Reviews of Phuket Pavilion
R. A.
Had a fantastic experience at this lovely family restaurant. The food was amazing, had such good flavours! And very reasonably priced! The venue is so clean (even the toilets) and decorative. Staff were so friendly and attentive. I wish I had found this hidden gem earlier 😔Would absolutely come back here and recommend you do too!
V. M.
The place was amazing as well as the food. The portions are decent and the taste is superb! The staff is also very kind and fast.
Recommend it!
T. M.
Great quality food and great quality service. For starters we had Phuket wings, which were amazing, the steamed prawns were good. We also had the ribs which were ok, a little bit on the fatty side. For the mains I would really recommend the Weeping Tiger steak, along with number 30 (can't remember the name) was mixed sea food main which was also good, it has a tiny bit of a kick to it. Also the sweet potato fritters as a side! Thank you very much Phuket.
P. E.
Most of the food was just alright, but papaya salad not spicy at all, with peanuts, lime an fish sauce missing - overall it was the worst Tom Sam I've *ever* tried; waiting staff not particularly friendly or helpful. It was an average experience and we're unlikely to return
S. A.
I ordered a takeaway, half of which (soup and pad Thai) was bland and a bit tasteless, and the other half of which was delicious, and I would be very happy to order again. The som tum salad had a really good heat to it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The smoky mushrooms on skewers with satay sauce were lovely, and I'm glad I ordered two portions. The star of the meal was a stir fry of mixed mushrooms with cashews, which was superb. I really love mushrooms, and this dish showcased the very different textures of several different mushrooms, which made it really special. Portions were generous. Several of the main dishes on offer sounded really tasty, but were only available to order online with a choice of meat or seafood: I wish I could have ordered them as a vegetarian option.
R. H.
Lovely restaurant. Good range of food and the food was very tasty. And so was the green tea!
E. T.
This is a real authentic Thai food outside of Thailand. The food is superb! Super delicious. I’m like back in Thailand. The staff are so friendly with the Thai tradition touch. Very central too the location of this restaurant. Very easy to find. Must come and taste the food.
Highly recommended to have meals here!!!
H. R.
Absolutely top draw meal, had the 2 starter deal between 4.30 and 6.30 available on weekdays. Really lovely food, the thai green was exceptional and one of the nicest i have had. Definitely recommend to anyone in edinburgh 👍
B. P.
Good location and service. Not too much choice for vegetarians. Got green curry I think#63 which was too salty. Spring rolls were ok but nothing wow in what I tried. Beautiful interior though!
R. V.
A beautifully decorated restaurant, with a nice atmosphere. It has a good menu with plenty of options and reasonably priced. We particularly enjoyed our starters which were absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, and it was really good to see the man behind the desk, who I'm assuming is the owner, actually helping the staff out when needed rather than just ordering them around. It gave the impression the staff are well looked after and appreciated, and they work well together as a team. It certainly showed as our food arrived very quickly, and our drinks were always kept nice and full.
J. C.
Really nice little Thai restaurant perfectly located across from the Edinburgh Playhouse if you fancy having a pre-show meal. Menu is decent and the food we had all went down well. Staff are all friendly and service was good. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is they didn't have everything listed on the menu. But I've been twice now and I'm sure I'll be back again.
M. S.
Great variety of options, nice staff, really flavorful! I mean Thai food is all about the sweet, sour, and spicy and they have that. One thing is they I do wish there were spicy options.
S. T.
Great authentic thai food, excellent friendly efficient service. Lovely atmosphere and environment.
L. R.
We had the best experienced in Phuket Pavilion Thai Restaurant. Fantastic food and amazing customer service skills, friendly staff. We even have the opportunity to meet and greet the owner. I will definitely come back again. 💯% recommend to anyone who will visit Edinburgh. This little gem hidden in the corner of Union Street, Edinburgh.
c. C.
Very tasty meal and good value
B. F.
This place is amazing! The food was delicious, and their prices are very reasonable!!
M. E.
Stumbled across this place tonight while trying to find a place for dinner before our film. The staff were fantastic and the food was outstanding. Would recommend to anyone and will be back again very soon
r. m.
Excellent food! Thai green and red curry is out of world! And filling too!
C. N.
Really yummy food and accommodating staff. Will be back!
M. H.
Dining in, taking out or delivery - Phuket Pavilion never disappoints.
L. R.
Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely experience!
S. B.
I celebrated my son’s baptism at the Phuket Pavillion restaurant. The food was delicious, good service and friendly staff and the price very affordable and a great location. Highly recommend it to everyone.
K. R.
Very good food and friendly enough service but we waited a long time for our meals. Group of 13.
M. P.
My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. They cater well for larger groups. Food is fresh with a wide selection of traditional Thai food. (It may not be to everyone’s taste) but I love the service. The food is great too / really good prawns.
G. D.
Lovely food 😋good service ☺friendly staff🙃what more can you want. The sharing platters and banquet meals are a must 😋
T. M.
Brilliant service. Great food.
K. L.
Authentic Thai food in a nicely decorated, centrally located spot. Staff were friendly but service was incredibly slow; we didn't get to order another round of drinks and we had to ask for our bill. Regardless, I'll definitely return when I'm next in Edinburgh.
