We walked in thinking we had made reservations but it seemed the restaurant didn't us down. However, the hostess was very kind and offered us a table near the front door... we didn't mind and were happy we got seated because the restaurant was already packed. For Starters we ordered the pan fried shrimp and the calamari. Oh My! The shrimp were succulent and the calamari were tender and both were very yummy. For our entrees, we ordered the Fish Cakes and the Sword Fish with orange sauce. Both were delicious and the flavors exceeded our expectations. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere but a first class service... absolutely top notch. The prices are fair and affordable for this top quality seafood. This was definitely a dining experience not to be forgotten.

What a fantastic place.. we have eaten sea food from all over and have to admit it was very fresh and satisfying. We booked our table and confirmed with staff. On the night we got seated on arrival with the arrangements made. Oysters from Colchester was a hit the person who had them said better than the ones eaten in France.. and very fresh. We had a good selection of different fish.. and squid which again was cooked differently but was said to also be very good. The salmon and plaice was also very fresh and very good and also the sea bass! New potatoes very good and the chips also better than most places. Staff very friendly and helpful. Overall a very good experience.

We had a wonderful meal here for my husbands birthday on Monday 6th June. I don't actually like fish so was a bit anxious as to what I could eat. Well I had the most amazing fillet steak! It was cooked to perfection, better than some I've had in London steak restaurants!! My husband really enjoyed his fried skate wings too. The food here is amazing and we highly recommend the Ocean Fish platter to everyone. The portions are generous and the staff are very friendly. Thank you for a lovely meal!!

What a place, great food nice atmosphere even if it was a little loud. Service excellent food exceptional. We went here to celebrate my daughter's 30 birthday as we thought we would try something different. This place ticked that box, very busy and very popular place to eat if you like seafood. They do a token selection of none seafood items but why would you go here if you are not keen on seafood. For a party of eight all having a starter and main course the total cost was £223.00. None of us had room for pud so you do get a lot, you have been warned. The only thing I will say is, it is loud just with people chatting but we did go on Saturday and the place was packed so what did we expect? Would definitely go again if I'm in the area.

Disappointed, had huge expectations but was let down by the taste. We were a group of 4 and an infant. All 4 of us had the same opinion, it was bland overall especially the ocean platter :( Staffs are friendly and service is good. The prices are very reasonable. Coming to the food, we ordered Oysters, fresh crab salad, Ocean platter and a junior cod. Fresh crab salad was very good and perfect. The ocean platter was too bland, only mussels were tossed in some sort of sweet Chilli sauce. Not sure if we were supposed to be served some sauces on the sides for ocean platter. Junior cod along with fries and salad was good too, my son enjoyed his meal.

Im not a huge fish/ seafood fan but I like to try new things. I had the spicey swordfish kebab and was blown away. Quality was second to none of all the ingredients, chips, and fish. What you are even doing in Ipswich if you haven't been here yet? Truly wonderful restaurant. Trip to the Mediterranean without getting on the plane! *They will dress your table with balloons for a special occasion! Gluten Free friendly!

I went there on a very hot day. The staff saw me use a fan ( the paper kind, old fashioned way), and without being prompted, they put an electric fan on in my direction. That's definitely going beyond good service in my book. The waiter and waitress were both polite, kind and quick to answer queries. The decor is ok, if you like the seaside style, a tad clinical, but everything was really clean. The food is good value for money. The menu is not very imaginative, however, for fish and seafood lovers, it's paradise. I had pasta with salmon and cream, and boy, the salmon was good, fresh, tasty - I'd never thought i could be lyrical about salmon. My husband had fish and chips, and he was impressed by the fact that his meal wasn't greasy - not a small feat for a cook. The restaurant had lobsters in their aquarium which were bigger than my arm - impressive. We will come back.

We tried the ocean seafood plaster. The seafood are of great variety and they are all very fresh. The seafood are also a very generous amount that we cannot even finish all of them. The waiters there are all very nice with very good service. They cleaned out table after every courses. For price of seafood in England, I would say it is very reasonable. I will definitely go to the restaurant again when I come to Ipswich.

Went as part of a party of 12 for a relatives 80th Birthday. Fantastic range of fish and seafood dishes... so many lovely things to choose from, it was actually quite difficult to decide. Burgers and steaks available for those that aren't keen on fish/seafood and vegetarian options too. Had the pan fried prawns on bruscietta and then swordfish kebab with a side of rice. Delicious! Whole party enjoyed their meals. Too full for desserts. Wonderfully friendly and efficient staff. Table was in a perfect spot. Clean, intimate setting that is lit beautifully. Really could not fault it at all. Look forward to going back. Thankyou :)

Popped in with the boys as we were passing, hungry and it was raining. A little gem, hidden in plain sight in Ipswich. Great covid arrangements in place throughout our visit and signage to remind people too. Amazing live lobster and crab tank for you to choose your dinner from, we were just in for lunch so ordered fish and chips. They served gluten free and explained they used the same oil and were we happy with that, which we were. Good sized portions, Great home made tar tar sauce and a nice salad with it and freshly made and cooked mushy peas too. Excellent venue, staff and amazing food. Not sure why it says Platter when it's Basket but ignoring that, this place is a real diamond in the rough when it comes to really great tasting and looking food, trust me I have been to some of the best and worst, this ranks as a really surprising best. You just would not expect it, from the outside it looks like a errm take away fish shop, until you step in then it's like you have just been transported into another place, very surreal, the staff are super friendly, I consider myself a pretty good cook so I'm ultra fussy, there is nothing I could fuss about or suggest a better way of cooking and preparing the food for the customers table. If your looking for a place to take family or a loved one, a lunch time get together or work break and exhausted all the local food outlets, try The Ocean Fish Basket. You really won't be disappointed. I can recommend the mussels super yummy. I forgot to mention, amazing value for money.

