Reviews of Aquavit London
C. C.
Underwhelming experience. Interesting to see how traditional Scandinavian dishes have been adapted to fine dining. I thought the risotto wasn’t so great, although I did like the beetroot starter. Hardly any vegetarian options. I did like the house cocktails. Would likely not go back again.
F. T.
Great restaurant experience and some of the best prepared fish I had anywhere. Loved the umami of the liquorice jus, together with the very well grilled stone bass (deliciously slightly crispy on one side). The table also had Houghton spring trout, incredibly delicate and flavourful on a creamy yet light (sandefjord) sauce, and a bolder tasting halibut.
By then we were already swooned to have found a new favourite restaurant in London. We didn’t know the dessert with the arctic birds nest would change our life. Go there just for that, before you do anything else! Put your phone down, get going!
The service was friendly and unobtrusive, and our waiter commented on all our orders with a classic “very well!”
Loved it

Didn't eat just had cocktails. Beautifully presented . Great service. Lovely decor and reasonably priced for London

Went here on a Saturday afternoon, the place looks great and the food was lovely, it wasn’t busy at all, accommodating for gluten and dairy free, nice staff

Aquavit is by far and away one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten in across the world.
The restaurant is beautifully decked out with typically Scandinavian clean shapes and subtle class and style.
We went for their lunch set menu which really didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t keep my hands off the rye bread even before the starters came out - it’s smoked and absolutely delightful. We shared everything which included an ornate herring starter, a to die for black pudding, obviously the meatballs, the mushroom dumplings, the plum compote dessert which was insanely good and washed it down with some German reisling.
All round lovely place, great staff, really cool bathrooms, great setting. Hope to go again sometime but will leave it for a special occasion.
Thanks guys.......

Amazing service, but food is nothing too special. We went there for lunch on a rainy day. Atmosphere and service were phenomenal, probably one of the best in London. Food on the other hand was nothing to write back home about. We had the langoustine bao bun and the scallops - both of which I would say were bland and unimpressive. For main we had the halibut with samphire and swedish meatballs. My wife was happy with her meatballs, but the fish was again bland and tasteless. Not my idea of a Michelin star restaurant, but I would definitely recommend it for drinks at the bar.

1stbtime visited here, was a little quiet but understood for January. Service was amazing, very attentive. Sweetbreads great, as was the meat main. Definitely worth a visit
W. L.
Great food and dining atmosphere. Went there for brunch and we had a small plates and bigger brunch plates each. Flavours were really nice but the portions of brunch dishes varied from one to another. For example, the smoked salmon plate had 2x more food than the smoked eel, would be nice if the portions were similar. Overall, it’s a lovely restaurant and certainly living up to its name!
N. B.
Very nice ambience and good for team/family/friend gatherings. Friendly staff and awesome food quality.
Booking through google worked like a charm.
Things to note:
- Above average prices (starters are typically 8-12 pounds and mains are 25-35 pounds)
- Quantity for a dish is not great so you may consider ordering a starter.
- Ask the staff about a dish as the names does not fully explain what the dish is.

We had a lovely evening last Friday at Aquavit for our work Christmas party. We enjoyed so much and service was absolutely perfect! Special thanks to Agnes, Giancarlo, Selina, Mariella and the waiter upstairs who put up with us (and got to see all our dance moves)! Also, congrats to the head chef and the kitchen team for preparing great food and delivering it so smoothly!
We're beyond happy for having chosen Aquavit for our Christmas party and we're already thinking of coming back next year!

Very nice ambience and staff was very helpful and friendly.
We ordered a few from each category and they were all very good, some more than others. Shrimp skagen was a favourite. All mains were very good and right quantity.
Bird’s nest is a piece of art, just avoid if you don’t like goat’s cheese.

Wow.. Some of the best food I have had in London. If you want to go for a fancy meal, this is definitely a great choice! It's a little pricey, but if you decide to splash out, it's not silly expensive, and the food and dessert is absolutely brilliant. Not many places I can say have genuinely great food, but the flavours here are a wonderful surprise to the senses. The Arctic Bird's Nest dessert is an adventure in itself!! A must have if you're going for dessert. Will go back for sure. Service was also very friendly and helpful!
C. T.
Great food! The matjes was amazing, and the traditional blood pudding was great. The raggmunk (potato pancake) was great at brunch. But I must say I was quite disappointed by the meatballs. And I've had my share of meatballs being Swedish. It needed creamier sauce and less though meatballs. But all other dishes I've tasted were great! And the cocktails were great too.
N. N.
Really liked the food and decor here. I've been to the restaurant in NY and I think the one on London is better. Delicious herring and venison to start followed by lovely duck and lamb. Good value given the quality. Would happily return.
A. R.
A super awesome experience with great service, ambience, and most importantly, awesome food! Top choices are try scallops as a starter, monkfish or beef rydberg as a main, and the piece d' resistance: the Arctic bird's nest as a dessert. Oysters were awesome as well.
K. B.
Delicious food. Me and my friend are really big foodies and we both loved this place. Sat viewing the window, facing outside. A really nice view when the lumiere festival was on.
The waiters were super friendly and knew the menu like the back of their hand. We had the smoked eel, venison, Swedish meatballs, and the duck. For dessert we had the bird nest and the meringue dish. Such amazing food.
Also go to the bathroom and use the hand lotion. Its smells devine.
M. L.
Weekend brunch set menu with 3 courses (choose 2 from starters, 1 main and 1 dessert) for only 35 pounds person, very good value for such a lunch in michelin 1 star restaurant, and they all taste amazing (the herring starter is a must try)! Great service and atmosphere, really love this place, would recommend to everyone.

