Reviews of Chestnut Tree Farm - Dining & Carvery
M. l.
Visited for breakfast on Saturday as a group of 6. It was 10:00 and there werre plenty of spare tables available.
The food quality from the buffet was average, but for the low price point you get what you pay for!
I can't comment on the service as we had very little interaction with the staff.
Overall we found it fine for a quick breakfast visit.
On a side note, the cakes in the display cabinet look amazing, so we'll probably return in the future to sample these!
J.
Absolutely brilliant place to eat.
The carvery was cooked perfectly, lots of choice, the venue is beautiful and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
The cakes - wow.
Really can't wait to return , highly recommended.

Service was friendly and prompt. Portions excellent and the food was delicious. Very fairly priced and ordering through the app was nice and easy! The pub itself is spacious and looks great, was very clean. Overall really impressed and thoroughly enjoyed dinner! Dessert portions were great and the cake/cheesecake slices are amazing!! Definitely going to share one next time!

Wonderful service and wonderful food.
Staff are friendly.
I have been a few times with the family and the play area for kids is such a big hit. The kids can go and play while you take a brake. They are in eye shot at all times too as the play area doesn’t have any high walls which can block your view.
The food has always been amazing. We usually order off the menu rather then order the Carvery. The food has never disappointed and always been fast from ordering to getting to the table.
The restaurant is a order at the bar service which is ideal in some cases as your not sitting there trying to flag down a rushed off there feet staff member. There is always staff at the bar so other then a small queue to place an order, its relatively fast and easy.
The fact the restaurant is almost split into 3 is also very good.
You have the family area at one end, a middle section for either older families and adults, and the other end for customers who only want to have a drink and not eat. This layout has made sure all are welcome which has made the atmosphere a happy, laughing, joyous one you can enjoy alone or with others.
I would recommend the Chestnut Tree Farm Restaurant to others as its a nice place to either just go and chill or as a meal out with the family.
Oh and one last note… the cakes are so good and you can take a slice away with you if you don’t have room to eat it there and then. Its worth picking one up to take home and enjoy as they really are good and not worth missing.

First time and DEFINITELY not the last. Fantastic value, good fresh food but the best bit was the staff. Kayla noticed straight away that one of our children wasn't happy that his burger had BBQ sauce on it. Being a typical mum, I said I'd just scrape it off. Kayla, said "don't worry, we'll change it for him" and just like that, it was done. Thank you so much for a really positive experience.

Had a Sunday carvery here. Was very happy with my meal. Good quality meat, lovely roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful also. I would advise pre-booking as we were turned away one Sunday as it was so busy. Went to the Mermaid instead which we weren’t happy with at all. I highly recommend this restaurant

Excellent evening of good food, 3 starters for £10, mushrooms, chicken strips and grilled cheese all with sweet chilli dip, followed by an 8oz medium rare steak with peppercorn sauce for the wife and the gammon grill +1 extra for me with extra mushrooms. And a lovely desert Plus drinks be all for a very good price, all cooked to a very good standard and quickly served, nice friendly staff, very clean also plenty of parking, will definetly return for another visit in the future

This a great place for taking the family out for a meal. Its got a great environment, with a child friendly zone and a quieter area for the adults up the other end. It has Very good variety on meals. Quality is of good standard as well as the cooking. Its not a michellin star if that is what you're after, but this beats a harvester in my books. The service here is amazing considering how many people there are in on a night.
There are toilets, disabled and baby changing. Everything is ground level so access is great.
In terms of price I was astonished at how cheap considering how good everything else here is.
C. M.
After trying the Chestnut Tree Farm, we have since eaten here several times recently. Each time the food has been of top quality and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and take the time to explain the ordering process. Certainly for two people, you couldn’t buy the ingredients for a roast dinner for the price of their carvery and there’s no washing up! 😋
H. L.
What a fantastic place to have dinner at! We was kindly greeted and shown to a table and I believe our waitresses name was Charlie...she was extremely helpful, friendly and polite. Offering her recommendations of what was popular to eat, we was also recommended a piece of cake which was huge and very delicious! Can't wait to come back again soon.

