Had a lovely afternoon tea and drinks at Scotts in the Mercure Hotel Princes Street. Staff were so professional and friendly they created a great experience. Dietary needs catered for with no fuss and the bubbly was brilliant. Highly recommend the view, the calm ambience and the experience. Will definitely return to try lunch and/or dinner.

I ordered Salmon served with shallots and prawns which according to the menu came with new potatoes. I had to put my glasses on to find the prawns as they were so tiny. There was one new potato cut into 4 pieces. Even with my glasses on I couldn't find the shallots. I asked the waitress if I could have a few more potatoes which she said would take 7 minutes to steam. I was surprised to see they charged me £2.00 for an extra serving of potatoes plus a 10% service charge was added to the bill. Shame really as it was my Birthday meal. 🎂

The most important thing to know is how to find it. We were looking for Scott's. We couldn't find it. You need to look for Mercure hotel. There is only a little sign to indicate it houses scott's. So much is about attention to detail. I think this is our first afternoon tea where teabags were used. Using leaf tea, to me elevates it from the mundane and ordinary. I don't drink tea and had a black coffee. For my second cup the waitress asked me to check it was black coffee as she was not sure the correct button on the machine had been pressed. We were also presented with another table's bill. When we had our second cups if drink the waitress, very sensibly, removed most of the debris but while we were still drinking and eating another waitress arrived to clear the plates. I would have understood if they were busy but there was only a couple of other tables occupied. The afternoon tea was very pleasant - with a lovely view. The food was tasty and fresh. One last thing. It only takes two minutes to sort your flags out so they're flying rather than wrapped.

Mixed feelings about this place. The view from the restaurant is quite nice and the food was good but the staff seemed disinterested and disconnected with the customer. The facilities were run down and although some interesting theming, there is some definite need of some TLC inside.