Wow wow wow. Our new favourite Nordic dining restaurant in London! They are a 2019 Michelin star restaurant as well. Been here twice and the food is absolutely divine and so authentic Nordic. I was born in Norway and it certainly gave me many tastes of "home"... Their Aquavit drinks, I had one with vanilla and tonic - are delicious and reasonably priced. Food is on the upper price bracket, but each bite is totally worth it - delicious, calculated and presented beautifully. We've had the amazing Swedish meatballs, and the Duck with quince - divine! The decor and crockery are seamless together, and true to Scandinavian design. With a warm feel and stunning interior and wood finishings, it is perfect for a special occasion or even a date. My only con is that the service is quite slow - the waitrons each time did not pay much attention to us when we wanted their attention, but otherwise when we did have their attention, they were helpful and courteous. Wheel chair friendly with a lift to the downstairs bathrooms. Private dining room available. 3 min walk from Piccadilly Circus tube station. Perfect little hideaway spot that I'm sure not too many know about it - the location is in a stunning, modern little lane. Up the road is another Scandi bakery where we stopped for fresh bread after our meal. Will return again and again, and hope for better service! ... P.s. Their signature dessert, Artic birds nest is bewildering! ...
l.
Good restaurant and different from the rest of the London scene - mix of fine dining-hope-to-be and chill out place. Food was good although portions are bit small for the price. Great decoration, with plenty of light. Medium to loud music so definitely not a romantic place to be cosy but more of a first second date to enjoy great house music while having dinner. We had venison tartare (small) and the herring (quite good and ok). The duck breast and lamb which was more than average. Wrapping up, nice place as an experienced if you haven't been but would probably not come back since it's bit pricey for what it is. Staff really amazing and looking after you every moment. PS: selections of wines is pretty good but as well, pricey - we had the red Portuguese wine which was delicious.
L. M.
Had a very enjoyable meal here with courteous staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. A few of the drinks that we tried to order were not available; I believe as they were in the process of transitioning menus, but our waitress was very apologetic. We ordered off the pre/post theatre menu and really enjoyed it - being able to choose two starters for the smorgasbord was great, and they were all delicious. The meat main on the set menu was excellent, but in my opinion wasn't quite Michelin-star in terms of presentation, composition, etc. but this was obviously the cheaper menu and it certainly didn't detract from how nice it was. I had the cheese dessert which was very tasty and went really well with the crispbread. My partner ordered from the main menu for dessert and it looked fantastic, albeit a little small. She said it was fantastic. I think if you want the proper Michelin star experience you'll need to order off the a la carte menu, but the pre/post theatre menu was still excellent, if not quite as good as other set menus I've had at the other Michelin star places I've eaten at in London.

A must visit each time I go to London. Like my daughter say it's upmarket IKEA food but so so so much better😆 you got to try their shrimp on toast and the bird's nest dessert!! Plus they have a beautiful place !!!
M. L.
The dessert here was delicious. The birds nest I think this was called was pretty as a picture. The service was a bit slow but we wasn't in a hurry to eat so it was ok. The decor and seating was good.
S. T.
Nordic cuisine seems to be the latest craze with this newly opened restaurant, well known in NYC for having 2 Michelin stars. Staff were on point with their service, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Our waitress was full of enthusiasm and knew the menu like the back of her hand. We asked for some recommendations as everything was new to us and she described the dishes so passionately, we couldn't not order them. The dishes were small in size but perfect for me as I like to try lots of different dishes and they didn't disappoint. They were clean with all types of textures and flavours which went well together. A bit on the pricey side, but it's good food with good service so you get what you pay for. They were completely wheelchair friendly too with step free entrance and a door man to make you feel that extra bit special. Spacious and accessible toilets were just a short lift ride away. This place would be great for any occasion and worth trying if your tastebuds are begging for something new and different.
K. L. M.
Wonderful restaurant and bar set off the busy streets of Piccadilly. Had a lovely lunch experience, great cocktails and menu - even for both of us who are vegetarian. Costs more than your average lunch but the experience was worth it.
P. R.
Went for the Aquavit brunch in St.James and had a great time. The restaurant is beautiful with all the bronze and copper fittings.
The food was delicious. Never has an Nordic Smoked eel benedict before but this came out perfectly and was very tasty.
The Cinnamon roll and Cardamom roll were divine as was the Raggmunk
which is thinly sliced Swedish potato pancakes with crispy bacon, and lingonberries. The savory dish was complemented with the sweet lingonberries.
The 4 star is because the prices are high and the portions aren't large but you are getting delicious food in a wonderful setting. Would try the weekend brunch where you can have the SMÖRGÅSBORD.
A.
Fine dishes, fresh ingredients, authentic tastes and generous portions for reasonable prices!
For the starters, I had and would absolutely recommend the shrimp skagen, scallops starter and assortment of herring.
The main dish I loved and went back for several times was the full trout - yummy, filling and well garnished with veggies, herbs and almonds. I took friends for dinner at the restaurant recently, they did not have the trout so I ordered the monkfish and it was a big disappointment to my taste - pretty dry and the sauce was tasteless.
Everything comes with a complementary selection of breads and butter - I cannot recommend the rye bread highly enough.
For desserts, the Arctic Bird’s Nest is a pure delight - fresh, fruity, and a marvellous design. If you prefer a more filling dessert, the liquorice and vanilla cream is very tasty.
Top-notch service, sometimes slow however the staff are super nice!
To get a table easily, evenings on weekdays or Sundays are good options.
The setting works well for a romantic dinner, as well as a group business dinner.

