Reviews of The Huxley
D.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service & great cocktails selection. Including some frozen cocktail options like the Berry Royal I had.
Didn't eat here as was already booked upstairs into excellent Kyloe steak restaurant
H. G. (.
Great service and the food was great. Definitely would come back next time I'm in Edinburgh.
T. L.
Welcomed by Luke and seated straight away even though we were an hour early for our reservation. He then came and found us a while later to say a window seat had become free if we wanted to move (we hadn't asked ) . Food was amazing. Luke also recommended a few drinks and deserts for us . He sadly finished his shift half way through our meal so we couldn't thank him but he truly is a credit to the company. The girl who took over was just as chatty and welcoming. Overall just a lovely relaxed atmosphere with superb food and staff .
B. E.
Service was really welcoming, friendly and the atmosphere was great, having a window seat to gaze at the world whirling by cannot be beat.
The food however needs improving. Perhaps it was an off day that I went, but a few things didn't seem right in regards to how the food was prepared and sent out, although it sounded good on the menu.
L. H.
Best steak that I have had in a long time it was cooked to my liking which is well done. All staff members where lovely and attentive towards me and my family. Great customer focus and we will be back to this
Establishment in the future.
L. R.
Pleasant staff. Nice setting, tasty food. Only down point, lovely lady that served us, asked if we had any allergies or any of that malarkey! We don't, but know many that do and choice of words not very encouraging. Great we were asked, but a but flippant.
A. A.
Nice place in a vibrant area of the city.. breakfast was ok but coffee was amazing
S. R.
Super friendly staff, highly recommended pub, in the center of it all.
C. N.
Really good food! We tried some chicken and it was delicious, great service also! Highly recommended
M. B.
We came across this after a long trip to the zoo on a scorching day. To see a great menu and great prices was perfect. The staff were friendly, the place was lovely set put had a very welcoming rustic kinda feel.
The Katsu chicken burger was huge and very tasty. Also the classic hotdog was a nice change and tasted great so well presented. Definitely recommend 👌
p. b.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good beer.
I recommend going mid week though.
We went in on a Wednesday and the food was amazing we went back in the Thursday and it was a disappointing. There was a small crowd of people possibly on a works do which may have put the kitchen under pressure or maybe there was a different cheff each day but my wife ordered the same dishes both days and on the 2nd day the quality had dropped significantly.
S. D.
Its pretty decent and awesome place. One can sip johny walker and take a tram. Much near to tram station. Breakfast and lunch are reasonable located in heart of edinburgh. Its a best place for people who enjoy wine and dine. It looks more awesome in evenings.
M. W.
Had a lovely breakfast here after trying Loudons but it was reservations only which was surprising for a Tuesday morning. Glad we came to The Huxley as I have been there previously but not of late. Service was friendly and food delicious.
j. s.
The food was amazing, really enjoyed it, I had the burger and I would say was best I'd ever tasted, my friend had the salad (can't mind what one) and said the taste with the dressing was delicious, staff friendly and welcoming, would definitely go back and recommend for nice dinner.
A. H.
Nice "American" ambience! Friendly staff and good place to chill
L. W.
Yuppie prices. Yuppie patrons. Not yuppie quality.
Smashed avocado was puréed/blended and bland. Freshly squeezed orange juice is watered down 50:50 ratio. Nice setting and staff with decent tunes.
£15 for the privilege.
R. C.
Great location, pleasant efficient staff. We were made to feel welcome and accommodated.
Didn't eat so cannot comment.
D. S.
Very good breakfast and the service is also excellent!
The Avocado was just right , amazing.
The green smoothie was one of the best one I ever had, so delicious!
If you also want to have a view of the castle make sure to make a reservation!
Would come there again for breakfast!
E. G.
Beautiful food couldn't fault it had Mexican chips & hot wings shared with my husband as we were having dinner later that evening, bit pricey but worth it very big portions & great spot to people watch at window seat.
A. C.
Nicely stiled little pub near the city centre, in Rutland Place, near The Caledonian. This is actually the ground floor pub, on the first floor there is another restaurant.
There's a good selection of food, fish in particular. Very attractive "Filthy Grills" from the menu. I've opted for a classic Fish and Chips, which didn't disappoint at all (look at the size of it!). My girlfriend chose the mixed fish grill "share plate" (even tho she didn't share), which was (I'm told) very good!
M. T.
Nice up market bar, expensive but the red wine we ordered was worth it. Let down by switching on the TV for the football, cue loud shouting and a dramatic drop in the ambiance.
K. S.
Fantastic breakfast with equally as good of service from Natalie! The bar staff was also friendly and helpful. The breakfast I had which consisted on Pancakes, bacon, and fruit compote and a double shot of espresso was delicious! Also was a great place to work from my laptop with several tables near outlets and several free WiFi options. Highly recommend!
