Everything is perfectly tasty, first time having my fish and chips with brown sauce and the tartare sauce was particularly good, fish and chip were top end but missing that sea side spark you usually get from coastal restaurants. Nothing to complain about mind and the waitress was lovely.

The restaurant is situated at a convenient location not very far from the Portobello Beach and is sectioned into distinct dine-in and takeaway area. I ordered a variety of dishes over a couple of visits, ranging from Haggis Tweeds to Margherita Pizza to Tiramisu. While all of the dishes served are good, their Haddock in Batter is one of the best fish and chips one can get in Edinburgh. The place is reasonably priced and is definitely recommended to try out. Coffee was good and as I drink americano you know if the coffee is not good, this coffee was lovely, I had two cups. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the service from Lukasz was superb. Nice enough place to eat and the menu was good. Bad timing for our arrival at dinner time on 2nd January when everyone was enjoying a beautiful sunny day around Portobello beach. Early afternoon and we entered the place at the same time as a number of others. There were few staff working and they were covering the restaurant and take away. Despite their best efforts we all had a long wait for our meal. Got to say that the lad who was covering the restaurant did his best with a smile and the food was fresh and hot. Well done. By the way. We still think of lunch as dinner and dinner as tea. Call me old fashioned.

My wife I visited at lunchtime on what was our 57th wedding anniversary as we were tired & wanted a break prior to returning home from the centre of Edinburgh. The meal was very satisfying. We had forgotten how enjoyable it used to be forty years ago when we would visit every Friday after work. This brought it all back. A break thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back.

TL:DR Soggy Fish and Chips and wonky free for all queuing system in take away section. Excellent Pizzas though. This restaurant has been a fixture of Portobello for decades and started out as a take away fish and chip shop before adding a very nicely designed restaurant and overall presents a modern and attractive look to customers. It can be very busy. However it may look well designed and fashionable but there are some problems. Firstly the food. Bought a take-away fish supper last night and sorry to say both chips and fish were soggy and greasy. They don't have to be like that and if you take a trip further down the coast to Allandas in Port Seton or their stand at Longniddry beach then you will find far better cooked fish and chips. On the plus side I also had a pizza which was totally excellent...Base was delicious and topping was tasty. Secondly what is going in with their queuing system?!! Normally in a fish and chip you stand at the counter in a queue but here its just a random standing about anywhere. When you go in you don't know where to stand and who is in front of you so I would advice them to sort that out to minimise stress to customers. Also no one welcomes you with a nice hello or smile and all the servers look serious and under pressure. They are pretty much the only fish and chip shop in the area so of course they are so busy the odd bit of criticism might not worry them but things don't last for ever and quality will in the end count. I would go back for pizza but not the fish and chips. There are better places around for that even if they are a bit of a drive down the coast.

Aways go back to St Andrews have gone here since come back to Musselburgh over 35 years ago, remember the older lady who must ran the shop with her husband she was a grafter tried local shops but can't beat this chippy and restaurant still go here and now our great grandchildren love it ,took them for a treat 6weeks ago to the restaurant they loved it a keep saying when can we go back ,can we go for christmas , think we might suprise them at chrismas holidays. love you lovely people.

Excellent chippy with freshly cooked fish (you may have to wait 10 minutes or so but it's worth it). My son discovered burger 'n' cheese, which is deep fried in batter (no bread) - teenager heaven. Operating in a Covid safe way. You have to wear a mask and only 2 people in at once so queue outside to wait to order and wait to collect.

Over rated fish snd chips. Tried it before and couldn't work out what all the fuss was about. Everything was fine except the fish itself was tasteless. Either its whiting sold as haddock or just not fresh. Not a patch on Benes in Edinburgh or East Lothian, Fishmarket in Newhavan has also gone down the pan.

Ah!..voted best fish and chipshop 2018? 🤔 Mmmh...not 2019 then I should think. To be fair, the fish was goodish. I liked the way the uncooked fillets were displayed at the counter, that is a very nice touch and a learning point for others Fresh, thick pearly haddock...just short of season, so good enough. The 'batter was another matter'...crisp, but quite sparse and not really casing the fillet properly. The chips were goddam awful sorry. Soggy, cool and very unappetising...like they had been hanging around for some time.They were sold to me that way and ended up in the first bin I could find outside the shop. At 4.30 in the afternoon, I wouldn't expect 'hingaboot chips' especially at the price I paid. A £7 fish supper should be faultless in my view. So many so called 'top shops' fail on batter one way or another. This wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best... or worth the premium price 😕

On Wednesday I invited my friend out for a fish tea to help celebrate his birthday! We'd been once before after a long walk along the Prom. Instead of a carry out, we sat in the dining area. Very impressed! After enjoying our delicious fish and chips, we thought we'd return! So on Wednesday we ordered the fish and chips! Again, fresh fish and chips to die for! Our waiter was great and helped us with our requests! We were so full up, we didn't need a desert! Maybe next time! Thank you for making my friend's birthday that little more special. Highly recommended this restaurant!

So the food its self was nice the only problem was that it was coated in salt I think I got a months worth of salt in one go. I asked for salt no vinegar. They put salt on my chips fair enough they put salt on my 2 battered sausages 😒 why I have no idea. Oh yea you can't buy just 1 jumbo battered sausage they come as a pair. Quite pricey too £8.10 for reg chips and 2 battered sausages and a curry sauce. Must have paid for that months worth of salt I guess.

