Reviews of Babur

Quality Indian restaurant in heart of South East London. Food is beautifully cooked and everything clean and on point. They are attentive, polite, quick. Food was fresh and very tasty and not to mention this place looks like a wedding venue in the back. Beautiful, beautiful!!! Cannot wait to go back.

Birthday dinner for my wife. Great food. I like the feel of the restaurant. They do an assortment of complimentary taster through out the meal. The quality of the food is high. Flavours are on point. Book to avoid disappointment. There is no retainer charged for booking which I appreciate. Text keep you up to date and reminds you.
A. G.
Definitely authentic flavours but small portion sizes.

Great food at an amazing price! All the dishes were good except one which was really weird - The Baby Aubergine side dish. Our waiter was amazing and attentive and gave our babies a little play pack. The only issue was we had a very bad start. Took us almost 15 mins to get seated in a very empty 6pm restaurant. We didn't make a booking and was told there was availability but we had to give up the table by 7.30pm which we said wasn't an issue. We were told to sit by the waiting area by the front desk, 1 min later someone came to bring us to a corner 6 seater table. We asked for 2 high chairs. They didn't come with it for 3 mins. Then we were told not to worry, we were getting a change of table to a much bigger space. 4 mins later we were brought to another corner in the tent area but were told to sit at a 2 seater table with the 2 high chairs next to the table but without any table space. We mentioned that it's a bit too squeezy and could we pls have a 4 seater at least. They took another 7 mins to sort out a table for us but giving us dirty looks the whole time. Just because of this, I don't think I will return. I felt extremely unwelcomed with the babies.

Food was superb, cocktails as good as 5 star hotels on park lane. Service was friendly. Very happy to have this pocket of Indian magic near where we live. We don’t go often enough.
C. M.
Just finished a 17th wedding anniversary feast from Babur. Simply delicious as always. So fragrant and expertly cooked. Plus the cocktails are excellent. Thank you.

This restaurant was quite a discovery. Best hidden gem in London! I could go on and on about how good this place is but I would still fall short to explain how superb and delicious its food is. Chef is innovative, precise and with great knowledge of Asian cuisine as every dish I’ve tried has never disappointed me. Well done on you guys and well done for sticking to one restaurant which delivers what only that one chef knows how to deliver. I live 1 hour away from you and never minded driving at least once every two month to try one of your dishes.
Whoever has felt incentivised by this post I really hope you get to enjoy it as much as we do.
Good luck!
J. K.
What can I say apart from exceptional. The taster menu is superb whether vegetarian or z meat lover. You must go there but book as busy. Ps staff sre great too
A. T.
Sunday buffet was so good - every single dish was delicious.
£17.95
Naan, rice, 2 veggie curries, 2 meat curries, a fish curry, potato cakes, fish fritters, quails legs, salads and yogurt.
Only improvement would be garlic naan instead of plain
C. H.
Not your regular british Indian restaurant. This is something special. Fantastic food, cocktails and wines. Love it
E. O.
Indian food done beautifully. Initially I was skeptical about the food, but can I say that I was proven soo wrong. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. AMBIENCE WAS WELCOMING, STAFF ALSO FRIENDLY TOO. BROCKLEY RISE LOCAL...
C. L.
Amazing food and ambiance. Would really recommend coming here. We had a great time and can't wait to come back and try out more of the dishes!
A.
Local gem. Family have been going to Babur since they opened in ‘85.
Wonderful food and amazing service. Great cocktails (and mocktails!) too.
Chilli cheese naan might just be the best I’ve ever had!
J. N.
Interesting menu, a change from the norm. Service, value and cocktails all ok. Not amazing but will happily go back.
R. C.
Cosy, classy atmosphere. Fantastic Indian food with a lot of unique dishes and wine pairings provided. The mixed drinks are strong and delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
K. O.
A real gem of a place. Authentic dishes with an twist of originality. The 4 course taster menu is a delight with accompanying wine(s). Had to cave in and extend to 5 courses for dessert with liquor, what a good decision and a truly remarkable finish to a splendid meal/evening. Known about this place for 10 years wished i hadn't taken so long...to enter. Won't be long before we go back ☺️. On a par with famous chef names for me Gordon Ramsey etc. Super 🤗 effort team!!

Having been recommended by numerous people to try this place out - we went as a family and the food was great. We were shown to our table by a friendly member of staff. The table was right at the very back - by the door to the kitchen. It wasn’t too bad but next time all add a note to my reservation to avoid that spot. We had to ask for a wine menu and weren’t given much time to decide our main course - but having said that it was 9pm and perhaps it was a busy night.