Had dinner at Aquavit tonight & it was amazing!
I have always wanted to go to the one in NYC and found out they opened one recently in London while I was visiting.
I had the pickles & beetroot with horseradish for starters. Both were very good. For my main course I chose the trout and was not disappointed! It went very well with the cucumber, dill, caper sauce.
The only disappointment was that the bar was very loud. I was dining alone so I chose to sit at the bar. It was around 18:30 on a Friday and I was flanked by 2 large groups of people enjoying after work drinks. Luckily by 19:00 they cleared out.
I would highly recommend Aquavit and hope to make it back to sample the meatballs soon.
J. M.
Lovely interior and staff, mediocre food. Food was largely bland, boring and uninspired. Chocolate cake desert was especially bad served with curdled watery lingonberry cream sauce. Guess there may be a reason it lost its Michelin star. Real shame as it's a beautiful restaurant.
A. M.
Aquavit's Michelin star London location. The boneless trout, Swedish meatballs and Norwegian omelette / baked Alaska all gave us a flavour of Scandinavian delights. The environment was bright and airy. Great to bring some colleagues, or for couples.
M.
Lovely dinner venue. I had been previously for an afternoon tea offer which I was not wowed with (too many heavy sweet items versus the savoury) but had been told by friends that dinner was really good. Today, I finally made it to Aquavit for dinner, and it didn't disappoint! The setting is pretty decadent and the service is friendly and efficient. I had the crab rye brioche which was a refreshing starter, the monkfish as the main has great flavour combinations and sauces but the star of the show was the desert! The chocolate cake with liquorice ice cream was simply divine; it's served in a little pan and the chocolate is slightly crunchy on the top, the liquorice is not overwhelming and goes perfectly with the cake. The artic bird's nest also seems to be another favourite, it has interesting flavours ans is beautifully presented but I still preferred the chocolate cake. Aquavit is a little on the expensive side, however it's a very safe bet if you want flavoursome food in a beautiful setting.
H. W.
Very welcoming and friendly staff. We sat at the bar for some drinks, and the bartender was professional and the cocktails were amazing! Worth to pay a visit at this beautiful restaurant.
R. R.
Great Swedish food - the meatballs and shrimp toast are amazing and so delicious. Go for brunch and get unlimited Prosecco - they really are generous here. Altogether slightly overpriced but great experience
C. S.
Theatre menu was great! Service was friendly and fast, we got 2 Appetizers each, allowing us to try all four. At first we were a bit sceptical about the blood pudding but it tasted great! Everything was very tasty, also the Kötbullar as main. We were really full at the end so couldn’t even have dessert anymore. I found the wine selection a bit pricey. Overall design of the restaurant was beautiful.
R. B.
Swedish twist in London. Great cocktails (tried delicious Nordfjord -see photo) and delicious food with a difference. High end service and quality. Highly recommended before or after the theatre for a high end treat! We have been to the sister restaurant in New York and didn't even realise they had opened in London!
J. P.
Oysters so fresh, duck so tender but crispy skin, puree good. Dessert, warm choc cake with licorice ice cream is as decadently good a dessert can get.
S. D.
Excellent Scandie Restaurant and now Tea Room. First week of their new high tea and while there are things to improve (cold tea/unknown sweet options) it is a very tasty experience in a divine venue.
Tip - ask for more sorry options instead of sweet ones, they are amazing.
K. Y.
For a Michelin starred restaurant, Aquavit is relatively affordable (£25 for the pre/post theatre 3 course). You can choose 2 dishes from the smörgåsbord, a filling main and dessert. I went with the metje herring with potatoes, sour cream and egg yolk, and the carrots with carraway and hazelnuts.
I know matje herring is supposed to be salty but the lack of a balancing dish made eating each cube increasingly difficult. The carrots were shredded and mixed with the carraway. It was quite nutty.
The kroppkakor with mushrooms and lingonberries were alright. The potatoes could have benefited from seasoning since the mushrooms were not enough to save the thick dumplings.
The Douglas fir panna cotta with queen’s sorbet and sorrel was disappointing. The panna cotta lacked the advertised “fir” flavor and the slightly milky taste was over powered by the sour berry sorbet.
Service was abysmal. Took servers 5-10 minutes to notice the completion of a course.

