Reviews of Greenwoods Edinburgh
M. D.
Nice little Café. Very friendly staff, the cappuccino was great but a little small for my liking. 😃 Eggs Benedict very tasty, the bread a little dry though. The pancakes very delicious and not too sweet. Fresh orange 🍊 juice! A definite recommendation but you must reserve upfront. Ask for a seat at the window! We will come again! Thanks for the perfect service and food!
R.
Super good brunch place with whimsical also classical atmosphere and attention to details. The food is really delicious. I ordered lunch menu Mexican melt and it taste divine with very nice textures buns. The orange juice is very good from high quality orange for sure. Usually I am pretty picky foodie paying attention to food taste, service and interiors and this restaurant satisfy all :)
S. ..
Initially I went to try some dessert, I thought I would find waffles on the menu but they don't have and I tried the scrambled eggs which was a very good choice. The portions are very large, I couldn't finish my meal, the eggs were super creamy and delicious.
The decor is great, very nice and welcoming. all the details are incredible nice.
K. M.
Excellent place for an early breakfast….I suspect it may get busy later in the day. British with Dutch touches, I loved the modern Delft porcelain and Dutch countryside fresco. Excellent food, fresh and tasty, we had banana bread with mascarpone and veggie breakfast. Would definitively come back!
S. J.
This was the first place we went in Edinburgh (almost 6 months ago so I'm SORRY for the delay) and it was so lovely!
The breakfast was huge and delicious, we had a gorgeous sunny spot in the window and after chatting with lovely Jen about our weekend plans she offered some great recommendations and brought me birthday banana bread - so gorgeous of her!
The place is really cool inside, my boyfriend and I talk about this breakfast (eggs especially) all the time and really hope to go back. :)

This place is amazing! We were walking by looking for a brunch spot and we thought it would be a nice place. The restaurant was packed when we came in but the hostesses were so kind and were able to seat us very quickly. To drink I had their Ginger Beer which was delicious and to eat their Banana Bread Tumble which was also very tasty. I even tried some of my mom’s Eggs florentine which was just as delicious. Great spot for a brunch!

Excellent service and brunch from Greenwoods today. The staff were kindly, friendly and the decor is great. Tastiest pancakes I’ve had in a very long time! Will definitely come back.
B. C.
It's no exaggeration to say that this was the best meal I've ever eaten. The homemade ginger beer had a lovely bite without being overpowering. The blend of flavors on both the chicken chimichurri sandwich and the banana bread tumble (with bacon) were perfect. The portions were exactly right, the service was great, and even the prices were fantastic! Can't recommend enough.
A.
This is by far the best breakfast I've ever eaten.
Me and my partner were away for our engagement and were looking at places for breakfast following our stay.
The photos looked great but was incomparable to the food, spectacular.
The staff are friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere inside. Thanks again
K. W.
Cute little spot for brunch! I ordered the Emperor Eggs Royale (pictured) which was lovely, although one of the hash browns was very salty (almost inedible). My boyfriend enjoyed his brunch, but felt it was too small. Other than that it’s a great place with friendly staff!
L. M.
An absolutely incredible breakfast experience! All the dishes are made fresh and super unique. Not to mention one of the best Chai’s I’ve ever had!
Highly recommend! Make sure to reserve in advance!
G. W.
We had the full cooked breakfast and the eggs Benedict. Portions were decent, not huge but the right amount. The staff were happy to add in an additional hash brown to the eggs Benedict.
Coffee was strong, the orange juice was fresh.
Nice staff and a nice atmosphere too. If you can, get a window seat and enjoy the people watching.
B. H.
Amazing breakfast stack pancakes 🥞
I would fully recommend this place for breakfast, brunch, and everything in between. Bacon, sausage, egg, tomato - and pancakes and maple syrup!
Not only is the food amazing, but the staff are warm and friendly and the decor is cosy and modern.
We had a table by the window so got to see Edinburgh waking up whilst we ate, which was lovely too.
Thankyou Greenwoods for a star breakfast ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
K. H.
Lovely setting in an easy to find place. The hostess managed to slot us into a table within 30 mins.
