One of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh. The platters are incredible, especially if you like seafood but want something different to the shellfish platters usually offered. The fish is so fresh and tasty. Staff are always SO lovely & attentive. It feels like eating at someone’s home, the hospitality is just wonderful. Always pick this place as a go to when showing new people the city. Well worth a visit!

I loved this place, it felt like I am at home 🥰🥰🥰 People are so friendly and warm. One of the waiters was singing I just stopped myself not to hug him 😍 so warm and welcoming atmosphere. I had the full sea food dish and my friend got the pork dish we both enjoyed the food and I will definitely go there to try the starters as well. I was so full after the huge seafood plate so have not got dessert but also want to try their desserts as I saw them serving looked so good !!! And the side salad was so delicious, ahh that focaccia is so dangerous that one can eat one bread at once.

YUM What a cute off the beaten track truly italian and authentically good restaurant. The portions are gigantic but it’s the quality that is the main draw card. The lamb orecchiette ragu was insanely rich, seafood linguine very generous and the starters inventive. Special thanks to the waiter on his welcome salad, for which we sneakily had seconds. Absolutely delicious and will be trying at home. So glad we ventured a little further out to find this gem on a quick stay in Edinburgh.

This restaurant has it all. I wanted to try one of everything but I controlled myself. We asked for a wine recommendation and it was perfect. The service was second to none. The staff was singing as they filled water, topped off wine, and delivered meals. There is no reason you shouldn’t be making reservations to enjoy this outstanding experience for yourself.

Found that the food (we ordered the seafood platter around £60) to be too salty and overpriced considering they only have a single crab claw and only two small scallops and two prawns alongside many mussels and clams. Surprised to have been charged £18 for a small portion of lobster which were finished in 2 bites. We got the Buratta for starters, which was £10. It was nothing special. While we liked the restaurant we were disappointed with what we ordered.

One of the best Italian restaurants - not just in Edinburgh but in the whole country. The food was unbelievable - slow cooked beef that fell apart with the slightest touch, fresh delicious pasta, an incredible selection of seafood - and the service was faultless and I felt very welcome. Really feels like being in Italy when you walk inside Locanda de Gusti. I would recommend to have starters to share or something small because the main dishes are huge portions. The pasta was really delicious. I would have liked to have a bit more of bread per serving to clean the dish! Make sure you book in advance!

AWESOME SEAFOOD SERVICE The staff are so welcoming and friendly. It genuinely has a very homey feel to it. Tight and close tables. FOOD We started off with the bread salad. The bread in the place is fantastic and fresh. It was a good starter. Then we got the seafood platter which was the best seafood I've had in Edinburgh. Everything was amazing. There were prawns, mussels, and great broth. It wasn't too salty, you could still taste the essence of the seafood and it was very moreish. The broth was so good that I had to ask for more bread to have it by itself. For mains, I got the aubergine pasta which was pretty good and then chocolate mousse for desert. All great but the seafood platter was the best. PRICE Quite pricey but honestly not too bad for three people however it could easily get up there with drinks which I didn't order

Three of us shared a bottle of red wine, a pint of beer, a basket of bread, one appetiser and main course for three and the bill came to about 95 pounds which I thought was very affordable and reasonable for the quality you get . At the end of the day, we were so stuffed and everything that we ordered was just so delicious! Their homemade bread dipped with olive oil and vinegar is just so dense and yummy. We had the beef tripe as an appetiser but I thought that was the less impressive course of the day albeit still tasty. We had the grilled seafood for two (swordfish, tuna fish, seabass, langoustine, prawns, scallops, squid) and everything was done perfectly well. Highly recommended. We also had the beef ragu pasta. The beef was very tender and all of us enjoyed this. It was a shame that we didn't get to try the dessert as we were all very stuffed. Thank you to the Locanda team for giving us such a great experience and for the very good service! ( Pizzeria 1926, their sister restaurant is equally as tasty and my fav pizza joint in Edinburgh! )

11/10, that is what they deserve! This place has probably the best Italian food and seafood I ever had outside Italy. The starter was so good and appealing that I didn't even had the time to take a picture, but you can see the unbelievable images of the main and dessert I had there today. The friendly and helpful staff just made everything even more perfect and welcoming. It's almost like having a meal at your grandmas house. Can't recommend it enough! Everyone should try it at least once... and don't worry about the price, fair and proportional to the satisfaction you have after leaving the restaurant.

My friends and I had dinner there and it was absolutely fabulous. We tried the monkfish as a starter, the gnocchi with squash, the pesto with broccoli, and the lamb shoulder for mains each one was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. Service was brilliant and the staff were so friendly. I do recommend that you book ahead as it does get quite busy even on weekdays!

My girlfriend have I have been here 3 or 4 times now. Easily the best Italian we've been to. The food is so flavoursome, rich and fresh. Great choice of Italian dishes that you wouldn't find in you're every day Italian restaurant. It's not cheap, but not expensive either. The quality of food and service is always great, so I feel the pricing is fair. To top it all off, the staff are all legends. We'll be going back again and again for sure.

Be warned that the restaurant is quite small inside and can be a little cramped, so if you're worried about being close to other people for covid then maybe give this place a miss until things are a little safer. But if you aren't worried about that then I'm sure you'll have a great meal here.

