Wednesday is wings day. We ordered special wings and Korean wings which I heard were the best item on the menu in here. Unfortunately, both wings were super salty and therefore it was difficult to eat them. The double cheeseburger was delicious and went along really well with the chips and sauce however the patty was a bit dry and cooked too well.

This Canadian themed bar is a nice little find on Leith Walk not far from the Playhouse (opposite side of road). Nice and friendly atmosphere (well it is the Canadian way 😄) and staff with good food at reasonable prices. Highly recommend the Buffalo Fries if ordering a side and the burgers and cheese steaks are also worth mentioning! 👍

Poutine!!! In the UK. Yes please. Best I've had outside Canada. Also had buffalo wings which were delicious, but... they were particularly salty. My tongue couldn't taste much else for about an hour afterwards. Great otherwise and hope it was just a one off case of over-enthusiasm with the seasoning.

This is new to me! Never tried this before, but glad we did. It's a Canadian themed place that burger with a meat based menu but with a slight twist that comes thru on the tasty food. The beer is different as well, we tried a peach IPA. Al in all, highly recommended, not to be missed, as I have done in the past and highly enjoyable 😀

The best American and Canadian classics you'll get in Scotland. Very reasonable price range this was actually on discount, it may be a lunchtime deal the savings where a lot so i recommends ordering at these times. If you're at omni center or the theatre for a show please get over here before or after a movie or show. Most if the places to eat in this area are pretty standard, down the hatch is many levels above the restaurants that are near it....many levels.

Came here on our last evening in Edinburgh. We wanted to try this place when last time we were here but didn't manage to fit it in. NOW WE WISH WE HAD! Down The Hatch interior is bright and different! The Staff are friendly and fun! Kasey was brilliant and nothing was a problem! Definitely a 10/10 waiter! And the food... The food is delicious! Get me a flight to Canada RIGHT NOW!

We have been to the SQ DTH on a number of occasions, and hasn't ever disappointed. We did lunch at the Antigua St restaurant during summer, and sat outside. Food was good, but didn't get the whole experience. Last night we sat inside for a friend's birthday, and it was absolutely top notch! The burgers were as usual, excellent. Cocktails and margaritas, amazing. Beef dip as a first try was unreal. Wings, again, awesome. And then we ended up getting our food for free courtesy of Mastercard and OpenTable! A great end to a great night! And the staff were outstanding! Really great service from friendly people. 👏

Previously I ordered take away from DTH and burgers were nothing special, but we all know food not always travel well. So decided to visit restaurant expecting much better quality. Burgers were definitely better sit in, but don't think worth a price. I'll come back for Korean wings, but burgers itself were just so so. Our food was served by very friendly and helpful staff. Very cool decor inside.

Great tasting burgers and chips and hits the mark as the high end burger joint. Decor is cool inside with Canadian memorabilia on the walls and a nice selection of beers on tap. The draw back is the noise in the back room and set up. Not much thought had gone into it. It could do with some booths to and change in set up to create an atmosphere. To be honest it’s not the kinda place you go for how it looks, the food is worth the trip alone. Definitely try the place, you won’t regret it.

First time at Antigua street DTH. Nice tunes and staff are very friendly. They even took 25% off our order for a voucher that we had actually left behind which we were very grateful for. I am confident the queensferry branch wouldn’t have done the same. The service was fast. They even catered for my very fussy wife. My brother and I ordered the Marinated Bavette steak which we loved and was very tasty. The only negative I would say was that the ciabatta was a bit soggy and didn’t feel very toasted as advertised. I also ordered the Korean wings which again were very nice and tender. However, they were drenched in sauce, leaving a big puddle. I should have ate my wings first and then dipped in my sandwich into the remaining sauce. My bro and sister-in law shared some poutine which they liked but, again, there was excessive gravy. My wife and sister-in law enjoyed their burgers. The chips that came with my wife’s burger didn’t appear to be anything particularly special, just pretty standard. Overall we were all satisfied with our visit to DTH. However, I feel they need to cut back on the volume of their sauces. I’ve had chips before at the other branch and they were absolutely soaked in frank’s hot sauce. More isn’t always better.

Great choices for food, quite limited on drink selection though. The staff are friendly and the wait for food was very short, the food was outstanding. The atmosphere was amazing, and although you are quite close to other tables you feel like your in you own bubble, definitely worth the visit probably the best place I've ever been to for food!

Nice place for a good meal. We visited at lunchtime. It wasn't busy but we'd pre-booked a table anyway. We had the Reuben burger and a large portion of bacon poutine. The burger was good but there are better burger restaurants in Edinburgh. The poutine was very tasty. We also had a Bounty milkshake and this stole the show. Absolutely delicious. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Overall, we had a nice experience.

