Reviews of Noodle 'n' Rice
P. C.
I can't believe that I can eat authentic Thai food in Edinburgh, the food looks good, tastes good, and the serving size is much larger than some similar restaurants in London.
Waiter is very polite.
J. M.
Hot, fresh, fast and delicious food. The staff were very friendly and helpful answering any queries we had with the menu. The food was full of flavour. A gem of a place .
P. H.
Firstly, ignore the directions on Google maps because the restaurant is high up, not under any bridge... The server was friendly and polite. As for the food, it's not bad, but it's not correctly named. The pad kaprao was very sweet, closer to a sweet and sour dish than pad kaprao. The katsu chicken was more akin to chicken korma. As for the rice, it was advertised as Thai jasmine, but if it was it was very badly cooked. I think it was actually basmati.
M. O.
I'd say don't judge a book by its cover - the restaurant doesn't look the best but we still gave it a go as I was craving rice at the time. So pleased we had dinner here as the food was so good! Authentic Thai cuisine. It was so good that we decided to eat there again during our stay in Edinburgh!
G. G.
This very good Thai restaurant was a good choice I went for the chicken katsu with jasmine rice and my wife chose the sweet and sour chicken also with jasmine rice, both cooked to perfection and very tasty. 👌 Our waitress greeted and served us quickly and efficiently. The actual restaurant would benefit with some updating to give a better atmosphere.. but well done to chef and staff 😋
H. I.
Waitress was extremely attentive. As connoisseurs of Thai food, especially Tom Yum and Green Curry, we’d say they’re at best passable - but given the price point (ie it’s relatively cheap) we can’t complain.
Update: came back again for khao ma gai. I absolutely loved it, and both starters - calamari and spring rolls. However my partner found the Tom Yum to be slightly underwhelming.
M.
They are have the best and kindest staff ever. I made an order through just eat and I put the incorrect address by mistake. When I called the restaurant to see if they could help me with this they were extremely understanding and helpful. The food was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. I recommend this place to everyone. They delivered the food super fast and the prices are really good for the quality of the food they offer. I will keep ordering food from here.
R. K.
We ate here a few times during our short stay in Edinburgh since it's halal and we love noodles & rice. The service was quick & friendly while the food was moderate, sometimes good. Quick review of the items we ordered:
- Vietnamese noodle : a miss, didn't taste like pho and lots of unnecessary veggies
- Chicken fried rice : quite good
- Chow mein : quite good
- Pad thai : not good,we couldn't finish it
- Pad see ew : this was one of their best seller, a bit salty but quite good
- Ramen : similar to instant noodles but we liked it
S. R.
Tasty food at a great price! Had the beef ramen and it was great, plus full of fresh veg perfectly cooked, loved it. Massive portion too, I was starving when I arrived yet still couldn't finish! Waddled out the door happily full lol ☺️

Best Thai food in Edinburgh with super friendly staff and top quality chefs. Very fast service to. Highly recommend!
S. M.
The acme of Edinburgh establishments. Despite my penurious pockets I found the prices most conscionable. Fantastic spot to bring the extended family to enjoy some alternative, borderline hedonically dionysian peregrine cuisine.
I must in particular commend and deliver an encomium to the dear waitress, Myada, for her herculean efforts, delivered with a a ready smile and much brio, lubriciously serving us in amidst much exigency in the atmosphere.
Savouring such delicious repast has almost convinced me to give up my anthropophagism, although I must remark that the spices were somewhat internecine in their nature, if the dear reader is aware of what I mean.
But for that, I can not say that the establishment is worthy of any vituperative tirade on my part.
A. p.
Ordered the special seafood mix fried rice, tofu sweet & sour stir fry and the veggie tom yum. Surprisingly quite delicious and the portions were quite big! Altho the stir fry was abit expensive and the portion was small. Very happy with the food. Chill atmosphere with music at the background. Banana fritters tasted good although it was very little as well.
s. r.
i came here for a holiday. I had the chicken chow mein noodles which was very nice. staff member that works there was polite and welcoming. clean environment, A+++++++
C. B.
We were in Edinburgh for a week and ate here everyday. I am a celiac and to find a delicious place that had a gluten free menu (just ask) was a wonderful experience. The staff were kind, the place was always clean and the food was amazing. I fell in love with the chicken pad Thai. Just be sure to let them know you need it gluten free. :) huge portions!