There was a good atmosphere with lots of customers as almost every table was occupied. The meal arrived in good time and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. It might be worth knowing that the ‘hotness’ of each dish is indicated by 1 or 2 tigers on the menus. We found that even the dishes without an indication were reasonably hot. I’d perhaps ask the waiter for the mildest dish next time, rather than relying on the indications on the menus. But that is just personal preference!
Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
For 5*’s - the waiting staff would have to be a little calmer and friendlier.
h. m.
An exciting Indian flavour experience. We had the 5 course tasting menu with matched wines. Absolutely fabulous!
R. M.
Food and wine excellent, service friendly and efficient, and a great atmosphere.
We're infrequent visitors to the Babur, but have been going since the '90s. The food is wonderful - interesting and well presented starters, and main courses you won't find in any normal UK Indian restaurant - no 'base sauce plus chicken/lamb/tofu/prawns' options here.
The food is prepared with care and attention, and is delicious. There are pescatarian, diary free, vegetarian and vegan options, and the menu is available online.
The interior was revamped several years ago and is now bare brick, but has a warm intimate feel. We were lucky enough this time to be seated in the summer marquee, which reminded me pleasantly of a wedding reception.
We were in the last sitting, and were served promptly, after a slight wait for a table.
Starters are around £8, mains £16, wine from £24 upwards (check out the bin ends section of the wine list for good wine at good prices), and cocktails around £9.
Covid precautions were in place, with staff wearing gloves and masks, and a sanitiser at the entrance, but restaurant dining is an inherently risky business if you want to avoid catching it (or infecting others). Chairs and tables were being wiped after use, but I'm not sure if the surfaces were getting the sanitiser for the minimum time the solutions need for them to work.
A. K.
Excellent food and service.
Ordered the non veg and vegetarian taster menu. Both tasted fantastic. Couldn't fault their food. Worthy of a Michelin star.
J. S.
I have had Babur take away food for many years and this was my first restaurant visit. It did not disappoint. Very different menu and wonderful dishes. I will be back!
R. T.
Oh what a place! Delicious food, great mood and very very friendly staff! Do not hesitate to book a table! Perfect for dates or small groups.
J. T.
Service was second to none, very attentive without being at all over-the-top. We each ordered the vegetarian thali, all components of which were delicious, cocktails and wine - both lists were extensive and we were very happy with the choices we made. If you're looking for a slightly more upscale Indian dining experience, Babur is highly recommended.
P. P.
A lovely restaurant where the food is cooked with love. Friendly staff and adequate price, definitely five stars!
A. Z.
The service, menu choice and food were all good. I'd say the only criticism is the interior looks dated and does not suit an award winning. Nice to go to a fine dining restaurant that is it not in central London.
P. M.
Incredible food. Indian food taken to another level. It won't disappoint. Obviously the price is in relation to the high quality.
N. V.
Wow! What an amazing gem of a restaurant. Possibly the best Indian food I've had. Highly recommend a visit.
S. S.
They only have a fixed lunchtime menu but it is very sophisticated. They packed up the main course as a takeaway which was thoughtful
K. F.
Wonderful Indian restaurant. Great food with some delicious veggie options. Not your classic curry house, everything on the menu offers a tailored wine pairing.
N. B.
You really can't describe this as an Indian restaurant as the food is so very different. The food and service are both quite exceptional, if not unique. Not cheap but good value.
W. I.
Stunning food! Wonderful atmosphere to enjoy some delicious cocktails and fantastic food! I tried the cool green tea punch! Wow.. I loved that cocktail.
S. T.
Great food, beautifully presented, along with really tasty cocktails - try the Currytini!
S. S.
This is probably my favourite restaurant. The food is just ridiculously tasty plus they have great beer. Staff are lovely and a nice ambience especially with the new outside gazebo. We have been coming for years and will continue to do so. Cheers Babur
j.
The food was incredible, flavours were amazing. Get a Signature Cocktail, you won’t be disappointed. All the staff were wonderful and welcoming.
A. B.
Just a lovely experience from start to finish and very good value for the quality of the food. We had a wonderful time.
M. L.
Had the lunch menu and can honestly say the goat curry was the best curry I've ever tasted. And believe me when I say I've eaten a lot of curry 😁
S. S.
This is probably my favourite restaurant. The food is just ridiculously tasty plus they have great beer. Staff are lovely and a nice ambience especially with the new outside gazebo. We have been coming for years and will continue to do so. Cheers Babur

G. M.
Excellent food and ambience. Very friendly staff.
V.
They have very filling delicious food. I also had a bourbon which had a bit of an off after taste but overall this is a great place to go with lots of people.
S. T.
Great food, beautifully presented, along with really tasty cocktails - try the Currytini!
A. K.
Must visit for Indian food. But drinks surprised us - Indian flavored, diverse, vibrant and close to perfect.
