Reviews of Sonrisa Comida Argentina

Nice evening meal out :)
Lovely decor when you walk in. Almost rustic vibes.
We ended up having a few starters…and then some more…and then some more!
So we came to an Argentina style restaurant. And went full Spanish style with tapas of starters 😂 unfortunately I didn’t get pictures of all the food because my stomach was too hungry!
All the food was cooked really well and fresh. You could tell it hadn’t been sitting around on the pass for ages.
The waitress was lovely and helpful in suggesting her favourites on the menu and trying to pick something out based on our own personal likes.
The food was delicious good cocktails to accompany it.
It was a busy evening however we never felt like we were being rushed by the staff like you get in some places.
All in all, a good night and would recommend to someone who hasn’t been before!
P. K.
Never disappoints. It's a little on the steep end for the portions but my gosh it is delicious. Unique cocktails and flavours. Staff were lovely. I hate repeating a restaurant but I couldn't help going back. Just brace yourself for the bill
K. P.
Wonderful places to eat, great decor and food is awesome tasting.
Will be back to try more soon I hope. All the waiters and staff who served us were really polite and welcoming.

Lovely food , very well presented, friendly staff and a great atmosphere . Really enjoyed it and will return.

The food was good, but not the best I’ve had in Leicester! The staff was extremely slow! Which was annoying! We had to wait so long for them to bring the bill!
Expensive for what is!
Personally I felt the food didn’t have enough salt for my taste
We went there for a birthday lunch! So the server insisted on getting us Shots after we said its a birthday, even though we didn’t ask, he kept asking us to bring it so I thought it was complimentary but we were charged £26 for 10 shots! So when you go, make sure you clear it with them!

First time checking this place out. It was a Tuesday evening, so it eas empty, but gradually started getting busy.
Great ambiance. Food was tasty. But there were quite a few minuses...
Firstly, the portions were a bit modest. I tried the pork belly and still felt hungry later on. My friend had a portion of oasta and she was pretty happy with the size, hence, modest..
They were out of a few things, in terms of hot beverages, but bless them, they tried to please my friends by offering anything else they still had in the bar. If you are lactose intolerant, you won't find oat or coconut milk, if you'll want a coffee.
Overall I'd say it's a place that does nice comfy food, but needs to up their game a but... Hence my 3⭐
Oh! My big issue was that the restrooms were out of order and the waiters weren't actually aware of it and everyone had to find out for themselves and then queue for the disabled toilet.. 🙈

Great building and decor. But it was cold in there.
The Service is good but be aware, the food is cooked when prepared and served when ready. So not all the dishes arrive at the same time. Some were served on cold plates too. So waiting for the veg to go with the wonderful fish wasn't an option. The flavours are great though.
The portions are small, in some cases tiny. So we ordered more as we were hungry.
Biggest disappointment is the price of some of the dishes £4.40 for two small slices of garlic bread and tomatoe! Really!
All beautiful but £69 for a lunch for two with no alcohol and little meat. Is very expensive.
Sad really because it was lovely but really didn't feel like good value overall.

Amazing place you have to try if you are in to South American cuisine and great cocktails and drinks a really good place to come to.
It's part tapas and part normal main course dining. You could have lots of small plates or have a couple and move to a large plate item . The food is cooked beautifully and everything is presented wonderfully. The cocktails and choices of dinks are brilliant I would recommend have one of the cocktails they do taste amazing and great to start the night with. I think this is somewhere I will visit more often as it was such a great experience
S. H.
Lovely ambience and the food was really good. Pity the portion sizes were not in keeping with the prices. I think this is a place for a annual visit rather than a monthly.
H. F.
Wonderful food - we just ordered lots of the little portions and shared them to get a variety of tastes. Good drinks too - the cocktails were great fun. Staff were very helpful, as we had a 2-year old with us and they went out of their way to accommodate him. Definitely going back!

Excellent attentive service by Filip and really lovely food and atmosphere. The kind of place Leicester needs! Halibut and artichoke dishes were my favourites.

Had a great meal here. Like others said this isn't the cheapest but the quality is excellent. The calamari was buttery soft, empanada was delicious and crisp. The main dish of flat iron steak was very tasty- excellent chimichurri. We also had acorn fed pork which was excellent. Vegetable side dishes were tasty without being distracting. Drinks were very refreshing to go with it.

Great location, the place is well decorated, the food and the staff are also great. It is pricy but it is a good experience. I recommend it.

Service was excellent and the food was delicious from the starter to the mains although you don't have a choice on the 10% service charge.
H. R.
Good food very spicy steak but not bad.
Cocktails are the high light here.
Beautiful restaurant with good presentation
T. C.
Really good quality food. Very pricey. Slow service.

