Reviews of Kayal
R. C.
Haven't been for a few years, but as good as I remembered!!
Crab curry is fantastic and had the Chicken Stew for the first time, which was also full of flavours.
Highly recommend Kayal for great service and amazing food!
P. P.
The food and service was very good, the portions could be shared between two people if required or can be a very filling portion for one person. The lighting made it difficult to read the menu properly so couldn't quite read the dish descriptions.

First time here, we weren't sure if we'd get authentic cuisine because majority of customers at tables were white. But we enjoyed dining at Kayal at a table upstairs by the window. The food was tasty and well presented. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

There is an edgy vibe to Leicester high street that is an unfortunate result of the system that governs our fine cities. Enough of the politics. All it means is, be careful of leaving bikes unlocked outside, was the advice the staff member at Kayal gave.
Kayal is an establishment in Leicester. It is decorated in both awards and ornaments. It is beautiful inside. Take a look upstairs and behold the high ceilings and paintings. The upstairs terrace garden has been decked out too. An awesome social space to drink and enjoy the sunshine.
I’m new to South Indian food. Kayal creates dishes that excite the taste buds. They are simple, informed the mesero , get this ingredient, dip in batter and fry. He was being far too modest. For me, a North Indian cuisine expert, I.e., a brummie loved the coconuty notes.
The food is made to a high quality, the quality of service just needs to be ironed out to bring it up some of the best Indian restaurants.
An enjoyable experience, a mirror of Herb in many respects. Before you ask, yes, my bike is still in my possession.

Tasty food , lovely ambience and very good service. Kids loved it too. Do not forget to order authentic Vegetarian Thali, everything was yummy.
G. k.
Taste was good. We had chicken curry with appam which was quite good. Chapati could have been better. Had variety of drinks as well. Interiors were good.
V. K.
Kitchen closes at 4. We reached at 2:30. Staff was happy to accommodate us. Ordered thalassery biriyani. awesome 👌🏻. No long waiting time. Satisfied 👍
V. K.
My favourite South Indian restaurant in leicester. Great choice of Kerala Cuisine. Very polite staff and a great ambience.
M. B.
Beautiful place, polite and professional staff and amazing food. We asked a waiter for meal recommendation and got great advices.
K. F.
Excellent! Kayal were very accommodating, we booked a late night meal which we were able to preorder. The staff were great - friendly, efficient and we never felt rushed. The food was delicious. Would recommend and hope to be back, thank you!
A. A.
Lamb dosas were huge, but really tasty
S. R.
Excellent food (the levels of spice and taste were so wonderfully balanced) and attentive service. I popped in for a quick meal before travelling home but enjoyed myself so much that I stayed to enjoy more. Well done!
h. p.
Lovely South Indian food. Nice to try appam, massive Puri, lentil doughnuts. Very much enjoyed the tilapia curry.
Decent wine list.
Very tasty desserts.
Would definitely go back.

One of the best Indian restaurants in a city renowned for its Indian restaurants, specialising south Indian cuisine, especially seafood, though vegetarian options are delicious and aplenty. Kayal has a healthy eating award which I understand they achieved by experimenting with less oil, sugar, or additives in favour herbs and spices. Despite (or because of) that, the sauces were umami creams of delicious and I thought sufficiently fatty. The sadya thali is a good option for first-timers who can't decide. Table service was quick and professional in our case, and the restaurant was clearly kept clean. The wonderful décor makes Kayal a good destination for people who missed the atmosphere of dining out during the pandemic. Handicap accessible.