D. S.
Amazing experience with kind staff! Food is very tasty.
N. S.
We’d read good things and this place did not disappoint. Amazing food, perfectly conceived, flavoured and cooked. The thali was incredible!
Z. D.
What a delicious meal!
Had the five course tasting menu with my partner (and also the scallops too which were lovely)
Would recommend. Shame I can only give 5 stars!
K. W.
The food and cocktails are delicious, the service is impeccable.
R. W.
Amazing tasting menu and excellent service, seriously one of the best meals ever
N. A.
Fantastic lunch experience today! The first lunch out since lock down started and it didn't disappoint. The set meal had excellent choices and the cocktail list had some inventive options.
E. W.
Ordered this on Saturday night. Genuinely the best Indian takeaway I have ever had. Even came delivered in their own branded box. The food was really fresh and not greasy like you find a lot of places to be. Flavours were amazing. I especially recommend the Chicken Chettinad. Will definitely go back to again.
J. D.
The most beautiful fine dining Indian experience you can possibly have in South London
M. M.
Came across this place whilst researching a place that had something different. This is one of the best Indians I have ever had - we got two orders in a week as it was so good. The Monkfish tail they do was one of the best things I have eaten anywhere. Even with the limits of the lockdown the staff are helpful and attentive. As soon as we are out of the lockdown I will be going there in person!
R. M.
If you want to be a bit fancy pants and love and Indian, this is the place! Myself and my friend are vegan and LOVED the menu, it is on the pricey side, but hey! It was delicious. As an avid traveller and having been in India many-a-time, I can hand on heart say how yummy all the flavours are and authentic it is. Dosa was particularly delightful and Thali!
D. W.
Really excellent food and service. Had the vegetarian thali and the wife had a grilled pomfret (fish). Would definitely come again!
A. S.
We had an amazing meal here, Indian food elevated but still authentic. Cocktails were really good too
E. J.
SE London institution. Fantastic food and fabulous service. Don't miss out on the curry martini!
S. B.
Great food , everything was delicious. We went on the first day after lockdown restrictions were eased, so I think they were still setting up after being closed for a month or so but the service was still very good. Cocktails are also unique and very good specially old Monk old fashioned
G. M.
Excellent food and ambience. Very friendly staff.
A. K.
Must visit for Indian food. But drinks surprised us - Indian flavored, diverse, vibrant and close to perfect.
L. S.
Incredible food and awesome service! Definitely go for the 5 set menu and get some cocktails. 🍸
P. R.
Amazing restaurant wonderful food, wine and service. Can't wait for the tasting menu to return in September!
E. B.
Just received our order and it was great! Delivered on time, good quality meat, great flavours, and not greasy. We have FINALLY found our “go to” Indian takeaway. You have a new regular customer. Thank you for delivering to se6 🙏 😊
J. S.
Tasty curry but why on earth do they use dry chicken breast!? Ruins what would have been an excellent meal.
P.
Such good Indian food...restaurant is great but honestly take away is so good too and obviously perfect right now. We get the Dahl makani side, x2 pishawari nan (don’t bother with the paratha), sag paneer, chicken tikka main and a Pathia Puree G and maybe a potion of samosa to start. It’s so perfect, I have always liked Indian take away and this is everything you want flavour wise from an Indian take out but with the quality dial turned up to 11. As you can tell I have just finished eating mine and I am still glowing from it...there is a bit left that I have put in the fridge that I could eat right now but I will leave for breakfast me thinks.
S. S.
Went for the first time. A little apprehensive as it's not your usual curry house menu however was very pleasantly surprised. Had the scallops as a starter where the pea sauce was hotter than expected but the 100 hour marinated lamb was truly delicious. Very friendly staff and done all they could to make sure our kids enjoyed their food as well which means a lot to us as parents. Many restaurants forget about their smaller customers but they are just as important.
S.
Really lovely evening. The service was amazing and food was ordered and to our table within 20 minutes! Would give 5 stars but the chairs were uncomfortable...sounds silly but made a difference to how long we stayed. Still I would definitely recommend and go back 😊
S. O.
Lovely food, nice cocktails, quick service, friendly staff. It's not often you find swordfish and monkfish on the menu.
M. J.
Had a great experience in here with my daughter. The food arrives quickly and the customer service is just awesome. Prices are fair.
S. S.
The food was very nice, a bit on the pricey side, but it is Michelin starred, so fair enough. They had a vegan menu, and I am a vegan, so I was happy about that. The staff were great. My only gripe is that the place is gloomy, and also a bit cramped. I asked for a candle for my table, to cosy things up a bit (and also so I could see what I was eating) but they didn't have one. The hard surfaces made it very noisy towards the end of the evening, as it got fuller. Not a place I'd go to again, mainly because of the gloominess.