M. H.
A cold wet evening in Edinburgh. We needed somewhere to eat at short notice. The restaurant was fairly busy but we got a window seat. In a rush so just ordered two dishes and two beers. We experienced quick and friendly service, and the food was exactly as ordered. Hot and tasty.
Would go again although maybe taking a chance judging from other recent reviews. Perhaps we just got lucky?
h. h.
The food was average (chicken didnt taste great). The portions were big though
D. B.
Before comming here i was angry and hungry. After my lunch i've felt much better.🤓
I've ordered noodles with beef here. Beef could be better, but noodles was just awesome! :)
Vine also could be better, but in general, all of it just made my day better. Try it!
A. Also staff, - looks friendly! :)
M. M. S.
We were starving when we reached here, so we were more than grateful that they had quick service. The staff was helpful, the place was warm (very welcome in Edinburgh's cold) and the food was good as well with decent proportions and not too expensive. Definitely worth a try
M. M.
We had the most super delicious Vegetarian Chowmein... Everything about the dish was amazing...The veggies were crunchy.. Absolutely loved it ..
S. B.
This place is an under stated Thai style restaurant, a bit like they are in Thailand. Its not about the decor or ambience its totally about the food.
We had Pad King (ginger and spring onion) no egg and extra veg in oyster sauce £8.50. Egg noodle bowl £3 Wife had Same but with King Prawn. £10.
A big portion and absolutely Delicious.
B. B.
Quick, great quality food. And very friendly staff. Some of the reviews seem very harsh on this place. If seemed busy, good service and our food was very good. I would happily go back again.
W. C.
Prices good, food was nice too but definitely too spicy so my friend and I couldn't experience the whole flavour. We ordered different things.
When paying the bill I was informed that we chose the most spicy food from the menu. Well, I wish I was aware of this while ordering food - no info in the menu or no recommendation from the waitress. That's a pity.
The inside is not very nice so I'd not recommend this place for a long stay.
A. N.
It is a good restaurant to go with friends. They serve amazing noodles, especially, Singapore noodles (with tofu) ard just so good. Overall, it's clean and hygienic place.
M. H. P.
Great Pad Thai. Great Chai Latte. Friendly staff. Spacious environment.
C. T.
Nice ,Atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. Food is great quality taste and presentation.
J. N.
It was the first restaurant I went during the time I lived in Edinburgh. Loved it but I admit the service is not very constant and sometimes the food was not that great.
M. A. H.
I would recommend that restaurant because the taste was incredibly delicious. I don't know how to define it but I can since I came to UK that is second restaurant which I loved the most. Because I overeat :D .. its not expensive but feels like my home food from my home country. If I get a chance to come back to Edinburgh I will pick the place to eat. Perfect!!! And really good staff.
Y. W.
We got two tofu noodle dishes and they were delicious, large portions, pretty quick to arrive and extremely good value for money.
Our waitress was lovely and very attentive, especially with making sure that our food was vegetarian-friendly
D. K.
Nice food, but I would say the place needs a wee bit of tlc.
A. N.
Great food and brilliant staff!! Will definitely come again and recommend to all my friends!
D. H.
Great service. Friendly staff. However Pad Thai was a bit tasteless. I did think about 4 stars though. Worth going but tasted better.
L. B.
Food was lovely. Good service.
D. J.
I had the chickpea curry and rice with naan. It was very good. Our favorite was the pakora fritters. We've never had those before and they were really good. Definitely a great option for vegetarian or vegan places in Edinburgh.
k. t.
Lovely noodles friendly staff only reason not 5 stars is the fact it's £2.50 for a warm can of coke.
J. P.
Almost same Thai food as I eat in My hometown. Good service.
N.
It was opened at Christmas eve so that is good.
Noodles is not that mush delicious.
C. V. L.
Amazing food, a balance between quality and price.Staff was fantastic, really helpful, specially Emi, she is friendly ,welcoming, thanks very much.
We'll definitely come back!!
j. g.