So good to be back at Kayal!!! And I absolutely love the addition of the roof terrace!! It makes the wait for your cocktail a bit longer, but who cares about time. Food exquisite as always. An 'eating sensation'. Highly recommend.
L. B.
First time I have ever been and oh my god.... I'm gobsmacked to how lovely and very tasty the food is!!! I had the three course meal option and it was a very decent portion sizes, giving me a sample of the most popular curries. I throughly enjoyed it. I also had a cardamon based drink that was just superb!
J. F.
The food is lovely, in particular the Business Lunch is great. Very filling and tasty.
D. S.
Delicious South Indian cuisine: Well balanced fresh curries and good breads. The service is polite and attentive. Overall a very enjoyable dinning experience.
M. K.
Came here for Saturday lunch which was not too crowded. Restaurant has a good variety of food options on the menu. Food portions are big so best to share dishes. Starters were very tasty but the mains were a bit disappointing as the beef chops were a bit too chewy. Otherwise staff were nice and helpful. Wouldn't mind giving the place another go when in Leicester. Restaurant is well decorated and spacious so don't feel crammed in.
j. d.
Stunning food as always, Kayals is hands down the best Indian food I have ever eaten.
B. K. j.
Best traditional restaurant..excellent ambience, superb place to spend time with your loved ones.
A. B.
One of the finest Indian restaurants in Leicester. Flawless customer service, speedy order and finger lickin' food can vouch for its credibility. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience the Indian cuisine at its truest potential.
D. C.
Food here is absolutely amazing and so delicious. I tend to get really disappointed with Indian food at restaurants especially when the same base sauce is used for different dishes which all end up tasting the same. Here, all dishes taste unique and very different to each individual one. We ordered a huge variety of dishes for my dads birthday a few months ago and all my extended family were amazed by how lovely all the food was. We went to eat at the restaurant on Sunday, which was very busy for a Sunday night and the quality of food was high, the food was most delicious - both starters and mains and I would highly recommend coming here to eat.
L. J.
A wide choice of unusual, delicious dishes including lots of fish and vegetarian options. Service was efficient, professional and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
w. t.
First time visit n I had very nice experience. Lovely place to eat. Food was good n authentic but not like what I had tried before. Special taste of South Indian Kerala cuisine. I had thali with mix curries & lamb masala dosa. Really enjoyed mango lassi. The ambience was so cool. Friendly n attentive staff. Good service. Located right in the city heart. If u really wanna change ur taste then u can give it a go.
B. P.
Good South Indian restaurant.delicious food and good hospitality..a young man assist us told that it’s going to close.. but his efficiency and effort he served quality food on time, really respect his hospitality…
V. R. B.
The food items were nice. But less spicy for a mallu (especially chicken curry).Nice ambiance. Staffs are nice. Overall nice
c. b.
What an amazing place, fantastic staff and the most amazing food, would highly recommend. We'll be back. 5 stars required. X
N. S.
Excellent food - specializing in dishes from Kerala and South India. We were a group of 9 and we tried different starters and mains - all of them were good. I especially liked their lamb dishes. Even mutton masala dosa was superb.
Very good value for money. Highly recommended.
D. R.

W. G.
Great staff, excellent food & service despite it being a busy rugby day. Highly recommend- best to book though to get a place
k. b.
Hotel is well situated in the city center. Ambience in good. Anyone who is missing Indian food very badly can surely have a visit. The chef has done quite a good job by trying make the food taste more indian. The main drawback here is the waiting time. It took us around 1hr to get our chicken biryani.
SUMMARY : Can have a visit now and then.
S. K.
One of the best outside India. very authentic and close to grass roots. The customer care and quality of the food commendable.
B.
Amazing meal of grilled fish and vegetables.
Excellent customer service and surroundings.
D. P.
Hi great food but the steak was a little bit overdone. Loved everything else
N. W.
Excellent food and friendly service. Recommended by Ainsley Harriet who knows about food. Reasonable prices too. Covid aware too.
H. B.
Lovely food. Very nice indian flavours. Dosa was lovely
M. H.
Delicious food. The staff really went above and beyond to help me. Thanks Kayal
V. P.
I have tried in another city and it was great. Too heavy for my stomach here. Also pancakes with curry? Seriously?
T. P.
Had a great meal out at Kayal for my partners birthday. It was my second time visiting and it never fails to deliver!
The special that contains the selection of curries is great value and they’re all really nice. I had a slight problem with my order but the staff were very quick and couldn’t do more to put it right.
J. (.
Had the Ammachi Pidiyum Kozhiyum (chicken curry with rice dumplings) it was absolutely delicious. Have been here previously and had something equally delicious (unfortunately I forget the name) but best Indian restaurant I've ever been to! And try the Piratha bread! You'll never go back to naan again.
R. E.
Lovely place to eat. Food good and staff very friendly and helpful. Special mention of Patel who was extremely polite. Already eat here regularly..::you will not be disappointed!
K. H.
It was a really nice experience of south Indian food. The staff is helpfull, the interiour design is nice, the food is tasty and has a good selection on a good price. I'm glad we had a dinner there with our friends.