I am a minimalist person and really love the interior here. Having lunch is a good part at an affordable price. You choose 2 from sm rg sbord as starter. Both herring and blood pudding were presented with great taste, but my wife's gravlax was really good. The main dishes were all very Swedish and I chose the meatballs without letting me down. Last is the dessert. Today there is a green Princess cake on the fika trolley that looks lovely, but I went to eat Norwegian omelette (with sea buckthorn inside) and it brought pride. Finally, Poland's Kinga server made our meals particularly interesting.
Just have bubbles and aquavit and not sure about its wine list, but I'm pretty sure about the environment and food, so I'll be back for dinner next time.
S. K.
Had their quirky nordic afternoon tea (Fika only) and it was marvellous! Although the cakes and open sandwiches did not come in the conventional multi-tiered cake tray, which I found a bit disappointing, the foods were amazing! I would highly recommend it to any marzipan fans! Also the smorrebrods were really nom. The place is grand and fashionable and usually quiet--a great place to have a catch up with friends over delicious cakes.
N. R.
I love this place, great food and amazing interior. I've beed several times with friends and family. Will definitely come back again. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars is service. I never feel really welcomed there. There are lots of waiters around but It is difficult to get their attention! Ones we came and the table wasn't ready (we booked in advance) so we stayed next to the bar and had some drinks. The manager promised our table would be ready in 5 minute (waiter was cleaning it at the time) After 25 minutes of waiting and observing quite a few empty tables i went to remind the guy we still were waiting. I can say the manager was rather annoyed with me then sorry for his carelessness. This is just one example. Don't want to go further , just hoping the service will be improved.
K. P.
The food here is quite good, not definitely excellent. We went there for pre-theater menu. And what I want to say is that the service is really terrible. First of all, we were waiting for almost 40 minuets after starters to get our mains. So we had only 10 minutes to enjoy the food, because of show. It is really hard to get the attention of waiters. Afterwards we came back to have the deserts (because we’ve ordered it and had no time to get them before show). And there was an unpleasant situation with other guests. Until we actually asked to change our table, no one even bothered to offer it.
I. S.
Very friendly staff, very tasty and beautifully served food, well worth the price. Nice ambiance. Try monkfish and mussels!
I.
Here for the meatballs, which did not disappoint. However, some of the other guests didn't find the other courses too impressive. Place looks beautiful and staff are great.
S. P.
Amazing Swedish food.A bit pricy but worth it.That egg yolk cream with the meat was incredible. My god that Brownie was out of this world and the Wild Sour drink was super nice and refreshing
L. O.
Nice deco, great ambiance, friendly service and not too pricey. Mains are around £24 to £30, mainly fish dishes. Food was generally on the salty side but dessrts were great.
P.
Very nice atmosphere
Extremely organised
Very kind and respectful staff
Generous staff
Wonderful presentation
we loved the plates they used
Nice wine selection
A. A.
Very nice swedish restaurant. The meatballs were amazing! The kroppkakor also good but not impressive. It is a fancy restaurant with very nice food presentations.
E. V.
Michelin starred food at a very reasonable price tag
The menu at aquavit has simple dishes (in my opinion) which are perfectly executed, had the chance to try quite a few dishes from the menu as we were in a group of 3 and all of them were delicious. Deserts were also amazing the birds nest is probably one of the nicest looking deserts out there. Cocktails are also a great addition to the meal. I will be returning for brunch
A. C. C.
Excellent meal and excellent service. The Gravlax was (surprisingly) tasty, but everything was very good.
B.
Amazing interior design, professional staff and of course delicious Scandinavian inspired food at a relatively affordable price. I'd definitely recommend this place.
P. T.
Beautiful decor and good service. The small plates are really rather small, so ordering a few to share is certainly a good idea, along with mains. The potato with fried potato and seasoned cod roe is delicious!! Pickled herrings also not too fishy and tasted good.
Z. L.
We had different kind of fish from starter to main course. They all taste fantastic. Especially the smoked eel.
M. B.
I was taken here as an extremely fancy reward for finishing my dissertation. I could have eaten every single dish on the menu so choosing was difficult, but ended up sharing 2 smorgasbord and 1 starter with 25 ml of Aquavit. The standout was the Matje herring with potatoes. The monkfish main was both delicate and filling, and I had a few bites of my partner’s duck so I can recommend both. The Douglas fir pannacotta was a strange taste but well worth trying. I don’t have a refined palette and am completely unused to fine dining so the laid back and very friendly service was very welcome.
W. T.
Service was very slow and we was overlooked a few times but food was to my taste. Dessert was beautifully serve!
M. G.
Great upper class restaurant. Present staff and food was great as well for people who like fish dishes very recommended.
a.
OK I rented out the private dining for an event . The Copenhagen room is OK, not too impressive, but good enough . Food quality is very good, what you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant albeit not too creative . The service is what I had a couple of issues with . I wanted.to do a presentation and the projector was placed on a pillow (no joke) that's the only way they could adjust it. After dinner guests wanted tea and they were told by the staff (not in the nicest way) they can only be served peppermint tea or black filter coffee, no espresso or any other drink for that matter. Incredibly disappointing for a dinner for 15 , especially that the bill was in the thousands. Its not a bad place but this is London and there are a lot more restaurants that offer better service and more impressive food. I left feeling meh 😕
J. B.
Loved it. Visited Copenhagen a few years ago. Fell in love with the food. This reminded me why. Such a different palette if flavours to our normal diet. All beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and impeccable service.
L. L.
Just wow! Absolute compliments to the chef and staff. Absolutely delicious, and unexpectedly so (in that I really had no idea what to expect from Nordic food). Very luxurious and yet relaxed!
K.
Aquavit serves up sublime Nordic inspired dishes with 1st rate service – the Matje Herring is a winner – try that. The high ceilings and original pieces of artwork by Olafur Eliasson pieces give the space a feeling of modern grandeur.
C. L.
Food is generally nice, although nothing exciting. The problem was it's very noise atmosphere and it would be better if the service could been a bit warmer.
M. B.
Exceptional dining experience in a modern, fine ambience. Food, service, wine; totally deserving one Michelin and 5 review stars!!!
K. M.
Innovative and delicious food using Scandinavian ideas and ingredients. Fabulous decor and excellent service.
p.
Came here for a corporate event, food was okay but not special special. The service was outstanding.
B. L.
Nice menu. Wines are a little bit overpriced. Will definitely go again..
L. H.
We had here a lovely breakfast - the place is nice , the food was great and the service was very attentive
V. F.
Great brunch!! Good value and the food was delicious, I really liked the Skagen prawn toast, and the Scandinavian pancakes were filling and nice
T. P.
Just perfect - Herrings, crab, gravlax, Beef Rydberg, crumble with a cinnamon Ice cream and very professional service/knowledgeable staff.
N. S.
This place should be a standard to all restaurants. Everything was perfect, professional yet warm and friendly. A place to return to again and again!
W. K. L.
Pretty amazing food. Everything was gorgeously presented and the taste was excellent. Highly recommended.
K. H.
It's great atmosphere to have Scandinavian dishes. I like signature cocktail here.
D. W.
So unusual! A very Nordic feel in the heart of London, and very comforting good too. I loved the aquavit daiquiri, a real discovery!
K. H.
Simple menu executed well. The dishes were delicious and we walked away happy and satisfied. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had a selection of starters (pickled and fermented vegetables, shrimp skagen, gravlax and languostine bao bun) and then the meatballs and beef Rydberg for mains. The shrimp skagen was my favourite but the crispy potatoes with the Rydberg and the mash with the meatballs were sensational. Comfort food. Definitely recommend
A. J.
Disappointing, I was a regular vistor pre lock-down. Service and food slow and out of touch, along with a heavy bill at the end...lost its way, and wont be going back.
P. S.
Wonderful food and good service. We love the herring 3-ways and the meatballs.
W. W.
Beautiful venue and food. Staff were very nice as well. Will try the smorgasbord next time!
A. P.
Lovely Scandinavian food and great service, I hope to return one day...
R. T.
Really loved my whole experience here. Really friendly staff, cocktails were tasty and service was fast. Food was still the highlight though...my husband and I ordered the herring smorgasbord to share, then I had the scallop which was presented amazingly and the venison tartare was also lovely. The trout for main was huge - we could have shared the dish, and finally the birds nest for dessert we had heard so much about did not disappoint! Every course was lovely and we both constantly had food envy, but loads more on the menu I would go back and happily try. Lovely time!
G. D.
Authentic Nordic restaurant, great for a business lunch.
m. k.
Simple food done very well. Really enjoyed the pickled herring and the meatballs. Friendly staff and nice surroundings with a relaxed ambience.
H. W.
Great cocktails and nice vibe. Love it!
V. F.
It Is a Michelin starred restaurant! As such, it has a fantastic value for money. Fabulous quality of food and good service! We did not have wine but 3 starters, 3 mains and coffees costed 120£ which is good for the the restaurant.
Unique reasons for giving 4/5 is the fact that online they advertise a set menu, but it is not specified the schedule (day of the week in which it is possible to have it). We discovered that it was not available upon arrival. The rest was great
C. L.
Beautiful place for some nice Swedish comfort food, lovely relaxed atmosphere
X. C.
Amazing service and food! Lovely atmosphere so nice to be in a fun and relax Michelin star restaurant that is reasonable with pricing. We will be back!
J. V.
Very good Swedish food
Loved the salmon and the meatballs
Mycket bro!
K. S.
Amazing experience! Food was absolutely delicious.
S. C.
Amazing ox cheek
S. F.
Really good food. They have signature cocktails, you can choose smorgasbord - the herring is great, and for mains the meatballs are worth the trip alone. A variety of wine if you're feeling flush
R. A.
Really excellent. I started with the smoked eel which was a fabulous mix of flavours - smoky and great smelling broth, coupled with firm textured and very flavoursome eel, perfect little nuggets of foie gras and tiny but superbly sharp pieces of apple. Tremendous balance and interest. Everything after that was equally good, and I really loved the Arctic Bird's Nest desert - a similar mix of surprising flavours, but with much more chocolate! Service was excellent - passionate, knowledgeable, and attentive but not in your face.

