Reviews of Fishers In The City
J. A.
Splendid place, excellent food and service even though slow it was efficient and courtious. Top of the line menu that is worth the high price, my plate was a la carte and requested some changes that were perfectly delivered by the chef, just like you expect from a 5 star restaurant. It would get a 5 star from me if it was not for the fact that I thought service was slow and pricing was high for certain menu items. Do not take me wrong, this is a must go in Edinburgh but be prepared to pay the price for what you get and you will not be disappointed.
E. W.
The beef short ribs bao is excellent. The meat is flavourful and succulent. Place is full on a sat. Do make reservations before going. Thankfully for us; there was a cancellation and they could sit us.
D. P.
The food is good, but underwhelming. The presentation and attention to detail just felt lacking. Whilst the server was lovely, the welcome and bar service was lacklustre and detracted from the overal experience.
Overal it's a good well located fish restaurant.

If you are looking for fresh seafood in Edinburgh, this is the place to go! Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was fresh and tasty and they have a good wine selection. Would recommend!
S. D.
Great meal.
Was our first in Edinburgh and decided to start it with seafood meal
Seafood soup was excellent and creamy.
The boiled seafood lobster for 2 was huge and defo enough for 3 people to share if you also ordered starters.
Service was good too
Well recommended
M. C.
Highly recommended. The scallops are the biggest I’ve seen so far. So juicy, tender and sweet. Incredible!
C. F.
Absolutely delicious, amazing friendly service top quality food, nice atmosphere. Overall amazing, will absolutely be going again and would recommend to anyone if they are looking to spend a nice evening with good food!

Absolutely loved this restaurant. From the moment we stepped in, we were met with excellent, friendly service. The menu was extensive and, I think, reasonably priced for the quality that we received. It was my first time trying oysters and they were truly delicious. The waiter was happy to give us some tips on how to garnish them. The mussels were absolutely delicious. Not the biggest I've had but definitely the freshest and the sauce was lovely and creamy - I think the best I've had. Dessert was very interesting. I went for a white chocolate and pistachio dessert that was most delicious.
I also tried the Macallan whisky flight which I would really recommend. The menu contains lots of tasting notes and information on how the whiskies differ so it was a tasty and informative experience. 3x 15 mL measures for £12.
Comforting to see lots of windows open to help stop covid transmission.

First I have to say that I am not a fish eater; therefore it’s
a big thing to say that I came away liking squid for the first
time ever. Apart from the excellent food, we found the
service enthusiastic without being intrusive. They understood our
specific dietary needs. Although it is a bit pricey, the visit
was well worth it and it’s a not-to-be-missed for the future.
B. C.
Absolutely amazing 🥰 this restaurant is a must do if you like shellfish! This was my first visit and it absolutely will not be the last the food was devine! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the service was top notch! I cannot wait to go back for another meal and drinks here.

We first came to Fishers 2 years ago for my fiancé's birthday and it blew us both away, so we had to come back again this year, it didn't disappoint.
I had the pigeon to start and it was cooked perfectly pink with puffed rice for great texture contrast, followed by the sea bass with perfect crisp skin and the flesh cooked just right with an incredible broth. A perfect balance.
My fiance had the shellfish platter and she could not have been any happier, everything cooked just right.
For dessert I had the raspberry panna cotta, so fresh and full of raspberry flavour, she had the creme brulee, sweet, creamy, crisp, all faultless.
The staff were happy, cheery and attentive, they even popped a wee candle on her creme brulee for her birthday as a surprise. I can't fault them at all.
We will be back!

At Fishers in the City for out anniversary. Fantastic food and atmosphere with exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. My wife had scallops to start followed by halibut whilst I had Mackerel followed by Bangladeshi coley curry. Highly recommend to everyone
F. W.
On a whim, we made a reservation for dinner and we were not disappointed. Amazing service, food, and atmosphere. Our waitress was attentive and wonderful, the lobster was buttery and delicious, and the duck was tender with a delicious sauce. Even our little one enjoyed her fish and chips. We’ll be sure to be back on our next trip to Edinburgh.
A.
This place was recommended by the concierge at the Kimpton Hotel. The place is easy to walk too. Very nice area. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. The food was amazing. We ordered the calamari starter, scallops and halibut. It was fabulous. The ambiance is nice. I highly recommend
E. W.
Excellent, as always. Very good service and delicious food, nice atmosphere
A. Y.
After visiting the awful Contini (which we gave one star) we went to Fishers. What a contrast! Beautifully presented food - we had oysters followed by a cheese platter with great wine, fabulous service and a great ambience. Very worthy of five stars.
S. T.
Exceptional food all around. We ordered the seabass and mussels which really hit the spot. Would recommend to those looking for a great restaurant in Edinburgh!
M. L.
Marvellous! Massive well done to the hard working kitchen staff behind the scenes(well, you can actually see them working from where you sat) on their presentation of some fabulous food along with just as hard working front of house staff doing their utmost to make us as welcome as possible.. Tasty food..groovy tunes in the background adds to the perfect ambience.. Well done to everyone connected..