I had stalked their Instagram in the weeks leading up to our Edinburgh visit, and was desperate to try their banana bread tumble. It did not disappoint. What I will say, is if you can't manage much sweetness, it's not for you. However, it's a try before you die dish.
My partner had the Scottish breakfast, which he said was stunning. Highly recommend.
S. P.
By far the best Breakfast in Edinburgh! Great location a walkable distance away from the hustle and bustle of the City. I had the eggs benedict which was by far the best version of this dish I have had 🍳 My boyfriend had the full Scottish breakfast which included Haggis, never tried it before but it was delicious! A special mention to J.C (James) for the best service we have had during our stay in Edinburgh, he was very attentive and entertaining. When we return some day this will be our stop for food! 🏴💙
E. A.
This was literally the best breakfast and the best caffe experience I’ve evr had in my life. Great staff, great food. Oh god just go there for breakfast you’ll understand what I mean.
N. G.
My favourite local brunch place with really friendly staff and generous portions. Highly recommend trying the homemade soda bread and hash browns as they are incredible. Recommend booking ahead if you're planning on eating during the weekend as they can get pretty busy.
C. K.
Newly opened around 3 months ago and already one of the best breakfast places I've been too! Gives single end a run for its money. The food they prepare is done to the next level and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Would highly highly recommend trying this place if you haven't already!!
N. A.
Beautiful breakfast with great service. Highly recommend the Scottish breakfast and the pancakes. Coffee was nice too
J.
I got the vegetarian breakfast and she got the vegan breakfast. They were both delicious and came with thick slabs of bread. Very vegetarian friendly and friendly servers.
a. i. F.
Came here for brunch and we ordered the full Scottish and eggs royale. The quality of the food is brilliant, presentation is nicely done and massive portions. Hash browns were amazing! Staff are really nice too and the overall experience is good 😊 I highly recommend it if you are looking for the perfect brunch place in Central Edinburgh.
H. M.
Food was great, with a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to request. Will visit again when in Edinburgh
E. M.
Literally the best breakfast I have had ever. I had the breakfast stack and it was so good I immediately booked and returned the next day, I had the banana bread this time and was just as impressed and very full.
D. V.
I gone there for breakfast. Very delicious plates and nice coffee. Also the staff is so happy and kind!
M. W.
My favorite breakfast/brunch spot in Edinburgh, Greenwood’s is a popular spot with others as well! Seriously delicious, high quality and local fare, it’s located in the city centre, on Frederick Street. Beautiful interior. I’ve had breakfast, brunch and lunch here. Everything was delicious. (See photo.) And the service was excellent! Wonderful owner.
D. C.
Brilliant!!!!
Staff are REALLY lovely, friendly and welcoming.
There are gluten free options available
The restaurant has a great atmosphere (kudos who did the design).
Brunch was delicious and filled us up.
Suggestion: pancake stack
Veggy breakfast was delicious and not greasy.
Owner is lovely and accommodating
A real gem in Edinburgh
A. R.
We visited Greenwood’s for breakfast and it was excellent.
I opted for the Full Scottish and my wife ordered the pancakes. They were very accommodating to her requests and the service overall was excellent.
Highly recommended.
M. K.
We loved brunch there, tried several dishes which were all very good. We kept returning there, which proves how much we liked it. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was so welcoming.
S. B.
Really great experience. Lovely breakfast. I had the pancake stack and it was super tasty. They are a great selection of teas too (and other drinks as well). Staff was friendly. Ambience was just right. Would definitely recommend.
C. H.
I was looking for a restaurant that served breakfast/brunch after 12PM, and stumbled upon Greenwoods. To my surprise, it was the best cooked breakfast I have ever had! The staff were friendly and the place had a unique aesthetic. Highly recommended for a breakfast or lunch.
H. V.
Delicious spot for breakfast and lunch. A nice concise menu with everything you would want, all in a lovely clean cafe with pretty exterior. Staff were very friendly and what we ordered as a group of 4 we were very happy with.
j.
Went here today with a friend. I’d definitely say it’s a place more for food than a cup of coffee - the sizes of coffee are very small as you can see from the picture and quite expensive as well - I didn’t have but my friend enjoyed (boutique coffee is not my bag at all but I get some people like it). It’s quite small on the inside and the toilets are clean - the male bathroom window was wedged open and was quite awkward as it felt like people could see in.