M. M.
Amazing authentic Thai food with lovely customer service!! The sticky rice was perfect and the curries were both delicious. We recommend the green curry with spinach and bean curd! Spicy spicy spicy green papaya salad!! Would have visited again if we were staying longer
a. b.
The place is busy, atmosphere is good and personnel are very friendly. We had ordered two curries. They had initially forgotten our order and after 45 minutes or so they realised and approached us to apologise. They made up for it well enough and seemed genuinely apologetic, they also offered us things on the house.
The curries were both very tasty, only thing we found a bit odd was that the rice portions were very small. Also, me and my friend both ordered one portion each since the curry didn't come with any rice. And both our portions were served in one single bowl, which I also found a bit strange. Overall, good experience, a bit pricey but the food is very good. Will definitely return.
S. M.
We had the pre-theatre menu, which offers 2 courses for £15.45, and a jungle curry from the main menu. All the dishes we had were very tasty and fresh and the service is very good. The green curry was a little thick and sweet for my taste but still very good. The jungle curry had a real kick to is and was delicious.
E. M.
One of the best thai restaurants in Scotland
H. G.
Amazing restaurant. Staff were really friendly & excellent with my daughter, especially the gentleman that talked to us about Edinburgh and our holiday. All the Thai food was delicious particularly the vegetarian platter.
D. B.
Thoughtful staff. They opened up a section of the restaurant for us so we didn’t have to sit at the only table left that was next to loud kids. The food was fast and INCREDIBLE. I got the #49 Pad Numman Hoi with king prawns and strongly recommend it. There are a few picture of it posted here from other users. Service was incredible, restaurant is thoughtfully decorated and clean.
G. P.
Good food, affordable price and nice service. My only negative note is that portions were a bit smaller than expected, looking at the price. You may not go away completely full, but you'll leave absolutely happy. Curry was particularly tasty.
N. B.
Excellent Thai restaurant. Great options for gluten free food. Very good experience.
C. P.
Really good thai food, clean restaurant, pleasant staff. We were able to get a table right away at 7 pm on a Wednesday, but it started to really fill up as we were leaving. Had two main dishes and one appetizer for 30 pound.
Z. K.
The decor was nice and the service was fine but the food was very mediocre for a Thai restaurant in Edinburgh. The beef salad that was ordered was very salty and didn't have and enough flavour apart from the salt and the portion sizes for around £15 for a main course were small. Alongside the salty beef the amount of salad to go with it was very small. Overall I would say there are much nicer restaurants in the city especially for the price they are asking.
R. O.
Back for th 1st time since lockdown not disappointed the food is better than ever will be back soon
F. H.
Having been before and enjoyed the meal we returned to sample something else from the menu. Again we were not disappointed with the food. Cooked to requirements and very tasty. Service was good considering that the restaurant was busy. Certainly will return in the future.
I. G.
Great food, friendly service.
J. J. R.
If you’ll be in Edinburgh, I would highly recommend this Thai Restaurant!🇹🇭
Excellent location in the center of Edinburgh.
Food was amazingly authentic Thai, from the starters to the mains.
The staff & owners were really kind and service was absolutely fantastic!👍👍
I salute the owners who were really hands on and we enjoyed the chat though they were quite busy, I / we will be back someday!🤞
M. P.
We are vegetarian and Thai food is one of our favorite cuisines... the food here was so delicious. We had the Panang Curry and Pad Kee Mao and both had the perfect spice level and awesome flavors. This filled our craving for Thai food in every way. And the service was also great. All in all, a great place to dine!
c. f.
It's fine for a tasty Thai meal. The service was excellent however siting close to the door us a problem as its freezing everytime some one walks in. The good itself is a bit lack luster, the classics are fine, however stray from the well trodden path and its sure to disappointm I had a dish of such that was sliced so thinly it was obvious that it wasn't cooked fresh and so unexpectedly sweet, to the point of inedible
P. S.
Made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in. Great attention to detail in the layout of cutlery, cloths, glasses etc. Service impeccable from the one server who appeared to be running the whole service herself.
Food service was prompt as one would expect for a pre-show menu but I didn't expect the quality and attention to detail in the preparation and presentation.
We had starters and main which were ordered, served and consumed in just over the hour yet the service did not feel rushed and was very relaxed. A true testament the the kitchen staff and the ever-smiling server.
All too quickly, we had to leave. I didn't want to make fuss so I give her a little clap which she appeared to appreciate. Thank you for the wonderful start to my 60th birthday celebration.
If you are now thinking about giving The Phuket Pavilion a try, don't leave it as long as I did. Book now. You won't regret it!
J. R.
This is a fairly basic looking Thai restaurant over the road from the theatre. I went for proximity to my hotel as travelling alone for work. The meal was excellent, fresh and everything was delicious. Lovely unobtrusive friendly service. Excellent value.
C. W.
Lovely authentic Thai food. Good pre theatre menu. Only downside were poor oily prawn crackers (free). Like Chinese style instead of the more wheat dry thai style. Didnt spoil my meal though and will be back. Lovely friendly staff too.
t. d.