S. S.
Great authentic Indian food - and when you ask for hot, you also get it. Just the way I like it - I am a happy camper!
M. E.
Superb! Well above the usual curry fare - great Nair Masala Dosa, and wonderful Mussel Molee with New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels. Friendly service and topped off with good Cobra and Mango Lassi - we shall be back!
L. H.
Really recommend the business lunch - amazing value, good food and a quick service.
M. R.
So, so good.
A wonderfully friendly Indian restaurant with fantastic food.
A. Y.
Flavours are catered more towards non-asian palates. Small place, book in advance to get a table.
L.
Amazing food and service, beautiful location. Loved every bit of my Sunday lunch here. Good portions are amazing great value for money. Highly recommended for Indian food.
D. T.
Waiters were nice polite and informative about their menu served.

R. N.
Lovely food brilliant staff wil be back
n. k.
Top nosh.
Best indian I've ever had, and I've had quite a few.
A. P.
Delicious food, especially the Kozhi Kurumulagu chicken. The lemon chutney is amazing, wish they sold it in a jar. We got the mixed poppadom/banana pre-starter and the orange coloured snack on that was just too hard to chew so we had to leave that but everything else perfect.
C. S.
It was an amazing experience of southern Indian food. The steam fish (tilapia pollichathu) tasted so good that 2 of us wished we have had ordered full instead of half. The curry lamb (cheera erachi curry) is so tender.
Will definitely try again.
J. M.
The taste is good but the prices are pretty steep. The business lunch seems to be the only value for money item.
S. A.
Really tasty food. Would def recommend the restaurant. A real jewel that serves Indian food slightly different to the norm. An unusual comedy venue upstairs too
T. R.
Delicious food. Highly recommend. Would definitely go again. Suited my gluten free diet well and have a lovely choice of dishes on the menu.
S. J.
Nice food, great service, a pleasant place to have an Indian meal, beer wine and soft drinks available, good place to eat after a night out or somewhere close to the railway station
V. S. (.
Flavourful south Indian food. Although not spicy enough for my taste it'd be great for people who can't handle spicy.
B. P. B.
Good food, great staff and felt the Indian taste..
D. j.
Amazing food.. their appam and chicken kurumulakittath was incredible.
S. B.
Fab food, very tasty, but the customer service was a step above. The staff were very helpful and went an extra mile to help. Will definitely go again when in Leicester.
S. T.
It was a lovely quaint place with a beautiful atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service was grand, the staff would check to make sure everything was alright. I will definitely visit again sometime.
D. M.
Amazing food and friendly service. Have been here a few times and can quite honestly say the best indian dishes I've ever tasted. They always seem to be busy and sometimes this means the service isn't always prompt but the food makes up for this. 5 stars
j. s.
Lovely food and staff. Will definitely be back again. Thank you for a great evening.
R. S.
Really top quality and uniquely different cuisine is served here. Always popular and busy but the place has a lively and relaxed atmosphere so it makes for a happy visit. The food is delightful and very tasty and the staff are extremely polite and will make helpful suggestions with your order. Not cheap but on the other hand definitely not over expense.
A. M.
Nice decor and good service. Only downside is fairly high prices compared to usual Indian restraunts. One Masala Dosa for 9.99.
C. M.