N. S.
We’d read good things and this place did not disappoint. Amazing food, perfectly conceived, flavoured and cooked. The thali was incredible!
J. W.
Visited this restaurant just before new years after reading a review in the paper. The place was very busy but the staff were polite and attentive, I had the paneer to start with which was mind blowing! well balanced and tasted fresh as you like! for my main I had chicken chettinad which although not that hot (it can be depending where you go) was jam packed full of aromatics & spices, the chicken was succulent and tender seriously one of the best curries I have ever had (and I have had a few). They are doing take away at the moment during lock down but I hope to pay them a visit as soon as they re open. Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
D. 1.
Really great Indian restaurant. The thali was sublime and great value for many, and lots of choice for veggie, pesca and vegans.
J. J.
Without a doubt the best Indian cuisine I have ever had. The scallops melted in your mouth, the swordfish was delicious and the marinated lamb shoulder was divine.
M. G.
Came here for the first time on Friday 17th July 2020, having used the Babur takeaway many times I was expecting to see a similar menu but was surprised to see something completely different.
We had vegetarian thali as a main dish between two of us and it was very filling, the food was amazing.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and we will definitely be back to try something new.
J. G.
My first visit last week with a friend who has been dining here for years. The food was exquisite. Really nicely spiced and unusual combinations and dishes. There was a relaxed vibe and we had a really good evening. We didn’t do the tasting menu but I’m going back to try it after Christmas.
M. B.
Absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended. We also ordered the restaurant premium delivery and they forgot something, but realised, rang me and rectified within minutes. Top service
C. H. (.
Excellent food from an independent well established Indian can be hard to find, but not here.
There were so many amazing sounding dishes it was hard to actually choose one.
Each and every person in our group of 6 was extremely satisfied with their food.
A nice range of exotic cocktails to suit.
J. D.
Had a take away last night and ate there two weeks ago. Monkfish fantastic, quite expensive for a takeaway but very good. One gripe, the takeaway boxes are plastic and bulletproof to get into, great for the delivery but hard to get into for the customer and not great for the environment. Good food though and cocktails in the restaurant were amazing!
S. J.
The best Indian takeaway we have ever had. Had for the first time tonight - just superb. Lots more food than I expected (perhaps we over-ordered). Particularly recommend the amazing dal.
B. O.
Slightly surprised to get our starters & main dishes at the same time & on the same plate! Food not quite up to the standard of my last visit.
D. S.
Amazing experience with kind staff! Food is very tasty.
M. T.
Great food. Outstanding hospitality and service (but I was also the only one at lunch mid week). I can tell this place would be packed out for dinners. Fine dining level Indian but at Non-Central London prices. Only takes 40 minutes fron Liverpool St. I will be back
A. M.
Mocktail was excellent. Popadoms and chutney are better than most. Starters were excellent. My vegetarian main (Phool) was overcooked unfortunately and the sauce tasted of hospital clinical or too much vinegar, I'm not sure. We booked and put a code on to receive a birthday discount (Babur is celebrating!) The bill at the end didn't have the discount and we had to ask. When the bill came back, I still don't think we got the full discount I'd expected. My husband forgot to add service charge so we perhaps ended up "quits" but do mention the birthday offer when you arrive and ask exactly what it is. Atmosphere in the beautiful marquee was really good, fresh air too.
M. M.
We went for the 5 courses tasting menu. Everything we tried was excellent, great cocktails, amazing food and good service. Not extremely cheap but we will definitely go again. Strongly recommended
A. G.
What a wonderful restaurant, the service is attentive, friendly and helpful.
The food is fantastic, fresh, and full of flavour.
Just a warning, you need to starve all day before going to eat here as there is plenty of food.
m. h.
Really good curry. They've got a takeaway menu of the basic dishes that you already know, but there's also a menu of more complicated (and more expensive) very delicious meals if you want something more interesting. You can get the restaurant ones delivered too.
H. A.
Amazing food, and the cocktails are absolutely exceptional (Buffalo Smoke particularly).
A. A.
Best Indian restaurant I've ever been to, we have made a 200 mile round trip just to visit Babur on several occasions! Really beautifully made high end food, great cocktails, and friendly helpful staff who always make us feel welcome. Can't wait for our next visit.
T. D.
Awesome!! My partner and I had the veggie and non veggie 5 course tasting menu, each course paired with a glass of wine. Absolutely delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. If you want a vindalloo don't come here. If you want amazing modern Indian cuisine and like good wine then I can't recommend grid place enough.
