Best Japanese food in Ipswich. Super fresh and yummy. A regular destination with friends who want a tasty night. Not cheap but definitely worth it.

Really awesome Sushi and definitely worth a visit if you're local to Ipswich. The rice bowl dish I had, Deopbap, was quite lackluster but the rest of the meal made up for it for sure! Not expensive yet not cheap so keep that in mind. This place is very well put together and located in the town centre with lots of travel links and parking options. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit in Ipswich!

First time trying takayama for a special occasion as suggested by a friend. the food was delightful, the sake an exquisite taste to supplement our meal. the pork rib starter definitely a favourite. we would definitely come back again as the food was delectable and we can't wait to try more of the menu. also, a nice addition of having the choice between conventional cutlery or utilising chopsticks. however, there was only one downside, a new member of staff was being trained on the night, understandably they were somewhat uncertain or hesitant perhaps even shy or awkward - not a problem. however, I take issue with senior staff expressing loudly negative qualities of said trainee adding to their uneasiness of learning the ropes. this is highly unprofessional and simply unnecessary. trainee was much more attentive, polite and kind compared to that particular member of staff. I hope in the future senior staff can exhibit more patience towards those they are training up.

Delicious veggie food with quick prep time! Reasonable prices as food and drinks sated mine and my partner's desires for under £30. The waiting staff were very friendly and a delight to order with. We enjoyed the Agedashi Tofu that came out to our table bubbling, straight from the kitchen! Unfortunately the Koroke was served cold. Despite this, it was still delectable! We also ordered the Vegetable Tempura Roll which was yummy! Satisfied with the vegetarian and vegan options here, we will be visiting again :)

Attentive staff and fantastic food. First thing you notice is how clean everything was, the menu is big and can be overwhelming but it is well set out. They have a separate Vegan menu, the vegetarian options are mixed in with the main menu. I ordered from the vegan menu and a vegetarian meal to see what they could offer. I wasn't disappointed, the food was so fresh and satisfying. For one of the best restaurants in Ipswich I think it was quite reasonably priced. Only complaint would be the noise from the road outside, we did eat early and the roads were very busy. Lots of loud music and beeping.

To give less than 5 stars would be to do a disservice to the staff, the food and the atmosphere. This was our first Japanese restaurant, and it was wonderful. Menu has a wide range of sushi, noodles, Japanese and Korean cuisine among other things. The food was fantastic quality - sushi rice made fresh and the fish too. The pricing was reasonable. 3 course with drinks that came to around £30 - which for great sushi is a fair price. The restaurant had a great cosy feel to it too and the staff were very helpful. Only qualm regarded booking - as there was only 1 table available for a 7pm slot despite booking 7 weeks in advance. Would highly recommend for a eastern Asian restaurant in Ipswich.

Only a suggestion.... Don't go JUST for the sushi. I mean They have the best sushi I ever tasted so far, but they have a wide menu with a huge choice. You can enjoy their sushi, but all other options will let you pleased on the same way. I decided to try different options every time and every time I just realised it was a great choice. The staff pay attention to details and is prepared and welcoming. Probably one of the best places to go for a good experience in Ipswich

Always a great dining experience and wonderful service both in the restaurant and via the delivery service. Absolutely a favourite for my family, an extensive Japanese and Korean menu with vegan, vegetarian and even gluten free options. Choice of spicy or not if you don't like spicy foods. The restaurant itself is lovely, simple, clean and comfortable. The food is always of good quality. As much as we have been here to eat there has never been a disappointing visit. The food quality and flavour is consistently beautiful. Presentation is consistently beautiful. Definitely worth a visit when they reopen, and well worth ordering while they are delivering. Highly recommend Takayama for quality food and exceptional service, you won't regret it. A real gem!

Had a really great time at one of the best restaurants in Ipswich. Food delicious and really well priced. Staff welcoming and attentive. Really appreciated bringing out of the birthday cake for one of our party and they even sang happy birthday too. We were a party of 6 and bill came to £128. All but one of our party had starters, everyone had mains and two had pudding. Everyone had drinks This goes to show how great value this place is. Go! You won't be disappointed.

Great choice of Japanese and Korean food. They have a gluten free menu as well that has lots of selection (no gf soy sauce unfortunately though). Sushi was absolutely delicious, the Korean mains we’ve had were nice too. Most staff is really nice and helpful, however we’ve had one lady that just ran off when I politely mentioned that my main was cold - nothing happened for 5 minutes until I mentioned it to a different member of staff. Same lady also never brought the wine we’ve ordered. This is the only reason it’s not 5 stars, food was great and all the other staff members very friendly.