Having visited The Chestnut Tree in the past and found it failing in many areas and very below par food. We decided to give it a try on Sunday for a carvery. We were both extremely pleased with the quick way they found us a table (we hadn't booked) and the quality of the food, it was lovely and hot and ample vegetables all cooked perfectly. Well done to all the staff. We will be back.
D. L.
Managed to squeeze us in last minute during a busy period and still got our food out in good time despite have a party of 30 few tables over. Cant thank the team enough for the whole experience really enjoyed it. Highly recommend this place to anyone thinking of going
M. S.
Nice pub grub, Calvary options for those that want it, and a variety of seating both indoors and out. Handy kids corner for our little one to run around in while we wait.
We always use the app to order to our table, and the staff are always friendly.
A.
I’ve had so many good experiences at this pub. My meals have been amazing every time, the atmosphere has been great and i love the staff. Ian has especially been amazing and has made me feel very welcome. He has even sorted out a difficult last minute booking for a large number of people. Thank you so much for the amazing service I have had and will have for the years to come!!
L. P.
My partner and I have been coming to chesnut tree farm with our young children for some time now. They have a excellent play area for the kids giving the adults a chance to sit and relax. The staff at this restaurant are excellent, every time we visit we are made to feel welcome, we are always astounded by their speedy and efficient service. We would highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat or a drink!!!
L. B.
Me and my husband had a rib eye stake with chips onion rings mushrooms and peas. The most succulent stake we have had.The staff were so helpful and the the place itself was tastefully decorated. Well worth the prices.
M. W.
Good service. Had the carvery, superb. No pressure to leave or move on yummy selection of cakes. One serving easily does 2 people.
M. A.
Came here to celebrate nans birthday. Food was good quality and enjoyed by all with no complaints :-). Service was lovely with very friendly and helpful staff, even let us bring our own birthday cake. Many thanks :-)
M. D.
We have visited a few times before for family meals and this was by far the busiest we have known it to be. A potential disaster was averted by Liam on the Carvery who kept his cool with a customer delaying an already long queue with vegan requirements she had previously not declared; colleagues refusing to support him; and takeaway orders coming in.
Good food as always but this man deserves a special mention for going above and beyond.
A. L.
I'll give 5* to this place, as we have enjoyed the food there and also we've been treated very nice by some of the staff members.
*We had a bad experience with one staff members who was working at the till, after we had some confusion related to the breakfast that they served in one day but excluding that the rest was fantastic 🥰
L. W.
We booked a table by phone at 7.30 for 8pm. As this is a carvery restaurant we went for the reason of wanting a roast.
We were told there was no carvery left at all so we had to order other things .
Food was ok except for the chicken strips. It says salsa and toppings but it was just chicken strips on a pile of chips for a tenner!
S. G.
Have had really good experiences before at Chestnut Tree but had my birthday meal totally spoilt tonight as was refused a carvery as they had run out of vegetables. Ordered Lasagne that I had to return to be heated again as was cold in the middle. Then told no Knickerbocker glorys for dessert. Then asked for ice-cream and no Strawberry or bubble gum left either. Even given that it was Sunday evening and they said they were short staffed if this restaurant strives to give 100% satisfaction they have failed to be anywhere near that tonight. Staff were apologetic but will choose somewhere else to go for a birthday treat next time. Very disappointing.
D. E.
We have eaten in the Chestnut Tree many times. All the food is very well presented and is extremely good value for money. The staff are very helpful and efficient and seem to enjoy their customer service. One lady in particular, Charlie, is always smiley and very polite and will go above and beyond for her customers.
A. P.
Kieran was amazing from beginning to end. We had a family party of 14 including my 81 year old Dad. The food and service was absolutely excellent and we made lots of family memories. Thank you!!
M. H.
Each time we visit we have great food, great ale and great service. Most recently we were looked after by Charlie who was brilliant, she was very friendly and genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our visit.
b. d.
Fantastic value for money great to have PlayStation for the older children! Friendly helpful staff. Our new favourite pub!
A. B.
Wonderful spare of the minute meal out. Didn't have a table booked but found us one straight away. Food was super tasty and warm. Fantastic thank you all.
J. P. G.
Had breakfast there. The buffet was a little bit disorganised as there was some waiting around to be noticed by staff. However, the quality of food is good (with some good options away from the buffet) and the prices are good too.
L. J. W.
Came here for the first time today .Although there was only two sorts of meat on the carvery which is very disappointing as three should be available or a discount applied ... ,it was very good .
Couldn't fault it .staff were very friendly and helpful, and an amazing choice of deserts .
We will definitely return and definitely recommend .
S. M.
Excellent service . We hadn’t booked a table and the restaurant was busy but Mike went out of his way to get us seated within a couple of mins .
Also booked a large breakfast and Kieran was amazing . 2 excellent staff members .!
S. W.
Best Carvery within the northern hemisphere !!
Couldnt find any faults, even if i wanted too...
Ps, If you were to include Macaroni cheese into your carvery, you'd be the best within the southern hemisphere too !! lol...
As Arnold Schwarzenegger likes to say - I'LL BE BACK....
J. L.
Excellent carvery. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Very fair prices.
Brilliant all round.
S. Z.
Shout out to the waiter Keiron!! He made our dinning experience a pleasure...
Excellent with our kids. Made service quick and easy. Good sence of humour. Thank you Kerion
N. A.
Food was absolutely amazing! The service I received made me feel so welcome!
I’ll definitely be back to try some cake!
A. U.
Absolutely amazing service, excellent food including the carvery.
Excellent value for money.
Very friendly & helpful service!
M. B.
Excellent service: shown to table: ordered drinks and food from bar straight to carvery and chef cut meat and we help ourselves to vegetables etc very clean and tidy
M. W.
Was pleasantly surprised with food quality of the carvery. Veg overcooked but the rest was fresh and tasty. Good quality meats
t. t.
It was good for portion size our whole group of 10 had carvery. Good choice of veg. Gravy was lush, meat was perfect and tasty. To get a 5 star the Yorkshire's even though we big they we bland and cakey, and I wish when you order a pudding from the cake cabinet it actually looks like what I ordered. Will be returning
The first time returning after 2 years went for something different was a very good burger that came out quickly.
J. M.
Great food .
Big portions were large, good value for money.
Service was quick.
Would certainly go back
J. H.
Great service and food, we will definitely be going back, might try the desserts next time aswell, they looked amazing.
H. K.
Great Service From Mick! He was the best out of all the people there (no offence) but thanks so so so much for such a good experience!
G. B.
Ok experience. Ordered the Yorkie Wrap and they were out. My husband ordered wings and loaded chips. He said they were good. He also enjoyed a massive piece of cake! I will go again once they have ironed out all the kinks of being newly opened.
A. L.
Pleasant helpful staff. The food is plentiful and not too expensive and there is a good atmosphere.
I. A.
No food today but enjoyed a cheeky beer instead, great service from Farrah.
s. b.
Great staff very frendly and polite, food was ok typical carvery
m. b.
Had an amazing time at the chestnut tree! Our server Kieran was amazing and so friendly! Will definitely be coming back ;)
S. S.
We went for Sunday lunch, food was lovely, choice of four meats as well as three different potato dishes and several vegetable options. Best carvery I've had in a long time . So full decided to take some of there beautiful cake home so as not to miss out.
J. T.
My first visit to Chestnut Tree Farm and will definitely visit again. I had the standard carvery. The portion of meet was generous ( several types to choose from) and so many different vegetables to choose from. The staff with whom I came into contact with were all very friendly. They were very busy and having to refuse people who phoned hoping to have lunch there, so booking I would say, is advisable.
J. B. (.
Went over a week ago with a friend. On arrival staff complaining they were short staffed. Not a problem. But the staff publicly complained and discussed publicly issues with other staff.
Food affected as in carvery. Food good but vegetables were not great turkey was lovely.
One chef had no head covering and a bandana tied around his head. Not hygienic.
Manager not supporting staff.
Overall for carvery reasonable price for roast. Coffee machine broken. Not staff's fault it happens. Other Food off menu looked good.
Mermaid comparing both restaurants is the better option. Staff need to learn to not discuss issues at the bar or walk around complaining. On a good day I am sure very nice place.
J. D.
So friendly and clean very well stocked shop with quality products just about everything you need. The restaurant has a nice menu and the food is very good we all enjoyed our meal and the service was great nothing to much trouble. There is also a farm trail will be back.
k. b.
We visit the chestnut each week , and would like to say a huge thank you to one of the managers PAULA . she is always so kind , happy , and always has a smile on her face. We now go due to the atmosphere and the giggles . Please thank her for us . My friend had a heart attack and this is the only place she feels relaxed at . I don’t often leave reviews , but thought she deserved a huge THANK YOU.
K. D.
Food was good and cheap. Slow service though. Be aware that due to COVID-19 the menu is reduced but there's still plenty to choose from. The cakes are amazing! We'll go back just for the cakes/ cheesecakes.
C. H.
Lovely time with friends having lunch x food was delicious and there was a lot of it x biggest cakes I've ever seen and the ice cream was delicious. Definitely going back for more 😋
J. B.
First time there. Plenty of free parking.
Warm, sunny day so we sat outside.
We both had a Ploughman's lunch, which was rather expensive and sadly was not my idea of a good Ploughman's.
I wouldn't eat there again.
T. B.
Went in to Chestnut Tree Farm last week for lunch and they did not disappoint. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, I used the app to order and it’s really easy to use. I ordered the ploughman’s and it was delicious… the bread was warm and tasted amazing and the ham was carved freshly from the Carvery. I couldn’t finish it all so I took the rest home. I also have to mention the the cakes… wow… they are gigantic! I didn’t have piece this time but I have had a cake-away before and they are always delicious.
Thank you for a lovely meal chestnut… I will be back soon 😃
T. M.
Fine place to eat. Great prices for massive sizes. Friendly staff (Mark and Mick made us spend more than estimated). 5/5 would recommend.
C. G.
