Had a wonderful tasting menu during our stay in liverpool and it was the highlight of our stay. Started with champagne and had a lovely bottle of valpolicella. You can see into the kitchen and everything looked sooo calm. My favourite course ( and the lady next to me who we got chatting to!) was the scallop. Daz thought that the lamb 3 ways was the star. Beautiful interior which was spotless . Great service from staff

5 stars is not enough. The food here is seriously wonderful. It was our first time and was a lively way to spend Valentine's evening. It defines fine dining but is not overly formal. You feel comfortable as sin as you step in and given a warm welcome by the concierge. From the chef's snacks through to the dessert your mouth was watering in anticipation of the next bite. No joke! We also decided on a flight of wine each and each wine selected by the sommelier was a perfect accompaniment for the course you had. Seriously good value. Atmosphere was welcoming, relaxing and couples talked between tables. Interesting history to the building as well for history buffs. Prefect night and definitely will go back, hopefully sooner rather than later. Set some money aside for a taste extravaganza and an experience that'll last in your memory for a long time!

While the food was good for the most part, with attentive presentation and local ingredients, and the venue itself beautiful, a subpar service ruined the experience this evening. One should not have to ask for more water three times during a service, nor wait 20 minutes staring at empty dessert plates before being able to ask for a cheque. I've had more attentive service at a texmex in Brooklyn. We are in Liverpool from New York, and I was looking for a special way to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary this evening at The Art School. Typically, after sharing news of a special occasion, a fine dining restaurant will do something small, personal, to indicate the occasion. For many, this is a small extra course. The Art School staff didn't even acknowledge verbally it with a "congratulations". One last point: in fine dining, it is the little things that matter. Turning over our menu to find a pre-theatre prix-fixe menu didn't set the right tone. All in all, an unfortunately disappointing experience.

Excellent unobtrusive service. Tasting menu with wine flight came in at around £200pp for dinner. Well worth it for the experience. Highlight was a piece of venison presented perfectly with an orange sauce. If you've ever wondered if fine dining is worth a go, I would recommend this as a place to start learning.

A beautiful space and a great restaurant. If you go, you really should go for the tasting menu. Wonderful ingredients and sensitive preparation created an excellent meal. Even during the tier 2 restrictions the staff were able to warm and relaxed.

Booked the chambers for drinks and the lantern room for dinner, a family birthday celebration for my sister. Everybody had the best of times. The service, nobody could fault. All staff were more than amazing. All experienced in their area. Food was delicious. Wine selection was extensive and the knowledge and recommendations from the lady that attended to us, was impressive. The cocktail barman was also impressive and he was happy to create cocktails specifically for the individual. Well worth the expense. Thank you to everybody involved with our early evening event on 25 September 2021, you are all AMAZING! Look forward to the next time.

Outstanding. I've been here before a few years ago and it was amazing. Came again recently with my partner for a birthday treat and it didn't disappoint. We tried the menu excellence, which was incredible, the menu has something for every taste I think. I got to try some lovely flavours I've never had before which was nice. The food in terms of taste and presentation was faultless in my opinion. The portion sizes where just right and I was very satisfied when we'd finished, it's very rich food. The staff are very attentive, but not overbearing or pretentious, if you unsure about something they will be happy to help or explain. Can't fault the service received at all. There is also a very nice bar in the basement which we went to before / after our meal. Lots of classic drinks and cocktails available at reasonable prices, it's also table service as well which is great. Can't recommend this establishment highly enough and I look forward to my next visit!

Very high expectations for this place, especially knowing the story behind the chef and his passion about food! Presentation of the dishes-5 stars - they all looked amazing. Welcome and staff - 4 stars - nice enough welcome and treatment nothing exceptional (some of the dishes could have been better explained). Food flavour - 3 stars a surprising disappointment. Of the 5 course menu only one was exceptional, 4 other were average at best! The combination of flavours didn’t create any enhanced sensory experience and I thought I could have experienced the same flavours from lower/middle range type restaurants. Price- 1 star - too expensive for what it is, unfortunately. The food didn’t warrant the price tag. Sadly disappointed with this one but this is just our experience.

A bottle of wine poured way too quickly - a quarter of a bottle per glass - so felt rushed to drink it and order more. The wine wasn't opened at the table which was strange. Sparkling water was topped up twice with tap water ...just not what you would expect in such a nice restaurant. Needs to be addressed.

