Reviews of Luckenbooths

Excellent food and service. The meals were presented beautifully and the staff took extra care regarding my food allergies which was much appreciated. Loved it! Would definitely dine again and highly recommend it for the Cullen skink, salmon, and many other Scottish specialty dishes.

On our last night in Edinburgh, we wanted good food, and nothing fried from a pub. Boy did Luckenbooths deliver. We both had the lamb and absolutely loved it. Service was great, they squeezed us in while they were actually fully booked and they let us eat in peace (no pushing us out the door). We returned for breakfast the next morning, which was also delicious. Highly recommended!

While staying in Edinburgh for a week, we ate here three times. The first night we went, we had scottish ribeye and it was to die for. The food was so good and fresh. Dessert was light and full of flavor. We then went back for dinner two other times and got different menu items. The entire menu is spectacular. Customer service is exceptional. Highly recommend.

Popped in for dinner and had a great time. Luckenbooths is a really good restaurant.
Amazing food and brilliant service. Great atmosphere.

AMAZING! Cracking new venue on the Royal Mile. Came here for breakfast (twice) and dinner. Friendly staff, nice menu, decently priced and great location. Managed to get in without a reservation but I can see this place becoming super popular so probably best to make one. Can't wait to come back on my next visit to lovely Edinburgh.

Luckenbooths was a real find! The food was amazing. We had the haggis and beef bon bons and they were so delicious. Portion size was perfect and set us up nicely for our main. The steak was easily one of the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly to order and the accompanying fries, sauce and garnish only enhanced it. Fantastic dish.
The setting itself is bright and clean. Celubrious. The staff were attentive without being fussy or overly intrusive. Can't fault them.
All in all, five stars doesn't seem enough and we will definitely be back.

We enjoyed an absolutely delicious breakfast here. The garden breakfast was divine (photo below). The full Scottish, pancake stack and smashed avo on toast were all great. Service was ok.

Great lunch at Lucken Booths today. Perfectly cooked and dressed main dishes. Delicious dessert: Plum mess. Helpful and smiling staff. Clean and welcoming restaurant. Can only wish them well! Especially when most of the places we looked at were fully booked and looked like tourists traps.

I stayed in this hotel and I loved this restaurant . The service is excelent. The food is good. The prices are rasonable.

A perfect New Year's Eve. Great location clean & contemporary designed, great ambience, fantastic hosts and even got to meet the chef of the BEST Steak I have EVER had. FANTASTIC
H. P.
Great clean and tidy venue. I had a full Scottish breakfast which was tasty and very filling

Excellent Scottish breakfast. Reasonably priced and not like all the other tourist traps!

Good comfortable seats inside and outside when the weather is good.
They managed to find us a table on Saturday evening without a reservation, thank you!
Scallops with black pudding, lamb rump and ribeye steak were very good.
Recommended!

Visited twice during our stay in Edinburgh. What a lovely place! The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious! We had breakfast on our first visit. I had the ham hock bowl, full of shredded ham hock, and veggies and finished with a mustard dressing. We also visited for lunch, and they didn't disappoint. I had a bowl of Cullen skink, with bread and butter, followed by the swede and haggis pie. Amazing.

Food was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had good variety very well presented and cooked. Staff polite and helpful in pleasant surroundings. Will go again for main meals.

Fabulous place, excellent food, good wine and whisky selection. Good value for money. Friendly staff. Veggie and non-veggie choices. Our party of 10 probably had most of the options and everyone enjoyed it. The only additional thing on the menu I would like to see is a local cheese board for dessert. I would definitely recommend this place.

We booked the upstairs section of the restaurant for a brunch the morning after my daughter's wedding in Edinburgh. 36 people for a full Scottish breakfast brunch with a 2 hour timescale. The food was really good, large portions, hot, well presented by attentive staff in good time. Plenty of tea and coffee. Just what we all needed after a beautiful wedding day. Would definitely recommend.

