M. P.My daughter and I booked Number One for my wife's 50th birthday as a surprise. We expected great things from the venue due it's high standing in Edinburgh. I have to say it exceeded every expectation in every way possible. The very cool but classy entrance starts the journey where you are greeted by super efficient but very friendly, accomodating staff. The very well informed waiting staff were all on point and also showed a very welcome sense of humour throughout the evening. To say that the 7 course taster menu and the 3 course dinner were superb, really does not do the food and the presentation any justice. It was quite simply of the highest quality. Thank you to all those who made our visit very special and memorable.
S. K.It's hard to capture an evening like tonight in words. The building itself creates a magical atmosphere from the outset and it just gets better and better from there.
The chef and kitchen team are incredibly talented, Danielle and Lucille were very attentive, generous with their time and astute enough to leave us during intimate moments. It's not often a whole team understands the moments to leave and the moments to interrupt, but both ladies were incredibly good at their jobs and did it for us and others with grace and elegance.
Damien (the head Sommelier) created some truly unique and genius pairings. I'm often disappointed with the volume served with tasting menus, it's either not enough or I'm absolutely smashed after the seventh course, but Damien absolutely knocked it out of the park with every aspect. He was incredibly knowledgeable and also provided some additional options to try, for which I am truly appreciative.
It's a team effort and it really shows! Everyone worked hard to create a magical evening and I know it will be a birthday my wife will not forget!!

Definetly enjoyed the amount served to the point of being completely satisfied. One of the best meals I've had, and so far it edges out as the best Michelin star restaurant meal I've enjoyed thus far. Overall a beautiful experience that I would highly recommend anyone take in while in Edinburgh or even as the reason to make a stop over.

We choose the 7 course tasting menu. We enjoyed each plate, some more than others but especially the chocolate truffle bomb and the beef.
Would return again as the environment is relaxed and not rushed, service staff is very professional and the scotch bar above is great for after dinner drinks.

P. C.Probably one of the best dining locale in Edinburgh. Excellent menu selection, great wine pairing and overall ambience was top notch. They anticipate your needs and pace the meal really well.
Scallops, foie gras and halibut dishes excellent. Taste, balance and overall presentation spot on. If I had to find fault (which is difficult) I would say the desserts somewhat lacking. They felt rather over-engineered and hard to eat. Maybe it was just my selection. The petit fours at the end if the meal was good and made up for dessert so all's well!
Note : I say "probably" the best only because I have limited exposure in Edinburgh. Would certainly repeat the next time in town.
D. M.The food is as excellent as the service. Friendly and helpful staff cater to your every need and make the experience seem special. The menu is interesting and varied and provides a 3 course or taster menu. There is also a full vegetarian menu available on request. Extra touches like canapes, pre-cheese courses and mini desserts at no extra cost add to the occasion. It is obviously not cheap, but the quality of food and staff make it seem worth it.