Great food and service, and met good people there. Visited during a short stay in Leicester and had to ask if they also have a branch in London. Can't wait to go back
V. J.
THE FISH WAS AMAZING.
Lovely restaurant, food well made and friendly staff. Been there a few times and always enjoyed it. Cool decor and a nice place to eat.
N. F.
Delicious. One of my favorites in Leicester.
The black pepper chicken and chicken stew dishes are excellent.
R. C.
Not your average curry. First visit to the Leicester branch but much like the Nottingham version it was great
m. r.
Fabulous food visiting from Birmingham and regular Indian curry eater but something completely different
F. N.
Fantastic fish Kerala cuisine
R. B.
Found this place back in 2016 and were wowed by its Keralan cuisine then and it's still just as good. Good portion sizes and friendly staff.
S. T.
Friendly helpful staff, but don't expect traditional indian dishes. This place is quirky! Food is really flavoursome, portions are ample for the hungry. Give the poppadom course a try, it comes with crisp banana chips... Really nice touch. I had a lamb and spinach dish, he had a chicken one, with a coconut rice with a difference. Amazing! And, because it was our first time there, we got 25% off voucher to use in next month! Defo going back! 😁
D. C.
Best Indian food I ever had until now, it is unbelievable.
L. J.
Friendly staff, well decorated place, lots of choices, tasty food but a bit expensive
n.
Lovely food and a friendly staff.
F. S.
My seafood curry was cooked to perfection , staff were friendly and I didn't wait long for my food to come out, lovely surroundings, would love to visit again.
P. K.
I’ve been eating food at Kayal’s for the last several years. Most things have stayed very consistent:
1. The food is brilliant
2. The service is good
3. They always get a take-away order wrong. Always.
They’ve now opened a new vegetarian branch, a few steps down the road from the parent one. Their food is excellent too.
In summary, I’d eat there again. I’d also get a take-away but leave a few minutes to check every item in detail and then wait for them to cook what you ordered in the first place!
V. V.
Went to the Kayal today for a casual lunch with my mom and daughter. We were presented with an extensive and exciting menu but following the recommendation from a member of the staff, we opted for the business lunch and starters, we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and to then to be presented with a bill that was little more £40 for three of us including drinks ...... wow Keep it up guys, we’ll be back very soon ..... do you do breakfast ?
A. B.
Kayal has become a trusted place for great cuisine in Leicester, it just so happens to be Indian food. Great. Menu choices, great flavours from South India. As a vegan, there are many options, and nicely labelled. Staff are very knowledgeable and eager to help offer you a great experience. I bring people to this place all the time.
C.
This place is amazing! we used to visit all the time when we lived in Leicester but since moving to Loughborough we haven't been, but that all changed on saturday :-) we went for a meal after a shopping trip and it was better than ever. Staff were 10/10 and so was the food.
A. A.
Incredibly good food, wonderful service and very reasonably priced. One of the best curries I've ever had. I highly recommend the thalis in this place - a selection of many fine dishes. Anyone in Leicester, whether living there or passing through, really should try this place.
A. M.
Wonderful food. We had a large family gathering and they were wonderful with suggesting breads and rices to share. The salmon curry was delicious. There was no rush from the staff for us to leave.
B. G.
Great food and ambience, Had a great evening!!!
R. R.