Family booked for my birthday lunch and I was excited that it would be Scottish Food. However they had changed the menu and it was just a Scottish take on a few meals. I had the fish and chips which was delish but I was disappointed at the choices. Lovely place but the staff need a bit more training on Customer Service. We had to ask for 2 items which had been ordered and it was impossible to get eye contact with anybody. 😔

I’ve dined twice and also visited for drinks only. All 3 visits were lovely experiences. The food is really good and not too expensive. For drinks, there was a good choice of wines and gin. The staff were all super friendly and professional. I love this place and will definitely be going back. I strongly recommend it to everyone. ❤️❤️

Very nice place to have traditional full Scottish breakfast.
J. R.
Nice breakfast menu. Lots of space. Good service.
J. C.
We sat outside for coffees. As they were short staffed they weren't serving food outside that day sadly, so can't comment on the desserts that sounded delicious. But still 5 stars for good service in the circumstances, and it's a great people-watching spot opposite St. Giles.
A. M.
We found this lovely place after a hike around the castle lol. Its very clean (probably why the people behind us decided to change their baby's bum in the restaurant), and the staff are amazing, loved the water waiter lol. We asked our waiter if we could try some haggis and they brought out the most amazing tasting bon bon. We played it safe and both had the beef burger, which like the haggis bon bon was to die for. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
j. m.
Great food, service is excellent and a great building and location.
C. P.
Amazing from start to finish food was esquisite, service was exemplary staff very attentive but not over bearing and value for money had main and dessert as well as drinks for 3 adults and was under £100
Perfection

Efficient friendly service, nice surroundings and excellent food.

Great location, food, service and staff. Huge investment I'm sure but will pay dividends. One of the newer bright spots in the auld toon!
T. G.
Lovely atmosphere, well laid out, good service and welcoming. Food was tasty and well presented.

10oz rump steak was absolutely perfect. Honestly the most perfectly cooked steak I've had in ages. Mac and cheese was good, just the cheese used wasn't to my taste, but not their fault. Kohlrabi slaw was good. Staff were also very friendly.
W. D.
Came here for a weekend with friends and saw this place which looked really cool. The decor is really nice and contemporary, the staff were super friendly and looked after us really well. The food is amazing, the full Scottish breakfast was just right and tasted superb. Came back for dinner the Saturday night and again the service was amazing and the food was to die for!!! Out last morning in Edinburgh we just had to come back for another breakfast. This is a super cool place and not over priced and well worth checking out.
C. S.
Sat outside with snacks and drinks people watching on the Royal Mile. Beautiful day enjoyed the sunshine with friends.
P. C.
Great location, good food and helpful staff. Also dog friendly. Spotlessly clean.
A. N.
We came here last night and had an amazing evening. Staff were very pleasant and attentive, and even though it was clear some were new and being trained, it didn’t detract from a great experience.
And the food ….. to die for! The pan roast chicken was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully with a great balance of flavours, the rib eye steak was succulent and pork belly was just superb . We will be spreading the word that there is a great new place on the mile that isn’t overpriced & profiteering or cheap tat ! Well done.
M. H.
My wife and I have just had the most fantastic meal in this new restaurant in the heart of the city. The quality of the food was outstanding, the eye for detail by the chiefs and the waiting staff is exceptional. I had a steak which I can honestly say is the best one I've ever eaten and I've had a lot of steak. If you want to celebrate a special occasion with someone special this is without the venue. A massive thankyou to all the staff for making our visit so very special.
Mark and Anita Haffenden ♥

New restaurant on The Royal Mile. Enjoyed a delicious Croque Madame for lunch. A little pricey and service was a bit slow but perhaps they'll work these out.
J. D.
Good stop! Pleasantly priced and everyone at the table was happy with taste and portions! Good job guys!!

Found Luckenbooths just by walking past. They had only been open two weeks and were making a huge effort. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and efficient but friendly and unstuffy. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend.

(Translated) Good location next to the castle, server with a smile, quality cuisine. The downsides: the dessert menu comes at the end of the meal, and the dish chosen was out of stock (no announcement before choosing)
(Original)
L.
(Translated) Very good surprise of the evening it's good and beautiful!
We were found a place in less than 5 minutes...
And the choice of desserts is Cornelian.
(Original)
Très bonne surprise de la soirée c'est bon et beau !
On nous a trouvé une place en moins de 5 minutes...
Et le choix des desserts est cornélien.

(Translated) The restaurant is right in the middle of the old town, nice and classic with very attentive condition. The food tasted very good, but the wine was mediocre. Price / performance ratio is right, would definitely recommend it.
(Original)