M. H.
Nice place - great mussels and fish & chips. Some hiccups in the service, but not too bad
M. D.
Cosy restaurant with nice staff. Even though we haven't a table reservation, they found a table, the meal serving was ultra fast and the food itself very delicious. Recommend to visit once you're in Edinburgh!
D. E.
My husband and I had been traveling for over two weeks by the time we came to this restaurant, visiting Rome, Naples, amalfi, Paris. Our meal here is the one we enjoyed most. Interesting, refined and delicious dishes, very large selection of Scotch whiskey, sweet and helpful waiter.
C.
Nice ambience but food was average. The lemon sole and halibut were ok but other dishes (oysters and chilled seafood starter) were ordinary.
S. E. M.
Fish and chips deluxe is hands down the beat fish and chips I ever had in my life. Servers are really good too. Overall great experience, will come back for sure!
K. O.
Popped in for a spot of lunch with an hour to spare - excellent food and even better service. Very attentive and welcoming and really delicious scallops and really good wine by the glass too!
C. S.
Wonderful place with excellent staff. I went on my own, but the staff were so lovely and accomodating. The food was amazing too. Highly recommend visiting. The food was so fresh, and the environment created by the staff and others customers was great.
M. W.
Absolutely fantastic food and great staff. Not the budget option but worth every penny. I loved the fish soup: it actually has fish in it and is very thick and full. The mains are nice, large and beautifully presented. For puddings (I am ashamed to admit we did try a few, don't tell my scales!) I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding.
L. F.
I had the duck breast and my boyfriend had the fish and chips- both were so delicious!!! Just melted in your mouth. The ambiance of the restaurant was very romantic with candles and low lights. Highly recommend for a date night (:
F. M. (.
The people only giving 4 stars because of high prices are WRONG (and stupid). You get the best fish restaurant, you pay the correct price. It felt even cheap for the quality to be honest. Don't go to higher end restaurants if you're gonna whine about the price
S. Q.
Enjoyed the set menu and an excellent value for three courses for 18 pounds. Fish soup was more of a Chowder with salmon. Hake with potatoes was delicious. The blood and sand cocktail was good. Toffee pudding with cream also excellent. The selection of breads is good. Viewed other patrons food and the shellfish oysters etc is impressive. Excellent friendly service.
c. l.
What a fantastic Restraunt. The food was first class, it was the best Restraunt i have visited in a long time. All staff so friendly. Great service and food, next time we visit Edinburgh we will book a table
E. P.
Cozy and modern restaurant in Edinburgh. The starter were bay scallops, it was nicely cooked and presented. Then ordered paella as a main course and it was made surprisingly good! The waiters were ok, one served the water and splashed it over the menu and napkin, I dried out and she didn't apologize. It could be because the place was very busy and probably the person overload. Waitresses in general weren't sympathetic but I could come back for the food.
C. H.
It was only after coming here that I realized I didn’t even have any seafood 🤦🏻♀️ but the food was still so delicious! I had the set lunch menu with pumpkin soup and a venison / root-veg stew, with cauliflower gratin on the side. The restaurant was also virtually empty at 4pm on a Wednesday which felt quite peaceful. And the set lunch, which is an amazing deal, is available until 6pm every day. Now all I need to do is come back and eat what this restaurant is actually famous for — but rarely does a seafood restaurant do non-seafood items well, and this one hit the nail right on the head.
A. H.
Pros: The scallops and langoustines were so good. The flavor of other foods was good. The atmosphere and the environment made me very comfortable. The desserts were decent.
Cons: There were sands in our razor clams(then they got us another pair but there still some sands)🙃😑🤐.The lobster claw was raw and the crab was not fresh. The starters were better than the mains.
J. G.
We did not have a reservation and tried our luck. The friendly manager gave us a nice table behind the bar and we have enjoyed a great evening with fresh seafood and excellent wine (recommended by the manager). It was an excellent evening, thank you.
J. D.
Fresh and well cooked. The menu is not extensive but there is still plenty to choose from. The food was absolutely lovely and was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Loved it.
G. S.
Excellent food, fresh simple and delicious lovely cerise-we just had a beautiful lunch!
R. D.
Service was amazing, food was delicious, definitely recommend especially if you're from out of town!
K.
I came here for early dinner on my own. I made a reservation earlier in the day when I happened to be walking by the restaurant. I had the lemon sole with squid ink gnocchi, a side salad, and the chocolate tart for dessert. I didn't think the fish was the prettiest of presentations, but looks aren't everything. It was very good and went well with the delicious squid ink gnocchi as well as the other parts of the dish. I was in the mood for dessert but wasn't sure what to get, and one of the waiters recommended the chocolate tart. It came with a sprinkling of raspberries and goat milk ice cream. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet and all the flavors blended very well together. Overall, this was a great meal.
A. S.
Seafood platter was so great, oyster were fresh and tasteful too. Price is reasonable with the food quality.
