Reviews of La Bonne Auberge
G. S.
Nice restaurant; booked a table during the week for the 2/3 course special. The selections were great and the food was awesome. The staff there were also very patient, as we had a somewhat late booking. I got some minced steak as my main and creme Brule as dessert, can't exactly remember what my friend ordered but I've inserted a photo. I'd definitely recommend the place.
C. H.
I was here a couple of weeks ago with Friends. I absolutely loved it. Service was amazing so friendly and welcoming. food - French Onion soup and Creme Brulee fantastic. Enjoyed it that much going back for an Afternoon Tea.
E. K.
Absolutely loved my food when i stayed at the HI i have never had something as amazing as i had at this restraunt... if im ever up that end of the town again i will pop in for food

Another visit today, one of many , and as always the service and the quality of the food and drink are 10/10 impeccable, a great place to dine out day or night, thoroughly recommend, the staff are second to none .
10/10 A+
Spotlessly clean, impeccable service from very well presented and well mannered bar and waiting staff, a friendly yet laid back quiet space in Glasgow City centre adjacent to Buchanan Bus station.
Good menu and good selection of drinks, they evidently have a very good chef in house.
Highly recommended any time morning, noon or night for great food and a nice atmosphere, have been several times and will return.
A+
Visited for breakfast today, 6th October, service excellent as always.
**************
Popped by for breakfast with my mother today December 7th 2019 , great service and very nice food as always.
A+ again 👍
Visited again today, 26th September 2021 having also visited the last few weekends , as always spotlessly clean, food A++ and service very very good, all staff very polite and friendly , great place to eat out , even in these difficult and problematic times with the pandemic chaos they have held everything together.
Please remember to tip the staff if you can, they are well worth it
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐10/10

Had a lovely afternoon tea and prosecco 🥂 staff were lovely very helpful my friend and I had our very first afternoon tea about 7 years ago and wee have been returning ever since
C. B.
The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. French menu offering roast duck and other meats as well as vegetarian options. We booked online and used a Taste Card and got 2x1 in our meals.
S. C.
Ate here yesterday for pre theatre food. Food was tasty enough but we thought we had ordered starters instead of mains as portions were quite small. Not value for money.
Also objected to being asked if everything was good as the first mouthful passed my lips.

What a night myself and my husband had for our Golden Wedding thanks to chef Jamie Mac and William for arranging a beautiful and fabulous 6 course tasting menu for us, which actually turned in to 7 courses, from the start we were made to feel so special from sitting down with champagne waiting for us on the table to leaving,
The food was delicious as always and all the staff could not have done anymore for us it was an amazing night and ended with lovely card signed by the staff,
Thank you all

Food is delicious and absolutely recommend the food, especially the French onion soup and braised beef, and place itself is beautiful and friendly staff but the service can be very poor with the kitchen especially for a busy night. Table of four sat at 6.30pm and everything done by 8.45pm was shocking. Huge gabs inbetween starter and main. Although we appreciated deducting all the drinks off the bill which helped our cost and made your review 3 instead of 2, but we were almost late for our cinema showing which started at 8.30pm. Lucky theres 20 minutes of adverts! Dont go if you have a pre booked cinema date!

Very clean. Lovely helpful staff.
My order was a bit bespoke. I wanted a mix of stuff. No trouble. They catered for my every wish. I even got lots of extra maple syrup on request.
Presentation of food was very good too.
Highly recommended.
B. A.
Food and service was very good but the price of drinks too expensive!
C. M.
Me and my partner both had an outstanding 3 course meal. We've eaten in so many top restaurants in Glasgow and this definitely now one of our favourites. Our servers last night were absolutely amazing, the 1st one (Michael I think his name was) was very attentive and the second older one was absolutely amazing. Neither of us could believe just how bloody great he was. Second server was quick to sort out any problems and was just a great great guy. He definitely went above and beyond for us, I would most definitely return for his truly amazing service! Thank you very much for a great night!!!
P. S.
Horrific experience at Ardnamurchan. La Bonne stepped up and rescued an 18 person family night out without notice. Superb response, thank you.
T.
A traditional set up here. Pleasant helpful staff. My friend was delayed but there was no pressure or awkwardness. Moroccan spiced salmon was good and flavoursome as was the house French Onion soup. Nicely done. Washed down with a bottle of Cotes du Rhone by Jean Luc Colombo. Music not intrusive and of the place and time: French cafe chanson tunes, Charles Trenet etc.
