Reviews of A Torre
F. G.
Truly authentic Portuguese restaurant or at least great seafood restaurant with amazing taste! I came here yesterday evening for dinner and although the menu had a bit of seafood starters and main, my wife and I went for some meaty meals like sirloin steak and lamb shank and went for grilled octopus as extra main as it looks pretty beautiful. We were surprised by how juicy the octopus was. Every bite of it is such divine!! The steak was cooked well and really juicy too. Lamb shank was good too. I ended up the night with the homemade chocolate cake and Portuguese custard tart. I must say the tart was lovely and they heated up warm.
My wife left her phone at the restaurant and we realised that after we got home. The owner, Jorge was kind enough to keep it for us to collect them next day. My wife and I decided to come back here travelling from Stratford to Crystal Palace, not a short journey to collect the phone and also dine in for lunch as the food was just superb!! We had white wine this time with some great seafood starters and mains. We ordered the grilled octopus again and we were mind blown by the size of the dish! Absolutely fantastic!! I would definitely recommend everyone to give this restaurant a try. They do bake the Portuguese tart fresh daily, based on what I could see the tray by the entrance. It’s a local family run restaurant located around Crystal Palace. You may have to call to book a table although my wife and I were quite lucky to get a table for 2 during both lunch and dinner time! 😀 Greatly recommended 10/10 for this! The price of this restaurant is average for London standards in fact cheaper than what I would eat in central London.

I went here with a friend that has never tried Portuguese food. I told her Portuguese food is amazing and we should go. Welsh’s ended up loving it. The food was amazing! We had seafood based dishes. I had the Octopus as a main and the king prawns as a starter both were soooo good. I was so sad that the meal was over cause I couldn’t eaten it again and again and again! My friend really enjoyed her meal. There was lovely wine, great service, quiet space, overall a great experience!! I will certainly be coming back for a lovely meal and would recommend to anybody that wants to try!

Outstanding food and service. And the amazing bootle of Alvarinho. We will be back. 💥💥💥

A little expensive but the food is so fresh, tasty but worth paying for. Staff very friendly. A lovely treat.

The food was good and waiters were nice. Later though, the servers are not attentive. We asked for the bill and they took so long to collect the money. The 1st time we asked for the bill they forgot so we had to ask them again. On the pricy side considering the portions
E.
Beautiful, cozy place. The food is very, very tasty me and my husband almost forgot we are in London for the whole time, the ambience is lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. I leave here some food snaps, shame you can not smell and taste it 😁👍

Some dishes were better then other but overall satisfying experience. Courteous polite service. Little bit pricey.

Saturday dinner session; restaurant was pretty busy. Was told I could not order food for a while as the kitchen was maxed out. House wine seemed to be the only wine available by the glass and it was middling.
Ordered the octopus, which is always a risk and it was overcooked, actually crunchy on one side and not seasoned. Wife had the bacalhau and said it was ok if a bit bland.
A couple we knew said a few years back it was pretty decent. We probably won’t return though
M. D.
Amazing friendly service which is rare nowadays. Fresh authentic Portugues Food with flavours second to none. Above all an affordable menu.
A new regular on my list....i say it again great srrvice which make you want to come back.

After a reservation mixup somewhere else, we wondered by this fantastic Portuguese Restaurant on UK's Mother's Day. They surprisingly had one open reservation on Open Table and took us. Everything was amazing: Food, Service, and Atmosphere! We had red snapper, lamb chops, sea bass, roasted pork belly, and calamari. Everything was perfect! Loved the owner and her sons. They were so hospitable and just lovely. Will definitely be recommending this place to others.

Needs more recognition. The staff were friendly, and the food absolutely delicious. Fish especially seems to be cooked here very well, as is the lamb and beef chops. To top it off, Torre isn't exactly expensive given the quality of the food. An absolute gem.
V. V.
Staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the night. My food was really nice, my husband food was ok. After our last visit 4 years ago, I think I still like it very much and will keep going. Bill was reasonable. The wine we chose (White Casal Rodriguez) was really nice!

The food is tasty and lovely. The atmosphere is authentic Portuguese. This is going to a regular place for me.

One of the best drop-in spots for something to eat and a coffee. Not punishingly expensive like so many other local shops, great quality and a lovely staff. Highly recommend
P. M.
Good wine, excellent fish and sautéed potatoes. We had a lovely evening meal. Good service.

