Reviews of BAO Noodle Shop
N. B.
You should believe this place is super lovely. We did go when it was a little busy but staff were attentive and kind and lovely. They explained the menu which was helpful. Food and flavours always top notch and the drinks 👌🏼💥 boom. We got the raspberry flavour yukult drink and some buns. Really superb concept for overall chain but this one takes my gold stars for the interior style. Will have to revisit often. It’s a little on the pricey side with bun and drink about £5 each but tbh it’s central London and you pay for the whole experience not just the awesome flavours.

It’s the first time I come since its opening and I have to say that BAO never fails my expectations. We only got noodles and some fried chicken, which were all very good. The atmosphere/design is always too perfect.

Been here four times, first two times was a disappointment with long wait times and having to wait for quite a while just to take my order and get the bill. Table beside had the same experience as well. However pleased that has completely changed from my third visit, when service was prompt and efficient, with staff sharing the recommended order portion (appetiser, main and a snack), would say my best visit and experience yet! Also tried the peanut milk, it was pretty pricey for a glass of milk but was so worth it. Would recommend!
L. T.
Very attentive service and friendly staff. The overall flavours were excellent and fresh. Standout was the fried chicken starter which had a lovely "kick" to it. The Dan Dan noodles were also great but could have had a touch more tofu. The beef in the main dish was awesome - thick slabs and good portions.
M. C.
Excellent and authentic Taiwanese braised beef noodles. Quality and taste of Bao buns are well-known by now so it is great to see that the same standard is applied to their noodle making.
The surprise was actually the beer served in the restaurant. A refreshing pale ale scented with tea fragrance - a delightful treat!
K. N.
We had the Dan Dan tofu noodles which were simply Devine. My friend had the beef which was great too. We tried some of their cocktails but they were not as exciting or tasty. The staff were amazing. I would definitely come back for the food!
S. S.
Attentive staff. Clean lines . Not the most comfortable of seats but this is a place where you aren't expected to linger. Food good , though could be more meat in the Mains. Experience as it's worth it.....though not sure if I want to rush back. Pity.

Bao opened a noodle shop 5 min away from where I live! Should be very exciting, but after trying it, it's an all-around average food place. Bao never had too much value in their baos, £5 for a tiny little bun. However, the Taiwanese beef noodles were reasonably priced and they have 2 different choices for the noodles. The noodles were nothing special, the broth felt quite weak and the noodles were not able to pick up the flavor of the broth, not the best Taiwanese beef noodles I have tried. The atmosphere was decent, sitting next to the kitchen counter did make it more interesting seeing the chefs preparing your food. Although the staffs were friendly, they did get our order wrong and we waited quite a long time for our noodles to be prepared. Also seems like that some of the prices are mislabelled on the menu, as an non-alcoholic drink was £9 on the menu but we only paid £5 for it.
C. C.
The vibe of the place is good. Service is decent and the food came fast.
But given its price, I would not take it as my top choice in that area. Have visited other Bao branches several times. However I havn’t got why they are popular. Fried chicken is ok, but the spicy sauce did not improve the flavor. Bao is pricey and did not leave me strong impression. For the same price there are better alternatives nearby. And their icon in this store, beef soup noodle, is very mediocre. The beef is soft and chewy, but plain. The broth is thick, but too oily to drink. The noodle shall be cooked longer to absorb more broth into it. From the open kitchen, u can see the procedure was to add these three pre-cooked elements together into one bowl, not really being made on spot. It is true that its quality would be stable after this standardization and could accommodate more customers. But I do expect better taste given its high fame.

A decent place for a quick(ish) meal. Overall a bit overpriced given the quality and flavour of the food. We had the spinach which really needed some soy sauce, fried chicken (probably the best item), and some rather bland buns. We each had the beef noodles (which are covered in coriander fyi) which were okay. The tea was overwhelmingly sweet, but that's sort of expected with flavoured ice tea. Lastly, the service is a bit chaotic, but friendly enough.
k. s.
Nice Bao, nice noodle, provide feature drinks which different from other bubble tea shop. The best Taiwanese food I have had in the UK. It also provides independent space for the party.

As a Taiwanese living in London for almost 2 years, can’t believe I’d never been to Bao until today. Heard great thing about it so I was quite excited.
Loved the classic bao as peanut powder and coriander worked so well with the bun and pork.
Lu Rou Fan was good but needed more gravy!
Good broth in the GuBaMee(beef noodles) but definitely could be stronger in flavor.
Wasn’t impressed with the fried chicken, thought it was tad dried. And what was with the spicy sauce?!?!?!
Cull Yaw dumplings were GREAT!
Restaurant was very busy, but staffs were attentive. Didn’t wait long. Great service!