We had a lovely family meal here and was great quality. Had the crispy squid rings which were cooked to perfection and gyoza also spot on . The crispy soft shelll crab was a winner but not to sure on the chicken thigh skewers as the skin was left on but not crispy so flopped about like a jelly fish on a line and it was difficult to eat. Now my partner and I are well versed in the art of chopstick eating but it would had been nice to been offered knives and forks as some members of our party struggled. ( The staff were very busy and the fam felt very British about waiting to be asked) Two of us had bimibap (the stone cook variety) and the waitress checked that we knew about the dish and how mix it which was appreciated as it does come with egg and easy to miss flavours if not mixed properly). The others at our table had teriyaki cod and salmon and both dishes were good value for money, well cooked and plated well. The place is nicely decorated with plenty of space between tables to feel cozy but not cramped would be a nice for date or anniversary etc. The loo came with 4 ply cushioned toilet paper no expense spared there. as I say you can always judge a place by its toilet. The only complaint I would have was that service seemed a little unorganised. The food came out promptly and they were all pleasant enough but we had no dedicated server. This meant that we did not get asked if we wanted more drinks and waited a while for the bill. We were asked the obligatory is everything alright of course but being tucked round he corner we couldn't really get Their attention. Don't get me wrong none of that by any means was enough to put me off the meal . Thank you to the resteraunt as we had a lovely night and keep up the good work on the food quality.

Very enjoyable meal here tonight while visiting family in Ipswich. Well decorated and clean looking establishment if a little dark internally although the lighting at each table was more than adequate. Stand out thing for me is that on our way to the table there was a display counter where you could see the fish to be used for our meals, all looking clean and well prepared. Not having been to a sushi oriented restaurant in quite a few years so i was a little cautious with my choices. I chose Nigiri Aburi Tuna to start but actually recieced the Salmon. I was offered a replacement but i had been torn between choosing Salmon of Tuna so happily accepted the diah. it was in short amazing. Delicate soft Salmon flesh sporting tiny pindots of black from the blowtorch that was passed over it for just a few seconds. Combined with the obligatory wasabi, soy and ginger, the salmon flavour was elevated to new levels. I was ready to order another before i finished the first bite. For main i chose the Chicken Raman. Full of fresh clean vegetables which retained a good bite, this was a good Raman but not the best i have eaten and lacked a little of the spice and intensity of the broth that i would have expected. That said, it was certainly worth the asking price but i would choose differently next time. Desert was hardly required after the big bowl of Ramen but i opted for a chocolate Praline cake which was delectable. Service was very good and despite having a loud and excited 3 year old the staff talked to him and welcomed him like family. I would highly recommend a visit.

Amazing meal at Takayama. As a fan of Japanese cuisine was tempted to visit restaurant for quite some time. Miso soup lovely 8/10. Could be a bit bigger, could be a bit hotter but can't complain much, taste was spot on. Bulgogi bibimbap had for first time ever and was served without the egg?, anyway it was good but not amazing in taste (for my judgement) 7/10, on the other hand Chicken Ramen was delicious 9/10, but the most amazing dish was dessert. We've ordered matcha mochi ice cream and that was ideal finale. Purely delectable 10/10. Definitely going to come back and try other dishes.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant! By far and away best Tako Yaki i’ve ever had. I also tried Tonkatsu Curry for the first time here and it was brilliant. The portions are very generous - I was stuffed by the end!! The prices are incredibly affordable it was only £40 for the two of us and they even through in some fruit for us for free (pictured below)! Although we collected the staff I spoke to were very polite and friendly indeed! I hope one day to come back and eat in, do yourself a favour and try this place!

Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat on google maps. What a great place! The food is top notch Japanese with freshly made sushi that was out of this world. Main courses were also faultless, well presented and really tasty. The staff are really exceptional; friendly, knowledgeable and always on hand should you need them. A great night! We ate here for the first time tonight for my birthday, they were so kind to book us a table 30 mins earlier than opening time. The sushi was amazing! Presentation and flavour outstanding. The service was superb, attentive without being overbearing, all staff members were courteous and very professional. The restaurant was very cosy and made for a lovely intimate dining experience. We’ve eaten here a few times now, and overall really enjoy the experience. The sushi is delicious, really fresh and very well presented. A lot of the starters are great too (especially the karaage!). However, every time we have had a dish off the main course, we have been disappointed. The meals have always been very bland and underwhelming. We’ve eaten a lot of Japanese food and it is a totally different experience from the dishes here. Despite this, if you’re after some really good sushi then I would definitely recommend!

Japanese restaurant in Ipswich, which is something of a surprise. This is a good standard of restaurant in what is otherwise a good desert town. The service was charming, corona protections well organised, food is good quality Korean-Japanese blend (you could certainly eat a complete Japanese meal here, if you didn’t feel Like mixing cuisines). California rolls were well made, very tasty kimchi, beef yakitori and chicken dishes were good. I can’t comment on sushi or sashimi. I plan to return.

The sashimi is very fresh and there is a great variety too. To give 5 stars, I would have liked the waiters to be more helpful when putting dishes down onto our table: they would wait for is rearrange everything to make space. This was tricky to do with a toddler so it would have been appreciated if they had helped with this. Other than that, everything else was delicious.