Very high class Swedish restaurant. Enjoyable experience with others, the food was personally not my style, however my Swedish friend very much loved his food and experience. Would recommend if you are looking for an authentic Swedish dining experience.
B. H.
Highly recommend for lunch and dinner. Scandi style all the way!

It is very good place. The smoky potatoes really surprised me!!! Delicious desserts.

Stunning restaurant. Some beautiful fish dishes.

Excellent food and wine , top setting and service

Amazing dining experience in London! Splendid food (especially the Bird’s Nest dessert!), great service and overall lovely feel and atmosphere. Definitely coming back when we’re back in London!

I went here for my anniversary in October. The food was beautiful. The cocktails were gorgeous. The place was spotless. We were treated wonderfully from the moment we walked in - literally. Really hard to fault.
You HAVE to try the Skagen starter. A classic Swedish dish that has won over my taste-buds. I think for the level of service, the food, and the ambiance this is absolutely worth every penny and counts an excellent dining experience. Just keep in mind that with excellence comes a price... but let's be honest, most places in Central London are expensive - and most of those places are average-to-good. This is not good, it's amazing. Try something different, you won't be disappointed. 5*

Had an amazing dinner here. Gravlax and pâté were great snacks to start off with. Then had scallops and cured mackerel. All solid dishes with a bit of wine. Had the fish for the mains, and the cook was fine and taste very well crafted. Service was super attentive and warm. Some people might say it’s overpriced but if you’re looking for something outside of the regular French or Italian fine dining and want something traditionally quite rustic but in a refined approach, give this place a go.

Really great good and service. We came ages ago during their opening before they got the star - there was a few stuff ups with the food but the service and apology amply made up for it and seafood was fresh and tasty. The shots though are a bit much (though not fault of restaurant - we were just already hungover!) really happy to know they got a star soon after!
I.
My review must be qualified by noting that I came to Aquavit expecting it to live up to its New York namesake. Once at the restaurant we learned that the owners and intents are different—this restaurant is geared towards someone that thinks loud music means you're having a good time. The food was quite good, as was the service, though neither were at the level of a top restaurant. The decor was also quite nice. We were accidentally billed for a bottle of wine we hadn't ordered, and overall I found the restaurant to be quite pricey—there were lots of add on items that dramatically increased the price without contributing to the overall experience in a meaningful way. I won't be back.
A. H.
Michelin starred - great lunch and amazing service. But be aware there is an inbuilt service charge (tip).
This is my third Michelin starred restaurant and I always dine alone so I can focus on the food and experience.
The decor and layout of the restaurant is very Scandi cool and the staff were friendly and efficient.
I went the lunch set menu (soft option for beginners) and enjoyed all the courses but if you are a big eater you may be hungry at the end.
Staff “up-sold” me on hot chips which cost a bomb for about 10 chips - they were nice but not amazing and definitely not worth the price.
Would I go back?
Probably not as the cuisine is not my style (I would rate the now closed Joel Robuchon's London restaurant as a better meal and experience) but do not regret the cost or experience as I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the meal.
Highlight?
The “butter” served with the variety of breads and the carpaccio.
C. B.
Great food and very good environment, Nordic themed so rather minimal, which helps to showcase the food. Pigeon breast was fantastic as was the cod. Attentive staff without being over bearing, short queue but as expected for a Friday lunch. Make sure you book.
M. F.
Damn fine food. Great after putting up with steakhouses, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. Refreshingly different. Scandi is always a bit salty on the tongue, but this is very very high class salt.
S. C.
Well worth the visit for a special lunch. Warm contemporary interior design. Staff were excellent. A special thanks to receptionist on duty at 12noon on 4/3/2020 and Also to all the female waiting staff for an excellent and a professional service. I would recommend this hidden gem if you want a premium lunch (excluding bottle of wine) and a glass of wine as a treat to youself go for it. Scandic influenced menu. Or on a warm day just sit outside for coffee or a drink. Its located on a quiet street near the noise and bustle of piccadilly.
J. s.
Came here for dinner. Very beautiful interior. The food was great. I would give it a five star but I did have a bit of trouble getting the waiters attentions. 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 deserts came to about 130 pound which isn't terrible for the setting and quality.
R. S.
Absolutely amazed how delicious the food was made. Great customer service! Enjoyed every piece of each course. My first experience at Aquavit but definitely not the last. Will recommend to everyone who’s looking for some special place for a nice food!
Well deserved a Michelin star!!! 🥂⭐️
K. W.
It was just for coffee but the staff were delightful. We sat outside. Staff friendly and attentive. Lovely coffee. Keen to visit again now to sample their restaurant.
S. H.
We went there as a couple on Thursday night just before the theatre and had the theatre menu which I would highly recommend, some people might look at it and think is this ikea ? No let me assure this is nothing like you have ever tasted ! The gravlax was so fresh it was a pleasure, from the cocktails to the sorbets it was an explosion of flavours !
The place itself is really gorgeous with fantastic Scandinavian design! It even has an elevator for the loo which was a relief for me as I suffer with sciatica ! Finally the service was perfect, our server Rafael and his manager Alessia made us feel like royalty! It was such a positive experience that we will definitely come back !
B. C.
Hosted a business dinner for 13 and it was a flawless evening with delicious canapés and a tasting menu that was absolutely stunning in terms of flavours and yet simple and not over engineered. Wines also fab if pricey (what's new eh...?) and highly recommend this great place whose staff are also very special
A. Y.
Nice for outdoor dining!