The ordering is weird and hard to understand or at least it was for me. It was hard to get service and they didn't use ice for the drinks which is pretty common in the UK. That being said, my food was really good. My boyfriend didn't like his as much because he ordered something different than what he thought. They didn't speak English very well and like I said the menu was hard to understand. Service was slow but the food was good!
L. W.
The food was incredible and the staff were lovely, just a shame it's a bit scruffy inside.
K. Y.
I’m Chinese, and after getting used to British cooking style I’m very surprised by the fried rice offered by this restaurant, super close to that offered in China!!
N. A. P.
Food was so tasty and flavorful! Really enjoyed it. Even the non noodle lovers of the group lapped up the noodles
J. Y.
Two waitresses were lovely but there were two blokes behind the counter who seemed to unnerve them somewhat.
Service slightly on the slow side.
Grilled beef salad was lush, peri chips also tasty. Menu a little underhanded because every meal option says in small writing "add £1 for chicken or tofu, etc".
Interior and exterior is very nice. The restaurant has a lot of potential. Be upfront about prices. Also, less sugar and salt in other meals - way too seasoned!
J.
I liked the food but the portion could've been bigger, for the price you're paying. Relaxed interior and suitable for large groups of people. The staff were friendly enough and were quick to take our orders. Didn't have to wait long for our food either.
C. H.
Delicious. So many amazing options. Don't know how authentic it would be but its really tasty.
E. N.
Very speedy service with tasty food. Food was quite oily but good value for money.
P. W.
Staff was nice and prices are reasonable. But it took over 30min to get the food when only other 10 customers where there. Side dishes very more than disappointing. Avoid the " Thai style calamari ", they are just frozen one from supermarket with the standard cheap sweet & sour sauce. And the " sweet potato fritters" contain only one paper thin slide of sweet potato, though they are good. Main courses (pad Thai & another meal) were very good! Overall okish, but needs to improve cooking time and changes side dishes.
Y. B.
Staff are very friendly, welcoming and warm, willing to answer questions and provide suggestions and their opinions on the dishes. The food is great, very tasty, well prepared and filling! After several hours of walking through Edinburgh and building up a real appetite, my friends and I still managed to fill up and have food left over that we continued to nibble just because we didn't want the great tasting food to go to waste! I highly recommend it and try the salmon teriyaki!
D. M.
This relaxed eating place looked very appealing from the outside and after quickly scanning the menu we decided to go in. I wasn’t disappointed but at the same time it wasn’t amazing either.
It’s very reasonably priced food and has a decent selection of Thai cuisine on offer. However, I love street food, I love Thai cuisine and I love ice cream, so when I seen this place I thought this place would be right up my street, I left satisfied but not amazed.
Not that much street food on offer, it’s really just a normal Thai menu. Food was tasty enough but wasn’t amazed. I probably liked the starters better than the mains.
The combination with Luca ice cream is a refreshing original idea as you definitely do not associate Thai food with Italian ice cream. It would be great to see more restaurants doing similar combinations with other locally sourced produce. For that it gets an extra star. The ice cream menu is comprehensive also so well worth going just for that.
Good place to grab a quick bite to eat on the run as the food was prepared unbelievably quick. Also good place to watch the world go by with massive bay windows that has seating beside it.
Really like the place and can definitely recommend it, love the original idea with Luca’s however I just wish the Thai food, which is the main reason for going, was slightly better. This would make it one of my favourite places in Edinburgh.
P. G.
Whilst when we finally got our food it was very yummy and tasty, it took a fair amount of time of about an hour for us to be seated and food on the table. One in our group had to wait even longer because they forgot her order. But otherwise it is a nice place and my chicken pad Thai was great. Good luck getting up from he benches afterwards😂
K. R.
Really lovely food and great prices
M. J.
Great food, friendly staff and really affordable. Would love to come back for more tasty food!
A. B.
Pad thai was very good. Very friendly staff
K. H.
Service was quick, place is clean and staff were kind and nice. Starters were delicious but we ordered four main dishes and they were not authentic Thai food. My group and I didn't enjoy the food taste.
a. a. (.
Comming from someone from Bangkok (I have little experience with UK restruants) the portions were a bit small and the rice was a bit hard. But there was a lovely atmosphere, staff were nice.
