First time visiting this evening and was the best dining experience in years. Staff extremely attentive and knowledgeable on the menu, including how certain items on the menu are cooked, how they taste etc. Service very quick and consistent. The food was absolutely incredible on both presentation and taste, I was lost for words. Interior was very comfortable with a range of seating, atmosphere romantic and relaxing. Special mention to Paulo (manager, presumably) for looking after us so well for the entire evening and compliments to the chef for such lovely food. We will definitely be back soon.

We came here for a meal Saturday 11th dec 21. Super friendly staff . Fabulous food . Very lovely atmosphere felt like home . But unfortunately we had another visit Tuesday 1st march on a week night for my sisters birthday and sadly didn't get the same service. The one and only member of staff that seemed to be there didn't didn't even acknowledge we'd even walked in let alone ask if wed got a table. ( fair enough he was possibly short staffed, a nice hello be with you in a moment wouldn't of gone a miss.) I walked over to say hi we've got a table under the name of lisa. Only to be looked at no reply . Hugh. Did the waiter speak any English I wandered . after what seemed like forever stood at the door, the waiter walked across to a table ( still no eye contact ) and pulled two tables apart . because he'd never asked I'd not been given the chance to say was for four people. (Birthday girl was stuck in traffic ) . When I said sorry there is 4 of us he proceeded to put tables back together ( still no i contact) . and walked off, after 10mins sat waiting he brought 2 menus My sister ( birthday girl ) then showed up and we sat looking at 2 menus between all four of us . 20mins later still no drinks or even asked if we wanted any . ( again if hed just said I'm sorry I'm extremely busy il be with you a.s.a.p we would of thought differently) I walked across to the bar asking for more menus and asked if maybe we should order from the bar . He said il be across. Looking stressed. We all felt a little bit annoyed by his attitude an very stale manor ( did he think he was working in a mortuary? It rather Seemed like it . ) it sort of spoilt the night , my sister only booked there because of the lovely staff from December on my birthday so disappointed to say the least . I will add food was fabulous so compliments to the chef .the only reason for 4 stars.

I couldn’t fault if I tried, we’ve visited 3 times over the years and it’s always been a fabulous experience! We will definitely be back. One of our favourite places in Hull to enjoy a meal.

Extremely attentive, feel like you are the most important people in a busy restaurant. Food excellent, I have worked for many years in France and it feels like you are there. The food was fabulous and the service was too. I could not fault our experience. We had a very pleasent evening. We had the prawn starter and the mushroom starter followed by chicken and it was all beautifully fragrent, delicate and tasty. The service was first class. I would absolutely recommend Cognac and I will return.

The food was excellent but the service was not to my taste. The waiter was loud and continued to talk over our conversations. He was over tactical with his hands with customers (my wife) and I noticed the same with some of the younger female waitresses.

They dont have GF, dairy free menue Waiter was abrupt . The steak was not cooked as our liking ,but to say they offered refund on that as we didn't eat it. I like the music,though it was Italian ,weird for a French restaurant. Atmosphere was nice. Food well presented.

Very flavourful halibut plate and good deserts with excellent presentation. A good wine will not cost an arm and a leg, and the service is excellent. Previous review... Frites were floppy, but mussels marvelous. Best onion soup ever. Sure we will rate Cognac a five on our next visit. Service top notch. An authentic French atmosphere.

Been twice and both times the food was fantastic. Snails and steak are both incredibly well cooked. Very good red wine and the staff really look after you. I've been when it's been quiet (Tuesday evening) and on a weekend and found the food and service both to be top notch consistently. Creme brulee was cracking too! Highly recommend.

Been to this restaurant a few times and always a great experience and outstanding food. Just love the pork medallions. Today we did the eat out to help out with the discounted prices, but never ever begrudge paying FULL PRICE for this quality restaurant. I dont normally do dessert, I always go for a starter but today I had the banana crepe, it was to die for..cant wait to go again. See you very soon.

Went for a meal there on a quiet Tuesday. Two courses for £15 per person from a select menu is great value. Food was amazing: I tried the pate and the onion soup for starters and the pork with apple and brandy cream for main. The offer runs Tuesday till Thursday and select times at the weekend. I will definitely be returning!