M. M.
This was a friendly open bar and eaterie on the ground floor of the Rutland hotel. The menu has a good variety of options and less expensive than the opulent Kyloe upstairs. Well stocked bar for cocktails and nice bright interiors. Good for solo diners, couples and small groups. Situated at the end of Princes Street in Shandwick place
M. O.
We took breakfast there and the waiters and waitress were very helpful although it was a rather late morning.food was well prepared especially the avocado toasts. Coffee was normal but the red Teh their served was great.
M. M.
Went to the Huxley prior to going upstairs to Kyloes for Dinner the service was superb 👌 also looked at the Menu and intend going back at some point in the near future for more drinks and a meal. It is very comfortable with a very relaxing atmosphere would highly recommend
E. H.
Nice surroundings in the heart of the city Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Reasonable although not large menu. Wonderful mac and cheese!
A. M.
Staff went out of their way to accommodate our urban sketching group after I phoned to make a reservation. We had a good table with views of of the windows, and when extra people turned up, more tables and chairs were added. The menu was straightforward and I enjoyed my halloumi fries and root vegetable crisps. Service was friendly and efficient.
j. w.
Lovely stylish place, food top quality, and Deserts to die for.

Lovely venue, pleasant experience and welcoming staff.

Not the perfect visit but the food was amazing.
Visited today in a group of 4 for brunch and a few different things went wrong. This of course can be frustrating however in the grand scheme of what's going on in the world I don't think it's something to get upset about.
However the manager understood d was great.
Why am I still giving 5 stars. Well the food was as fresh as any place I have been. The quality was amazing and the haggis and black pudding was probably the best I have ever tried. If you have never tried haggis then this is definitely the place to try it.
If you are looking for a warm, comfortable place to stop while out in the city centre then this is definitely a great stop.
A. S.
Full breakfast was fantastic. Just what was needed after a night out!
A. M.

Excellent food, nice and funny people. We surely come back!
Thank you!

A very welcoming place the staff are very attentive and the food very good well worth visiting.
A. W.
Always nice to be recognised a year after visiting. Thanks to the fabulous, friendly staff for always making the helicopter people feel so welcome ;-) see you soon
B. w.
Table service had large gaps in it, it's not a big venue and seems to be plenty staff on hand, but long wait for service, drinks order forgotten,etc...and 10% service charge added to ur bill,so regardless of ur level of service u will tip them....
D. D.
Could be a great bar, but too controlled wuth people telling you where to sit and reserving tables.. Annoying... But great for sport as screens in every corner
M. R.
Cute and relaxing place to have a quick bite. We stopped in after a long day. They had a table for five quickly available. The menu had good selections for adults and kids. Our kids are Mac and cheese and hot dogs. We ate the fish plate and a cheese plate.
Space - plenty of tables and room for families
Prices - fair
Staff - friendly
Food - good selection
The best part about this place is the tables. Some of them are couches in cubbies by the windows.
W. F.
Beautiful inside. Delicious food. Big portions. Beautiful location. Guaranteed a lovely visit.
S. L.
Only there for drinks, didn't try the food hence the 4 stars, but the staff were great, very attentive.
B. C.
Excellent friendly service and very good, we both had burgers they were very tasty 😋
Z. P.
I read in a book that The Huxley serves the best burger in Scotland. As an American tourist, I felt I needed to find out for myself. I was not disappointed. The staff was also very courteous and helpful.
H. W.
Great Breakfast! I really enjoyed it and the coffee was good too. Its in a grest location in the heart of the West End. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was service was quite slow and some of the furniture was looking quite tatty/tired. Other than that would really recommend as food is clearly freshly prepared.
E. R.
Breakfast here was great - it certainly helped that the weather was amazing for sitting next to the window and admiring the castle + local buildings. If the weather is nice, certainly ask for a table next to the window.
Breakfast was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Can’t really beat the location either.
S. K.
Not many options for vegetarian even if eat egg! If you are a bit spice loving person this is not the place and cuisine for you to have in breakfast. Ordered the poached eggs with avocado toast
L. L.
Cleanliness average, had to request our table to be wiped down as they seated us at a table that wasn't clean yet. They did however apologise this.
Can't fault food or drinks, they were outstanding. Service was good ensured we had plenty of water and other drinks.
C. G.
The food was good and the view from the area we were seated at was beautiful. Wish I had the mindset to take a picture at the time. But I got a shot of my apple juice, which was also delicious.
J. L.
Superb full scotish breakfast!
G. J.
Relaxed lovely place to dine and watch the world go by, great food and service
H. S. (.
The Huxley staff should be running the Waldorf next door. Friendly competent and on their game. Attentive and knowledgeable with great drink recommendations and top notch bar fare. I’ll stop in here just to people watch and have a pint and dram next time I am in Edinburgh.
