Went to gaucho to celebrate our brother's birthday, Great ambiance, elegant from the moment you walk in. We were met by a lovely lady at front house who was polite chatted away while we waited to be taken downstairs to our table. The service from our waitress was 10/10, she was super friendly & had a really good knowledge of the menu. Requested halal steak beforehand which was just amazing. The food & drinks were great from the bread to the starters to the mains, everything was just perfect. Highly recommend Gaucho!!!

Had a wonderful Sunday roast lunch there today. The meal was truly perfect. Our server was awesome and did a wonderful job. My meat was very pink which I loved and asked for however they can certainly cook it more. The tango cocktail was delicious. I never had roasted potatoes so crunchy. I would definitely suggest a visit here. Across from the park and very nice location very close to waverly station! They even helped us celebrate our anniversary.

The atmosphere is amazing. Me and my boyfriend were warmly welcomed by the staff, they were very polite. The smell when entering the place is very nice. The food was beyond delicious. I had a steak tartar and my boyfriend had a burata, both starters were amazing. But then the steaks were even better!!!

The second Gaucho's I've been too (Amsterdam being the other) and I will always be blown away by the taste of their steak, only ever bought the Chateaubriand (my favourite cut) with every bite I fall in love with the cut over and over again. Its pricey but so worth it. The best steak place I've ever been too and will always be my first stop when I find one on my travels. The pics are, buffalo mozzarella dough balls with chimichurri, 450g chateaubriand with chips and peppercorn sauce

Great steak. The Tira de Ancho, a spiral cut of ribeye slow-grilled with chimichurri, was very juicy, flavourful, and rightly grilled for medium rare – so tender and simply a must-try. The sirloin was also great, I would rather suggest other cuts though. We also shared a tuna tiradito as starter. A Peruvian dish with apparent Japanese influence, having sliced tuna (sashimi-like) in coconut milk and lime dressing. A nice and simple combination, very delicious. Besides, I love the cocktail Paddy’s Brew (whisky with cold brew coffee) a lot; the other one we had, La Pasion del Chocolate, would be better if it come with a stronger note of chocolate. And thank Gaucho for showing their great hospitality, with a lovely happy birthday chocolate plate for my wife’s birthday.

Overall it was pretty good. The sides were nice. The empanadas were incredible and authentic Argentina. The beef was only ok! By Argentina standards the meet was sub par. If I went again, I would order a bunch of empanadas and call it good.

Very dog friendly. I mentioned it was my dogs birthday on the booking and all the staff said hello and made him and us welcome. Setting and atmosphere were on point. The wine list looks really good. We had an excellent experience in Gaucho. It is a good place to eat meat. The reception was very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. We asked for a drink with lychee and it was amazing, I loved the taste. We had empanadas, it was delicious. We shared a big piece of Ribeye, very good cooked, with Mac and cheese. Dessert was a bit sweet, but amazing. It was a tray baked cookie dough! The perfect combination between warm and cold, we loved it.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose, as they say - on this occasion I certainly feel it was the latter; decor is nice (albeit there being no natural light, restaurant is located in the basement) but the atmosphere overall is very "aspiring", our waitress was efficient but not what I would describe as natural - sometimes you just feel it; most importantly - the food, which was mediocre at best. scallops were indeed nice, but that's not the main reason for us booking a table here, steaks were a massive let down, small they certainly were not, but size can't compensate for average flavour or execution. Our choice was spiral cut ribeye and sirloin, which were just so-so, ribeye perhaps winning by skin of one's teeth. We rarely not finish our greens but here could not bring ourselves to eat all of the sugar snap peas and spinach portions, to finish it all off - sauces did not rescue the whole situation. Can't imagine recommending Gaucho to anyone who's after good quality steaks. What a let down. Three stars are generous, should have been 2.5.

Having been to another steak house the night before, sadly this was a bit of anti climax from what we expected. Food was decent though and wine lovely. Decor of the place is outstanding and the toilets were really clean. My only disappointment was every one of our 7 steaks was over done. If you want a medium rare go rare, the chef seems to think a medium rare shouldn't be pink in the middle at all. Waiting staff however were absolutely fantastic. Will definitely give it another try though in the future.

