Reviews of Swanston Brasserie
L. P.
Lovely views, very nice staff who were friendly and helpful. The food was fine, your typical pub grub.
a. b.
Had a coffee and scone really nice have eaten before defo go back sat outside on balcony great views recommended
D. B.
In its own spot ideal for walk golf and farm, so not impossibly busy unlike other spots nearby, very friendly and good fairly priced food, a find!
A. J.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Good menu selection. Food is good but not amazing. Views are great but lacks atmosphere. the terrace wasn't open but there's normally tables outside as well. Parking is plentiful and there are ramps into the building and lifts inside.

Date of visit - 11.10.2019
Very hygienic and cozy place.
Very friendly staff.
Loved the food.

Beautiful views over Edinburgh and down the east coast.

My friend and I only had a soft drink. When I paid, the cheeky waiter said " bet that broke the bank!" We were not impressed.
Lovely place, great location. Perhaps some staff training is required.
G. V.
Stopped in for a warm-up before climbing to visit the Highland Coos at Swanston Farm.
Our server, Alex, was warm and welcoming.
The bacon and scrambled egg rolls definitely hit the spot.
We most highly recommend this Brasserie based on our experience. If you think of it - ask for Alexandria!

Wow, what a beautiful place. The surrounding grounds are beautifully cared for, the staff are professional as well as giving great customer service. I was recommended a beautiful Chardonnay wine and had the steak pie... The most beautiful steak pie I've tasted in a while. We were sat right by the window looking out across the course. It was lovely, there were several flower bouquets dotted around the building that were absolutely stunning ! I need the number for their florist ! Definitely recommend going. Great value for money, great service, great food.
C. B.
They could not be kinder or friendlier, even to students who are a bit muddy. I have a limited experience of the menu because we only ever order the seabass and the omelette because they are absolutely exceptional, and gluten free. There are a few good gf options, a thoughtful menu, and they have a dedicated fryer so the chips are safe and AMAZING. (The sticky toffee pudding is also lovely but not gf.) The view is gorgeous, and on the whole this is a delightful place to go after or before a walk or trek or golf or just because.

Great location...good outside terrace.
Varied menu..