I enjoyed my dinner at Sonrisa. I liked the interiors and the soft lights. The staff were extremely good and friendly. Each interaction was great. The food was mostly good as well. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the chicken arroz that tasted a bit bland and had chunks of chicken skin. Besides, everything was great.
J. G.
So good that I forgot to take pictures. Service is professional yet friendly - food really good quality.
They were out of stock of a few items at the time of my visit but I think we all understand supply chain issues in this day and age with Covid / Brexit.
The dishes we ordered were very good quality, and were delivered to the table in great timing.
Will definitely return !
P. S.
Nice place! Not too many options for vegetarians/vegans. Food was good and nice atmosphere. Was informed that this is not really authentic Argentinian food.. more commercial. Little expensive

Very busy Saturday night. Food was very good and worth waiting for. Table at 8 but did not have time for dessert before 11pm taxi. Good night out but will try a midweek night next time.
M. E.
The food would have been great but it wasn't what I was expecting. Eg a spinach dish made no mention of tomato on the menu but tomato was all I could taste and octopus with a "risotto" had no rice at all. But it was all nicely done.
f. m.
Had a lovely meal there last night. Despite being busy, the food was both delicious and quick. The service was appropriately attentive including the maitre d'. 100% would dine there again
G. C.
really good food, dishes served at different times, really good friendly staff. good cocktails, good wine. clean and all staff has masks worn correctly. smoke alarm did keep going off and it became quite smoky but nothing that ruined the experience. 100% recommend, a really nice meal out.
B. A.
Amazing cocktails, lovely food. Bit on the pricey side but great for a night out!
N. L. B.
We have had our dinner there last night, and we can say we will definitely be back if we visit Leicester again.
Shame we don't have this place in Newcastle.
The staff have been friendly, brilliant with our toddler and the food was delicious.
Thank you so much!
R. P.
Great food, decor was nice but service was a bit poor. Had to wait for 15mins to order our drinks. Our used plates got left on the table for way too long.

Went alone for my birthday as my partner was poorly. I was seated right away and told a drink for me was on the way. The lovely server then took my order and the food arrived hot and freshly cooked. Everything was absolutely delicious as always! Highly recommend the artichokes, mushroom croquettes and chicken parilla. My pina coladas were just as tasty! Lovely atmosphere and great interior. Have been here three times now and will definitely be back soon. My best wished to the extremely friendly staff and manager/front of house who made me feel so welcome.

Visited with a group of colleagues for an after work get together.
The tapas was good and good value, the staff were welcoming and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Great location, the place is well decorated, the food and the staff are also great. It is pricy but it is a good experience. I recommend it.

Lovely food and lovely service.
G. P.
Location is great, venue is stunning, service was fantastic, food was delicious (portions look small but are filling), price was reasonable.
We had 3 courses with wine, beet, cocktails and mocktails ALL fantastic.
C. G.
Love this place and the staff were so nice. Went in late lunchtime following disappointing shopping outing and it made the day worthwhile. Tapas type menu but delicious (MY WIFE DOESN'T like octopus fortunately)
G. C.
Interesting and different food, slightly let down by a couple of dishes.
Star was the cod loin, and both our desserts (orange polenta cake and moscovado pudding).
Our other main dishes (octopus and halibut) were ok, the latter was very expensive and therefore poor value. Other sides (cabbage and artichokes) were fine and worked well.
Weakest dish was the cauliflower which was just florets with a garlic butter, which was properly cooked but unreasonably expensive for such a basic and frankly quite unremarkable dish.
Will definitely return and try some of the other dishes. Probably have the same desserts again though!
J. B.
Lovely food and a nice wine. The service was excellent (thanks to Angelika and the manager) and the atmosphere was great!
Definitely worth a visit.
D. B.
Delicious and theatrical cocktails, wonderful staff and gorgeous ambience; an excellent spot if you're after some fancy drinks
T. C.
Really good quality food. Very pricey. Slow service.

It's a rare occasion when I get to go out and have a meal. Son risa exceeded my expectations, naturally I ordered a few of the smaller dishes and went for the fillet steak. Food arrived promptly and the steak was cooked to perfection. The experience was made even better because our host 'Filip' was very helpful in food and drinks selection. Staff like that are very hard to come by these days, he showed genuine passion in the cuisine.
C. F.
Amazing food - tastes incredible and a really nice evening out. Lovely atmosphere and great cocktails too.

