Fine dining in relaxed surroundings where you can feel at ease and just enjoy yourself. Both of us had ' conditions', one wheat intolerant and the other, reluctantly, presently needing to go easy on wine. Both were catered for without any fuss and the menu adjusted accordingly where necessary. Others have described the quality of the cooking and we agree wholeheartedly, some amazing flavours. We look forward to returning soon.

Had the most wonderful dining experience here! My boyfriend and I had the five course tasting menu with matching wines which were just amazing! The food was to die for and the wines were very specifically chosen to compliment each dish. The restaurant itself is small, cute, and cosy, and a super relaxed environment for you to enjoy yourself! The service was amazing too! Fast and friendly- we were even recommended local bars to go to and where to enjoy a scenic view of the sunset over the city! I adored it

We have gone for 7 courses tasting menu. The dishes are very unique (cooking technique but not the ingredient), I do find something is kind of missing in our dining experience. Perhaps for a fine dining and the price, we expected more. I find the portion is a bit too small. There were quite a lot of house flies around during our dining experience so overall I would say it is a 3.5 star experience. The service is very good.

Amazing 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing, the jus with the lamb main course is quite possibly one of the best things I've ever tasted quite literally like liquid gold. The staff were very friendly & attentive, if you are looking for something along the fine dining route and want somewhere quite intimate then this is definitely the place to go.

We had such an amazing experience at Purslane I cannot recommend it enough to others! Not knowing exactly what to expect, when first walking in the ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and comfortable and the staff were friendly and inviting. We chose the 7 course tasting menu and every bite was incredible. We were provided excellent details on the wine and dishes we were enjoying. The food was phenomenal, each dish was flavorful and well balanced and thoughtful. We left feeling stuffed and satisfied! I would highly recommend Purslane to others, and am hopeful to return to Edinburgh again solely to go back to Purslane!

Had the Sunday lunch roast beef with paired wines and it was a revelation. We don't tend to do fine dining very often but am aware that it either firmly disappoints or rocks your world. Was very much the latter in this case; tastiest meal I've had since 2019 and very memorable indeed.

Had the most incredible dinner here. My boyfriend and I got the 7 course tasting menu with paired wines and a cheese board. Every single dish was beyond expectation, the fish course and pre-dessert especially were astounding. There was even a small surprise course of a mini rabbit lasagne which was honestly one of the best things I have ever tasted. The wines that went along with the food were delicious by themselves, but beautiful regardless. The staff were very friendly and also just really exceptional at their jobs. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the music went perfectly with the meal, making the atmosphere honestly just lovely. Purslane went above and beyond expectations and I could not recommend it more.

One if the best meals I have every had, we've been fortunate enough to visit some exceptional restaurants in our time (Royal Hospital Road, 21212 and L'Enclume to name some) and I think the food here stands up to them. Exceptional quality, very small and intimate, expensive but worth it for the whole dining experience.

Good value, worth a visit and will definately visit again. Knowledgable, discreet and polite staff who add a relaxed and cosy feeling to the experience. The restaurant floor is minimal yet warm and Edinburgh-esque. The ingredients, reductions, consomè, seasoning, cooking times were easily a 9/10. What we would haved liked to have seen more of is textures. Also, in our opinion, the bread could benefit of longer furmentation to develop more flavour and better crust. Finally, the wine pairings were amongst the best we have ever experienced.

Quite an intimate restaurant. Less than 15 tables in total. Food was good staff are knowledgeable about food and wine pairings. The hakein the kedgeree was rubbery. Rest of the dishes were done well. Would definitely recommend. It is a basement restaurant, so if you have a problem with stairs, perhaps not for you.

It was a pleasure to eat at Purslane. In terms of value - incredible. The reality is you’re getting a fine dining experience for half the price and there’s not much point in not going all out! We had the full tasting menu with matching wines and it really did make the evening a bit different. Truly recommend this place.

If you are looking for something that is not the usual, something different and interesting then this is your place. The food is amazing, pleases the taste buds whilst looks great too. There is a good selection of dishes, vegetarians and meat eaters both will find something interesting. The menu options are great but a la carte is also available. Portions are OK, they are not too big but if you try 5 or 7 courses, you don’t want full plates. The desserts are yummy. The staff is very friendly. There are not many tables so booking is highly recommended as the place is quite popular and busy. It is a bit pricey but it is worth every penny.