D. B.
Our honeymoon to Edinburgh was based around food and this was a significant highlight. The front of house team were incredibly friendly and attentive. You can tell they enjoy working here. The food was incredible. Fresh, exciting, cooked with confidence and precision. We will definitely be recommending this place to others and booking for some anniversaries. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
S. M.
Its an easy 10 min stroll from princess street. A good idea is to book in advance as it's a very popular venue. The staff are all extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the days menu. The hand dived scallops were without doubt the best I've tasted, I would have liked more but the wife wouldn't let me near her plate. I had the salmon and again it was of a great quality and well presented. Service is fast but not rushed and the deserts are worthy of a mention. Wine list is extensive and very well priced. Overall a great dining experience and one that we'll certainly repeat on out next trip to Edinburgh.
V. F.
As a couple who love all things seafood and shellfish, this is by far the best food of this type that we have ever eaten! (we are from the South Coast and dine in seafood restaurants often).
The creaminess of the oysters is like something I have never experienced before. The seafood platter was cooked to perfection and the steaks, WOW!
The staff went above and beyond to ensure that all of our needs were met and that we had the best dining experience possible.
I cannot recommend this quaint little hidden gem enough!
Thank you for adding the icing on top of the cake to an already fantastic honeymoon.
We cannot wait until we can visit again.
M. A. F.
A very nice and authentic place to eat fish in Edinburgh - lovely, tasty & polite service.
Even the recommended delicious local beer to fish & chips offers an interesting contemporary interpretation of an Art Deco-Label👍🏻🏴🍺🐟
T. N.
To notch food! Friendly staff and good service. We'd go again.
L. H. (.
Absolutely fantastic. Service was great, mussels were lip-smackingly delicious and fresh. On the slightly pricier side, but worth every single penny.
R. S.
My experience last night was one of the most enjoyable food experiences ever.
Not having had lobster or crab claws before our friends wanted us to experience something that would please my wife and I.
We went for the hot sharing seafood plater.
Unbelievable.
No need to list what is on it just see the menu or previous reviews.
Everything was cooked so perfect and tender and the flavour was something I had not expected. This has certainly set my bar very high for my next seafood restaurant.
In addition to the food it must be said our main waitress was very attentive and helpful as were any that assisted with plate clearing.
I am sure the price may put some off and this is a shame as some are missing out but that said most dishes do come as an individual rather than a sharing.
If you are a seafood lover and are in Edinburgh then this really should be a night for you.
A. M.
Highly recommended. The scallops are the biggest I’ve seen so far. So juicy, tender and sweet. Incredible!
L. G.
Outstanding. Lovely staff, extraordinary food and great drinks. They also cater to vegetarians and vegans. The warm staff contributes to the cosy atmosphere as much as the chic, yet comfortable interior. Recommend this whole-heartedly.
S. C.
I have savoured the delights many times, and as ever delicious, well worth a booking if you are after fun service and fresh seafood, 10/10
L. F.
Perfect place for a romantic lunch! Loved the food, atmosphere and company. Will defo be back.
A. R.
Nice and fresh hot seafood platter, generous portions, shame it got cold so quickly.
A. C. C.
Really enjoyable fish meal, great sticky toffee pudding. Nice staff.
E. D.
Homely and clean interior, lovely and attentive staff, delicious food, great price! What more could you ask for?
S. C.
Best seafood ive ever had
R. L.
Seafood soup/chowder was bomb. Best soup ever according to my soup-experienced mother
C. L.
Just had a fabulous lunch. Lobster and prawns look to our next visit to Edinburgh.
K. L.
Good food but quite pricey. Did not other seafood restaurant here hence could not do a comparison. Service is good. Seafood platter is huge and impressive.
C. C.
We had a wonderful meal and every single course was pure perfection. Thank you to the friendly and caring staff for such an amazing meal and service. If we lived in Edinburgh we'd be regular customers.
J. A.
Great fish menu, consistently reliable. Friendly and efficient service. Buzzing atmosphere. Good pre theatre menu. Highly recommended
C. M.
Amazing food and even better service. Had a wonderful evening, with all credit going to our outstanding waiter. We didn't realise that there was another side to the menu and his responding gesture made our evening. It's the little things and these guys them so right!
W. M.
Orkney Scallops were just fantastic. If you like seafood this is the place to be
M. S.
My favorite seafood place in Edinburgh. The hot platter is always a delight. Can’t wait to visit again!
m. l.
Just had a wonderful meal tonight. Starters of Langoustine and crayfish and crab beignet and main courses of scallops and halibut were delicious. Would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Edinburgh. Staff were very friendly, chatty and welcoming.
T. H. B.
Charming staff and delicious food made our visit there, a highlight of our trip to Edinburgh. I would definitely return.
K. S.
Fantastic food and a great experience. Recommend the assorted oysters!
D. D. (. H. C.
If you like your fish then you'll love eating here. The chef and his team put on a great service and everything cooked to perfection 5⭐
E. B.
My friends and I love this restaurant but felt it was a bit cramped tonight. Due to a large table (maybe 10/12 people) on other side, staff were having to turn sideways to get through space between the 2 tables .
We asked to be moved and that was facilitated but it's a shame that we had to ask. We were told no social distancing now! A different experience to that when we visited in May. Food was as good as usual though.
G. F.
Excellent entertaining staff looked after us well and the food was seriously tasty and nice sized portions. Recommend if you really like fish.