The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The food was nice - I had the breakfast without black pudding - no offer of substitution for an additional something was offered but I didn’t ask so don’t know if that’s something which can happen. It’s a nice brunch spot and more on the higher end of pricing.
M.
I’d booked a table on Saturday for brunch with a friend. Although we arrived on time we did have to wait for 10 mins before our table was available. I ordered the Emperor’s Eggs Royale and the peach Bellini and absolutely loved it. The hash browns that arrived as a part of my dish were absolutely divine and the best part. The ambience was very cozy and relaxed as well.
L. L.
Great service, big portions, mediocre food. Beautiful atmosphere. My tofu “egg” had too much curry so I did not feel like finishing it
M. E.
Lovely food in a cosy environment. We didn't get mushrooms with our breakfast which were supposed to be included which was a shame but what we did have was really tasty. We were told that we had one hour which, although plenty of time (because the food arrived so quickly), it made us feel unnecessarily rushed.
V. Y.
I found this breakfast place very nice and inviting. The staff is friendly and polite, the interior is relaxing and the menu looks great!
All the food we ordered was good! Particularly enjoyed their original chai latte which was one of the best I had. The banana bread tumble is also quite a treat! I’m giving this place a 4 but I would love to be able to give it a 4.5. The reason it wasn’t an exceptional experience was because the pancakes in the pancake stack were rather deflated and chewy. I would have appreciated if the chef made a separate batch when they saw it wasn’t working out, rather than serving them. Also, my half of a hash brown was burnt to a crisp as you can see below- so I think abit more attentiveness on what they send out is still needed. All in all though, very good.
C. S.
Best porridge in town and very friendly staff! Wish you guys were also in Oxford. Will definitely come back for it🤗
V. M.
Great spot for brunch, frequented by locals. Staff were friendly and attentive. We had the “pancake stack”which was yummy on a rainy day. Lovely flavour and great portion sizes. Would go again.
A. D.
Elegant breakfast and lunch restaurant. Portions are very big. Ingredients are tasty and fresh. Totally recommend!
A. K.
Visited for breakfast, got a great seat in the window over looking the street. Food quality was great- tried the Eggs Florentine and Veggie breakfast. Really enjoyed both- especially the veggie haggis. The soda bread bread was also good and fueled us up for the day. Highly recommend!
R. R.
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful place, very clean, staff friendly and efficient, eggs poached perfectly, rich and well presented.
Booking recommended, they are very busy.
r. s.
Was not disappointed with this great new addition to Edinburgh. Lovely cozy welcome atmosphere and great friendly service. They have a good choice of different dishes for brunch and lunch. A real highlight had to be the traditional Dutch apple pie. Being married to a Dutch man I can say with confidence it was perfect. Can't wait to come back and try the banana bread (and have more apple pie)
D. M.
Don’t often leave reviews but the food here was just incredible. Best breakfast of the whole trip, I’d literally go back to Edinburgh just to have it again. Great customer service too and a lovely spot to begin your day. Highly recommend it
D. L.
Greenwoods is the perfect place for Brunch in Edinburgh, serving up a variety of savoury and sweet treats to set you up for the rest of the day!
The location is perfect for watching the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh whilst enjoying a coffee at a leisurely pace.
This place should definitely be on your itinerary!
M. G.
Mmm mmmm mmmmm & service fab! Good value! The best eggs Florentine anywhere, by far! Husband had Chimichurri vegi ciabatta (usually a big meat eater) because he hadn’t realised it was meat free when he ordered it….. it was deeelicious!! Then Banana Tumble for desert…….. can’t wait to go back again. Lovely friendly staff, excellent service, loved the atmosphere!
Great that you get a jug of water as soon as you sit down…..love that in any eatery!
J. K.
We absolutely loved our visit here we went for breakfast made sure to reserve a space as it seemed very popular the food was probably the best breakfast I can remember ever having scrambled eggs Cooke dhow they should be the homemade hash brown was soo tasty aswell as the haggis my partner's banana bread breakfast was just as incredible the staff extremely accommodating and friendly with 100% be back here when next in Edinburgh.
