Reviews of La P'tite Folie
D.
Very lovely French restaurant with tasty food and excellent service. We had a starter and then the meat, that was tender and perfectly cooked. The Crème Brulée is delicious. A place to come back to.
M. W.
The food was absolutely amazing! Reasonable price and great service. I would highly recommend to anyone. Will definitely visit again in the future. :)
S. J.
Lovely little french restaurant, beautiful old building. Friendly staff, and very tasty food. Good selection of wine. Very enjoyable and would return again. Recommended.
E. C.
Authentic French Bistro 2 minutes away from Princes Street.
Never dissapointed, good quality food and cook to perfection. Affordable prices. If you arive early you can get a cozy corner table. If you arive even earlier, there is a wine bar downstairs.
C. B.
Excellent fune dining. Great choice of food and wines. Staff were all friendly abd helpful. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.
D. P.
Classic menu, lovely food. We will definitely be back!
G. C.
A little gem on a side street with some real French vibe.
P. C.
Excellent French cuisine with a modern twist. They do a delicious Christmas menu of 3 dishes for a little over 20 pounds and it is so worth it. The building itself is lovely, so definitely a place to come back on a special occasion
D. S.
Excellent food as always, beautifully presented and reasonable cost even from the a la carte menu. Good deals at lunchtime. Friendly service
A. S.
Excellent lunch, lovely staff and good price. First time l have been here but it won't be my last
D.
The food was divine, the service exceptional. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting fine dining at a reasonable price.
S. H.
Always a warm and friendly welcome. Great menu, delicious food, presented beautifully.
R. F.
I went on a date here, it was really romantic, very Parisian and not pretentious. The food was out of this world, we both loved it. The only thing I would say is the floors had a bit if litter on them. Other than that fabulous!
G. H.
Very good meal. Wonderful mussels and pigs cheeks followed by a ribeye and lamb shank. It’s all fresh, with great quality food cooked to perfection. Good wine list. Best meal out this year.
K.
Lovely Christmas lunch. Starter not fantastic but main blade beef in peppercorn sauce and cheese course were amazing. Service great also. I would go back.
N. M.
Overall great lunch food in an attractively designed and set dining room. Service is good but unexceptional.
Lunch starters are just okay, but still worth the two course price. The poached coley I had was excellent. Beautifully cooked, great sauce, great mash. Could have used more vegetables, but that's just me. Curious about the poached egg being cooked a little over medium. Perhaps it was meant to be that way, but for me it's an error, and should be softer. Creme brulee was fantastic, could hva emaybe used more sugar and darker. Other than a few small gripes, great meal.
J. R.
Superb. Sat outside on a cool September day in bright warm sunshine with stunning wines, mussels and fish (hake). Highly recommended. (Please ignore the dog treats- they keep him calm!)
L. T.
Great food. Great service. Definitely will come back again
J. H.
I recommend this place, really good service and food. Do not loose the opportunity to have a lunch on la p’tite folie and book à table !
J. L.
I don't know anything about authentic French food but the food are delicious and staff are very friendly, would recommend.
c. a.
Always love lunch here - the food is always delicious and the place has a real buzz about it.
F.
Nice restaurant with food served in an upstairs cozy environment. I would have scored higher but having been a couple of times the quality of food and service has fluctuated between superb and mediocre.
R. M. M.
Fabulous gem of a restaurant in a fascinatingly unusual building. Good French bistro food for a reasonable price. Excellent fresh ingredients. Friendly and effective service.
A. K.
Lovely little place. Menu maybe not the biggest selection you’ll see but whatever you choose I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Attentive staff making sure you’re well looked after.
Been 3 times now & will keep coming back. Love this wee gem of a restaurant:)
R. M.
Great to be able to return to La P'tite Folie - service, food, ambiance and wine range still superb. Having enjoyed a leisurely a couple of days ago I already look forward to my next visit. It also merits mention that a follow on drink in front of the Le Di-Vin, downstairs, rounded off a most enjoyable visit.