D. J.
Excellent food and very friendly staff, really enjoyable place to dine out
J. B.
Beautiful meal, delicious. Excellent service with a smile. Great atmosphere and wonderful evening. Thank you x
M. T.
Clean, comfortable, and friendly, attentive staff. Best fish I've had in a long time.
R. S.
Really good tasting food. Staff pleasant and attentive. Prices very fair.
J. D.
First time in months we were able to eat in the town. Food was exceptional, menu expansive, wine and drinks reasonable but with a wide selection of exclusive wines too. Enjoyed the experience and the staff were very nice.
V. K.
Great super friendly service, nice atmosphere and good dishes. Loved the mussels and terrine 👌
R.
Excellent range of seafood available on the menu, beautifully cooked and delicious desserts.
Y. K. (.
We ordered 2 main menus, which were scallops and Hake. Both were fantastic and absolutely perfect. Staffs were so kind and nice. Highly recommend!!
K. I.
Nice Atmosphere, great fish dishes and wine. Recommended!
K. B.
Incredibly delicious food and excellent service. I highly recommend.
d. j.
Just quality! Fast service, TASTY AF FOOD, delish cocktails. Just go and eat there!
B. T.
Gorgeous, very tasty meal in a lovely restaurant setting! Am happy we got a seat in the front, as the room at the back didn't look as appealing.
R. F.
Very nice restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh. Doesn't just do fish - I had a fantastic pigeon starter as part of a recent meal there. Did also have fish too, the deluxe fish and chips (with some deliciously-juicy prawns) was very nice indeed. Not super-cheap, but you get what you pay for and the food and service were both great.
D. B.
Staff were very attentive without being false .... seafood great value and absoutly beautiful.... surroundings and venue perfect my advice definitely visit and order oysters..... lovely
B.
Superb food, excellent service! Well worth a visit
J. S.
AMMMAAAZZZZING! I'M a fish fanatic. It's very very very cozy and tasty place. I'M shoked.
r. d.
We had dinner here on Friday. Easy to book. People actually answer the phone.
Oysters were fantastic, especially the grilled ones. The main course was a surf and turf 8oz Ribeye with 1/2 Lobster plus a bucket load of garlic butter. No kissing afterwards but worth the sacrifice. Finished off with Affogato with a shot of Frangelico. My wife finished off with a creme brûlée. One of the best she has had.
( she thinks she’s a creme brûlée aficionado).
The Moscow mules went down a treat and so did the Gavi wine.
Finally the service was excellent. Didn’t catch the server’s name but we had a discussion about low carb dieting but it all went out of the window when the desserts come along.
Would recommend in a heartbeat.
Thanks again.
S. G.
My girlfriend and I had a great dinning experience at fishers in the city as the service was sharp, sea food so fresh and delicious and the place had a cool and vibrant atmosphere.
C. C.
Lovely food, nice setting and great customer service. The oysters were very nice and I highly recommend the salmon as a main. Nice fish and chips for younger customer :)
R. O.
Fabulous seafood, enjoyed every dish including the desert, creme brûlée. The hot seafood platter was very tasty and one was
good to share for 2. We tried the fish curry as well and enjoyed it very much. Great for family, couples, anyone.
M. B.
Great spot for some fresh seafood, friendly staff
K. M. L.
Had the hot seafood platter; sadly lobster and langoustine could be fresher? Flesh was not firm. Chips that accompanied the meal was the best I had eaten for years. Crispy and done to perfection. Thanks to our waitress, Claire, who was so friendly and welcoming
B. A.
Absolutely love this place, i went for my first time last week and took my partner. I also tried the oysters for my first time and the were delicious all th food was so I'll very happily be returning here on my next trip to Edinburgh
D. T.
Great place. Actually it was so good that I came back for lunch the next day. Service was both friendly and competent.
l. w.
Expertly prepared sea bass and the crème brûlée was delightful! Pleasant wait staff!
P. C.
A very happening place, amazing staff, and the food is great
M. W.
Excellent meal served by friendly staff at a reasonable price. The place was clean and nothing was rushed. Definitely going back.
C. L.
Lovely food..you won't go far wrong visiting Fishers
T. D.
Food: 4 stars
- must have: mussels, halibut
- no: sea-bass
Decor: 3 stars
R. B.
Amazing! From the moment we entered to when we left it was a delightful experience. We ordered a variety of starters to share from to get a selection of different dishes. Each one was simply beautiful. Gorgeous combination of flavours in each dish. The seafood was fresh and very tasty. Fantastic service from the staff. Definitely worth the price and I would recommend it to anyone who loves seafood. Will definitely come again.
P. Z. Y.
Nice food with great service!
L. D.
Amazing fresh seafood some of the best I've had well worth a visit.
B. G.
The food was generally good but not excellent. To give but one example of a detail that could and should be easily rectified, the bread put on the table as we sat -thanks- included both white a dark. The former had a soft crust and tasteless, doughy filling. The dark was better, but one of the two slices we were served was the crust end of the loaf (hence, mostly crust). Lack of attention to detail! Service was also uneven - some waiters were excellent (attentive, cordial, communicative), but a few were not, bordering rude. The local itself is attractive, and the same goes for table settings. Portions were fairly large (on things like mussels, or sides like fries, but of course, not on per unit dishes like langostinos or mussels). Among the dishes we tried, the tempura oysters and cold salmon sampler were our favorites.