Lovely pub/restaurant. Nice food & staff are very friendly & accommodate the people I support very well. Have been a few times. Would recommend.
l. p.
Lovely food and great service from our waitress Charlie. We have never had a more friendly and happy waitress. Great Job!
s. w.
Good value for money carvery but waited far to long at bar to be served whilst another family decided what ice cream to have at the expense of everyone else (needed other staff to support but they didn't).
J. C.
Good food friendly atmosphere and our server called annie was very nice
H. J.
Love and relaxed dining
Staff very nice
We had an all day power cut the pub was really busy but they found us a table so we could eat
Beautiful food can't thank you enough we will definitely be back soon
S. S.
Very good we were greeted as soon as we walked in seated and had it explained we could use the app to order our food and drink which we did both the drink and then the food arrived quickly which our meals were hot and very fresh and we enjoyed our lunch very much
M. W.
The Chestnut Tree Pub is the best place in Ipswich to go for a roast dinner the food as always is delicious has been for the last four years since it opened and I recommend the Chestnut Tree Pub to anyone who's likes roast dinners.
H. S.
Does what it says on the sign. Nothing too exciting but the food was good, staff friendly and plenty of parking
c. g.
Just had a really good carvery meal, Jordan was very helpful fantastic customer service and it’s even his first day, top man 👍
V. M.
Been here three or four times, nice atmosphere, food good. Easy to find the restaurant and access it. Nice place.
R. H.
Absolutely thrilled after having a works due here. Food was great and service was friendly and to top it off the bill wasn't to bad either
T. R.
Excellent food and plenty of it and the staff were brilliant thank you
G. G.
Good food at an affordable price. Good range of beers and wine's. Attentive staff.
S. E.
Would 100% recommend, Mark and the staff have turned a complicated experience into and incredible one. I really wanna thank them for a great birthday.
S. H.
We all had a great afternoon, the food was fab, service was excellent and we all enjoyed ourselves.
L. Y.
Wouldn't rush back it wasn't the best carvery, seemed pretty poor compared to other I've had
G. H.
The saving graces for Chestnut Tree Farm is the price and the fact that one can charge your electric vehicle (EV) there free.
At £4.49 for an all you can eat breakfast with a bottomless pot of coffee and fresh toast, I don't think you can beat the price in Ipswich and their buffet lunches, too, are well priced.
The breakfast is edible let down a bit by rubbery fried eggs and what appears to be scrambled egg made with powdered eggs.
The bacon is usually decent as is the black pudding, hash browns and button mushrooms. The sausages tend to be a bit dry on the ends. As I said £4.49 and edible.
I have had the buffet lunch there on a few occasions and it has been the same each time.
The roast meats were pork (sadly no crackling!), gammon, beef and turkey. Vegetables consisted of mash, roast and boiled potatoes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower as well as others.
Prices start at £4.99, depending on the size of the plate, up to £9.99.
Again good value and edible.
The buffet is rather badly designed, as a result the 'chef' doing the carving was trapped in a hot area dripping sweat and continually having to stop and wipe himself down.
Would be more hygienic if they sliced the meat on a slicer which would also speed up service.
The food is generally edible, based on quantity not quality but breakfast, starting at £4.49 great value.
Being roughly 90 miles from London it is the ideal place to stop and charge your EV whilst you have a meal. The charge bays are generally not blocked by fossil fuel vehicles (not ICE'd).
Great place to visit on a limited budget and get a free charge for your EV!
21st February 2019
The food offerings at breakfast have improved. The scrambled egg in particular!
Also be aware that you should register your vehicle in the carpark or be subject to a carpark charge. People have been using the or car park as sports car parks as well as overflow for Aldi.
The electric vehicle chargers were down for a few weeks but are now up and working fine.
Had a pleasant lunch & car charge!
7th April 2019
There are now signs up indicating that the bays by the EV chargepoint are charging bays! Well done management!
Had my usual Sunday breakfast and bought a chocolate éclair to take away. It was £4.79 but was huge, a foot long plus! Filled with fresh whipped cream & custard & topped with chocolate, it will be dessert for 3 meals, and is delicious!
21st April 2019
You no longer need to register your vehicle registration number to avoid a fine. It was introduced to prevent people parking there that weren't restaurant customers (they were visiting either Aldi or the nearby sorts field!)
R. B.
Nice big pub and carvery . Wheel chair friendly and good choice of drinks and menu .. ample parking..
C. C.
came in for a meal, and staff were so welcoming and food was very good and very funny made my absolute day
S. C.
Great place to get together family/friends for meal, very spacious pub , great menu and carvery . 4 generations met for birthday celebrations ranging from 2 years -80 and all happy ! Well done will definitely return for a slice of the massive cake , they look amazing.
N. B.
The food was okay, in fact the Turkey 🦃 I had was delicious. Good veg too. However, staff training clearly needs to be sorted. There was a lot of loud talk about bookings which kinda made me feel in the way... almost a bit of a nuisance. There was also a lot of talk about shifts and who was due to work and when. Staff were also eating meals front of house...a real no no in my book. It also took quite a few minutes for the carvery chef to appear after a bit of shouting. It all gave an impression of an unprofessional team. It has to be said, you never see this in a 'Spoons......
M. W.
Was a very nice place to dine, and can recommend the Carvery
S. B.
Nice food although they under cooked veg. Cake good, queues terrible. Parking fine, plenty of seats. Price reasonable.
G. D.
Best salad I've had in a long time ,,, even brought a little pot of salad dressing out to see if I wanted it on the salad defo come back
S. F.
Friendly, attentive service. Ordered by the app, drink's appeared before we'd finished ordering the food. The food arrived quickly and was hot, generously portioned & full of flavour, the Eton Mess was sumptuous. We bought some slice's of cake to take home, which are huge. Children are welcomed & have a special area to sit & a kid's menu. There's also a reasonably vegan menu. Will definitely be returning
A. D.
Busy lunchtime. Great carvery, loads of choice and good portions. Cakes are huge and taste great, though you have to get Cakeaway as you're too full after lunch. Excellent value for money.
A. B.
Such a lovely place, staff warm, friendly, polite. Food good. Just gutted they don't do large booking on a Sunday. Was going there for my 60th birthday with my family. Now gutted!!
L. C.
Great place to visit for a carvery. Food is really reasonably priced and always tastes good. Good selection of veg to go on the carvery, roast potatoes always amazing. It can be difficult piling as much as physically possible onto your plate without losing an edible item or two before returning to your seat and that's before you have to complete the challenge of walking back to your table without spilling the lashings of gravy all over yourself or the floor. If you manage to complete these tasks and not drop your plate that now weighs the same as a small child before you get to sit down then you my friends are all winners and you shall be rewarded with a fabulous meal.
M. G.
Great food, amazing value for money, really big portions. Very friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed and chilled atmosphere. Will be coming back for my birthday in February. Easy 5 stars.
Deserts look amazing (we bought 5) but was so full we will have them tomorrow
t.
Came in for first time in ages greeted by nice lady in glasses went up to bar the barman was a little abrupt not very enthusiastic about working there possibly having a bad day. Don't think he smiled once lol 😆 that aside food was very nice come along way since it first opened the meat was tasty roasted potato's were lovely crispy outside and fluffy inside. Wasn't an awful lot of veggies on offer the Brussels were a bit crunchy could of been boiled more but there again people like them that way so. I did forget my pigs on blankets and a helpful young lady did get them for me when I asked her. The pub was warm and spacious overall it was a good visit if I could offer some advise being a former publican please tell your barman to smile and be a little more enthusiastic other than that as Arnie says ILL BE BACK. Out of ten I'll award a generous 6.5 out of ten
L. B.
First time today I had eaten here food was lovely Will definitely be coming back
J. B.
Decent place to have a meal, affordable prices I'm my opinion, big carpark, staff is very polite too. We did wait a lot for our meal so waitress did ask us if we had our meal, we said not yet and she went into a kitchen to find out why...I booked table for a same day for 7pm. Don't remember our first visit much but on this one children were bit loud....
J. K.
Lovely food, friendly staff, but very very slow service to order food, drinks, desserts etc. Needs more organisation with queuing. Like one queue for drinks, one for food orders. Might make things more easier. Especially as I am a disabled customer. I can't wait in a queue for too long. Other than that, the food is fabulous. I had the Grilled Sea Bass, on a bed of crushed baby potatoes. It was beautiful as you can see. I think as this venue hasn't been open very long. It's probably teething problems. I will go back again soon.
P. C.
It was quite nice, friendly staff loads of parking reasonably priced. We had the carvery, I liked it. The cake desserts are ridiculous- literally enough for about 4 people. Lush!! Don't tell my dieting friends....
M. M.
Love this place. The staff are friendly and helpful. Menus are on tables and ordering is at the bar. Food is delivered quickly and very well presented with plenty of it. There is also a carvery. With a large car park which also has charging points and with outside tables for when it's warm this pub has it all.
A. S. (.
Big building with a big menu. As now typically found on the outskirts of towns, these jumbo sized buildings that expand on the classic pub or carvery. With the classic 70s carpet and wooden interior, large wrap around bar in the middle and chalk boards scattering the walls.
We had booked a birthday group of 7 and ended up being sat on a table for 18 directly next to the kids play area. The table and chairs were all sticky and covered in salt, very similar to the large laminated menus covered in what we assumed was gravy...
There's a large variety on the menu with varying prices for weekends and bank holidays, so if you're on a budget, go midweek. They also cater well for young ones.
Ordered meals are of a good size and have enough variety to suit most, just expect the quality of a mass cooked pub kitchen. The carvery had four meats and a selection of veg, gravy and sauces to choose from. A wide variety of drinks with a standard smattering of draught and bottled drinks.
As is now common with distancing measures, you can order from the table or up at the bar.
Saving it from 2 stars and keeping it at 3 was the fact that the facilities were clean and well maintained and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are also tables outside with parasols and a big car park.
With its size, it's suited for large groups and families looking for a cheap and easy midweek meal.
M. G.
Excellent venue, decent food, good staff