L. B.
Very friendly staff, good food, could be a bit more covid sorted, ie. Clean tables outside inbetween customers.
G. H.
Beautiful French restaurant, cozy atmosphere & food was excellent 👌
T. K.
We had steak and it was delicious, very friendly staff
S. W.
Nice restaurant, with friendly staff. Mussels for starters were large and delish. Ordered rare steak and it was medium... not to be expected in a French restaurant. Otherwise 5 stars.
L. B.
Consistent, high quality, reasonably priced seasonal menu of delicious fish, meat and vegetarian delights. Great wine list, friendly service in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend.
S. B.
Love it here. Love the bar, the food, the drinks, the ambiance, the staff - all good.
C. G.
Atmosphere great. Food very good as is the service. We love this place!
C. P.
Excellent food and service. Mussels as a starter to die for. I loved the sirloin whilst others in party had the lamb described by them as wonderful. Top marks Chef.
J. S.
Pure charm and a very nice atmosphere.. we had a meat a cheese board.. gosh yummy.. washed down with some.fine wine.. life is good x
S. N.
One of our favourite places. Food excellent staff wonderful and would happily recomend.
D. R.
Great food, cooked very well indeed.
The wine bar is casual and trendy with a great atmosphere.
The veltliner was slightly disappointing, as it seemed to have been open a while and lost its zippy character. This was the only flaw throughout my visit.
I'd definitely recommend La P'tite Folie to anyone looking for a great atmosphere and a fab plate of food.
Thanks very much!!
J. B.
Good fun and excellent service -enjoyable
W. A.
Fantastic food and nice atmosphere
L. B. L.
The outdoor tables catch the sun all afternoon so if you're looking for a social drink without being indoors this is a great location for fresh air in the heart of Edinburgh's West End. A perfectly sunny autumn day today made it the ideal spot. (indoors is quite nice too 👍)
Friendly staff and a good wine list. Delighted that they have Frost Pocket Sauvignon Blanc.
J. H.
Very reliable neighborhood bistro type place. Good value set lunch and good wine bar downstairs.
D. E.
Great set menu. Great atmosphere. Great professional Staff. Great fresh and presented food. Clean, but decor needs a refresh. Otherwise get along you won't be disappointed.
P. J.
Awesome food.
Good service
Lovely place
C. S.
This is a fantastic little wine bar in the west end of Edinburgh city centre. The just off main street location makes it feel almost tucked away and a cosy. The interior is very welcoming always clean, tidy and warm. The selection of wines are great and the house wines are delicious. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, all in all a lovely place to meet for a drink and nibble anytime.
J. C.
Great food and high standard of customer service. Following good covid-safety regimes so felt comfortable and wouldn't hesitate in booking return visit.
K. L.
Five friends visited this week. Very busy ,we had booked so no issues. Staff very friendly , service for a two course meal was excellent. Food beautifully cooked and presented. Would recommend.
C. R.
Great wine selection, served at the right temperature too. You might end up standing on a Friday night, but there's a nice buzz about the place. Not somewhere to go for a few beers, I think they only have Guinness and a few lagers.
N. N.
Good menu. Tasty food and good service
J. M.
Great food in a lovely restaurant.
K. T.
Excellent service. Food amazing. What more can we say. Favourite place in Edinburgh.
A. H.
Wonderful set lunch at reasonable price and good wine selection. Would have been 5* but too many large groups on Sat which made it soooo noisy. Probably better midweek.
E. P.
Excellent lunch. Had a chance two weeks later to sample some French dining in southern France and both the food and service were comparable to what was top rated in Albi and the surrounds.
m. s.