R. H.
Love the Fishers, the staff are really friendly and the food we had was really very tasty. It's has a great feel to the restaurant, welcoming, friendly and local fresh food.
S. M.
After not being in for a long time we went for a birthday meal with my family. We had the seafood platter, a paella, a fish curry and some salads between us. Absolutely gorgeous, with excellent friendly and attentive staff. I was slightly irked by the automatic taking the wine to the most 'mature' man for him to taste when I had chosen it, but this did not diminish the quality of the drink. A real treat.
P.
Fantastic food fantastic services, what more is needed? Didn't get to try the dessert tho
F. D.
Food was excellent. Service & staff spirited. We ordered the mussels, deluxe cod and prawn, and the cod from the set menu- all fresh and full of flavour.
Great meal will return when back in this incredible city.
E. N.
Lovely meal and great service too
M. K.
Consistently great! The staff is always friendly, the food is always superb and the prices are reasonable. The quality and freshness of the fish is what brings me here every time I'm in town. This is a can't go wrong place for both locals and tourists. The fish and chips is some of the best I've ever had; it's light and flakey and not oily. The muscles in cream and garlic is unbelievable and the dinner portion is overly generous. If you've never tried sticky toffee pudding, it's a must try. It's a fantastic local dessert that's not overly sweet and comes out warm.
M. Y.
Lovely multi level restaurant space. The nautical theme design and decorations really get you in the mood for the great seafood dishes in offer in the restaurant.
The mussels were fresh, and very tasty. The smoked fish platter is great with the different preparations of Salmon and other fish.
The service was very friendly, with the waitresses show that they really cared about the guest having a great meal.
e. a.
Excellent seafood. As good as it gets. Friendly service.
a. l.
Lovely place and professional friendly staff. The best fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding I have every had. Would highly recommend
L. A.
Lovely food and quick efficient service. Would 100% return.
L. C.
The food was great, staff was friendly, the environment was nice, but it was slightly pricey.
S. A.
Wow!! The best seafood I have tried in years. This is an upmarket establishment so you pay for quality food. Kaylan our waiter was on point the whole evening and we had a great time conversing with him. We'll worth a visit if you like seafood
C. P.
Staff member smoking outside door on our approach so entered premises through cigarette smoke/fumes which was not good. Inside, staff, service and food excellent as usual. Great waiting staff and credit to the Chef and his staff for the food.
T. S. L.
This was a great experience overall. I order the seafood platter for two and the portion is huge. The seafood were super fresh overall except the lobster that I was a little disappointed for because the texture were not as “crunchy” and sweet. However the shellfish and crab were excellent, the service were very good as well.
T. G. T.
Excellent fish and chips in a cozy setting.
J.
When it came to food in Scotland, I think this was one of my favourite meals. I had the classic Fish and Chips whereas my sister had the Seafood Platter for one. The seafood was so fresh and cooked to perfection! The ambiance was lovely as well. If I travel to Scotland again, I'm definitely revisiting this place!
M. P.
Excellent food, great service and nice atmosphere. On the pricey end.
P. R.
Exquisite seafood. Friendly unpretentious service. A genuinely pleasurable dining experience.
K. R.
Happened upon Fishers one day while looking for a place to lunch. Buzzing! Great atmosphere. Informal upmarket dining. We went for the three courses for £20. Polenta Squid to start...nice, different. One diner felt seasoning lacking. One wanted more squid. But enjoyable and different. Mains chose hake (it is a fish restaurant) and pork. Happy with both especially the fish. Sticky toffee pudding dessert. Good. Service lovely. Waiting staff and kitchen very busy but kept on top of everything. Person who served us...professional, efficient, friendly and hard working. Thank you! Hope the guy who bumped his leg is ok!
W. A.
Highly recommended! The restaurant itself is smart but casual, well decorated to give the feeling of being on a ship. I went for the mussels which were delicious and obviously very fresh. The 1kg portion was very reasonably priced and the other dishes served to restaurant goers were well presented and looked very appetising. There is also a great selection of drinks to go with the meal.
J. C.
We were a group of six people that arrived over a time period of over half an hour as coming from various places and parking problems but this caused no problems. A lovely comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was generally excellent and the late ordered meals arrived the same time as other meals. We over stayed our allotted time for the table although the staff did not mention this but the restaurant was quiet for a Saturday afternoon.
C. S.
Starter and wine fine. BUT the chef seriously over did it with the garlic on the hot shell fish platter. The garlic flavour kill any others. Was about as subtle as a bull in a China shop on the pallet.
S.
Excellent food and service at a realistic price. Would highly recommend for a good quality fish restaurant
N. F.
Quick service & great fish and chips.
