Was the food good? It was adequate. Was it worth $83USD (including 1soft drink, 1beer, and a side of bread)? I personally didn’t think so. I’ve traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and have had better value for my money. But I’m sure there are enough tourists who don’t know better and will think it’s amazing….or just need dinner and will wander in off the streets. We needed dinner, place seemed decent, good reviews. So we tried it. Would we come back? Probably not. Service was on the slower side, but considering there was one waiter working he managed well and was nice.

A charming and authentic Italian bistro in the heart of the old town, with the wine list displayed proudly in the walls of the restaurant. We had the seafood linguine, the mushroom and truffle ravioli and the spinach risotto. The seafood linguine would rival any coastal Italian restaurant, and it was passed around the table for everyone to enjoy. Agnes, our waitress, was attentive, and added to the charm of a relaxed evening. We enjoyed our visit so much we came back for mulled wine the next day…and may have ordered another antipasti board to enjoy with a bottle of their delightful white wines!

Wow. That's the first word that comes to mind here. I'm a chef and the food was exceptional. The mussels were hot and I mean piping hot but not over cooked. I was so impressed. We went for our 10th wedding anniversary, and could not have asked for more. An excellent menu which was varied without being overly long or complicated ensured that there was something anyone would be happy with. The food was fresh, well balanced, and absolutely delicious. I have been fortunate to have mussels in a few places, and these ones were really up there amongst the best. Like the menu, the wine list is very well thought out with a good variety of both types and prices. The small staff on the night of two were busy and hustling all night, but without making us feel rushed. In fact they were friendly, helpful and polite without exception. It is a slightly smaller space, so you have to be comfortable being close to the other diners, but it does fit the feel of the place, and helps add to the atmosphere. All in all we had a fantastic evening, and could not think of anything that could have been bettered. Thanks folks, we can't wait to come back.

Spontaneous off the street visit on a busy evening and still accommodated without reservation, albeit with a time limit. The service was brilliant and the food amazing. We all had scallops to start followed by seafood linguine. Can honestly say the scallops were the best I've ever tasted. Linguine of equal quality. Great wine too. Will definitely head back again but with a reservation so I can enjoy it all the more!

Wonderful Surprise! Large mussel platter was LARGE and delicious, sea bass on risotto also delicious, and dessert and lemon cello capped a great meal. A plus … intimate setting, gracious and engaging servers, and relaxed pace. Having had several fine yet predictable meals along the Royal Mile, this Italian cuisine was very welcome and certainly very well prepared!

Nestled near the foot of Edinburgh’s Cockburn street is this wonderful restaurant. Natural woods, eclectic gastronomic offerings that have a simple yet stylish flare make this a go-to restaurant, be it afternoon or evening. I had beetroot carpaccio with goat cheese for starters and their special main course: Rigatoni with Italian sausage and spinach in a creamy sauce. Delicious! The Prosecco was light and the Merlot of a good quality. It’s not just about the food. The ambience was super: relaxed with light jazz and neo ambient classical/piano music tucked in the background. It’s also the kind of place you can come on your own and write, savour the atmosphere and just take it all in.

Omg...my partner and I both thought that the food here was the absolute best we've had during our short vacation in Scotland. The food was really tasty, the service was also good. Risotto was yummy, and service not too slow, but I was annoyed by the receipt aggressively telling me that service wasn't included. (Service is always included; it's illegal not to pay your staff.)

I was expecting some good italian food based on the reviews and overall it was ok, but some of the sauces were a bit over/under flavoured. The mussels themselves were nice, but both it and the king prawns were in a very vinegary sauce. The decor was a little wooden and therefore quite loud. Not a relaxing place for dinner

Stumbled upon this place as it was very close to our Hotel . We ate there on the first evening of our stay . My wife and I opted for the shared Seafood Platter. The meal was excellent , the wine hit the spot also. Would have no hesitation in recommending ECCO VINO to anyone seeking a truly authentic Italian restaurant which clearly prides itself on the Quality of its produce and service .

As an Italian I liked more the Scottish part of the cuisine, I enjoyed the haggis and the black pudding. The fish, in my personal opinion, was not of good quality. Tasteless shrimps and scallops, Linguine were overcooked for Italian taste. Service was nice and quick. Overall an average experience

Amazing salad, great selection of wine (although the one I particularly wanted was unavailable), and very tasty courgette soup. The Aperol spritz was, unfortunately, very disappointing — hardly any Aperol among the ice, and pretty much no ‘spritz’ to it; if you want a glass of ice, I’m sure there are cheaper options elsewhere. Service could have been better.

