Reviews of Dakhin
F. R.
I love Indian food and living in Manchester, we're blessed with a fantastic array of Indian restaurants... and I may not be allowed back home when I report that I may have just eaten the best South Indian food I've ever tasted. Dakhin in Glasgow - Mancunians: it's worth a trip up the West Coast. Glaswegians: you're so lucky. The batata bonda for starters were gorgeous and the vegetable biryani was delicious especially coming with my requested spicy rather than mild sauce. It may be some time before I can move again. The tasting menus look amazing - but if I want to walk back to the hotel, it's a good thing I resisted temptation. Beautiful and simply decorated restaurant employing friendly staff.

Beyond expectations. Good option for a gluten free menu. The spices are amazing. Service is good. And an enormous choice. Also a tip to share your dishes here and have a look in the kitchen if you're a amateur chef yourself.
S. B.
A delight. Southern Indian style so some excellent vegetarian and fish dishes. Friendly and helpful. See enormous and delicious seafood Dosa below
I. M.
Very nice food and a fantastic central location combined with very attentive and polite service make this a really good place to try on Glasgow's east end. The menu is impressively varied and can be complicated to understand but the servers are happy to patiently explain as necessary, definitely an up market experience, not your typical curry house, would definitely recommend.
B. N.
The Dakhin was fantastic. The food was very tasty and delicious. Service too was great, food came out quickly and staff were efficient and friendly.
Definitley be back there often. The Paper Dosas (in picture) look amazing and taste fab too.
M. M.
Whether you are gluten free or not - this is hands down the BEST Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life!
Everything on the menu is gluten free to the extent that they are @coeliacuk approved!
The food was OUTSTANDING - I had my first Dosa and my husband’s prawn curry was just 🤯outrageously good! The chutneys with the poppadoms are not like anything I’ve had before / I have had my fair share of Indian curries’
Highly recommend this place if you are ever in Scotland - make your way to the Merchant Quarter to Dakhin in Glasgow - the charming staff will win you over instantly.
Loads of good veggie options too.

Divine, I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! Mind-blowingly delicious food, lovely staff, and reasonable pricing. What's not to love!
P. S.
Mind blowing. I have no words to describe this place. Indian restaurant??? Completely gluten free menu???? Unbelievable. The food was so good that I literally have no words. The service was impeccable. I would've ordered more food if my tummy had more space. Can't wait to visit again!
S. P.
Great South Indian restaurant. The fact that it was busy says it all! Really nice food and fab service.
L. S.
Absolutely delicious! Such an interesting array of dishes and excellent value too. Ordered the vegan sharing experience and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent, happily allowing us to swap one of the dishes out for a paneer dish as one member of our party wasn't vegan. And, absolutely everything on the menu was gluten free!
M. B.
Rarely you see South Indian food in UK cities. This is a great choice to try southern Indian cuisine. Great table service. Located at a popular merchant city area in Glasgow. Parking can be an issue if visiting during busy hours.
R. S.
Really the best South Indian food I've ever had outside of India. Incredibly fresh and bursting with flavour and so true to the region. Not to mention they are coeliac UK accredited with a 100% gluten free kitchen. Seriously considering moving to Glasgow just so I can eat here all the time. Bravo to all the staff!
M. E.
An excellent restaurant for those coeliac who cannot eat gluten. Entirely gluten free menu. Great choice and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Tasty if a little expensive.
J. Q.
One of my favourite Southern Indian restaurants, great food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
F.
First visit this evening, and we'll definitely be returning.
It's so nice to know that all the food is Gluten Free, and it's absolutely fabulous too.
Delicious sweet lassi to drink and a dessert menu with things we've not tasted before. Absolutely love this place!
A. M.
We had our first visit, but it won't be our last, here yesterday. My daughter is Gluten intolerant so it was a great to see the whole menu is GF. Don't let this put you off though as the tastes throughout are fantastic. Upon arrival you were hit with a wonderful aroma of herbs and spices making you feel hungry before you even sit down. We tried the Kaveri taster menu with an interesting mixture of tastes, flavours with chicken, lamb, fish and vegan all included. Service first class too. Thank you for a brilliant night
J. B.
Had a lovely lunch here yesterday, the staff were friendly and the restaurant was lovely. The food was different and delicious. We had spinach bhaji to start and dosa for our mains. My friend had chicken and I had the masala dosa (the vegetarian one). They were really filling and one would definitely have been enough between two. Really nice to try somewhere a wee bit different. We ate using the pre theatre deal.
V. L.
What a fabulous meal. Great service. Kind staff. Great vegan choices. The dosa is to die for. X
S. D.
Great meal, three excellent courses. Including a top-notch dessert which is, in my experience, a bit of a rarity in most Indian restaurants in Glasgow. And very pleasantly surprised to find them serving an Indian rum.
