Reviews of The Dapper Mongoose
F. M.
Staff was very nice and know the menu and ingredients very well. Food was cooked professionally and every plate is decorated with care. Review for each menu: 1. Haddock - nice portion and well cooked. I find it a bit bland, but my partner loved it. 2. Duck leg - SOFTEST duck leg I’ve ever had. The skin just slid right off and the meat was juicy and tender, but not falling apart like it’s overcooked. 3. Scallop - at first I thought £6.5 for one scallop was a bit pricy, but turns out it was so worth it. I’m a big fan of scallops and have been disappointed a lot by other places, but not here. The scallop was fresh and just perfectly cooked - not rubbery and burnt and not uncooked inside. The sauce and cucumber bits goes so nicely with it. 4. Chicken karage - my absolute favorite from this place. Chicken was super tender and not coated in thick batter. There was a lot of meat on the chicken bites. The soy sauce dip with egg yolk was unexpected, but goes so nicely with the chicken. 5. Sourdough with chicken liver parfait and butter with bacon and hazelnut bits - the bread was warm and had crusty and slightly salty side and was delicious. I love the butter with the bacon bits which adds a savory and lightly salted taste to it. The hazelnut bits are not hard or uncomfortable to chew as I expected. Butter was thick and creamy and didn’t melt at all. Overall, I would definitely be back to try out the rest of their menu ☺️

Really enjoyed The Dapper Mongoose every dish we tried was brilliant, particular mentions to the sourdough with chicken liver parfait and saffron butter, the citrus cured cod with wasabi cream, the tempura broccoli and the chicken thigh special with morcilla mousse. It's a small menu but there's a good mix of dishes the portions are generous and the price is fair. The staff are bang on and the cocktails are also good can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Extremely bloody good! If I'm honest I wasn't expecting much from this place, I only ever remember it as a bike shop but my my was I pleasantly surprised. Small menu but each dish (we had nearly half the menu) was full of flavour and delishious, especially the Lamb. Dishes come out as and when they are cooked by excellent serving staff who're friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. The menu apparently changes frequently and there are also daily specials. I will return.

Went for a rare child free birthday dinner and had such a wonderful time. Love the ambience, the staff are so friendly and the food and drink are incredible. We especially liked the sourdough with chicken liver parfait, scallops, and the masala hake. Oh and the espresso martini!

We enjoyed our dinner here! Lovely service and interesting dishes, some of them remarkably executed. Would highly recommended the burrata and the beef shin, delicious. Beautiful presentation on every plate is always a bonus. My only complaint would be that the octopus (specials board) was quite chewy (undercooked?). The menu is made up of 'snacks' and 'small plates', though the portions are bigger than your usual small plate.

All the food was delicious, interesting flavour combinations and cooked perfectly. Staff were friendly and attentive. They change their menu regularly so worth revisiting. Social distancing measures were adhered to and all staff wore face masks. Also, their hand sanitiser smelled lovely!

Absolutely delicious food here. Really interesting small plates. Service is al ats excellent. After living in Shawlands for 4 years we can say this is the best food you can get. Staff have always been very accomodating to us with a young baby.

This place serves the most well thought out, contemporary tasty dishes, presented beautifully in a smart yet unpretentious atmosphere. The food combinations and wines are great. The small plates are not quite as small as you would think, so remember to leave space for the lovely deserts. Service is prompt, and staff are very courteous and polite, explaining comprehensively the menu and ingredients. Not one to be missed if you are in the locale, and worth a short trip if you are not.

Hands down, the most beautiful, elegant and gorgeous place to eat in the Southside. Couldn't fault a single thing. Vegetarian small plate options were lush, wine was delish, vibe is superb. Sourbread was also to die for - kudos to Deanston Bakery. Thank you so much to Andrew and partner for such a high class experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Absolutely loved this place! Great vibe. Astoundingly good food. The pace of the small plates from the kitchen was great. Will save up and come again!

