnt. Then the mashed potatoes was like eating rock salt with mashed potatoes, i informed the manager had the chef taste it they agreed too much salt so we had a new bowl..less salty still overdone. The vegetables were delicious no seasoning. Overall for the cost it wasn't worth it. I hope Ramsay goes in and looks over what's coming out of his kitchen. We thought it was just us until we asked a local chef what Wellington is supposed taste like the way he described it wasn't what we had.
J. K.
After a very professional welcome I was brought to my seat and after a short time I found myself in front of the Ayreshire Pork Belly and I ordered the broccoli and was guided by the waiter to try the fries instead of the creamed mash.
We have all had Pork Belly at some stage in our lives but this offering just knocked the hinges off the door and claimed the top nod from me. Seriously good!
Classic food done so well.
And if that doesn't do it.
I had the double espresso to check their coffee.
As with the Pork Belly and may I say the staff. A different level.
Great job Bread street. Cheers 👌👍
N. B.
Very attentive staff, amazing food and cocktails
O. B.
Checked OpenTable and they were showing plenty of availability (every 15 minutes slot for the next 2 hours). Walked in and were told there was a table but there'd be a 15 minute wait, welcome to grab a drink at the bar while we waited. 40 minutes later we asked when the table would be ready and it was clear they'd completely forgotten. Eventually shown to a table, then it took 25 minutes to take our order. In the end it took 3 hours to be served two courses.
Food was great when it eventually arrived, but service is so relaxed it was comatose.
L. S.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, lovely food. Good for family dinners 2 story big place! Hart of town Edinburgh. Not cheap restaurant, but you get quality.
D. L.
Excellent service attentive accurate really well trained. Food average my friend enjoyed the steak my wife's chichen curry was nothing to write home about. Burgers were tasteless. Our first time here don't think we'll be back. An underwhelming overpriced experience for nothing really that great.
P. J.
We had a great experience, I would highly recommend to be seated in Waheed section. He is what is what made the experience so great with his fun interactions with our table. He also was so accommodating to our table’s needs 10/10
D.
We ordered a burger and a wellington, they were both very nice. I also ordered a macaroni side, the garlic crumbs on top ruined it and did not taste good. The actual macaroni was nice. Prices are a bit much when I’ve had the same quality elsewhere for cheaper. The berry blast mocktail was great, weirdly the actual cocktails did not catch my eye at all.
The mens toilets upstairs. I went in and the cubicles were in a state. There was a great big Jobby in one with a load of toilet paper everywhere. Not the restaurant’s fault but a good bit later I went back and the mess was still there indicating they don’t get cleaned or checked often by staff which was a let down when I paid a lot for the food etc.. The service by staff was generally good and I couldn’t fault it otherwise.
Overall I did enjoy being there so I will give 4 stars. I will visit again but hopefully it will be jobby free next time.

To start off, I'm a huge Gordon Ramsey fan and was very excited to try this place out.
The Good:
-Good drink selection
-Service was outstanding. Can't remember his name, but he was native to Portugal and was fantastic. Very friendly and conversational.
-Has a good selection of food, including the iconic Wellington
-Very cool restaurant design
The Bad:
-The food was simply not at par for the price. When spending $130~ ($65~pp) on no-more-than 10oz of meat, some potatoes, and a salad, you're expecting something excellent. It wasn't bad, but lacked a significant level of meat flavor and 'wow factor'. You can spend a $200 dinner (including drinks, apps, etc.) at much better places in Edinburgh.
Verdict:
-Ramsey fans, save your appetite for another one of his spots. This place isn't it.
S. M.
We was served by Waheed who was extremely helpful and attentive. He gave us a warm and friendly welcome, when ordering our food he went through the menu and gave excellent suggestions. We was more than happy with his service. Thank you
J. K.
Delicious. Also, the staff handled a large group (30ish) extremely well, with all the food being hot and well timed, and the drinks never got empty for long. Had a fun night, and the ribeye was fantastic.
S. G.
Fantastic family dinner. Everything was so good! Appetizers, mains and desserts tasted great! Superb, attentive service from Dominika! Thank you for the special treatment and thoughtful and much appreciated pre and post meal treats!
M. M.
Food was lovely. Had to remind waiter we were waiting half an hour for our main meal. Didn't even offer us a complimentary glass of wine!!! Not impressed at all😡
A. T.
Visiting here from the states and have watched a lot of shows with Gordon Ramsey, the food was good but the steak was amazing. Had a beef wellington as well and the ribeye was hands down the best. Very nice place and friendly staff.