J. M.
Excellent service and food was delicious.. First time trying South Indian dishes and they were lovely. Great to find a gluten free restaurant.. Spotlessly clean.
S. D.
I can't compare Dakhin to any other Indian restaurant I'd visited as I just hadn't tasted anything remotely similar before. What I do know, is that it's one of the best Indian meals I've had. Cooked to perfection. **Ignorant man alert** as a South Indian restaurant, I had no idea what any of the dishes were - waiter talked us through the choices and even went into detail on the recipes and how they were cooked. Lovely place, great staff. Will definitely return.
On a different note, if I had noticed that everything was gluten free, I "might" have chosen a different restaurant due, again, to my ignorance. This would have been a HUGE mistake.
J. W.
A real gem if you love Indian food. Nothing like the usual and tops any Indian I’ve ever been to. Staff were spot on with service. In a great spot in Glasgow too. Nice big windows with second floor views. The menu offers a great range and I wish I could have tried more. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back.
D. H.
We enjoyed the pre theatre menu on a Saturday lunchtime. Gluten free is a bonus for me but the food is superb.
We had free appetisers of popadoms with fresh and tasty sauces, followed by chicken and vegetable starters. For mains we had lamb and the most amazing dhosa - it hung off the ends of a pretty large plate!
All of the food was fresh tasting and delicately spiced. Despite good-sized servings we still managed to clear all our plates.
This is not a cheap restaurant, but the standards of food and service are meticulous. We will eat here again many times, I hope.
D. G.
They failed to realise their mistake after they mixed up our orders and gave a vegetarian person a non-vegetarian dish. They were very arrogant and completely biased towards their server who they claimed is honest because he has been working their long-term. I would be wary if you are a vegetarian! This place is unprofessional. The food was average!
K. M.
Loved this. 100% gluten free South Indian food. I felt so spoiled to be able to chose freely without having to check or work my way through an allergens menu or realise there was nothing I could eat. I could eat everything! My only regret was not having time or greed to eat more. Poppadums and chutney were great. Mushroom fritter things to start were amazing! Biryani mains gorgeous. Glass of wine. All fantastic. We saw people eating dosa three foot long! The fish looked amazing. Such a lovely fresh menu. Great service. Really enjoyed it.
d. f.
Nut-free-across-the-whole-menu south Indian cuisine is a rarity. At Dakhin we found it. The food was indeed tasty, wholesome and not at all oily, a big fault with other Indian restaurants. On the expensive side though, particularly the masala dosas, crispy crepes made of fermented rice and lentil batter filled with savory potato filling , a popular and very cheap dish in south India.
A. P.
Best Indian restaurant in Glasgow in my opinion... especially as a vegetarian although plenty good meat and fish options. Staff and service always top notch and consistent...
p. g.
Restaurant was clean and good presentation. My friends liked the non veg food very much but veg was not that great. It actually feels like authentic South Indian. The posters in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil when we enter the restaurant was interesting.
J. E.
Good selection of dishes, with something for everyone. Great service, tasty food, and decently priced for the quality and quantity you get.
N. K.
Excellent food and very helpful service. Pretty good value for the money. Highly recommended!
M. K.
Delicious food, great service and also very good with food allergies. The whole menue is gluten free / nut free. A recommender to visit in Glasgow
R. L.
We liked the service. Simple decor. Different type of South Indian menu. Tasty food.
B. C.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. The menu was big with lots to choose from. We had the selection of 3 breads which were all delicious and a chicken curry and a paneer curry, both very tasty. Great service from the waiters as well. Would highly recommend this place 👍🏼
E. W.
Absolutely love it here. Completely gluten free so husband can eat without fear!
A. T.
Authentic South Indian Food & the flavours are just amazing. Their Chettinad is a must try.
K. M.
Food absolutely delicious and even better when 100% Gluten Free. Would definitely recommend this place!
R. W.
A midweek treat of gluten free goodies. Great staff and delicious food, if you’re in merchant city, go!
s. f.
The food was lovely. I have ordered here via deliveroo ages ago and the food was really great. Hence when we went to Glasgow, went for a meal here.. Loved the place and the food was amazing. It was the service that was outstanding. It seemed seamless and well organized and the staff seemed really nice and nothing was too much trouble for them. A great team at work!
N. D.
Lovely food, quiet, pleasant atmosphere. I have been here several times and always love it. Totally recommend the paper dosa too. Delicious!
M. M.
Best Indian l have ever had and all meals are 100% gluten free
M.
The food was wonderful - and the service attentive. Very quiet- but it was a Monday evening.
L. V.
Expensive and Service was bit slow. But the food was really amazing!
S. K.
We had a lovely meal for my mother-in-law's birthday. The staff were very attentive and made a fuss of her and brought her over a wee dessert with a candle. The food was fabulous as usual and great atmosphere. Loved our lunch there and we left very happy and well looked after.