The BAO brand never disappoints… NEVER!
Where do I start … I‘m not hard to convince when it comes to noodles. When I heard the news about the opening of BAO in Shoreditch, I got super excited. Had to go the second day of the opening and been on a weekly since. So let‘s keep this simple:
🌟Slow Cooked Beef Cheek & Short Rib Noodle Soup (10/10): Broth is super clear, rich in flavour, meat melts on your tongue like butter 🌟
🍜 Fried Ogleshield Cheese Rolls (7/10): Yummy but didn‘t blow my mind, tiny portion because only two small pieces so not the best value for money. 🌟
🌟 Crispy Tripe, Spring Onion Dip (9/10): Apparently 18 spices, the spices taste amazing, I was trying to get the recipe out of the waitress without luck 😂 I order this without a fail at every visit 🍜
🍝 Dan Dan Tofu Noodles (9/10): An absolute delight, well-seasoned, not too oily like most other places, the tofu is amazing and mixes super well with the whole sauce. The only downside is the size of the portion as I love my noodles and found it a bit small 🍝
🍗 Fried Chicken Bao (10/10): A BAO Classic, super good 🍗
🍙 Iberico Pork (7/10): Was good but didn‘t blow my mind 🍙
🍸🍓 Frozen Strawberry Daquiri (9/10): Cute cocktail, nice look, sweet 🍓🍸
👩🏻🍳 Super friendly staff, great service 👨🏻🍳
🧾 We paid around £90 for two but experienced explosions of different well-thought-through flavor compositions and meals.
Thanks BAO, see you next week.