Food was excellent but service and how we got treated and told after our meal sorry you have to leave because the table is booked for another party and they will will be arriving in 5mins. In all my years I have never been told to leave because its double booked. We couldn't have a dessert or coffee. So I wouldn't go there again.

what an amazing place! Food is absolutely stunning, one of the best seafood I have eaten in my life, and this is comparing to Hong Kong, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Spain. Staff is extremly friendly and proffessional, Polish team looks after you without any reservations making sure your food is good and your whole experience is flawless. I visited in mid December with one friend (for dinner) and I returned today with a different friend for lunch. Both visits were fantastic, the food today was absolutely delicious and the service was brilliant. We had the calamari salad and a pot of mussels for starters and main course was Crab and courgette risotto and duck leg confit. Spectacular!! Can’t wait to return. A wonderful venue.

Stopped here for a late lunch, during a day out in Edinburgh. I opted for the lunch special - mussels, beer and bread. The mussels were superb and the soup in which they were cooked was very tasty. My wife had the soup of the day, carrot and coriander, which she said was excellent. The surroundings are convivial and the staff helpful and cheerful. There are seats outside, but in February only for the brave. Recommended.

Lovely place for a meal with friends. Amazingly, we were six people, it was full, but fairly possible to actually have a conversation across the table with everyone, because there was no or very soft music playing! They have an extensive wine list and a manageable menu, the food was very good, generous quantities, I couldn't resist the homemade warm brownie with whipped cream, which was delicious. Disabled access is ok as it's level with the pavement, but Cockburn Street is quite steep, so in itself not great if you're a wheelchair user and I think the entrance is not particularly wheelchair friendly, so you're probably going to need some assistance. There's no disabled bathroom and only the ladies toilet is on the ground floor, which they allowed me to use, but if you're using a wheelchair then it will be pretty hard to get through the two doors. If you can manage to walk a little bit (I walk with two sticks) , then you might manage, as the space is quite small, so you can hold on to the wall and doors.

Rather brusque service as I was asked to move twice from one table to another, despite both tables being the same size. Also, when I pushed the table away from the booth seating to sit down (it was hard up against the seat), the waiter pushed it back twice, which I complained about at the time, which he aeemed to ignore. I waited until he left, moved the table, sat down and waited for the other guests. When they arrived, they also found getting a seat difficult. Food and drink apparently very good although I only sampled the excellent, reasonably priced wine. I suspect the waiter had a difficult day beforehand as other have said its very good. I'll go back, if only to check it wasn't just a bad day. Others in my party were less charitable and said they'd go to another of the many good eating places within a minute walk from here.

Everytime I come to Edinburgh for work I make a point of coming here. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxing. Particularly comfortable when I am travelling on my own. I never feel rushed or awkward being by myself. There is a good variety of food to choose from. The menu changes so I'm guessing its seasonal and they also serve a catch of the day. They did me right. I don;t particularly like eating Italian when I am traveling. Because I think it ends up being a way to easy choice when you should be pushing the boundaries of the cuisine in the area instead of just going for what is comfortable. However the wines were really nice and the place was open late. There was a decent crowd inside which told me this is a place to try and it was a nice spot. Un posto incantevole! This is an enchanting little Italian place with beautiful fresh food, cooked in view of the tables and served on lovely plates by friendly waiting staff. Its worth making a booking if there is a group of you as there are only a few tables. If you are lucky enough to be here on a sunny day I'd recommend you sit outside. Ecco Vino has a cosy and relaxed atmosphere but it's still very stylish. I like to take my mum here as she loves the pesto pasta and it is always perfectly cooked. They have a brilliant selection of wine, perhaps the best in the area. It is by far the nicest place to eat on the street and only a stroll from the epicentre of the tourist hot spots.

Mmmmm wine and snackettes! Harbouring a small but well formed selection of wines by the glass (125ml and 175ml) ((and many more by the bottle)) and a tasty menu of freshly prepared* bar snacks this is the perfect place to escape from the centre of tourist-ville. Sophisticated yet chilled out vibe, feels like a hidden secret but come one, come all. *so fresh you can see the chef operating live right behind the bar!