R. “. R.
Absolutely amazing!! Went with my wife while we were out on honeymoon. Gives different stuff from the Indian restaurants I’ve been to before. Not had a meal like that in ages where everything tastes so good and you just keep getting surprised by how good it is. Staff were great and they didn’t even need to wright down any of the orders🙌
Oh and for what you get it is very good value for money.
Definitely would go again.
M. P.
Good south indian food, the appetizers are amazing.
L. G.
Had an amazing meal - we wanted somewhere that would cater for vegan and gluten free guests and this hit the spot. The food was fabulous - so tasty and everyone in our party of 5 really enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent - all waiting staff were really friendly, helped us with the choice of dishes and very attentive. I cannot recommend Dakhin highly enough - this was our first visit but I will definitely be back.
j. m.
Must be one of the best curry restaurants in Glasgow. Excellent food, extensive menu with good vegetarian options. Staff extremely attentive.
A. C.
Food excellent as always, but unfortunately the service was not as efficient as usual. The restaurant wasn't busy so not sure what the issue was, but we've never had cause for concern before.
D. B.
Was wonderful to be back for lunch at Dakhin after so long. Travelled from Edinburgh specially & (AS ALWAYS) it was well worth the journey. Staff were friendly & helpful, the food was delicious (especially the spicy lamb) & the pre-theatre menu was good value for a Saturday afternoon. Will be back soon & will return to sister restaurant Dhabba as well as soon as we can manage it.
M. M.
A smart first floor location in Merchant City, Glasgow. Inside was minimalist but stylish but we came for the food & not the decor. The service was excellent & the food tasty. The lunch time 3 course menu was around £10 and with drinks about £15 each. We were there for about an hour and there was no rush to oust us. All in all an enjoyable dining experience.
A. M.
Fantastic fresh authentic south Indian food. Full menu is 100% gluten free. Proper food not the cheap take away rubbish.
R. Q.
One the best restaurants in Glasgow in my opinion. Exceptional food and attentive staff.
G. D.
What a great find. Lovely food and such friendly helpful staff. Delicious. Highly recommended
A. M.
Authentic South Indian food
Just superb, Service is always so good and Food is absolutely outstanding.
Best masala dosa in Scotland.
S. S.
I visited this place as recommended by one of my British colleague who usually visit here to enjoy some nice Indian food. I tried a dosa and was so good and yum. The chutneys along with dosa are delicious. This place serves different traditional south Indian food. A must visit places for Indian food lovers.
a. c.
Now our go to place to eat.
Love coming here, great service from the team and the food is just our favourite. Took 6 old friends there last week and EVERYONE of them loved it.
Thank you all
M. B.
Outstanding. Really varied menus. Very reasonably priced and 5 star service.
I. M.
Just sublime, taster menu was fantastic. Will be back in a heartbeat
j. m.
Food was amazing, we were pleasantly surprised. Staff were lovely and attentive.
J. P.
Very tasty authentic Indian food. Atmosphere was good on a Monday evening and staff were attentive but not overly so. The pre theatre meal deal was good value. The dosa were huge and very tasty but the sauce lacked a bit of depth.
S. A. B.
So good not to have to worry about whether something is gluten free or not, it all is! Amazing range of veggie and vegan options too. Food is delicious and portions generous. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Coronavirus precautions in place and it felt safe and relaxed.
ฐ.
Good taste!
I had 3 course lunch and it was good. I love chicken one starter (I forgot the food name). Ice-cream is also interesting, coconut with lemon.
S. G.
Fabulous lunch for group of 7 friends getting together for the first time since before Covid. We pre-ordered the Vegan Tasting Menu- great value at £22 per head. All the dishes were delicious, and we had more than enough food for all- even taking away one untouched whole main course! Really nice flavours, and not at all greasy or oily. Decor very attractive, and restaurant spacious and airy. Toilets were clean. The service was spot-on: attentive, but not too overbearing. I loved this place, and will definitely be back very soon! Thank you! 😊
N. D.
Absolute best food in town.
N. A.
I agree wholeheartedly that this has to be one of the best restaurants in Glasgow AND totally Gluten Free! Every. Single. Thing. This places makes eating out gluten free fun again. Nice design.
The fried fritters (gluten free) were perfection. Often chicken in these fried foods can be low quality. Not this time. The sauces, dosas, it was all so good. I wish they had one by my house in London. Even my very picky son was thrilled by the variety and flavors. And all gluten free. Heaven
J. A.
Wow what an amazing restaurant, not sure if I can write anything that will do it justice! Entire restaurant is gluten free of course but you wouldn’t notice from the quality of the food. Great selection of dishes and I was particularly enthralled by all the different types of (gluten free) bread available. We ordered far too much as it was simply too difficult to choose (+ on another plus side, we got to take the remains home with us at the end of the night.) There were also dishes on the menu I've never seen anywhere else in the UK, so couldn't wait to try the idli & vadas: also delicious, of course! Cannot wait to return.