You DEFINITELY have to go there if you are in Edinburgh. The food is amazing, really tasty and very well presented. The service is perfect, the restaurant is beautiful, small and cozy. If you are going in the evening, be aware that you should call them for bookings, you may not be able to find yourself a table otherwise. They do a lunch menu with real affordable prices !

Absolutely first class. Sensational food, quality wine pairings and friendly service, all at great value. Intimate setting. Our favourite dishes were the scallops to start and sea bass for mains. Venison also delicious. Rabbit tart was the least special but measured against very high standards. Alberiño white and Barbera were the top two wines we enjoyed. Perfect restaurant for a special occasion.

I had the time of my life at Purslane today. Hubby and I had the 5 course taster menu and I had the paired wine option. The sommelier really knows his wine, every match was spot on. I've never had such an exquisite, personalised dining experience. I will most certainly return and I have already recommended a visit to my family and friends.

The food was incredible, and the staff was unbelievably kind. One of the waiters (Angelo) gave us a recommendation on a creek to see after lunch, which was a small walk and trek down hill. I left my purse behind at the restaurant, and Angelo found us all the way down at the creek to return the purse. I didn’t even realize I left the purse behind until he came all the way down the creek from the restaurant to find us. Thanks Angelo!

Small independent place. I thought the food was lovely. A niggle for me was that the candle was out on our table and it was left for over an hour until we mentioned it. Sounds insignificant I know, but they only had 7 tables and your competing with places like the Balmoral or the Savoy on price / quality and they'd simply never make a mistake like that.. and for the prices being charged you do expect perfection. (We actually went to the Balmoral the next day and it was cheaper)

Taken us 18 months to dine just along the road. Which, as it turns out, was too long. Had lunch on Saturday, 5 course and premium wine flight. Well, it was my birthday. Some really good cooking. Highlight, fractionally, the scallops. Even my wife agreed and she usually thinks scallops are a bit....scallopy. The wines were gloriously described by the Spanish sommelier who was so impartial he didn't include a Spanish wine in the selection. He's working on it. All with a musical backdrop from "Now that's what I call music, vol 27, 1974. Though it might be vol 28. "I saw Lon Chaney walking down St. Stephen Street....ahooooooo".

A hidden gem in Edinburgh! A small, intimate dining experience. The staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do whilst remaining discreet and giving you the space to really enjoy your food . The food is absolutely stunning. Last weekend we had a wonderful celebratory lunch for fourteen people at Purslane. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and helpful. The menu easily accommodated a vegetarian and gluten free member of the party and the choice and quality of food was super. Unfortunately they couldn't take us for an evening meal due to our party size, however, we had the place to ourselves for lunch which was probably a better option and I was delighted that they offered either the lunch or evening a la carte menu so everyone was happy. The food was imaginative and perfectly cooked and everyone commented on how good the meal was. From gin and tonic cocktails to the 'happy birthday' plates for two of the party it was a lovely experience.

Attended here in a large group, for such a small restaurant they did their best to accommodate us all. The service was excellent with all the staff seemingly beavering about us making sure our drinks were full and our food was good. The food was excellent, they even catered for my vegan diet with the chef himself coming out to speak to me about what they could offer me. I started with the tomato and artichoke terrine which was delicately flavoured and quite excellent. My terrible memory wont allow me to give the full titles of the dishes I ate but I can assure you they were good. My main was a roasted cauliflower dish meant to be served with a cheese sauce but they served mine with a salsa verde and again it was excellent. Our party stayed quite late without the staff pushing us out the door. The food here is on par with other fine dining restaurants in Edinburgh, many burnished with a Michelin star, which I am sure Purslane will achieve if they keep the level of cooking and service provided at our visit.

The venison ballotine is the standout here, it brings a level of sophistication that's right at home here and for a compact restaurant it feels are the more delicious to be sampling any of the food here. Guinea fowl when you can get it - any dish is worth the price of admission.

Fine dining restaurant in Stockbridge. This was the first tasting menu that I have ever had and I loved it but have since had numerous better experiences in other fine dining restaurants. However I would say that this is one of the less expensive fine dining restaurants on offer in Edinburgh and is still a very high standard. There was nobody else in the restaurant when we visited so the atmosphere wasn't that great but the service was excellent and the food was very tasty and all thoughtfully prepared. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would certainly recommend although there are better fine dining restaurants available in Edinburgh.

There are many great restaurants in Edinburgh, this tiny out of the way place is amongst my favourites for fine dining. We generally have the tasting menu with matching wines and there's always at least one course which blows us away. Last time it was a shallot tarte tatin with loin. The chef has a great pallette for mixing subtle flavours.
