A must visit Café when walking around Royal Garden. Everything is clean and well organized. Wood architecture matches perfect with stunning garden view. Everyone were really nice and friendly all time, from staffs to customers.

I have been to this place many a times and every time my experience has just been great. The staff are very friendly and when they are busy - they still have the attention to detail service. Decided to stop here for an early lunch as it was chucking it down. The staff were very friendly and made lots of suggestions. The soup was very tasty and the Viennese whirl was delicious. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it is a lovely stop after a morning spent walking around the gardens.

I had a nice visit to the gardens, but felt let down by the Gateway Restaurant. The actual cafe setting is lovely, but the food wasn't great. It was definitely over priced and the service was incredibly slow. It felt as though some of the staff didn't want to actually serve customers the food and it wasn't clear what you could ask for and which sides went with which mains.

Great location overlooking the garden in Gateway Centre upstairs. Service is attentive and there are local and sustainable products in the dishes which are really enjoyable.

Had lunch here today with my husband and two young children. While the staff were very polite they took far too long to take our order and clear our plates. They explained that they had a problem with one of their ovens so the food took a while to arrive. I suppose this isn't their fault but from start to finish we were there for 2 hours and with two young children this is not ideal. They did give us complimentary bread and butter to start. It is over priced too. I ordered mushroom Wellington, it was more of a pasty that arrived. There was no lamb burgers left so husband got beef burger. Both not worth the price. Portions are too small even for a lunch menu. Husband asked for ketchup which never arrived. All in all disappointing, staff are very nice but not organised enough and too forgetful. Heard two other tables complaining while we were there. Maybe a bad day for them with oven troubles but won't be back for lunch. Probably only good for coffee and cake.

The food here is lovely, but I'm not sure it is quite worth the price attached. Perhaps that's because every time I've been here it's been at a slightly peculiar time so I've felt quite rushed by the staff - not quite the end of lunch, not quite the start of afternoon tea. The afternoon tea is excellent, but does get very busy, so you might want to book so as not to be disappointed. The surroundings are very nice, the tables are made of a lovely natural wood, as is the beautiful staircase that sweeps up from the shop below. They have a meal on Hogmanay, which I think would be pretty special.

Carries on the theme of the gardens with every table in a different wood (tree) - the woods not suitable for tables are covered in a coating so the beautiful grain shows through. Food is very high quality, which means small portions. Service pleasant, a bar. Have eaten here a few years ago (last time I came to Edinburgh) and will come back

Nice staff and pleasant surroundings. However, portions are on the small side. If you are really hungry you might want to find a place to eat on the high street in Stockbridge - near the west gate of the gardens.

The service was poor, at times it seemed inattentive and their didn't seem much attention to detail. I don't blame the staff but I do wonder if there is an issue with their training. The toilets are also very poorly maintained.

I was torn between a 3 and a 4. Beautiful restaurant with great views and a nice atmosphere, but staff were very slow and food was average and I would say overpriced. Waiting to be seated and had to ask a bartender to get a waitress to acknowledge us. Only ordered chips and a scone and service was very slow. Waited with empty plates and cups on our table and weren't checked on until we had to wave for attention to get the bill.

Brand new menu so still a bit confusion around because some ingredients weren't available yet but very friendly staff and gluten free and vegan options available. Afternoon tea also available. Clean toilets and wheelchair accessibility with elevator. Main courses are around 10-12 £.

The cesaer salad was with sardines, brand new experience, ok, the chicken was cold. The blueberry tart for dessert was delicious and nicely presented. (Original) Sonntag Mittag war es sehr voll. Als Einzelperson bekam ich erst im zweiten Anlauf einen Tisch, obwohl jeweils was frei war. Freundlicher Service, wirkte aber etwas zu hektisch.