One of the best restaurant of its kind in my opinion. Great fish dishes and service. I've been 3 times already and always tried different things, everything is always so tasty!
G. S.
Delicious food, great service - both efficient and friendly. Beautifully decorated. We were there for 2 hours for a birthday meal and they treated us really well, I will definitely go again.

Friendly staff, well decorated place, lots of choices, tasty food but a bit expensive
R. K. R.
Took too long to deliver. Herb is anyway better!
R. R. V.
Good but little more expensive
C. S.
It was an amazing experience of southern Indian food. The steam fish (tilapia pollichathu) tasted so good that 2 of us wished we have had ordered full instead of half. The curry lamb (cheera erachi curry) is so tender.
Will definitely try again.
G. J.
Delicious food and kind, polite service
A. S.
Great food and friendly service as usual. Fish dishes are all delicious!
S. M.
Nice decoration. Friendly staff. Nice service. menu is good and diversified but quality of food not quite there. And we'll expensive. As I'm a south Indian I know about these stuff lol I once ordered a prawn curry good it was yellowish color. Then second time when I ordered it it was reddish with other taste funny is intended it?
H. S.
What amazing food! This was my first visit but won't be my last. The service is excellent : efficient and courteous but not at all intrusive. The food is wonderful. Tastes as if it has been made with fresh, good quality ingredients. The waiters recommdations were good. Prices reasonable. Looking forward to my next visit!
R. P.
Only place to go for good wholesome food. Service e was very good
D. J.
Terrific service and food. Would definately recommend the Kohzi chicken and black pepper.
d. w.
Great authentic south indian food, great variety of tastes and friendly staff Try the set menu to get a variety of 7 currys, starter and dessert. Says for one but could very well feed two.
D. C.
I had been told food was great and admit it's probably good value if you choose wisely. I've had better food, frankly, but l would go again and try different dishes. We actually had a huge amount of food at a fair price. Pleasant staff.
P. K.
Upscale Keralan restaurant with diverse food absolutely packed with flavour! The staff were very friendly and were able to help us narrow down the difficult choice of what to eat. Ended up sharing the Thali with the Kayal fish curry, both were sumptuous.
We had an absolute feast for a reasonable price, would thoroughly recommend.
Disclaimer: I love authentic Indian food.
I.
Never been here before, but recommended by a friend of a friend.
Glorious meal, just ordered way too much food.
R. H.
This is by far one of the most nicest indian restaurants in the city. Genuine proper authentic food. None of this cheap tacky curry like other places in the city. Was very impressed and will ne returning soon. Waiter made a small mistake with my meal but it was instantly fixed with no complaints. Instantly matter of 2 minutes.
p. f.
Very enjoyable experience, food and service was outstanding, good value for money, would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Leicester
c. e.
Food excellent, everywhere was clean staff friendly. Downside it was quite cold due to windows being open which we put it down to government rules on ventilation
c. W.
Really nice food.. we both enjoyed it.. good prices and a nice change with the food on the menu.. iv never had soup at an Indian restaurant but it was lovely.. I would recommend this place to anybody
S. A.
Food is ok, not the best. I ate alot of seafood whilst my family ate vegetarian. Found the squid too chewy. The seafood curry was just a tilapia overload. I highly recommend they work on the seasoning, lack seasoning in most dishes. out of all the 6 dishes I tried I recommend their fried spiced doughnut. Otherwise as a central location it's very easy to get to. Parking is readily available with a walk. There's good space for kids and prams too.
H. C.
Always amazing food, great service. Was so lovely to come back to you. Felt very safe. One , if not our favourite places to eat. Thankyou all gery much 🙏🌱💚
N. S.
Beautiful south Indian cuisine, situated 5 minutes away from the train station. They offer a range of traditional South Indian foods, as well as alcohol and soft drinks. During the week you can get the lunch time deal for a fiver, perfect if you are in town or working and want a cheap but tasty lunch. I recommend getting the strawberry or mango Lassi!
J. D.
Tried a business lunch. It was well presented with lots of little pots with different curries around a large pot of rice and a large pancake dosa. Nice to have lots of different flavours on one plate and this was popular with customers and at £5.95 was a good price too.
I had a large glass of wine. It didn't look large as it was in a massive balloon glass. This cost as much as my lunch did at £5.95. Thought it was expensive so may just have water next time 😉 Nice for a one off treat and would go back again..
G. S.
All the food we had on our table was delicious was delicious, without exception. If you're looking for something that isn't your standard BIR (British Indian Restaurant) fayre give this a go.
Service was a little stressed and slow that night hence the 4 stars.
P. G.
What a lovely experience with authentic South Indian cuisine! Service was prompt, friendly. A great place for variety worth visiting again and again. 5 stars no doubt!
K. L.
Starters were ok. The Tilapia fish curry was perfect. Probably the best fish curry I have had. The chicken biryani was also very nice with a traditional taste. Next time I will just order mains. Highly recommend this place.
A. N.
Both ambience and food was up to expectations.
N. W.
Amazing food and value. Will certainly be back for more!
F. K.
Really nice, clean place and well decorated. I fund the staff incredibly polite and helpful, and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.
A. B.
Service was great. Food was delicious. The restaurant had a lively buzz. Our Man Marshall took our orders and made sure we were well looked after. Will definitely be going back.
S. R. (.