I meet a friend at this restaurant every 2 months or so and usually have the fish and chips, which are good. I thought I would try the lasagne for a change as I fancied some comfort food but was disappointed with the quality, the portion and the presentation - a small bowl of lasagne without even any garnish - it looked pretty lonely on the plate and I was still hungry afterwards. recommend for fish and chips and my friend enjoyed her pizza but avoid the lasagne!

Regular customer of Portobello's legendry take away. Never had a bad experience or meal. Really good selection of stone baked oven pizza's as well as all the regulars. In house resteraunt if you want to go out for a meal. Only downside is getting there and finding a parking space! Certainly one of the best chip shop experiences in the area. Prices are high for a chip shop however the portions and quality are very good.

I liked the atmosphere in the restaurant. When I was in the restaurant there were only locals, which for me, as a tourist, was a nice experience. I liked hearing their accent and seeing how they are. The service was impeccable and the food was very good. The ordered fish was fresh and very tasty. We liked the food here so much that the second evening we ordered kebab at home, but we didn't like it. I recommend trying the restaurant, especially for fish.

Very nice place, food and staff. :) We've stayed in restaurant, quite late and they've given us a very good service. I really appreciate the atmosphere of the place, because being a new they keep it fresh but cozy at the same time: The huge window (we've had the table next to it), the ambiental music (not too loud), the great display of the lights (warm filament bulbs), spacious tables, cozy space (not too big), everything clean & tidy. Least but not less important, the waitress was very kind with us (even we arriving quite late), the service was fast and the food fresh & tasty. We really recommend it! <3

Very good fish and chips long queue Let down by the fact got chocolate fudge cake with cream promised a spoon at time of ordering when handed the food got told no spoons however to use a chip fork. This to be fair cost them a star and I wouldn't order a desert from here again.

Best chippy I've had in a long time, been disappointed with other places such as the fish market and cafe picante. But at st Andrews they hit the spot perfectly. - portion sizes are good (not like the stingy portions from the fish market) - fish was amazing (not soggy as you get it from cafe picante) - best of all it is reasonably priced. -staff was friendly enough (could be slightly happier) -service was quick , from ordering to receiving took no longer than 2mins for 2 fish supper.

Best fish n chips we ever had! And that’s not an overstatement, this Cypriot family owned restaurant and takeaway is a MUST when visiting Portobello Beach or even Edinburgh. The batter was light and delicate, the fish incredible fresh, and the chips just right. Portion size and price are fab too. Just wish I didn’t live in London and could go all the time!

Be wary of the custom pizza toppings. I was on a date with a fine lady and ordered an egg on my pizza to look and feel sophisticated. My date pondered "what on earth do you mean? An egg on a pizza?". I reassured her it's common thing in Europe and that it would be softly baked into the centre of the pizza. Imagine my fear in recieving a pizza with a hard boiled pickled egg cut unevenly on my the cheesy surface. I had to explain this was an alternative way to do egg pizzas. Needless to say I've been dropping eggy farts since and a second date might not be on the cards.

St Andrews Restaurant is situated near the centre of Portobello in Edinburgh, a beautiful seaside resort. So it's no wonder it's extremely busy not just in summer, but all year round. My wife, son and myself each enjoyed a very tasty fish supper each, served by the young lady at the counter, who was very friendly and pleasant. Adjoining the fish shop is St Andrews restaurant next door, which has beautiful decor, very chic, clean, tidy. It cost a little bit more sitting in the restaurant but worth every penny. Worth visiting I would not go past it, so if your in area try it out. Highly recommended.

Found this after trying one or two not so great fish and chip shops in Portobello. This is by far the best, have had several fish suppers here and haven't been disappointed. Consistently great food that seems to be cooked fresh. Staff are also delightful.

Having taken the opportunity to visit this establishment whilst in the Portobello area I must admit I was rather unsure of the quality given the lack of reviews, but as it wasn't expensive I gave it a try. The Fish (Cod) and Chips were excellent, certainly first class in quality. The batter was light, crispy and fried to perfection, and the fish was fresh. The chips were fresh and light without being too oily. The service was also fast, courteous and friendly. I would recommend this place as a cheap, cheerful and decent food restaurant, although as I only had the Fish (Cod) and chips I can't comment on the other stuff they have on offer. Was it perfect? No. But for the price, quality and atmosphere it certainly was very good value for money.

The staff were lovely and knowledgeable, and made sure to bring my food out with gluten free vinegar and other condiments. Thoughtful and thorough, reasonably priced and great service.

Our order was taken by the very pleasant waitress , we both ordered the haddock & chips one with mushy peas and one with garden peas , our meals arrived promptly , they were steaming hot and delicious , lovely big sized fish in a crispy batter accompanied with tasty square chips hot and well cooked . My friend had a soft drink and I a nice pot of tea served with a smile from the waitress - while the sauces and the meals themselves by the friendly waiter . We also met Harem the very friendly Manager who had delivered us up a very enjoyable meal . We will be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu, and should you find your self in search of value for your money by the way of a fine fish supper or a hearty meal ( there's plenty to choose from ), get yourself down to Portobello and the St.Andrews Restaurant .