A. S.
Lovely high end Indian right here in South East London. Cocktails are excellent (see below!) and the wine matching is all done very well. There's a great variety of different dishes on the a la carte menu and regular rotation of specials from different parts of India. Highly recommended.
t. b.
Good customer service food was lovely especially the lamb
D. P.
The food here is great, although the choices are limited for vegetarians. A little expensive, but the ambience and service makes up for that. An unusual drink selection for the daring. Would definitely recommend that people try it out. I found the cooking very much what one would expect from Indian food.
R. L.
I've been coming to this restaurant on and off since it opened back in the 80's. Yes, the decor has changed and yes the prices have changed too. But what has remained is the outstanding quality of food and the great service provided by the team. In order to be successful you have to evolve, and that they have done to great success. SE23 is lucky to have such a place.
S. B.
Attending Babur is always a joy to behold, gourmet Indian-dining at its finest and we feel so fortunate to have it placed locally here in Brockley. The fact that it was nearly full in capacity on a Tuesday night during the Covid-19 pandemic tells you all you need to know about it’s reputation. Socially distanced tables and all of the waiting staff wearing face masks make you feel at ease. This is before mentioning the epic food! Tamarind lamb ribs for starters, slow-cooked venison curry for mains and a deliciously hand-crafted pomegranate margarita for afters was just what the doctor ordered. Such attentive waiting staff who cater to your every need. A nice touch at the end when we were given a free tin of their Assalam tea after I mentioned that there was a birthday in our party. The best Indian dining experience bar none, get yourselves down there for 35% off starters and mains before 30th September to celebrate their 35th birthday!
C. P.
Wonderful evening, excellent food, outstanding service! Thank you.
J. C.
Absolutely amazing experience. The restaurant has a narrow entrance but once you step inside there's a lot more space and a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. The first thing you will notice is the service: it is beyond reproach. The difference between the service in this restaurant and others is simply staggering. You can clearly tell there's an emphasis on providing the highest standard service possible. We ordered quite a few dishes, starters, 2 mains, desert and drinks - everything was fantastic. They serve a very tasty dal makhani. Highly recommended!
C. C.
Amazing restaurant with amazing food. One of my new favourite restaurants in London. Really lovely, helpful staff as well. Bit pricey but worth every penny! Can't wait to go back!
P. H.
This was not an ideal visit - we were late for the theatre down the road and only had 40 minutes to spare. They were great and dealt with us very well. Such a pity though to have to race through the meal. A few comments. The cocktails are wonderful and the mocktails great. Really fresh. And small details are good too - the jug of tapwater was icy fresh. We have mains each plus popadoms and a nan and it came to £55 which isn't cheap. Highlights were the green beans which were buttery and fragrant and the peshwari nan, Would think twice about the king prawn dish - slightly bland and very expensive £19 I think.
D. L.
Wow!! Amazing food! By no means the cheapest Indian restaurant but they are clearly not catering for your run of the mill type of customers i.e A curry after 10 pints in the boozer! Very impressive service, decor, stripped back menu focusing on quality dishes rather than quantity and also good wine list. Best Indian food i have eaten in a restaurant. The restaurant was constantly full with customers eagerly waiting. Will visit again 100%. Wouldn't be out of place in Knightsbridge or Kensington. Go and experience it immediately.
J. J.
I took my wife here for Valentine's Day, and was very pleased with the standard of the food. I had ostrich for starter and buffalo for main...both of which were excellent. It is a bit pricey but well worth a visit at least once. Also, a little off the beaten track but that shouldn't be the deal clincher.
Great food is what Babur is all about. ;o)
E. K.
Amazing! As a vegetarian, my preference was just to have all the sides which we did and there was no judgment. Great food that’s worth it even if a bit more expensive than other places.
C. M.
Best curry ever. Hands down. I have no bad things to say about this place. If it were a person I'd marry it.
J.
Great food and attentive service. Staff always very helpful and friendly. Food is delicious and varied. Simply can't go wrong. Currently one of my favorite places to eat in the area. A must try if you enjoy Indian cuisine.
D. N.
Absolutely amazing. We nearly didn't come because of a few negative reviews below about the service. They are totally wrong. The service is outstanding. Very attentive, friendly and helpful. A real gem. Excellent food with beautiful unique flavours. Fantastic.
T. R.
Very good food and service. A huge step above the usual curry house fare. Non alcoholic cocktails were tasty. Bit of a delay waiting for our table as they were exceptionally busy but in the scheme of things that's probably a good sign!
J. D.
An astonishing surprise. They have a take away branch which is an as you would expect good but typical take away This is something else . A short interesting menu of wonderful Indian dishes feeling more like a very sophisticated restaurant doing dishes of Indian flavour Fantastic Craft beers and choice wines may give you a hint this is different though Cobra is the if you want it: great service an extraordinary lovely evening
C. H.
Easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food is stunning, the service is excellent and if you go when the tasting menu is available it is unbeatable as a dining experience.