***
A second visit 10 months later was less happy. There was no wine list or cocktails and my steak, though probably cooked as well as possible, wasn't very well-sourced. Staff, as ever, very friendly and helpful.
J. M.
Great service. Very attentive and well trained staff. Prices were very reasonable as well. Stay think.the portions are a bit small but I found them to be adequate.
G. C.
Nice bar restaurant across from concert hall on the cross roads junction.
The menu is short on choice but acceptable for pre theatre and portion sizes , the food is clean and very tasty which I mean prepared by a decent chef !
To add compliment to the chef I also have to compliment the table staff 👏👏👏👏👏 all three waiters/ waitresses
At last a restaurant that its staff use manners and decorum as well as table etiquettes, serve from the right etc and clearing table which is basic restaurant practices , I would happily eat and drink here again
M. O.
Portions are not huge but the quality of the food is excellent. Good service and quiet dining space.
J. S.
The food here was fantastic. We had thought we ordered something simple given the menu and its decent prices but was blown away when the food arrived. This place manages to take some classic dishes and adds some real elegance to them. Most importantly, it all tasted amazing.
Service was superb. The staff were super friendly and attentive. They managed to get our food to us with relatively little wait when we noticed we were running late for our cinema showing across the street. Thanks again LBA!
BTW, the calamari was top notch.
M. B.
Live going to this restaurant when in Glasgow just round the block from the theatre. Sometimes it's lunch and others it's dinner. Good is always good staff are very kind and helpful. Couldn't wish for more. Well worth a visit. Good value too. I'm
R. T.
In for a drink & some nibbles. Staff good and nibbles great 👍
E. K.
Friendly staff, clean cutlery. Although this is our first visit to Glasgow, I think La Bonne Auberge is one of the coolest restaurants around here.
I. M.
Dined many times food always spot on , staff excellent I do not need to travel to find good food it is at the hotel. Prices also very competitive
m. p.
Excellent service, and very accomadating considering we just walked in on a Friday night. Food was delicious could not fault it at all. Only downside was the table of two grown men and a women beside us cursing f words and the rest when we had two young children at the table..not the restaurants fault at all but slightly off putting.
L. E.
Was here on 14/12/21 for a pre theater meal with my mother .
French onion soup was delicious rich and slightly sweet and very filling.
I had the sea bass and it was to die for beautifully crispy skin all over and perfectly flaky tender flesh inside the cheddar mash and leek and sweetcorn sauce were the perfect accompaniment to the fish.
My mother had the beef bourguignon and it was beautifully rich and tender and such silky smooth mash alongside .
Excellent service such polite and attentive staff and a very enjoyable ambiance .
Will definitely need to find an excuse to visit again
C. C.
In here nearly every Saturday just like the staff and the complete ease of having lunch with no hassle
C. O.
Me and my boyfriend were in Glasgow for the Christmas Market yesterday and we thought to try this brasserie. The food was really good, we had bruschetta, chicken and duck breast. We were easily accommodated as we didn't have a booking. I recommend to try this place.
M. H.
Had a great time. Sat for hours with a friend just blethering with no one annoying us to order something more. Food good but dessert menu not as offered. How can you advertise Raspberry white cream stuff and be given cherries? Dont like cherries. Staff great. Yes i would still go back again.
S. 0.
Had a lovely mean for my Daughters 21st.
Our server Neil was so helpfull and accommodating.
Food was very nice and my daughter loved the champagne and her birthday song.
If there were 6 stars i would leave that for my review, Neil made it very special for us, so Thanks Neil
👍👍👍
S. B.
Great meal was with a group so a bit slow meal was good but soup was cold everything was great maybe a bit busy can't complain had a good night would go back maybe when quieter.
A. R.
Food delicious, atmosphere relaxed, I stayed 3 nights, feel the better of it Eva, Emma, Lloyd and others went that extra mile, all very good.
D. L.
La Bonne Auberge used to be one of my favourite restaurants, however, I think we may have visited for the last time. The food and service in La Bonne Auberge used to be exceptional. On this visit, however, both were poor.
The service felt impersonal and lacked the standard that you would expect of a high quality restaurant - and that you used to receive.
Correcting a drinks order that was taken incorrectly was very much seen as a hassle, despite this having been their mistake. There also seemed to be a lack of care or attention, and I'm unclear if staff had a particular knowledge of the dishes on the menu, but it certainly did not seem so. I don't know if all of this is down to restaurant budgets, and they now regularly use agency staff, but whatever it is, the service really should be better.