Ordered through deliveroo tonight, the dosa was amazing and the depth of flavour on the fish curry that was part of the thali was absolutely spectacular. Can't wait to come and visit once this is all over!
G. M.
Food outstanding,excellent service
I. P.
Eaten at kayal twice now in big groups and both times its been absolutely amazing for all of us. The depth of flavour and delicately spiced food is incredible with some real gems that we'd never tried before like their lentil doughnuts or steamed rice balls in creamy coconut sauce. I had the mixed seafood curry and it was so prefectly cooked, including one of the biggest juiciest scallops I've ever eaten. Not only is the quality great, they also give you very generous portions; both times we've not only had a great dinner but also a great lunch the next day that we'd taken away in doggy bags from the night before! Can't recommend enough.
S. N.
Great food and ambience. Very few places to experience indian (real) food in UK. Kayal never disappoints. Slightly longer waiting time but we turned up unannounced. So all the stars!
N. S.
We ate here as a family on 8th December. We found it was a little pricey, however, as the food and service were excellent the cost was easy to overlook. Many thanks to Marshall for taking the time to answer all our questions in relation to their wonderful menu
A. P.
First time. Went with no booking still found us a table for 4. Decor is good, hygine looked good. Bt the food well that was a whole other ball game!! Amazing!! A real treat from south India. Highly recommended. Staff and service very good also.
Best dish: chicken puffs to start and crab curry for main! :D
M. B.
Awesome. I think it's the best curry I've had. Will definitely return.
If you are expecting a Tikka Masala, look elsewhere. Different and exciting food. Large portions, but they will provide a takeaway for what you can't eat.
L. A.
Went there for mothers day and didnt have a reservation. They accomodated us considering it was packed. Which was great and their service was very good. Really appreciate the fact they manage to fit us in.
The food was also amazing wasn’t expecting a lot but very happy to be proven wrong. Had the kingfish curry absolutely flavourful!! Will absolutely come back. Thanks for the lovely experience
D. A.
Good food and service. Can't comment on price as had a pre arranged set menu with a few colleagues. Enjoyed all the dishes, some had a reasonable amount of heat but nothing was too spicy. Will go back again.
M. M.
This place is amazing. Been here twice now, mainly to see if it was as good as I remembered. The thali is something else! And yet I still had order-envy looking at other peoples' plates. Don't be put off by the prices being slightly above the ordinary, the food here is anything but ordinary. Totally deserving of all the awards it's won.
R. N.
A very good restaurant. One of the finest. Bit crowded because of the good food. Typical tasty Kerala food. Bit expensive but worth the money.
Service is really good. They serve the order very fast. spice levels can be customised. Parking available in the nearby Street. Easy to find place. Drinks available.
Typical Kerala biryani, fish curry available. Would be better if you pre-book a table. Because of the crowd u might have to wait a little longer to get the seats.
G. B.
I’m here right now and the food here is simply fantastic - really different, perfectly cooked, lovely staff and packed on a Tuesday evening- one of the best curries I’ve ever eaten and that’s saying something
M. B.
I have eaten at Kayal four or five times and never been disappointed. Their seafood dishes are particularly great, the Kayal Fish Curry is one of the best curries I've ever eaten.
If you live in Leicester and haven't been to Kayal then you're missing out. It gets really busy on most nights so I'd advise booking
S. D.
This restaurant is an South Indian Keralite cusine. The food was really awesome and price is bit reasonable. It cost us £45 for 2. The location is in the city centre and its quite hard to found a parking space. The kurumulagu Chicken curry was my favorite. The service is really good and they are very friendly in approach.
J. W.
My favourite restaurant for a treat. The food is south Indian cuisine, which is absolutely delicious and not overpowering. The menu gives a description of each dish and the history behind it.If I could eat here every day I would.Top restaurant.
L. P.
It's fine, cheap.
Food is on the bland side of the Indian food, decor is trying too hard.
Food is fresh, but as said before lacking in spices.
If you want fresh, cheap and heavy on the spices Indian food, like it should be, I would go to Mithass.
T. W.
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Couldn't recommend more 👌
O. S.
Loved it here, the food was great and really different to other Indian food. The service was a little slow but it was very busy. Definitely would go back
l. k.
Fantastic place! Staff were friendly, food was amazing. Went on Valentine's day, it was done up lovely and everyone was given a rose. Lovely place
S. N.
Good ambience, very friendly malayalee (Keralites) waiters. Non Veg dishes are very delicious. Very nicely prepared. However veg dishes ( I am pure Veg) are let downs.. filled with coconut milk. Even though I like coconut and the taste of the dish was okay, after the meal, my stomach started to ache. As I eat only veg, there is no other options for me and we never went back there after the first visit. But still my wife used to say the non-veg dishes were really yummy .. My advice, if you are a non vegetarian and if you like Kerala (South Indian) food .. this is a great place to go.. for pure veg .. please look something else ..
R. S.
The chefs special lamb curry and potato and paneer dosa were delicious. The service was great too. Would highly recommend going. We will be returning when we go to Leicester next. :)
K. P.
Dosa!!!! Pay more and get the lamb curry. It was phenomenal. The breads are great and so different. The staff were friendly and amazingly helpful without being pushy. Will go back the next time I'm there
C. W.
The food was really tasty and social distancing was well adhered to. Service was excellent, our waiter couldn't do enough for us.