Really nice food. Good service.
Walked in on a whim as we were passing by and turned out to be a great choice.
Got sat near the door which blew a gale because of the weather so would recommend asking to sit out of the way a little if possible.
H. M.
I like this place. I want to say authentic food, but never having been to Thailand, I can't substantiate such a claim. What I can say is that the food is vibrantly delicious, fresh and exquisitely prepared. The decor is themed (carved chairs, gaudy pictures, jangly music) without being naff. Staff are friendly and knowledgable (happy to discuss ingredients to a strict veggie with a mushroom allergy). Service can be a little slow but I think this is down to being overly attentive once you have captured their attention. Perfect location for theatre nights.
P. S.
The staffs are nice, I’ve got a wonderful meal!
S. S.
Amazing food and reasonable prices minutes from Princes Street. We tried the Pad KraPow and a Jungle spiced curry with egg fried rice. Both were flavorful and spicy but not excessively so. Well worth its reputation as one of the best Thai restaurants in Edinburgh.
B. G.
Even though it's across from the Playhouse, just down Union street, I'd still call Phuket Pavilion a hidden gem. The look from the outside is unpretentious and unimpressive especially if you are going out to a play or event, you might think on passing this place for something classier. You would be mistaken. This is some of the best and most authentic Thai food I have ever had. Even the tables, place settings and servers are authentic. The owners carefully monitor every dish and table to ensure satisfaction. I started with the Tom Kah, moved to the Sea Bass, then a mango dessert. Wow! An Indian family of 6 from London were seated next to me. I overheard them saying this was the best meal they had for a week during their stay in Edinburgh. They actually applauded their waiter and the owner at meals finish. I don't live close by but decided to buy gift certificates for my friends who live there. I know it was a good move.
a.
Had spring rolls for starters and a pad Thai for mains. Food came quickly and flavours were great. Didn’t feel as greasy as typical chain restaurants. Prices were decent as well.
P. R.
I used to live in Edinburgh a number of years ago and used to come regularly for the jungle curry, perhaps it was because I was so looking forward to it, but unfortunately it lacked the luster which I had once loved. I presume the chef has changed. IT was nice to see the old Irish owner and wife still working away. It is also rather expensive for whats on offer.
K. T.
An amazing tasty meal and courteous staff. Will certainly be back
S.
Best thai cuisine I ve had in 20 years! The Thai green curry with king prawns ab fab! The mango and coconut dessert out of this world!!! The service: impeccable! Cannot remember the last time I saw a waitress smile! Thank you all!
H. P.
Had a lovely pre-theatre meal here.Could not fault anything.. Service first class.. Food excellent. Would definitely go back. Highly recommend a visit. X
M. M.
The best Thai food I had ever.Friendly and kind people ,and very good ,quick service and delivery.
Thank you guys
n.
Love it! The food is amazing! One of the best Thai places I've ever eaten in and the service is great! I will definitely go again!
J. G.
We had a lovely meal for about 14 of us. The staff had taken note of one of our party's allergies and explained which dishes were safe and which to avoid.
S. M.
Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in Edinburgh. Hidden away off leith walk, but right next to Omni Centre. Ideal for pre-theatre or film night. Really really good quality food. Although I've been lucky with getting a walk in seat for two on all my occasions on Fridays and Saturdays, I'd recommend booking ahead.
R. P.
The Mixed seafood grill and the Weeping Tiger steak were both excellent. Sebastian bit on a red chili then swallowed it, which was unfortunate. The decor is plain and unromantic and the service was slow but friendly. We would recommend and return.
K. A.
Very authentic food, every dish was extremely good. Service was great also. Not the cheapest, but well worth it.
R. U.
My favourite thai spot in Edinburgh. Good service and tasty food. Nice pre theatre menu if you are eating early. Worth a try
A.
Excellent, staff were very friendly, the food was very very good, the staff were good to our children and gave them free pudding and the bill was cheap.
We will make a point of going there when we are in Edinburgh next
L. V. E. R.
Authentic Thai food that is always full of flavour. Pleasant staff and good drinks selection. Quite an expensive restaurant.
S. P.
Excellent Thai food, very delicious and fresh. Lovely interior and great staff. Not the cheapest place to go but the food is worth it.
F. S.
Great service and fantastic food. Pre theatre menu is only £13.95 for two courses of loveliness! Well worth a visit.
G. x.
I love this place, it is my favourite Thai restaurant in Edinburgh. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and there wide selection of choice on the menu.
D. U.
Good food and lovely staff and atmosphere.
M. A.
The pre theater menu is good value for money. The food is good but service was very strange with misunderstandings, things being slammed down on the table and staff appearing unfriendly. Altogether mixed experience.
B. P.
Lots of options, amazing and big portions.
We were a party of 10 and the service was always attentive. Will definitely be back!
S. L.
Decent food at a bit of a high rate for the quality provided. Service is a bit slow. Lots of options though.
M. K.

(Translated) The store clerk and chef are Thai people, but the taste was a little different from the authentic one. Of course it is delicious because it is Thai food, but it seemed like something was missing. The store is large and I think it's okay without reservations.