P. A.
Excellent, attentive, fast service, good priced food and drink. Had a classic burger, with a side of garlic mushrooms and both were very tasty. Recommend eating here, would go back for sure. Very friendly staff.
J. F.
So, we had a table booked outside but weather wasn't great, the team did absolutely everything to get us inside and there were 9 of us, busy Saturday in the City!! We had the best seats looking up at the castle. The atmosphere (rugby on screens) the food and service was absolutely amazing.
Thank you so much for going that extra mile. We really appreciated it. X
S. #.
Found the staff top notch. Very accommodating and attentive. Food was tasty and we'll presented.
A. T.
The staff/service/atmosphere was fantastic. I must admit I was slightly apprehensive after so long but there was no need to be. Everything was great from when we entered to give our details to when we sat down, had a lovely 2 hours and left. Thanks to all the staff on last night for making it an enjoyable evening with absolutely no problems at all.
S. W.
Amazing food and staff were very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back
H. T.
Good fresh food and friendly staff. Also cater for gluten free.
D. G.
Great food the specials were exactly that special,I loved the po boy I had the staff were very efficient and friendly the atmosphere in these dark times was electric a really enjoyed my time there.

A very welcoming place the staff are very attentive and the food very good well worth visiting.
j. w.
Lovely stylish place, food top quality, and Deserts to die for.
M. B.
The location and interiors are lovely, came in for a quick drink before exploring the city. The prices are very reasonable but unfortunately they did not have smoothies or milkshakes when I went which I was really looking forward too
M. G.
Really great experience. Went for drinks, the waiters were really kind giving us a detailed summary of the nice beers on offer and recommendations for the rest of the stay. Great atmosphere as well!
A. S.
Full breakfast was fantastic. Just what was needed after a night out!
K. N.
Highlanderburger the best Burger!
Friendly and cosy and great food&drinks😁👌
S. K.
Went here when we were in Edinburgh Saturday evening (wish we were back there) and thoroughly enjoyed the evening! Really good evening and enjoyed the atmosphere, great cocktails 🍸, great food 🍔 staff were great really friendly! Can't ask for anymore! Highly recommended and would love to return here when we next come back to Edinburgh!
M. J.
Good cocktails, a little expensive. Staff was very courteous.
M.
Food excellent. Young waiter was fantastic & attentive

Ordered a curry nice and hot and spicy chapatis and it was Delicious 👌

Lovely setting and decor. Great location. Food was very good, especially burgers and desert. Service friendly and efficient. Tasty cocktails. Good value

Lovely place.... brilliant burgers, a must if you visit Edinburgh
A. B.
Another little gem we found by chance on a recent trip to Edinburgh. A relaxed and cosy atmosphere coupled with friendly staff and a brilliant cocktail menu.
P. B.
Very lovely staff and perfect medium rare steaks
H. M.
Great service...perfect Gins...and a smashing spot for People Watching
K. N.
Lovely venue, pleasant experience and welcoming staff.
I. H.
Lovely staff, drink very expensive compared to other pubs nearby.
P. H.
Amazing service, superb steak...just fab 😁
S. B.
Had drinks with friends - lovely location - ideal spot to meet
K. S.
Very nice place. Good food and lovely staff.
P. C.
Food + wine lovely. Service really good. And most of all felt relaxed as regards Covid-19 because staff wore masks, took our temperatures, and we were very 'socially distanced' from other tables. A very enjoyable outing.
J. M.
Very nice and friendly staff, a bit expensive.
K. H.
Went for a drink, very pleasant staff
L. R.
Lovely place great service lovely atmosphere
D. S.
Loved this place! My partner gave this 'best fish and chips ever' status. Friendly staff and lovely environment. Would recommend!
c. P.
Ohh brought back old memories being back here. It didn't disappoint.
J. M.
First class from the Huxley and staff. Safe, friendly and both food and service excellent. First time in Edinburgh or eating out for nine months. Even with all restrictions in place, very enjoyable.
T. M.
Absolutely gorgeous bar. Attentive and friendly bar staff. Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
S. K.
Amazing Sunday Brunch. The freshly squeezed orange juice is great for a sleepy head
B.
Just looking to this restaurant and had one of the most amazing brunches in my life ever!
.
we opted for the veg brunch menu on a Sunday morning with some hot cappuccino and hot chocolate, can never forget that amazing food taste and the awesome view from this restaurant.
.
The place amazingly managed with good interiors and everything is very well managed with some good and helpful staff.
.
One humble request to the management here, that the food served on on Sunday brunch was beautifully presented, where, same food served 2 days apart lacked presentation & taste.
.
Surely can go back here another vacations.!