The Nordics really know their fish!!!! It’s hard to find good seafood restaurant in London, because traditionally most people like everything overcooked and dripping In sauce here. However Aquavit really stands out as a Nordic seafood restaurant. We randomly walked in on a Saturday afternoon and they had a DJ playing music. The vibe was great and the waitresses were cheerful and attentive. All the fish dishes we had were amazing! The herring trio was perfect as a starter for sharing. We then had the monkfish, the cod and the trout. Presentation was gorgeous and portions were generous. All the fish cooked to perfection - just right, still tender and juicy. The fish was exceptionally fresh. We will definitely come back!

We chose this as it was very close to Prince of Wales Theatre.
We ordered the pre theatre set menu, it was light, delicious and service was swift as they knew we had a show to catch.
Friendly and helpful team of service staff. I will recommend to any who's in the area or heading to any of the nearby theatres for a show.
O. P. H.
I have lived in Stockholm for 10 years- absolutely it is fancy- close to Stockholm taste in London, and very fancy place
J. D. T.
Great dining experience, impeccable service. Try any of the seafood dishes
D. E.
We went here before going to the theatre and had a deal. The service was good (except they had run out of the only Swedish Beer on the menu) and they have a nice selection of Aquavit including Östgöta Sädes. The food was alright, but far from special. As a Swede it was a nice bit of nostalgia and while the Blood Pudding was excellent, the Gravad Lax was fairly standard and quite frankly my grandmother makes better meatballs. I'm not sure if the more upmarket dishes on the menu are better, but if you're just looking for a Swedish restaurant in London there are better ones out there with better value for money.
O. A.
I started with the smoked eel which was a fabulous mix of flavours - smoky and great smelling broth, coupled with firm textured and very flavoursome eel, perfect little nuggets of foie gras and tiny but superbly sharp pieces of apple.
A. G. (.
Bottom line, food was very good, as I would have expected. It's fine dining in modern 1920's steamer atmosphere, yet very relaxed and informal, incredibly comfortable chairs. Memorable? Fermented puree of turnip and a very clever and complex Birds Nest dessert. Need to mention vast choice of Aquavit selection, if you're into that. Not a fan at all myself, I was seriously impressed by the 'Hay Dor' cocktail! Not so happy with the poached pear accompaniying the caramel tart, cold and crunchy. Staff knowledgeable and lovely, but service was on the slow side.
J. H.
Got in at noon for brunch set menu with the £20 unlimited bubbly. I’m sure we had a couple of bottles worth by the time we got the bill. Definitely worth the visit! Starters were amazing and the main was good.

Fantastic food great live music outside you won’t be disappointed in the presentation
All my first date here I 100% guarantee Jiggy
I will give 10 Stars our 10 😍

Visited Aquavit for breakfast and I must say, the first thing that strikes you is the decor. High ceilings and very well lit, you can't help but feel that big business goes down there.
The staff are very friendly and kept a smile on their face whenever they interacted with us. Not a fake smile as if they are smiling through the pain of being somewhere they don't want to be but a genuine smile as if they are happy to talk to you and make your experience pleasurable. There was even a point where we were waiting a while to be served and one of the waitresses acknowledged that and gave us complimentary pastries to apologise. It's the little things that go a long way.
Getting to the breakfast, I had the salmon & eggs on toast with avocado. Everything about it was above average and was very pleased about it.
All in all it was a very pleasant experience, you guys have got the balance right balance in every department. The only reason I am not giving Aquavit a 5 because I just simply can't give a breakfast a 5, it's only breakfast but I will be back for dinner and then we will really see what's good.
J. B.
We had lunch the other day - the service was impeccable and the venue is just amazing. The attention to detail is worth noting event for the most hardcore interior designer - everything peaks quality and all with its roots in the Nordic. The food as well was not just left to chance and wanted to try all bits of the menu - but that just requires more visits which I am happy to do - ASAP :-)
A. L.
Aquavit is always worth a visit.
This is the only place in London where you find a £25 three course Michelin meal.
The staff is very welcoming, accommodating and are good at matching the honour of the guests.
This place is always busy, but never crowded.
We visit them whenever we are in London and get the chance.
T. N.
Food is amazing, high quality and the staff are so attentive and helpful. They were able to explain every dish and answer all questions we had on the menu.
I had the mateje herring to start, monkfish as main and finished off with the artic birds nest. I would highly recommend all three dishes especially the birds nest.
If you like Aquavit, they have the largest assortment in London and staff are on hand to explain. Would definitely visit again and found it reasonable for a one Michelin star restaurant.
N. M.
A first for me to dine on Scandinavian cuisine, and it didn't disappoint at all. Very tasty food, great service, and lively ambience for an early evening meal. I would especially recommend the shrimp from the smorgasbord, the crab on rye, and the meatballs.
Y. A.
Went to Aquavit last night for dinner with my parents after having raved about it to them from my first visit a few months back, unfortunately the experience fell short from my expectations.
The service was extremely slow, this was clearly due to the fact that our poor waitor was in charge of many more tables than he could clearly handle- they were under staffed.
In regards to the actual food, the starters are much better than the mains. Our janssens temptation side dish basically came at the end of our meal and was extremely salty.
I felt the butter usage was also heavy handed, especially on the accompanied bread with the famous roe starter.
Altogether there is a lot of room for improvement, especially for a restaurant that has a world class reputation in New York, with world class prices.
H. H.
Didn't have any food, except a Swedish cardamom roll. Lovely bar, great staff and amazing environment. It's a little bit on the pricey side but all worth it! It has a luxury hotel bar vibe to it, with fancy bathrooms downstairs. Well with a visit! I'll be back soon.
G.
Amazing cocktails and food is fabolous - fresh new tastes! Will definitely visit again. One thing to work on - the staff could be more attentive, we waited for a good while when trying to pay our bill. 5* nevertheless.
D. D.
Beautiful Scandinavian cuisine, pleasant ambience and friendly staff. Also has a well stocked bar.
A. C.
Amazing ambience and environment. Great food and cool dishes. Chill bar too
M. M.
Great lunch (I have been for brunch at the weekend as well) in a sleek, modern, trendy spot. Service was impeccable and the food delicious.
It's a shame I could not get involved in the aquavit cart as I had to return to work.
D. H.
Everything about this place is 5* ...the food, the staff, the decor, the wine list... but the FOOD was very very tasty...the fish (i had Turbot and my friend had boneless trout) were cooked to perfection ... and the portions although not large were perfect lunch size.
If you love mash potato... try theirs it is like no mash potato I have tried before...
C. E.
On arrival I thought this was going to be awful- tacky tables and chairs against beautiful paneling and no doorman to help with with the stupidly heavy doors. The receptionist had disappeared so there was no-one to seat us and we were then confronted by the most annoying over enthusiastic waitress (who really was awful- very over the top- even for LA.) Staff need to be trained to tone it down- this is London.
However, the food was delicious and a lovely time was had by all- the food was well spaced out and we were given plenty of time and not rushed like in some restaurants when they need you out to table turn after two hours and it became one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had recently.
If the service was better and toned down and there were two receptionists to seat and a doorman this would be a 4.5 but as it is it's a solid 3.