The food was also a disappointment. I've previously had some of the best meals I've enjoyed in Glasgow at La Bonne Auberge over the last 20 years, however, the food on this visit was average at best, and is the main reason we will be unlikely to look to go back. The menu itself comes across as slightly dated - which is fine, as long as the food is of an exceptionally high standard. It was not. Only the starters that our group had were of the standard that we expected, the mains were all very average, and the desserts were, on the whole quite poor, which led us to question how much of them was made from scratch, and how much was frozen components.
Overall the experience was poor, and topped off by the fact that we were placed at a table in the conservatory which they had earmarked for a promotion, and which was setting up as we dined, and starting as we finished. Why we weren't sat elsewhere was another thing which boggled the mind. Adieu La Bonne Auberge, it was nice while it lasted.
M. R.
Dropped in yesterday for the first time since lockdown and was reassured by the social distancing measures in place. Enjoyed a tasty lunch ( bacon burger and Tortelloni options), drinks and coffees. Niamh was a great ambassador for La Bonne Auberge and welcomed us with warmth and professionalism. Service was first class and will return soon.
l. e.
Lovely restaurant, great food (desert was tasty) and cocktails, friendly staff, great service, maybe best to pre book as can be busy and will have to wait for seat though the lounge is lovely to have a nice cocktail while you wait.
M. M. (.
Very enjoyable two courses at a private function. Foyer for drinks very pleasant.
B. D.
Very nice, lovely fresh sandwiches and scones, but the online picture did not reflect the selection on the day. Staff very attentive.
M. D.
Been a couple of times now with my dad & have been left dissapointed by the quality of small snacks, we have been served snacks that are still frozen , buy fresh if possible ! staff are really helpful though & nothing is a bother,
c. c.
Great breakfast served by friendly helpful staff
J. M.
The food was perfect, staff very welcoming and attentive, thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
G. F.
Went to this lovely place last night and thought it was really nice. I had the fish starter and let's just say it wasn't Poisson! The other half had chicken liver pate which was exquisite. For the mains I had bacon loin which was lovely too and the chicken my partner had was nicely done with lemon and herbs. The wine list was good - we opted for the malbec. Staff were excellent - friendly, helpful but not overbearing. Only one criticism: I didn't feel the menu was especially French. Definitely go back though.
H. H.
What a lovely evening! Excellent food, piping hot, good choice of dishes and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Really pleasant and attentive.
S. J.
Nice head waitresses very charming attentive and some of the waitresses very caring. Meals nothing special and quite a wait between courses. Gave the staff a good tip on leaving.
D. M.
Good good. Good service. Place needs a good clean though.
M. A.
Wonderful food. We had the 2 course prix fixe menu...everything delicious, and great value. Lovely attentive staff.
S. C.
The afternoon tea was perfect. It was served with a French twist in that there were no sandwiches but small quiche and Croque monsieur. The scones were fresh and served with butter and jam. Small cakes were served too and they were delicious. Light and easy to eat. The staff were lovely and really helpful and attentive. This was well worth the visit.
S.
My husband +I were here for a meal on Sunday before concert nearby.
We chose from the fixed price menu of 2 courses for £18.95. I had the mushroom risotto and my other half had the pan fried chicken breast in a butter sauce with mash. For the desserts we had a rum baba and a beautiful gateaux. The service is slightly slow and didn't remember the jug of water + glasses which I think is important every time.
m. m.
Afternoon tea here it was lovely and staff were very polite and courteous especially the two young men would go back
S. E.
We took a chance on there being a table available on a Sunday, pre concert. Luckily they did and we we're not disappointed.
A good pre theatre menu deal, with enough choice to find something you like, rather than a limited choice pushing you towards the full menu.
Cajun fish was perfectly cooked, with a nice proportion of fish and vegetables (spuds needed a little longer). Not enough Cajun spice for me, but it was nice to move from a plain fish dish. Steak with chips in a peppercorn sauce for my partner and not a morsel was left on either plate.
Meringue and Sticky Toffee pudding to follow and no complaints at all. Great portion size and very tasty.
The wine and drink selection was good, with good and friendly service. Perfect if you're heading somewhere close by.
We also popped back in later for a drink at the bar and cannot fault the service and friendliness of the staff.
Visited January 2017

Popped in here this evening for drinks before catching bus home.
Staff were so lovely, loved the decor. The Sauvignon Blanc was very nice and when the server brought my Mums tea over with a piece of tablet, I joked about getting a piece with my wine. He was so nice and brought me a couple of bits. Will defo be back, not just for the tablet though, would love to try the food.
