It deserves more than 5 stars, to be honest. My wife and I had the best dining experience here in Edinburgh so far. The environment was very relaxing, the staff were very nice and the food was fantastic! - fresh and delicious! The presentations were good and appealing. Love that!

We found New Chapter through a Google recommendation of nice restaurants in the area and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. We had a three course menu and alcoholic beverages and spend about 110 pounds for two people which I personally find very decent for such high quality food. The produces where local and seasonal which is important to me. The flavours of each of our dishes were complex but not overwhelming. My highlight was the beef cheek- super tender and delicious. Would eat there regularly if I lived in the neighbourhood.

We had the most exquisite meal here; family friendly too! They catered for our six year old son by frying a fillet of cod and serving with triple cooked chips. He absolutely loved it. Somehow they manage to be extremely warm, friendly, professional and formal at the same time. We would honestly come back every night if we could.

Absolutely stunning menu. Really one of the best lunches I've ever had. Both the desserts in particular were on another level so make sure you don't skip on them. A must visit if you're in Edinburgh and looking for a proper meal out!

We went for our anniversary to try their Christmas menu which was really amazing and was such a good price overall. What an absolutely delightful little find. I can't quite remember how we happened upon this restaurant possibly just by chance whilst planning our trip but I am so glad that we did. The food was incredible and the service first class. The staff were so friendly and efficient, they made an already pleasant experience feel extra special. Now the food...the flavour combinations were exquisite and the texture and look of the dishes were just on point. I wish I could have tried everything as it all sounded delicious. The prices are very reasonable for a fancy lunchtime treat in a city location and hopefully we can visit again very soon, if only we lived closer! Honestly can't say enough good things about this place, if you haven't visited yet you're missing out!

Fantastic table ! As the epicurean than i am, i was surprisingly transported by New Chapter's cuisine ! I took a mixed of sea food and meat for starter and when you take a spoon of everything in the mouth, all the flavours come out in an perfect combination. For the main course, i took the fish and it was litteraly the best cooked fish i have ever tasted in my life ! The combination between orange and yuzu for the sauce is just genius ! And finally, to finish on a sweety note this diner, i took the mango pavlova, and i really really liked it, it is such a great idea to mix a sorbet, pieces of fresh mango and a sabayon with a light piece of meringue ! Sweet, fresh and light dessert if you still have room in your stomach ! Thanks a lot for your kindness, your attention and of course, your tasty cuisine ! I really recommend to have diner there, you won't be desappointed at all !

Really special place. Amazing set lunch. I had cod but didn't want the njuda sausage that came with it. Chef made me a different sauce with mussels. It was amazing. New Chapter was a really lovely venue and Kasia was a super attentive, friendly and personable host. Nothing was too much trouble! We were seated downstairs and not forgotten about even though upstairs was very busy and we thought we might be forgotten. I am lactose intolerant and Kasia made sure to check everything with the chefs and also make reccomendations. The chefs also were attentive in amending the dishes to my needs and being honest with what would be worth the changes. Overall the standard of food was excellent and the portion sizes were perfect. It was made with care and the drink selection was amazing and fairly priced. However, the only criticism is that the food menu seemed just slightly overpriced.

We had 3-course of lunch couple days ago, which was a very pleasant visit. The service was attentive and welcoming, starters and cocktails were great though personally I felt the mains were a bit flat re the taste. Nonetheless, I still highly recommend this restaurant for its efforts on serving good food at really affordable value. Will definitely visit again if we’re back in town.

A slightly disappointing lunch on Sunday. Our fish was entirely over cooked and chewy with slimy skin and the marmalade pudding pretty tasteless unfortunately. Nice but not great and perfunctory service meant no one even asked how it was for us to feed back. We were celebrating our engagement and felt a bit downtrodden we’d trekked all the way there for a mediocre lunch.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. Booked a table here for a party of six as my mother was visiting us. She is very picky when it comes to restaurants but was as impressed as the rest of us with the food and the service. We were seated in the private dining hall at no extra cost, and the waiters were a credit to their profession - polite, attentive, knowledgable and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. Some of the flavour combinations, such as lemon gnocchi, sounded a bit daunting at first but the chefs clearly know what they are doing. Nothing to fault about the experience at all. We will be back for sure. What an underrated little gem.