Really enjoyed our experience here, staff was super friendly especially our server for the night Waheed who looked after us very well. Food was delicious and the view from our table was beautiful. Highly recommend

This is my new spot for food in Esinburgh. Table for 4 and no matter what was asked April and Rayne had the answers. Is the beef locally bred? Yes along with other meats and locally grown. Beautiful experience.

Evening meal was very pleasant and the service was impeccable.
Great food.
Highly recommended 5* 💯

We had an easy meal here yesterday our Starters of spicy chicken wings and duck salad were very good setting us up nicely for our main courses
My wife had canaloni which she enjoyed but my House Burger was probably the worst burger I have had in a while the meat was so dry and tasteless I had to wash it down with water the
lettuce was all mushy and there was a very fine line of Mayo on it at the price £20.50 with the Streaky bacon I would have expected a lot more
I could imagine Gordon Ramsay picking up the lettuce and saying what the F___ is that and poking the Burger and making a face if he was on one of his shows the sweets were fine and we would go back but I would expect top quality after spending £170.00 for 2 people

Visited a couple of days ago. Told my host that I was running on clock and was met with the speediest service from both Emma and Paolo. They were fantastic at recommendations as the cocktails were tasty. All three courses went down very well and I was very impressed with the quality of food and flavour. I would highly recommend this place as the food is top notch and all of the servers are very attentive.
Bravo.

Was my first trip to one of Gordon’s restaurants and wasn’t disappointed. Food was fabulous only surpassed by our waiter Wahid who couldn’t have been any more attentive. Would go back and highly recommend
A. B.
Incredible. Thought we'd see if it lived up to Gordon Ramsays reputation and it completely surpasses expectation. Valentines menu was delicious and service was impeccable. Worth every penny.
R. A.
Wow what an amazing place food is so on point its off the charts get you're selfs here now
T. R.
We stopped here without a reservation on a very busy Saturday night in Edinburgh, but finding a table for us was not a problem. We were seated in a table for two in the window on the 1st floor with a great view of the street scene. We ordered two cocktails, and a bowl of Cullen Skink as a starter. Delivery to the table was prompt and the tastes excellent. We went on to order Cod in red wine and lemon sauce and the Caesar salad with avocado.
Again the quality was superb, and we both agreed the taste, textures and quantity were definitely worthy of the Gordon Ramsay brand.
We added two more drinks and dessert to the order, the fruit carpaccio and Cranachan cheesecake. Both were light and refreshing.
As we close the tab to leave, we learned that the restaurant had only opened the previous evening, and that the staff were still in training mode. It really didn’t show, with no unwanted delay, and excellent service all round. Congratulations to all on what was for us a fantastic dinner on your 2nd night!
M. D.
Very good food, (Mac n cheese side dish was really good), and beverages, which is what you expect. Super service from the staff. Just a bit on the expensive side.

WOW! We came here for my boyfriend’s birthday and we had a fantastic time, not only the food was superb and totally affordable, but also Alessio (our waiter) made our day being so friendly yet professional.
We would also rate the atmosphere and the upbeat music a 5/5. We will definitely be back.
Thank you again.
J. C.
Food was nice but a little too rich. It was very loud music do struggled to hear each other and had to get torches out to read menu in the dim light. Expensive for what we got and the atmosphere
L. K.
Was really looking forward to this. The food was very good, particularly the crispy duck salad. Good service from our waiter. Our table was not great. Right next to the kitchen so very noisy. Added to that the level of the music was off the scale loud. Given that the customer age range in the restaurant was from 6 months to 70 and everything in between there was no need to feel you were in a nightclub at 6.30 in the evening. I will try it again as the food was very good but they need to get this right as there are too many good restaurants in Edinburgh.
R. E.
Great location, service and atmosphere for sure. However……..we ordered the signature dish Beef Wellington which has to be ordered for 2 x people. The Wellington was pretty good although I have had better for less ££ if I am being honest. My biggest issue though was it was pre cut into 5 slices…….for 2 x people !!!!! Who in the name of all things culinary thought an odd number was the best idea for a “sharing only” dish ????? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when that was pitched. I thought it was maybe just ours and a clumsy sous chef with particularly poor math skills but all the Wellingtons I saw came out prepared the same way. I would LOVE to know Mr Rs thoughts on this as I would genuinely be interested.