Always delicious. I always order the daily special when I go and I haven’t been disappointed yet. I recommend the cubanos sandwich because it is so good! Plus great portion sizes, I’ve ordered as delivery in the past as well and always had enough for a leftovers lunch. In the restaurant the staff are nice, the decor is fun (Canadian) and service is quick.

Lovely Canadian themed restaurant. So the 3 of us had a Hatch burger, a Philly steak sandwich and a huge portion of dirty fries which are fries topped with steak, cheese, chili, avocado sauce, chopped tomatoes and probably other tasty things too. It was all good but if there is any criticism it’s that the burger and the steak sandwich were a little too salty for our taste - but it wouldn’t stop us going again and having the same. On Friday and Saturday nights they are open very late for cocktails, poutine, burgers etc. I recommend!

PHENOMENAL RICH AND TASTY FOOD Was able to make a reservation for three people on a Monday for the evening. One of the servers at the front was quick to take us to our seats. You order through your phone by scanning a QR code and it worked fine enough. Everything was delicious, rich and full of flavour. I started off with the Philiy Cheesesteak. The tiger roll was nice and soft just allowing you to enjoy the filling. The steak pieces had a great taste and I just wish the sandwich had more of it. The cheese brought the whole thing together. The buffalo wings were great. They honestly had that authentic North American taste and were extremely moreish. Finally, I really enjoyed the poutine as it was everything I ever wanted in a poutine. It had the legit cheese curds and gravy covering everything. Loved this place and excited to go back to try more of their food.

Food very good. Service pleasant. Unfortunately one meal and 2 sides did not arrive after being told they were on the way. Only 3 in the party . 3 other tables received full meal service . Questioned why there was delay but by then we had shared the other meals. Waitress took our concern to the manager and offered the rest of the meals asap . We cancelled them and asked for compensation. This was offered via the waitress consultation with the manager. A good manager would have spoken to customers direct .

I'm glad it wasn't a first date for us, as we barely talked whilst eating - it was THAT good. The burgers were incredible, all the toppings insanely tasty, no greasiness and just full on flavour. Poutine, well that's just tasty good food, can't go wrong there and those wings?! Try the Korean wings.. You need those in your life. Venue : 4/5 place is nice but looking at the reviews I was expecting more “American style”. The place looked more like a cantine on a motorway. Food 2/5 : disappointing. I had the cheeseburger with naked fries . Bun was good, but the steak was a very poor quality, thin (under 0.7cm) and “well done”. The sauce tasted industrial. Same as what you’d find in a Tesco if you look for a burger sauce. The fries were dry, and like the steak, of poor quality. I believe that’s why there are many options to cover them in gravy ( called Poutine in the restaurant) so that they are enhanced. For an “American/Canadian” place, the burger should be outstanding and not taste like a burger I’d find in a sushi place. Giving it 2 stars because at lease it looked like a burger... Staff 5/5: Super friendly and professional I won’t come back unless they improve the food quality.

Was here for a birthday meal with some friends. The range of food and drinks is great; we were a bit drunk and ordering accordingly so ended up with slushy cocktails, drinks, burgers, loaded fries, wings and probably even more that I've forgotten about - and everything was great. I thought a slushy cocktail would be awful but it was genuinely delicious, and seemed to have plenty of alcohol too. The Hatch burger was really tasty, but the star for me was the Carne Asada Fries; sooo good! I'll be back just for them again!

Food was pretty good. I had their Veggie Mexi Fries, it was the best I’ve had of similar dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed, with the restaurant seating in the back and the bar area up front. The walls are all decorated with murals and pictures, especially those depicting stereotypically-Canadian themes. Frankly, it does remind me of home. Only issues I had were with the internet going down briefly, and my uncle (who works there) not being in that day, but I can’t really hold either of those against the review. Overall just a pretty amazing Canadian restaurant tucked away along the streets of Edinburgh. I’m not joking here, it deserves 5/5. I don’t give away that score often.

Visiting Edinburgh we stopped in for a root beer float- expectations were missed when the root beer float was served over a full cup of ice cubes. The vanilla ice cream was sitting on top. Felt like a crime against root beer floats. Excellent playlist playing inside though, nothing but actual bangers.

Food is amazing. Can't fault on how good the food tastes. Burger bun was cold however and felt like it had been sat around for a bit. Prices seem fair but when ordering a burger that is quite literally what you get. So when compared to most other places where you get at least a small side of chips, the prices look less appealing. Service started pretty well but we were soon forgotten about when it got busy, asked for another minute just to decide what we want to order and ended up waiting over half an hour just to order.

Pros: Amazing staff, delicious poutine, great wings, great beer, large portion sizes. Cons: Dining area feels exposed, like a school dinner hall and has a weird smell. Daily special chicken burger crust is overly thick and extremely salty but is otherwise on point. It would be even better with cheese. Would definitely go here again for casual dining with friends looking for a good feed.