M. d. V.
Simply fantastic, great interior, excellent food ! Recommended
A. O.
Superb food, waiters very friendly and professional. Nice atmosphere. Good price/service/food
J. T.
Had a delicious langoustine starter, which was very very tasty, but a little bit on the small side. As main we had the fish and chips deluxe, and scallops. The batter of the fish and chips was light and crisp. The sauce was great as well. The hand dived scallops could have had a little bit more seasoning. Would recommend
R. a. D. B.
This was one of our favorite dinners while in Edinburgh. We were in a group of eight and everyone was very happy with their choices from the Paella seafood, to the seafood platters and fish and chips. Service and atmosphere was excellent.
G. K.
Great welcome and service. Lovely menu choices and top quality meal. Highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely amazing lobster and scallops. Brilliant service and lovely restaurant. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city. The lunch menu also seemed to be great value for fantastic food (many people seemed to order it whilst we were there).
T. R.
FABULOUS...food ..fantastic staff..and wine choice ...
O. L.
Best fish in town!
D. P.
Really fabulous restaurant. Love the food, ambience and staff. Great wine list. Fish chowder something to dream about. Veggie options limited but really imaginative and tasty. Fish dishes were perfect. Rarely, a really varied and tempting dessert menu accompanied by well selected pudding wines and sherries. If I lived in Edinburgh I would come here every week!
J.
Don't miss out this restaurant if you were in Edinburgh! Very reasonable price and the foods are so delicious. I ordered the mussels, squid, and the soup. And the king prawn curry and cod for main. They are very fresh, and I haven't eaten the seafood which are so good in the U.K. Super recommended this lovely place!
S. J.
Wonderful seafood platter. Brilliant fish, simply cooked. Percect6
E. M.
The food was great. We had the sea food platter for one person, but was enough for two. The service was very charming and the kitchen was open. Worth going if you like seafood.
M. O.
It's a casual yet stylish seafood eatery with delicious mussels and oysters - as this is all we ordered. Being greedy, we got a kilo each of mussels which was more than enough, we could have easily shared one between the two of us. The service was excellent and the décor is kind of like a glamorous, romantic ship with soft warm lighting. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality and quantity of food delivered. Highly recommended!
E. T.
Have the Scallops, they are huge and so succulent.
Really loved my oyster starter, it's been while since I had that melt in the mouth freshness.
Great attentive staff.
I recommend booking in advance.
N. R.
Lively restaurant specialises in local fish and seafood. Can get a bit noisy at peak times but this does not detract from the experience. Food is excellent and we'll presented by friendly staff. Great selection of wines to compliment the menu choices. A must go to destination but booking recommend.
V. P.
What a place! My friend recommended it after we couldnt get a walk-in table at Chez Jules and it was amazing. Very elegant interiors and simply brilliant staff! I ate the humble fish and chips with a Sancerre wine and will remember this evening for a long time. Not for the budget eater though!
D. S.
Beautifully cooked, simple dishes but superb.
G. T.
I had never been to Fishers before and so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not a huge lover of fish however there were certainly plenty of options available; I had a nice salad with smoked duck to start with before enjoying a fabulous south Vietnamese curry with coley (I asked the server to make it without prawns). The meal was fantastic! I can't wait to go back there
V.
Very good ambiance, well-designed space and thought-out menu coupled with impressive wine list make this restaurant an easy choice. Dishes are presented are served with attention to detail, color and spatial arrangement. The description of each dish is mouth-watering, yet, and yet, the food itself is unadventurous, mildly-flavored, though in one appetizer, it became a good thing: giving fresh arugula a chance to compete with garlic aïoli and deep - fried fish. The freshness and delicacy off all food ingredients was never in doubt in all the starters I have tried, but none were memorable or pleading to have some more. Impressive execution and ingredients, but very mild result to my taste :)
T. S.
the staff is super friendly. the wine list is extensive with a lot of choices by the glass. the panko monkfish starter was excellent. the Orkney scallops where delicious as were the langistines. it would have been 4.5 stars except for our table of 2 sitting in the back was overwhelmed by a large noisy business dinner.
R. S.
Amazing place & delicious food 😋&great staff💚
O. Z.
We had an excellent meal, mussels were fresh and tasty, langoustine were excellent, oysters were excellent too. The wine was not great. Staff was friendly and atmosphere is more casual than upscale.
지.
Yummy. Visit before 6PM for enjoying lunch special. You can enjoy 3 courses
C. M.
Excellent dinner in a very relaxed atmosphere. Fishers in the City is a great fish restaurant in Edinburgh. Broad choice for the fish lover from oysters several ways to fish of the day (halibut today). Strongly recommend booking as we visited on a Monday evening and the place was buzzing.
S. S.
Great seafood restaurant for the discerning customer. Does a good fish and chips as well.
A. S.
Great atmosphere and food was special. Staff careful and kind. Two starters and the sharing main platter were excellent. Only downside were the chips, sure not the reason I was there for!
c. c.
Set lunch is a bargin at Fishers. Great choice to suit everyone and the food was cooked perfectly. We will be back soon to try the other dishes on the menu. Service is always a delight too.
R. J.
Always had a good meal here. If you're going for a special occasion I'd recommend booking in advance as asking to sit in the from section. They have a great set lunch menu that runs 7 days too.
I. M.
Every time I have been here it has been amazing. Back in the day, and it may be the same still, they offered an excellent cheese plate for dessert - the cheeses were from Mellis Cheese, which provide an excellent selection.