S. H.
Amazing Indian food and quite different from the usual selection at other Indian restaurants! Make sure to try their dosa bread. 😋
J. M.
Great south Indian food. I loved their selection of different gluten free breads (no naan, no papadum!) and they even "customized" the mixed flame cooked platter for me (one person). Also, the stuff was very nice.
M. M.
Always amazing. We are regulars. Our new experience this time was the chicken tandoori. Delicious, spicy with lime and coriander. Would thoroughly recommend. We ordered riata with it as a cooler downer.
a. s.
Murray is a great guy. He is a good leasor too! Good food
N. M.
Nice place to dine. Wonderful ambiance and good staff. Overall it's a good experience being first time..!!
E. C.
As a celiac American visiting Glasgow, I was really excited to see Dakhin in my Google search. They did not disappoint. The banana leaf wrapped fish was divine, and the dosa was incredibly flavorful. If you have the opportunity to eat here, I suggest it!
J. S.
Always guaranteed great food and service. My favourite Indian restaurant in Glasgow. Can highly recommend 👌
C. D.
Really enjoyable tasting menu. The coconut monkfish curry was amazing.
J. M.
Staff lovely. Food amazing, loads of fresh spice flavours. And the dosa have to be both seen and tasted to be believed!
S. S.
Sambhar and masala dose were good. The time we went was very busy and noisy.
L. S.
delicious south Indian food, been here many times and never a let down. Especially like - idli sambar but everything we tried here is good!
R. G.
It was a family night out for 5 of us and my daughter is gluten intolerant and my grandson dairy free. The food and service were outstanding and everything on the menu was great and the dosa - large one - was really exceptional.
J. M.
Outstanding service, outstanding meal, if only there was a word to describe how good it was… 😃
J.
Great if you are coeliac, 100% gluten free menu. Amazing food, however at above average price. However it is justified with the taste.
D. B. M.
Absolutely delicious food! Came to try it with Eat Out to Help out.
t. j.
Been here a couple of times now and the food has always been great. My only gripe is that the whole menu is gluten-free but the only GF beer they have is Peroni.
There are quite a few GF beers now available on draught and the choice on bottled/canned GF beers is pretty good - including GF Cobra. It would be great if there was more GF beer options to match the food menu.
R. A. M.
Top quality food and service!! I’m allergic to tree nuts and peanuts and they have a nut free kitchen which is fantastic!! Highly recommend and we’ll be back again for sure!
J. F.
Visited Dakhin whilst on a weekend break in Glasgow, and so pleased that I did. We were attending a concert at the City Halls so the locate was perfect. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient.
P. M.
Really lovely food. The dosa's are pretty special. Service was excellent. Top class.
S.
Next level good. Had a great meal, good wine and most excellent staff.
A. A. Z.
Excellent food at reasonable prices
P. P. M.
Great place to have a south Indian food in Glasgow....good staff and service...
M. G.
Price, quality and attention are superb. Nothing bad to say about them.
Had very high expectations about this place and was absolutely not disappointed.
A. B.
Good food and service; the dosas were great.
M. B. C.
I was oh so pleasantly surprised when brought here for dinner a while back for a pre-theatre meal (conveniently right in front of the Old Fruit market and City Hall). The meal reminded me immediately if the food I tried during a trip to India: delicious, authentic, warming, spiced to perfection. The dosa they serve is impressive considering the size and texture. So so happy I try this place out and looking forward to coming back to try their idlis (a breakfast item we had almost every morning in Chennai and I've been craving ever since); this is the only place I've seen that offers them!
J. B.
Phenomenal food, very flavoursome and just the right amount of spicy heat. The fact the entire menu is completely gluten free is amazing for people like my friend who can't eat any gluten, they have the full menu to choose from. Good variety of drinks to accompany your meal and absolutely incredible service all night. Highly recommend.
R. F.
We had never tried Dosa before. You will be impressed, very different to your (I'm sure very tasty) local Indian restaurant. Huge pancakes filled with a variety of spices and tastes.
Very good and would go again when back in the city.
Great atmosphere.
C. C.
Absolutely beautiful food, first class. Highly recommended. Family member was coeliac and menu full catered for them 😃
S. S.
Fantastic food and the pre-theatre meal is good value.
Comfortable friendly atmosphere.
Much recommended
J. F.
Loved the chettinad chicken and the bread selection
D. B.
This has to be the best Indian restaurant in Glasgow and probably further afield.
Such a varied and different menu, not your typical restaurant and food do well prepared and presented.
S. B.
Lovely wee INDIAN RESTAURANT a bit different from the usual. Was enjoyable. Said they were glutton free. So no big nan breads but had their own home made bread. Was 👌 🆗️
A. B.
Nice location, amazing food and good service. Highly recommended!
S. S.
Excellent restaurant, great South Indian food.