Edit after returning for a so-so pad thai. The food took around 12 minutes (there were another 2 customers that ordered before me) so not too bad. The pad thai was a bit bland and slightly dry. But I was able to customize it to get both tofu and vegetables (even though the menu only says "tofu or vegetables) which is nice. It was quite a substantial portion. Celadon 2 you does it cheaper though and I prefer the pad thai there better.
C. S.
Quick, clean and friendly. Dined in-house. House special dish was tasty. A little salty to me, but certainly edible- just a cultural preference I think. Very fresh. Huge portions for the price.
A. P.
We were visiting Scotland and Ireland. While in Edinburg, we were craving for some rice and saw "rice n noodle". Noon met us and asked what we wanted. She catered to my wife's specific request, (less oil, no sauce, less salt, grilled, etc). The salmon was done perfect!
We came the next day for more food! I recommend this place, staff were very accommodating and very close to our hotel at Fraser Suites.
S. C.
Good taste and kind staff. Not a place to try different flavours of spices, everything on the menu is just "curry" with different kinds of meat or vegetables.
s.
Great food good prices place basic the staff great hidden jem.
L. T.
Good value for a take away! Had a sizeable king prawn noodle box (with plenty of prawns) with nice and crunchy veg for only £5.20. Only criticisms are that the satay sauce was only just acceptable (not great really) and veg too chunky for chop sticks
T. C.
Great friendly service and fantastic vegan/vegetarian options. Surprised by the portion sizes
N. C.
Great food at good prices
L. F.
Genuinly the best food I've had in Scotland
I had the sweet and sour duck and noodles.... You MUST GO
:)
S. A.
Tasty food, great service (friendly and helpful), loads of choice and for the price very good quality
N. A.
Tempted to go after tasting some amazing pakora samples serving outside. But only that was good. Food, service and portions - all okayish.
A. S.
Lovely staff, and great food with amazing prices. Cleaned the plate definitely recommended.
P. W.
Food was a little salty, but tasty enough, chefs are not Asian. Service was super quick. The atmosphere was very odd and the facilities worn and dirty.
Z. W.
I recently visited noodle and I will definitely do it again! The food was amaizingly good, and the portion was big enough for two. What is more the waiting staff was extremely polite and put some good music on 😊
B. M.
FOOD : Starters were great, the mains we had were not as good.
TOILETS: Need done up were a little run down , no toilet roll in them.
STAff: Were pleasant
VALUE FOR MONEY: over all prices not bad.
O. B.
Was initially a 5 star but I changed to 4 after the staff guy start debating over the mango fizz content. His fizzy theory was flawed.. I don't care how much mango floats to the top (as an Asian I have drinking rubicon for 20+ years) I want another drink.
Food was good
C. A. R. R.
I'm Asian and I highly recommend this place. Food was served amazingly quick and tasted quite good. Staff were nice and very good .. we had the Tom Yum soup, Garlic and Pepper Chicken, Pad Mami Beef, and Salmon Teriyaki. Food was top notch!
R. M.
Well it’s hard to find such good Thai food out of Thailand! We just have fast food type nationals in my city these guys could do with opening a branch there.
B. G.
Food came out pretty quickly. We ordered noodle dishes with meat and the meat was quite generous. Food was good, maybe just a little bit salty.
B. W.
Premises itself looked like something Bob the Builder himself put together with random lamps with trailing cables and home made door handles but especially loved the fridge in the main dining area. To compete with the big boys a little more TLC and less frugality needed to make the premises look less like a pop up noodle shop and genuine contender.
Primary school interior design aside the food was sensational, absolutely faultless, very resonable and the portions more than enough. Absolutely stunning food!!!
J. B.
Good place for lunch with plenty of choice and reasonable prices. Thai based but not excessively spiced, my yum tum chicken soup was spicy but flavoursome and the side portion of noodles very generous for only £2
O. A.
Can't believe that this place only has a 3.4 average (at the time of writing); have been there on both of my recent-ish trips to Edinburgh. Friendly staff, nice food.
S. A.
Good filling meals. No good offers though
G. M.
I've had a few meals, both sit-in and take away, and all have been hot and delicious. Service is pretty quick too. Recommended.