Great experience at Down The Hatch, we had Wednesday’s chicken wings (both flavours) and they did not disappoint! The chicken skin was crispy on the outside and the meat juicy and tender on the inside, least we not forget the deliciousness that came from the sauces smothered over them. Next came the side portion (large) of the fries with cheese curds and crispy bacon pieces with a healthy coating of gravy… this was an experience in itself. Overall this is a place you HAVE to eat at.

Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere. And amazing staff. Many restaurants of your type can only be obtained from you. I don't know how you achieved it, but I am sincerely grateful that you have it. I would recommend you to anyone. The only problem is with parking, but it's not up to you. And someday this repair will be over. Something that made a huge impression on me is that during rush hour your toilets are hijacked at a pharmacy. Incredibly clean despite the influx of people. Easily accessible for people with disabilities. In short, if you want to spend an evening without a problem with the restaurant and not get angry about anything. This is your place.

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. What I wanted to particularly compliment though was how welcoming they were as a dog-friendly venue. We took our Labrador puppy and the staff couldn't have been nicer, bringing her a bowl of water at the start, asking to stroke her and just generally being fantastic. Some places tolerate dogs, it seems here they were genuinely delighted to have her. I would recommend Down the Hatch to anybody looking for somewhere dog-friendly in Edinburgh.

Loved the food (my first poutine!), space, and service. The only downsides were that it was quite pricey and that the device for payment did guilt you into paying a 15% service charge. Let's import Canadian food without the American tip mentality. Without that if definitely be back!

I lovely open restaurant with great staff, my dish, the philly cheese steak was delicious, my husband had the roast beef sandwich and was totally underwhelmed as the bread wasn't toasted and the meat was cold. My son had the bacon cheeseburger which he enjoyed but, the bun was covered in mustard which he didn't like. Fries and drinks were great. Would I visit again? Not sure as I think there are better restaurants that do this kind of food better. I know it's Canadian themed and I didn't eat any poutine but, the idea of the cheese curds .....no thanks!

The only reason it's not 5 stars it because I didn't like how you had to order off the app. Ours didn't go through to the kitchen even though we were charged and we waited an hour before we even got our drinks. Food was fantastic- really high quality & reasonably priced. My first time eating poutine and it won’t be the last! As a non drinker I really appreciated the extensive soft drinks menu- in so many places it’s basically water or Diet/Coke. Would 100% go back.

If I could give 6 starts I would've! I Lived in Toronto for 10 years and I am a huge fan of poutine and proper chicken wings. Finally found a place in all Europe that matches the quality of those very simple but for some reason kind of tricky to nail dishes. Superb job! Very tasty wings and fries, not afraid of seasoning. To my personal taste, would've liked a bit more buffalo sauce, would very gladly pay extra for it:). The fries in the poutine were salted perfectly, cheese curds very soft and tasty and gravy nice and balanced out! Kudos guys, keep up the good stuff! Will go for the burgers next! Can't wait til you are open to public! Will be even better than takeout! Respect!

Perfect taste and always have been on point with delivery times (uber eats)! Opening a place in city centre saves a fortune on travel time to SQ as well as special requests with sauce mods have been fulfilled several times! Best part is that food is identical in both places unlike several other restaurants in Edinburgh who're lacking consistency.

Ages to get us in the door.got to our table and had to asked for it to be wiped which in the middle of a pandemic doesn't bode well. Ages to take the order. No body asked if anything was OK. Went to toilet no hand towels to dry hands. Asked for blue roll when leaving. Their seems to be no one in charge. If we had been approached and asked how everything was even at the point of paying we would have said something. Such a shame because we have heard so many good things. I write this as someone who has ordered take away 3x times and dined in once (all from Antigua). I want to like DTH as I luv the branding and decor and when dining in was treated amazingly well by all staff I interacted with. Food wise it has been a mixed bag though, I feel like I never know what I am actually gonna get. Chicken wings for example have ranged from quite good to soggy and salty, to inedible salty. Poutine has ranged from perfect to having stone cold cheese curds. On the other hand one very important thing has been consistently substandard, the burger patty! It needs some tweaking guys, less bread crumbs (or whatever you use to keep it together). It's not juicy and tasty as it should which is a shame as every other ingredient in your burgers feels right and blends well. DTH left me with a taste of missed opportunity, it's almost there, but not quite.

If you ever watched 'Man versus Food' on cable TV, you will have some idea of what to expect here. North America is noisy and garish and it's food culture is based around excess, understandable for a continent populated by refugees. The menu consists of beef sandwiches and chicken wings, dialled up to eleven with rich smokey sauces, chilli, and meaty gravies. The house speciality is poutine, a Canadian dish of fries, curd cheese and gravy which is currently trending at a bar near you. Loud rock music plays, the waitresses wear maple leaf t-shirts and the men's toilet has a poster of a young lady in a sports bra provocatively licking her lips. What's not to like?