J. M.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon - lunchtime menu - good choice especially for anyone on a gluten-free diet. Staff are so nice and the food is first class - good value and excellent portions.
S. D.
On of the best restaurants I've been to in Glasgow. The Mamsam Lamb Pepper Fry was so good, I'd probably take the rain from London just to eat it.
P. S.
The server there (Murrari) was amazing. He was extremely professional and kind. I would go back to this place when he is there.
5 stars for him.
D. S.
The currys are amazing but it's a bit steep.
S. G.
Excellent experience trying a different style of Indian food. Very nice. Good service.
S. W.
Indian food is my absolute favourite and tonight these guys served up possibly one of the best Indian meals I have ever had.
Great choice on the menu, with loads of dishes I had never heard of before.
The staff were very friendly.
And most impressively the entire kitchen is gluten free so for the first time in years my wife could eat without feeling nervous.
A great restaurant overall and we will definitely be back.
Can't recommend it enough!
J. P.
This place is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to. The food delicious.
E. R.
Dosas were spectacular, my chicken was tasty but a little chewy - perhaps slower cooking would have helped.
D. O.
Excellent food but the décoration is not existant inside thé restaurant. Rather cold place
M. K.
Thali for lunch, great value
M. P.
Great food. A bit crowded, but the wait was absolutely worth it.
J. L.
Food was superb and authentic. Staff very welcoming and helpful.
L. D.
Probably the best Indian i've been to. The food is incredibly tasty and fresh, it's like a different burst of ingredients with each mouthful. The menu is extensive with a wide range of choices; chicken, fish, lamb, vegetarian, and vegan. Highly recommend the monk-fish curry. Have been here twice now and have enjoyed the food both times. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Look forward to my next curry here!
h. c. (.
Food was expensive but lovely experience and the food was absolutely excellent
E. C.
Brilliant food and service. Highly recommended.
A. B.
Pre theatre meal was really nice with reasonable choices.
S. G.
Hidden gem! This is a great restaurant. Food was top class and service was good. Some of the best monkfish I've tried.
Not your typical Indian restaurant as the dishes aren't from Northern India which is what most Indian restaurants serve. Instead, it offers fresh and exciting southern and mid-region dishes.
I would recommend going a few times to get a taste of what you like as you'll be trying dishes for the first time therefore there will be things you like and don't like.
A. J. M.
We had been in the Dhabba the sister restaurant of the Dhakin dhabba-north India Dhakin- South India more spicy food, the food was flavoursome and would recommend spices wise, we will not be going back, staying with the dhabba
G. F.
Fantastic food! Great staff! Wonderful atmosphere! Will definitely eat here again.
C. D.
Great food, great service. We had the best time. Will definitely be back
G. M.
By far the nicest Indian meal I have ever had. Service was outstanding, everything we had was so fragrant and unique, there is absolutely nothing generic about this place. Amazing chefs, cannot praise highly enough. It's a bit more money compared to your generic local Indian of course but it is so worth it because you get what you pay for and more in my opinion. I'll be back as regularly as I can that's for sure!
J. M.
Good lunch menu for a great price, very friendly staff.
j.
Really like this place. Have been a couple of times. Menu is great. Food is described as South Indian and i understand there is a sister restaurant just along from it with North indian cuisine. Most enjoyable. We didn't book and were frankly lucky to get a table as very busy at around 6:30pm on Saturday evening. I will return again.
C. H.
My new favourite restaurant in Glasgow
H. L.
The best Indian restaurant in the entire UK?
A. H.
Everything we ate was outstanding. Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
P. D. P.
Awesome food and service.
Tried siru-uttappam with avial.
One of the best South Indian restaurants in Glasgow.
M. &. L. F. A.
Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Glasgow if not the UK! The whole menu is gluten free and absolutely delicious. The staff is amazing, we just keep coming back to this place and we feel at home. Don't forget to buy a paper dosa, you won't regret it!
L. “. F.
Good food & nice place! The menu has a lots of different choices. Our dishes were very good. We took also an appetizer but probably 2 main dishes are enough as the portions are quite substantial! The staff is very kind. I've spilled my drink and they immediately helped and also gave me another one, so nice! 🙂
A. M.
Best Indian anywhere. As a person with a gluten and dairy intolerance this is the best restaurant for me, the staff are excellent and in formative about all dishes. I've been a few times with family and the staff remembered my dairy intolerance and as I was asking about something on the menu the waiter said I wouldn't be able to have that as it had milk in it. Fantastic place can't wait to go back.
I. L.
Went here for a Christmas lunch with former colleagues. Not traditional Christmas fare but that was to be expected. We went for one of the taster menus. Food was very good. Being South Indian maybe not what you might expect but certainly worth a try, if you haven't eaten it before. Portions were a bit smaller than what I might have hoped for but certainly would visit again.
