Reviews of The Olive Branch
B. G.
It was our first gastronomic stop on Edinburgh, so we went for the classic fish and chips, it was delicious, fish was very crunch outside and soft inside. We tried the dark chocolate cheesecake and I have no words to how delicious it was.
G. B.
Very nice & unassuming brunch. I got the Eggs Benedict with Salmon and it was better than many other places! The English muffin wasn't over cooked, the hollandaise sauce was delicious and fresh. My son got the french toast with bacon and loved it. They served water with mint and lemon that was refreshing.
R. B.
Excellent food selection, nice atmosphere and friendly staff... recommend the beer battered fish and chips 👍
L. L.
Absolutely amazing food. Ordered the lamb shoulder and the flavor was out of this world. So good. Cheesecake was also very smooth and light
N. S.
Arrived for special birthday lunch having looked at menu prior to booking. On arrival only given brunch menu not lunch menu. When asked staff were initially reluctant to produce lunch menu. Staff not particularly friendly or helpful but food was excellent.
R. A.
The service was a bit slow here. We ordered a few drinks to have before the actual meal, but the drinks did not arrive for 30 mins. So we basically sat there till the 40th minute when the food arrived. Had to cancel the prosecco because it was meant to be had before the meal. It was still included in the bill and I had to request they take it off.
Though service was slow, the food was good.
H. B.
I had a splendid evening about 2 weeks ago, and was reminded by my friend to leave a review - the sea bream fillet was sublime, honestly top class.
However, what really made the dinner service 5* was our waitress for the evening. i can’t quite remember her name (think it began with P), but she had blonde hair and was quite small. Her service was so efficient and so polite - honestly one of the best waitressing experiences i’ve had in months.
Thanks olive tree!
Y. L.
I love avocado on toast!
d. 7.
Delicious food!
We had the daily pasta and a veal burger.
Good atmosphere too.
C. M.
Great little restaurant with an excellent menu and friendly staff. Best to book for busy times.
R. H.
Excellent food, lovely ambience close to the city centre & friendly staff. Oh yes good cocktails too! Highly recommended.
I. Q.
Very nice restaurant, good food, great wine and lovely staff. I'll start with desert, I had a chocolate bread and butter pudding. I thought there was too much sauce but it was just the right amount. Wine was lovely.
S. E.
The food was decent. But the table was sticky and they didn't accept cards that day so they made me go walk to a cash point.
E. B.
Popped in for a cup of tea or two. 3pm Sunday afternoon
Staff were lovely. Amy was our friendly waitress. Would recommend
B. W.
Came in from out of town and friends booked us here for brunch. Had quite possibly the best breakfast we've had in recent memory. It was delicious!
L. M.
Met up with family for brunch/lunch. Menu was nice with fair amount of choice. All dishes we ordered were tasty, very fresh and generous portions. Service was not the fastest which was fine for us having a leisurely catch up but maybe not the best choice if you're short of time. Average cost was £25 per head including service charge for 4 adults and 2 kids.
M. H.
Lovely food in a nice setting. Staff quick and attentive.
E. S.
Happy with food (quality/cuisine) and variety of the menu, but not so happy with the service. The interior could also do with a freshen up.
R. A.
Lovely wee find, great atmosphere, lovely food and friendly welcoming staff. Reasonably priced .
D. M.
Tried this as a couple as we were in the area, staff were friendly, nice decor. Had the two courses for £12 option, which was ok-ish value, not a massive choice though. Between us we had the pate and bread starters, and chicken and beef burger for a main. Although nothing to complain about, the food was nothing to rave about either. And a minor niggle, in the menu they had Innis and Gunn Rum Cask which I ordered, but they actually served Blood Red Sky- same brewery but a different beer (albeit it has rum cask on the label, so perhaps easily done but you would think a venue serving food and drink for a living would get this right).
L. Z.
Haven't had such an excellent dinner in ages! The atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. Staff is very nice and professional. Can only recommend! Give the waiters a good tip ;)
Would recommend to book a place for the evening.
J. T.
Service was amazing as usual... nice Sunday chilled vibe... I had my favourite breakfast/brunch item.... French toast, bacon and maple syrup with a latte.. delish!!
If you've not been... you need to go 😍
N. A.
This place is great - small and intimate! One drawback - the Background Music
Great Seafiod - Even Scottish Scallops and a Classic Shoulder of Lamb "Sunday style" Lunch. I recommend both - It has a menu that changes with the seasons - Both British and European - I've also tried their Eggs Florentine
We enjoyed it immensely
Nigel