C. W.
Greenwood's is a great brunch place! I went for the eggs benny and my partner ordered the full breakfast, we both had a bucks fizz cocktail which was so good! Might be slightly pricey but worth it.
M. A.
Amazing place and really nice and sweet waitress. Food was delicious
S. A.
I had the breakfast stack with scrambled eggs, homemade ginger beer and a coffee. Love place, staff and food. Definitely recommend booking, as very busy place. Just be aware that there's a slight draft from the aircon.
E. D.
Food was delicious. I had the eggs Benedict with a side of sausages. Herself had scrambled eggs with bacon and hash brown. No complaints about the food. Freshly squeezed orange juice also delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.
S. S.
I’ve been to many brunch places around Edinburgh but Greenwoods is one of my favourites. It’s cozy and warm but with a classy Edinburgh-like aesthetic; staff is nice and friendly and the food (especially the banana bread tumble) definitely hits the spot :) I highly recommend it but remember it gets busy on weekends.
K. N.
Great breakfast or brunch spot! Do reserve in advance as it gets rather busy
S. W.
We were visiting Edinburgh and were recommended to go to Greenwoods.
I was so glad they could fit us in because they were so busy!
The full Scottish breakfast was amazing and so tasty! My boyfriend loved the pancakes with the bacon and maple syrup.
I loved the homemade hash brown, it was so nice.
Really lovely, friendly staff too, just a lovely place to have breakfast.
T. M.
Been several times and great food every time!
If you’re looking for a great breakfast with a slight twist then this is the place.
Good portions too
L. K.
Delicious food, excellent service. We'll no doubt be back again to try more of the menu! I can definitely recommend the Emperor's Eggs Royale - delicious.
E. S.
Nice place and good service. The food is quite interesting and tasty. I loved the fresh mint tea!!!
R. S.
Me and my girlfriend went here for breakfast for our second day in Edinburgh. The cafe is quite small but the character and design inside is amazing.
There is a good option of food on the menu which came out as expected when ordered and was absolutely tastey. The service here is very friendly and welcoming and speedy as long as you dont accidently call their scottish breakfast and English breakfast.
Would go here again thank you for a lovely time.
G. M.
Lovely place. Beautiful food- and staff were lovely. The banana bread is amazing.
D. T.
Amazing food, good atmosphere, but you have to make a reservation online because they're often full.
R.
So friendly place, I have tried very delicious banana bread 🍞
M.
Loved this restaurant so much, such a cute little place, staff were so friendly and sweet, full Scottish breakfast was one of the best I've ever had
M. V.
Very friendly and helpfull staff. The food is good with a twist. The menu is simple and above average.
If in Edinburgh I will go back.
M. E.
Fabulous service, food and setting. Great chat with the owner too about the history of the restaurant and the artwork on the wall! A must try for brunch or lunch.
E.
Cozy place with amazing food. Particularly recommend "The Pride" - delightful combination of flavours and very well done. Speculaas hot chocolate also tasty and comforting when hiding from the rain!
S. T.
excellent new breakfast brunch lunch venue. Had a fantastic full pancake stack and banana bread tumble
J. H.
Fantastic breakfast in a tastefully decorated, traditional, cafe/restaurant. The Eggs Benedict was superb!
A. W.
Had a great lunch here. Defo recommend it

S. H.
Delicious. I’d recommend booking in advance
L. H.
Wonderful place to have breakfast or brunch and have energy for the rest of the day. During our stay in Edinburgh, as long as we could, we had breakfast in Greenwoods. Great food (try a Full Scottish Breakfast 😉) and great staff. Already missing you back in our country.
K. L.
Lovely staff and very accomadating, even swap our veggie breakfast on the spot due to alum allergies that i forgot to mention. Tasty food and great service.
T. P.
Amazing breakfast and coffee with lovely staff in a pretty venue
S. H.
Had a banana tumble for brunch and it just 'hit the spot'.
Staff were lovely, helpful and managed to find us a table although we hadn't booked!
Will definitely return here next time I'm in Edinburgh.
A.