R. A.
great tasting food, friendly and helpful staff, super lunch time experience, would definitely recommend.
G. M.
The best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Different.
D. A. d. O.
One of the best Indian restaurants in London. Ordered there many times on Deliveroo. I then decided to order on their website and mistakenly ended up buying from their cheaper restaurant option (Babur to go). I was very very disappointed 😢
A. M.
Great atmosphere and food. The person, who decorated this place has done an amazing job. There is a lot of interesting details in the decoration and the whole place has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. As for the food- I definitely recommend the chicken tandoori, but you should also be more open to new thing and get out of your comfort zone, as they prepare really nice dishes with duck and prawns.
J. S.
Always maintains the usual high standards, despite the lock downs. Last night was no exception: great food and polite service.
J. W.
Have been going regularly to Babur for some years now, and never had a bad meal. Consistently excellent food and amazing flavours. We're lucky to live fairly close by. Always a treat!
K. M.
Really enjoyed the meal here. The staff were attentive and the food was delicous. The portions were great and everything arrived in good time.
J. E.
One of the classiest Indian restaurants in London. A jewel in South-east London. Fabulous cooking, friendly service and staff, and now they do wonderful cocktails. It isn't cheap, but it is worth it!
K.
This is the best restaurant I have ever dined at. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. The tasting menu is a particular favourite and the staff match the wine perfectly with each course. The restaurant is decorated beautifully.
Thanks Babur for a fantastic dining experience.
P. M.
The Babur as always was excellent. We went for a birthday celebration and they did us proud. Wonderful selection of cocktails, delicious and imaginative food, attentive service and a lively atmosphere. Perfect.
M. W.
Consistently excellent, interesting and higher level Indian food. Also excellent takeaway/delivery service of the same menu. We are very lucky to live close to this gem.
P. C.
Having used the delivery service for so long I feel ashamed that I had not been to the sister restaurant until recently. The food was in another league with Asian flavours enhancing English staples like shoulder of lamb and chicken on the bone. Friendly service in modern surroundings without any pretensions. Highly recommended
B. K.
I have been many times and have never been disappointed. The food here is presented beautiful and tastes lovely! A bit on the pricey side but it's worth it! You can also buy a loyalty card that actually pays off quite quickly if you're a regular :)
P. J.
So so good. Great range of delicious food. We spent around £35 each (shared starter, two mains, shared dessert, and drinks). Considering the quality and size of portions, it was really reasonable.
R. Y.
This is easily one of the best curry restaurants in London. The food and presentation is absolutely exceptional, and if you're lucky enough to be there around the time when they're doing taster menus, i'd highly recommend trying it.
p. g.
We have be going to this restaurant for at least 15 years. It has changed a lot in that time in every way except for the quality of it's food. It regularly changes it's menu and I always look forward to seeing what new wonders the chefs have cooked for us this time. I highly recommend the Babur if you are looking to eat Indian food in South London.
Y. M.
The place gets better every year. Absolutely great food and service. Hope it doesn’t get too expensive or profit-oriented in the future. It adds greatly to the area and is a reason for our friends to visit us all the way from the other side of the river.
C. H.
My favorite Indian restaurant in London. Food is always nice there. The Sunday buffet does not really represent the normal standard of food but it is a good budget option to try there.
t.
Fantastic contemporary Indian cuisine with great cocktails and wine selection. Highly recommended the tasting menu. Be sure to book a table in advance.
T. L.
When you first move to the area everyone tells you to go to Babur... its taken us 2 years but we finally went to the restaurant... yeah I can see why everyone loves it... very good food, nice service, pleasant atmosphere... loved the drinks! Happy days! We also regularly order delivery online... always happy!
J. B.
Went here on a whim for dinner - taking advantage of an offer they were running for 50% off mains.
I was absolutely blown away. I love a good indian, and after reading the reviews I was expecting something decent, but I think the hype was deserved in this case. We managed to get a table for 2 without a reservation, just about! The atmosphere was really lovely too - not too loud, but buzzing.
Service wasn't exactly snappy, and we had around a 30 minute wait for our food, but it was worth the wait. Even the papadums were fantastic, and they're normally the one bit of an indian meal I'm utterly not fussed by.
I had the Spiced, Steamed Lamb Shoulder which claims to have been Marinated for 100 hours... It was definitely flavourful enough to have been, and I was a bit worried that it would have a strange texture but nope, it was soft and just gorgeous. My friend had the Vegetarian Thali which was basically an indian veggie tapas - she had a 5 or 6 little bowls of the various veggie dishes on the menu. Really delicious and a good way to explore the menu a bit. My chocolate fondant and friend's sorbet were brilliant as well. Can't wait to go back, just need a special occasion...