We were there on a busy Sunday afternoon and it was brilliant. When I booked i asked for a table with a view and it was stunning, The food was delicious and the staff were great and really friendly - especially the lovely lady who served us most of the time. The battered fish and chips was amazing. A fabulous place.
A.
Amazing mince pie scones and hot chocolate! Very friendly staff and great service in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend. I may have to go back for a third visit this week!
J. F.
Lovely food, attentive staff, good spacing between tables. Altogether a restaurant I look forward to going back to when I can. A lovely experience, and one I have already been telling friends about.
R. H.
Free parking with nice views, food was above average so decent place. Apart from a wobbly table there were no issues.
A. H.
Relaxing atmosphere, great tasting food with some amazing views....lovely place for a group or special meal!
J. R.
Here last Saturday 9th April set menu aboulstly loved it here the service was first class and the food as well first class will be back 😁
D. L.
Highly recommended whether your stopping for scone & coffee a light lunch or full meal this is an amazing place - scenery stunning over the pentland hills and over the stunning city of Edinburgh prices are excellent and lots of parking there is disabled parking at the door and a lift to restaurant
J. W.
Really nice dinner with friends from work
Food amazing as were the staff
K. L.
Great staff, menu and scenery.
A. L.
Busy lunchtime but relaxed atmosphere prompt service and nice dishes.
D. D.
Super wee restaurant with excellent vied and outside terrace. Staff are all charming. Prices reasonable. Contrary to appearances, it's not a golf club venue, though is right next door. Should be much busier than it is.
L. C.
Friendly staff, fast service, great coffee. Excellent customer service. Will be back soon
J. C.
Very nice and friendly staff. A very good and reasonable menu range.
C. S.
Having a change if heart regarding my original star rating....returned on mother's Day ....to find myself very disappointed with the food, service and general lack of attention to ourselves, having to ask for drinks, menu etc and the cleanliness of restaurant....tables not cleared.
J. M.
Really enjoyed a visit for coffee & cake. Hope we can return soon to have a meal.
A. S.
Excellent venue, with very polite efficient staff. Food was excellent but wine prices are a bit naughty. Excellent views.
S. F.
Lovely scone and hot coffee after 9 holes on the wee course. (Good choice of scones, and good coffee). Nice atmosphere in the clubhouse and friendly staff. Now open longer hours at the weekend though only open daytimes during the week.
H. M.
Lovely coffee and cakes. Great service.
a. w.
Beautiful views over Edinburgh and down the east coast.
R. Y.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and service was great.
M. M.
Enjoyed our brunch this morning, lovely staff
M. C.
Invited to Swanston by my brother and his wife who live in Edinburgh. Superb venue with skilled staff and excellent food. I recommend the Goat's Cheese Salad. Added to all that - views were terrific and short walk to Swanston Village well worth doing for the tranquility of a hidden gem.
s. t.
What a friendly environment.... I felt like we had discovered a hidden gem..Will definitely return
D. C.
Swanston Brasserie is in a lovely setting with absolutely amazing views. It feels like you're in the middle of the countryside but it's not actually far at all from the city centre. It's an oasis in Edinburgh and a bit of a hidden gem. They have a fairly large restrurant inside and also a well sized terrace outdoor space at both the front and the side of the building, on the first floor. The food menu is simple but everything served is high quality. The eggs they serve actually originate from the adjacent farm (Swanston Farm) and there's an obvious emphasis on serving fresh, local produce, which is really commendable. The decor/design of the resturant is quite simple and ordinary, but it's a very clean and pleasant space. It's a great choice for a relaxing lunch or afternoon tea / wine with friends. I will definitely return again.
P. W.
We were an hour late because of an accident on the bypass. We phoned to confirm we would still arrive. They were extremely considerate and when we arrived they showed us to a table right away. Service excellent and fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding exceptional couldn't rate them highly enough.
G. W.
Cheese and chilli scones were amazing. Only beaten by the views
A. S.
Great lunch today, service from Claire was excellent... spaced out tables ... would recommend 😊
A. D.
Went to see the highland coos and got to take several pictures with them then had brunch afterward. We loved the hike, and the hearty breakfast was just what we needed afterward. 10/10 would come back.
J. M.
Lovely food, even better than usual. Excellent service. Beautiful views.
J. K.
Their fish and chips are always good.
T. C.
Charity day food was superb
D. C.
Lovely place with excellent service, great coffee and warm, home-made scones. On a good day, there are excellent views - but on the most recent visit, the cloud level was so low you could hardly see the bottom of the car park!
G. M.
Been there many times ; covid means booking ahead. Guide dogs allowed.Menue is a good choice of British/Scots preferences. (Menue available on-line)Staff excellent.
K. Y.
Service was great and the food was excellent.
M. T.
Been a fair few times now and good experience every time.
Lovely staff and fantastic views.
It doesn't have the most exciting menu in the world but the food is great (in particular, lovely juicy burgers).
A. H.