I come here annually for a get together with a friend and take the afternoon off work for it. A gift to each other that beats the endless girlie exchange of candles and shower gel. The food is nothing short of amazing with a chef who is a real scientist, playing taste and texture against each other in every mouthful. This year the atmosphere was more lively, with different groups of people... Last year was quite intimidating with clientele who might have been so well off that they didn't work at all. Both times THE rock star chef could be viewed through the window in the kitchen. Good. Not off signing books or making TV shows. And this year he came around to each table and let me get a selfie. I'm a huge fan now but can only afford to visit a few times per year.

Visited on a Saturday for lunch. A party of five and we all chose the tasting menu. It is expensive but worth it. We did not go for the wine pairings but chose two very good Italian wines (Falanghina and Primitivo di Manduria), again not exactly cheap but very good indeed. In the end we were a bit rushed as they needed to prepare for evening service (which was odd given it was not even four o' clock). However, they deserve full marks for flavour and presentation. I am sure they will become even better

Received warm welcome and attentive staff who took our coats. The restaurant does nouvelle cuisine. Had the Christmas menu a soup taster and some warm bread before our starter. Had the partridge and then the pheasant for main course which was delicious. For dessert there was a selection to share with other members of our party. The restaurant was very busy with all the tables taken by the end of our meal but there is a relaxed unhurried atmosphere.

We could not fault our meal - the tasty flavours, varied textures and great ingredients that were presented beautifully and tasted delicious. The sommelier was exceptionally helpful (hopefully he will see this), providing great advice about what to choose (notably the dessert wine) which he also informed us we could buy to also take away. We celebrated our wedding anniversary today so wanted to try some fine dining. We were greeted in the bar by lovely welcoming staff, our coats were taken and hung up and our champagne arrived immediately with some lovely canapés. Once seated in the restaurant the whole atmosphere changed. I found it to be a very tense experience. The food was nice but not enough of it, definitely not worth the price tag. The staff were very attentive always filling up our glasses and making sure the table was perfect for the next course. This whole experience was just not for me, it lacked atmosphere and character. I couldn’t wait to leave as I found it all too intense. I do need to mention the lovely anniversary plate they sent over with chocolates on. That was a lovely touch. Reading all the amazing reviews proves its a great experience but just not my thing.

Cannot fault this restaurant! Every attention paid to every detail. Staff take care of everything right from taking your coat to giving it back at the end of the evening. Last night I had dinner in the restaurant with my sister, ,brother in law and nephew. (We were celebrating very good exam results). The restaurant is an attractive building, quite intimate without being intrusive. It is comfortable and stylish. The staff are attentive and pleasant, they are professionally trained and v competent. There’s a good mix of young people working in the restaurant in addition to older staff. The food is excellent, using many local suppliers and is presented imaginatively without being pretentious.I had trout to start , followed by duckling. My nephew is a vegetarian and thoroughly enjoyed his courses and my sister had the skate, my brother in law had the lamb, they thought the food excellent. We had a delicious Albariño, and during dinner my brother arrived just to say ‘hello’ and the staff were very accommodating in seating him at our table and sharing a glass of wine. In my opinion the restaurant is a successful marriage of very high quality food (& an excellent wine list) using the best of local products with a welcoming convivial atmosphere. We finished off the evening by having coffee in the downstairs bar and we were treated to a tour of the private dining rooms. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening it was 10/10 and excellent value.

Superb food. Helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Modern elegant dining room, but do visit the bar in the basement for a surprising environment by comparison. Cheap? No - this is fine dining. Worth it? Definitely! Even the fixed price menu has a good range of choices. A wide choice of wines. Do ask for advice if unsure, there is no pressure to buy a more expensive wine. Altogether, full marks!

My friend and I recently dined at this eatery. It was our first visit, and from start to finish we were very impressed. The place itself is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with a warm atmosphere. All the staff are polite, friendly, helpful and professional. As a gluten free Vegan, the kitchen did a wonderful job of catering for my dietary requirements. All the food was wonderfully presented, and tasted delicious. The portion sizes were good. A fabulous dining experience! Greeted by a well dressed gent for our lunchtime sitting, he took our coats. Shown to our seats and approached by various waiters and our orders were taken. The room was bright and airy and despite being busy, it was serenely calm. The food was fabulous. A truly great dining experience. We later went downstairs to the Art Cellar.