Had a delicious meal here on Thursday in Leicester, served by a very friendly and helpful waiter called Phillip. He took care to explain the various options available, and make recommendations.
The food is tapas style, with some larger dishes available. It is fairly expensive, but the quality was superb.
The building has been very nicely refurbished, and this added to the ambience.
P. P.
Drinks and atmosphere was nice for a Friday dinner. Food was OK, alot of dishes seemed to be under seasoned.
L. W.
Really nice interiors and relaxed atmosphere. Called in without a reservation for a couple of drinks and were put in shoddy seats right by the door despite it being pretty empty. Got charged £9 for a medium glass of wine which took 20minutes to arrive, feels a bit steep -almost London prices, didn't feel worth it somehow, maybe if the service was great - but it wasn't.
L. T.
The best brunch spot in Leicester! Thank you Mariana for the amazing service! We will be coming back soon !
G. E.
Really nice restaurant. Good menu and kind staff
A. S.
I visited last weekend and had a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant is close to main attractions (i. e. cathedral, museum of Richard III, and shops).
Decor is very appealing - interiors and space are arranged to offer a cosy and warm atmosphere.
Service and food were very good. Staff was welcoming, kind and attentive. Food and drinks were delivered after a short wait.
Food was tasty. Portions, however, were a bit small. I ordered chicken parrilla. Food was fresh, but the portion was minimal. The dish was very well presented. Perhaps, increasing the portion a bit more could have helped to reach a five stars.
Overall, it was a lovely experience.
S. A.
The customer service and restaurant is fantastic. The drinks are amazing and the staff are very attentive and give a very theatrical experience. The only criticism I have is that they don't do a children's menu, although they have smaller plates problem is the kids will not eat all the fancy trimmings and garnishes, and it is quite expensive, but would still rate 5 stars as its a great place for drinks and great customer service and if you don't have kids then it's fine. Great place for a date or catching up with friends.

We went to Son Risa for my sisters birthday. I have to say the food was incredible! The flavours and choice was just amazing, so were the cocktails! The staff were so lovely and made my sisters day bringing her a special cocktail on the house and dessert. All the staff were so upbeat and attentive. We were told that it was a mix of experienced and non experienced staff however, I couldn’t tell the difference as the service was spot on from them all. The only disappointment was that they did not have the prawns or sea bass available as they had ran out! So I guess I need to visit again! Definitely without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Leicester.
p. e.
Wow 😍 the food was amazing, love the fact I could have the choice of medium meal 👌🏾 lovely staff, would definitely recommend..
J. G.
Have been looking forward to going here ever since hearing about it.
Had really high expectations and they did not disappoint.
From the flaming cocktails and dry ice shots from the super talented bar manager Ross, to the best steak I,ve ever had in this country.
All the staff were really attentive and efficient , making sure we were well looked after throughout.
Food was perfect and we didn't have to wait too long for the different courses to arrive.
Reasonably price especially for what we had to eat and drink.
We will definitely be coming back soon, can not wait.
Well done everyone at Sonrisa Leicester for a fab experience.
J. H.
Great food, friendly staff good atmosphere.
H. G.
Popped in after work to try this new Argentinian tapas restaurant. Great food and staff super friendly and efficient ..great vibe and loved the decor.keep up the good work
J. E.
Great for meat eaters, limited for vegetarians and I'd imagine impossible for vegans. Quite pricey for the High Street, although that might depend how many tapas dishes you choose! Service was very attentive and certainly there didn't seem to be any 'just opened' issues. It would be nice to have the option of outdoor seating, especially as so many other nearby places do.
V.
Drinks are lovely but very pricey
Food is limited for vegetarians
Staff are all brilliant
M. P.
On a Sunday night it was just the two of us... reasonable food and friendly staff.
J. A.
Beautiful venue and the food I had was delicious however...the vegetarian options were extremely limited to a few small plates (similar to starters) and sides. Not one main or larger dish was vegetarian which was disappointing. If I had been able to access the menu in advance (I couldn't find it online) this would have put me off coming. Lots of potential here but please add a few more options for vegetarians.
A. M.
Came for a birthday meal with family. Gluten free and low carb options are good. Really enjoyed dinner and the cocktails are really impressive. Pork Belly and flatiron steak are delicious and the broccoli too.
Staff are friendly and very attentive.
R. B.
Great atmosphere! Lovely tapas style dishes which could of had more food on them tbh. However the cocktails were great ,young lady called Noor went through the drinks menu she is a real credit to the sonrisa team !
J. A.
Restaurant is nice. Food is really full of taste. Drinks are enjoyable. Nevertheless the amount of food per dish seems a bit small (example: octupus had 1/2 a tentacle) so even if you ask 3 dishes per person you can still feel hungry.
Also, as from a Argentinian/Spanish background I feel the type of meat did not have the classical cut from Argentina.
All workers are very kind and fast (Maria was out waitress).
It is the type of restaurant you would go on a date, but not with your family to have a big meal.
W. L.
Excellent service a little rushed but excellent. The food was delicious without faults - just praise for the establishment. we will come back more often for sure
c. c.
Quite popular, reservation is definitely recommended. Great food and fantastic cocktails, in a great location too.
D.
Great food and even better service. Well done to the team
L. B.
Was walking past and fancied a drink with my wife on Friday night at peak time. No seats inside (to be expected) but plenty outside, the service was great and fast and the gentleman that served us was very polite. Thank you for making our night slightly better even when you were so busy.
R. R.
We loved our visit. Food was delicious. Service really attentive and drinks were yummy. The atmosphere is also really lively and fun. A brilliant place to take guests from out of town. We will be back!
Y. E. A.
I went today with 3 friends and we ordered 15 dishes between us and they were all amazing! The service was great and the restaurant has a great vibe and decor. Will definitely be going back again and will recommend to friends!
C. D.
Absolutely stunning food and drinks, service was really great! The only downside is the high price and the service charge which they put on for you.
D. M.
Lovely time with a good selection of drinks and varied tapas dishes.
C. H.
Absolutely amazing food and cocktails. Great service. Will sure to be back.
F. H.
Really lovely food the staff were excellent a lovely friendly atmosphere well done and thank you
S. H.
Great atmosphere in a really nice old building. The staff were very friendly. We had a good mix of dishes and we were really happy with all of them - the flat iron steak was mouth-wateringly incredible!