Food is defo on the more expensive side, most starters are the price of a main in a lot of Edinburgh. The food is divine however and the service doesn't miss a beat(thanks to Enrique & co). The scallop starter is absolutely unreal, the celeriac main and the sirloin are to die for. The desserts were both excellent but the herb ice creams didn't really do it for us, the coriander and lime sorbet should have just been lime and the tarragon ice cream should have been anything but tarragon. Still a great experience and a brilliant restaurant. 3 courses and drinks for 115 quid for the level the food was at is dear but good value for money, definitely paying for quality of food and excellent service.

Both were very nice Partner had a beetroot starter that was nice but a bit bizarre as why it was deemed ok to charge about £8 for a few slices Service was a little disappointing. There was a large private party downstairs that seemed to take all the staffs attention A lot of the time there were no staff front of house so trying to get attention for drinks/dessert/bill was difficult Apparently a top 10 restaurant in Edinburgh.....I’m not so sure it warrants this claim

We came for a nice work pre-Xmas meal for the team at lunch and apart from being incredibly reasonably priced, we were well looked after and the food was just way above what you'd expect at the price of the set menu. Sublime. Starter of scallop / pork belly / black pudding sensational - to the point I pondered whether getting two plates (the second as a main) was an error. The main - rib eye - was exceptional. As someone from London, I can safely say this was as good, if not better, than those restaurants in London renowned as being the best steak spots .. and dare I say a fraction of those prices. The meat and the way it was cooked so good. Dessert was shared and it was on par with earlier courses. Wine very good, and the service was on point - what an excellent team this restaurant has, so attentive and friendly. All in all, 6 out of 5. Highlight of our visit to Edinburgh - an absolute must (28/12/18).

A birthday treat from my sister Morag and bro-in-law James and it lived up to its name - a treat indeed. The scallops with pork belly and black pudding were perfect, the halibut so delicate it just melted and desert -wow, it looked so good, before I knew it I had eaten it all before taking a photo. Had a really delicious meal here last night. There were plenty options on the menu I could have chosen just opted for the Chicken Liver Parfait starter, then the Monkfish main followed by Chocolate Cremeux for dessert. All faultless. The wine list had a good selection and was reasonably priced, including some lovely dessert wines and ports. Service was a little slow as they had a couple of large parties downstairs who were running late, but they apologised and we possibly wouldn't have noticed ourselves. Otherwise, the staff were all charming. Wouldn't hesitate to go back again, hopefully very soon.

So googled and found this little restaurant. Liked the name and the reviews. Booked for a birthday lunch. It was a dreich (Scottish term for cold, wet and dreary) day in March in Edinburgh. Lucky we got parked close by. Free parking on a Sunday. In and seated very quickly. Drinks and carafes of water topped up without having to ask. Discreet service. Appreciated.Then lovely soft homemade bread served in little cloth holders with butter and a vibrant, vivid green, very fresh, herby dip. Delicious and different to eat while we considered what to order. Went for the set menu. A few choices in each course and very good value for the standard of dishes and presentation - which was exceptional. Delightfully different dishes. A cut above the ordinary. So we had artichoke soup with a delicious croquette; quail; a tossed salad on request; smoked trout and a goat's cheese vegetarian option. Just the right size of portion for us. Mains....lamb, plaice, veggie option and chicken - with a difference eg a confit egg yolk. Yes! Sounds like Master Chef? Such was the standard of the dishes. Desserts..again different and delicious. Coffees...espresso and smooth but strong flat white. Coupled with attentive but discreet and professional service and nice surroundings...what's not to like? Go on...give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Hope to return for another meal.

My family had a great lunch here; out airbnb host had put it down as a favourite restaurant of his and so we decided to try it out on our first day in Edinburgh. We thought we might have come too late for lunch (it was close to 2.30PM) but staff warmly waved us in and gave us a table straight away. Nouveau cuisine -- very good food plated in very creative fashion. It's not my "thing" necessarily but it's done beautifully and the flavors were amazing. I had the ribeye and my wife had the cod. Both were very good. My wife had the ham and pea soup as a starter and I had quail. I would normally never order quail but this was really good. Dessert was really odd/delicious, too. It lists "banana" as an ingredient -- but that came out in the form of flat, thin "chips". The rest of it was really interesting. It's not a traditional restaurant but if you're looking for a smart, nouveau approach, this is a very good choice.
