Very classy underground restaurant with unique decor. Food was outstanding, the Brisket burger was very filling, the banana sponge pudding a bit small. The Waitress could talk for Scotland in the Olympics 🤣 but extremely friendly. Good WiFi too

Finally had a chance to take my friends to Lady Libertine, I’ve been telling them how amazing the food is since my first time here! We almost ordered the whole menu 😅 (5 people), the pictures do not include the desserts: Sourdough bread, Baba ganoush, Fried olive & feta balls, Large Calamari, Roasted butternut squash, Truffle & parmesan fries, Ox cheek croquettes, Slow cooked lamb shawarma, Banana sponge, Hazelnut & dark chocolate brownie. A few comments about the food – it is seriously good. Such strong, well-blended flavours, genuinely impressive! For the savoury courses, I would highly suggest ordering a bit of everything and sharing it all. The desserts we tried were not very suitable for sharing so for next time, we’ll order them individually. Please please order the baba ganoush and the butternut squash, you will not regret it! My only note for improvement – it was my first time trying the lamb shawarma here, it tasted a little gamey (?), maybe could have been marinated a little longer. Have to mention that the service was really good as well, they have a very attentive team who helped us in choosing our dishes. All in all will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu!

Food is an easy 10/10, cocktails to match. The service and friendly staff elevate the place to top class. We had a quick chat to one of the bartenders and when he found out we were only visiting Edinburgh for a few days he wrote us out a list of other bars and restaurants to visit on our stay that we would enjoy.

Great place for properly made cocktails and staff who know their drinks. A lot better to have a cocktail or two here rather than some of the main chains whom have lost their touch on cocktail theatre and experience. Boom early. I prefer the basement bar. We saw dogs in there and they are also welcome. ( just need to get our own). Reasonably priced and worth the visit.

We came for some drinks and a light dinner. Our server, Martha, was class. Super attentive and informative. One of our party was vegan - Martha talked us through all our options and gave us the option to alter non-vegan-friendly dishes. Food was phenomenal. Big thanks to the kitchen team for being so good to us.

When you see the place from the outside you don't expect to find such a cosy place inside. The cocktails are spectacular and they have a wide selection of whiskies. They also serve food, I only tried the oxtail croquettes and the calamari, both delicious. I was looking forward to dining there and having the full experience.

Very interesting cocktails menu and talented bartenders/mixologists. They're very busy though, so it's difficult to get a table (we tried to pop in for dinner twice, but they're always fully booked). I think we were lucky to get a seat by the bar one time though. Definitely a place to visit again - but with a bit of planning! ;)

The Edinburgh Grand Hotel hosts this hip restaurant on its ground and lower levels and it couldn't be more perfect. Love the art deco vibes of the decoration but even more the cocktails and food. Honestly, if you want to have a good time in a gorgeous venue, look no further.

I went for lunch, it is quiet on a Monday afernoon so the atmosphere was relaxing.The food was great we had the sharing platter mezze, vegetarian and the meat one as well, it was very well served we ate it bewteen 3 people and we could not finish it all. I tried the cider Galipette, is bow my favourite cider. In general was a great experience, I would def go back.

Wandered in for a late bite and they were able to seat me right away and let me order before the kitchen closed. The food was surprisingly delicious! I ordered the butternut squash and calamari to start, both perfect. The cocktail was also very well done. Not too sweet, which is something I find a lot with cocktails these days. The upstairs decor was super cute as well! I didn’t wander downstairs though.

The cocktails are lush, the food is devine, and Martha is the best server EVER! A wonderful, buzzing venue and the deco theme is a very nice touch. The ox fritters are a must try, as is the brisket brioche. Thank you Martha for taking care of us, and for making our night that much more enjoyable. I am so glad my friends and I found this place. It's likely to be our new go-to place. Just amazing!

Loved the decor, a mix of modern industrial and dark leather seats. Good is excellent. The kebabs don’t look much on the menu, but they are really a proper dish of their own when arriving on the table.. big portions! Staff was a bit pushy... From arriving at the table and ordering, they seemed in a hurry to tidy up the table, and making us pay the bill...

Real nice. You can only get classy drinks here. Nothing on tap apart from a Pilot Vienna Ale. Be prepared to pay St Andrew Square prices but it is very nice. Good music. Nice.

First time we were here it took my friends 30 min to get served, they got blatantly ignored by barstaff and even when we ordered at the table it got forgotten about. The bartender was mor interested in flare and chatting to his friends. Been back and it's a very good looking spot with plenty of good drinks.

I wanted to love Lady Libertine, but unfortunately didn't have a very positive experience. Firstly, the music downstairs (where the main menu is served) is ridiculously loud. The small group I was with found it difficult to hear each other speak, and we struggled to hear the waiting staff (they seemed to struggle to hear us, too, which may have contributed to some of the issues we had with service). It might have seemed more understandable if it had been late on a Friday or Saturday, but this was midweek at dinner time. Service was confused. Our waitress kept taking away and then reinstating our menus, seemingly at random. She asked whether we would like all the food to come together, but despite us having said "yes" it then came piecemeal. (Which we probably wouldn't have minded, it was just a tad baffling when we'd been given and taken the opportunity to specifically ask for it all at once.) Regardless of which wines we requested she would simply asked us "you want white wine?", and would then need to return to ask us again which we had ordered. And to round things off, she unfortunately upended a tray of drinks onto my lap, drenching me and my bag. I appreciate that this is just one of those things that could happen to anyone, and another member of staff comped our table the replacement drinks, which was a welcome gesture. However, I had to leave at that point as I was so soaking wet that I needed to change my clothes, so it would have been of more benefit to me if they had offered to take something off my bill! (I hadn't actually ordered another drink.) However, the reason I've given three stars is that the food itself was extremely good, and unexpectedly good value. The menu is just the right length, with a couple of specials thrown in for good measure; tempting vegetarian options are well represented; the flavour and texture combinations are excellent; and the wine list is pleasingly interesting. My one quibble is that the flatbreads for the flatbread dishes we ordered came on the side (rather than under the other components of each dish, which is what I was expecting - I had ordered a sabich, which would normally be served as a filled flatbread) - this would have been fine, except that the plates the dishes were served on were so small that you couldn't create a filled/rolled flatbread unless you messily tried to remove all the food from the plate and squeeze the flatbread underneath. I should add that I have previously had lunch in the upstairs area, which is beautiful, light and airy, and where the music was at a much more tolerable volume! (Though that may just have been because it was lunchtime.) The food options upstairs are more limited - the snacks I had were delicious, good value and beautifully presented; it would just be good if the more substantial dishes from downstairs could be served upstairs too.

Really enjoyed our visit here. We visited the basement, however remained at our table on the ground floor. Stayed for a selection of tapenade and a lovely bottle of Picpoul. Staff were attentive and helpful, not overbearing or difficult to find. Looking forward to returning.