The best Japanese and Korean food you can get in Suffolk! Everything you order is incredibly fresh, delicious and quick. If you're lucky you can get a seat near the sushi bar where you can watch the sushi and sashimi be prepared beautifully. While the food is enough to sell you on Takayama, the service is the real diamond. Exceptionally polite and friendly staff help sell the entire experience. With plenty of cheap parking nearby, positioned only a short distance from both the town centre and marina, there is no excuse not to visit this gem of a restaurant! Cannot recommend enough!

Absolutely LOVELY place. This is clearly a place owned by people with a serious passion, not just to make a profit. The oweners should be deeply proud of their business. The food was beyond delicious, and the portions were huge. The decor created the perfect ambiance for a japanese restaurant. And we got a whole teapot for £3. Would absolutely recommend, best experience ever. My only recommendation to the owners would be considering to increase the number of toilets. One WC for the capacity of the restaurant felt too little. In short, wonderful experience, excellent service and delicious food.

Top Japanese restaurant in Ipswich. I have now been here more than 15 times and I have to admit that this place NEVER lets me down, NEVER disappoints me and, quite the opposite, it ALWAYS surprises me with the highest quality of the food, the flavours, EVERYTHING. Wow, this place is so good we ordered delivery to our hotel on the first night and then we went into the restaurant the night after and tbh if I could afford it if he in there again now. Yummy, yummy, yummy. Spicy Tuna Roll a must, yellowtail fantastic, service was fantastic given the circumstances and our two kids under 5. Only downsides...they charged us £2.50 for some cucumber.... and my husbands chair was so, so low. Which I thought was 👌 awesome 👌 but him not so much. Hehehe. I hope to dream of eating it. Fantastic food and in my opinion very well priced. Nice decor and well spaced seating plan. Got the impression we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Had to dine in under 90 minutes which we achieved easily as a result of their prompt service. Everything was lovely and fresh!

The food was excellent here and I quite liked the decor and atmosphere of the place. The bathroom was spotless and had a pleasing scent, which is always a good sign. The wallpaper pattern here is pretty darn cute as is the tableware and chopstick holder. The wine was quite good and their menu selection also appeared quite appealing. The only downside to the visit is that when I walked in the staff looked at me as if I was lost, I had to tell them I wanted a table. I was dressed in casual clothes compared to everyone else in the restaurant, which felt like it may have been part of the weird introduction. Staff also seemed very focused on the tables with multiple people so it took quite a while to get the check as they ran back and forth checking on those tables, I was sitting alone. My interactions with staff were a little off putting, but the food was good. I’m thinking it might have been a one off experience, but I’m not sure.

Took my girlfriend out for dinner hear today. Booked a table over the phone. Staff were very helpful and extremely nice. This was continued during the dining experience. The menu offered an array of choices and options for vegetarians and vegans. The prices were better than expected. For example, we had the avocado salad (£5.60) which featured a bowl of salad and no fewer than 3 VERY large avocados which I would expect to pay the same for at the local supermarket. We also got the Assorted Sushi deluxe (£32, yes does sound like a lot but hear me out) this came with a huge 24 piece board which including a huge variety of sushi, there was salmon, eel, octopus (surprising nice btw for those sceptical) and many more. The desserts were delicious as well. The food came out very quickly. Asw as food, they offer a variety of drinks: wine, champagne, tea, soft drinks and even cocktails. I personally went for their Japanese Gin and omg was that great. My gf had the mango juice and even as norm as it sounded that was great. I really recommend going here!

I'm a vegan and went here on my own as I was in Ipswich before a work event and i couldn't be bothered with hotel food. I heard there was a great seperate vegan menu. What I heard was understated! The menu was extensive. The food was fresh, quick and incredibly tasty. The service was good, the gyoza is amazing and the home made teriyaki sauce is to die for. For meat-eaters, there's a totally different menu, but it still looked great (i overheard people raving about the beef). My starter, main, 2×Japanese beers and a big pot of green tea came in at under £25 which I thought was great value. Whatever you eat, if you're in Ipswich and looking for an awesome meal at a reasonable price, this place is a must!

I went there with friends and we had a great time. Staff is really friendly and smiley. The food was really great. They have a great selection of teriyaki beef,chicken,salmon,tofu,cod. They have tempura, tonkatsu, noodles such as udon, yakisoba and ramen. They also have Korean dishes such as Bulgogi, Deopbap, bibimbap. Of course you also have sushi and maki rolls for everyone (chicken, or fish, or vegetarian), sashimi,nigiri. They even have a lunch menu and a vegan menu. The food was really tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant.

That's a massive Win Win for me ... so why not try it? you have nothing to loose and everything to gain, I promise you make this you new favorite place to eat or take that special someone or just yourself and the family .