Food was lovely, with friendly staff and timely service.
Very much a place to take parents for a nice meal than a jaw dropping gastronomic delight.
One point off for a few very minor things. Chicken was a tad dry, which is odd for a confit. Locals are prioritised (our server did a tour of the restaurant with our drinks while chatting to a regular). Balsamic with bread is about 90% oil 10% balsamic. Pricey, but as is the case for the location.
I'll definitely go back but it'll be in the rotation of good restaurants, rather than a treat or place for special occasions.
C. L.
Great atmosphere, great service and lovely food. Would recommend, 5 stars
P. N.
Fantastic food, attentive and helpful staff. Food and drinks at reasonable prices. Just off central Edinburgh highly recommended.
M. T.
Very good italian restaurant in New Town. Don't hesitate a second ! Very nice people work here !
G. R.
Really nice restaurant, relaxed atmosphere and great service. 👌
P. R. [.
Been here twice on our trip to Edinburgh. Lovely, friendly service, beautiful food and exceptionally accommodating staff. Thank you
C. G.
Very good. Lovely food, good menu choice good service.
Would recommend.
P. R.
Great dessert. The rhubarb crumble was awesome. And fries with burger had lots of garlic with them. I must visit OB again during my visit in Edinburgh.
J. B.
Perfect. Good location, it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine as we ate. The food was delicious, clean plates all round. Great wine selection and fantastic service from friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit would definitely recommend.
J. H.
Food okay not a great variety and more advice needed on ordering sides as the portions were not very big. Went there a few years ago and it was better then!
D. H.
Great little restaurant. The starters were tremendous, the high point of the meal for me. We had a mix of the scallops, monkfish cheeks and the bread and pickles. Very well cooked and creative. The risotto and the sea bream mains were also very good. 3 course dinner for two with a bottle of wine ca. £70
R. M.
Great food, lovely staff and really nice atmosphere. The ob big fry is amazing
G. T.
Great vegetarian options and a calm atmosphere
I. G.
Lovely meal - unlike me not to be able to finish my sweet but I was full! Really nice service.
C. P. B.
It's not too far from the city centre, with friendly and helpful staff. It has good facilities and the food is outstandingly good. Highly recommended for a glamorous night out
O. K.
Good fish and chips. The banana bread is a must!
E.
Just what it says on the tin - relaxed, affordable dining, good produce, good satisfying food, good service.
One star down for my fennel and rocket salad which had a strong mustard dressing, overpowering the aromatic taste of fennel and not matching the goan style monkfish.
M. W.
Was very hot when we were there! Lovely food. Great atmosphere. Quieter pre 7pm.
C. P.
We chose this place with my sister by pure chance and were very gladly surprised at the quality of the food and very professional and warm service. But we cannot overemphasize how surprised we were when the person in charge insisted on not charging as for our meal because of a mistake at the kitchen which made us wait a bit too long for our food. We would have been more than grateful with just a small attention if ever but never expected to be offered a free dinner! That shows excellent management! We strongly recommend visiting the olive branch!
J. R.
We have been to the Olive Branch a good number of times over recent years for special family occasions and celebrations. The food is consistently excellent (I had a perfectly cooked and presented rump of lamb for main course last night). There always seems to be a really friendly and warm atmosphere and the staff are just amazingly welcoming and lovely.
M. T.
Lovely little bistro with super friendly service. Had one of the best pastas I've had in a long time - a linguini with mushrooms on a Stilton cream sauce that was really, really good (was a special, so may not last long). Everything was really fresh and nicely presented, and the restaurant is cozy, warm and not too big, which makes it a comfortable dinner. Will come back
T. O.
Very nice breakfast but maybe a bit overpriced at £12 for my Bigger Breakfast and £10 for my girlfriends smaller, House Breakfast. A little disappointed with the service aswell because we tried to give the waiter some feedback about the price of an additional item we ordered that was not priced up on the menu. We were not advised of the price when we ordered it, and it ended up being relatively expensive. In response, he just said 'well I dont make the prices. I just print the bills'. Not really an appropriate response in my opinion.
P. H.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Food and service excellent
M. C.
Had the katsu curry ....proper good
Friendly comfortable place to sit n eat 👍😘😘
E. 1.
First visit to this place.
Food and service was excellent.
J. M.
My wife had the best club sandwich she's ever had.
P. P.
Found this place by chance. Loved it, definitely be back next we are in Edinburgh.
F. S.
Nice outside space .friendly staff, nice food , service a little bit slow as only two staff serving a busy restaurant, which is probably normal nowadays.
J. B.
Perfect. Good location, it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine as we ate. The food was delicious, clean plates all round. Great wine selection and fantastic service from friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit would definitely recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Sea bass was delicious with the potatoes and salsa. Staff very friendly and attentive. Would recommend to adults for a romantic meal, or any other meal for that matter.
J. A.
Went to this restaurant on Saturday 25.7.20. Made very safe by the lovely waitress who was very helpful with menu choices. Good tasty food. Would highly recommend
B. S.
We found this place by accident and were very happy about it. Loveley food and a great selection of wines. Service was quick and friendly too. Actually stayed and chatted with them until closing time! Thsnk you!
K. F.
The breakfast was delicious! The man that served us was very nice and gave recommendations for Edinburgh as well as the other places we were going in Scotland. Loved the whole experience!
K. N.
This is now my Sunday night treat every week. Food excellent arrives still hot tastes amazing. The cheesecake is the best ever 😍
F. S.
Nice outside space .friendly staff, nice food , service a little bit slow as only two staff serving a busy restaurant, which is probably normal nowadays.

