Tasty food, reasonable price, good service. I had the carnivore burger, which was very filling. Cocktails were mostly ice, which was a bit disappointing - I'd recommend sticking to cider if you want a sweet alcoholic drink. We decided to come here because it was a little bit out of the way from the centre and quieter. Service was friendly and quick. I would recommend this place to couples/groups of friends. If you use Google maps to get there, it can be a bit confusing because it can lead you to a restaurant on the bridge above it! There's some steps around the corner to get down to it from here.

Me and the misses went here on a whim and were not disappointed at all. The food was lovely, well presented and flavourful. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. If you are in Edinburgh and want some nice robs and chicken don't hesitate!

Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming, friendly staff but the food and drinks are a bit of a let down. They offered a selection of £5 cocktails which was great but my old fashioned was watery and my partners cosmopolitan was indeed very small as stated in other reviews but fine for the price. We both ordered the “southern” burger - the portion of chips was very small but very tasty and the wing pinned to the top of the burger was so very heavily over seasoned, it was like sawdust. Fortunately the burger itself was very good but overall not worth the £13.

The food was tasty enough, the setting is very loud almost like a sports bar. The staff are busy but friendly. The food is over priced . A steak at twenty something for a but it was cooked well and had flavour with a tiny salad and chips. I enjoyed it but it is not the kind of place i would frequent or write home about.

With a name like carnivore I expected a menu packed with meaty dishes and while I wasn't disappointed at the meat available I was a little disappointed that the menu wasn't a little more exciting. That being said after ordering one of the sharing platters I wish there had been an extra person at the table as we struggled and ultimately failed to eat the amount of food brought to us. Avoid the cocktails, especially the Iron Man which definitely looks nothing like it's namesake

Great food! Got a sharing platter and managed to swap out one of the sides for another and the staff were very accommodating. Nice atmosphere, decent drinks (could be stronger).

Really good steak here, quick service and friendly staff. Were happy to make me a cocktail not on the menu. Really good gluten free and dairy free options. Sweet potato fries were delicious!

I'm glad I took a look at the menu, this place turned out to be a vegetarian's delight! The Mike Tyson burger was great, a cauliflower patty with just the right amount of kick (Sriracha aioli and jalapenos) and the other options looked decadent and tasty. My friend got the Mac and cheese fries. The grilled cheese was also delicious. Dessert got rave reviews. Definitely earned those five stars!

Great food, but staff took no owner ship of the mishap with booking. It's fine to blame someone else for an over booking but taking a bit of ownership for not being informed of this would have been appreciated. Blame a booking company is all grand bit if you're over booked it's then up to you to inform people. Rather than advising me to complain to the booking agent, complain yourself if it's such a common problem. Also was it a 100, 50 or 40 over booked as that seemed to vary. Other than that food was great compliments to the chef but service sub-par

The service was great, very friendly and welcoming but the food wasn't quite as good as hoped. The chicken burger was s bit on the greasy side (my partner had it) and the burger kept falling apart as I tried to eat it. The sweet potato fries were great though, and really nice drinks.

I just want to say thank you to the girl behind the bar with the black hair who checked me in & looked after me on 01/06/21. Myself and my husband ate here last night. I forgot to take pictures as I just dived in to the food but it was delicious! I had the Pork Belly with chive mash and then seasonal veg as a side. It was all beautifully cooked. The pork was so tender it just melted in my mouth. The mash was creamy and delicious and the veg was seasoned and cooked beautifully. My husband had fish and chips - the portion was huge and again cooked perfectly, crispy batter and soft fish. The staff were beyond helpful, even with our strange requests. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough and look forward to making it back soon!

I had the "carnivore burger". The filling was good, red onions,salad and tomato, the cheeses were flavoursome, however I felt a bit left down with the beef patties. They had a "ready meal" look and taste and were and not what I expected from a place that specialises in meat. The bun was slightly overdone on the grill. It's not bad at all but still a bit pricey for what it is in my opinion. 3/5.

Personal experience was really enjoyable. Nice selection of cocktails, draught beers. Not the usual suspects! We had a sharing platter and the kids had a burger and Mac & Cheese, plus desserts. Everybody enjoyed and left full. The menu is small but it doesn't take away. Atmosphere is nice and quiet, nothing in your face. The only slight issue my wife had was a bit chilly indoors. Otherwise would recommend and will be back again

Cannot fault anything. We went on a date night yesterday. We each had the Flank Steak & Peppercorn Sauce with bacon and sweet potato fries. Cooked to perfection, sauce nice touch with the pink peppercorns. Shared a beautiful dessert. Service was very attentive, friendly, approachable and discreet. Music not load and a cosy atmosphere. During the week they have a £5 cocktail offer and my Old Fashioned had a proper big single cube of ice. Prices are reasonable for city center and we will definitely return.

had a gift voucher to go there to the value of £24 each for a steak meal. thought that would be good as it allows for a £18 Steak and £6 side. on being told that the steak was a flank steak which I had never heard of before and I have worked in the butchery side and the waitress said the chef said it was quite tough only alternative was to pay £6 more to get a rib roast quite a cunning move by them Also there was a side at £6 of chips or chefs salad. so we paid for upgrade for better steak which was good to be fair however as there was two of us we shared a salad which consisted of rocket rocket and more rocket with a minute amount of radish and red onion and quite a small portion of chips which was good also included was a wine option but we asked to be changed to a soft drink option.. no problem there. staff very good and meal good only downside is the steak choice perhaps flank steak us another name for rump but don't think so three star for tasty food two off for hidden extras. it is more a pub than a restuarant and cocktails is a speciality of the place however did not order one but several other people did so must be good as about £9 a time not my scene as older generation but in heartland of swinging Edinburgh nightlife

The food is it the higher end (13 quid for a burger with no chips etc) surely they could afford adequate heating

Absolutely incredible. One of us got the Cubano, one got the Reuben and I got The Korean. We tried a bit of everyone's sandwiches and no-one could decide whos was best. They were all so good. Our other friend opted for a a steak cooked rare and it looked and also tasted incredible. This place really has it all. Fantastic cocktails, fantastic service and beyond unreal food. I think I've found my new favourite food joint in Edinburgh .