What a gem of a restaurant. We were here on a Friday evening around 7pm and it was busy, but we had made a reservation.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, decorated with true Scandinavian design. The menu is true Scandinavian, which also meant that I had almost no idea what anything on the menu actually was. We opted for dishes like pickled herring, some kind of crab dish, Swedish meatballs and beef Rydberg. The meat dishes were excellent, I've only had Swedish meatballs at one other place (yes, it was Ikea). The herring was unique, not a big fan of herring but I heard it was very traditional... so I thought I had to give it a shot. The Jansson's temptation was somewhat of a scalloped-potatoes (but not really) type dish, but nonetheless it was delicious. The head chef/owner also used to be a pastry chef, so we had to order at least one of the deserts - we opted for the douglass fir panna cotta and were not disappointed.
The one gripe I have about this place is the service. It seemed like the waiters were very attentive to almost all the other tables, except ours. The food came out relatively fast, but the waitress never came by (after our last course) and after about 45m of sitting there waiting for someone to check on us. we had to flag someone down and ask for the bill. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or she had simply forgot about us, but I was needless to say I was astounded at the lack of attention we received.

This venue is situated in a less crowded part of Piccadilly. The street is dressed with festive angel decorations and Aquavit has several Christmas trees at it's entrance. Inside it is stylish and elegant serving food and drinks. The atmosphere was buzzing and the staff were fabulous. I will be adding this venue to my regular haunts.
E. R.
Had a delicious lunch here in December. The pickles were great value for money and the meatballs were delicious. The speedy lunch menu is great value. Lovely atmosphere and service.
Z. P.
I loved everything from the service, interior design to food, wine and smell.
M. A.
It was my first time to try Scandinavian cuisine and I must say I was well-impressed with the quality of the food and the different types of fish on the menu. I would absolutely recommend their Shrimp Skagen, it is delicious.
J. L.
The food is really yum, and the place super nice. The Cod and the Jasson's temptation are my recommendations. The service was also excellent.
K. (.
Attentive staff, my glass was never empty.
Interior, beautiful but felt as if it was lacking character
I had the venison tartare to start which was delicious.
And I had the duckbreast with pickled blueberries also. Which to date is the most delicate and flavourful thing I have eaten .
A. H.
Fabulous new restaurant serving Nordic cuisine. Great menu (including smorgasbord) and the best fish in London. I am on my fourth visit. Go now so you can go back again later!
C. V. D. B.
Wonderful restaurant. Delicious food and trying a cocktail at the bar is a must! Attentive staff and great decor. Had the pre- theatre menu which was a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
V. K.
Lovely staff! We came over for 1 cinnamon roll only, we had 15 min before the phantom of the opera. Service was great as we came for dinner. Great place
A. P.
Four of us went to this restaurant on a Friday night . The space is big and nicely decorated but felt a little impersonal and very un-Swedish . We all agreed the food was delicious. We tried some of the small plates and then went on to starters and mains. The crab on rye bread was delicious as was my veal cheek . For pudding, if you like liquorice ... the liquorice cream was amazing . It was like a brûlée .
Our waitress, Erin, was lovely. She was bubbly, fun and very informative and always had a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble. Sadly what would have been an excellent experience was spoilt by how loud the music was . We were sat at a round table by the window and we literary had to shout to be heard . When we asked for the music to be turn down the manager came over ( who had to ask my husband to repeat himself because she couldn't hear him ! ) and said that they couldn't turn the music down as the owner wanted like that . We get that this is aspiring to be a hip Swedish eatery but success is also about making your customers happy . She really wasn't interested and did nothing to alleviate the situation and her arrogance was bordering on being rude .Turning the music down a little for a couple of hours wasn't much to ask, at the end of the day this is a restaurant not a night club, people go to restaurants to talk and enjoy food not dance and ignore each other ! All that is left to say is thank goodness for staff like Erin that made the the evening .
O. B.
Food and ambiance were great but service was not attentive.. had to flag down a waitress every time we wanted something! Final cappuccino was insipid- tasted like it was caffeine-free!
H. F.
Came for dinner. Restaurant decor is beautiful and the dishes are presented immaculately. Had reservations after reading a 3* Time Out review, but it was better than that (if not cheaper). Shrimp Skagen, Gravlax and Vendace roe "Lojrom" off the Smorgasbord were all excellent starters. The best end of lamb and duck breast mains were also delicious, packed with flavour, although the Danish contingent complained of a lack of liquorice in the duck breast. Swedish meatballs were less good, and came with a large dollop of mash potato not listed on the menu or advised by the waitress - much to our frustration as the person who ordered it also ordered a potato side (!). The fried almond potatoes look like potato wedges but weren't as tasty, the watercress and artichoke crisps were good though. Salt liquorice burnt cream (aka creme brulee) and rhubarb crumble also solid if not spectacular. Really good cocktails though. Not likely to be a regular, but enjoyed it this time.