Table of 9. Our server, Paulo, was exceptional. Very attentive, made solid recommendations and was extremely personable. Food, as expected, was delicious. Highly recommend Bread Street Kitchen!
H. Y.
Service was flawless, food was extrodonary. Duck salad was probably the best thing I have ever tasted in my life. Cocktails were delicious, everything tasted fresh.....very fresh. My partner was served fish and chips, I got the burger - words can describe how perfect both dishes were. Will definitely come back here again.
B.
This is my new spot for food in Esinburgh. Table for 4 and no matter what was asked April and Rayne had the answers. Is the beef locally bred? Yes along with other meats and locally grown. Beautiful experience.
l. o.
Butter chicken was tasteless and watery didn’t eat most of it. Informed staff but was still charge for it. Disappointed. As everything else we ordered was excellent.
H. C.
My partner and I love eating out and so were eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant. We got a table for a Sunday evening dinner and we were definitely not disappointed! The service was absolutely flawless from start to finish, the restaurant itself is modern with classic touches and the ambience is just right. Coming onto the food itself- I literally cannot fault it! For starters The haggis bites were high quality and the duck was cooked perfectly and so flavourful. For the main we ordered the beef Wellington. This took a while to come as the chef was not happy with the first one made, however the staff kept us updated and provided us with complimentary grazing food while we waited. The beef Wellington was well worth the wait! One of the most tender meat dishes I have ever had and the sides were absolutely perfect. This place is an asset to Edinburgh dining and I cannot wait to return
V. D.
We arrived 20 minutes early and were asked if we wanted to have a drink at the bar - no problem. No one came near so I stood at the bar and was blatantly ignored. I went to the greeter and asked how we got a drink. She said she would send someone over. We ordered 2 glasses of champagne and were given glasses of water. They did apologise for the delay. Just as we got the water they moved us to our table. The champagne got lost and it was a while before we got them.
The menu and the food were very nice. The server was lovely and looked after us well. The restaurant was extremely dark - ask for a window table if you book. The wine list is actually expensive and doesn’t have many known wines. The cheapest is £30 and it was very average.
I really would not rush back. We have so many really nice restaurants in Edinburgh. Some actually on bread Street!
j. b.
Had a fantastic experience at the bread kitchen from walking through the door our table for two was fantastic I started with a lady regent cocktail then a crispy duck salad my partner had the Caesar salad both delicious then we shared the beef wellington cooked to perfection not rushed even though it was early Saturday evening we then moved down stairs to the bar area for another couple of drinks great surroundings great staff we traveled from Lancashire and will definitely do it again thanks to all for a fantastic day .
M. L.
I am not going to Bore you with Pictures of my meal.
Instead of looking at the reviews BOOK this restaurant it was Lovely and the food was 1st class, the Macaroni Cheese with Garlic Crumb has to be the best i have tasted EVER. Waiter and maître d couldn't have been more welcoming. Thank you for a great evening meal.
J. Z.
Wee bit over priced, but l did enjoy my meal 😋
The wine prices were ridiculous, you could buy
Same brand from majestic wine 🍷 and Tesco
For a fraction of the price .Still l suppose Gordon
needs to keep up his reputation as a top chef ,with top price's.
Ps: l wonder what he pays his staff 🤔 ( min rate )??