Food was amazing but had what a long time but with most places they are short on staff so we didn't mind the wait.😊👍
D. S.
Mothers day carvery and it was lovely. Best carvery i have had for a long time. Staff were great. Thank you.
I. J. (.
Great place to eat for the family. Good carvery nice food
b. s.
Pick the pub solely on location just off the A12/A14 junction.
Friendly staff, looked clean and tidy and fresh.
As for pride point meal and drinks were reasonable.
However....
Unfortunately the carvery was not the best it was edable but was dry as it had been sitting under heat lamps for a while. We were disappointed and would find a different place to stop on our way home next time.
The food that was cooked to order that was coming out for other dinners looked very nice .
A. T.
Big portions, not expensive. Children's area can get way too noisy with all the families. Pretty overwhelming place tbh but good if you like that and people I guess. So many food options and large and small kids options too which was nice. Definitely a decent place for a family meal but not somewhere I would personally chose to go unless it was a quieter time and not bring a child so I can sit in a quieter area 😂
Oh the bbq burnt end toppers!! So good!
n. s.
Lovely food and the staff are always polite especially paula :-), it's the only place we will eat out at
L.
Good portions and decent food. Kids area is OK but lots of claw and plastic toy machines. Older kids of other patrons did make it a bit tricky with some aggressive behaviour. Service is good even when staffing has been affected. Lemon curd sorbet is the kiddos fave. If you are veggie or vegan there are nice options too. Would definitely go back.
P. G.
Food was amazing best i ever so far we went at 5.30pm
S. H.
We visit Chestnuts for a relaxed Breakfast regularly. A great way to start your day
A. C.
Always a great food and plenty of carvery selection.
d. w.
Excellent service and food. Although once again very noisy. Not the place for a romantic meal!
C. M.
Family friendly, great choice of 4 meats (on our visit pork, beef, turkey, gammon) only slight issue was the vegetables over cooked and slightly slow service even tho it was busy and loads of staff around. The desserts have an selection of ice cream or massive cake slices, can please both adults and kids.
Included in the kids roast was ice-cream but only 3 choices of flavours which caused a problem as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry..... And yet in the display was choc chip, bubblegum, various others (make sure you ask at counter tho)
B. R.
Food is always great here and staff always friendly and helpful. The cakes are the best!
J. T.
Just want to say how amazing the staff were today, my wife was having a drink with her friend and there was an incident in the soft play area where my child was hurt by an unsupervised child which lead to my wife being threatened.
The staff were great and made sure my wife was okay and moved them them to a quiet area, good job I wasn't there myself at the time of the incident.
Thank you very much chestnut tree farm Ipswich will be back again soon.
T. P.
Great food and good quality, customer service is very friendly, love it
C. P.
First time at this farmhouse Inn pub helpful staff good choice of food and a all day carvery what's not to like. And the biggest cakes and ice cream lovely.
S.
Hadn't been for a while, so it was a nice change to go and had a lovely carvery.. But the gorgeous dessert had to take home and enjoy with a glass of wine later.. Staff were friendly
G. J.
Excellent food, pleasant staff and great value!
G. A.
Food was good for the price paid, service a bit slow using the APP
K. S.
Wow what can I say, absolutely first class service and first class food, I have not been disappointed yet. Keep up the great work.
N. G.
Excellent from start to finish. Staff are so friendly and attentive, everyone in our party loved their food and drinks, so much choice in the carvery and the kids didn't want to come out of the play area. Well done Chestnut Tree Farm!
m. w.
Reasonable food. Friendly staff. Not much meat on the steak and ale pie. Should be renamed the Gravy pie, but it was still tasty. The app was easy to navjgate but the payment system didn't work either so had to order at the bar after all, so all in all an OK visit.
M. H.
Lovely food and the staff were friendly and helpful
I. W.
Had booking but name was not taken, just shown to table. Had to go to bar to order as app not working. Staff pleasant and helpful, food came in good time, hot and plentiful. Prices very reasonable. Check backs and table clearing good.
s. h.
Another wonderful visit today.22.11.21. again, wonderful food, service + afternoon catch up with friend..although it was full, staff were polite, efficient + professional. we were not rushed or hassled to move on once finished, + spacing around tables gave ample room so we didn't feel hemmed in.Great food service + value, + clean surroundings + facilities. THANKYOU from table 53 see you again soon
P. M.
Can vary on food quality. Recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment.
T. D.
Lovely meal sizes weren't explained well so you only need a standard large if you are a big eater
A. K.
Lovely Sunday lunch and a massive piece of cake to take away will be back soon
b. d.
Amazing place and excellent service from Mick. Was a great evening out
P. G.
Very nice pub indeed food and drink superb atmosphere excellent
T. B.
I popped in for a lunchtime weekday carvery recently and found it to be very good value. The staff serve it all for you due to Covid restrictions, which was fine by me and I got plenty of food. My only complaints are that the Yorkshire was very hard and dried out and parsnips a little too charred. I may visit again for some of that nice looking cake or a fish finger sandwich.
J. L.
Great food and service at very reasonable prices, friendly staff which are happy to help
R. B.
We had to wait a little for the carvery due to Covid restrictions. But we'll worth it. Food was wonderful, staff wonderful helpful.
Thank you.
M. G.
Ordered food about a month ago went we arrived they said they haven't got it so I ordered something else didn't have it either so had hardly anything not good enough
I. F.
First time visit and I wont be in a rush to go back.
First the positive:
They were kind enough to find us a table even though we had not booked.
The food was plentiful
Staff seemed friendly especially the guys behind the carvery.
Reasonable price
The Negative :
OMG the queue for the carvery is terrible ( not a great idea to stop serving customers to fulfill takeaway orders )
Food was plentiful but cooking was a bit hit and miss, didnt have the Gammon as it looked under cooked and the veg was very stewed ( Had the beef and turkey which was tasty )
Some of the staff seemed very inexperienced and lacking leadership.
Come on Green king get your act together , maybe visit Wetherspoons in your Home town Bury st Edmunds to pick up some hints
M. J.
Absolutely brilliant will definitely come back staff friendly and helpful well done food was really good
E. M.
First time returning since the re-open this week. Very well organised, the place is spotlessly clean, all the staff are very clued up as to what they should be doing and can easily explain how to stay safe during your visit. Ordering and paying on the app was incredibly easy and quick.
Food portions seem to have grown! I always forgot the value for money you get here and inevitably order too much.
Summer was our server and was very polite and helpful.
Didn't have carvery but that seemed well planned too.
We went at 5pm on a Wednesday, and it was very quiet, filling up a bit more by the time we left.
J. W.
The staff were very helpful and the food was good
L. R.
Normally really like this place, recently found it a little disappointing due to not being able to serve my own carvery because of social distancing. We opted to do a takeaway carvery and so didn't get as much of the things we wanted as we would have liked, but it was still good food all the same and I'll always keep going back. They do get very busy at peak times, so either try and go at other times or expect a wait or to be turned away. Staff are always friendly and informative, and their selection of deserts/cakes is awesome.
M. H.
My 1st visit for breakfast, very well run restaurant with attentive staff. Covid restrictions are well laid out to minimise stress and risk to both staff and customers. Food was to a good standard, while the building is modern it felt slightly dated design.
Overall very pleased with the experience and will go back to try the carvery.
P. E.
Food excellent, staff very friendly and professional.Good experience all round Thank You.
l. e.
This is a great place to eat if you like carvery or they have a very good menu too. But the best thing are the signature cakes which are the biggest slices of cake I have ever seen and had. After a day out or just for Sunday lunch this is a go to place
c. g.
Nice bar, polite staff, food is excellent. Try the cakeaway, to die for
P. R.
A first visit and we will certainly return, we had a carvery and it's the best we have had in the area, fantastic gravy.
N. C.
Omg, the carvery was soo delicious and staff so friendly
S. B.
The best staff, tasty food & delicious cakes! I'm always excited to go in for food! Smiley Happy staff! (Especially Paula, Jordan & Tanya) Would Highley recommend !
J. H.
Great food... good portions. Kids enjoyed it.
S. P.
Gravy was a bit weak and mash potatoes a funny colour and tasteless apart from that it was OK 👍
T. B.
Food was lovely ,very friendly staff, good size portions .
S. H.
Never had a bad meal here and now the breakfast is all you can eat, they can easily rival Toby carvery.
P. R.
Myself, my daughter and her partner, had a great experience today, i had the carvery which was amazing,
Great food, great service, very friendly helpful staff and great value for money, what more could you ask for. We will definitely be back for more, i highly recommend it too everyone.
R. S.
Very good and well priced pub. Big portions and massive cakes! Ordering very easy with the Green King app.
A. S.
Good value food. Nice friendly staff!
F. D.
Very polite and friendly staff. Good food. 👍
S. A.
Had some lovely grazers. They were fresh and really tasty and came out so quick. Staff are friendly.
I. D. (. D.
Food is very good, the service not so much. The waitress was a killjoy, young and couldn't be bothered. We have ordered online as suggested, all she had to do is put food on the table. Smile and good manners would be appreciated! Only due to service we won't come back.
b.
What a fantastic welcome from the staff. Polite open and friendly. Very helpful at the bar and explained things very well. Carvery was brilliant and there was plenty of other choices off the menu. My sirloin steak was cooked to perfection. The place is clean and tidy. Didn't feel rushed pudding was delicious