V. M.
Lovely restaurant, good service and excellent food; a bit different to the usual Indian menu. Starters (prawns / coconut mushrooms) were very nice and main courses were just beautiful (okra / coconut lamb). Kingfisher on draught which was a bonus. Really good portion size. Lamb perfectly cooked and great vegetarian choices as well.
A. H.
Great food. Not yer usual Indian, different spices and unusual flavours
R. T.
Really fantastic South Indian food - not cheap but worth every penny, and it's all GF. Main courses are huge and very filling. A great treat and a great night out. Highly recommended!
L. S.
Delicious food, excellent service!
M. M.
Different south Indian cuisine with small menu at present. Very nice combination of dishes with just the right amount of food.
C. W.
The restaurant has a lovely ambience. Good for a date, a night with friends, or a family dinner. The service was quick and efficient and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was beautiful; plenty of variety, generous but sensible portion sizes, good prices and it tasted delicious. I thoroughly recommend this place and will definitely return to it.
K. M.
Loved the food here. Large place with tables and booths. Nice atmosphere
S. B.
I love this place, my favourite restaurant in all categories!
Unique menu of stunning dishes - a real curry connoisseur's restaurant. Really stylish place with cool music which gives a great taste of a modern India. And may I recommend the awesome dosas! PS - really well priced too.
A. T.
Great food, great service, and we were lucky to get the great value early evening menu. Will defiantly be back
M.
Get wee find in merchant city. Could easily walk past front door as it's hidden away on the first floor. Staff are polite and good at their job. Menu offers a good choice but the quality in food and taste is excellent. Even down to the rice all have a unique flavour you can taste. Out of 4 dishes we all could taste the difference in the taste of each dish. Rather than the well it s different colour of sauce and hotter extra. And the pre 6pm deal is excellent. Will be back very soon
S. S.
Fabulous food and service and nice for my partner to relax and enjoy and not have to ask for a limited GF menu !!! We will be back soon !!
G. K.
Bloody amazing food! Took me straight to South India sitting in the heart of Glasgow! Highly recommended
L. H.
Fantastic meal, I have had many 'so called' Indian meals in London but Dakhin has to be the best south Indian meal I have ever had. Loved the Dosa and authentic cooking, big change from your standard Indian restaurants. Well Done!
C. H.
Two main points for anyone deciding whether to come:
*Don't bring kids
*If you frequently eat South Indian food at a normal South Indian restaurant the prices will be a shock
To expand upon these:
Not welcoming for kids. I wouldn't have brought him here of my own volition, but a friend was showing us around and specifically wanted to share this place with us, so we politely accepted Not really anything small/inexpensive on the menu for them other than plain breads, and if your kid hasn't grown into eating spicy foods yet (try as we might, our 4 year old still wipes spicy things out of his mouth) they won't have much to share off your plate either. The bathroom sinks are not only high, they're so far back even holding him up wasn't close enough to reach the water and soap, he was crawling across it.
Prices:
£4 for a dosa with absolutely nothing on it. £15 for a filled dosa. What. Are the diners unaware what this food normally costs? Experience of a pretty room and fancy rolling worth an extra 50% tops not 250%! The food was tasty no doubt but this is extortionate.
L. G.
Very tasty south indian food. Staff are usually friendly and helpful. Service has been slow/spotty at times but still a nice place. They have a lot of veggie options too which is a big plus.
A. M.
Great dosa, best I've had outside India. Great service and menu, definitely be back
S. J.
I had a vegetable thali. Paneer curry was very oily. Not very good. They don't have chapattis. But the sambhar and Raita was good.
My friends had Dosa and non vegetarian thali. They said it both were good.
But a bit costly.
M. D.
I love curry and especially south Indian. Flavours are more aromatic than your normal takeaway, but very high quality never the less. Next time I will be looking out for the spicy lamb starter. Hopefully they can turn it into a main course.
J. W.
Very good food, would definitely recommend.friendly staff and Chef Sunny is really good. slightly expensive
G. C.
Really lovely lunch, food was delicious, great menu, great price, lovely staff, really nice interior, well worth a visit.
c. q.
This is a brilliant Indian restaurant. The food is delicious, the pre-theatre menu excellent value, big portion sizes and with amazing service.
D. M.
Delicious food and excellent, friendly service
L. K.
Went here after trying their other restaurant The Dhabba, they both specialise in different areas of India, Dakhin is South Indian. The flavours are very interesting - the menu can seem a little but daunting if you don't know what you want but the staff are great at recommending dishes for your palette! Will definitely be back.
P. M.
The service is friendly and relaxing with the waiters offering good advice on portion size and taste combinations. The food is a triump: interesting super tasty. We were there with the whole family and everyone was enjoying the trying different dishes. Must try....
z. p.
Went with my friends to Dakhin, the food was okay. I had ordered fish in banana leaf, it was smelly and partially cooked. Very disappointed.
H. M.
Good choice of vegan options, lovely big Dosa and fast courteous service!