Brilliant experience. All the staff were pleasant and the food was delicious. Prices are pretty high, but this ain't your average restaurant. Service was top notch. We used the BuyAGift voucher we got for a wedding present and it took £100 off the bill, otherwise starter, main and dessert for two + a bottle of wine would have been £150. Still, we will come back and I'll be trying the more varied menu.

Our meal was excellent with steaks succulent & cooked to perfection. The wine list is reasonably extensive with a focus on the mid to high end. The staff are always attentive & accessible - even on a busy Saturday night. Although it is set in the basement, the decor & lighting succeed in making this a pleasant space with more of an open party-type feel rather than the hushed reverence of a traditional high end restaurant. I would usually pick steak of course but I'm pregnant so didn't want to waste a good steak getting it well done. I got the chicken dish and was really disappointed. It was dry and very bland. On the menu it said it came with sugar snap peas so I would assume they'd be in the pod but I got them rolling about the plate and half rolled off when it was put infront of me. I'd try here again and have a steak but in no rush to.

Went for an office party. Sat in the private glass room so the ambiance was awesome. The server Alex was attentive and listened to my restrictions - am vegetarian - and suggested the best options. I took two starters - the beetroot tartare which was different and tasty. And the burrata tomato salad and toast that they prepared as a mains was just lip smacking tasty. King oyster mushrooms side was good as well. Surprisingly I had good vegetarian food in a steak restaurant!

Good, could be great, if they were to bother to be a little more authentic. First - the meat was amazing, we went for the Gaucho, and for three it was more than enough and more. Great value for what it was and the sirloin actually the tastiest vs the fillet. The starters was lacklustre apart from the bruschetta, which while is not Argentine, was divine. The empenandas were ok, but we had better from the pizza shop in BA and they folded them all wrong, with meat getting the ham and cheese fold etc. Poor understanding of tradition. Wine was good, and well priced for the place. The deserts were rubbish - basic ones from batch made factories and plopped onto a plate - just avoid. The number of Spanish speakers in the place - zero. The number of Argentines, less than zero. Our Italian waiter though was very good and attentive. All in, a great treat, but either be Argentine or not, the current halfway house is a travesty to the country.

My steakhouse of choice in Edinburgh was Miller & Carter, but that was untill I went to Gaucho in St Andres Square which is an Argentinian based restaurant. The steak was delicious, served quickly with excellent attention by the waiters. The restaurant is very well laid out and upmarket. Good social distancing with the waiters wearing facemasks. There is also wheelchair access.

Presentation was boring, brown lump in the middle of a white plate. Where's the colour and the garnish? At £30+ a main dish, a little artistry would have been welcome. Meat quality was good and staff was excellent.

Visited the restaurant as a birthday special and we have sat down at the ground floor. The appetiser bread and cheese rolls were great, the cheese roll was still a bit raw on the inside but it was not to the point of un cooked. For starter I ordered spiced corn soup and it is absolutely full of flavour and with the little spicy pepper on top it was amazing. The main course 4 steaks were freshly cut in front of us then the sides arrived, presented on a small plate along with the sauces. The steaks were requested as medium-well but the rib eye was still medium and to the point that I wouldnt really eat. The chips were really good but some of them were undercooked. The rump and the fillet were really at the point where i could not decide if it was so good or so better. As not big of a steak fan, I would have expected a little bit more but it was still good. For deserts I ordered a cheesecake with marshmallow, the cheesecake base was delicious but the sauce was a bit too strong flavored. Overall the feeling of the restaurant is mellow and welcoming. Would recommend this place for a meeting but not really for a little family.

If you love and appreciate steak this is the place for you. I had a lovely meal with my Wife, we started off with soft crab and scallops which were delicious. We followed this up with a Rump and Sirloin steaks which were fantastic and cooked to perfection. We had a 500ml of the Malbec to share which was just a perfect pairing. It is a little expensive but I felt it was worth it as the services was attentive but not intrusive in great surroundings.