D.
We went here for breakfast and both the service and food was great. They have unique breakfast combinations and quality ingredients. If you like sweet breakfast I would recommend the creme brulee french toast. It is unlike any french toast you ever had before it is a bit small so I would maybe order something with it. Overall great place for brunch.
S. S.
Great location and ambiance inside with the large windows with a view of Princes Street. We had brunch here and the full Scottish was very good. The coffee was the highlight though, the flat white I had was perfect. Friendly and quick service too.
S. H.
This bar/restaurant was attached to our hotel. We had breakfast here one morning during our stay and drinks one evening after dinner. It was a great spot to sit by the window and watch the world go by. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The decor was stylish and there was a good atmosphere about the place. We enjoyed both the food and drinks here when we visited.
N.
Loved the look of breakfast menu, all the offerings sounded really nice and the rather large tea pot had me all excited for a relaxed morning. Alas the tea was rather weak as for the size pot just one tea bag simply wasn't sufficient. And the "scones" we were presented with turned out to be overbaked brioche, not at all the same thing. So unfortunately I have to say while appearance and ambience of the menu and place look very favourable, we were left feeling rather disappointed in the end.
F. C.
Lovely afternoon with cocktails and food
G. K.
Great restaurant. Enjoy live music, drinks and great food.
If you are looking for a steak then it is must destination. They are very professional and good thing is that they explain the food and it's differentiation in detail.
The prices are little higher but worth spending.
R. J.
The best pancakes I have ever had in Edinburgh! Definitely coming back :)
M. M.
Lovely place to stop for drinks and food... the staff were attentive and friendly, nice atmosphere, definitely recommend and will definitely return
I. J.
For brunch, it’s a nice place to go with large bright windows and comfortable lounge chairs.
The service was a bit off. They explained that some people were late, which caused some staff like the receptionist to take over serving duties they don’t normally do.
The Royale eggs dish with smoked salmon was very nicely done. The yolk was perfectly cooked just so that it was creamy. The only complaint is that it had no side dish with it, not even a bit of greens. No side dishes are even offered to order to go with it.
M. R.
Good food but slow service staff did try tho
K. M.
The Huxley is amazing. I would recommend making a reservation as it is a hotel restaurant and quite busy. We happened to walk in at the perfect moment to be able to get a table without reservation. If you are a vegan, I would recommend going elsewhere as the...atmosphere might make you uncomfortable as the menus are made of what I believe to be cow hide/fur; also, the first thing you see when you walk up the stairs is a curing/drying freezer with raw beef in it. I do believe they offer a few things that might be vegan or vegetarian, but this is definitely a meat-lover's kind of place. The steaks were amazing and the portions were extremely filling. All I have yo say is just go there and enjoy for all it is worth. I know the steak I had was local, and it was absolutely delicious.
B. W.
Fun pub for the rugby in a very convenient location.
R. M.
Got are drinks ok and every so often they would ask if we wanted another after a while we asked for the cocktail menu and we got one but the waiters kept going past our table so we moved our empty glasses to the edge of the table and after 25 minutes all together I managed to get a waiter and just asked for the bill and left,
W. C.
We found this great restaurant just walking around, and I am so thankful we did. I have celiac and this place was extremely accommodating. I had a burger, and it was by far the best burger I had in the UK. They even had a couple gluten free beers to choose from! The restrooms are nice and clean. Also, the style of The Huxley is great...we loved the environment.
J. G.
Really good food can't fault. Just felt staff were trying to rush us from the table. Gave us our bill before deserts came out. Was very busy due to the rugby but they allowed people who were in drinking at the bar stand around our table while eating, only complaint. Slightly pricey but good food.
E. K.
Had a fab evening, the food was first class, we enjoyed every morsel. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
L. C.
Here for a family lunch on a Saturday with our relatives visiting from the US. The very professional staff managed to accommodate us even without booking. I had the avocado wrap which was delicious. Everyone was very impressed with the quality of food and drinks. Highly recommended
S. C.
Really friendly and well trained staff
D. H.
Pleasant place for a wee tipple. Friendly staff.
J. A.
Stayed for a couple of nights. Staff were very helpful. As we arrived in Edinburgh earlier than anticipated we left our luggage at the hotel until we had had lunch and the room was ready. On our return we found our luggage had been delivered to the room.
We also managed to lock ourselves out of the room safe and again staff were very prompt in dealing with the issue.
Lovely large room with views down Princes Street (Room 4)
D. J.
We are guests of the hotel and came here first night for drinks before dinner. Very friendly staff and nice bar atmosphere. Lovely windows to the street for people watching. Limited printed cocktail menu. Of course many choices for whiskey and beer. Limited wine list. Breakfast menu had variety of choices and pricing seemed alright for UK which is expensive anyway. Dining room upstairs superb.
