Quite a small space, perhaps a little cramped - some staff and patrons really had to squeeze around each other. However I found it very cosy and friendly - the staff are most welcoming and very quick and efficient. The three course menu is good value, but the choice is quite limited - as you'd expect with a small place - the starters and dessert are good quality but not very exciting, however the burger I had was excellent, very well cooked with great bacon and cheese topping. This is an ideal place for meat lovers (they specialise in steak and burgers) looking for something quick, reasonably priced and with some very interesting steak sauce specials (pineapple teri yaki anyone?).

Apart from a candle setting a colleagues hair on fire and no real compensation for her I. E. Her meal on the house or a free drink we all had a good night. This is one of the smallest restaurants in Edinburgh so booking is mostly essential at weekends. There is a spiral staircase up to the restaurant and toilets are then downstairs, so no good for elderly or those with mobility issues. The BYOB policy is great.

A quirky cozy restaurant that has 2 sitting times. Good for groups up to approx 25. Food is homely & pleasantly tasty.

Food was great, lucky to get a seat. Seems like somewhere that might have lots of big bookings. The food was fantastic. Only one toilet, lock was gubbed.
Good atmosphere in restaurant, we were in next to a big birthday group and it lead to a loud happy atmosphere.
It is bring your own booze, so prepare before going in.

A genuinely intriguing local spot and well worth a visit if you like your burgers. I stumbled upon this hidden gem whilst looking at places that do BYOB and figured it was worth a shot - it certainly is. You'll find menus online and the setup is super simple - you can book on their site and you get a 2 hour slot for your meal. Given it's set menus you'll know before you go whether it's good for you, but it ticked all of our boxes and all came away stuffed and content. Good value, tasty food and, despite the view from the exterior, really quite fun and nice inside. Definitely recommended.

We've held a couple of events at the NYSP in the past month, and it was great both times. Ewan was really accommodating. He moved tables etc around so we could get everyone in, and stayed open a bit later to fit our schedule. Food, music etc - all were just what we wanted and we had a terrific evening. Even though it's so central, the Steam Packet feels a bit like a well-kept secret - set back from Rose Street, lots of people in Edinburgh don't know it's there and it's easy to miss - but that just adds to the atmosphere when you find the mysterious door and go up the spiral staircase! Loved it and will definitely be back again!

Succulent!
Is how I'd describe the steak I had here - juicy, well seasoned, and melt in the mouth. Just how I like my women HA!
But seriously, a party of 6 of us had a cracking night here - great steaks, sauces and staff were lovely. BYOB is a massive bonus as well, and ensures that NYSP is a cut above a lot of the other more pretentious places nearby.
Road block.

Always great to find a BYOB place, but was particularly impressed here. Very friendly and accomodating service. Steak cooked to perfection and the sauce was divine. Delighted to have discovered this little gem of a place.

Bijou restaurant, winding staircase entrance with toilets on ground floor, no good for infirm or disabled. Food very good and it is b.y.o.b which suited us.