R. L.
2nd time here and it doesn't disappoint. Food is great and staff are friendly and helpful, would always recommend. All food is halal which is a bonus and coeliac friendly. Top marks
S. C.
The food was delicious. Just as tasty as I experienced in South of India 2 years ago.
Staff was very helpful and polite.
G. H.
First time, and absolutely loved it. Very tasty, great setting and the staff were amazing. The whole menu was gluten free (yes, the ENTIRE menu) which made my friend very happy. Highly recommended!
H. H.
Gluten free South Indian cuisine. Excellent food. Staff are efficient and friendly...the right level of attention. One of my favourite places to eat.
P. C.
Lovely food, with wonderful options for everyone, carnivores, vegetarians, vegans & all gluten free! Welcoming staff, covid respectful environment. Highly recommend.
Q. K.
Amazing food and great service.
Menu is extensive and vegan menu is pretty great.
E. I.
Average.
Our first visit here in 2019 was a lot better.
I. G.
First class, excellent, amazing!! Can't say enough good things about this place. Right in the heart of Merchant City in Glasgow. The food is different to what you will find in most Indian restaurants on the west coast of Scotland and is really REALLY good!! Can't fault any of it. Food is really tasty, they have a good selection of food, ok selection of beer and friendly staff. Only issue might be parking around that area can be a nightmare and it is upstairs so not sure about disabled access etc... Even if you can't park near by it is only a 10-15 min walk into the city centre.

“Best South Indian Food in the Western Hemisphere”
I can't say enough good things about this place regarding the quality of food and awesome service. We went twice to this restaurant last week (once for dinner and once for lunch). After experiencing crowded places across Britain with not so great ambiance, this restaurant was fabulous in having tons of space and room to breathe along with the ambiance expected at a high end restaurant. It was a very relaxing experience especially because the restaurant wasn't too crowded. We ordered the Masala dosa, and Vegetable Uthappam and both of them were stellar! I've been to a lot of restaurants across UK, India, and many parts of the world, and I haven't found a place where the these items are made better (even when compared to home). The serving sizes are also really big and the Chutneys, aloo curry, and sambhar were all provided in abundant supply making for a full meal. My one tip I would give to anyone going there is don't order Lemon Rice because it doesn't really contain any lime juice. This was the one disappointing dish on the menu.
M. A.
This must be the best Indian restaurant in Glasgow, and I have tried most of them! The South Indian style is something different and the staff is really friendly and accommodating.
I recommend letting them choose your menu and sharing all the courses between guests. The portions are really large, and you most likely won't need one course per person even.
I would try their Meen Moillee, which is monkfish in a mild coconut sauce.
D. R.
The best Indian food we have ever had. The staff were very helpful & welcoming.
Great venue. All in all an excellent dining experience!
A. M.
Very nice place. Good food, service and value. Will be back.
A. C.
Best Indian restaurant bar none.
A. S.
Fantastic food and service every time.
C. S.
Celiac heaven, menu 100% GF!
Food was delicious, place was well used but all very clean & great staff service. An absolute must. South Indian made a nice change (they have North Indian across Road if you fancy your more usual dishes, not been can't comment on there.)
G. T.
The food and service are outstanding. If you've never tried a dosa then you really need to visit. The flavours of South Indian cuisine are pretty special!
I. N.
The best meal I've had all year. Our band was in Glasgow for the World Pipe Band Championships. A band mate and I were walking back to where we were staying when he spotted a sign for Dakhin and said, "I've heard it's pretty good."
I've eaten North Indian cuisine many times, but never South Indian. So we asked the waiter to pick a few things out for us based on general preferences for spices, hotness, etc. He mentioned a haddock dish which was a specialty and which I now know from looking on line is called Meen Porichathu.
Now I come from a fishing town and am always a bit wary when someone extols the quality of their seafood. But I gave it a chance, as well as a lamb dish (if I remember correctly).
It exceeded all expectations. The most perfectly cooked fish and balance of flavors I've had in a long time; the spice and heat were very subtle and only there to enhance the natural taste and texture of the dish. The other dish and appetizers were excellent as well (including dosa, that 3' long scroll shaped tube of bread), but the haddock made such a first rate impression, I could have eaten that by itself.
The waiter, who carried himself like the proprietor, took tremendous pride in our service and presentation of the meal.
C. H.
Great choice of quality food and excellent service to match.
The pre theatre menu offers a good value early evening menu with a good variety on it.
A. M. (. R.
What a place. First of all we got an amazing welcome. The staff were fantastic about answering questions regarding the menu. And the food. OMG I loved every mouth full. I'll definitely be back
B. C.
Now a convert to South Indian cuisine after last night's meal at Dakhin. The best Indian food I have ever tried. No exaggeration!
m. g.
Best South Indian food I’ve ever had. The mixed grill is sensational with the thick spicy sauce. Best dosa also, incredible meal.