C. F.
Pleasant atmosphere. Fairly busy, although at this time of year I'd expect so. We only ordered a coffee, there are a few "festive season " menu for coffees, with added liquor. Sounded lovely, however with an afternoon of shopping ahead I didn't try one.
Friendly staff and helpful. Prices are very reasonable, comparing a coffee from the large chain coffee branches it was cheaper and to be honest just more civilised.
Clean and tidy with festive decorations to make it that little bit more inviting and comfortable looking. There's several seating areas by the windows, with the premises being on a corner, they have made good use of the space.
Despite a short wait, a little longer than anticipated, for two coffees. An apology was given. However, the lunch menu was going to be starting shortly. So I think it was perhaps bad timing on our part.
The toilets facilities were of a high standard. I'd most certainly recommend coming here. I personally wouldn't have thought to go to the Huxley just for a coffee, although it was a great idea. Something different and I'd return again, maybe order food the next time. Although, it is perfectly acceptable to just order a coffee. Enjoy!
M. U.
Great food and good service.
R. D.
We had an evening meal here and returned for breakfast on a couple of occasions. Overall the food was very good and the prices are very reasonable. The Huxley is in a great location and that is possibly part of the problem as they are never short of customers. The downside is the level of service provided by the waiting staff. We had several issues of drinks etc not being brought to the table having being ordered or the wrong food being brought out to us. The staff were constantly too busy and several of them simply not that interested.
P. R.
Lovely place to go for a drink in Edinburgh!
M. S.
Amazing atmosphere great cocktails and bar food 👌
M.
The bar is tremendous, great for a stop on the way to your gin tour or wherever you may be going. Top spot for Edinburgh rugby! Mick was a great guy, server here, gave is great recommendations and super friendly. Best Scot I've met.
C. T.
Lovely, accommodating staff. We arrived for breakfast and the poached eggs were lovely. The wider menu looked great with a selection of light bites and meal. Wish we'd stopped here sooner in our holiday!
B. M.
Great burgers! Amazing and trendy atmosphere! Theres an upscale steakhouse on top but I would not have traded the downstairs bar/burger menu for that! Lots of mismatched lounge like furniture. Great place to watch the game, to stop in for a quick burger or to hang out and sit for food and drinks for a while! Highly recommend this place!
R. W. M.
Delicious food and lovely drinks, perfectly situated in the centre close to alot of shops and opposite Johnnie walker
R. O.
My friend and I had lunch at the Huxley, we both took the salmon salad, it was a bit too spicy but very nice. Not a boring salad.
As a dessert, we both took the sticky toffee pudding but it was a bit too dry and not very tasteful, luckily there was lots of warm toffee to put on top of it.
Overall we enjoyed it, not sure I'll get back
S. G.
Delicious cappuccino, great breakfast, and good service. Can't ask for anything more!
j. s.
Very high quality of food. Excellent waitress 'Ewelina' , very friendly and polite. Highly recommend A+++++
S. A.
Kyloe restaurant Chateaubriand was fantastic cooked to perfection. Service could have been a lot better
A. K.
Lovely bar...relaxed atmosphere where you can have a delicious breakfast, meal or just a drink. Good value for money and friendly staff. Handy location to Princes Street....we visited 3 times during our weekend break!
i. c.
Lovely bar, great service
S. M.
Chateaubriand to share - simple but incredible.
B. D.
Lovely food here, have visited for brunch a few times now and keep returning! Staff are friendly and the service is good however can be a little slow for your food to arrive. Apart from that it is a nice place to grab a bite and socialise.
R. C.
Good place for a breakfast meeting, open environment that also has a few quiet booths if you need some privacy. Staff are attentive, food is good. Some dishes better than others so you might need a bit of trial and error. Would definitely go back.
C. C.
Nice place for drinks. You can relax with cosy atmosphere while watching the rush of outside
M. B.
It's basically the ideal place for a first date. Go for drinks on a week day evening - easy enough to get a table. Music is great, atmosphere is great. Good selection of drinks. Good table service.
Update: I went back for food. Chips were great (except the portion). Burger was a bit bland.
C. W.
Cosy atmosphere, very friendly staff with good hygiene measures! I was impressed with the QR scanning which you use to download the menu and choose your order. Instead of handling a menu. Try the Haggis bon bons!
J. P.
Delicious food and drink, great atmosphere and staff. Would highly recommend. Such a great location as well 👌
H. D. K.
There are a few good placed tables that has amazing view of the castle and the nearby church. I totally recommend to look for then if you are going there. The stuff was very friendly and professional. Although, prices are normal, the food was not satisfactory. We tried 3-4 different appetizers and also got the burger and the hot dog. Unfortunately, all of them were disappointing. I would recommend staying at Huxley for a drink and going upstairs to Kyloe for food. Even though it's pricey, it's totally worth it. The difference is huge.