If you are in Edinburgh and want a nice restaurant, this is a good choice!
E. W.
This place lives up to its reputation, and then some. All of our food was beautiful: the salad was perfectly dressed, the chips crispy and hot, and the hand-caught scallops buttered to perfection. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that "casual" in Edinburgh was indeed casual as the word is interpreted in San Francisco. Well worth the visit!
F. W.
Tucked away but very pleasant atmosphere and terrific food. Service was superb with an almost homey feel. The Sticky Pudding for dessert was great!
B. h.
I was looking for a seafood restaurant with my Mrs. What we found was INCREDIBLE!! We had a seafood platter. Lobster, King crab, osters, scallops, mussels, clams. Honestly it was unbelievable. The shell fish was hot, sweet, juicy and easy to tell this was very high quality fresh shellfish. The hosting, service and wine was perfect. At first glance it seemed abit expensive, but we thought we'd treat ourselves. Apon receiving the food to the table we realised it was infact a bargin. The lobster, king crabs and scallops were humongous. We were very very impressed with this place. If we're ever in Edinburgh we most certainly will come back
S. Z.
Good fish and chips and awesome octopus! So good we were inspired to make another reservation to try the paella. Good safe location on Thistle street with other great businesses nearby.
M. S.
Brilliant fish dishes beautifully presented and importantly for us .... not too much food. Pleasant surroundings and friendly staff. Quality rather than quantity.
R. H.
Relaxed but busy centrally located restaurant. Each dish I ordered was very carefully seasoned. In other words they took the time and skill to balance even salad leaves. This takes effort and skill so hats off to the kitchen staff. Furthermore serving staff were able to answer all questions about beers and wines. Only down side was price. You wouldn't think we live on an island souronded by water full of fish when it costs so much for seafood. This is a universal issue however not just this place.
P. C.
Food and wine worthy of the price, lovely looking restaurant with well trained staff. They have their own style of jovial-ness that was right up our street, might not suit everyone but we enjoyed.
Teriyaki Salmon starter was delightful cooked. Halloumi salad with smoked Haddock had good proportions and lots of tasty salad extras
Will be coming back for sure!
J. P.
Always good here. The seafood is well prepared and presented. Seafood chowder was excellent as was the cod main course. Good service too.
E. F.
Celebrating turning 25 could only be done with a lovely meal at Fishers in the City with 3 of my closest friends. Fresh fish, a bottle of Prosecco and good company made for a fantastic night.
The food - mostly fish is flavour-some, fresh and beautifully presented. Even those not so keen on fish, can pick a delicious steak from the menu. The staff are helpful and friendly even engaging in a bit of chatter which is always nice.
C. M.
The meal was excellent good wine and good service, bathroom a little under standard
C. S.
Amazing food and great service. Price is on the mid to high range, but well worth it for the birthday treat that it was!! Would definitely visit again when next in Edinburgh!!!
I. B.
Posh fish dinner served in a relaxed atmosphere. Halibut was excellent and traditional haddock and chips with minted peas was yummy.
J. A.
Insanely good seafood and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. I had the hot shellfish platter and spent a heavenly half hour working my way through delicious lobster, langoustines, crab claws, scallop, razor clam, oysters, mussels and cockles.
A. P.
We liked this place!! Very fresh mossels, great beer, tasty wine. This place located outside of city centre buzz, but anyway easy to reach. Personnel is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
A. G.
Nice restaurant, friendly staff. Shellfish platter should be rather called "mussel platter"
S. B.
Warm welcome, lovely food! Predominantly fish as you would expect (it's in the name!) but beautifully prepared and presented. One of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh.
J. S.
Good seafood in a central location. The person waiting our table seemed a little indifferent but other staff were great. Good food and wine selection.
T. D.
Very friendly and accommodating Staff great ambience amazing food and not rushed in any way. Will return very soon. Very reasonable prices. A longstanding friend and I were there for an afternoon meal deal and were delighted we chanced upon this restaurant while at the Festival. G630TW Jill Dykes
S. D.
First time there at the City restaurant, after trying one in Leith about a year ago. We had 3 course set lunch for £18, excellent value for money in city centre location. Enjoyed our meal and would certainly go back again.
N. A.
The food was amazing, even the trout I usually find insipid, but beware the service: a waitress drank wine back in the kitchen when we asked her for the bill! Maybe it's because I'm used to living in London where the service is quick and efficient, but drinking wine and slacking back during work time is unacceptable!
W. J.
Fresh fish dishes excellent with a good variety to choose from.friendly and knowledgeable staff in a cosey invironent.
J. F.
Great food. Friendly staff that go tge extra mile. Must visit in Edinburgh.
A. J.
Lovely meal. Amazing seafood! Def go again.
C. I. U.
Nice place to have some fish and sea products. Recommended for a romantic night out.