Absolute perfection, is how I would describe this restaurant! From the service standard to the food quality, there really isn’t anything to fault.
Truly a job well done!
M. T.
Rich and flavoursome noodles, and decent baos. Sides were very lacking though, especially comparing portion size to price, without enough flavour complexity or skill to justify.
H.
Food and drinks are all very tasty. Especially the Taiwanese friend chicken and the beef noodle. However, the noodle wasn’t cooked properly, some of them stuck together. Drinks are a bit small in my opinion (£5 each). Try to book a table in advance since it’s usually quite busy. Overall very tasty and authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Will definitely go back again!
N.
Great new Bao with a focus on the famous Taiwanese beef noodles. The current menu has 2 options for beef noodles: Taipei and Tainan. There are also two vegetarian noodles available. Love the yummy cocktail and beverage options. there is also a selection of the popular baos. Can't wait to see more stuff added to the menu!
L. Z.
Noodle is good. Tainan style noodle has pork skin which is pretty fat; so unless you’re a fan of fat meat, go for Taipei style noodle.
M. T.
I got the crispy tripe, a classic bao and a Taipei slow cooked beef cheek noodles and had just enough food. The starters and the bao are small, the noodles are a perfect portion. The only thing that I didn't like as much was the tripe - it just wasn't crunchy/crispy enough.
The classic bao was lovely, I should have gotten two of those! The Taipei style broth was rich and delicious, get the egg as an extra and dip the slow cooked beef cheek into it before eating. Delicious! I'd give them
J. L.
The interior was fantastic! Clutter-less, modern, cozy and even friendly.
You could have a quick meal and leave or stay longer over some beer and cocktail in a very light and clean atmosphere.
I tried the noodle with rare beef noodle.
I think the beef slices were too thick to serve rare.
Soft and melting-in-the-mout- texture was what I hoped for a rare-cooked beef but it was thick, greasy and rather tough.
However the broth was great.
I love hot soup and it comforted me so well.
Did the broth and noodle go well with each other? I'm not sure.
It is totally subjective but the noodle and broth felt a bit separated rather than working together...
The crispy triple, I think it is a very good idea.
It tasted nice. However I wish the crispiness would stayed throughout.
It soon became soft and soggy by the moisture from the hot triple.
However I definitely want to come back with my mate to try some cocktails and beer.
N. M.
Great food in a fantastically relaxed atmosphere, it’s always busy so it’s best to book ahead. The service was excellent and the food didn’t take long to be served. Looking forward to my next visit already.
N. V. M.
Stopped here for some late night sustenance and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the kelp and aubergine ramen which I highly recommend and chicken Bao.
Both tasty and really filling.
The waitress kindly explained menu with patience. Staff were friendly and the service was quick. Will be returning
W. W.
Bao is definitely my favourite Taiwanese restaurant in London! The new noodle bar in Shoreditch serves two different broths (Taipei and Tainan style). We tried both and they were absolutely delicious - spicy and flavorful.
M. L. T.
The food is tasty and the staff are lovely and friendly but it’s quite overpriced for what you get. Portions are small and I wish they offered more greens as the food is quite rich. Nice textured noodles and the bao buns are good. But like I say, expensive for what you get and portion size small.
E. L.
Defy recommend this restaurant to anyone who want to experience authentic Taiwanese cuisine! Please try the classic bao and daiko bao and the vegan Dan Dan noodles, even better than the ones in Taiwan!! A bit pricey but great quality
N. B.
Delicious and excellent atmosphere and service. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Great food though a little bit pricey for the portion size.
V. G.
I actually far preferred the bao dishes over the noodle order but that could just be personal preference. They instructed us to order one item from each section of the menu each, but I would’ve been happier with a starter and then 3-4 baos. Their noodles were nothing special but service was friendly.
Y. S. G.
Fantastic Asian food
Why "yes"
1. The veg bun is excellent
2. The aubergine noodles soup is great
3. Great service
Why "not"
1. Can't think of a reason
Bottom line- highly recommended
C. C.
Flavor is great and authentic, I was so happy to have proper Taiwanese food since I haven’t been home (Taiwan) for two years.
BUT, THE PORTIONS ARE SO TINY!!!!! I don’t even have big appetite, my friend and I both ordered 1 beef noodles and 2 baos, didn’t fill us up at all. We had to have some other food later on. Completely lose the spirit of Taiwanese street food…very disappointed.
J. C.
Delicious Taiwanese noodle soup and overall very good service. The Taiwanese fried chicken and bao were also quite tastey. Only downside was that for the portions, it was quite pricey.
j. m.
Consistently good, well actually more than good. Always really enjoy the food and general dining experience. Service is always friendly and efficient. Not sure how they maintain such impressive flow of staff, usually speaks highly of the way company treats them.
It’s a casual restaurant but every detail is well thought out. One of the coolest branding jobs from a restaurant (they have merch you would actually want to wear & check out the wallpaper in the karaoke room).
Have tried almost every dish on menu but faves include: pickles (perfection), pork floss rice starter, dumplings, chicken bao. The spicy soup is punchy but not too spicy and quite rich. The other beef soup is much cleaner if you want a healthier hut just as tasty lighter alternative. Noodles great texture just right amount of chewy (do they make these in house?).
Weirdly the thing that I always look forward to the most is the iced lemon tea with froth on top…I haven’t ever tasted anything anywhere else like it. Perfect balance of sugar and has a sour plum top note. Authentic lemon tea but with added experimental creamy froth on top which works so well together. It’s almost like dessert.
So lucky to have this chain. As an Asian food lover who has guilt around eating lower welfare meat (a standard in cheap- mid value restaurants) I know they only buy in the good stuff here. That reason alone is enough to justify repeat visits.
K. B.
BAO Shoreditch is clean, feels warm and cozy on the inside and has a pleasing aesthetic right from the from door.