Me and my partner were talking about wines and she mentioned she didn't like red wines and preferred white wines. Our server (sadly i didn't get his name) happened to hear us and recommended wines that would pair well with our steaks and her palette. I can not express in words how amazing our server was. After the meal we wanted to go out and asked the hostess for some places to visit. She created a whole itinerary for us, letting us know which club to visit 1st then the next one and the next. Completely made my girlfriend's birthday and made the night a night to remember. Can not recommend this place enough. Totally worth the price.

For a basement setting the modern decor simulating trees and the clever use of light made the space feel open and not claustrophobic or dark. The service is fantastic from the start and it's great to see such knowledgeable staff really understand and believe in their product, and take the time to explain it. We went with my husband, both Argentinians, to welcome the new year. We had a very good experience, I can say that the empanadas and the meat taste exactly like at home. The chef has managed the flavours very well and the food was delicious. We were served by Sophie who made us spend a beautiful evening, thank you Sophie for your kindness. We will surely come back, the place has a very nice vibe. If I had to suggest just one thing it would be to change the "chimichurri" on the menu, what we were served as chimichurri is in fact what we call in Argentina "salsa criolla" This is not a complaint at all because it was still a very good salsa criolla. But I think the public would really enjoy tasting the real Chimi. The staff deserve all the best, they were all so friendly and had the best energy even though they were working in the new year.

Fantastic service. Our waitress Wiola was wonderful. She explained the wines & steaks cuts with great detail. She also brought a chair into the disabled toilets so I could express (currently breastfeeding) in comfort and good lighting. The food itself was very tasty, cooked to perfection (my husband had medium rare & I had well done), the chips were delicious as were sides and home made sauces. This was our first romantic day out in over a year, Gaucho really made our day.

This was easily the best roast beef ever. The menu stated its was roast beef sirlon, so we were thinking it would be wafer like roast beef you get in most places. When it came out, the smell was amazing, thin cut sirloin and it was proper pink and melt in the mouth. It was a 2 course lunch menu we had in a Sunday in December, glad we popped in here.

Positives- Excellent food, great presentation of steaks by our waiter and lovely atmosphere. Negatives - A bit overpriced and service by staff at the entry to show tables and collect coats is below average. We had to wait 4-5 mins waiting for someone to gives our coats back from cloakroom (New year evening). Waiters noticed us, but no response. The girl who helped us attended, of course with a smile, but wholly ignored our wait with no apology. Just the programmed question; who the food was. So it was quite a disappointing impression at the end which persisted with us as we left.

The food was fantastic. The steaks were prepared just right. I recommend trying the platter where you get a taster of different cuts. It allows you to have a fully appreciation of the different experience from different cuts of beef. The legumes are prepared to perfection, fresh, crunchy and sweet. For dessert, do try the Dulce de Leche cheesecake. It's heavenly. The sweetness is not overwhelming. And the salt crystals occasionally explodes in your mouth to break through the caramel sweetness. Highly recommended.

Without a doubt I can say that this is The Best steak house in town. Stunning decour, best beef U can get in Edinburgh, lovely starters ( there is somerhing for everyone, but the scallops... OMG. Attended last night with two friends. Beautiful restaurant and very efficient,attentive staff. When our meal came it was barely warm. This issue was quickly dealt with, without any fuss. We were all disappointed when our new steaks arrived. Meat wasn't as tender as it could have been and there was no steaks knives which I thought was surprising,but we didn't want to complain again. Should also mention the tasty bread that was complimentary, a rare treat these days. The service was excellent. Attentive but not constantly in our faces. Price wise? Could be expensive but watch out for deals plus on a Monday it's BYOB. Definitely worth a visit for meat lovers.

The steak was excellent, the sauce and chips were standard, the space was sleek, but the service could be improved. The hostess looked like she could not manage very well. I arrived first, on the time of my booking and requested to wait on the table, however i had to wait some time at the welcome area standing for no obvious reason. I would be happy to wait at the bar if the table was not ready but it was not the case. When eventually sat on the table (alone) i waited form my company to arrive for about 10 minutes and the waiter never asked me if i wanted a drink. Basically i didn't get a drink until half an hour later since i arrived. The other thing that i did not like is that when eventually my company arrived, the waiter asked if we would like some water, and i said yes, and he asked sparkling or still and i said still, thinking it would be tap water. Apparently it was bottled water for approximately £4/bottle, which brought to the table open. He did not open it in front of us. The same happened with the second bottle. If i am being served bottled water, i would definitely liked to be served with the lid on and opened in front of me, or open it myself. The food was very good, but i have been to other places in Edinburgh with the same quality of food and better overall experience. It was my first time in Gaucho.