Just amazing food. A must try restaurant. Excellent service and great value for the sensational cuisine.

I have eaten at Kayal over many years and recommended our own guests from the Spindle Lodge over the years. The food is excellent, as are the friendly staff. We always get excellent reports from our guests who eat there.
S. D.
Great place and have been going there for years. I'd recommend the Tilapia fish dish, takes a while to do but every minute wait is worth it! Staff are friendly and good location. Top notch.

The respiratory physiology team at Glenfield we’re given a free curry today as a very kind offer for health workers it was a lovely curry and tasted divine it was very much appreciated during the current climate and I will definitely visit when we are able to go out. Thank you very much for your kind gesture.
D. S.
First visit to Leicester and first experience of Kerela cuisine. Wonderful reception with menu explained. We tried the Thali, one veggie one no. Cannot think when we have been so wonderfully surprised. Soup; seafood & lentil followed by 7 small pots of various curries (4 common to both plates) + 2 breads. Warm dessert to finish. Service attentive and helpful throughout. Finally the bill was as delightful as the meal. We will be back.
M. S.
Very nice place to eat. Good food.very good staff. Nice and very good service. Definitely will visit again.
Z. p. j.

Great food and different from the normal Indian restaurants. Will be going again. Prices seemed a bit high but our overall bill was actually lower than expected.
B. A.
Absolutely beautiful food, their South Indian based food is brilliant especially the dosa! Staff are friendly and the restaurant has a well decorated and pleasant ambiance
B. B.
Great service, fantastic regional food, rather than the standard Indian restaurant menu. Have had two delicious meals here, will be back for more!
B. C.
Excellent food excellent service good value what more do you want. Go there now! Unless you're vegetarian in which case go to the sister restaurant across the road.
P. H.
So tasty! And the staff was very pleasant as well... I need to dig down a bit more about the owner as the '47 Royal Enfield proudly standing in the central position is making a real statement...
D. T.
Superb food, very good attentive service. We had the Tali and the portions are very generous. Highly recommend, we will definitely return.
S. Q.
South Indian food at its best. Absolutely amazing food and great service, all within what I believe to be great value for money. I would highly recommend Kayal to anyone that likes South Indian food 👏🏽
R. N.
Love it will be back soon

Lovely food as always and friendly service. However, the main course took ages in coming. Still, it may be due to the food cooked fresh.

I didn't eat here but came for the comedy in the upstairs function room. It was a good room but there's only one entrance and it got very crowded in between shows.
w. d.
Just amazing food. A must try restaurant. Excellent service and great value for the sensational cuisine.
N. S.
We ate here as a family on 8th December. We found it was a little pricey, however, as the food and service were excellent the cost was easy to overlook. Many thanks to Marshall for taking the time to answer all our questions in relation to their wonderful menu
A. H.
The respiratory physiology team at Glenfield we’re given a free curry today as a very kind offer for health workers it was a lovely curry and tasted divine it was very much appreciated during the current climate and I will definitely visit when we are able to go out. Thank you very much for your kind gesture.
G. B.
I’m here right now and the food here is simply fantastic - really different, perfectly cooked, lovely staff and packed on a Tuesday evening- one of the best curries I’ve ever eaten and that’s saying something
A. K.
Highly recommended! Fabulous food! Great atmosphere! Love this place
D. M.
Kayal has been around for a while now and it never ceases to impress with its wide selections of lesser seen Indian dishes. The service is great, very helpful but not so it becomes annoying. The atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly. I went with a group of 6 of us and we decided to share our curries as it gave us a chance to sample lots. All 6 were so unique and tasty! So I can't recommend just one dish but whatever you pick it is sure to be great. It is to be said that Kayak has opened a second restaurant on the same road that serves just vegetarian and vegan dishes. That is just as brilliant as this establishment so for any non meat eaters it is a must.
M. C.
The food was excellent. Lobo served us and he was very helpful. Since we were not familiar with Southern Indian food (from Kerala) he suggested what options to select, the portion size, and how many options to select. If it hadn't been for him we would have ordered more than we would have been able to eat. The lamb dosa, which was delicious, is almost enough on it's own to fill you up. Nice ambience, place very clean.
S. R. (.
Ordered through deliveroo tonight, the dosa was amazing and the depth of flavour on the fish curry that was part of the thali was absolutely spectacular. Can't wait to come and visit once this is all over!
R. D. S.
Amazing food. Very unusual and different menu. Large group tried many dishes and all were impressed

E. S.
Really nice food, good portions and affordable prices. Great place for real Indian cousin.
H. S.
Ok food I wouldn't give it a 5 star as I wasn't used to the type of flavours. As I prefer more spicy food this was more bitter and sweet.
d. k.

I'm South Indian, so I'm biaised, but they've successfully captured the essence of good Malayali cuisine while presenting it in away that's also approachable for a western palate.
R. R. V.
Good but little more expensive
C. “. W.