Would highly recommend this place. A***
M. E.
Always a great experience, been twice in 2 days, very very busy Friday night but staff were doing a great job keeping things running. Saturday night not as busy, professional welcome from Ian who I can only assume is a manager, great table service from our waiter Michael. Received help from a lovely chap called Mark with the greeneking app, Crazy grey and black haired woman dancing around making us smile. Food was great and cleaning was was being done throughout our whole stay. Will definitely be back.
L. R.
Mick was very happy and helpful we use this place alot be back soon
F. D. (.
can not fault this place good service value for money
T. O.
Really lovely place to eat and the food was good too
M. A.
Very nice place to eat and food was fantastic
L. R.
My first time at the Chestnut Farm pub. Very impressed, staff very polite & friendly. Had the Sunday Roast, excellent. I shall be coming back.
J. P.
Came her for a carvery . Excellent value. Loved it . Eight of us. Good service .
R. S.
Staff are very welcoming every time, breakfast is great value and the all day carvery is a must... don't forget about the rest of the menu though as there's some really nice meals!! The pub itself is brilliant with plenty of room and a family area where you can relax whilst the kids play. Thanks to Tanya for looking after us on our last visit and can't wait until our next meal out. Thanks Chestnut Tree :)
M. M.
Lovely staff very friendly. The roast was excellent even the beef was not too much over cooked (still just a hint of pink)
H. B.
A real shame to update with a new, less than desirable experience as I have previously been here with no complaints or issues for food, service or price. On 2 separate occasions in this month they have gotten orders for the table wrong (in one case this was a childs meal) and meant the last of the food order was completed after the first meals arrived were completely eaten or stone cold from waiting for everyone's meals so we could eat together (over a 25 minute wait for the child's meal that they said they were "rushing"). 2nd occasion spoke to the manager because the mash potato and/or gravy on a lamb shank and sausage and mash tasted bitter and chemically. Management "really didn't understand the problem" (his own words) and told us that it was the same potatoes and gravy used from the carvery and we were the first people to complain today. Also stated they use powdered mash potato and its "beyond their control" as to what the mash tastes like?!? Working in hospitality myself for a number of years, that is not good practice and dissapointing as a response from a management level. Received free dessert on both instsnces and a partial refund the 2nd time, which was acceptable, but they need to improve.
R. H.
Had breakfast and much needed coffee after the storm knocked out our power, I needed to work and they were happy to let me use their electric for my laptop
S. B.
Mick was very happy and helpful, will definitely be back soon
N. M.
I love it here! I almost go every month. The staff are usually very happy and helpful. Food is always amazing. Fish and chips or a cavery is a definite must have!
V. C.
Absolutely delicious food ,so much to choose from ,very good value for money, staff very friendly.
S. J.
Lovely meal out with the family. Excellent service and friendly helpful staff. Special mention to Paula who was fantastic. Will visit again soon.
a. f.
Lovely food and fast service however the table wasn’t cleared on cleaned before we sat down to eat.
F. K.
5* to Paula for always being amazing every time we visit! And for finding my lost jumper thank you!!!
J. H.
Very nice place to eat and reasonably priced.
M. V. H.
Service was incredibly slow, but food quality very good. A few general cleanliness issues, however the management team were very sincere and attentive. Would return in the belief that improvement will be made.
n. t.
Fabulous pub and carvery, the food is top tier when it comes to pub grub and the staff have a perfect balance of banter and profesionalism.
L. T.
Great food and service. The employees were very helpful and went well out of their way to meet our needs. Well done to all. Each morning we had breakfast the food provided was first class. Fresh fruit, assorted drinks , cooked breakfast and many types of cereal.
I have to admit they served great coffee, and tea. The evening meals were well presented and tasty you couldn't ask for more. The location was super with plenty of parking too. This will be my choice on my next trip. Welldone all.
M. C.
This was my first time eating here. I'm vegetarian and was really pleased that there was a carvery option for me. There was a good choice of vegetables with the carvery and it was reasonably priced. They do coffee with soya milk too. There were a few other veggie choices too. The pub itself was clean, the staff were helpful and friendly and the car park is a good size. I recommend to others.
L. T.
We love the Chestnut Tree and are regular visitors.
Plenty of parking, lovely decor and ample seating.
A bonus that children must sit in their designated area. Nothing worse than having children screaming and running round while trying to enjoy a quiet meal.
(Yes, I am a mother and grandmother but have never allowed unruly behaviour from the children in restaurants or anywhere else).
I agree with others that the carvery can be a little hit or miss on ocasions but generally it is very good value for money.
The regular menu is varied and has a great selection of meals.
Desserts/Cakes are just amazing.
Majority of staff are friendly and efficient.
Nice to see the Management Team are always front of house getting involved with serving and clearing when busy.
Often apparent that more staff are needed but this is out of Management's control as Greene King only allow a limited budget for staff leaving hands tied to increase workforce.
This considered they do an excellent job and we would recommend the Chestnut anyday.
Keep up the good work guys.
A. G.
We come here a lot and always enjoy it. My son loves the hash browns on the breakfast buffet! When we last went in for breakfast the waiting and kitchen team went above and beyond for my dietary requirements. Managing team who greet you are always lovely and the pub is very clean so we feel safe with the covid rules.
S. F.
Excellent staff good food good price
B. G. W.
Absolutely brilliant staff so welcoming and the Manageress/Front of house was so bubbly and cheery, The service was excellent, the food was beautiful and the fudge cake was huge!! As the manageress/front of house said “Cake for breakfast!!!” Will definitely come back. Thank you for a splendid evening.
E. F.
The food was lovely, plenty on our plates. The desserts are huge, we couldn't eat it all so they give us boxes so we could take it home.
S. S.
Warm friendly welcome. . Had a carvery. Good food . But the server was a bit meagre with his portions . However still great value for money . And food was Hot !
D. R.
Nice atmosphere, place looked very clean and friendly staff. The Carvery was just nice, nothing outstanding due to roast potatoes & Yorkies lacking crisp; however I found the meat fantastic. Would come again on a weekend when everything made fresher as on a Monday evening it lacked freshness.
All in all had a good time and felt welcomed.
If I'm ever around and want a roast, you know where I will be.
A. E.
So, we went today (12/09/18), and ordered a carvery roast for two Wednesday late lunch. The servings for the meat were very generous !!. The sides were cooked to perfection, along with the meat. Hospitality was very good, without being obtrusive. The meal was complimented with a lush latte. There was no room for dessert, but you could buy to take away!!. The cake servings are huge, and there is also a lovely ice-cream parlour - very novel !!. Good value for money - RECOMMENDED !!
I. M.
Good food, great service
Staff very friendly. Best carvery in the town. Pleased to see the screens were still there.
M. B.
Excellent tasty food, only faults were got no onion rings with my mixed grill even though they were stated on the menu & lemonade in shandy was flat & tasteless. But as stated food was excellent.
t. S.
After two really good visits one to carvery and one from other menu our third try was very poor in comparison. Although majority of staff lovely the main server on the carvery was on his own very stressed an dmaking sure all the customers knew about. The pork joint they bought put wasn't cooked and had to be returned think someone had been served from it before it went back. We paid extra for pigs in blankets there were none no refund offered. Having said all this they were very busy and the desserts are to die for so u will return no doubt
M. G.
First visit here. We were greeted with smiles which is always a good start. There is a good choice of food on the menu at very reasonable prices. The food came quickly and the portion was a good size. Typical of this type of restaurant the menus were greasy. I chose scampi and was served less pieces than the menu mentions and the peas were terrible and both my friend and I couldn't eat them. Room for improvement however we will return I'm sure.
k. l.
Had the carvery today.
You can choose 2 of the 3 meats available. Nice choice of veg but well over cooked.
Roast potatoes very dry and tasted as tho they had been there hours.
Pudding was good value and huge..Apple pie was lovely..
The decor was nice and the restaurant looked clean .
Staff was polite and friendly. We went at approx 4pm and no waiting but lots of tables were reserved.
A. B.
Thought I would check out my new local over breakfast today. Good value for money £3.99 with unlimited coffee and breakfast buffet. Food was nice and hot, well cooked and the staff were very friendly and organised. I was expecting there might be a few teething issues with being a newly opened establishment, but I was very impressed with how smoothly everything was running. Will try one evening next week and update my review accordingly. [Edit review] Tried again this weekend and breakfast was a bit slow as they were waiting on bacon. The bacon finally came out, but decided not to eat as it looked barely cooked. I noticed other reviews mentioning the family area. I think personally it is a good idea as kids running around a buffet would always end in disaster.
M. L.
Very nice food and drink good the desserts are amazing and so good. Would definitely recommend to others.
A. S. (.
Service was great and meal was lovely, very large portions
P. L.
Easy fuss free, no nonsense, is what it is and good fun. Give it a bash, especially if you have kids.
S. B.
Lovely food and lovely staff.
You order at the bar and pay upfront, which means you don't have to wait around for the bill, or wait around for someone to take your order.