We had excellent veggie breakfast today at 9:02. Food was tasty and kinda balanced in terms of taste and healthy nutrition.
Cafe was almost full at 9:10 (10 minutes after open)
S. B.
Absolutely lovely service and wonderful food. They made the best coffees I'd had in Edinburgh and their breakfasts are just incredible! We visited during our trip to Edingburg and ended up visiting Greenwoods both mornings because of how good it was!!
R. L.
Had a great atmosphere inside, food was incredible and I will definitely be returning here next time I am in Edinburgh. Staff friendly and attentive too.
T. H.
People! You got to try the chai latte at this place. You won't regret it! - Overall great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
F. M.
Very nice, would definitely recommend the full Scottish breakfast, wasn’t a massive portion but definitely enough
J. B.
Lovely place. Delicious (all day) breakfasts and coffee in a warm, cosy and stylish environment. Waiting staff were really friendly and efficient. Great!
J. C.
Had a lovely brunch at Greenwood’s today. Ordered a latte which came with a sprig of mint, and the “Breakfast Stacks” which came with pancakes, bacon, herbed sausage, two eggs(I ordered poached), and hash browns with chives and fresh cream with Cajun seasoning. Everything was lovely, but the pancakes came out flat. However, the server noticed and was quick to have the chef make a new order of pancakes, which I very much appreciated.
They hold themselves to a higher standard- the food was delicious and well-seasoned, and the iced latte was the best I’ve had in Edinburgh so far. Will be coming back with my partner.
J. J.
Excellent Scottish breakfast 👌 10/10
C.
Place is superb. Quality and cooking of the food is great. Menu is great. Full Scottish breakfast is amazing, pancake stack I could eat that on the daily. Service is always outstanding too. Can't wait to go back.
S. M.
Really friendly attentive staff -JC was The Best !! Food is really tasty and decently priced. Great looking Bistro . Totally will be back !
l. c.
The best breakfast I’ve ever had! A bit pricey in my opinion but really worth the money. Everything tasted 10/10 and the hot chocolate was very nice. A shame they didn’t have breakfast tea in but aside from that a 10/10 experience.
P. B.
The atmosphere is very nice and the food is amazing!!! The service was outstanding! I highly recommend this place! It’s a must try!
C. L.
Had the open steak sandwich on the specials board. Outrageous. Best lunch I’ve had in a very long time.
B. W.
Food was very very good and it didn’t take long between ordering and receiving the food. However, the only negative was that we felt almost pushed out after we finished our meal. As soon as we finished they brought the bill over and then the card machine, without asking for either. Overall a lovely brunch but felt rushed out as if they wanted to squeeze someone else in.
l. k.
an awesome place with great coffee great food, and super kind staff! highly recommended.
R. M.
Lovely lunch with the family. Staff were wonderful with the kids and the food was outstanding 😍
E. T.

I had visited their Amsterdam branch and wanted to see if it was as good.
Delighted to say that this new restaurant is impressive.
Simple, tasty menu, cosy atmosphere.
I recommend the bacon & pancake dish, and their signature apple pie was amazing. We will return.
T. L.
Excellent, super tasty and delightful staff and ambience. Full Scottish brilliant and pancakes a delight!
S.
Really enjoyed the veggie breakfast 😋
D. K.
I was super excited that a new breakfast place had opened up in Edinburgh that serves pancakes for breakfast. I wasn't disappointed!
Greenwoods is fresh and beautiful inside. Airy but cozy.
It was a quiet morning and the staff were very attentive.
The pancake stack was huge and fully loaded with bacon, sausage, egg, delicious potato rotti and plenty of maple syrup was available.
Coffee was perfectly roasted and well brewed. Just an americano so I cannot comment on the quality and skill of frothed milk.
The freshly squeezed orange juice was possibly the highlight of the breakfast!
Well done Greenwoods and good luck with the business.
S.
The best breakfast and lovely staff. Two pretty good combinations. ❤️
L. P.
Just as good as in Amsterdam. My favourite Dutch restaurant is finally in my favourite city
j. m.

My personal favourite...Banana Bread Tumble - wowwww! I can't wait to visit again and bring my family next time. Everyone and everything was 5 star. Thank you!
J. D.