Went for an evening meal on a Saturday night, with one coeliac/vegetarian in the group. Everything we ate was delicious, my pork belly was as good as I've ever had. Decent, chunky chips too. Wine list was short & simple, the Rioja we had was a little more than I usually spend but it was worth it.
Atmosphere is quiet, cosy and informal. Staff were very good, it's funny how smiling at the customer can make such a big difference.
I would recommend this place to groups of up to 4, any bigger and you might find it a bit too cosy.
K. H.
My girlfriend and I stumbled on this gem on a recent trip to Edinburgh. It was 5 star! Really friendly service from the male waiter who was local. We were there for lunch and managed to grab a bargain 2 courses for just £12! The goats cheese starter and lamb koftas were absolutely delicious and we hovered it all up! Mains were a delight too - I don't think I've ever had chips as nice and that's coming from an Irish man.. Will definitely return for dinner when next in Edinburgh.
m. s.
Came here as a birthday treat with my girlfriend and had the 2 courses lunch deal.
The food was amazing, the staff were great, and the cheesecake was heaven! Can't wait to go back.
D. S.
This is my favourite weekend brunch spot - I meet friends here for a catch-up because it's always so friendly and really good for having a chat - the tables are comfortable, you never feel crammed in, and you don't feel rushed so you can focus on your conversation. I generally end up ordering the full breakfast and a giant glass of orange juice - highly recommended!
K. S.
Despite currently living on the other side of Edinburgh, I always make a beeline for this bistro. Over the years, I've only dined here for brunch and lunch, mainly brunch but it is faultless. (We went once for brunch and stayed until past 10pm, swapping our OJ for Fizz. Don't judge.) The staff are awesome, ready to get you exactly what you like, the way you like it. My daughter loves this place too, they're great with kids here. It has a great child's breakfast menu including a Baby Cino and Croissant, raising your child in parisian fashion? Then this is for you.
A. S.
I contemplated reducing this by a star because they don't offer fried eggs on their burgers. However, that would have ultimately been unfair, because the burger was otherwise stunningly, beautifully perfect. The bun was toasted; the patty perfect; the toppings incredible. There was so much smoked bacon that some of it fell off of the burger; what stayed between the buns would have been sufficient, but they piled more on. I'm salivating as I type this; it's that good. The mint/lemon water was a bonus, as was the sunny day, and the smiles of the staff. Stop reading this and just go in.
G. M.
First meal post lockdown, and well worth it. Lovely simple food and excellent service. A new favourite.
S. D.
My favourite secret place - best staff&chef
b. l.
in a word, accommodating. went here twice in 2 days, as staff were so pleasant, food was great and there was nothing they couldn't or wouldn't do for us. we were a group of 5 adults and 1 infant child, but zero problem with cots, hangover heads and a rowdy crowd ! would recommend to all.
J. P.
We were seeking somewhere for a couple of glasses of wine and chat (away from pubs with huge screens of sport, and/noisy music). There were a few empty tables on a wet Sunday evening so The Olive Tree was happy to accommodate us. A win-win for both parties me thinks!
B. B.
Went here for my wife to bes birthday in December 2015 and it was beautiful!! Staff were warm and welcoming and the food was perfect! Could not have asked for a better experience :)
R. S.
Fantastic cafe. Really excellent food. Very highly recommended.
P. S.
Decent food, reasonably priced, but service far from great. Had to wait for 20 min to order our drinks and coat rack seems to be reserved for the table next to it.
T. L.
Nice waiters, outstanding large breakfast, Too many wasps
R. E.
Our last meal on Edinburgh. The whole family enjoyed their breakfast. Those eating the veggie breakfast really enjoyed the veggie haggis and that you could get a proper breakfast that didn't involve avocado.
A. S.
Love this place. The vegetarian brunch is brilliant and reasonably priced. They also give you free carafes of water with mint and lemon in, which tastes divine.
K. R. S.
Really good place! I tried the burger and the met was really tasty, homemade and well cook 👌🏻also the service was friendly and professional!
P. H.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Food and service excellent