My previous visit to Gaucho was many years ago I Richmond, Surrey. I had never been back to one of the restaurants since, so after a great meal then, this review is based upon my expectations of a return visit. Our starters were average, in particular, £15 for 2 scallops was a touch expensive. Our steaks were lovely but, accompanying side dishes poor. My wife commented that the salad on offer with her steak was solely iceberg lettuce with a dressing. Desserts were had and I have to say they were reasonably tasty. The restaurant interior was suitably glamorous, and the staff, in the main, friendly and attentive. My thoughts are that Gaucho is now what I would qualify as a premium chain restaurant. I felt that on this occasion, for my wife and I, it did not hit the mark when taking the whole experience, and eventual costs, into mind.

Once we went downstairs to eat i was very pleasantly surprised at the large and well decorated dining room. The food was all of high quality and the portions were huge - as someone who eats a lot - i had no room for the very tempting deserts. Prices were rather steep compared to some other options in the city, but it's a decent place for a special meal out.

My daughter and her husband came to Gauchos in April for his birthday but didn't use the £50 voucher as they decided to go for the more expensive option. He gave the voucher to me so I could bring a friend who would never have normally been able to afford it. I have previously been there with them for various celebrations when we were treated with friendly and efficient service. My son in law is very worldy wise and impressive in a nice way as he is actually very self efacing to say how clever he is and what job he does. But with my friend I felt we were treated very differently with a rather distant and cold waiter who I presumed thought we were a bit below being able to afford Gauchos. I only ordered the cheapest red wine as my friend had offered to pay for it and she has had a really hard time financially through no fault of her own so I didn't want her to pay a lot for one bottle of wine. I myself don't normally drink so got a little wobbly after sharing the bottle. I had recently been quite ill and it was the first night I had been out for months. Yes, the steak was lovely but I was quite upset at the attitude of the man serving us. I won't really want to come again to Gauchos even though it is a favourite of my lovely son-in-laws. Plenty of other places to go....

If you like steak, this is a good choice if you want to splash out. The meat is very good, and cooked correctly to the level you order. Service is friendly, if a little on the slow side. The decor is a bit gaudy. Music is a bit in your face and the temperature control erratic. Wine list is good, if pricey. Note, you cannot try the 75ml glasses from the Coravin due to licencing laws in Scotland. The cheesecake dessert is not to be missed.

Absolutely the best steak I've ever had in Edinburgh. Argentine beef matured to tender perfection, so that it almost melts in the mouth. It's not cheap though, but if you're flying in beef from Argentina then I guess you can expect to pay these sorts of prices. Definitely worth a visit if you like a good steak. The Decor is trendy-nice, and the cocktails are pricey but excellent. Only criticism is that the restaurant is below street level, so the only windows with pleasant views of St Andrews Square are the upstairs seating area for pre-dinner drinks.

Amazing steak - the best I’ve had anywhere. I had looked at the menu online and had decided on the steak tasting plate. This branch has a Scottish section instead of this option which was disappointing - thankfully the chef agreed to make a tasting plate for me. It was amazing - the entrana fina & vacio cuts were incredible, I won’t forget them in a hurry. Reasonable wine selection (extensive Argentinian options) and well cooked greens to accompany the meat. Decor in the downstairs room is a little eighties and it took a few minutes to be shown our table for some unknown reason. None of this distracts from the quality of the food though, and I consider £70.00 per head reasonable value for the quality.

Expensive, and they often serve bad food, but usually they rectify it for free, which is a plus.

I lively Argentine restaurant selling a plethora of beef cuts all from Argentina, with the addition of one Scottish cut. The meat is all superb quality, as are the chips and mash. The serving platter for their main, which costs £100, is suitable for 4 people. You must order an extra side! There's definitely not an emphasis on vegetables, that's for sure. The cocktail menu is very good, with a wide variety of Gins and a good few Whiskys. The wine selection it's exclusively Argentinian, specialising in Malbec.