I ordered the daikon bao, some spicy tofu noodles and a Yakult raspberry drink and they ALL tasted exactly as advertised - delicious. The staff were super nice and made my lunch experience joyous and stress-free!
R. R.
Really clean food. Very well presented. Quite expensive but worth the experience. The selection of cold brew teas were really nice!
S. W.
Delicious, the food get's 5* but the prices are a tad high. The noodles are reasonably priced, the dumplings are very expensive and the bar buns too - although extremely delicious, I'll go back but not regularly due to cost.
D. G.
Points for style and vibe!
Food was good, but not outstanding. Their Raspberry Yakult Tea was weirdly flavourless and watery, might have been a mistake?
Prices are appropriate and the location unbeatable, staff was super charming, I will be back!
M. D.
Highly recommend this place as it offers the noodles which you wont be able to find anywhere else or at least not in London. Please try their cocktails as well!
M. D.
Good food and nice setting but portion sizes far too small for the prices paid
A. H.
Excellent soft fluffy Bao Buns and delicious slurplable bowls of noodles with rich beef broth. Try the tripe, it's absolutely fantastic!
Their homemade peanut milk is also delicious.
M. P.
NOT A TAIWANESE PLACE. Very Average quality, overpriced, not exactly worth it, if you can go somewhere else to get more traditional Taiwanese food please make your research. I enjoyed Taiwan Beer and I will go visit the KTV soon to see how it’s like (£8 per person, min 6 people, min 2 hours). But surely not going to order fake Taiwanese food anymore. :(
D. T.
A very good restaurant! All of the baos taste very good and their noodles are amazing as well.
D. B.
Great stuff, first time here and I didn't know the menu at all, staff very helpful and fast service!
F. F.
As every other Bao restaurant in London, absolutely amazing food. You never forget the taste of bao. The environment is super cool, service is incredible and the drinks are fun and delicious. Price is also reasonable. I definitely recommend Bao to everyone. Will be coming again and again. Make sure you reserve a table though, as it is quite competitive.
A. J.
The best noodle soup I've had in ages and the Taiwanese fried chicken is worth the visit alone.
A.
My cocktail was perfect - I tried something new ordering a sweet potatoes drink and I have no regrets !
My friends strawberry daq was overly sweet though :( which was a shame because they aren't cheap.
The baos are absolutely to die for here! Will be coming back soon
D. A.
Good service and tasty food hits the spot - even the tripe which I’ve had a massive phobia of ever since a meal in Italy a few years ago…. Anyway….
Not quite 5 stars as I echo the others regarding portion size. For example my beef soup had 2 small pieces of beef in it and the piece of iberico pork was really small for a £7.50 bao.
V. S.
Absolutely delicious Bao and small plates. Noodle soups are also very good, but lacked the spice and punch I really enjoy. Great experience overall.
A. W.
The Bao are excellent as always but the noodles are something else. Delicious home made noodles, different cuts of beef and a tasty rich sauce. Don’t miss out.
C. S.
We had chicken baos here which were a little too tiny and there chicken had something unchewable in it and my friend didn't eat her bit.
Didn't try anything else.
R. H.
Is there anything BAO can’t do?? Taiwanese beef noodle soup was amazing and so flavourful, and the bao buns were on par with the other locations. Forever impressed by this chain and it’s hands down one of my favorite restaurants in London.
D. T.
BAO have continued to maintain their impeccable standards with this new venture into Taiwanese beef noodle soups. Both the rich and light broths were delicious, but the light was a particular highlight. The noodles were perfect and there was a generous portion of shortrib - but would have liked more of the rare rump with the light broth.
Go now before it inevitably gets a glowing writeup in the Guardian and you have to queue for 45 minutes.
A. H.
Very very tasty food! And good service. Although being there latish meant we had quite a limited choice (things sold out after we ordered them), but we were accommodated nevertheless.
P. P.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. We were served by Haille who was extremely attentive, answered all of our questions and made great recommendations. The crispy tripe was superb and the portion was very generous.
L. T.
Weirdly enough the baos weren't amazing. The noodles were great though and the dessert too die for. Horlicks ice cream bao. Thank me later.
h. m.
Delicious! A little bit overpriced but very good!
W. H.
The portion is very very small. Consider the environment and taste, it is not worth it. The cocktail is small too, and not worthy
R. N.
It lacks the magic of the Soho or London Bridge sites. I dont know why they want to make noodles, when their bao is so good. The bao's are mostly made with fried fillings (chicken, prawn, iberico pork (why deep fry iberico pork??)) The classic one with pulled pork was dry. It feels like they are cutting some corners, and I did not appreciate that.
L. N.
Great service, nice atmosphere and delicious noodle soup. Can't wait to go back!
C. W.
Amazing Broth, delicious Bao (the Daikon is especially good) and a surprisingly great 'fried ice cream' dessert.
C. S.
Absolutely delicious!!! You must try the fried horlicks ice cream. The classic bao bun nearly made my friend Jasmina cry! BANGING
R. H.

Nice new addition to the Bao franchise. Good noodles but misses a bit the cool of the other locations.

Loved it. Spicy vegan Dan Dan were excellent and the peanut milk was yummy!
B. A.
Their Baos are great as you would expect, but their noodles leave something to be desired. Maybe try one of their other branches
S. G.
Pretty good, the boas and noodles are amazing.. Don't forget to order their cocktails too
L. S.
Food was good and in nice presentation. Portion wise not great. Beer served in a shot glass which was quite bizarre.
F. C.
The best ru rou fan滷肉飯 I have in London. Always love their all kinds of bao.
D. D.
Soup was delicious, reasonably priced, and ready very quickly. Will definitely be coming back!

Delicious noodles. Friendly and helpful staff.

Taste good, just the portion is too small for that price.

So tasty !!!!!

If you're a fan of other BAO restaurants in London, or are just looking for good noodles, you'll love this place! They serve the typical bao buns you can expect to see in BAO restaurants, a few unique side dishes, and four types of noodles dishes (two beef, two vegan). Best to book to avoid disappointment though, as it gets quite busy.
J. A.
The quality of the food is amazing, very nice staff and a special mention to Davide who was very professional. Recommended