The staff were super friendly and helpful and all the food we had was delicious. The cocktails were great and our wine was lovely. We ordered the recommended 5-6 dishes between two of us, and honestly, I left still hungry. Small plates seems to be a trend that isn't going away and I've been to a number of places offering this type of menu. I think it's reasonable to consider that at least 2 people will share each plate, so when you get a spoonful of Orzo with 1 scallop, it feels a bit miserable portion wise. I was glad we ordered the chips on the side. I appreciate the work that goes into these dishes but for £11 I'd expect more than two mouthfuls of monkfish each. Essentially 5-6 small plates between two means you're paying approximately £25-£30 a head for a main course. Still 4 stars as can't fault the staff or the cooking, but portions could definitely be a bit more generous.

We ate here last night for our Anniversary. 1st time here. We were not disappointed. Food was lovely....fresh ,tasty just really very good. In particular tenderstem broccoli & truffle chips too. The guys were just lovely. chips

Delicious food, full of flavour. Perfect service, not too invasive but just the right amount of attentiveness. Their espresso martinis are so, so good! A lovely, relaxing dining experience.
G.
Superb, everything was extremely fresh. Amazing price for the quality of food being served. Nice touch at the end when the owner got a chat with us. Will be back in a hurry.
R. M.
Delicious food. Quirky atmosphere. Friendliest staff ever and very reasonable prices. Would definitely go back!

Outstanding meal on Saturday evening. The service was top class. Really looking forward to returning.

3rd time visiting here - every time it has been excellent. Carefully curated menu, friendly and attentive staff, great wine list (we know, we drank most of it!), not to mention beautifully decorated.
One of the best restaurants for evening dining in the southside.
A. P.
Had brunch, ordered a second one because it was so good. Had to waddle out the door! Friendly service as well will definitely go back!
S. M.
This place was utterly amazing. A true foodie experience in our lovely wee corner of Glasgow. The service was just exceptional and bar tender in particular elevated his trade beyond a profession and into the heady heights of a vocation! Never before have I ordered a whisky sour to then be presented with so many options and educated combinations to enhance the experience. The food was incredible, each dish an experience in itself and all packaged up in beautiful relaxed surroundings. Can’t that the team enough for an amazing night out. Look forward to seeing them soon.
E. B.
This was one of the most magical dining experiences I have had in a while. The service was second to none, the food was exquisite and sophisticated, the staff were charming and the restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere.
I highly recommend the dapper mongoose and I further recommend the tasting menu and maple old fashioned!
Do yourself the kindness of dining here.
D.
Great restaurant. Small plates. Mid range priced I think.
E. M.
My first visit to Dapper Mongoose but will definitely not be my last. The food is so tasteful, well presented and a treat for the taste buds. The staff were very friendly and the background music was very much to my taste. A great place to eat.

We ate here for the first time this week and it did not disappoint. Great food and service and an excellent drinks menu. The butter chicken dish in particular was amazing. Really well done to the whole team and the atmosphere was great despite all of the current restrictions. I would not hesitate to recommend them for a visit.

Fantastic meal. Amazing food and brilliant service, what more could we ask for? We had the scallop and the bread with the butter of the day and Pate. Both were delicious and very nicely presented. We shared the halloumi bao bun, pollack and beef rendang. All 3 dishes were cooked brilliantly and tasted great. Cannot wait to go back and see what else the menu has for us!
G. Y.
Andy and his produce amazing food, amazing drinks and just a superb night
L. F.
The food was amazing...The menu looks to change regularly but the sourdough with parfait and butter of the day was so good. Tempura broccoli so light and tasty, the scallop and cured cod dishes so delicious. Mouth watering just thinking back on it 🤤 Great little restaurant 👌
S. B.
Absolutely delicious!
Proper good nosh...delicious Scottish fusion tapas. Not too pricey.
Service was great.
C. B.
Amazing food! Service was excellent too. Sadly we felt quite uncomfortable at times because the staff took their masks off at the drinks bar (always hanging off ears) and through the back no masks at all. Made me think to question hygiene too based on this practice. I’d not be keen to go back based on this.
S. M.
Lovely staff and great food. Lamb and nduja with lentils was superb (pictured). Uses local bakery as well which is great
A. C.
Excellent service food delicious small plates great idea for trying different dishes can't wait to return.
J. C.
Simply stunning!! My new favourite restaurant. Food was 10/10 and staff were friendly.
N. M.
We absolutely love it here. The food is soo delicious and such a wonderful selection of small plates to choose from. It’s great to get to try a bit of everything! Last time we tried the fish taco special and it was amazing. Service is always fantastic too. Can’t wait to go again.
H. R.
The best restaurant in the Southside. Beautifully presented, delicious food. Attention and welcoming staff and a great atmosphere. Everyone should eat here.
A. W.
Excellent food, drinks and service! Cocktails were fantastic. You can tell the people behind this care about providing an excellent experience and sourcing high quality ingredients for their food. Highly recommended this gem in the southside.

