Maggie Dickson’s is a lovely pub where we were looked after very well. The landlord knew his whisky and can recommend ones based on your preference. The food was great including several vegan options. The haggis, neeps & tatties with pepper sauce was very good as was the haggis burger. The vegan Mexican from the loaded fries menu made my wife very happy. Also there is a fascinating plaque outside with the history behind the name. Photos added . . .

Incredibly tasty chilli with sour creme, rice and tortilla chips. The beef was perfectly spiced. I really enjoyed it. The steak and ale pie was excellent as well. The pastry on top was flaky and made for a great dish. Drinks were great too!

Great and delicious burgers (besides the other foods in the menu). Twice we went on the same week-long trip. Also good detail about the monthly selected ale. Had a nice surprise tasting it.

The employee was very nice. I haven't tried whisky before and he patiently helped me pick what to try. I got the Auchentoshan 12. I also tried haggis burger for the first time. It sure is something different. Happy with my experience.

Smashing place with comfortable surroundings, helpful friendly staff and a good atmosphere. There's a good selection of drinks and the prices are decent for the location i.e. Central Edinburgh tourist/student trap. 😉 The layout is quite tight but it has plenty of seating options. They had live music on on the Saturday night we were in there and it was very good and not too loud to drown out our conversation. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Was having a lovely day out with the wife until we got here. They offer a cocktail called the Bloody Maggie, very similar to the Mary but it is advertised to also come with a Port float. The cocktail was made and put in front of me but I'd seen it made and there was no port float. I asked and was told they didn't have any Port. And this is where it gets weird. I said that's OK, I'll just take another shot of vodka. At this point the lady stormed off muttering that she'd check in the back of they had any Port. Came back and said no, they didn't have any. I repeated that is be happy with another shot of vodka to make up the shortfall for what I'd paid for only to be told that would be illegal (it isn't AFAIK). Then said that she'd give me a new drink if I wasn't happy and at this point I said yes, I'll have a pint of Guinness. Even weirder now.. She refunds me the money for the cocktail and gives me my Guinness. I offer to pay for the Guinness but she won't take it (this is appreciated) but did seem to contradict the illegal statement earlier. We drank quickish and leave.

We originally came in here after we had heard about the history regarding Maggie Dicksons, if you don't know about her yet then definitely Google! Lovely quaint tavern as I like to call them. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff 👌. We sat for an hour and a half having drinks and just able to sit and chill. However they do, do food as well. Highly recommended.

Haggis neeps and tatties introduced to our American cousins. A little bit to much pepper but tasted superb all the same. The lassie working the bar was the hostess with the mostess and dealt with the unruly transatlantic drunks with poise and professionalism.

The bar itself is quite busy on Saturdays. Was disappointed at first because they didn't have any pied so decided to order two burgers. The burgers came out really quick which was strange. My partner checked the inside of her burger and it was burnt so she sent it back. Mine was a little charred but I persevered. We proceeded to have to wait for 20 mins or so for the other burger to come out. The lady was kind enough to refund the burger for the delay and when it arrived it was tasty and filling (according to the missus!) Would go back for a drink.

Maggie's is a lively pub with a great vibe & live music. It's chill, but still busy & upbeat (if that makes any sense). Prices might not be overly cheap, but they are definitely reasonable, and the bar staff are attentive and quick. It was exactly what we were looking for after an evening tour.

Again visited Maggie Dicksons when Jazz Festival was on and also on ather time in Edinburgh. Its one those pubs that comes alive if been in it enjoying a few beers. tables are clean staff are good, food is enjoyable. If your in Edinburgh this is a little gem pub worth a visit.

The tables were a bit too close together with no shields and the menu that we were given was picked from a table already in use and given to use without sanitizing. That aside, I liked it. This pub, located in the Grass Market area of old Edinburgh, is named after the only person known to survive public execution. The staff was very friendly, there was a solid selection of beers both on cask and on draft available, and respectable variety in food options. I ordered a bowl of soup for lunch, and the lentils were flavorful and well-seasoned. The bathrooms were clean, and there was a detailed ghost story on the wall in there. Be sure to visit the bathroom and learn about the building’s haunted past!

The staff were friendly, the pub was clean just don't go in the loos they had a lot to be desired. It's a pub - that's about it (for good and for bad). The drinks aren't particularly expensive, but aren't inexpensive either. The variety is about as bog-standard as you can get this side of Weatherspoons. The atmosphere is, well, that of a pub. The food is pub fare, and perfectly acceptable. In short, it's, well, a pub (albeit one with all the shlock you'd expect on the walls of anything this close to the Castle) The bottom line - there's other/better stuff around, but if you end up here, it won't suck...

One of the "classics" in Grassmarket, it's a good place to have a beer with friends. Although it's a bit small, they have renovated it and it's really nice and modern inside. Good selection of beers. If only to be where the "infamous" Maggie Dicksons apparently lived, visit it and down a pint or two for her.

We went on the recommendation of a tour guide because of the history that Maggie had in Edinburgh. We were a bit disappointed as we ordered 2 drinks and they didn't have them, they didn't serve any snacks either because the kitchen was closed. Then I went to the bathroom and horror was disgusting. They were very dirty and without paper for the vision of the place that is very beautiful. We stayed with the little while that we heard a boy play and sing live!! A 10!!!! Being able to have a drink with music playing in the background is brilliant!
