Outstanding service not only for our meal but there hospitality is first class. We used the restaurant and accommodation apart of our wedding in June 22 and the service received should be applauded. Enjoyed everything about this place except the overpriced wine list which made it an expensive visit. Staff very friendly and welcoming food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Not visited in years but the redecoration is lovely.

Our first night in the area and we chose this as our first eating place. What a great choice! Friendly, polite, and engaging service providing first class food. The emphasis upon service could not be faulted, even taking the time to provide a taster of two suggested wines (both of which were excellent!). The whole experience was a pleasure. We arrived in chelmondiston later than expected and decided to try the Red Lion for a meal and having not booked we were not hopefull.we were greeted by a friendly girl who then asked the charming host if there was a table for us and we were led to a lovely table by the window with cushions..and made to feel realy welcome.I asked for sauvignon blanc and was offered a choice of two and when i couldnt decide i was given tasters .what a lovely touch.our meals were top class and the whole experience was amazing.couldnt have got a better welcome to chemondiston.

Lunch on a Thursday. Charming welcome, friendly and efficient team. The meal was a pleasure (spinach soup - delicious; and cod and chips with mushy peas - first rate). The tables are well spaced (Covid) and the washrooms were spotlessly clean and tidy. A happy find.

Consistently great food (I fancy the sea bass) and amazing friendly service. One of the jewels that make the small village of Chelmondiston really shine. You get a great level of service suited for a random meal with friends or a special evening out with your partner.

Love this place ❤ The food is gorgeous, the landlord she is an amazing lady can never do enough for you service is excellent. We go on our date night quite regularly. Last week we took some friends and as always a fantastic night. The menu is quite small but caters for everyone and is superb Fish is amazing. Very clean modern and a hrt ambience. Cant say enough about this wonderful place.

This is a great Gastro pub. We have been many times and it is always good. The welcome is warm, the ambience comfortable and pub like and the food is just excellent. We especially like the fish, which is always perfect. I think this is definitely one of the best places to eat in the area and we drive from Colchester to enjoy it!

Great pub. Looks a lot better than the outside Smart & elegant. We called in here for a pre-arranged lunch after an organised walk. About 15 of us turned up & the staff coped very well. Everything from a filled baguette to fish with Mediterranean roasted veg. We will definitely call in again when we are next in the area & feeling hungry

Fantastic meal in this idyllic country Gastro pub. Situated on the outskirts of Ipswich within easy walking distance of the picturesque river Orwell. The staff are welcoming and attentive and the food is first class. Highly recommended.