P. M.
Food is delicious and place is hygienic. Almost tasts like authentic Indian food.
S. J.
Mixed vegetable curry and rice were very good. The vegetable pakoras were delicious, highly recommend! Fast and friendly service, and open late is a plus!
K. (.
Very good! Very nice people
Very warm and fast service
The best meal I have had in Scotland so far! Perfect for vegetarians and vegans!
a. T.
The food is good as is the service. However, unlike others who took the opportunity to do a refurbishment. The toilets were well worn.
P. S.
The options and the serving portions at this place are massive. We ordered 2 starters and 2 main course, and got majority of the main course packed up. Great food,
O. X.
The Tibet chicken wing is fabulous, pad Thai is not bad, the pad see you is quite salty, Tom yum soup is horrible to the max, garlic n pepper chicken is also salty. All in all, so so place, just have to order the food selectively
S. A.
Its a small seating restaurant serving Asian Halal Food, friendly staff. We were 5 people and paid £50, honestly we didn’t like the food very much bit for the price we paid it was not bad.
K. G.
Lovely food and staff
L. B.
Was in edinburgh with my kids came across noodle n rice so went in and found staff to be warm and welcoming
food was very nice and even when my little boy could not eat his food due to his (adhd) medication the staff put it in a container so he could have it later
very nice we have even came back again today and will deffo be back again next time we r in edinburgh
S. B.
Very Nice Thai Green Curry!!
Y. P.
We order Pad se eww and Panang curry for take away. Those are very great. We will come back there.
K. P.
Food was absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend a visit here
E. H.
I had a ramen and while the soup itself was really good the noodles were kind of lacking in flavor.
D. e. I. o. H.
One of the most tasty and halal food in Edinburgh. Specially Amanda the host is an amazing person. The taste of food increases because of her kind and polite attitude. Love this place. Amanda I miss ur hospitality.
P. D.
In a busy south bridge thoroughfare that has some terribly run down buildings the advent of this noodle and ice cream bar was a welcome addition to the area when it was first mentioned, now that it's open it was a pleasure to go with a friend and her daughter, the dining area on two floors were spacious but the kitchen area small, i noticed a huge bag of onions and food stock piled up against the fire door and a fire extinguisher propping up a door at the food prep area all of which contravenes many safety laws, the staff were friendly, the pad Thai was excellent I loved the crispy tofu and the chilli flakes on the side means you choose the spice strength they use local ice cream legends Luca's as their ice cream supplier and they have many refreshing options my friends daughter tried the mango sorbet, all in all it was a fun dinner in a good space they need to simplify a few things like storage and the loos which have a uni sex and a females seemed odd and confusing to young folk, and adhering to safety laws being a priority enjoy your visit.
F. K.
Great food, a bit small portion of noodle though. Really good quality of food and excellent delivery service.
F. H.
Incompetent staff, really long wait which was very surprising for a take-away... giving the number of clients (quite a lot but nothing amazing) and the panic in the waiters' eyes I just think they should not work on busy evenings... the food was ok though... worth the wait?
L. B.
Fantastic food every time. Been here a few times and have always thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the staff are lovely too. Highly recommended 👌
L. M.
Great atmosphere great food
C. J.
It was ok bit worried because I am a vegan and the guy didn't seem 100% sure what was ok, place seemed a bit gross, music was classic which seemed a bit weird for a Thai place
B. H.
Quick and tasty for the price you pay. Service variable depending on who's working that day seemingly. Additional seating upstairs means you rarely have to wait to be fed
I. V. A.
The food was quite bland which is a let down for Thai, starters were a lot better than the mains. It's ok but there are much better places to go instead in the area
E. S.
Best rice in town :)
A. I.
Really good Pad Thai and soups
f. a.
Thai green curry was really tasty. Would go back again for it. Pad thai was absolutely disgusting - Worse i have ever had
H. Y.
The staffs are nice here and the atmosphere is quite and comfortable. Food is good (c. £10 for a main course), although it needs quite a long wait.
C. A. J.
Tasty food really enjoyable. Good price as well
F. L.
The server is really polite ans food is yummy. It suits when extremely hungry.