Four of us had a wonderful Saturday evening at the Dapper Mongoose. We tried everything on the menu, and asked for more scallops and sour dough as we loved both so much! We tasted and shared every dish and it was a fabulous meal, the service was superb (shout out to Lewis) who could not have been more helpful and attentive! We will certainly be back, next time we are going to try the Brunch as the menu for that was mouthwatering. Loved the atmosphere , the owner Andrew was very welcoming, this is a fantastic addition to the Shawlands/Newlands area.
A.
Great new addition to Shawlands. Went tonight after seeing some really nice reviews on Facebook community pages and it really didn’t disappoint. The tempura broccoli is honestly amazing and the staff are lovely. They were happy to change a few things to make them veggie. We ordered LOADS to eat and a few drinks and thought they’d made a mistake with the bill because it was so cheap. Hope to be back soon.
A. M.
We’ve been meaning to try The Dapper Mongoose since it opened last month as it’s right across from our flat and we’re now gutted we didn’t try it sooner.
We ordered the chicken liver parfait, which came with an amazing garlic butter and warm freshly baked sourdough 💖 the venison with a delicious marmalade topped with hazelnuts, the hanger steak, the Parmesan truffle chips (without a doubt, the best chips I have ever had; perfect and crisp on the outside but fluffy on the inside) and the special bao bun of the day; burger bao. All followed by a dessert to share - the salted caramel tart (wish I’d ordered one each!!).
Every single dish that came out just got better and better, the venison was honestly the most tender and delicious I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection and the marmalade and hazelnuts were a delicious accompaniment.
We had booked for 7pm and left around 8.15pm and I’m so glad to say that the place was full from the minute we went in and by the time we left, the bar area was also full. Really hoping that this is a great sign considering it’s a Friday night in January when everyone is feeling the pinch after Christmas and/or is pledging their new healthy eating/dry January! I’d love nothing more than to be able to have some mezze and wine here for a long time to come and personally will be resolving to support more local businesses this year if eating out.
I would highly recommend anyone to give it a try - there’s something on that menu for everyone and the guys who work there are exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable on the dishes and products. Their fish dishes are all definitely locally and freshly sourced as some dishes has been swapped out for alternative fish which reaffirms that they’re sourcing quality fish fresh daily.
If nothing on the menu takes your fancy, they do a fabulous espresso martini on request 😍

Incredible sharing plates, staff were wonderful and very accomodating! Although it's sharing plates the plates are all decent sized to share amongst others. Great wine selection. Standouts were the deep fried broccoli and Tonka bean creme brulé. Would go back everyday if I could!
A. D.
So good to have the DM back!
Mr D and I shared the sourdough which was served with butter of the day (chorizo) and pate. As always it was delicious.
Hubby had haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce whilst I had the melt in the mouth beef shin rendang.
We decided to share the salted caramel desert. Exquisite. I'd forgotten hot big their small plates were, we were absolutely stuffed.
Good to see non alcoholic beers on the menu too.

Great new restaurant in Shawlands - the small plates are great to share amongst a group and are absolutely delicious. Professional, friendly and knowledgable staff helped with wine pairings. A great experience from beginning to end - we will be back!

Fantastic eatery in the Southside with chic decor, a cool vibe, friendly and helpful staff but most importantly sensational food at very reasonable prices. One of the best.

My favourite restaurant in Glasgow. They change the menu every few weeks, so every time the food is a little bit different, but always delicious.

Great new place for the quiet end of Shawlands. They are doing the small plates thing as well as anyone in the Southside. They have also made the interior very smart and comfortable and the staff were outstanding.

The food was incredible. The pistachio creme Brulee was the tastiest dessert I've ever had!

I love this place for its fabulous food but, unfortunately, the acoustics are just a bit off. The restaurant is too loud to hear people across the table from you. Its such a pity but it puts me off returning. If the noise level could be altered in anyway then that would make this a 5 star review.