Went to the Great Southern for my birthday lunch and the barman said try A Torre for dinner, they do this sandwich with steak, ham and cheese. He couldn't remember what it was called (Francesinha) but he wasn't wrong. Check out the picture, amazing sandwich. Worth travelling a long way for that. My missus had seafood pasta and that was lush too, loads of seafood. Staff were proper friendly too. Defs going back soon.

If I have to choose one restaurant in Crystal Palace, it will be A Torre! Great atmosphere and food. Friendly staff and it always feel like you are dining at family house :)
W. Z.
Family run restaurant. I have visited here more than 5 times, great Portuguese food.
D. O.
Delicious food, amazing atmosphere! 10 out of 10! Nice service, tasty desert! Definitely come back 👍🏻🥰

I’ve been meaning to try A Torre for a while and finally got round to it. I had such a lovely, lovely time! The staff was super sweet and friendly, food was really delicious (seafood rice was 👍) and the decor is cute and cozy! The food was so much better than other Portuguese restaurants I’ve tried in central London. Now one of my favourite locals, can’t wait to be back!
E. V.
Great food! Very authentic and the portions are decent size. Between the music and decor we felt transported. Will be coming back.
P. S.
Great service! Good food. Flaming sausage was tad chewy. Good value for money.

On every occasion I have dined at this family friendly resturant the food & hospitality has been superb. I am a frequent visitor to Portugal and pleased that Atorre dishes are authentic. Highly recommend you visit for lunch or dinner.
R. A.
Delicious food at affordable prices. Fish cooked exquisitely. I had red snapper and my wife ate grilled squid, both served with chips and salad for comparatively little money. We also shared a lovely bottle of Portuguese white wine. We'll be back, this time with friends and family. A Torre has become one of our favourite eateries.
A. M.
Good traditional Portuguese food with friendly staff
O. S.
Great food the service is brilliant and it's all good for the soul mind and body.
R. E.
Really good meal and pleasant atmosphere. There was a big queue the frust time we passed and so we took note. People were turned away
S. M.
You have not had peri-peri chicken until you've had it here. Shows Nandos how its done.
Amazing food, great people!
b. l.
Wonderful service and amazing food! My entire family ordered different dishes and each plate was bursting with flavor. Our waiter was the kindest and most inviting waiter we've ever had. The best restaurant we ate at in london.
I. O.
Amazing food, lovely service. Will definitely be back!
D. R.
Excellently flavoured food, nice authentic atmosphere and very healthy portion sizes
A. W.
A friendly restaurant with tasty food. It was packed when we went on Friday night but the staff managed to remain attentive and the atmosphere was good. I enjoyed clams and then spicy chicken but was rather too stuffed to manage pudding which was a shame as they looked really interesting.
M. T.
Amazing food, great service! 👍
J. J. L.
A great fish restaurant. We had tuna and seabass, both beautifully cooked. Good service .
M. R.
Place to go if you miss motherland or want to try authentic Portuguese gastronomy - Went for dinner with my boyfriend who is not Portuguese and loves my mom food - we finally found a good Portuguese restaurant in London - the portions are really good - the variety in the menu is great and the food was fresh and delicious. Staff is really nice too. Totally recommended.
V. C.
What a find! Wish we'd have stepped in sooner. This family run restaurant was welcoming, spotless, and served delicious traditional Portuguese dishes all generous servings. The sardine, prawn starters, the lamb shank and the feijoada yum! We'll definitely be back.
D. L.
Such a wonderful Portuguese friendly restuarant. We had some white bread with butter. Followed by SPICY KING PRAWNS and then for main course BACALHAU which had roasted garlic on top Potatoes mixed vegetables. When asked what wine we would like. My friend said Red. The waiter brought a bottle and we tasted it. Had the bottle. But I was unhappy that he brought over one of the higher priced wines at almost £24 . Rather than a nice house red at £15. This was rather naughty of the waiter We ended with a coffee each. Total which included a good tip £90 for two.
A. Z.
Amazing food. I am usually highly critical and can always find a fault with restaurants and their food, however, this just simply isn't possible for A Torre. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. I highly recommend it. Their in house ribs and steak are probably my favourite items. Go visit. You won't regret it.
R. L.
Food was good, nice size portions and very welcoming staff. Went in the late afternoon in middle of the week during winter so had the place to ourselves. The staff really made us feel welcome and special. Nice little hidden garden at the back too.
j. c.
Nice Italian very traditional and nice staff and owners
C. B.
We come for the fabulously reasonable lunch menu. Never disappoints. Our current favourite is the seafood rice - a generous bowlful of slightly spicy rice with loads of squid, mussels, clams, prawns and fish, served piping hot. Delicious with a cool glass of light fizzy white wine.
T. G.
Very friendly Portuguese restaurant. Food was great, we had lamb shank that was lovely and tender and just fell off the bone, and monkfish which was very tasty. Other food going out also looking really good. On Fri or Sat evenings would recommend booking.
R. S.
Owner family take pride in every aspect of this restaurant. I highly recommend the food and service.
A. G.
Long-established restaurant serving large (and delicious!) portions of traditional Portuguese dishes.
B. V.
Good food and friendly staff. I can really recommend the specials. But if you order the stew, make sure you're hungry as it's quite a lot. It was really good though!
M. N.
This is my new favourite haunt in CP, love the food, the staff, the decor, even the music seems to be at the right level- load enough to create an atmosphere but quiet enough to be unobtrusive!!
Tasty veggie options, and they are really baby friendly, my mum loved the chicken. Something for everyone.
So sweet, and not expensive for what you get.
See you there....
J. R.
Super friendly and attentive staff, great tasting food and good atmosphere : )