A. A.
Owned by the same people as the close by Dhabba, this Indian restaurant offers instead a taste of south India. Your tastes will dictate whether you like north (The Dhabba) or south (Dakhin) Indian cuisine. I now know I prefer the drier, hotter dishes of the north. Let your taste buds travel the continent!
S. J. K.
Incredibly Insane... Delicious South Indian Food.
p. v.
Nice Ambience and Good Taste
M. T.
Great restaurant of South Indian Culture and Cuisine with every dish gluten free and plenty of veggie and some vegan options too as well as all the traditional dishes. Be earned good sized portions! So. Go there hungry!
D. M.
Coeliac certified great food.
E. W.
Southern Indian Restaurant. Different dishes. Lots of fish. I had a lamb starter that was so tender and the sauce was amazing. I then had Monk Fish in a medium sauce. Superb.
D. M.
Wonderful authentic Indian food. Gourmet level
K. Y.
Very happy I went there. Make sure you are hungry. Friendly staff as well.
I. B.
Very nice elegant and taste food from south India. Very nice staff helpfully and kind. Slightly different from a normal curry place but if you ask the staff they will help you and advice you pefectly
R. K.
Best South Indian food in Glasgow.
Especially Biryani amd Dosa are superb.
D. M. (. &. C.
Really great curry, fantastic range of dishes in a great atmosphere.
E. B.
Good service and lovely food will return
N. W.
Very good South Indian food (all gluten-free) in a nice atmosphere and great service. Great!
H. O.
Very cozy and friendly place. Very nice food. Actually the quantity is more then enough compared to other Indian restaurants. This restaurant serves more South Indian style.
K. Y.
Excellent food, make sure to be hungry! Will definitely go back.
R. M.
Excellent South Indian food, if that's what you are looking for. Great setup and ambiance. Service staff is genuine and friendly.
A. J.
Great food with good selection of authentic southern Indian dishes. nice atmosphere, freindly staff and reasonable prices.
e. b.
Vibrant dishes. Multiple tasty breads I'd never heard of before. Great!
J. M.
Indian tucked away upstairs across from merchant square. Nice bright modern interior and usually ok to walk-in without a reservation except for prime time. The Dosas (pancakes) bring something different to the table and come along with pretty good curries too
A. W.
First time trying this place. Not your usual Indian restaurant. Loved it.
D. A.
I was in Dakhin several times and each time the overall experience was great! it's definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Glasgow. Southern-style food is different from what you are likely to get used to. Food is tasty, vegetarian options are available too. You will not be disappointed.
K. R.
Nice food quality and quantity, great for South Indian food. If you are from India, you'll find it expensive but as compared to other restaurants around, this is comparatively cheaper.
N. H.
The staff and service were great. The food let me down a bit since they claim to do authentic south indian dishes but the food served did not taste authentic.
R. M.
Superb meal and service. Many thanks.
R. H.
We had a great meal. Especially as my friend needs gluten free food. Staff very friendly.
S. P.
Went for a works night out. Lovely food but limited menu and not usual choices. If you want something different then this is the place.
N. F.
Staff were friendly and professional observing all the Covid rules. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
D. R.
Food was delicious and a nice change from the usual style of Indian cooking available in the UK. Service was friendly and helpful. Particularly nice treat for Coeliac diners that all the food is gluten free, so no need to pick from a limited menu. As far as I can tell the only access is by stairs, so not great from an accessibility perspective.
R. A.
Really good food, totally different from your average Indian meal because it has the Southern Indian twists. Great meal discount for the pre-theatre dinner slot, a third off!
A. B.
Great food with completely different menu (authentic) to the regular Glasgow curry shops. The jumbo prawns are amazing but also really expensive.
M. R.
excellent food! great staff!
M. M.

D. R.
Lovely food, nice decor, friendly staff. Excellent experience.
B. G.
Top notch dining experience, staff first class.
E.
Delicious food! We go there because the food is guaranteed to be gluten free and there's no chance of any cross contamination and for that reason Dhakin is the only restaurant my husband will eat in. The staff are always lovely, the food always top notch and the atmosphere is relaxing. The Dosas are so huge I'm not sure how a normal person is supposed to eat it all... I left half of mine but luckily my husband isn't normal and he managed to defeat his! ;)
P. M.
Very different menu to your typical Indian restaurant however, delicious food and great service.
k. c.

Terrific food and great service!
j. h.
The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived, not unusual for a Friday evening. Service was decent - there was a decent complement of staff but they still all were rushing around. The complementary poppadoms were pretty good and came with some amazing spicy coconut sprinkles. We had the Keerai Bhaji for a starter - not bad. For the mains we had Mysore Chilli Koli and Meen Pulli Kozhambu. Both were excellent. A word of caution - both were only marked as 1 chilli on the menu (some dishes were marked as 2), but they were both fairly spicy.
S. E.
Incredible meal, worth a visit by anyone who likes Indian cuisine!