Nicely different fish restaurant, okay yes we just stopped of before the theatre to have a quick cod and chips but the service was quick and efficient. To be honest the small cod was quite filling enough, and the salad I opted for was well presented. For is good value for money but do take note of the soft drink prices when compared to alcoholic beverages - however plain water is of course an option. Loved the decor and the care of the place settings - and real flower stems too. Great variety on the menu should cater for anyone's tastes.

Excellent meal with amazing quality and flavour, also service, which I couldn't fault but I didn't give 5 stars as we were seated in the window, which even though we got a cold blast every time the door opened that was OK but then they opened the window above the door half way through our meal, due to an alarm going off so it got extremely cold sitting where we were. Perhaps need a separate fan heater near that seating area. That being said I will definitely go back again.

Amazing food. I'm from Florida and this is the best sea food I have had since moving here. The only thing I would say is they are way above market price on the crab and lobster I would say 60% or so.... The rest of the food is priced normaly. If money is not an issue then go for sure

Had a fantastic meal tonight. When we told the waiter that it was our 1 yr wedding anniversary, he was awesome. Rose petals and confetti over the table, anniversary balloons tied to the vase. The food was simply amazing... My only issue was the service charge. Our bill was £70 plus £7 service (we actually rounded our bill to £80). As I've said above, I can't fault the food or the waiter service. I just hope that they receive all of the tip given... We were table 1 tonight. I had a superb haddock, chips and mushy peas and I don't think you'll find better anywhere on the East Coast - I was amazed at the quality and value at £12.50. It's run by Turkish people, who often use cheap potatoes for the chips, but these were hand cut and thick. The fish was cooked to perfection. Excellent.

Best restaurant I’ve ever been to! The staff are amazing, customer service is on top you feel like a VIP. The cocktails are the best cocktails I’ve ever had, ive been to restaurants in london and Manchester etc and no where has better cocktails than Ocean fish platter! The fish is incredible, flavours just melt on your tongue and the feta rolls are so crispy and the cheese is just to die for. This is 100% the best restaurant ive ever been to.

They have cooked to high standards. It's so refreshing to see staff who are happy to help. The only thing I would say is be careful of ordering food for your little child- this boy who is probably new put really hot food right in front of my child who as they do put hands straight in. An experienced waiter would either give to parents or at least away from kids reach. But everything else has been perfect

I popped in for an impromptu lunch today. I’m so pleased I did. I was greeted immediately by the cheerful and friendly waitress and offered a table of my choice. I had initially gone in for a bit of ‘good old fashioned fish and chips.’ You can certainly get that here, but I was soon drawn to a few other things on the menu. I opted for the seafood plateau for one, and chose the squid and fish. The chef asked whether I’d like my fish grilled or fried, so I went for the grilled. Chips or rice? I selected the rice. It came freshly prepared, beautifully presented, with on the vine cherry tomatoes, asparagus and a gorgeous fresh salad. I have to say that the fish was the most beautiful, perfectly cooked piece that I’ve had in ages. Very reasonably priced too. I’m working away from home at the moment and this was the perfect birthday treat to myself today. Thank you so much.

I don't live in Ipswich, which I'm a bit gutted about now because I'd have to drive for over an hour to eat here again. A friend took me here, and he described it to me as 'unassuming, but really good'. He was totally right. From the outside, it looks a bit like a cafe, but as you enter, little details here and there clue you in that this is a restaurant. We hadn't booked, but luckily there was a table free. Very lucky, as within the next hour the tables started to fill, and just kept going. So, we get seated, the menus are there, the waitress is friendly and happy and we choose our meals and order some wine. I start to realise that this is, indeed, a proper restaurant when the wine arrives with the wine waiter, who shows us the bottle, opens it with practised ease, asks if we would like to taste and pours for us. He is also happy and friendly, which we discover is a general state among the wait staff. I'm already happy to be here, but when the starters arrive I'm extremely pleased. The calimari is piled high on the plate, along with a salad, and the Scottish scallops are large and cooked perfectly. They almost seem to sigh as you cut into them. We're talking as we eat, but the conversation is paused several times to groan over the plates and exclaim 'its so good!'. I'm trying to scrape what's left of the sauce off my plate because I just want more. And I'm thinking to myself, if this was just the starters, how amazing is the main going to be? The wait staff have impeccable timing as well, the plates are taken swiftly and they laugh at our jokes and are so pleased that we've enjoyed the food. My friend confesses this is his third time in the restaurant and he just needed an excuse to come again, explaining his gentle prods when asking me to 'choose'. The main arrives, grilled sea bass with chips (obviously) and vegetables. The chips come in a separate bowl, leaving the sea bass to occupy the plate, and it does so gorgeously! Two pieces recline over their bed of vegetables, and I can't wait to get stuck in. The first bite has me interrupting whatever my friend was talking about, as I'm too busy crying over the deliciousness in my mouth. The fish is grilled to total perfection, skin crispy and holding that barbecue flavour, and the flesh soft and flaky. The vegetables are the same, and compliment the fish completely. I think it's clear that I enjoyed the food, but I still feel the need to say that those were the best plates of fish I've had in my life, and any opportunity to return to Ipswich will definitely include another meal here. I can't emphasise enough, if you're anywhere near this place, you are doing yourself a massive disservice by not going in.

Just so excited to eat somewhere in Ipswich where the chef understands gluten intolerance/coeliac issues. Only slip was the waitress bringing a decanted bottle of vinegar to our table claiming it was GF, I'm naturally suspicious so refrained and on discussion with the chef he confirmed it had been malt vinegar.