I will keep this as brief as I can, if you can make it here, do it. The two servers who were with us that night did a wonderful job. You can truly tell that they enjoy their work and they are fun to talk to. The food is classically Italian (meaning it tastes great, is a fair price, and there is a TON of it). The entire staff was from Napoli and they made my fiance and me feel both at home and in Napoli at the same time. I can not remember the last time I had not just a meal, but a fantastic time like this at a restaurant, they were even kind enough to let us meet the chief, which was quite the honor! Nice rustic neighborhood Italian restaurant. Food based on Naples region. Staff very happy and friendly, singing as they go about their duties. Focus of the menu is fish and shellfish with pasta. Lobster, scallops, clams, mussels, squid and octopus all on for the lunch menu the day we went. A good wine list adds to the enjoyment with wines from 26 pounds up to hundreds. Service very attentive without being intrusive. Overall a lovely lunchtime experience in a happy atmosphere. Would recommend lunch, very booked up for dinner.

Food is great, simply just great. Ambiance is lovely. Waiting staff is loud and very Italian, singing and shouting in Italian. Problem is that service is attentive until you finish your mains. Then you're just neglected. We waited around 10 minutes for dessert menus and almost 20 minutes for the bill. Still good place to go.

Updated: Back for another visit tonight (14/08/2021). Our first post covid night out for my wife birthday. Amazing seafood and pasta. This is what we've been missing. Great food, great service and the boys had a great time too. Our second visit here and we had a great time. The food is excellent. I had pork belly which came with amongst other things the softest mozzarella. My main was seafood linguini what was amazing. The service is excellent and we'll definitely be back.

Locanda de Gusti was without a doubt one of the best Italian meals I have ever had - and I live in New York City! We stumbled upon this place while exploring the main street, and had the best time. You can tell as soon as you walk in that everyone loves their job and takes pride in their food. This is the kind of place that will make you something that's not on the menu, so long as they have the ingredients. We were told we could wait for a table (at around 8:30pm on a Monday?) because it was full - and there is no question as to why. The food is unbelievable, and the wine is delicious, too. Order the chilled octopus. Just trust me - do it. SO good. The bread with olive oil might spoil your dinner, but it is well worth it. All seafood options are great choices, and the pastas are fresh and delicious. I can't say enough positive things about this place. Go and try it for yourself!

Just back from an early evening meal at Locanda de Gusti. The meal was excellent if slightly more than we would usually pay but then we are Scottish!!! No seriously, it was worth every penny but be warned the wine list prices are a wee bit on the high side. The food was delicious though and the atmosphere of the place and friendliness of all the staff made us feel instantly at home. One nice touch was the waiters noticing my wife was feeling a bit cold at the table we were initially given and without being asked they moved us to another next to a radiator. 5 star front of house service! The Burrata was divine as was the melt in the mouth sole we both had as a main. (I had mentioned I had a gluten free requirement when I made the on-line booking and before ordering the waiter advised me what pasta dishes were available as gluten free and then offered me some gluten free bread and oil as an appetiser.) Again 5 star front of house! (As it happened I didn't order a pasta dish but it was good to know that there were plenty of gluten free options.) The espresso and grappa, with a small glass of limoncello presented with the bill, brought back so many memories of Italy! A good way if a rather sad way to mark the UK's exit from Europe as well as celebrating our birthdays! This was our first visit to the restaurant and I'm very sure we'll be back. Thank you for a beautiful evening.

One of the best meals I've had in Edinburgh... Very authentic Italian, heavily fish based. We had meat, fig and mozzarella to start then followed by the mix fish grill and lobster linguine, then home made Gelato for dessert... Absolutely sublime!! Can't wait to go back!

I met a few friends on a Saturday night for a lovely meal here. I had the grilled vegetables with mozzarella for the starter, which were plentiful, healthy, nicely presented and also very tasty. For the main I progressed on to the monkfish in a bean broth, which was excellent. The fish was perfectly cooked and the beans were flavourful and not too heavy. The red wine that was recommended was really excellent, and I had a good white wine with my main. I ended the meal with a rich chocolate mousse. It was more of a chocolate pot than a mousse, but it was lovely. It was also very kind that the servers brought us cute mini bottles of amaretto for an excellent finish to the meal. The food is excellent and the servers are extremely friendly and helpful. It is a lovely, family type of restaurant with homely decorations. It's not cheap but it's worth it.

The restaurant it's self is unique it's like being in a little restaurant in Italy. The food is a different type of Italian loads of seafood and different pasta than you would expect but the food is unbelievable. The best meal I've have eaten. The house rose is an incredible wine not dry at all and complimented all courses. What really makes the restaurant is the constant service all the staff give. Constantly making sure you are being looked after, enjoying themselves. It creates an amazing atmosphere. As the bill comes you get a shot of amaretto, a sweet and as we left the man shook our hand. I'll definetely be back soon hands down the best restaurant in Edinburgh.

EXCEPTIONAL. We stumbled across this ristorante by accident. Walked in on a Friday night without a reservation & while it was obviously a full house, they managed to squeeze 3 of us in at 7.30pm. There should be a 6 star rating available for places like this one. The staff were amazingly happy, friendly & helpful. And the food.... WOW. The sautéed seafood, seafood linguine & lobster linguine was all cooked to perfection & very generous servings.