The food didn't take long, and was perfectly portioned. Even the Coke syrup for the draft was well balanced, and didn't taste like watered down Coke which many other restaurants seem to be doing these days.
There's a good selection of vegetables at the carvery, and lots of sauce options.
If you wanted a carvery, this place is far better to go to than the other main competitor down the A14.
If you didn't fancy a carvery, there's still fantastic food on the menu. This is a perfect all rounder.
D. L.
Excellent breakfast keep up the good work
J. D.
Very nice gluten free meal.
S. A.
Arrived at 9.30 for breakfast. Massive queues. Not enough staff to cope. Had to wait for more food to come out of the kitchen. Tea and coffee had also run out. When I got back to my table the food was barely warm. Have to say the food was tasty and it was a shame that the owners want to work with a skeleton staff mentality. Overall, nice food, good value. Go for the small plate at £3.99 you can still have a plate full. Standard plate is £6.99 and a bit over priced. I would go again, maybe earlier. They open on Sunday at 8am.
K. E.
Great experience, guys on the door Ian, Mark and Paula were extremely friendly and helpful, couldn’t be more attentive, server Michael was very friendly and attentive. Food and drink were bought to our table quickly and was hot. Excellent service, clean restaurant and safety measures are in place for COVID-19. Highly recommend this place.
S. B.
Service on the slow side but pleasant enough staff. Easy to park. Cheap to eat but food seems to aim for quantity over quality. Not many vegetarian options.
J. A.
I cannot move after the excellent and sizeable carvery I have just eaten. Really delicious food and a well run establishment where we were made to feel very welcome. Well worth a visit, but fast for a day in advance!
N. C.
First time customer and what an impression. The food was no less than perfect from the Carvery which i had. I had turkey with Yorkshire pudding, carrots, parsnip, roast potatoes, greeen beans and gravy. For dessert a lovely chocolate sponge pudding and icecream. All the staff were helpful and friendly and for those reasons i will return again.
b. m.
Staff very nice/refilling new vegetables In to pots covering old vegetables/meat cut so thin you can not taste it. /Staff cleaning the tables as soon as you leave the tables.
W. G.
Had a fantastic time with my family here at the Chestnut tree. We all had the carvery except one of my granddaughters how had a very tasty burger. The carvery was delicious!!! Lots of meat. Tried all three meats and they were superb. Pots ,veg lovely !!!. My granddaughters burger was very tasty she said. Kids play area is good., but can get a bit raucous when un checked kids get too excited. Liked the computer games. Kept them amused. All were well catered for. The only thing I could say that was disappointing a little was the slow service. We went at a quiet time so didnt affect us too badly , but in the rush hour should think it may be a problem. But all in all every one was very happy as we walked out the door. Would go again !!!
P. T.
Carvery is lovely offered lady to take a drink out my change and she had to ask her boss never known that before but apart from that was sound x
m. s.
No problem with the carvery, food is great, but other meals not so good. Service a bit slow and fish was more batter than fish. Staff are very helpful and friendly though. Will go again but perhaps not at busy times.
M. W.
Very nice carvery in fact the best I've had in ages. Nice selection of vegetables and nice think onion gravy.
To full to have a sweet but seeing as you do a takeaway service we decided we'll do that. Well done keep it up
W. W.
Brilliant atmosphere, friendy staff.. paula always so happy and cannot help enough..
Food amazing, always hot and fresh..clean and tidy...we come to the chestnut tree alot and never had a bad experience
Thank you chestnut tree in Ipswich.
W. C.
Brilisnt meal and the cakes and deserts are briliant too .The staff were very frirndly and attentive and it was a brilliant evening had by all x
K. V.
Went today for tea and cake. The cake was massive, delicious and you are able to the home what you cannot eat. I took my son who enjoyed the play area. Looking at the menu they did not offer any vegan options so I would not be able to dine there with my partner.
K. B.
We visited for my son's 13th birthday as a group of 6. We had no concerns re: Covid compliance and were impressed by the sanitizing stations throughout the restaurant. We choose Chestnut Tree Farm as the variety of food on the menu ensures everyone can find something they like. The staff were friendly and helpful and I'm sure it won't be long before we're back again.
M. L.
Excellent food and service. Very fairly priced. It's really convenient if you're staying at Holiday Inn and want a change of scene from their menu.
Pics were half way through eating. Also tried the carvery, which was lovely.
A. H.
Carvery was great, but this place needs more staff urgently. The wait to pay is totally unacceptable. 23 mins in a huge queue. The staff were really professional considering the massive pressure! (This was a lunchtime visit during the week too). Dread to think what weekends or evenings would be like!
U. T. '.
Lively staff, great food…well worth a visit.
Easy parking or a short walk from pinewood and chantry areas of ipswich!
I. W.
Nice place for a meal. Probably best to book in first. As I saw a lot of people refused entry due to how full the place got.but it was a good meal.
t. d.
The food was very nice especially the dessert which was very large.
They do give you a box to take away what you dont eat.
The reason for 3 stars not 4 is that when we arrived and shown our pre booked table nothing was mentioned about having to go to the bar to order food and drinks.
There was also no signed to state this in the restaurant or on the menus.
I will go again as the food was very nice and the restaurant had a nice family atmosphere.
a. w.
Very good value for money , would recommend to anybody.
M. E.
I've visited twice now first on the 5th September - had the vegetarian carvery which was fantastic, it was very busy but all fab. The second visit was on Saturday evening and the place was packed - it's still early days and a few teething troubles. Had the carvery again which had a massive queue and the food was running out with only 1 runner filling up. The food was lovely again but please here's some advice to management. Currently with so much interest in the new pub, the carvery is overwhelmed and the 2 chaps are doing a great job but they need help. It's obvious - please look at your staff distribution and allocate another team member to serve the carvery whilst the runner fills up. Its frustrating when you are the customer seeing other team members stood about in the restaurant. This is not rocket science. I'm certain that 2 on the carvery is your standard model but you need to adjust the increase in business in the early days. I'm certain things will settle down in time but in the short term staffing needs some tweaks and this will vastly reduce the number of gripes from customers.
M. w.
Lovely carvery the meat was really good. Friendly service great value for money much better than toby. Ooo I also had rhubarb crumble for dessert which was homemade that was really nice with custard. Keep up the good work.
C. K. S. P.
Cakes are amazing!!! I'd go there just for dessert!!😉
K. E.
Good food at such a reasonable price. Yournever feel rushed and the staff are always polite and genuinely happy to help
A. s.
Topmarks great service and great value food. Our first time and very impressed. Will be going back soon.
S. B.
Really lovey place. Great food. Great selection of cakes and a very homely place. The seating is sometimes a little too close as when I went with friends, a lady kept knocking into the back of me which annoyed me. After looking round to unleash fury upon her poor restaurant etiquette, I realised that she was in the same situation as me and just trying to find a piece of space that didn’t interfere.
A. C.
Really good service, bit of a wait on the carvery but you have to expect that on a sunday. Food really nice and plenty of it. Good value for money too. Staff very friendly and there were a huge number of them around.
J. M.
This will be our fourth time visiting this establishment mark and mick ,plus all the other staff are very friendly
R. G.
come in for meal with family who were up in holiday. Table was nice and clean. Gentlemen behind called micheal politely informed us of things that were out of stock and overall great food and service. We will be back for sure
S. L.
Visited in early June, midweek, at 6pm. I don't like being critical but service was very slow and food was pretty unappetising. Took the best part of 3 hours to get us fed and out of the door. Looking around there was only one other couple dining there, though there may have been others around the corner who we couldn't see. Can't say I'd recommend this place.
D. C.
Ordered the all day breakfast and most of it was nice but a few things let it down, dry over cooked sausages and a lump of old egg stuck to the underside of my fresh egg were a let down. Spoke to the duty manager (lovely lady) who apologized and gave my wife a stunning bit of raspberry cheesecake (she loved it but was too big for her so got the rest to go). Will give them another go but not any time soon.
J. K.
Went twice within 2 days. Lunch on friday with friends, 3 carvery meals and 3 meals from the menu, 2 meals from the menu were brought fairly quickly, friends who were having carvery went to get their meals, had to remind a waitress that i was still waiting on my meal everyone else had more or less finished their meal before i got mine. Second time of visiting was with my brother, opted again to order from the menu, starters and mains as queue for cavery was very very very long, our starters arrived fairly quickly. Young student took our plates away, again had to remind a waitress that we were still waiting on our mains. Will visit again to see if the standard of service has improved or not, will decide then if i will back or not.
c.
I like this place, nice decor, big and comfy, plenty of parking. Considering how busy it is service is pretty good. Staff always friendly... Food lots of choice, and the carvery too. But it just seems a bit bland and same ol. Good value for the money.
D. M.
We came here on father's day. (yesterday) Children enjoyed the play area, food was nice but ques were not!! The que to order food and drinks took ages and i noticed lots of staff on the floor not doing much, would have been alot more handy if they were on the bar too. We ordered food then had another long que to order puddings later on, We gave up on ordering some water for the children after they had had their puddings as I stood in the que for 30 minutes for water and didn't move, so we went elsewhere for the water! Staff were nice tho, just these ques ruined the whole experience.