M. M.
A ittle disappointed with the slow service. Only one bartender on the evening we were there. Waitress very pleasant and working under pressure. There was a large concert at the Concert Hall that Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was full. Extra staff would have been more than useful
L. M.
Casual Brasserie Dining, authentically French. Popped in to meet someone and just had tea today. Lovely service and decent sized pot of tea. Able to charge up my phone. Immaculate Loos too. Handy for Buchanan St Bus Station and Buchanan Galleries.
A. D.
Nice staff. Afternoon tea recommend as well as their fish n chips.
K. C.
Convenienty located next to the bus and coach station, I called in to the bar section whilst awaiting my connecting coach. The price for a pint was expensive at £5 but the interior wasn't the place you'd expect to pay any less. Very upmarket and a nice and relaxed atmosphere.
B. M.
The food was very good. This is the second time all 4 of us have been together but each time their bar has no tia maria. Tia maria is not an uncommon drink. If we do go back and there is no tia maria there's a good chance we wont be back which is such a pity
p. m.
Great service meal was first class so enjoyable would go back
I. G.
Really tasty food, and friendly staff, nice atmosphere, quite cozy. The French onion soup is amazing.
We were running late so asked them to speed up the delivery of the main meal while we were still eating starters and they were happy to help. Food is delicious and reasonably priced.
Right next to buchanan bus st and concert Square car park or a 10min walk to Central Station so easy for transport/parking etc... The website does say you get free parking in concert Square if you eat there however I only got 50% off. I will admit 50% is better than noting however that is not a major gripe. That is honestly the only reason why I havnt given 5 stars, if I could give half stars I would have gone 4.5.
G. R.
Food was good. Not very authentic if you are looking for french food. Onion soup was a bit salty and the bœuf bourguignon is not traditional french. The staff was friendly
K. M.
Had breakfast good value for money
P. H.
Booked for a family night drinks and food everything was perfect nice food and wine staff were fantastic 👏 👌
E. S.
I had my hen party here in the private dining area, the food was absolutely fantastic, so much so my grandmother wanted to book our family meal here to celebrate her 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Would definitely recommend La Bonne Auberge for any special occasion you may have.
A. C.
Lovely meal. Real shame they didn't have more customers, but suppose my visit was a Tuesday. We need to get out & about and support our restaurants.
C. W.
I've had two disappointing meals on my last two visits. The staff are smartly turned out and pleasant but are unfortunately rather incompetent. The prices suggest a really good standard of food but the reality doesn't match it. Appears to be living on a bygone reputation and needs to pull it's socks up.
E. W.
Lovely restaurant, lovely meal, staff very nice. It is connected to the Holiday Inn lovely stay, nice room, really nice complimentary coffee in the bar.
s. l.
Food was great will be back soon and a lot more special thanks to lovely staff very welcoming.
J. B.
Events facilities were fantastic for a wedding and the food was excellent quality for catering for 60 people. The staff were so friendly, helpful and great at responding to all my questions.
N. G.
Great place in the heart of the theatre district. Service was good, food tasty. The only thing - the wine wasn't chilled. We were offered a different wine, which was also unchilled.
e. a.
French restaurant near Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow. Excellent food and good service. Wide selection of wines. Ideal choice for pre theatre dinner as it's opposite Royal Concert Hall. Booking recommended as it gets busy.
B. H. H.
Very friendly. I left part of my scone and they were very concerned that I didn't like it but I explained I had just had breakfast and couldn't manage the rest.
D. P.
They offer a fantastic well priced pre-theatre meal, not much choice but the flavour is great. Their portion sizes are quite small though. As part of their pre-theatre deal they'll also validate your parking ticket so you don't need to pay the £3 parking round the corner. If you're heading over to the Kings Theatre they'll even order a taxi for you to be there in time for the show!
They tend to have a lot of various meal deals on though some can be a bit pricey. Though their portion sizes are small the quality of the food is high and makes it well worth a few visits.
If I want to treat someone to good quality food this place is in my top 10 for Glasgow.
G.
Hadn't booked but the lovely maitre d' got a table in 5 mins so we had a drink at the bar. Food and wine was very good and reasonably priced
I recommend the beef bourginion. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
W. E.
We had good service and good food at a reasonable price. Restaurant did well on providing information on gluten free options. Only criticism was that not much space between tables but a minor issue all things considered
A. R.