Great value for money. The food was lovely and it also had friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. I would definitely eat here again.
J. G. G.
The food was ok not memorable. The atmosphere was a bit cold, but I think some people go regularly for lunch so it's consistent.
T. V.
Never actually visited the Olive branch but we order take away regularly and we are never disappointed, would recommend the burger and the fish.
D. M.
Lovely, cosy wee restaurant. Great menu. Wonderful dishes. Always busy though so book well in advance to be sure.

Turned up at 7pm with no reservation. Staff juggled the bookings to find a table for us. Had burgers with fries and salad. Absolutely excellent.
S.
Beautiful spot for lunch & a coffee. Service couldn’t be better, food was cracking and the portion sizes didn’t disappoint. Just what the doctor ordered.
J. M.
My wife had the best club sandwich she's ever had.
J. Y.
I wouldn't say it's a bargain to have 2 courses with £12 but the quality of food really amazed me, especially the soup. Definitely will visit again.
C. B.
Had the two course for £12 menu, absolutely delicious in fact I'd go as far as saying one of the best dining experiences I've had.
e. d.

(Translated) I can't say that this place is bad but unfortunately nothing special either. We got a soup of the day, which I found good, and a portion of fish and chips. Unfortunately the latter was tasteless. Nice place but nothing special.
(Original)

(Translated) Lovely place with good lunch although everything is not homemade and the cooking of eggs is to be reviewed. However, the prices are much higher than elsewhere. In view of the above, I would favor another place.

Charmant endroit avec de bons déjeuner bien que tout ne soit pas maison et la cuisson des œufs est à revoir. Tout de fois, les prix sont bien plus élevés qu’ailleurs. Au vu de ce qui précède, je favoriserais un autre endroit.