K. K.
Ultimate food with brilliant cocktails❤️
Love to pop in every time i visit near by😍
D. H.
Beautiful food, good and friendly service. Wine list works as well. The takeaway menu is extensive and the range is perfect
F. B.
It's a perfect place to try something different. It's a very elegant gourmet indian Pakistani restaurant. Staff is very friendly and attentive. They had very good knowledge about the drinks and the food and helped us to do the right choise for our likes. Food was delicious and very different than the tipical indian restaurants. The food and coctails presentation were creative and attractive. Mojito was one of the smartest cocktail I have ever tried. I really recomment and definitely going back to discover different flavours.
D. S.
Excellent food. Had the 5 course tasting menu with wine, and it was most delicious. Fantastic service too. Highly recommended!
J. L.
I thought the lamb cutlet starter was cooked very well. Very succulent with good flavours. I also liked the "currytini" cocktail. It did have the hint of chilli in it that made it taste good and wasn't just a gimmick. I went for a thali which was nice but really wish I was more hungry so I could have tried the tasting menu.
G. M.
Amazing food. Great service and good distancing on their new tent. The baby aubergine dish is unbelievable.
J. S.
High end 'indian' cuisine, excellent range of game and fish dishes, sensitive and well chosen wine list and some stonking cocktails. Try the currytini.
A. B.
Everything we wanted it to be, delicious, great buzz, amazing attentive staff. Yes its more than your average Indian restaurant but there is nothing average about it. It just means we may not eat here every month, but look forward to more special occaions here.
A.
Really good. A high-class restaurant rather than a curry house, as reflected by the prices. I've been here five or six times with friends and family, and the food is always spectacular. Dine with confidence.
R. P.
Pricey but worth it. Great flavourful food. If you're able to find a tasting menu option (I had one at Christmas) with matching wines, that's definitely the way to do it.
P. W.
Lovely meal, with lovely drinks!! The cocktails are great!! The staff are all lovely too!! Can't wait to go back!!
D. M.
My experience was the best ever. The staff were great and the food was AMAZING.
Will be going back again.
Keep up the high level of customer service and quality food.
By the way try the Buffalo and lamb ribs
I. H.
Some minor disappointment on our arrival, either a misunderstanding or just language barrier but felt a bit pushed by the greeter that we would require a booking in the future...what at 18:00 on Sunday, no customer inside and the place remained at less than 50% for the remaining 1.5hrs see picture.
Otherwise, this is quite an exceptional place when it comes to food, and I am glad it is local to me. The food is adventurous with meats like rabbit and venison, presented pleasantly...
One word of warning to those expecting "Apna Style", dishes at Babur are NOT hot!!!
This place is pushing away from the local Indian eateries that we know, and really testing your palate with savours rather than battering your tongue with overwhelming spices and chillies.
Overall, the customer service is OK, but in the league in which it is trying to play in, not up to scratch. If you can get over the poor uniforms, and a barman battering the hell out of mint every 3 minutes...you will enjoy something special
J. L.
Service fantastic. Food amazing. Had a mishap with the starter but staff sorted. Best indian I've had in years.
G. R. T.
Excellent food, truly cuisine from all parts of South Asia, keep up the good work 👍🏽
A. G.
We had a wonderful meal and delightful cocktails. Three courses and drinks for two came to £100. I would highly recommend the dining experience at Babur.
P. J.
Wonderful place. The food is amazing, the cocktails are great, and the staff were lovely.
C. L.
I visited as part of a decent sized group a month ago for the buffet lunch. Excellent food at a reasonable price. The premises are wonderful and the staff attentive. We shall be back soon!! Thank you.
L. H.
Had cocktails and the tasting menu. Cocktails were really unique and tasty and the tasting menu was amazing! Highly recommended for an innovative and delicious take on Indian cuisine.
S. A.
Indian food modified for Western tastes. Pleasant atmosphere, food mild but flavoursome exotic items to experiment with. Prices reasonable. Parking is matter of luck.
K. J.
11/10 service. Amazing food. Friendly and attentive staff. One of my favourite restaurants!
J. S.
Excellent Indian food with a contemporary style. Polite and very attentive service and good CV-19 precautions. Popular restaurant so bookings essential.
P. B.
Been going here 20 years. Best Indian in London still!
The flavours of the curry are so rich and unique. Very authentic too.
W. J.
This restaurant is exceptional, I love the food (mmmmmmmmmm)! i love the customer service, i love the atmosphere that is created... and every time my wife and I visit, there is something new going on, some kind of event that really draws you in to the Baburs experience, I highly recommend it!