Visited on 29.12.18 with my dad. The staff saved the day when I had made a mistake in my reservation online and was actually booked for a month later. We didn't wait long before being offered a table. It is the best restaurant I've ever been in my entire life. Visited on Saturday for a wonderful birthday lunch. We dined deliciously on the sumptuous Tasting Menu (the scallops and amuse bouche, beef and duck were particular favourites). I found this restaurant to be extremely underwhelming and some of the food to be quite flawed. The main courses in particular were all quite poorly received with several of us having the lamb and all finding it to be rather chewy. The wine list is decent and well kept but the cocktails were nothing special. The staff were all very pleasant (and there were a LOT of them for our table of only 8) but it seemed like some of them had not been given sufficient training about the food and drinks on offer so questions asked were met with blank stares. I won't be going back, but nor do I regret going.

We had lunch today at The Art School Restaurant. What a lovely experience. The welcome on arrival, the atmosphere, the service and most of all the food we're just perfect. The waiters and other front of house staff couldn't have been more charming and helpful. It was our wedding anniversary celebration and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Went to celebrate our birthdays and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere is so relaxing and staff despite being so young are very professional. impressed to see so many young people working so perfectly. Whenever I eat here I am always surprised how the chef has managed to create dishes where the flavours are so clear. Each ingredient seems to sit, not only in its own space on the palate, but also in its own time. The flavour of each fork full develops in the mouth, and the textures are varied, but not gratuitously so. The food is accompanied by a good range of wines, both conservative and bold, and the sommelier will guide you through them with skill. If you are looking for a very special evening then this is one of the few genuinely extraordinary nights out in Liverpool.

Putting to one side Paul being a friend for over 25 years and watching the birth of the Art School from. I finally after a 6 year wait got to dine at this wonderful restaurant. It is mine and my wifes 30th wedding anniversary. We arrived for our reservation at 7.30pm and was warmly greeted by an impeccably dressed gentleman who without doubt was expecting us and introduced us to our waiter who took us to our table. We was duly taken care of in style for the rest of the evening by our waiter and sommelier. This is when the magic happened... Our food... A beautifully prepared meal by Paul and his team who through the glass of the open kitchen all worked together with ease and clearly content and in sync with each other. We chose the three course set menu.. for 2 hours from the canapes through to the dessert we was served an explosion of flavour, delicately merchandised plates of art complimented by excellent wine and a glass of champage. My final word goes to Paul and the entire team you are master of your trade pure genius ideas displayed on a plate..2020 must surely see the arrival of the well deserved Michelin star. Thank you for the experience which was sublime, unforgettable and emotional at times, we will definitely be coming back with an army of friends to share our culinary journey... much thanks Damian and Carole xx

We had a wonderful experience here. Because it was a special occasion, my wife and I had decided to go for the taster menu, and we weren't disappointed. The food was fabulous, small bites, beautiful courses of fish and meat, then dessert, served over 3 hours... To add to to the overall experience the service, courtesy of Macarena, and Declan was elegant and impeccable, with extra advice (and tuition) on wines to compliment the food from the sommelier, Shaun. We were treated in a friendly, but not intrusive way and made to feel very relaxed and welcome. I would not hesitate to recommend.

We chose the a la carte menu (being the cheapest) at around £30pp. Wine was around £20 for a cheapish bottle of very tasty red. You know you're somewhere special when they bring out an amuse bouche! Long story short, each course was exquisite and beautifully served. Cannot be recommended highly enough!

This is our second visit and we have booked for fathers day, our table is a little difficult! one with allergies, one type 1 diabetic, one vegetarian plus me. I can only say this caused no issues to the kitchen and staff. My wife's vegetarian options were "the best I have ever had...full of flavour" the service was excellent but the food is in a league of its own. The building itself is beautiful and being in the company of women the toilets got great reviews, but for me I love being able to see the kitchen in full working mode through the viewing window. We had our 8 courses plus my daughters had the home made crackers with cheese, this is served on a trolley and the cheese are explained to you I will be having this next time...fabulous. The breads are full of flavour, the wine list is extensive but with help we had a perfect bottle followed by Negronis in the bar area. Would highly recommend it.

This could be a truly exceptional fine dining restaurant but sadly it’s let down a little by some basic errors. For the most part it delivers impressive, attractive food and offers excellent, friendly service. Unfortunately the dining room was so cold on a winter night that some diners had to wear their coats and some dishes were served on plates so cold that sauces had congealed by the time they arrived at the table and all the food was completely cold within minutes. Too many heavily smoked lardons were added to one dish which swamped all the other flavours on the plate. Given the high prices charged here, these errors are puzzling and disappointing. The wine list is very well chosen and, for most part, good value. If you’re using sat nav to get here then it’s worth knowing that Sugnall Street is divided into two parts and the restaurant is in the part between Caledonia and Myrtle Street.