Extraordinary, literally.
After some truly depressing experience at the Loch Fyne, we urgently needed a pick up. My mum and dad were having a walk in the area late at night when my dad noticed the Bread Street restaurant. Sure, Gordon cannot disappoint! After a quick glance at the menu, they got in and a very kind waitress booked a table for the next afternoon. This was to be a surprise for me! For years, I had been looking for tasting the world famous Wellington Beef, so I will let you imagine my excitement when I entered the premises. It's totally wheelchair accessible, step-free. The deco is smooth and elegant, but most of all the staff are super cool, knowledgeable, educated. Then the food arrives, and it's like a revelation! My dad and I focused on the meaty side of the menu, my mum on the greens and fish. Veg side dishes for all. The food was so fresh, pristine, straight to the point. Good stuff.
Leaving the Bread Street felt slightly like my first heartbreak, having to return to an ordinary reality temporarily hidden by those heavy velvet curtains, however, this time the experience galvanised us, getting us ready for a long road trip through Scotland, under its magnificent night sky.
C. M.
Average experience at best. Had the Sunday roast. Potatoes were quite blatantly reheated, the rest was as said, average. Staff appeared to lack experience. Won't be rushing back with the wealth of alternatives within a few minutes.
L. M.
Rocked up Saturday evening 7.45pm without a booking and got a table for 10 straight away.. visiting from Sydney and catching up with friends, this was the perfect place to have a few beers, prosecco or cocktails.. Service was excellent and the staff professional and always accommodating, will definitely return on our next visit to Edinburgh!
C. 1.
Mouth watering food (and eye-watering prices)
We arrived for lunch and were shown to a table upstairs with a pleasant view of the square. We skipped starters and both went for the cod with an artichoke etc sauce. Although it said crushed potatoes this could apply simply to something thickening the sauce (which it did) so I ordered some truffle brie mash potato as a side. To drink, we both had one glass of prosecco.
Firstly, the cod was stunning. A large, thick, cod steak, perfectly cooked and quite substantial. The sauce, which contained capers, wine and lemon flavour was cleverly balanced — a tiny error in the ingredients would have made it too acidic and all in all it was an impressive combination, worthy of Ramsay’s reputation.
The mash was less to my taste, rather dry.
The sweets selection, basically fruit and ice cream, appealed to me rather less. My partner however had some mixed fruits with a blob of ice cream in the middle and it looked quite delicious (carpaccio of pineapple arranged in waves with pieces of kiwi and a sprinkle of passion fruit). I settled for an espresso, which was ok but not the best.
Service and ambience was rather mixed. The window seat was nice but freezing cold by the time the espresso arrived. (I mentally noted that the view from Harvey Nicks across the square is better, as, in my opinion, is the service, and with a much warmer, welcoming atmosphere.) One of the persons serving us proudly displayed his loud and blustery Glaswegian accent. Is this a tourist attraction?? Personally I found it more of an intrusion. No-one offered to get our coats — one has to take the plastic card downstairs and ask at the entrance. That’s not a problem, but again added to the impression that nobody really cares that much.
The bill came to a few pennies short of £80 for a fairly meagre lunch for two. Not that extortionate, but I wasn’t full, and apart from a nice piece of fish much less impressed than at Gordon’s Heathrow establishment. One can dine in style or cheap & cheerful, but even with the prime location, Gordon’s confusingly named Bread St restaurant - that’s apparently named after Bread St London not Bread St of Edinburgh’s Theatreland — is interesting mid-range lunch at upper class prices.