OPENING NIGHT AT SONRISA LEICESTER
I’ve been looking forward to this venue opening in Leicester as it’s as close to Excellent quality Spanish cuisine as I can get locally.
Taking its inspiration from Buenos Aires there is a good mix of Argentinian, Spanish & Italian dishes on the menu. The drinks menu also has the same with the addition of some outstanding cocktails.
Booking was easy & I would definitely recommend registering your details via their website to keep up to date with latest news & offers. I wouldn’t normally choose to eat somewhere on opening night but with indoor dining finally being allowed, I had full confidence in the restaurant delivering a great hospitality experience.
On arrival, it was obvious that all COVID safety measures were in place. We were greeted at the door by a member of the management team who was friendly & professional, showing us to our table & introducing us to our waitress who gave us the food menus to peruse, the drinks menus were already on our table and we asked for a cocktail recommendation. We decided to go with the one recommended an El Fuego, I chose a small glass of the Madri Exceptional & a bottle of water . Our drinks arrived promptly & there was plenty of theatre in the making of the cocktail.
The latin vibe was apparent with the background music & buzz of the open kitchen and the front house staff all busy, even the impromptu fire alarm added to the evening and wasn’t an issue as these things happen, this week is the soft opening which is also fully booked.
This is definitely a true Argentinian restaurant with a refined but relaxed atmosphere & somewhere to visit regularly not just for special occasions for anything from a drink & some platitos or for the more substantial dishes such as Mariscos, verduras, pasta & arroz, ensaladas, carne or for a sweet tooth the postres.
There is also a Parrillada section for real carnivore, Argentinian cuisine isn’t really known as vegetarian/vegan friendly but the options available are all dishes I would happily order on their own as you can tell the produce has been sourced carefully throughout the menu.
I would recommend ordering a minimum of 4 small plates per person unless you are ordering off the Parrillada section where I would add 2 or 3 small plates to be shared.
our meal was fantastic value for money & would highly recommend you visit.
I predicted this would be a game changer for the Leicester food scene and our visit confirmed that. It joins a handful of hospitality businesses that I consider to be worth returning to in the city centre.
K. R.
Great food, drinks, atmosphere and service.
I would say its definitely over priced for Leicester especially with the portions being so small.
Expect to spend at least £50ph with 2 drinks min.
Would defo come back but probably eat a snack before lol
p. e.
Great cocktails and service. Try the mystery birthday shots
S. D.
Scandal - Vegan goes to Argentine steak restaurant, and bamboozles staff with a selection of allergens on the first weekend of opening, and comes away disappointed, outraged and offended!
Well shock horror, I looked at the menu before booking, double checking the menu's, weighed up the Pros and Cons of visiting a restaurant just opened after a terrible lockdown, considered the obvious commitment someone had made to Leicester in these trying times, and concluded "Hell Yes, I'm in" and was not disappointed one bit, magnificent steak, and salad, a bottle of the finest Melbec (each) followed up with some absolutely glorious cocktail's - all this in stunning surroundings and a fabulous piece of architecture.
All in all a great night that I won't forget for a long time.
P. C.
Food was fantastic, great quality for the price and the staff were helpful for when I was picky with wanting to move tables, thank you :)

Rare to find the Decor, Service and food all exceptionally good as it was here.

Very nice atmosphere, great service, food is great. Just found it a bit to expensive for the food, especially due to the portion size.