We arrived for our 8.15pm booking & was told that the carvery was now over 😲
I was surprised as it wasn't actually that late & we weren't informed of this at booking. I was told they stopped the at 9pm. Anyhow we eventually managed to choose some alternatives but they weren't great at all! My daughter ordered the lasagne with came with chips, salad and garlic bread. The chips were very good but the lasagne was overcooked and tasteless.
My son ordered the cheese and tomato pizza which was burnt at the bottom, with garlic bread and a half a corn cobette. The garlic bread was ridiculously soggy ( it should have been served on a separate plate to avoid the oils mixing ( they did this after a complaint).
My seabass was presented well but again lacked flavour. I had to use 2 x each of pepper and salt.
Altogether not a great experience and I won't be rushing back!
I forgot to mention that the lady who took our order behind the bar was really pleasant, as well as her colleague who collected our plates. If only the food had been as nice as their service.

Nice place great prices but food wasn't as hot as I would of liked it and it took ages to refill food when it run out. Staff friendly and helpful and did apologise so I feel it was more kitchen staff then front of house staff. I will return as the place was lovely spacious and clean

Five stars all the way.
Love the food, staff are very friendly and helpful and place is very clean...
Cake is to die for....

Booked a table here for a family lunch. Our reserved table included space for a wheelchair at the table. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly and efficient staff. Just find a table and order your food at the bar using the table number. A good selection of starters, mains, and deserts. There are three sizes of carvery meals depending on your appetite. To stop the car park filling up with non customer's cars there is a high car park charge if you do not log your numberplate on one of the two screens at the bar. Plenty of signs in the car park and restaurant telling you to do this but some people still forget.

Changed my rating after having Christmas day lunch here.
Great food and plenty to eat. The table was ours from when sat down until we left
1-30pm to 4-45pm.
A big thanks to the staff who were great

Great place for a good meal. Good portions, well priced and very friendly staff

Lovely place , staff very friendly we had the carvery we found the mash potatoes a watery mush and the roast potatoes burned and not crispy. Also Yorkshires were flat ones cut into squares. Everything else lovely, our second time going first time was lovely hope things get back to those standards!!!!
D. B.
Absolutely lovely to be able to go back for our Norse end of term breakfast 😀 The staff were efficient and friendly. And we all enjoyed the food 😋

We called in on a very busy Saturday evening and the only thing we could have was a carvery .
I choose the beef and turkey and the beef wasn't the best I've had but can't fault the turkey.
Great selection of vegetables and tasty gravy.
Get the meats sorted and we will certainly visit again.

This is the sort of pub the area has been waiting for with nothing much else on that side of town. Food is cheap and cheerful with decent portion sizes and the carvery is great value for money, just be prepared at peak times this place is filled to the rafters so there can be quite a wait. Finally the cakes, ridiculously huge and tasty, grab yourself a giant eclair to take home and challenge yourself to eat it in one go, bet you can't!

We visited on a busy Friday, the lady front of house was great an managed to find us a table dispite it being quite busy with Christmas dos.
D. B.
A pretty ordinary carvery/ typical chips with everything pub grub pub. Took 10 mins at least to get served at the bar/counter, only one member of staff on duty who was busy sorting out ice creams/desserts and this was at lunchtime!!
We had the carvery which was ok, not a particularly brilliant selection of vegetables.
L. E.
Staff, explained the new system well. They social distanced and wore masks. When it came to ordering from the app it was very slow and kept having to log in! Food ordered then told they had run out of chips, it was a Tuesday night and not busy. Choice of onion rings, rice or mash instead. Lasagne was ok, had better. Not sure I will rush back.

Been for breakfast it was nice but very very salty
D. C.
Really enjoyed the food. 4 adult and 4 children's meals came to £30.00 for the food which is amazing. A little confused about how to order but staff were extremely helpful.
Will definitely be returning as price and quality were really good

I visited the chestnut tree farm when it first opened and was very disapointed decided to give it another go tonight. Food was very good but they just do not have enough staff. I went to the bar as a number of tables were not cleared after customers left our table was sticky and dirty from previous customer only to be told the waitress was busy so I would have to wait. In the end I put the dirty dishes from our table with another dirty table and used my own anti bacterial wipes to clean our table.