L. T.
If I could give them 6 or even 8! Stars I would. We decided to do a food crawl our first day in Edinburgh and let our spidey senses take us on a culinary adventures. A lovely lady at one of our earliest finds, a tea and cake shop had recommended Fishers in Leith? So when we stumbled across Fishers in the City on the quaint cobblestone Thistle Lane we decided to pop in The afternoon and theatre special menu outside was somewhat different than the one presented to us when we sat down at this charming and might I add well air conditioned oasis. Note this was a record high day in the U.K. And many places weren't comfortable because of the high temps and humidity but in all honesty that was the icing on the cake. We decided to go for the large "smoked salmon platter". Well we are in Scotland and what could be more indigenous than Scottish smoked salmon. Omg. The platter included a generous portion of a number of local smoked fish...buttery smoked haddock just melted in our mouths bursting with delicate flavor of the delicious fish with hints of smoke that complimented it ...just impeccable..as was every single item on the platter!!! The silky gravalox brought out the best in the salmon, the smoked salmon was also silky, delicate, fresh and amazing. We've had some of the best the world has to offer in Small led and cured fishes and we've made our own. This was world class. A small salad of rocket dressed with unadorned yet sweet from the sea crab was divine. Would have loved more crab but savored every morsel. House pickled Cucumber rings were fantastic too. As was the brown bread and butter seemly simple factor but it compliments and adds to the enjoyment of the food. There was another pile of salmon salad? It was fine but lost points only because the stars of the platter were so elevated that it seemed ordinary yet still enjoyable. And I would be remiss if I didn't tell you about the herring. It was by far the most tender and silky herring we've ever enjoyed and we love herring. It had a delicate flavor which is quite a feat for herring which is often a very strong and "fishy" taste. again the impeccable freshness and quality of the fish was part of what made the herring and indeed the whole platter so enjoyable. We're only here for 3 days but are already figuring out what else we must try at Fishers!! And all the staff were friendly, professional and quite food savvy. We enjoyed this top stop on our self guided Edinburgh food safari immensely probably the savory highlight of the day !
L. C.
Amazing food, service and ambience. The perfect venue for a family dinner. Fresh seafood (plus some meat dishes) immaculately presented for a reasonable price. 5 star every time!
L. S.
Rang on the night. They said they had a cancellation and to come in. Service was excellent and everything we are was a) delicious and b) very fresh. It's not cheap but it's really good food and a lovely dining experience. Glad we got in.
S. R.
Staff were great...food was amazing best sea food I’ve had in an age the platter was incredible!! Will definitely be going again I’m from the midlands it’s worth the journey just to eat here !
T. O. M. a. t. S.
They were full the night I went, but I called before hand and was told to drop in. When I arrived the first come first serve seating was full, but the receptionist found me a table! I had the several orders of the oysters which were very fresh indeed.
L. J. (.
Good food, reasonable non-fish options as well as fairly extensive fish menu. Great ambiance and sensible prices. Would recommend.
L. K.
Excellent seafood options.. if only you could try them all!
C. M.
Such great seafood, will definitely go back
N. S.
Great food, lovely cozy place. Staff were good and polite. Little pricey, but seafood generally is
M. B.
If you like fish, this place is exceptional. Enormous scallops. The hake was immense. :-) Not the cheapest but didn't disappoint.
A. C.
Very possibly the best fish and chips that I have ever had - friendly staff who made us feel very welcome - we will definitely come again soon, keep up the good work!!!
N. B.
Excellent service and great food. Really worth trying if you are in the city. Ask about the lunch/pre-theatre menu - incredible value. Fish soup is really fantastic.
K. S.
First place I ever dined alone in! (Quite a big step for me, I like to chat) It was a busy festival time, I was rushed, really wanted fish and had wanted to try here for ages. I stepped in, got a table, ate the best fish and chips, and left. The staff looked after me well, I didn't feel like a saddo, bonus! Fisher is a staple of Edinburgh, you must try it. But book so you get your chosen time, don't chance walking by, it's busy!
G. K.
Fabulous food and service. Had a really enjoyable visit.
B. O.
Never disappoints. If you love fish, have a few pounds to splash and like to treat yourself in a formal restaurant setting. This is the place to be.

Top quality ingredients, cooked to perfection, amazing service and great value for money.... No I don't work there! Just a local who has been going for years and the standards never drop.
C.
Convenient location and quality seafood
g. m.
The younger sibling to Fishers in Leith. More Brasserie than bistro. Larger number of covers and a business oriented clientele during the daytime this restaurant is still good if not as intimate as it's Leith counterpart. Same attention to detail with the menu slightly more rounded for the non fish eaters out there. One advantage is that you can stay in town rather than disappear off to the harbour.
B. M.
Very enjoyable meal with friendly staff. We had two starters each , fishcakes and then mussels. The rosé wine was.good too
J. B.
Great wine selection, amazing staff and the food is perfect
K. Z.

Not bad. Fresh fish but a bit too rich in flavor to me. Pricey but affordable (roughly 40£ each). Beautiful place.
B. D.
Open all afternoon, great fresh food very well cooked, great wine and great service. You can eat on a moderate budget or spend more - quality either way.
D. O.
"excellent fish restaurant as fresh as they come; however do not like their ""two sittings"" style - have been asked to leave before puddings having spent a fortune on drink and food. shame i won't be visiting again."
H. B.
Outstanding fish, the seafood platter was a delight to consume. Staff are lovely.