We visited this lovely restaurant at lunchtime on a weekday. Excellent service by our Italian waiter (sorry forgot his name 🙃) We had the set menu, plenty of choice, and my son who is a regular tells me the various meals are all very good. I had crab cakes and a main of pork in apple and cognac sauce. We added a dessert, both had a drink and it cost us £30 each. Presentation was flawless and our waiter was very friendly. Will definitely visit again, highly recommended 👌

My fiance took me here for my birthday... and it was the best birthday ever! I dont ever remember us tipping, but this was such a good dining experience that we tipped almost as much as our meal costed! The staff was so attentive and friendly that we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. And the food was spectacular! Beautiful, incredibly tasty and super filling too. I was so full I couldn't even finish the lovely potatoes side. We will definitely be back and now have a new favourite spot for date nights!

Friendly attentive service, but, sadly, the food was not quite in the same league. My dish was blander than I had expected, and a fellow diner abandoned hers after a few mouthfuls. Wine was by the bottle, not glass, for our choice. It was good but £24.

Where do I even start? First step in, the atmosphere is so nice, the staff greets you so well. The starters came a bit slow but there were a lot of customers in, and they still complimented us with some bread and delicious olives. Then our starters came in and it was so nice. Then our mains came in, and I swear its like they have their own secret recipe because the sauces were absolutely delish! Then suddenly my partner asked me to marry him, and came to us complimentary 75s, and then the desert followed which was splendid. I think I just had one of the most memorable nights ever. Thank Cognac staff (and chef) for such a great service. Ps: extra kudos for the wine suggestion

Attentive, friendly staff. Ordered the mussels for the main and it was slightly disappointing unfortunately. The sauce was nice but the seafood itself was VERY salty (like they haven't been soaked long enough to get the sea salt out), it came with fries and not bread which would've been nice to soak/eat the sauce with. Went here for my son's birthday he'd been before. First time I'd been .the food was excellent and really relaxing atmosphere. Nice music playing in the background and the staff were excellent and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place and will definitely return. If you want to celebrate a special occasion. We visited for Mother's Day/My Mum's Birthday. Amazing quality food, very tasty! Great value for money. Restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff very warm, welcoming and attentive. A very nice little restaurant. Parking was a bit difficult during that evening, but service and food were great that night. I ordered the blue cheese steak and it was cooked to perfection. Very delicious food relative to the price. The Cognac restaurant is a small gem where each table has just enough space for each patron. Very convenient for couples who like being close to each other. The decor is pleasant to the eye and not cluttered. All of the food had nice presentation and very delicious. The manager (owner?) would ensure you had a nice experience and was very happy to receive any feedback about the food. I would give this place 5 stars, but there after some minor details that need looking into. The waitress who took our order clearly didn't know the menu. It would be good if more training was given to the staff. From my limited viewpoint, it looked like the manager was doing the bulk of the work and could get overwhelmed if multiple customers wanted his attention. Dessert and expresso was slightly cold. I had the impression that the delivery of dessert was some how delayed. The expresso was cold underneath and the crepe a bit soggy. As mentioned these are minor details, most of which could be resolved if the front of house staff were a more efficient/trained. Overall, I finished my meal there with a smile on my face and would definitely go again.

This spot is a rare gem in Hull. Really, genuinely good French cuisine, and without being pretentious enough to mark up the price just because they could, and people would still come. Eight of us had a selection of mains and starters, and each was so competently put together I couldn't believe the kitchen was able to plate it up so quickly. Service was highly attentive, very friendly without being overly familiar. Good wine list. It's out on its own at the end of Chants Ave - some enterprising individual should open a bar next door. Visited here tonight with a group of 13, the food was BEAUTIFUL and the restaurant is a lovely setting. Only down side I found was that only one waitress was working and she was so so busy (the restaurant was full) Luckily we had preordered but we were waiting for drinks and ended up not having a pudding as we were waiting too long for the menu! I will def be returning and hoping for more staff! The waitress did her best and must have been worn out!