M. J.
Really great food and service. I would definitely recommend the full Scottish breakfast and the fish and chips. The portion of chips was quite small but the staff were very apologetic and happily gave us more for free.
K. W.
Great place for lunch. Informal setting, good food and service.
A. B.
We were disappointed with the food and service. All the staff serving and waiting were all not professional or the type you would expect in a venue like this. Who serves marmalade with a cream tea? And with no cream. We asked for the marmalade to be changed to jam and some cream to be provided. It turned into a bigger issue than it needed to be.
F. M.
amazing food and friendly helpful staff :)
A. M.
Great food, fab atmosphere staff very helpful.
L. T.
Excellent location, fab cocktails, good food, affordable. Lovely staff with table service available. Good environment with modern decor, sports on tv (discreetly), great loo facilities. Best bar for people watching and chilling at the weekend. Would recommend.

I'd previously read a review about how a blind customer was turned away because he wasn't allowed to bring his guide dog into the restaurant and wasn't sure what to expect from their customer service. On a recent visit for a friend's birthday, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and the beautifully decorated bar. There are a range of spirits and cocktails available on the menu at reasonable prices for the centre of town. Their stock of various liquor should also be commended.
S. M.
Amazing gin drinks! Good place to try the distillery gin if you can't get in for a tour
P. A.
Good service and friendly. Pepper sauce that came with the steak was a bit weak and not much taste
A. R.
Downstairs is a great place to relax, with comfy chairs (not slouchy sofas) and incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. The place has a good vibe to it and is welcoming to children.
Bar food was good simple food with more restaurant choices available upstairs. Ice cream was excellent!!
R.
We'd booked to go before a Six Nations game at Murrayfield, and it was brilliant. Great portions of food, decently priced, and the Buck's Fizz/Bloody Mary's were a great addition to our meal! Brilliant location for walking or getting bus/tram along to the stadium after.
S. C.
Nice bar - always seems to be busy for breakfast in the morning with hotel guests, and for drinks after work. Prices are on the higher side but its a pleasant bar in a good location. Food choices are things like burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and smaller plates. There's also a tasty cocktail menu to work your way through.
B. A.
We had a very relaxing Sunday afternoon with wine and good music.
M. H.
Ok, so one time I was served an espresso martini unstrained from the cocktail shaker, but I'm going to forgive that. Overall, I really dig this place. The interior is a great balance of comfort and style. Table service for drinks is like winning the jackpot. Prices are reasonable for location/ambience/ease. And I always feel welcome. Which is why I keep coming back.
R. B.
Excellent service throughout our visit. A very nice comfortable, relaxing atmosphere in all respects and the food and drinks were great. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would without a doubt return.
C. C.
Reanna was wonderful serving us. We just stopped in after storming Edinburgh Castle. We just wanted to get out of the rain and ended up spending the afternoon. It's a great place for food, drinks, & fun.
R. S.
Friendly service with good opening hours, central location and the best egg benedict I had
D. M.
Went here early in the morning for breakfast as every other time at the weekend this place is packed out with shoppers / tourists.
Had a lovely relaxing breakfast sitting at the massive bay windows with possibly some of the best views of Edinburgh Castle that is on offer in the City.
There was a lot of choices on offer and the kipper that I had was delicious and plentiful, actually ate too much as didn't think the portion would be that big.
Service was good but perhaps a little expensive but you're willing to pay that for the location and views. Great place for breakfast if your in the City Centre in the morning.
Great place for drinks on a Friday night after work as the place is buzzing. Usually pretty busy though so be prepared to stand or else book ahead.
a.
One of ny favorite place in Edinburgh. Freshly and tasty food in a great atmosphere. All the waitress are helpfull and very friendly. You can enjoy this place all day long. Live music at night combined with cocktails. The location is perfect!
R. S.
Nice relaxing drink on a Friday night here.
M. J.
Arguably the best place for breakfast in Edinburgh. The staff are friendly and welcoming and it's a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. It's a good spot for lunch/dinner too. As for the cost, it's very reasonable and you get excellent value for money at The Huxley.
TIP: Pancakes and bacon with maple syrup will blow you away! Also try and book a table if you can, sometimes it's busy..
m. g.
Service was great, staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for you.
K. T.
Such lovely staff and a great atmosphere. Watch out the cocktails are strong!
E. T.
The soft shell crab burger is gorgeous here! The decor is lovely and you can see out into the city centre. Bottles of prosecco are £15 all week and the staff are sweet and funny. My go-to bar in town.
C. S.
Amazing. , Food , staff . Couldn't do enough for you. Be back soon
F. M.
Great location. Staff super friendly. Best thing about this hotel, in my opinion, is the food!