Food good but was warm not hot .but very friendly people

Gave this place a go even after hearing numerous negative reviews and glad we did, the food was very nice and the service was good. To the lady who was shouting into her phone behind us, we could've done with you leaving your mobile at home that day. Otherwise our group had a very nice meal.
C. F.
As this was my first visit i didn't really know what to expect. I had a carvery which was very nice, however due to unclear floor markings and one member off staff who was quite rude and told me i had walked the wrong way and was standing in the wrong place i wont be going back there soon. Abit more staff training would be appreciated.
T. G.
Been here 3 times now quick service friendly staff carvery is fantastic but only downside is there Yorkshires, I must say toby carvery Yorkshire are better but everything else is superb here. first visit I had steak 2nd visit the carvery and this time the hunters chicken and it was beautiful. like I said only thing they need to change is there Yorkshires .
k. b.
I couldn't have a family get together for my birthday due to social distancing rules not stretching to 8.CakeAway was the answer and the chestnut tree didn't disappoint. 6 very generous portions of 6 different amazing cakes was plenty for everyone. We all tried a little of each others cake... 🐷🐷🐷 Heaven. Definately will do again

Good atmosphere and friendly staff but we weren’t asked if our food was ok and one of the dishes wasn’t great. Nice carvery, quick service and good bar service too
D. T.
Good dinner pub, best carvery around!! staff very friendly and polite 6 *
J. C.
Excellent service at short notice lovely pleasant staff lovely food
M. D.
Great place to eat or just a drink, food is always good and a wide selection of drinks. Great staff, very friendly
B. H.
Very good. Booking from menu on app a pain, but we conquered it. Good food, good value, really nice staff, and the sun shone
D. C.
Large pub located on the outskirts of Ipswich, near copdock roundabout. Plenty of seating to cater for small or large parties. The menu and carvery are reasonably priced.
First thing you will notice however is the cakes on display and he ice-cream displays. Friendly policy staff await you, and a clean dining area.
At peak/bust times if you aren't having carvery expect about a 20 minute wait on food.
I. H.
Came for breakfast, was fine. We had a dog so we had to sit outside. One visit to the buffet allowed, but you're OK for unlimited tea/coffee and toast. Staff were busy but helpful.👍
A. W.
This is a very busy restaurant service is quick and meals okay but some you can tell have been reheated but thats to be expected due to the high turnover as they wouldn't have time to cook up fresh. The plus side are the cakes if you like large slices then this is the place for you.
I. B.
Good food good staff good overall experience. Good for kids.
D. G.
Lovely food I had the carvery and partner had a chicken combo. Very nice!! First visit. Well done we will be back.
K. L.

B. D.
Best carvery I have tried. So much choice, all hot and not over cooked.
R. H.
Lovely food friendly staff nice atmosphere. Nice to drop in for a meal or just coffee and a cake. Plus they do cakeaway so nice if you want to take your pudding home.
M. K.
Good prices and nice food.
S. M.
Had a great roast. The meat was cooked lovely. All the vegetables where great to . Was to full for dessert so took it home . Paula is a great member off staff . Always has time to have a chat and laugh with you . See you soon .
S. W.
Great roast dinner...friendly staff
C. O.
A restaurant pub that has a carvery option. Deceptively spacious inside, with a layout that keeps the children towards one end. There is a good menu with good prices. I had the carvery, the meat was very tender and there was a very good selection of veg.
C. H.
Second visit and would certainly return for the carvery! Worth booking on a Sunday, but they only take bookings for a Sunday before the day!! They do accommodate walk ins where they can. Reasonable price.
F. K.
Always lovely service and love the carvery. We really appreciate Mark's service, he was excellent and very patient!

A carvery to rival Toby
This was our first visit to the Greene King challenger to the Toby Carvery Market and it was pleasantly surprising.
I had Bertie 8 and Charlie 11 with me and Bert is coeliac.
Staff were friendly and unphased when I ordered drinks for us and asked for the allergens book.
Unlike many restraunts they were unphased and the book arrived almost instantly.
A read through confirmed only three things Bert couldn't have the yorkdhires, cauliflower cheese (which ironically us easy to make gluen free) and the gravy. They did however offer gluten free gravy.
Ordered two small and one medium carvery to get an idea of portion sizes which were really good.
Bert explained he couldn't have Gluten and the carvery chef told him not to worry as most things were gluten free and ran in the back to get him his own gravy boat of gravy.
She then set to work carving his meat,
before giving me his Yorkshire pudding!
The meat was well cooked, tasty and moist and the vegetables were not over cooked and again tasty.
I like the Toby, both boys decided they were full and left some on their plate, a rare occasion that mk ay have been influenced by the PlayStations and Xboxs in the children's area.
All in all a great trip out for lunch at an excelent £22 for the three of us.
S. N.
Friendly staff and a nice new location, but the bank holiday carvery was let down by dried up Yorkshire pudding and poorly cooked roast and boiled potatoes. Next time I'll try ordering off the menu as the venue was pleasant enough otherwise.
N. C.
Good food, good staff.
R. R.
Yorkshire pudding was very rubbery and hard to chew, probably been out too long or a poor mix. Disappointing for a place that does a great looking carvery. Rest of the food was very good though.
S. T.
I was with five friends when visiting the restaurant Saturday just gone. My meal was okay (Salmon). Two meals (Sausages and mash) had to be sent back because they were luke warm. We had practically finished ours by the time their fresh ones had arrived which spoilt it for them. Think it has put us off going back for a while.
L. P.
Lovely afternoon, great lunch , made to feel really welcome. Made my young grandson so welcome too,
S. T.
Great carvery, service was good. Kids were happy and bellies were full. Thank you
G. H.
We took a large group of young people for a meal. There were 25 of us!
The service we received was outstanding. Nothing, and I really do mean nothing, was too much trouble.
We were extremely well looked after and I can not recommend Chestnut Tree highly enough.
Special thanks to Steve! 👍
Many thanks Fairview Farm
B. C.
The desserts here are legendary (although not gluten free), not many places you can get a slice of cake a foot high! Also if you don't want a huge plateful, the option of a small carvery for just £4.99 is a great idea (and not so small either)
J. H.
3rd attempt of having cake/dessert, very disappointed. Did not enjoy the cheesecake, loves amazing but didn't taste it. Nice little children's area and plenty of seating. Separate seating area for families with children.
a. s.
Decent food pleasant staff.

Really enjoyed the carvery we went at about five and it still looked very fresh as presentable, it was very busy butthe manager managed to seat is very quickly, all the staff were very polite I would recommend here to eat, will be coming again .
S. S.
Surprisingly I really enjoyed the carvery, The food looked a little bit of a mess but it tasted really good. Amazing value for money will definitely go back
r. c.
Social distancing and covid compliancy impeccable. Food was lovely, extremely impressed with their gluten free and vegan menus. Staff super efficient and friendly. Will definitely be back
E. G.
Great breakfast, very cheap
G. V.
Again, an excellent meal and good service, nothing really to warrant a complaint
A. B.
Had a nice time with the family here. The food was tasty and the service was great - not too over-attentive. Plus the kids loved playing in the play area. Parking was good too. No need to pay for parking.
R. A.
I would like to thank all staff and managment, who were friendly and knew exsactly what needed to be done in these difficult times. They have made it spacious and clearly marked out and the staff made you feel safe, told you how to move around. food was very nice and was quick to. thanks Richard & Kirsty

Delicious food and friendly staff - we will be back!

A great eatery. Friendly staff and good food. The carvery is amazing and there is a skill to getting the amount of food you want on the plate. Terrific value as well.
G. K.
Just pop in for breakfast all you can eat buffet, all full up and ready for the day ahead
A. A.
Had a lovely carvery, they had a play area for my son. Service was good, quickly, polite. Desserts are fantastic! You should try the cakes!
A. S.
Lovely food served by lovely staff with a lovely smile. Highly recommend.
H. S.
Lovely carvery, lovely prices, lovely atmosphere. Only 4 stars as had no air con
b. m.
Lovely place, food was brilliant, service excellent, very good value for money. For dessert I tried a giant eclair,! See photo. I'm a pig but I just couldn't eat it all. Amazing.
H. W.
Went here for breakfast, unlimited tea, coffee and toast and help yourself buffet style fry up. Obviously built my plate to about a foot high with enough food to feed a small horse, for the £5.49 fee (there is a smaller plate option for £4.49 but what sane person is interested in that 😂)
I couldn't fault it.
The only improvement I can see being possible is to chuck in a selection of cakes and pastries, meats and cheeses in case the day you go your feeling mildly continental!
Im defo returning even if they don't do this.
D. B.
Went to Chestnut Tree Farmhouse for breakfast last week and the food was very good. Staff very helpful & polite table service is brilliant.
S. H.
Not great to be honest .I was dissapointed. .missed parts of our order out . .got some parts wrong altogether although we had put everything down on our order sheet . Some staff dident even know the festive menu had started . .but their saving grace were the greeting and waiting staff . They tried to make everything right and were fantastic
R. C.
Brilliant carved meal. Great quality at a fantastic price
J. S.
Delicious! Lasagne and quiche. Good portions, half hour wait but was busy in the evening. Helpful staff. Second visit. Last time experienced 'cake away'.
L. S.
Great selection off veg for the carvery and the desserts are great value for money.