I recently tried to book a large table at Aquavit for my birthday, as suggested on the website I emailed to make the request. 48 hours later, no table was confirmed - despite four emails from me and two brief responses. I went elsewhere to celebrate and had a wonderful time; on advising the same to Aquavit, the restaurant apologised and offered help in future bookings.
The following weekend I decided to give Aquavit another chance this time with two friends, including my partner who is Swedish. All started well, it's a beautiful room and we use the same Ostindia Rörstrand cutlery at home.
We were then shown to our table, which must be the worst table in the restaurant; stuck between reception and the end of the bar - a thoroughfare for staff (a try of glasses dropped next to us). I had hoped earlier difficulties in booking may have lead to, at least, a decent table provided, that was not the case.
The food was all good; the skagen, herring and breads were wonderful; the Klassisk rödbetssallad was fine, no more than fine. We all had the same main, the Kroppkakor, which we all enjoyed, although in my view under-seasoned. The janssons was not great, the one I make at home is much better. The prices last night were more expensive than those on the menu online, up to £3 more per dish (it all adds up), a reprinted menu, post Michelin star receipt?
The bar is beautiful, as were the cocktails tried (despite dry January), I will return for seats at the bar and some Smörgåsbord whilst sat there.
D.
Nice for a treat, or if you are swimming in cash as evidenced by the matching his/hers Lamborghinis parked up outside when we visited. Simple menu but perfectly prepared. Probably could do with a tasting menu to give those unfamiliar with nordic cuisine a whistle stop tour.
N.
A very good atmosphere and the main dish are really nice!
However, it is quite unacceptable that if you bring your own birthday cake, you need to pay £7 each person...
E. T.
Good food, service and atmosphere. However, the cost for our modest lunch was a little more than what we thought could justify five stars.
K. F.
Beautiful place - just wanted a glass of wine so we sat at the bar. Definitely an upscale place and somewhat expensive, so maybe not a place for a quick drink... but certainly a well decorated restaurant focused on Scandinavian food and drink.
S. T.
Just been to Aquavit London ,the restaurant has a light and modern look if a little understated, the food was fantastic with rich and strong flavors, the service however was disappointing, not very attentive and a little lackluster, also not very busy at all so not much of an atmosphere, so I would definitely recommend for the food but not for anything else.
F. W.
Really unique and cool experience. Great food and perfect atmosphere for a date night or nice dinner with friends. Highly recommend the tasting menus accompanied by their recommended spirits!

Aquavit definitely top my list of favourite restaurants in London! The food, the service, the design, everything is awesome. I want to go back and try all their dishes.
S. C.
Forget Ikea this is the best thing to come out of Sweden since Abba. Try the pre theatre menu at £25 if your not sure and you'll be astounded that simple uncluttered food can pack such flavors.
Great value at a top venue.
C. Z.
The service was good, the decor lovely and the starters nice but the meatballs I had were not as tasty as they should have been.

Lovely brunch! Food was delicious, service very attentive, decor great, DJ on a Saturday not too loud and very cool vibe. Great value!

Great place to have brunch!

Authentic swedish food in a charming setting.
Loved the food - very high quality, and the prices, which are reasonable. Very attentive personnel.
Will definitely return when in London again

I thought the food was exceptionally good. Beautifully designed restaurant that, although being next to Leciester Sq, feels zen and calm.
L.
I've been this Resturant twice. Lunch and dinner.
All dishes are delicious but I wouldn't recommend for dessert. Waiters are friendly and professional.
I will go there agin.

Bustling, but good service, interesting and tasty food.

Good food but a tad pricey for what it was

Amazing food experience I would recommend to everyone who wants to try something extraordinary. The mixture of taste balanced in every meal, finishing with delicious deserts:) Will highly advice to try it yourself;)
A. B.
Very nice place, made my girlfriend cry after eating the meatballs as it was so good, had a desert to come but unfortunately didn't have the time to wait for it due to being in a rush to get to a musical but I'm sure it would have been amazing

Love it. Friendly and efficient staff. The food looks like a work of art and tastes great. Not a bad glass of Chablis either. Recommended.

The bar manager is an amazing, sexy mofo. I will def be coming back! It makes such difference when served by an Asian brethren in London that I can't help but come back and sample his delights

Interesting and tasty food, but staff not very responsive, we came around 8 pm and the order was taken 45 min after. The restaurant is very busy, but the atmosphere is nice, we had a lovely evening.

Delicious food! Great hospitality! One star earned for sure! Great price for such great restaurant

Fabulous decor and good food. Made for a good working breakfast. Was obviously on the pricey side. The carrot and ginger juice was nice and firey
F. I.
Incredible restaurant!! Beautiful environment!! Nice and polite staff!! Food, desserts and cocktails to die for!! Totally deserved 1 Michelin star!!
B. H.
Scandinavian to the core, from the interior to the food. The whole place appears very sober and clean, almost a little lifeless. The food was decent, so was the service.
A. L.
Good atmosphere, good food and drink, but you pay for it.

Lovely restaurant, great location and friendly staff. Set menu very good value

Amazing and original food, attentive service, and energetic refined atmosphere. Only (minor) knock is breakfast doesn’t live up to the dinner experience
H. T.
Food was nice and staffs are friendly, but volume is not enough compared to the price.
T. C.
tasty food, but poor service. Waiter would forget our table for long periods. Even the basic driks (beer and wine) took half an hour to arrive. Disappointed!

Easily one of the best restaurants in London. Great food, beautiful decor and lively atmosphere.

Pretentious Nordic restaurant with excellent service. I'm too uncivilised to understand most of the menu, or appreciate the tiny servings. However, the food I was served was delicious albeit overpriced.
D. S.
Always loved this place. Stylish with lovely staff and super food.
B. H.
Good food but wine list disproportionately expensive.
M. K.
Top-notch, delicious scandinavian food with a modern twist, amazing interior decoration and loveable, proficient waitresses - the perfect spot to visit for a special occasion.
E. E.
Don’t forget to try the Toast Skagen!
L. T.
Brilliant food, great service, this place is definitely 5* and for a Michelin starred restaurant Aquavit is relatively affordable.
D. D.
Absolutely delicious, great food, great wine, awesome service. I would certainly go back.
A. G.
The food is just fantastic, so tasty and very well presented. And not too expensive for a London restaurant.
H. P.
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Amazing selection of aquavit, one of the best I've seen outside of Scandinavia.
A. S.
Really nice cocktails. Definitely coming back.

Very good, but they seemed to have halved the main course portions, which were just fine on numerous previous visits.
A. H.
Easily one of the best restaurants in London. Great food, beautiful decor and lively atmosphere.

Some say, they have the best Scandinavian food, even in comparison to food you can get in Scandinavia itself :) Service is a bit slow though.
J. O. N. A. S.
A great restaurant with high quality food and service.