I have been visiting The Rutland's restaurant "Kyloe" for a few years now and every time I'm blown away by the simple touches that make the dining experience just so comfortable whilst still remaining top notch.
I recently visited for their Sunday Lunch, amazing value for money as well as being out of this world delicious. I hope they never stop this!
Also visited for Christmas dinner with a large group of friends, service amazing and everyone left happily well fed. Loved.
S. D.
Had a bottle of bubbles before heading upstairs for food. It was beautiful, the best way to end off a great holiday. Amazing atmosphere and a beautiful view. If you're in Edinburgh you have to call in and check it out.
D. S.
This is my new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh - it's great for meeting for lunch and fantastic for drinks. Here's what I love about it:
* The £15 bottles of Prosecco all day every day
* The pulled pork sandwiches
* The hot dogs!
* The cocktails
* The comfortable seats
It's never too crowded, always friendly and the service is great. I love the Huxley!
M. P.
Food excellent, service good. Overpriced drinks.....£10 for a 250ml glass of sauvignon is terrible. Could have had 2/3 bottles across the road in Sainsbury's for price of 2 glasses.
D. S.
Spacious bar with attentive, friendly staff. Good service with a reasonable selection of beers. Well priced good food too!
K. R.
Lovely staff but the bar is a tad pricey for main road seating area
T. E.
Always love to visit the Huxley when we are in Edinburgh. Fun and friendly atmosphere. Didnt stop for food this time, but have eaten there on several occasions, and it's been excellent. Many thanks.
B. S.
Went in for a drink, warm welcome & service, advice given on some shot drinks I enquired of & swift service too. Comfy area with nice music playing up n background! Average budget drinks, nice place
G. W.
Good location just a shame the beer garden wasn't around the other side facing the castle.
L. T.
Relaxed atmosphere, great food and excellent service, what more do you want?!
B. B.
Beautiful relaxed atmosphere and super comfy seats also love the crockery. very chill during the day and for coffee in the afternoon. Gets busier later for a nice bar experience.
T. S.
All good staff were friendly and attentive.
M. G.
Had a very relaxed couple of hours here enjoying a couple of drinks. Staff very friendly and helpful.
M. M.
I've been to The Huxley a few times and it is fairly average really. Nice surroundings and good beer, but the food can be very salty. The hotdogs are the shining light and I regret not getting one yesterday, I went for a a burger and it was very greasy.
The staff are always great and it's a good location, but it just misses a four star review due to the average food.
C. D.
Stopped in for breakfast. Loads of options, my poached eggs were really amazing. Awesome pot of tea and friendly efficient staff. Definitely recommended.
C. C.
Amazing food, great service and fab atmosphere! Thank you!
J. L.
Excellent Covid system with speedy and professional service outside.
Gas heaters warmed us up too.
R. D.
Excellent food, great service, good beer.
P. M.
What's not to like gin and tonic on a sunny afternoon, great location helpful staff.
R. O.
Great cappuccino and coffee served here. The Eggs Benedict was the best I had all week. This also offer a wonderful place for people watching while visiting Edinburgh.
M. v.
nice cocktail menu, for all tastes. beautiful decor and attentive staff. The food menu is very basic, but it means quick service and just nice straight to the point food. reasonable and affordable prices too.
M. T.
Nice brunch in a well organised restaurant, staff attentive and food quality good
T. Å.
Amazing service, it's what you would expect for the price you pay. Food was excellent - the sides were well worth ordering. We'll be going back!
J. G.
A little on the cosy side on a busy Saturday but the staff were fast, efficient and friendly.
J. S.
Great wee place food and drinks excellent service exactly what you would expect, try it out, you won't be disappointed.
M. R.
Delicious Haggis, the whisky sauce was worth bathing in!!! Fast, friendly staff, good prices and an awesome selection of brews.
B. v. d. V.
We sat down as a group of five having a nice atmosphere for taking your time to eat with the live music and nice decor.
I ordered ribs and cheese&jalapeno chips. The ribs were absolutely littered with onions and sauce being buried like my old man Steve. The ribs were Ok even though they had to be dug up by archeologists.
The chips were as described in the menu; cheese , jalapeno and chips. No seasoning just straight up chips, cheese and jalapeno. Might aswell go to a grocery store and get the individual ingredients to make the exact same thing in 1 minute.
The only redeeming factor of the whole ordeal was the cocktail I got called; "Smack that peach" or "Peaches be Smacked" idk. It was a great cocktail ordering 3 more immediately after.
If you're there for a drink you'll be right at home but be careful if you're there to eat because certain dishes are not good (for example mine).
Cheers.
G. G.
Great steak place
A. Y.
Service great, but breakfast very pricy for very ordinary food.