J. L.
Not cheap but really good food, great decor and very attentive service. We had the sampler menue which was lovely. We got a selected glass of wine which each course (4) which was fun too.
L.
Great authentic Indian restaurant. Their dosa is wonderful and worth visiting for that alone! Slightly pricier than other local independent restaurants but the quality is high.
M. S.
Very attentive service and interesting food. Not cheap, but thoroughly pleasant. I think I'll get a takeaway next time. The garlic chutney will blow your mind, so say yes to the poppadoms!
K. M.
Amazing tasting menu with paired wines. Should have a Michelin star. Excellent service too
s. d.
Great service, very overpriced average curry house, did not find any authenticity in food, bland texture less
R. W.
Babur to go is excellent take away but this is so much better. The Indian Street Food section of the menu is incredible, the lamb wrap is the best thing I have tasted in months!
A. M.
Good Indian . Treated well by staff. Great veggie and Fish, meat options. Not your standard Indian restaurant. Knocking off a star because I find some of the dishes over salty
B. H.
Babur is a staple in the south London community. I’ll hear no different.
R. G.
great service, and the vegetarian tasting menu is excellent. Well worth doing with the matched wines, just make sure you allow enough time for the full experience.
P. D.
Amazing food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The tasting menu was fantastic, especially the goat curry.
L. A.
We enjoyed our very tasty takeaway. One of the better Indian takeaways in the area.
A. H.
Excellent, inventive and delicious Indian food at reasonable prices. The cocktails are great and the service is too.
R. S. (.
Great food! Slightly too expensive, and service was slow. But great food and décor made the night!
Z. P.
I've never sat in, only ordered takeaway... but what I've eaten from here has been delicious. The naan bread is delicious (especially the coconut version), and all the paneer dishes are extremely tasty. The lentil dal is particularly lovely too. All in all, a definite takeaway treat.
t. s.
Great Indian food and tasting menu. portions are generous and quality of food and presentation is very appealing. great customer service as well. WORTH IT!!
R. E.
Exquisite Dining , I can not fault a thing , flavours and presentation on point throughout from starters to dessert . Compliments to the chefs for such an enjoyable taste experience !
W. S.
It’s not earth shattering but it’s quite good. I’m not so into Indian food but I really liked the taste of the ostrich I had here. It was perfect seasoned and not so spicy … I recommend this meal.
E. M.
We had a takeaway last night and it was simply divine. Everything about it was perfect! Will definitely be coming back.
E. S.
The chicken biryani and the steamed lamb shoulder were tender and perfectly seasoned. Friendly staff, great wines, clean bathroom. Keeper.
S. T.
Great food and amazing atmosphere, especially the marquee
C. M.
I was messing on Google maps and was happy to see that this restaurant is open and doing fantastic...as a young un in my early 20's I moved to Bovill Rd and would go there occasionally..the food was excellent back then...so big ups to you all for 30 plus years of excellence..next time I'm in London🛫🛫 I will be sure to stop in....😊😊👌🏿👌🏿
L. A.
An amazing all round experience. The food, drink, service and ambiance are all faultless. A place for a special occasion. Just make sure you’re hungry as you will want to keep eating.
R. T.
Rating takeaways only (I had to rate decor, about which i know nothing) but.. Takeaway: Extremely good value, v high quality, delicately spiced and head and shoulders above most. Highly recommended.
L.
Attended by sisters 50th birthday celebrations on Saturday and can say that this is a fabulous restaurant, the best Indian I think I've ever had.
K. B.
I'm not even a massive fan of Indian food, I tend to moan when I get dragged somewhere by the chaps, but for Babur I'll make an exception.
If this place was in the city, people would be absolutely raving about it.
Classy place, spectacular food, lovely staff.
Not your average local Taj Mahal by any stretch of the imagination...
D.
The best Indian food I’ve had in London. It’s next level compared to most Indian restaurants and that’s reflected in the prices, but it’s worth it.
K. H.
Delicious food in a very nice setting. The de-congestion offer if you book a table for early or late is such a great deal. Reasonably expensive but worth it.
G. B.
Absolutely fantastic, best Indian restaurant I know
C. C.
This is a really high end Indian restaurant and the place to take people that don't like regular Indian food.
The lamb biryani comes in an authentic clay pot and for me is the best thing on the menu.
C. P.
I was here last night for our wedding anniversary as we wanted somewhere special. And as usual the food did not disappoint excellent as always!
A. H.
Cannot recommend Babur highly enough... everything we ate was absolutely delicious and the service was brilliant (I’m 7 months pregnant and they brought me a cushion to make me more comfortable without me even asking!) can’t wait for the next visit