Delightful town centre bistro with a fine menu.....mussel starter excellent and pork just right...5 star
G. S.
Lovely food. Friendly service. A bit noisy
A. C.
Had a great meal with friends..mussels were fab staff were friendly what's not to like
J. R.
Good food and a cosy family atmosphere
F. G. S.
Had lunch today, my friend and I had steak frites, good but I was there for lunch on 21st August and the steak frites was excellent!!Today, disappointed as the steak was very pale as were the frites, the pepper sauce was also too thin!Still a lovely place to eat and I'm returning tomorrow evening with my sister!
K. K.
Very cosy atmosphere and friendly staff.
C. B.
Good food. My moules marinieres were plump, succulent and within a tasty broth. Similarly my cod fillet was fresh, delicate and perfectly cooked with samphire and a flavoursome broth. Service was very good and our Muscadet wine was crisp and cool. The only thing that was rubbish was dessert menu. Only one French item on it. No crème brulee, no mousse au chocolat and no tàrte tatin.
S. H.
Staff were very friendly and professional. Meal was very nice
M. S.
Excellent food, reasonable prices and very friendly and evergetic staff. Also the atmosphere is very cosy.
J. F.
Good food, great staff, not as expensive as you might think. A very pleasant place.
R. G.
I thought this place was brilliant - very French, but not intimidating to novices like myself. The staff were friendly, the food was delicious and we were welcome to take as long as well liked. Highly recommend.
U. S.
Lovely fresh food and tasty vine, very friendly and helpful staff, good location. Nice decor. Highly recommended for a memorable meal.
A. D.
Lovely location and food is amazing - great atmosphere.
A. B.
I have just come back from la p'tite folie, and couldn't find a single fault. We had a 3 course meal and wine for £100 for 2. For some this might seem a lot, but the food is exquisite. I had a cheese and caramelised onion tartlette to start, followed by the Aberdeen angus beef fillet and the chocolate nemesis to finish. Accompanied by a perfectly chilled bottle of Beaujolais. The tartlette was a perfect mix of sweetness from the onions and savoury with a tang from the cheese on a deliciously light filo pastry, the beef was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection, so juicy with the most rich sauce and a delightful stack of cheese rich gratin, and the chocolate dessert was light and sumptuous with just the right amount of ooze. As a regular traveller to France, I would have to say this meal was as delightful as any I have had during my visits to Paris. Highly recommended.
C. R.
One of my and my family’s favourite dinner spots in the city. It’s a beautiful building with delicious dishes - the sirloin steak frites is a classic I can barely move past on the menu!
C. W.
One of our favourite places. Lovely food and ambience. Great, attentive team.
I. H.
Excellent food, superbly cooked and presented. Pleasant surroundings, efficient staff.
Problem will be getting a reservation.
N. E.
Good food and service. Recommend. Lunch menu is very reasonably priced and some lovely dishes
P. S.
Wonderful food, beautiful surroundings and very helpful staff. An enjoyable lunch experience
J. G.
One of the best French restaurants in Edinburgh. The lunch menu is affordable but the dinner à la carte tends to get a bit more expensive. Worth it though!
N. S.
Excellent value, wonderful mussel starter, good service today downstairs from a Hungarian waiter. Always lovely food at a very reasonable price. Thank you, Mr Norman.
L. P.
Lovely French ambience. Food is always delicious.
P. G.
Le Di-vin is the wine bar next to / as part of La P'tite Folie and it's a great place for wine. Long wine list, a lot by the glass, and a nice larger airy place to enjoy the wine, with a mezzanine area at the back the can be reserved for parties. Only a few things on draft but one of them is Estrella Galicia - a cleaner lager that's very unusual to see outside of Spain.
B. H.
Great restaurant. Every year I am in town for a conference we always have a meal at this restaurant and it is always really good.
R. D.
Very good restaurant. We go before the rugby. Lovely food. I would highly recommended it. Fantastic lunch menu.

Love this restaurant and the food- but unfortunately I've always felt rushed here as each time Ive visited the second -sitting diners were due to arrive shortly after we had finished our meal - problem for me because of its popularity
S. M.