Lovely homely and relaxing place. My 2 friends and I went here today for lunch as we have done before. My friends had fish pie which contained salmon, prawns, smoked haddock and hake and was covered in flakey pastry. This was served with boiled potatoes and 3 veg. I opted for breaded haddock with chips, garden peas and tartare sauce. All 3 meals were huge and absolutely delicious and £12.95 each. Amazing value. Staff were relaxed, friendly and very helpful as always. Well done chefs and serving staff. Try it you will not be disappointed.
G. N.
A very pleasant restaurant. After a walk around Swanston village and up the hills, my friend and I were in need of a hot cup of coffee. The Brasserie looked maybe a bit posh for us hikers but we felt right at home in this cosy but quite roomy restaurant. Had a very tasty cuppa and cake for a very reasonable price. Staff couldn't have been nicer.
F. P.
Menu divided clearly into sections. eg meats & fish, vegan & vegetarian. Lamb & beef all from Swanston Farm. A great selling point. No long hard journey to your plate!
Selection of bottled lagers & beers very good. Coffee selection excellent. Tea selection also good.
Friendly and patient service enjoyed. Pricing very fair.
C. W.
We were not impressed with the standard of Covid 19 rules applied here. We were so uncomfortable that we had to leave without eating. Very disappointing.
There is only 1 metre social distancing and no screens between tables. The large dining room was crowded and unventilated and we felt very close to the other customers. A room full of chattering maskless diners did not appeal. Clearly more space could have been allowed without reducing the seating capacity as has been done successfully in other places.
S. P.
Been here 3 times now and eaten something different each time. Food is really good. You can have small or regular portions.....great if you're on a diet! A little bit of what you fancy and all that jazz ! Did I tell you about the views? Fantastic ! All the way across the Forth to Fife....good day , of course.
Staff are helpful and the service is good !
You don't even need to play a round of golf to get in....bonus !
J. R.
Had a lovely breakfast here this morning. Asked for poached eggs not fried but was told by the waitress that the chef said they couldn't do poached eggs!! We had scrambled instead, but really poached are so easy.
Best bit was the service by a fabulous new Hungarian waitress. She oozed competence and efficiency.
B. T.
Excellent service and good food
M. K.
This restaurant is situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh and has great views of the city. The staff are friendly and the service was OK. Unfortunately the food was nothing special and the desserts in particular were a big disappointment. Overpriced for what you get.
D. L.
The coffee is good but the veggie burgers are awful...dry and overcooked. The view from the windows is excellent and the service good and a very comfortable dining room. But you must do better with your veggie burgers.
C. M.
Good place for coffee with friends.Usually great scones.
H. D.
Whilst the staff and service were both very good I have to say that, as a regular patron, the food was a REAL let down which is not normally the case.
Both my friend & I elected to have the French Toast with bacon & maple flavoured golden syrup. The French Toast was extremely soggy, and in the middle of the bread it was cold, raw, uncooked egg. The bacon somehow managed to be both burnt on the meat part with floppy uncrisped fat around the edges - quite an achievement really.
Oh and don't expect to be trusted with your own individual portion of maple flavoured golden syrup, in fact there was hardly enough maple syrup on the plate for it to warrant an actual mention
K. W.
First time visit today. Someone recommended it. I can see why.
Very relaxing experience. Beautiful views.
Great food reasonably priced. Only issue for me was the meat in the steak pie could have been more tender.
Sticky toffee pudding almost as good as mine 😉
Will definitely go again 😊
J. A.
Beautiful place, gorgeous setting, amazing food and lovely friendly staff!
M. M.
We had such a great time at the farm seeing the cows, and our lunch here topped the day off wonderfully. Our server lived in Brooklyn for a few years before moving to Edinburgh, so it was fun chatting with her a bit. If we're ever in Edinburgh again we'll be doing exactly the same thing we did on this glorious day.
S. M.
Easy parking, lovely venue, open & spacious. Wonderful views fabby food & friendly service what more could you ask!!
K.
A very fine place to go with a nicely varied menu and delicious food.
G. W.
Great golf course and restaurant... Nice menu and good service. Very scenic and relaxing.
l. b.
Excellent food, with a selection to suit all tastes and fantastic service. Would definitely recommend this place for something to eat
G. M.
Did you say Highland Cows?! If you're just visiting and want to have some up-close time with a furry cow, check this place out. The restaurant had a delicious and affordable walk, and conveniently on the property is a nice trail leading to a pasture with Highland Cows. Great photo opportunity!
J. W.
Beautiful morning able to sit outside for our coffee. Staff very friendly.
B. M.

Always a delight to go here. If I'm out on the pentlents or near the ski centre I make a point of going there. Perfect scones and tea. They do lunch but I haven't had any there.
J. P.
A very nice place to eat, nice open outlook ove the city, the staff are very friendly and efficient in aspects of the restaurant and the food is excellent quality at moderate prices. The only criticism is that the lift was out of order so it ment going up the stairs and down to the toilets. J P 🤔
L. P.
It was my first visit and i was just there for coffee with a friend. It's a lovely light space with a nice atmosphere. Friendly staff and all covid regs in place.