What a amazing experience.
From the second we walked through the door, to the minute we left!
Cocktail and drinks selection is brilliant.
We had the Love Potion and the BB cocktails.
We ordered a couple of nibbles as we opted for the Beef Wellington, which has a 45 minute lead time.
It is however well worth the wait. The fillet literally melted in your mouth and cooked to perfection.
Served with a creamy mash, salad and a red wine jus.
Desserts were just as exceptional!
Pineapple and kiwi carpaccio, passion fruit, lime, coconut sorbet
Monkey Shoulder cranachan cheesecake, raspberry sorbet
All round first class experience. From the waiting team to the chefs.
We will be back in the future.
M. O.
Evening meal was very pleasant and the service was impeccable.
Great food.
Highly recommended 5* 💯
B. C.
Waheed was our waiter and he was so wonderful. Really enjoyed our experience....the food...and Ramsay’s new Gin❤️
C. B.
Spectacular service, fantastic food and carefully crafted cocktails!!
Can't wait to come back!!!
C. J.
Without a doubt the best food I've ever eaten. Memories made. Service was absolutely excellent. Faultless staff. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
P. G.
Superb from start to finish, welcomed on entry and looked after superbly from our waiter, sat upstairs lovely view over the square, food was superb and lived up to expectations, will definitely return.
C. M.
Enjoyed a fabulous dinner here, including the signature Beef Wellington, which was superb. Delicious cocktails and a good selection of excellent wines, available by the glass. Service from Bobby, Alessio and sommelier, Roberto, was first class. The restaurant was absolutely buzzing - a great atmosphere.
D. M.
Excellent meal and amazing service. All food was as good as we expected and the staff were equally as good. Our only criticism if anything would be our table location. Which was behind the door in the corner which wasnt great.
D. R.
Beautiful view over St Andrews Square, warm relaxing atmosphere, delicious sensibly priced food and staff who take pride in what they do. Best table service I've experienced, anywhere, ever.......
J. E.
Disappointed with the service! We ordered drinks at the bar as we were early but they took ages to come over. Once we got to the table we were kept waiting about 20 minutes to have our order taken. We had to ask one of the hosts who just sat down another table that we had been waiting. A manager came over who was very apologetic and gave us a round of drinks which was nice. The food we had was ok. We really enjoyed the starters. We ordered some bread and I wanted more butter, asked for some more but never arrived. I had the Chicken Wings and my wife had Duck Salad. For mains we both had the burger which was ok. Nothing special and lacked flavour. The Koffman chips were lovely!
We had a few meals In Edinburgh all which were far superior to this place. We saved this restaurant for our final night so we felt really let down by it. We did however have an amazing stay in Edinburgh.
K. B.
Great for a drink. We didn't eat here but even at the busiest time the staff could always find a table for us. Great staff!
N. A.
We had an easy meal here yesterday our Starters of spicy chicken wings and duck salad were very good setting us up nicely for our main courses
My wife had canaloni which she enjoyed but my House Burger was probably the …
S. O.
Absolutely insane.... Flavours were out this world
D. L.
The service was excellent. I had the burger which unfortunately was not cooked fully. So was unable to
finish it . Was offered a free sweet. Not sure if I would hurry back.
P. Z.
Amazing service. Delicious food
J. S. (.
Absolutely fantastic experience, service was lovely, greeted by every member of staff who came past. Food was excellent, no complaints about any part of the whole journey!
M. C.
Very relaxed ambience, service was great and food was excellent. Glad to have dined in this classy restaurant.
O. H.
Outstanding from start to finish.
Food tasted amazing. Haggis balls& wings for starter followed by sirloin steaks cooked to perfection full flavoured. Truffle mash. Everything tasted amazing. Staff were outstanding 100%. Will defiantly be back. Keep up the good work.
c. a.
Went to Bread Kitchen tonight and the service was outstanding! Very welcoming staff and the food was delicious. Couldn’t fault the whole experience. Even gave us a special window table view with a surprise brownie for my birthday. Definitely will be back!!
G. Q.
My self and my wife were at the restaurant last night lovely atmosphere a little dark lovely food service fantastic and the manager deducted the price of her meal because she did not feel very well before we arrived at the restaurant and could not eat her meal nothing to do with the food which was excellent going to try the beef wellington next time thank you all for a lovely experience
n. g.
Bill was 295 pounds the quality was outstanding however I would like to mention that the 3pounds dribble of sauce you get given is not value for money. Another gripe was my daughter was set on a Gordon Ramsay burger however This was not available on the children's menu. the level of service was incredible. Room for improvement
A. C.
It was a great experience, amazing food (especially Tuna tartare and the exquisite T-Bone meat), delicious cocktails and nice atmosphere. We were greeted by Simona upon arrival and she was very kind to accommodate us in a great table with a view. Worth the visit 100%
S. N.
Had a bite to eat and a wine today. Service was super and staff were very friendly and not overly attentive, which suits me fine. Cullen skink was so tasty, butter that came with the bread had some salt on top, brilliant as I love salty butter. Only downside I had a piece of mussle shell in the skink hence the 4⭐. Don't let it put you off trying it though as it's one of the nicest I have tasted. Oh and the wine was fab
J. B.
Fantastic lunch with my family. Service was exceptional and the food was sublime....had the best pint of IPA I've ever had ....my family and I visited edingburgh for the Christmas market, the city is gorgeous and Gordon's restaurant enhances its charm ...first class service from all .
F. G.
The food was amazing and service. The only downside was that the steak was bland... However I tried my wife's fish and that impressed me.
M. M. S.
The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful the food is obviously amazing, there were a few mishaps but it was absolutly fine in the end, cannot thank Kyle enough he was really funny and kind, could not do enough for my husband and I he is fantastic! The rest of the staff we're also very professional and helped us feel very welcome, thank you all for the great experience.
S. D.
New restaurant from Gordon Ramsay, his first restaurant in Edinburgh, very good food, service to match and nice views of Saint Andrew square
a. b.
Amazing food and service. Beef Wellington just melted in your mouth. Puddings a triumph. Well done Bread Sreet!
D. J.
One of the best dining experiences ever, absolutely loved the food, service, staff and atmosphere. Can't wait to come back.
A. S.
You r always gonna have high expectations from a Ramsay joint, this does not disappoint the food and drink was fabulous....but the service was literally out of this world, super friendly, super helpful..... genuinely by the end of the night I could have asked the guys and girls who were serving us to join us for a drink as they were such an integral part of our experience.
N. M.
First time in. Best service ever by Paulo. Made sure we were looked after as soon as we arrived. Food was amazing and was really busy xxxx
A. B.
Good food, do not hesitated to come here 😍
w. g.
My wife and I went today 20.12.21. I had sirloin steak that I enjoyed my wife had equivalent of a chicken salad that cost overall with sides £31, in total £98. My male server was better suited to working in the Barras when he brought my beer with the comment 'hears ur pint big yin' supported by comments such as 'here's the spoon for your soup mate', here's some good Edinburgh water I poured it oot the tap masel, and so it went on. The customers behind my wife and I were not subjected to the same banter. I did not expect this banter at this restaurant
F. K.
Really enjoyed it & they were very accommodating to our Guide Dog puppy in training.
C. W.
Absolutely amazing experience for partners birthday
Food 100% amazing great taste, staff really friendly
Brought out a pudding at the end for partner with it been his birthday
M. C.
It’s early days for this restaurant but they really need to iron out the problems quickly
This would be a kitchen nightmare for Gordan if he had our experience
I felt that a number of items had been pre-cooked due most likely to over booking the restaurant meaning staff and chefs under pressure
Some items were nice some very poor, dried up and tasteless
Presentation of food was not what you would expect either
Hope they get things sorted quickly as they are charging premium prices for a basic high street chain product
F. P.
The staff are super friendly, the place itself looks amazing and the food is an experience in itself, especially the Wellington!
K. J.
Had an amazing time, Kasia delivered exceptional service, very pleasant, cheerful and bright person made our lunch time even more joyful, the food was extraordinary especially chicken wings, left me speachless 😁 Would recommend to anyone ! 👍🏻
M. S.
Fab food. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Lived watching the chefs in the open kitchen. Not sure why head chef was on his phone so much???
N. N. G.
We booked a table near the window, they promised us to give one, finally they gave the worst table in the whole restaurant... then we asked to give as a table near the window when it’ll be available, THREE tables where available and no once offered us anything! Disgraceful!!
i. M.
I had a curry: lovely! I went there for dinner with my husband and we quite enjoyed a romantic dinner!