J.
For a quick meal with great flavor I would recommend here
O. M.
Had lunch here with my family and food was hot, fast and delicious. Service was lovely and very hospitable x
S. T.
Various Asian cuisines such as Tom Yam Soup, Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Wonton Soup, Curry, etc. Good taste especially the fried rice. The service is okay.
C.
The staff was cool and friendly. We had 3 different meals and everything tasted very good.
M. G.
Very tasty food and friendly staff. I've been several times there and it's always delicious.
N. B.
The chickpea curry is amazing. A thousand stars would not be enough to do it justice.
m. e.
Good location, and honest unfussy noodle restaurant.
A. P.
Staffs were so friendly. The noodle taste very good, i love it. They also have a reasonable price
G. F.
Good food reasonable price good service!!!
A. G.
Ordered at 3 am. I think the chef may have been sleepy- thoroughly average. Not worth the effort or amount.
T. H.
Good food, and we all had empty plates! Would have liked a little more on the plate in termsbof portion size.
M. P.
Great taste and portions! I'm going to eat here every month! Worth every penny
M. A.
Fast service and serving, but the taste little bit sour for me..good place for asian food.
S.
I had a vegetarian curry with rice. One can pick two toppings. I had Chickpeas (Chana) and Dal Makhani. The taste was okay, similar to Mosque Kitchen which is nearby. The rice was simple plain steamed rice, unlike Jeera Rice in Mosque Kitchen.
However, the quantity was not as great as in Mosque Kitchen, yet manageable. The prices are similar.
A good thing: they play Hindi movie songs!
R. C.
Amazing food, the sauce they make here with their sea bass is just fantastic. Highly recommended.
G. R.
Delicious food. I returned the next evening for another enjoyable meal.
J. J.
Had the red curry and I wouldn't recommend it. The staff is kind and service is quick just not sold on the food.
F.
Offer average, slightly expensive, and limited selection of Asian food. Communication between staff seems poor.
A. D. J.
The food tasted very authentic asian, and there is nice variety of chinese and south east asian dishes. I can recommend the Pad Thai
J. O.
Noodles’ broth is not authentic, it’s like a package of instant noodles and then you just add protein on the top. Doesn’t worth it
A. S.
We had some amazing food. I found it really good that they had a kid menu.
F. A.
Not 5 stars good, but great for Asian food fix if you are craving it.
A. M.
Quick service. Food reasonably priced. Can of Coke very overpriced at £2.50
H. S. U. S.
The food there were delicious. Especially their fried rice
S. W.
Excellent, freshly cooked food, good, simple menu with kids options & excellent service with friendly staff
S. T.
Food was great. Could've been cheaper tho but overall its good
A. G.
Food quite tasty, however we were waiting too long and starters came after main course
P. M.
Top quality Chinese and Thai food. Loved chicken rice. Great place to dine
R. T.
Amazing food and good prices. A very good option in the city centre!
A. A.
Great tasting food. Excellent that it's halal...would definitely recommend.
S. H.
Had a wonderful massaman curry and coconut rice here with a nice cool beer!
T. O.
Food is average and too much sugar in it. Decoration is awful dark and music is a bit noisy.
E. K.
Delicious Thai food and large portions. The service was quick as well.
E.
The main courses are delicious (wouldn't bother with the starters) but the services is appallingly slow
A. A.
yummy Asian food in Edinborough. Middle of the city. Not too expensive.
S. Z.
Food seems good but not awesome. Price affordable and much more than usual.
M. A.
Great price and lovely curry ok rice. Needs yogart on the side!
A. S.
Love this place, staff are great fun and the food is delicious. Well worth a visit
M.
Garlic stir fry was awesome, but daaamn, thats a whole lotta garlic in there!
A. P.
Delicious food and affordable prices! Highly recommended.
R. G.
Very good and spicy green curry, quick friendly service
R. W.
One of my faveroute places to eat in edinburgh - love the food, love the aesthetic
L. C.
Really tasty. Warmed us in cold but fantastic Edinburgh.
S.
love this place, i seen papa doc in here when they were filming the avengers!
A. M. S.
Great ambiance with great food, the food is kind of fusion and that what makes it unique.
s. m.