It was our first time in this place. Very cozy family restaurant. It make us feel like in Portugal last summer. Must visit destination with desant portion of high quality food.

Having recently visited Lisbon, we were compelled to extend our joyous experience closer to home. Upon arrival we were greeted by a handsom, warm and extremely attentive waiter who allowed ample time for us to survey their simple yet sublime menu. We opted for a crisp Vinho Verde, clams, mixed grill, and sautéed potatoes. They were served promptly yet cooked to an exquisite standard. One was almost transported back to Lisbon. Both the owner and his son reflected the environs which we ourselves had recently inhabited. Whilst snowing outside, the decor inside allowed us to be transported to sunnier climes. The attentiveness and interest of the staff made us feel very welcome and the quality of food ensures that we will return at the soonest occasion.
R.
Couldn't have asked for a better first meal out since lockdown, the staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. Thank you for a lovely evening
S. A.
We have been a number of times over the years. We have always had good quality meals. The portion sizes give good value for money. Highly recommended.
M. W.
This place is amazing. The staff are brilliant and very friendly, a great place to take children. The food is second to none and always fresh. I've been enjoying the atmosphere and menus for over 12years and I still love it.

Great place, good staff, big portions and tasty. The house red is very drinkable. Food a little slow but everything else was spot on.
R. L.
Amazing Portuguese food, the portions are good, sometimes even enough for two. The owners are nice people. The place is a tad small but it's worth it!
C.
Dealt with the whole COVID thing amazingly. Food is fantastic, fresh seafood, succulent lamb. I recommend the sardines.
L. M.

M. B.
Had a very nice franceshina 🇵🇹
p. c.
A good family restaurant, to start i had the cod cakes which were yummy and for the main i had beef skewer and chips, i asked for the beef well done and that's exactly what i got and the chips were very good, for dessert i had biscuit layer cake which was just a gooy mess with no sign of biscuit and avoid the house white it's about £6 per large glass and i doubt it cost that much for a bottle down the supermarket.
R. M.
Service was not great on the night we were there but the food was decent. Maybe they were having an off night. Great location and nice cosy restaurant. Would give it another try to see if things improve.
M. M. S.
Delicious food and wine, coupled with excellent service made for a great evening. Even prepared off-menu Cataplana, my favourite Portuguese dish. Thank you! Obrigada!

E. J.
Amazing food, and absolutely lovely staff. My partner had the nicest lamb shank I've ever tasted & I gorgeous peri peri chicken
M. T.
Once upon a time the suckling pig here was a crispy delight. Last visit, about a year later, left me with a plate of leathery, chewy food that was just plain inedible. After the first visit, this was a terrible disappointment.
A. V.
It was amazing. They even made me a Bitoque which wasn't even on the menu and it was so good. Best bitoque I have had in a while. Only wish was a larger portion
P. S.
Great food and competitively priced. Very happy we booked as the place was packed.