L. A.
Really nice food and not too expensive!
The area is lovely, the staff is friendly and nice, and there is enough variety to suit everyone.
Taking into account the quality of the dishes, this place is not expensive at all!
B. W.
Great food and environment.
What need to be noticed is that the price of Wellington is written as “per person& for 2” = 49 x2 instead of 49 as we thought before getting the bill. Although I did not read the price correctly, It’s already written in the menu and it still worth it. Satisfied and I’ll revisit this restaurant.
M. A. M.
A really great place to eat, the ambience of the restaurant is just right really pleasant staff and although the prices were a little high for us we still went there 3 times.
D. Y.
Food was excellent but general service was poor. Table not ready when we arrived so had to buy drink at bar, had to ask for table water, waiter asked what we wanted to order when I wasn't at table, not asked if we wanted wine. Probably would eat elsewhere in future.

(Translated) We ordered a salad, a ribs age and for dessert a selection of Scottish cheeses with a sauce that was spectacular and some typical cookies. The cheesecake was different and peculiar.
The menu and the selection of the restaurant with a high quality really shows, not only does it have a great chef putting his name but the people who work it strive to offer a good service.

Pedimos una ensalada,un ribs age y de postre una seleccion de quesos escoceses con una salsa q estaba espectacular y unas galletas tipicas.el cheesecake era distinto y peculiar.