R. H. C.
A fantastic hotel, full of energy! The team behind the Huxley are attentive and very friendly. A great place to stay, have lunch or just a beer. Will be back soon!
R. G.
Good food and drink, service was poor. Would recommend
E. C.
We had a very nice dinner here. As an American it is a little difficult to get used to the slower pace of a restaurant in Europe but in truth it is a nice change.
C. M.
Lovely place to have a chilled out breakfast. Great service, delicious food! Thoroughly enjoyed x
E. C.
Amazing cocktails, great atmosphere, and friendly service!
M. W.
Had breakfast in here while watching the rugby world cup final and despite the result had a good experience. Good selection of breakfast food and drink, friendly staff and good atmosphere.
R. A.
Smart, if expensive, bar in central Edinburgh.
Good selection of local ales and attentive service.
I did not try then but there were some nice snacks on the menu.
S. E.
Nice atmosphere, cosy at night. Nice live music when we visited and a good variety of drink choices. The snack we ordered was delicious.
P. M.
Lovely atmosphere staff are nice and the alcohol is cold and wet. Perfect x
A. A.
The food was good but the service was lacking. It was like we were in a forgotten area. Each time the server came to us she was apologetic. We had to search her out for more drinks, dessert, and the check.
C. R.
Great drinks and friendly staff. Defo reccommend
m. s.
This is a good place to come for drinks. They forgot to bring me my coffee, but as soon as I mentioned it to them they were very apologetic and brought me a free one immediately. Very good service.
R. D.
I'd just gone into The Huxley to meet a friend for a lunchtime drink. The surroundings are really nice and whilst there is background music it isn't overpowering to the extent that you can't chat. However, the staff are really pushy asking if you want to order food, I was probably asked four times in the half hour we were in there.
E. O.
Fantastic cocktails there
F. H.
Great place to enjoy a night out, great food and drinks are not to expensive
A. J.
Excellent lunch at Huxley's; dinner at Kyloe!
R. B.
Good location. Nice places to sit. Service can be slow when they are busy. Food looked good though we didn't eat.
H. f.
Recommend the huxley swizzle cocktail!nice chilled place for a cocktail or 2.
J. S.
We have enjoyed multiple meals at The Huxley, taking three different sets of guests here for breakfast and lunch. The staff is helpful and friendly making a visit enjoyable.
J. R.
Great bar, lovely interior and vibe. Would make cocktails that weren't on the menu and was priced very reasonably for such a major location.
s. l.
A hot dog walks into a bar. The bartender stops him as he's walking in.
The hot dog asks why? The bartender says "we don't serve food here".
But they do at The Huxley! They serve food and hot dogs! Oh yes! They do prosecco or Pacifico and hot dog with french fries, which sells for £10. Good deal, either for a pre-session stomach lining or post work dinner. I think it'll do well!
I like what Huxley have done to the place, nice big open space, bright (helped by the evening sunset), contemporary neutral colours with a splash of lime green, funky anglepoise ceiling light fitting and huge windows - great for people watching.
The toilets were quite amusing, the hand wash trough is shared by both male and female toilets. Although a wall separates the rooms, there is a small gap under the sink, so you can wave to one another - sort of! Only thing is, you can hear everything said and err... done in each others sanitary rooms. So no longer can you visit the loos for a 'private' chat about that hot guy you just saw at the bar! You don't know who will be listening!?
My prosecco and BLT hot dog was delish' and not as messy as I'd imagined! The tomatoes on my HD were grilled, bringing out the sweetness and fries were nicely salted. I was pleasantly full, a great way to celebrate an evening.
L. S.
Nice cosy place, yummy food at good prices, nice staff and nice chilled vibe. Doesn't feel pubby and not tacky or loud for a city centre pub/restaurant. Ate during the day
H. D.
A nice atmosphere and good selection of drinks. Nice brunch and friendly staff :)
L. G.
Nice place. Just went there to have one drink with wife but spend a nice time. Nice place and drinks were excellent! Recommended

A. S.
Great food & great service at Kyloe - I'd definitely recommend a visit
N. S.
Lovely place and good service. Would have been 5 stars but they didn't know about the Gin festival promotion there were apart of.
J. S.

Went for a drink early on Hogmannay Eve. Reasonably priced drinks, get service. Glass collectors working at busy times. Impressively decorated.
Z. P.
Following its refurb (from when it was the slightly down-at-the-hell The Rutland), The Huxley is a bustling bar that sees it packed on a Friday night. The cocktail menu is fun with names like The Grape Gatsby (which is a very strong martini) and they do table service as well so if you have a table you can totally chill out for the evening.
A. A.
Excellent service, good food and selection of drinks, overall a pleasant place
H. A.
Great food and drinks . staff are very friendly
